speaks in monotone all the time, lectures with powerpoints using pictures that don't contribute to your understanding of the material at all. basically you learn more by reading the textbook.
He does not know how to lecture. Do not even bother to go to the lectures because everything is online. He just reads off the powerpoint. The book is your best friend, and the TA's don't help either. I think you'll be better off with Sawrey (who is a bit harder) than this guy. The tests are easy tho.
This professor is so boring. Lots of the people in the class leave right after the clicker question(extra credit point).
Though the lectures may be a bit boring, they definitely help toward your understanding of the subject. The tests are very reasonable and the TA I have is great (I have Shannon). Most of all, I've talked to the professor before and he's really nice.
He's pretty much a good professor. What you get from the course is what you make of it ( if you come to class with a negative attidude towards it you're not going to enjoy or learn much). Notice the correlation between easiness of the course with the perceived clarity/interest/helpfulness of the four previous posters.
Reads off powerpoint. very few examples. went to lectures just for clicker points, other than that no need to go, just read the book and powerpoints he posts online. tests are all multiple choice, pretty easy if you do the assigned problems and the self tests. i liked that he didnt have a midterm, just tests. ta sergio was bad.
you have to do the practice problems. if you've never taken chem before, not the best teacher for you. A lot of people are really rude and leave in the middle of class and talk. it's hard to hear, i recommend sitting in the front and getting an oasis workshop.
The guys a really nice guy, I really like him, just his lectures aren't very helpful. And the tests are easy, but if you make one stupid mistake you are done for, only 11 questions, multiple choice. 4 tests, drops lowest, and the final is only worth 2 tests. the textbook will help. a lot.
"Dr.C" is a really nice guy. His lectures are kinda boring, but what do you expect, it's chemistry. He genuinely wants you to do well, and all the tests are fair if you've kept up with the reading. You don't need to go to class (you can just check his slides online later) but it helps if you have questions. It all depends on your TA.
Sure, Dr. C's lectures are boring and pointless to go to, but clicker questions provide extra credit (if you need it). There are 4 total tests + a final, but the lowest test is dropped. The tests are easy if you've done the homework (which is never actually turned in, so stay on top of it). Lecture PowerPoints are all online. I thought he was good.
It's pointless going to his lectures. You need to read ahead to know wth he's talking about. He reads from the powerpoint directly, so might as well read it at home. Do your homework! even if they don't count torwards your grade. If you don't do your homework, you won't understand anything on the test. His test are short&easy if you know your stuff
OK class overall. Very friendly guy, understanding when you talk to him one on one. Teaches off powerpoints that aren't that helpful. Needs to do more examples. Grade not really representative of work; each question on tests worth 9 points. Extra credit a little pointless. Homework not mandatory but expect to teach yourself most of the material.
stopped going to lectures halfway through the quarter (showed up only for ec clicker questions)...teach yourself out of the book. he wasn't helpful at all the one time i went to his office hours, and the TA sucked (sergio) i don't go to discussion either. tests are easy and i study 5-6hrs before a test and get 100s. just read the book, do the probs
The most boring voice in the world. People storm out after extra credit questions. Lecture is not worth going to. Reading textbook and doing homework problems are your only choice.
worst chem teacher ever!!! reads off a power point which post online!! just go there and do the clicker questions. and read the book on your own and do his homework!!. His tests are pretty hard if you dont read, since he ask alot of theory!!! but if u read the book and understand the hw, u should be fine!!!
omg DO NOT take his class. he reads off of his powerpoint, does not explain how to do the homework, and expects you to learn everything. his tests have 11 questions and 100 points so if you miss more than 2, you are screwed. he does not curve tests even though the average is like 50%. does not know how to teach, boring class.
he has powerpoints online...and after the ec clicker question everyone leaves and only half the class is left since he doesnt do anything else except read off the power point.. and his test are hard since there are only ten questions =/.....so a couple of wrong mistakes can result in an F =( seriously i never thought i would be failing chemistry..
when it comes to lectures his voices starts gets droney & you'll zone out, but i went just to see if i could learn anything-didn't really. teach yourself chemistry 6a from the textbook.you don't read anything before lectures, its useless to go to lecture. most learning i got was from OASIS CHEM 6A WORKSHOPS! TESTS-fair 12 multiple chioce questions
He doesn't teach very well. Tests are EASY. 12 multiple choice questions with extra credit clicker questions. Almost all of the questions are math problems so no lengthy conceptual ****. This class is very suitable for the independent learners. He posts his lectures on the internet and your scores so it's helpful.
Dr. C's tests are very rerpresentative of the homework he recommends but lectures have no real bearing on what you need to know. His class really is a diy. Read your book, do the work and go to section and you will definately pass.
The class itself wasn't too bad, he reads out of the book for lecture, & his slideshows, which projects were straight up bold terms from the book & diagrams/tables from the book. His tests are strictly multiple choice which sucks for the people who actually enjoy to do the actual chemistry, where free response would have been their time to shine.
Lectures are a waste of time and pretty boring. Just do the homework, and learn from the book and you can do well in the class. There are 4 tests and 1 final. My average in the class was probably around a B to a B+ but he curved up to an A.
Lectures: straight off book, posted online, monotone, unclear voice. Grade: 3 out of 4 tests(100) and final(200), total of 500 pts. Extra credit: clicker questions. Sections: not mandatory, go as needed. Do-it-yourself class.
People, stop complaining. If you study, you get A. He clearly stated in the beginning that his job was to illuminate what is covered in the books. Also, he is super nice when you visit him during office hours. Stop being bitter just because you slacked off and got an F when he curved the grade like crazy.
your book will be your best friend.
This class is a very easy class. The lectures are boring because he just reads off the powerpoint; however, you don't need to go to the lectures because he has all the powerpoints online. If you are able to do most of the homework problems, then you will do very well on the exams. :) easy A !
a useless teacher, who hires more than useless TAs, he does not care whether or not you learn chemistry, he only teaches because he is required to by the university
Not such a great lecturer - makes PowerPoint presentations with pictures from the textbook and talks about them (boring), so you'll do a lot of learning on your own. The tests are fairly easy if you study a lot from the book, which I didn't do. Pretty much caused me to lose all interest in chemistry.
This was one of my favorite classes last year. The tests are very representative of the homework that he assigns, and extra credit is available through RAD questions. (hint) go to class if you want extra credit. His lectures basically clarify the book and are a big help if you're a visual learner.
Dr. C was a good professor! I'll admit, his lectures weren't fascinating. But, he is a nice professor who teaches well. Uses the powerpoint extensively, but it helped with the material a lot. I appreciated the chance for extra credit with the clickers. I would certainly take another class from him!
I'll admit that his lectures were boring...but at least he is very knowledgable and could explain things well. I liked the fact that everything was online, so you don't even need to go to classes if you can learn by yourself. For me, an incentive for going to class was to answer extra credit questions w/ the clicker. Also, he curved the grades so l
Lectures are kinda boring. Read textbook and learn by yourself. Quizzes are based on the practice test so study them!
He's a really nice teacher. His exams are very doable, however, there aren't that many questions, so it's hard to get an A on them. But, he curves a lot and gives out extra credit points, so make sure you go to class!! His lectures are boring, but he's really nice ^^
His class was pretty easy. He dropped one midterm and gave extra credit for clicker questions. His lectures may have seemed a bid boring but his tests were relatively easy. True the tests are only 12 questions but one is always a giveaway (which test form u have). I took oasis too which helped. USE his powerpoints to study. I didnt even take notes.
He seems to cover materials that aren't needed for the Midterms and Finals... However, he points us to important things to know anyways. He gives good curves... so even you failed one Midterm, it won't bother you at all... unless you fail two or more. And he's pretty new on teaching at UCSD, so he seems to change the teaching style here and there.
Lectures are pointless. You don't have to attend any of his lectures and STILL get an A. Just prepare by reading the book (which is basically your professor). Exams are fair but he does put in random questions that throw you off guard.
All he does is lecture off a powerpoint. He doesn't require homework. His test are horrible. They're all multiple choice questions worth 9% each, so you either get the right answer or a zero. This class is very easy to fail. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! COMPLETELY USELESS PROFESSOR!
his lectrues are pointless and his tests extremely hard. you get one wrong and you lose 9%. Try to avoid taking his class, but if you are stuck with him because you had no choice, read the chapter and do all the hw probs and get help on those you don't know how to do.
Professor C doesn't know how to teach. He kept mentioning that his job was to clarify the concepts that were supposed to be ambiguous in the book. No, he makes it so much more confusing that I started to hate Chemistry
I never really went to lecture cause I was taking Chem more as an interest than for a major, but his tests were pretty easy and representative of the book. He gives extra credit and also allows the option to drop one test. Granted, the other two big Chem profs are probably preferred in the sense that they "teach" better, but Dr C was pretty good.
Dr. C does not make fair tests. He lectures on one thing, but tests another. And yes, what he tests was in the text and in the lecture, but a one sentence fact should not be worth 5% of your grade. He's a nice guy, but does not teach the material well or make fair tests.
Take only if you are willing to put in time to study. Tests are very fair(unlike most). Beware of his tests: 15 questions 10 points each. 3 mideterms only best 2 count. Dont blow off a midterm, it will come back to screw you. Way to get an A: study HARD for the first two mideterms b/c the last one was difficult, study lectures.
worst professor i've ever had at ucsd, TAs are equally useless. tests are easy if you know how to study, class is curved NO MATTER WHAT HE SAYS (i think it was ~82% for an A), never showed up to class and ended up with a 96% in the class. he is a **** in office hours too. i was a chem major until i took his class.
Dr. C is the most boring proffessor I've ever had. He talks in a monotone voice the entire lecture and doesn't seem concerned that people don't know what the hell he is talking about half the time. The problem might be that he's too smart for the good of the class. The material on the test is not what he told you to study the week before.
avoid this professor if you are not the type of student that concentrate and read the text book. the slide show he put up doesn't really help for the test. to pass the class you need to read. can't stand his monotone- falls asleep in like 5 minutes. his midterms are about 13 questions and each question you get wrong is like 9% off. avoid him.
I HATE HIM. He is the worst professor ever =P
The midterms are very similar to the assigned homework problems. His lectures have almost nothing to do with the midterms. The class was not extremely difficult, but you have to study a lot on your own. He's a nice guy and willing to help, but I still wouldn't recommend him.
He is a bad lecturer.. thats for sure. You just gotta study on your own for the tests.. Attending the lectures wont do it because he just shows a bunch of slides and talks in a monotone for an hour. Tests are 11 mutiple choice questions for 100 points. Tests are hard and most people fail. Not an easy class if chem is not ur thing.
Soooo easy and helpful if you go to office hours. Although I dont think class is a must. Going to him for help definitely helps a lot. very nice in office hours and i got an A+ in his class.
I stopped going to his lectures after awhile - didn't do me any good.
Yea after a while i just stopped going to class and studied on my own. his lectures are useless because all of his slide sets are online. tests are hard to do well on because they are only 11 questions and getting just one wrong costs you a lot. the self-tests in the text helped more than the homeworks.
The class is scary, but with hard work and commitment it is fairly easy to achieve the grade one desires. I finished the course with 396/400 and feel as though I had much left to improve on. The one thing I regret is not attending his office hours. Do the homework and if you encounter any difficult questions go to York 4020 during sun-thur 4-10 pm.
I realized at the end, studying the ppt he puts up on webct helped a lot more than reading the book when in crunch time. (Reading the book is also very crucial for the tests.) The multiple choice tests are very difficult, and are only 12 questions for 100 pts. (class is out of 500 pts!!) During class, he sometimes goes off on his wild tangents.
his lectures are boring, but he is nice and his tests are generally fair.
He's pretty lenient with scheduling difficulties and let me turn in homework during office hours since I was unable to attend discussion. Lecture tended to be a little boring/repetitive, but his tests accurately reflect course material gone over during lecture and are never time-pressured. I'd pick this professor again.
Do not take this class if you can avoid it. His lectures are boring and do not pertain to the tests at all. The homework problems he assigns are also not on the test. Each test question is worth a huge percentage of one's overall grade, so even getting a few questions wrong on each test will bring grades down. However, the curve is very helpful.
He's NOT a good teacher at all. Boring lecturer and only read off powerpoints. He seems nice enough though, and not too vulgar like kummel
his lectures are very boring and sometimes hard to follow, but he tells you what you need to know for the exams. exams are only 12 questions and missing one hurts your grade, but the curve helps. test questions aren't too hard and are representative of the hw he assigns. easy class if you do the work
fall06. he had power points all the way. lectures were BEYOND BORING. the only time u see ppl were during the quizzes. other than that, there were only 20ppl in class. quizzes were 6 multiple choice questions. they were kinda tricky but do-able. final was MC also, just longer.didnt learn anything in his class!didnt like his style of teaching at all
His tests are really easy, but each one question was worth 10pts, so if your having a bad day in test, you go down really fast. You don't have to listen to his lecture. Just do the homework if he assigns any. Homework problems are much harder than his test. Do his practice exams too. Some questions are exactly the same as the test.
Not an energetic lecturer since he uses powerpoint a lot and just reads from it. Go to class because he does problems on the board sometimes. Tests are like the homework problems so go to class and section. Not a bad teacher but not the best either. You can still get an A.
His teaching methods are extremely flawed. He tries to a teach BASIC chemistry course using a mathematical perspective, and often strays into quantum mechanics just because he feels like it. Most of my classmates simply get lost in his ramblings, and I myself just manage to understand it only because I took AP Chemistry last year and got a 3.
his lectures are boring... u need to rely on the textbook and your discussion sessions. practice tests that are posted online are helpful but the actual tests tend to be more hard.
He is, hands down, the worst chem professor at UCSD. His lectures are useless, and really boring. You must rely completely on the book. He puts up practice tests that have little to do with the actual test and are way easier, so basically they're useless. Don't take him, unless you don't mind teaching yourself everything.
HAHA! this class was a joke!! it was sooo freakin easy but he was COMPLETELY useless! i've never stayed awake at ANY of his lectures...even when he came back in my 6C class as a guest lecturer..I FELL ASLEEP! he's SOOO freakin boring and monotone..but it's SUPER EASY! this chem class was just a plain joke
His tests are pretty easy, but he can't teach at all. If you are good at reading the book, then take him. His tests are super easy. But they are worth a lot of points
He is a nice guy, but the test format makes it hard to score well. The lectures are interactive and he offers a lot of extra credit, If your willing to study and read then take him
He is an extremely nice guy and is great to talk to, especially during his office hours. He is also very helpful and willing to answer questions during office hours. His lectures are a little boring and his tests are worth lots of points because there are only 14 questions and the tests are out of 100 points. He curves at the end.
I think the only reason why people give this guys a bad rating is because they are actually just too lazy to read the book... Its kind of what he tells us to do for hw and the people that fail and complain about him are just the wannabe pre-meds which will get weeded out one day cuz they will realize they don't have the brains to do chemistry.
Extremely nice guy who genuinely wants his students to do well, he cares about his students and is available for questions after class and in office hours and through WebCT. He does have some clarity issues in his lectures because he just talks about things without presenting any kind of example to clarify. Read the book and to homework on time.
he's a nice guy and tries to help when he can, but his tests are really hard. each mc question is worth a lot so if you miss a couple, your grade goes down easily. tests are nothing like the hw. take him if you have had chem before or know what youre really doing.
he's horrible at teaching although he knows the material...i think...can't even tell because he's so incomprehensible. he's a nice guy though, but that's really not important when we're talking about your grade
Definitely the worst prof. in the 6 series from what I took. He teaches from a powerpoint which makes you not want to go to lecture, but his tests were unnecessarily difficult
THIS GUY NEEDS TO SPEAK UP. His voice is soft and mumbly like Milton from Office Space. He relys on Powerpoint for teaching which gets boring. Fast. Then there's times when the class just overwhelms him. However the 4 easy midterms really helps the grades. And there's going to be INSANE curve at the end. READ YOUR BOOK, but don't do his homework.
He likes to pull tricks on tests that are not necessary toward learning general basic chemistry. When he says one thing before a test, he may completely turn it around on the test and basically screw everyone over. His practice tests don't help - they usually take 10 minutes and are too easy for the sake of preparedness for the actual test.
This class is hard. I guess I shouldve read the material..but I dont get his lectures. He's a really nice guy though.
Do not take this professor unless you have photographic memory, or you're just amazing at chem. His test do not reflect his lectures or the homework fully. On every test he asks questions that are more conceptually and are found in one specific sentence of the reading. And considering there's only 15 questions and the test is worth 100 points..BS.
Tough professor. Hated his lectures because they were so boring. He also moves through the material super fast. His exams are tricky, where you have to know the material inside and out to get a good grade. You just have to read the book. Fair grader though.
Very nice teacher, but extremely boring teaching style. He relied heavily on pwrpts. Do the readings. Quizzes are held in discussions and are xtra credit. tests are mc, 15 questions 7 pts. each. Not too difficult if you did all the reading and hw (there's a lot of it)
Lecture consists of him reading his powerpoint. I learned most concepts through the book or asking my TA at section. Fair grading scale with bonus points and a curve. Forces you to come to lecture if you want clicker bonus points. Overall, not an effective teacher.
Worst teacher I had during fall 08 quarter. His lecture consisted of playing a chem version of who wants to be a millionaire (and the class is the audience). You click right, you click wrong, it doesn't matter. If you do end up with him, go to class and bring something to keep you occupied. you'll need it...
Not as bad as people say. The clicker questions keep you awake and add a bit of joy knowing that it is an extra point. If he spent more time on the lecture itself then it would probably be an overall better class.
Least favorite teacher! Was not interesting or helpful in office hours. I would recommend to take someone else if possible.
YEAH MAN YOU ROCK
Nice teacher. Texts are relatively easy compared to other 6a teachers. I would recommend him mainly because tests are easy. I'd take him again. I ended up doing well in 6b and 6c after taking his class. Not as bad as everyone says.
bad.... really bad...
I don't like chemistry... But this professor made me dislike it even more... Textbook is your only hope for this class. His lectures are boring... The clicker was kind of annoying for me...
This is the greatest professor I ever had at UCSD. Trust me and take him, you wont regret it!! He truly knows his stuff unlike any other chem professor I ever had here, and he definitely knows how to teach. (I can see why he teaches a seminar on How to Teach Chemistry) I looked forward to lecture everyday in this class, his voice is so beautiful.
People that cannot get an A in this class will never get into Medical School. Switch majors if you are complaining about this guy. Chem6B/C are MUCH more complicated. He is very fair. Just do your homework.
I think that Dr. C 's tests are fair. People didn't do well because they either didn't do their homework or they didn't pay attention to the lecture. He's not as hard as people said. His notes are posted online which is helpful. However, his lectures can be boring.
terrible. midterms are wayyyyy tooo hard. you have to read and understand everything to do one question
He is a good professor..not as bad as people make him seem. It's people's fault for not studying correctly. Just do all the homework and you'll be ok.
I felt like I taught myself from the textbook. Lectures are mostly useless but he tries to help with review sessions and practice midterms.
............=[
He's very nice, and he obviously knows chemistry and wants to help his students. But he doesn't teach very well. Unless you've taken AP Chem and did well on the AP exam, definitely avoid this prof. Tests don't represent the material he emphasizes in class. I practically taught myself from the book. I worked really hard and barely passed.
Scantron MC exams were confusing and difficult. The topics emphasized in lecture didn't help later on exams. '...extra credit' factored into everyone's grade BEFORE the curve is really mandatory credit, isn't it? 50+ hw probs/week... those fresh out of AP Chem, i.e., recently learned the material with a different instructor DID do well.
Being a freshman 1st quarter, Prof C felt like a challenge. However, looking back he was one of the easier professors I've had. Attendance isn't mandatory but offers EC if you go. Tests are very straightforward. Study the textbook and you'll be fine. Practice tests are a joke though, much easier than the real thing
People who complain about the difficulty of this class need to find a non-science based major. Professor is average to good, tests are fair, homework is optional, attendance to section mandatory, and he gives extra credit. If you put in the time and effort, you'll end up ok. Not as bad as people cry about, but not a cake-walk either.
His tests and quizzes are extremely fair, and the prof is very modest (he'll give you extra points for his mistake). He is very nice, and personally hosts review sessions for tests. However, he does make a lot of mistakes and lectures aren't very helpful. Read the textbook carefully and you'll be fine.
He's not at all a bad teacher and the quizzes are easy. However, the midterm only consists of 15 problems, so getting 3 wrong and that's already a C. I use to attend every class, but I failed the first midterm. Then I stopped attending and studied myself and got 30%+ higher on the second midterm. Just study hard from the textbook and you'll be fine
fairly mediocre teacher... if not worse.
CHEM 6A - Lectures are boring and it's hard to make yourself go to them. Prof C himself is very nice, in a dorky kind of way, and he always makes bad jokes in lecture that are so bad they're funny. If you do the homework, and do the ALEKS extra credit, you'll be golden. His midterms and final are SUPER easy.
Honestly, Dr. C is a great and straight forward professor. As long as you attend lectures and pay attention, you'll do fine in the class. Tests are relatively easy, as long as you study practice problems. ALEKS really helps as a study tool as well.
He's not as bad or as hard as people say. Tests are a little tricky and there's little room for error--15 questions and 100 pt tests. You can replace your lowest test with your quiz score. Hard to stay awake during lecture because he teaches by ppt, but you learn a lot if you do. The clicker isn't required--he prints voting cards for you.
His lectures were really helpful. I found that if I came to lecture, I didn't have to read the book, and could do the homework no problem. When he makes mistakes in class, he is very humble and gracious. I did not take AP chem, and thought the class was straight-forward if you pay attention. Not to mention he is extremely cute in a dorky way.
My favorite professor at UCSD! It's fair to note that this isn't a chemistry class, it's an education studies class. If you're considering teaching science as a career, definitely take this class.
Dr. C was a bad teacher. You actually had to understand all the concepts and remember every small little detail if you wanted a C or better on the midterm. His review sessions for the midterms were not helpful whatsoever. He made a lot of mistakes in class. His lectures were helpful for the homework, but not for the midterms. Avoid him if you can.
Dr. C was a great professor. His lectures were helpful and reading the textbook was also important. His midterms were somewhat difficult, but you could replace the lowest one with your quiz total. The final was pretty long, but just study all the concepts and do practice problems, it will help. ALEKS honestly, sucked, but it was really helpful.
.... Attendance not mandatory! Nice guy, but lectures are super boring! Uses Aleks for EC, which can bring up a letter grade if you are doing well on midterms and quizzes..
Worst chem teacher ever!!! His lectures are not helpful at all and he constantly messes up. His exams are ridiculously hard and do not reflect the assigned homework at all. If you scored a 4 or 5 on your AP chem exam or are just a chem wizard youll be fine, but if you havent taken chem since high school 10th grade, BEWARE.
Dr. C's lectures were useful in understanding homework problems, but not for preparing for exams. Exams were really difficult and conceptual. I did better in the class when I stopped attending lecture and taught myself from the book. Not entirely helpful, never curved, and made mistakes somewhat often in lecture.
Dr. C is one of the sweetest prof's ive had! Hes funny and he really knows his stuff and is always up to help. homework was not impossible if you do you due diligence (homework and read your stuff) and tests were fair. I got an A with a fair amount of work, not too much and enough to learn what I need. Only for the willing to learn.
His test are fair (reflect what the homework asks, if not easier), but there are very few questions so it's easy to fall into the B/C range. His lectures are a bit boring and if you can read the textbook you don't need to go. He promises a curve to make the class average a C+ but for my quarter our class average was a B... Final is hard!
Just grab the book and find a corner at geisel so you can teach yourself. I found lecture useless. He constantly makes mistakes. He posts up lecture slides and puts a red star next to important concepts. Print out the slides and study off those. You'll pass like that.
a VERY fair guy. His tests and final were based on the homework and practice tests. His lectures are helpful, and he tells you what you in his lecture slides what you need memorized. he's also very knowledgeable about the subject and easy to approach.
Stay far away from this man. He uses pure powerpoints and forgets that he actually has to lecture during lectures. He's a very nice guy, but if you want to get an A in chemistry then stay far away from this man. Avoid him at all costs!
If you really want to do well in chem and understand it, don't take it. I dropped it and I'll have to take it again next quarter. If you can avoid taking him, do it. Make sure you get an easy TA because they make easier quizzes than others.
He's a nice guy, and pretty helpful during office hours, but the second he turned on his mic during lecture, no matter how hard I tried, I could NOT stay awake. No matter how I felt before the class, I slept through every lecture I attended. Expect to do a lot of self-teaching for this course. He has a mandatory ALEKS course, which is a pain.
I don't know what other people are talking about, but Dr.C ACTUALLY teaches chemistry. He does not only talk about what is on the powerpoints, but he also gives you examples and teaches you how to do chemistry problems. He is the best chem teacher ever, you people that give him bad ratings probably got an F and that is why you say he is not good.
He's... alright.
Prof. C is a genuine person, you can tell he loves chemistry. But I've been so close to breaking down because I just wasn't getting it...something I'm not used to. It's not impossible to get an A, but if you're like me who haven't took chemistry since soph.year of highschool, you're going to struggle. I've never been so frustrated with science...
Prof C is a really nice and helpful person who will probably help you out a lot during office hours (which regrettably I didn't go...). His voice is nice but it makes me sleepy sometimes. Lectures are all slides, quizzes DEPENDS on your TA (mine were hard), exams are all MC's. Read the book and do the homework CONSISTENTLY and you'll get an A.
Professor Czworkowski is very nice and kind but he is very boring. Take him if you have a good understanding of chemistry already and if you like learning from the textbook. His lectures AREN'T HELPFUL but his midterms and finals are extremely easy (no curve)if you know your chemistry.
Read the book + do the homework = get an A. Lectures are unnecessary.
Very helpful for people that have not taken chemistry before. Homework is not mandatory, but quizzes were word for word from the homework, and test questions were very similar. He was great in that he tells you exactly what you need to know for the test.
Actually some of the questions on the midterms were from the lecture. Read the book and do your homework, that is were most of the questions for the midterms and final come from. but still pay attention in class, he puts up 2 or three questions that are based on the lectures. Some of the questions are tricky. Very helpful and good lecturer.
Admittedly not the best lecturer. Just make sure to do all the homework thoroughly and you'll do well on quizzes and exams. He didn't use iClickers, and homework was not graded, but is highly useful if you want to get a good grade.
what I hate about him is the fact that his midterms are multiple choice and only have 15 questions, which is really bad in assessing the students.if you get a question wrong, that's -8%
Puts you to sleep. Does not know how to teach. I had to study the book to learn anything. Tests aren't too bad if you study but are very few questions so missing just a couple will significantly affect your grade.
Puts you to sleep. He tries to go slow so we get the material, but for me just reading the book is better. Tests are really easy. I've had worse.
As long as you read the book and do the homework you will be fine. Lectures are a little bit boring, and are pretty much the same as reading the book. It's not too hard to get a good grade in this class, as long as you put in the hard work.
His class is actually really easy. There are 3 midterms for the MWF classes and 6 quizzes of which 1 is dropped (also for the midterms).
Dr. C was a good professor. He was very patient and willing to reexplain anything that was unclear. The quizzes, midterms, and final are all fair and representative of the material taught and very similar to the optional homework assigned. No iclicker or Aris needed.
If you do all the homework problems, this class will be an easy A. Lectures are pretty much straight from the textbook, plus no clicker questions. The midterms and final were fair, and practice exams are pretty close to the real thing. Dr. C's a really nice guy overall, gives extra credit and just seems to always be in a good mood.
The reason I got an A in the class is because I basically lived off the book the whole quarter. The tests are bunch of random questions that was not even emphasized in class. Thank God, I took AP chem in high school. It helped a lot. Dr. C himself is a really nice guy, but honestly his teaching does not help .
His teaching is meh. You can pretty much skip the lecture if you understand the homework/material. But the real kicker is the TA. TA's grade and make your quizzes so if you get a hard one you're screwed. If you have a good background for chem, might as well take him. If you don't like chem or a little rusty, it's doable but annoying.
I got an A+ for the course because I pre-read, practiced, went to weekly quizzes and post-read. Period. Not hard to ace it but his lectures didn't help much. He's more clear and helpful during office hours. Nice guy. Love multiple choice haha. You want an easy A? Take him.
He's a nice guy, but a horrible lecturer. It's extremely hard to understand what he's explaining and you're better off reading the book yourself and getting help from friends. Practice tests are nothing like the actual exam which are harder. I only recommend him if you took some form of chemistry class in high school in the past 1 or 2 years.
Reading is required and he assigns practice problems that don't need to be turned in. The problems he assigns help the most when studying for the exams. Exams tend to be conceptual but there are, in general, no surprises. He gives a curve at the end of the course overall, and he doesn't require an iClicker or Aris.
Dont let the negative comments scare you. Professor C's class is the easiest out of the all chem 6A classes. He has two midterms which are a lot easier than the other chem6A classes and they are all multiple choice. No clickers required. DO the optional txtbook problems since the weekly quizzes and midterms/final are based off those.
Lectures are all but useless. Very nice guy but his explanations of concepts just aren't that great. Tests are relatively easy and always multiple choice.

Class is relatively easy, however it is heavily reliant on you to read the book to learn. Lectures are good for just introducing you to the basic concepts of things, but it's up to you to do all of the readings and learn it more in depth. Could probably pass the class without ever going to lecture.
Dr. C is a horrible teacher and on top of that doesn't have a curve. His tests are relatively easy, but there are under 20 questions so if you miss one it's like 6%. Sapling is easy and quick. His class has no extra credit or any curve. NOT RECOMMENDED.
Dr. C doesn't curve his midterms or exams but he really doesn't need to. So long as you don't fall behind on the assigned (but optional) readings and homeworks you should be fine in this class.
Doesn't curve, MC choice tests that make you second guess, useless lectures. I pre-read the text, took notes, and did tutoring to understand what was going on. As a Prof, he's useless. Do not recommend.
He's such a nice guy but he isn't the best teacher. His tests aren't curved but they are pretty easy and fair. I hadn't taken ap chem in high school but I still managed to do pretty well in his class thanks to the book. His lectures were pretty useless plus he posts all his slides anyway. Overall the class wasn't bad. His teaching skills however….
Czworkowski had a great attitude and seemed glad to teach, however, the way he taught was not very useful for the way we were graded (i.e. quizzes developed by TA's). There was plenty of opportunity for help with office hours, discussion, and the chem lab. Final and midterms were fair game.
Came to lecture everyday, when it got tough (ch 4, ch 9) I fell behind in the lectures, but if you stick to the book, do all the homework and make sure you understand each one (sapling gives you explanations - use em!) the midterms and the final are pieces of cake. Exactly what I wanted out of a class - I learned the material and gained an interest
People are making a big fuss over nothing. He's a really good guy and the material is so easy that theres no need for him to really teach. Midterms multiple choice, quizzes, and no clicker. Honestly, his lecture slides were all i ever really used to study. I messed up on one midterm which is the only reason i didn't get an A. Would recommend.
Professor Czworkowski is one of the best professors I've ever taken for chemistry. I did only take one class this semester, but he gives thorough lectures. He is very open to asking questions and even calling out the right answer. 88% is an A! Tests go by homework, review problems, and what he emphasizes in class. Would take again for Chem 142 :)
Hes honestly a decent person and is nice, but he doesnt teach what hes preaching. The tests and what we retain in his lectures are always completing different, if youre going to take him get ready to learn chemistry basically on your own. And he grades so religious on the exams to the dot.
