awesome teacher. very smart and nice. it's a hard class but you learn a lot.
he told stories well about history and was a little obsessive about germany, but his multiple choice sucks!
Take good notes, and look over the study guide MC questions. Very good teacher, knows a lot. Nice guy
Enthusiastic, helpful, and interesting. Take notes and ask questions.
Smart guy, knows his stuff. Focuses extensively on Germany. Caveats: HIGHLY disorganized. Tends to get way off schedule very early on. Piles on lots of work. Don't know your grades until it's too late. But his classes are interesting, and you learn lots.
Not an easy prof, but very interesting. Shares his love of Germany often. Really nice guy, but gets extremely behind so class gets a little crazy but overall very good
his classes arent easy, but you will gain a alot of knowledge. Great teacher. Made me feel really good when he told me that a paper that i wrote was the best one that i have written yet. Nice guy but he means busines. GREAT TEACHER!
one of the best teachers i've ever had and he is my advisor...his class isn't easy but definitely interesting
Classes are always better with enthusiatic teachers. Dr. Delaney definitely loves to teach and it makes the class much more enjoyable.
This guy is bad! Avoid like the plague! The class is not good and he is rude!
If you are good with history don't take him.His class requires you to have a decent amount of knowledge in history. His tests are hard with the multiple choice because you generally don't know what to know about each key concept he gives you
Impossible multiple choice. Very disorganized and fell behind early on. Nice guy though.
He is one of the more memorable professors I had at Kutztown. He seems to love teaching, and is very helpful if you ask for it. For anyone who hates his tests, don't go to law school and take the bar. You will get those type of questions there!
great guy loves to teach tests were hard but i learned a lot i had the class a few years ago and still remember a lot
He is a challenging professor but really great at what he does. He loves history and anyone can tell just by sitting through one of his classes. Very intelligent, knows his material. I would recommend him to anyone. I enjoyed his class immensely.
At first he seemed intimidating and like the class would be overwhelming. He sincerely cares about his students and is always willing 2 help. I'm glad I didn't decide 2 drop his class.
I loved every minute of Dr. Delany's class. He knows his subject well and is an amazing teacher. I learned so much from him!
Delaney is hard, but he is a good teacher. You really can't slip on homework assignments or missing classes though cause it affects your grade with him.
I had him for Europe of the World Wars but dropped him. He is pretty boring, and I was taking the class for my own enjoyment, needless to say I did not want to sleep at Lytle when I could sleep at home
i loved delaney he was an awesome teacher and although i am not interested in history he actually didnt make it painful. he cares about his students and definately knows how to teach. his tests are a little hard but he gives u the key terms and the essays before so as long as u study youll be fine
really really knows his stuff and is passionate about what he teaches. tests were hard, but he told you exactly what to study, and often times gave bonus padding points on the test for no reason. take him if you're gonna go to class and study a good bit
OK, not an easy A! His lower level classes are harder than uppers. Harder on freshmen. Be on time to class and on time with everything. Study hard for the tests. He does have a heart, and he is fair. Don't judge him until you have had him for an upper level class. Your opinion will change!
Attendance Policy worse then a high school gym teacher. a few pointers delaney, you take it too seriously, its called hist 015 for a reason. if we cared we'd have taken a higher level course. so chill with the wicked hard tests, and just mellow out. just cause u love history dosent mean we do!
Anyone who thinks he's unreasonably hard for an intro course should just drop out and flip burgers at Wendy's, because you dont belong in college if you dont want to work. Extremely smart and helpful. Gets along great with his students. Proabably one of the best profs you'll find.
does not answer your questions and only cares about history majors.the man is an ****.
Dr. Delaney is a great teacher. take his holocaust class if you are interested in the subject, he is an expert and deff. knows what he's talking about and is very passionate about it.
Dr. Delaney is the man. People may gripe about his classes, but as long as you study, pay attention, and actually care about the course (gasp, there's a concept), you'll get a good grade. He's willing to talk and help you out. Ignore the losers who couldn't hack his course. Revolutions, people! :)
His tests for the Holocaust class were all essay, which was a pain in the *&^ to study for, but he's a fair grader. Make sure you go to class, participate, pay attention (it's upper level for a reason people!), and you'll get an A. Would definately take him again
Nice dude but total **** with his class. Rambled on for 3 hours and had tests that were impossible to study for. Took his job too seriously. Western Civilzation is irrelevant and doesnt matter anymore, move on.
He was my advisor and prof freshman year. I ended up switching my major and now I am a senior. I still think that Dr. Delaney is one of the best teachers here. He is very intelligent and interesting.
if u have him drop this class. I am about to do that. He talks fast and doesn't really even repeat himself. He gets off topic and tries to give stupid examples that don't work. The only thing u can do in that class is sleep. Screw this class im gettin the hell out of it.
worst class ever. Even if you pay attention in the class you don't really even learn anything. He gave us a study guide for one test and it turns out that that there was only three things off the study guide that was on the test. He's not clear enough when he talks, so his students can actually know what hes talking about.
Excellent Teacher. If you pay attention in class and do the readings you will do absolutely fine. I learned a lot from his class and I would suggest that anyone who can take him should. He is one of those rare finds who still finds education to be important and loves his job. I am very glad i had the opportunity to have him.
Fantastic professor. If you didn't like him you most likely got an F and are just being a whiney baby about it. I'd reccommed him to anyone. I enjoyed his class a lot and learned so much from him.
Bombed my first test, but then worked hard and ended up with an A in the class. Good prof, loves to play devil's advocate. So I would recommend him, but whatever you do, DON'T be late for his class :D He HATES that!
You need to take good notes to do well in this class. He hates multiple absences and tardiness so show up to every class and show up early. He won't just hand you a grad and he doesn't curve testse; what you get is what you earn.
I did well in his class. He liked me as a student. I didn't like him at all, not as a professor and not as a human being. Yes his class was hard, this is college. Yes I learned a lot, that's only part of a rating. This man is on a power trip and he terrifies me. I don't recommend him to anyone
You have to do literally whatever he says. There is no freedom in papers topics or contents. He has a very weird humor, that is actually somewhat hurtful. For the past year I have been trying to do something to impress him, I try so hard, but he always makes me feel it is not enough. He makes me feel like I am a disappointment.
Not impressed with him at all. he doesnt teach, he preaches from the podium. the gospel according to Delaney. Took him 4+ weeks to get our exams back, and was quite unapologetic about it. i expected a lot more from his course, and i think the shortcomings were on his part. i'd avoid him if i could.
Delaney is the worst professor I've had at Kutztown. He constantly fought with me over paper topics, he publicly humiliates people in class. God help you if your late, you'll never hear the end of it (he does not care about "your" problems, only his). He's a thoughtless & selfish man, and he takes forever getting your exams back to you. AVOID HIM!!
Probably the worst professor in the history department. I would know, im a graduating history major. He is very selfish and grumpy. He plays favorites too, so if youve got no choice but to take him, get in close because otherwise he wont give you the time of day. hes rude and boring. AVOID
I'd rather sit through a WHOLE DAYS worth of SOWERWINE's lectures than 50 minutes of this guy. Other ratings nailed it on the head. ARROGANCE.
my feelings are mixed. they change from class to class. somedays, he can be great... helpful, insightful, full of passion for history. but other days he can be irritable, judgemental, and arrogant. i cant tell... even after 3 classes with him...
Honestly, Dr. Delaney is by far one of the elite history profs at KU. He does what he can to help students with readings, papers, whatever. People that give him bad ratings aren't doing the work needed to be in a college class, they are the ones that do no work and sit quiet. Delaney is brilliant and I am lucky to have had two classes with him.
worst teacher ive ever had. when the average on a test is a 46 obviously somethings wrong. i had him at 8 am and he put the people who actually came to sleep.. he doesnt curve at all and your lucky if you pass.. aviod his class at all costs
I dont understand what everyone is saying. He is a tougher professor but he is a really nice guy. He is extremely intelligent and really enjoys teaching. He spent atleast 20 minutes of every class just talking to us about anything and everyting. Take him.
He would come in unprepared at least once a week for my 8am class. He then questioned us as of why our test grades were the lowest ones he has seen in all of his 15 years at KU. This class is almost impossible to pass. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
aweomse class. literature was so interesting and insightful. i always looked forward to this class! he tells you the essay questions and they are on the books you are suposse to read, so how can you do bad? ifound him very easy on the grading. i got a b in his class and would def take him again! this class was great. not sure about the others.
Overall good guy. Once he doesnt like you will pick on you the rest of the class and wont forget why and will keep reminding you of it. Stay on his good side and you'll be fine.
Very knowledgeable, I learned a lot from him. He likes to talk with the students before class and is genuinely interested in them. Attendance is important, and he HATES it when people walk into his class after it's already started, so don't. His tests weren't too bad, he gives a study guide a week before and if you stick to that and read it's easy.
You can definitely tell Dr. Delaney cares about what he is teaching. When I took History of the Holocaust with him, he did not just throw facts at us. There was a lot of reading and effort expected on our part. But that was so we would understand the context of the times and the human element of the history. Well worth the challenge.
I had him for History of Civ. B. He hates lateness no never be late to one of his classes. Take good lecture notes and listen to everything he says because his essays come from the lectures. If he likes you he will pick on you. He made fun of me almost everyday but I still got a B.
The reason this professor is so amazing to listen to, and learn from, is because he teaches you with emotion. He is deeply connected with the material, and really has a passion for teaching. The class is challenging with a lot of reading, but the end result is worth it. Best class I have taken at this University, and it isn't even my major!
He can get boring at times, but he knows his stuff. Everyone else is right though, get on his good side because if you make him angry for a stupid reason he won't forget about it. Do you work and go to class and you will be fine, and learn a lot.
He's somewhat rude. If you are late to class, you might as well just drop the class. His tests are pretty hard and doesn't use technology, so take lots of notes!
i really like him..he is a great teacher and i have never heard anything rude come out of his mouth..he is funny and a nice guy..i would recommend him to any history major..u do alot of reading but it is well worth it and not a waste of ur time..and ur in college so do u really expect to not read in a class with a complex history?
History of the Holocaust is on of the best classes I have had. The books used are very good. Dr D knows his stuff well and makes class interesting. Study sheets are very helpful for tests. Do the work and you'll be okay. His lack of technology use is a drawback. Videos are very good, but I miss welldone powerpoint presentations.Take this class
He was rude and very blunt. If your so much as a minute late, he'll give you a paper to write. He lectures the entire time. Personally, he was very boring.
Worst professor I've had thus far. He disrupts his class for any possible distraction going on and all technology is banned. He requires your full attention, so if you need to attend to a personal matter with a phone, don't think of doing it inside or outside the class. Either way, it'll get you insulted and kicked out. Avoid like the plague.
When i first sat in his has and class and he began talking and i saw that he was not writing anythin gon the board i panicked. But i began to get use to him and was able to keep up. All you need to do is listen and write and you will be fine and keep up with readings and test are not that bad you do have to write an essay for each test but its ok!!
He was probably one of the worst profs I've had. It's hard to follow along in class. You are not allowed to get up FOR ANY REASON, and lateness is unacceptable. You'll get kicked out. Reading the text is only useful for the essays on the exam, the rest is from class, which is hard to follow along, and keep up with what he's saying.
WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. Avoid History of Civ with him @ ALL costs!
I used to love history, before I took his class. I think he means well, but he comes off very rude. He only lectures and acts as if he doesn't care. I am usually tolerable for most professors, but I was not with him. He also does not tolerate phone use, he hates it, be aware. The class is very boring. Good luck.
This professor is awesome. You have to read for his class, but all the readings are interesting. It's so refreshing to have a professor that cares so deeply about what they are teaching. Going to class was not difficult, and I actually looked forward to it. If you go to class and participate you will be fine. TAKE THIS CLASS!
I dislike this dude. He was very boring durin his lectures and went on and on about things that were irrelevant to any of his test. All of the information is in the text you don't need to bring a notebook to class, I'd suggest you bring a pillow instead. For our final essay he told me and a classmate that he skimmed through to save time like wtf
I love professor Delaney. His class is really actually interesting and you learn a ton that they don't teach you in high school. He also really cares about his students. He was really flexible with due dates and he valued our feedback. He is passionate about teaching and history and it shows. I would definitely take this class again
He is very smart & knows a good amount about his subject. His lectures are old school, dry & tend to be lack luster. I had him twice & his history of the holocaust class was great. I wouldn't recommend taking him for senior sem unless you plan to do your final paper on German from 1900-1945. He made everyone do their senior papers on this subject.
Delaney is a really nice guy. He's willing to help you. He is pretty strict about classroom conduct, but I think it made me respect him. Tests are a little on the tough side, but he's still worth taking. I'd take him again.
Dr. Delaney is a gift.
Dr. Delaney is one of the greatest professors I've ever had. Absolutely would recommend.
Awful. I don't like history in the first place but he just made it even more boring. Oh and if you're even a minute late expect to get dirty looks and comments from him throughout the lecture.
Unorganized, what he says is on the exam isn't so you end up studying things that aren't on the exam but were on the study guide. Goes too fast during lectures and assumes the class knows how to spell German words. Did not enjoy this class as much as I thought i would.
Dr. Delaney is a well traveled man with a lot of knowledge in German history. He is very personable and enjoys when the class gets involved in discussion. There were a lot of readings but he gets you invested in the subject & encourages students with tips & hints towards success. Pay attention & show up to class to do well.
Prof. Delaney will not allow use of your cell phone, you cannot be late, and you cannot leave class. His tests are purely essay memorization, and he falsely gives information as to what will be on the test, which results in students very frequently studying the wrong material and failing to no fault of their own.
Dr. Delaney fails to explain test material. Multiple choice test questions are not taught in class they are meant to be taught on your own from 200 pages of textbook material. Gives 25 topics to study for multiple choice and fails to use even half. Essays are impossible, he gives multiple essay options but eliminates most the day of exam
I hated him as a professor and as a person. He is constantly 'distracted' by the dumbest things, and even stopped a lecture to make a guy blow his nose in the middle of flu season because the sniffling was too distracting for him. He requires hours of reading, but the reading only counts for minimal points on the tests.
His classes are nothing but lectures and you have to be ready to take nothing but notes. His reading assignments are incredibly long so it is quite hard to even read and comprehend. He never gives study reviews, and his questions are ambiguous. Real hard to study with only notes and the book. Good luck understanding how he speaks, vocab crazy.
Good. Luck. Assigns mountains of material to memorize out of the textbook (hundreds of pages) to then hold the most boring class you have ever attended while giving you tests based off of 10-20 MP questions worth 5 points each. Whenever hes not doing that, youre tested through writing essays of which he MIGHT tell you the subject of to study.
very boring class. lots of notes. very hard to study from just notes and hard to understand the long pages of reading.
Overall, he's a great guy. He's willing to help if you need it. However, he tends to have a temper if you rub him the wrong way. Just make sure you always show up to class (when he does have it, since he tended to cancel frequently). Also, his tests are very difficult, so make sure you study your butt off.
Dr. Delaney is a good man, not a good teacher. Very hard grader, tells you to read books for tests but doesnt give you insight to the test question till the day of. He has angry outbursts a lot, at least he did in my class. Watch a lot of videos on the Holocaust but he focused more on Nazi History. I would not recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Delaney is a good guy but horrible teacher. Hes very out of date with his teaching skills, he just writes key points he wants to discuss in class on the board an lectures for the whole class. Since he write everything on the board he then forgets where he left off at next class. Lots of reading!!!!! Extremely hard test!!! Do not take!!
cool enough guy. not that good of a teacher. luckily i was on his good side. listen in class, read the textbook to the best of your ability, and be descriptive on the essays. follow these steps and youll end with at least a C
He does not follow the syllabus, prepare his lectures, or clearly explain test material. He stands there for an uncomfortable length of time thinking of what he'll say next and gets distracted by dumb things like people sniffling. Also takes an unreasonable amount of time to return grades. At best, his lectures are very informative and interesting.
Class: Hitler: Rise to Power. Not organized at all, knows a lot about Germany but rarely talked about Hitler. Grading is all over the place. Willing to give points back if he sees fit (usually for a mistake he made).
Took this guy my freshman year. Wanted to come back and say he was the worst professor I had at Kutztown. I have a very high GPA; this was one of the few Bs I ever received. Its pathetic how much I had to work for it, especially looking back and realizing it was a general education course. Take anyone else. And dont sneeze.
This man is one of the many reasons I left college. Snide comments, his charts outlining the class make no sense, brags about his German speaking skills (and will mock you for not being fluent like him). Had the nerve to ask me gonna make it to December? And laughed at me. I struggled academically because people like him triggered my depression.
He seems like a sweet guy but his lectures are more like rants... no legitimate way to take useful notes. He doesn't ever point out what you need to know in his rambles. No real application to any information. There's no organization, he doesn't post on D2L, not interactive or engaging at all. One of the worse professors I've had.
Maybe the worst professor at Kutztown. Has no tech skills and the worst grading policies. If you have him switch out of him, if you cant good luck! Youre in for a bumpy ride.
This man has good intentions, but I feel like he needs to change with the times or retire. In the midst of COVID-19 he shows no remorse for anything. He does not use powerpoints, shows maps in different languages, etc. No assignments, no required reading, not even homework. Grade is based on 3 essay exams. Switch if you can. If not, good luck.
Very knowledgeable about his content. However, he only lectures.
He was clear in the beginning about how this semester would go - very lecture heavy, with 3 tests each making up 30% of your grade. Easy quizzes for the rest. He doesn't really lecture from many notes, its up to you to note down things you need.
Lectures very heavy, no textbook use, and the only grades we had were our 3 exams. VERY specific on being in class on time, even yelled at a kid when he came in 2 minutes late. Says it interrupts his "story telling" when he's lecturing. He is a nice person I just think he really needs to reevaluate how he teaches. I could understand nothing.
He might be one of the worst professors I've ever had. He's very smart, but very pretentious, and gets distracted by anything. You cannot be late or leave class at anytime, and his lectures are all in class and not online for you to look up. On top of that, you must 200 pages per test, while only having 3 the entire semester. He should retire now.
His classes were hard, and felt really dated. No PowerPoints, chalkboards that were hard to follow, and books out the wazoo. It also felt like he relied on books to teach his content for him. I've taken him three times, each for different classes, and I wouldn't recommend you take him for anything unless you have no choice.
He is a nice guy, but not a great teacher. His class was lecture heavy, terms were given in German instead of English, and notes written on the chalkboard were very archaic. Grades were all centered around a few assigned reading essays, pretty tough too. I wouldn't recommend his classes, I've had a few, and none of them were good for me.
