i took his abnormal behavior class 2 years ago and it was great! its hard to really take notes in class because the way he lectures its better just to sit back and listen. and YES the workbooks is where most of the test questions come from

he's a cool teacher, his lectures are kind of boring his tests aren't so bad don't but the study guide such a waste of money...he takes attendance seriously...but other than that he's great

The class is very demanding, but he is a good teacher. All the multiple choice questions come from the workbook that comes with the textbook. I didn't read the textbook, just looked at the terms at the back of the chapter. Extra credit opportunity for 100pt. (5pg paper). If you study the terms and workbook you can get an A.

Very stressful! Unbelievable hard! You'll have a hard time! Not the way I would like to learn with such a stress!

Amazing man. Very warm and caring. Very patient, even with disrespectful students (talking, tardy, texting). Course is rich with personal experience. He breaks down complex ideas into common language, but still super important to know the terminology of the profession. Course requires much devotion, and is well worth every minute.

Nice guy who is easy to listen to and wants to help you. Cares a lot about keeping the class engaged. Mult. choice/matching tests based on workbook, but they are very long and you have to know your stuff cold or you won't have time to finish. If you struggle with English, this could be very hard! He offered a big extra credit project.

Dr. D'Anca Personal Growth class is one of the best classes I have ever taken. It is an easy A because you talk about yourself. You get to listen to other people tell the story of their lives and learn just how much we all have in common. The mid-term and final are take homes. Really easy class and Dr. D'Anca is always there for his students!

I have learned so much about my self through this class. The course is easy but you will be in a group setting. If you dont like sharing this may not be for you. IF you want to get to know the real you, take this class. I love Dr.D one of the best professors I ever had. Plus you will have the opportunity to get selected for an independent study!!!

I took psy 107 as a independent studies course with Dr. D. I had an awesome experience because I was looking at the class from a different perspective. Oh yes he was tough on me because he wanted my to get it. In the end, I can say that this was one of the most important learning experiences throughout my studies at Oakton. Thank You Dr. D

Professor D'Anca is a great teacher! He basically gives you all the information you need to know for your test. Very straightforward with everything! This semester I had many personal problems that made me miss a few tests and assignments and he was extremely helpful and understandable! If you have the chance take him!

Although he does lecture, it seems as though it is a discussion type class because the students can stop him at any time to share their input or ask a question. He is very knowledgeable and makes the class (which is usually a very stressful class for students) very fun and enjoyable.

This is my last semester at Oakton. Dr. D. is the best of the best. Psy 107 is an awesome course. Dr D. is passionate about his job, and is always there for his students. Awesome professor. Although abnormal psy could be difficult because of the material, Dr. makes it easy. He not only take into perspective his view on it but the students and making it easier on the students. As too much can become overwhelming and/or confusing. Clarifies all material in detail.

Amazing teacher. Really cares about his students and he will take time to get to know everybody. His assignments are easy but you must do them and you must come to class or you won't pass. Easily one of my favorites.

He is a great lecturer and I thoroughly enjoyed his class. He really wants his students to be successful and if you go to him for help he is happy to do so, but you need to ASK! Be sure to show up to class and participate, it's a problem if he doesn't know your name by the end because if you are between grades participation could bump your grade up

One of my favorite professors at Oakton. D'Anca is very personable and willing to help any student who's seeking it. The class is lecture style with few tests throughout the semester. I learned a lot from D'Anca and would take this class again just to learn from all his personal and work experience. If you're going to take this course, take him!

OCC is lucky to have a professor of this caliber. Dr. D'Anca has the rare quality of not just having a superb understanding of the material he is presenting but also able to teach the subject matter. So many profs have a pround knowledge base but can not cross the bridge to be effective educators. If you want to learn, he will teach you.

He sets this course to be very discussion based: uses stories and situations from his own experiences relevant to course material (what the book can't teach you) . I took PSY 107, 108, and 203 with him. Only homework is papers for 1078 and there are a few tests in 203. Really helpful teacher and you learn a lot. He is willing to help you with anything. 1078 is like "group therapy" where you learn about your life and others. 203 has a lot of interesting facts about mental health. Take his classes!

Dr. D'Anca was a great professor! I had him for a summer course in PSY 108 which was more of a group therapy time. He encouraged everyone to speak and participate which was helpful in breaking the ice of the class. I truly enjoyed him and his willingness to help!

John D'anca is a wonderful teacher. He is kind and cares about his students, and tries his hardest to make sure none of them slip through the cracks. Besides, you know somebody's a good teacher when you go into a classroom and see a group of students are there simply because they liked that teacher last semester.

He cares about his students and offers every opportunity to help; he gives real life examples of the topics; he shows educational film clips in class; and he will meet with you outside of class to help you learn the material. Among Oakton's high quality professors. If his class is open and you're interested in a psych course he's a no brainer. Intriguing lectures, he helps convey the human element to those suffering from psychological disorders. A couple quizzes, 2 heavily weighted tests but all are more than manageable if you study. Offers EC paper. Great guy & prof.

Dr. D's approachable, wants his students to succeed, and is super passionate about teaching pathology-the man has a Master's in counseling, a PsyD in clinical psychology, and is a current practitioner! He encourages questions and shares interesting stories to link class material together. You'll start to see people with pathologies in a diff light.

He is funny and organized. His tests are straight forward. He tells you what is on the tests. He is available for help. The lectures are interesting, full of anecdotes and videos of actual patients. This is a very informative, high level course, and he makes it worthwhile.

Takes attendance at the beginning of each class. Participation is a big part of the grade. A class that really helps you grow as a human being.

This class was very straight forward, tough material but if you put in the study time, you will end up with a good grade. The professor is VERY knowledgeable and is willing to further explain things all the time. I would recommend to anyone that can study, not a homework heavy class at all.

Dr.D is the most caring professors I've ever had. Through his class, I have learned so much about myself and made so many great friendships. I would really recommend this class to everyone. You have no homework nor tests, just two 10 page papers. The papers are extremely easy since they are about yourself and things that you learned in the class.

This class was super interesting and you got to know all your classmates extremely well which was actually pretty cool. I thought it would be weird and awkward but it wasn't! There are NO tests. Easy grader, just show up to class and participate.

He is such a caring teacher that is willing to go the extra mile if you need help understanding material or if you have things going on that keep you from class. As long as you read the book you can just listen in class. Powerpoint help too. The tests are not hard and are based from book.

I took PSY 120 with Dr. D'Anca this summer, such an inspiration and amazing professor! He takes time to explain every chapter and based it on his experience that you'll learn alot. His Test/Quiz are mostly based on the book, just make sure to read. Yes i recommend him! especially if your planning doing any healthcare programs.

Great person/Professor and he is a psychologist so that helps his reputation. He actually engages students to learn. Yes I learned a lot but he made sure we had teachable moments which we all appreciated.

We sometimes dont get through all the material so we have to read it at home. Some people didnt like this but hey, this is how the 4 year university is gonna be like.

One of the rare teachers that enjoys coming into work everyday. His lectures were more about what came naturally instead of having set points of interest. There was never a time that he seems unhappy to be there and always jumped in his seats when presented with a question. Very few teachers Ive met have had a passion for what they teach like him

There is no homework, but you do have to read the modules. There are 2 quizzes and 2 exams that are MC (thats really it). thats are on the modules you read. His lectures REALLY clarify what you read and you can use his notes as a study tool. Make sure you show up & participate because he has 100 participation points. Easy class, youll be fine.

The course was full of just lectures, but he encourages discussion that really helped enrich the classroom environment and gave me a deeper understanding and appreciation of the material. Prefessor Danca is my favorite professor and teacher Ive ever had. He really knows what he is talking about and he wants you to learn. His assignments are very easy and his tests and quizzes are fair, you just have to read the text book and listen during class. I found it most helpful to answer the questions in the textbook, very similar to test.

Psy 107. Professor D'anca encourages reflection and all schools of thought during his class discussions. He asks many thought provoking and introspective questions to get discussion going so everyone can participate. He gives extremely helpful and encouraging feedback to every single student. Would highly recommend and take this professor again.
