Cares about students. Inspires versus "tells." Students and their careers matter to John. One of most respected professors by far. Kind you will remember always.
Come to class because it's hella informative and he gives has tons of life experience to share. He cares about his students and loves to keep in touch and know what is going on in your life. He is a great mentor and professor. This class is easy because he cares so much. TAKE THIS CLASS - tests are open book and straightforward.
Professor Dietrich was such an amazing professor and mentor. You would seriously be blessed to get into his class! I highly recommend any class he teaches, you will learn through hands on projects and many guest speakers. His lectures are great and really teach you real life examples. Take his class!!! You won't regret it!
As far as ASU goes, John is the best teacher I've had! Much of my opinion is based off how genuinely engaged he gets students to participating in class. He doesn't ask much but to be open, honest, and to participate in class. Also, he gives REAL world experience around issues that will actually apply to you no matter your career. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I took Dietrich for 302 and was so happy to see that he was teaching another course. He is a great teacher - he really cares for his students and wants to help them as much as he can. He brings in tons of experience to class and loves to share his, along with others through guest speakers. Buy the book because all the tests are open book.
Amazing professor who really cares about his students success. Gives real examples and uses his life experiences to teach the class rather than just reading straight out of the textbook. Definitely take this class even if you are not interested in sales!
Take this class. It's easy as hell, but you actually learn a lot. He tells you the test questions as well as making exams partially open book. Homework is once a week and u answer 2-4 chapter questions that are cake. Even though the class is easy, I've leaned more about sales and marketing in the class than any other classes I've taken. Great guy
John is a great professor that seems to really care about his students. Gives great feedback on homework and is there for you in any way you need. One of the better experiences I've had with professors during my stay at ASU. Highly recommend taking any of his courses.
Great teacher! One of the best teachers at ASU! He really cares about the students and is understanding. The guest speakers are interesting and relevant. Tests are easy if you go to class and do the reading. You will be able to pass this class if you pay attention and do the work. All of the assignments are pretty simple.
John is an amazing teacher! He has been my professor for several courses and is by far my favorite professor at ASU. He really cares about his students and their success. He brings a lot of real world experience you can't get from a text book. He is very knowledgable and he is always willing to help. MUST take!!!!!
John is a great professor. He brings his real world experience to the class and he does not read straight from the text book or have boring lecture slides that you have to follow. It is an open discussion, forum class with a lot of student input. He is a great contact to have and always is available for help.
Mr Dietrich was an amazingly helpful professor. He provided me with great insight in the class room as well as in my professional future. Regularly brought in polarizing guest speakers to bring the material to life with professional application. Definitely recommend this class
This class is amazing if you have even thought about sales. John gives real world experience and brings in awesome guest speakers that wont bore you to death. Get the eBook for the class(it will help on the tests). I would definitely recommend John for a mentor as well.
John does a great job making sure you know the material rather than making you memorize it. He truly cares about what he does teaches the students. If you are looking to actually learn than rather spit out information on tests than I highly recommend taking him for any class he offers. He is helpful both inside and outside the classroom.
John is quite possibly the best professor I have ever encountered in my time at ASU. He taught me so much about the world of marketing and how limited my scope actually was. His lectures were interesting and he definitely notes who comes to his class. Show up! It is worth it to your future career.
John was one of the best professors I have ever encountered during my time at ASU. He taught me about the world of marketing and how narrow my scope actually was. His lectures are interesting and worth attending for your future career. I would definitely take another class from him!
John used a very effective mix of lecture, discussion, and real world examples through guest speakers and tours. His assignments were challenging enough to expose weaknesses which he identified through extremely constructive feedback. I'm completely satisfied with John's facilitation of the class.
Let's just say, when I saw the opportunity to take another marketing class with this professor, I jumped at the chance. Dietrich has been one of my favorite professors at ASU and makes class incredibly interactive. He brings in amazing guest speakers (he seems to know just about everybody) and teaches lessons that go beyond the classroom.
I would definitely take this class if you want an easy A and learn about marketing. There's one big marketing project throughout the class that wasn't too bad, and the tests are open book.
John is a working professor, therefore he has what most university professors lack, current experience in the field but also empathy for students working and attending school simultaneously. He is very pragmatic and understanding, one of the best professors I've had at ASU. Keep in contact with him as well, he has connections. Great guy too!
John was such a great professor! I took him for MKT 302. Not only did a learn a ton, he's extremely personal and truly cares about his student's well-being, succes, and lives. His class is straight forward. I wouldn't say "easy," just show up, do the work, and study.
I have taken two classes w Dietrich & wish that he taught more courses! He is one of those teachers that actually gets to know his students on a more personal level & really cares about your success in his class. His discussion based lectures are engaging and he gets everyone involved in the conversation. Online open book tests are an easy A.
Professor Dietrich is a very inspiring professor who knows understands the real life influence of marketing. He helped me to see that marketing is more than just sales, it is awareness. He helped clarify the difference between content and advertising. He helps you see the best you and brings in outside connections to help find internships.
I enjoyed working with JT. He went out of his way to make sure our class was enjoyable, hands-on, and most importantly that we learned something. I feel that John truly cares about what he does, and that goes a long way as a teacher.
JT is passionate about what he does and those in his classes. He focuses a real life application and ensures everyone grasps the necessary concepts to be successful. He continues to be a great mentor for me.
It really says something about the quality of the teacher when more than half the class stays afterward on the last day to thank you for the semester. John is a phenomenal professor, mentor and all around amazing person. I'm hoping that he teaches other classes in the future so I can take him for a third time!
Great class and even better teacher! During the semester we had two sales speakers and went to a Phoenix Suns game to meet with their marketing department. Attend class and take part in class discussion! Whether you're new to sales or you want to refresh and improve your skills, definitely take this class with Professor Dietrich!
Super great teacher, lectures are supposed to 3 hours long, but he like to keep things simply and short, so he only do like 1-2 hours lecture. his class is very easy to understand, and he shared his personal experiences on sales, super useful. Easy A class, homework are easy, and exam are open book, as long as you attend the class, you will be fine
One of the best marketing professors at ASU. He is the nicest man in the world and will truly help you exceed in the course and your future career. He brings in knowledgable and relevant speakers to help with the material. He is very approachable and understanding. Without a doubt take his class.
The best professor I have had at ASU. John is helpful, caring, and a great professor. He was well loved by everyone in the class. To succeed, you just need to do the readings. He will go over possible quiz and test questions in class and never throws any curveballs your way! Also, you usually get out of class early.
He is the best teacher I have ever had, he helps with everything and is very clear and lenient. I loved this class. He goes over everything on the test before the test and there is no surprises. He is always happy to help and is available whenever!
Prof. Dietrich is the best. He wants you to succeed and goes out of his way for people. Tests are not open book but if you attend class he gives you a clear study guide. He is a great lecturer and gets to the point. Tells you what you need to know and doesn't waste your time. Other than tests there are two small in class assignments.
Best professor I have had at ASU by far! I had him for MKT 452 & MKT 410 and he is great for both classes. He has clear expectations for the class and gives a great study guide for his test. I enjoyed going to his classes, and he made sure you let the class out as soon as we finished the material. TAKE HIS CLASSES!
Great professor, if you go to class he basically gives you the questions for the test. The material is pretty dry but if you read the textbook pages she tells you to, you will pass easily. you can do super easy extra credit and raise your grade by 2%. The final is open book. Nothing really bad to say. YOU NEED THE BOOK.
Good teacher, only has 3 tests and one final; no homework at all in the class. Final was easy being open note, but previous tests were fairly hard if you actually came to class to take them. The department needs to check into students signing in to take the test, because many people cheated by taking the tests at home and using notes and the book.
John is a great teacher. He understands that the material is dry and presents it as notes that you will need to know for the final. He does engaging activities to help you understand. The class is not difficult if you participate and study the material that he tells you is on the test.
If you study with this professor you will learn. It may not be the easiest class but its not incredibly difficult. Professor Dietrich is always available when you need him. He teaches in a style that makes learning very easy. The assignments directly line up with the work in class. If you don't pass its because you don't put forth the effort.
John is by far the most influential and helpful professor I have had at ASU. He made it clear multiple times he was available to talk after class or in his office hours and the advice he gave me helped me find my career path. He is well connected with great professional experience and is a professor because he just wants to help others succeed.
Amazing teacher, and makes the class enjoyable. The class will never go the full time, it usually only goes for an hour. The first test is not open notes, but the second one is. Pretty easy class and the teacher is awesome! Would def. take his class again.
On the first day Prof. Dietrich looked completely intimidating because of his piercing blue eyes but he is an amazing professor. He'll give out letters of rec. and will give out your resume to companies in need of workers/intern. 2 speakers the whole semester. Don't miss them because they are a great way to get internships or jobs and network.
John is great. He teaches you real world values, which can be hard to find in a business school. He also teaches you what it is like to be in the industry, and relies very little on the textbook. His teaching style is different and not the most structured, but he is an amazing resource regardless. Very interesting to listen to.
Great professor. Lecture is quick, interesting and easy. Open note tests. Funny guy. Would take again. Got an A in the class, didn't try too hard. Took this for a Business minor class. 10/10 would recommend.
Easily the best marketing professor at ASU. He should be teaching other professors how to teach. I've taken two classes with him, he truly wants the best for his students. I've watched him help multiple students land jobs. His ability to relate to course content and textbook to real world situations is very impressive. Take his class!
Very easy class, teaches out of the textbook, but makes class engaging and interesting enough to show up. Never lasts longer than 60-90 minutes, group project is also easy.
Professor Dietrich is awesome. He really pushed me to challenge myself, but he is also very reasonable if you talk to him. Make sure you ask him what version of the book to buy or you will have trouble with the tests. Take him if you can!
Dietrich is without a doubt the best professor I have ever had the pleasure of having. You learn such valuable real-world information from an experienced professional. He cares so much about students and wants to help everyone succeed not just in class but in life. He is so direct, you know exactly what the tests are on and what your grade is.
I took Dietrich for both MKT 410 and 452. He is by far the best teacher I've ever had in any level of school. He doesn't care what you do in class but he'll make you want to pay attention with his witty humor and the fact that he tells you exactly what's on the test. If you ever need personal or professional help, he'll drop anything to help you.
He offers so many extra credit opportunities. It is obvious he wants to see his students be successful. He is straightforward. He curves the test which is awesome! He manages to engage his audience in his lectures and make it interesting. He's a solid guy. I wish he could teach all my remaining MKT classes.
I always show up to every class but for 1 day per week, the 3 hour class rarely goes past 30min which is disappointing... don't get a lot from it. He also cancels class a lot but random pop quizzes on days he does come to class. Grading is hit and miss, didn't agree with a lot of questions asked. Nice guy and engaging when he lectures, interesting
John is definitely the coolest and best teacher I've had in the business school. He makes lectures really interesting and fun. He tells you what is on the test and what to study before the test so tests are super easy. Also a really easy group project, but no paper, just a presentation. Take him if you can, he will make your semester fun and easy
John is a fantastic teacher and a brilliant guy. He goes out of his way to make sure you're doing alright, and his lectures are super informative and funny. The assignments and tests weren't too hard, but I still felt like I learned a lot. The book reading was very boring, and is probably my only complaint.
John was the best Professor I ever had at Arizona State, and one that I will remember for the rest of my life. He keeps you there for FULL class time but it's loaded with good material and the KIND of material that you walk out of there and say WOW. I did not eve en get an A, but he is fair, approachable, and dynamic. Take! This! Class!
One of ASU's best professors. His sales class was informative, and you could get by without reading outside of class if you had to. However, you'll need the book for exams. He tries to make things as simple as possible. If you get less than A you only have yourself to blame.
John is one of my favorite professors at ASU. He is very down to earth and loves to connect with his students, he is always there for you and always comes with an understanding point, whether you have an exam or you have to do something important other than his class, just speak to him. Loved him and love the way he teaches. Thank you John!
If you have the opportunity take him. He's very accessible and genuinely wants you to do well. Also, he knows what he's talking about.
Lecture slides are super easy to study from. I study from those the morning of the test and still get an A. He sets you up to do well. He wants you to pass. The class before he will go over everything that's on the test. The class usually never runs the full time. I've had him twice and if I wasn't graduating I'd take another class.
John wants you to pass his class. The lecture slides are perfect for the quizzes/exams & he tells you what will be on them. Rarely did we stay a full class period, he does not waste time. His feedback is what you expect from a caring professor. Interested in Sales? John will help you improve your skills and even find a job. His network is great.
I have loved this class with John. My only regret is that I didn't take one with him sooner. He cares about his students and wants you to succeed. He goes over the exams prior to taking them, so you know what to study. Class never goes the full 3 hours. He gets straight to covering the material and doesn't waste time.
John is an unreal teacher. As many have said he wants you to do well and gives you every opportunity to be successful. Show up and listen and you will take more than just credits with you when its over.
I love his classes! The project is semester long but it is very easy. And he will give detailed feedback for your assignments! Nice professor!
One of the easiest and most useful business classes you may ever take (so long as you show up to class). His real-world sales experience is simple yet effective when it comes to influencing, communicating, and negotiating well. As an engineering student, I believe his class has something to offer to everyone regardless of their background or major.
Love this class! Show up and you'll pass its as simple as that. He randomly takes attendance 2 times the entire semester. Definitely go to class the day of quiz reviews, he will tell you word for word (sometimes even projects actual test questions on the board) what is on the test. Great guy and pretty easy class to get an A in with minimal effort
I have never had a class give me MANY useful tips and understandings of theworld AFTER college. John wants to see you succeed and he does everything in his power to let you succeed in MKT452 and in a career. 1 group project, 2 pop quizzes, 2 homeworks, 3 guest lectures. Tells you what will be on tests. SO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT. Amazing professor
Dietrich is awesome!!! By far, the best professor to take for MKT 452. He's such a sweet guy and genuinely wants his students to succeed. Always accessible by phone, text, or email
Dietrich is 1000% the BEST professor I've had. MKT 391 never had homework, pop quizzes in class are super easy, 3 essay's are extremely easy because he tells you word for word the questions on exams including midterm and FINAL! He's super caring and respected. Always made lectures engaging and fun!! DEFINITELY TAKE HIM you won't regret it!
Class is mainly lectures with some guest speakers. Lectures are fairly interesting and are connected to real life examples. Tons of extra credit opportunities. He tells you exactly what will be on the tests beforehand.
Professor Dietrich is a great one! He tells you everything that will be on the exams and quizzes. So much extra credit. He gives extra credit just for answering questions in class. Very accessible outside class and very fair. If you have a concern he might give you points back even if you were wrong just because he wants you to take initiative.
John is a very easy going professor - he will always make sure you know what to expect and very rarely throws surprises at you. A couple pretty nice takeaways for marketing and sales folks as well, so just show up to class, listen, and you'll do great in this class!
Professor Dietrich is one of the best teachers at ASU. He cares about his students' success in school and life! You will learn a lot from this class and how to succeed in your professional career. Just show up and pay attention to the lectures and you'll do well!
I would highly recommend! He was super understanding and I actually enjoyed his lectures! He gives tons of opportunities for extra credit and for class discussions. Tests are challenging but if you pay attention to lectures and listen to his test reviews you will get a B or A with no problem.
John is an awesome professor. His lectures actually focus on the world outside of college, and his advice is applicable no matter what industry you're in or degree you have. He truly care about his student's success. Show up and you'll pass easily you wouldn't even want to miss his lectures to be honest!
MKT 452 is one of the easiest classes I've taken. Dietrich is really funny and his lectures are decently interactive, lots of real-world info. Tons of extra credit opportunities and the tests are super easy. If you're looking for an easy A marketing elective this is the one.
Fantastic professor. Uses lots of real-life experiences to demonstrate lessons. Lessons almost always get out early and he rewards in-class participation and rewards it with extra credit. Very caring and makes lessons entertaining-definitely would take again.
I have never filled out a review on here, but Prof Dietrich is the best professor I have had at ASU. His class is the perfect combination of actually interesting, humor, real life scenarios, and never run longer than 45 minutes. He tells you exactly what will be on exams (which are very easy) and gives heaps of extra credit.
BEST PROFESSOR I've ever had. Had him for MKT452 & 410 in the same semester & wish I could take him for more classes. Best thing about John is he truly cares about setting up his students for real world success. Engaging lectures, lots of extra credit, 1 group project, mc & T/F quizzes, 3 super easy pop quizzes, & tons of corporate conncections
a tons of extra credits, take advantage of them, just study for the exam, you should be fine
The realest and most knowledgeable professor Ive ever had at ASU. He makes sure to use real life scenarios in his lectures to get his students to understand his topics. He makes sure to keep it interesting throughout the whole time. Just make sure to study for the tests and do the optional extra credit. He wants you to succeed! 10/10 recommend!
Professor Dietrich is an awesome professor, and I would highly recommend his course. He made B2B Marketing really interesting for my summer course, while also not being too heavy on the assignments. He really cares about student success, and he will help you in the right direction if you need some guidance. Could not recommend enough, great teacher
Amazing professor and just all around great guy. You can tell he really cares about teaching and always tries to make his lectures fun and engaging. Highly recommend this professor!!
professor dietrich was my favorite professor at ASU! take his class you will not regret it
Such a great guy, he teaches things that are important in life rather than just textbook material. If you're interested in sales def take this class with him, he's awesome!
He is one of the most caring professors I have ever had. He will work with you! Tons of extra credit!!!
Prof. Dietrich was a good instructor. I found much of the content of the course to be boring (I am not a business/marketing major), so I didn't find the lectures engaging, but he made them as entertaining as they could possibly be. The workload is super light. He offers tons of extra credit, so take advantage of that!
He is a cares and gives you plenty of opportunity to succeed in his class. The quizzes and exams are surprisingly difficult, so do not go in there thinking you can win them and get an A. Make sure you read, attend class, and just give it your best effort. If you have issues, talk to him, he is very fair and understanding. Highly Recommend!
John's course content isn't complex, but his tests are deliberately challenging. Attend all three guest speakers' sessions or risk losing 100 points per speaker; one date changed abruptly this semester. Be vigilant. Expect two surprise quizzes scheduled on days of high absenteeism like Halloween.
Dietrich is wonderful! Not sure what everyone's saying about his exams being "difficult" -- if you pay attention on his test review days, you're almost guaranteed to get a 95-100. He hints at every answer before you even take the test! Uses class time efficiently and is a caring, thoughtful person who puts effort into his students' success 24/7.
One of the best professors I've had at ASU! John's insight into the business world is unique and important, and he truly wants the best for each of his students. His unique teaching style is amazing, and he makes his class easy with plenty of extra credit and exam review for each test. He has genuinely changed my perspective, take him if you can!
His lectures are actually interesting and useful & averaged about 25mins. 6 discussions, 5 short unproctored quizzes, 1 proctored final exam, & 1 written/video assignment applying the concepts. Textbook not necessary. Study prior quiz questions for final exam. It was a fast-paced online course but his feedback and structure made it a breeze!
Great professor one of my favorite professors I have taking at ASU. His lectures are really interesting , he gets to the point and his classes don't go the full time. Highly reccommend taking.
Great professor, I really enjoyed how understanding and easy going he was. He truly cares about what he teaches and how he teaches. Rare gem this guy.
Really great guy and wants to see his students do well. Gives great life and sales career advice—but just okay management advice. His exams are EXTREMELY DETAIL ORIENTED AND EXACTLY what he says. Typos/inconsistencies drive him nuts on presentations. His lectures are to the point and lets you out early. Attend all classes. Extra credit options.
This is probably the best business elective I have taken so far at ASU. Prof. Dietrich cares about his students like no other teacher here. Lectures are very engaging and are based off of important things that you will need to know about in life that no other professor will tell you. If you have a chance, I would 100% take this class.
Dietrich is a great professor! His lectures were short and he made the material easily digestible. He tells you exactly what's on the tests/quizzes so it's impossible not to get a high score if you study. There's one group project and he doesn't provide a rubric for it but he grades them pretty leniently. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
The most overrated professor at ASU. John's a good guy and is clearly well-intentioned, but he's overly preachy, often with sentiment coded in corporate rhetoric. The grading structure makes no sense since every assignment (including tests) is weighted the same. His slideshows are sloppy and hard to follow. Don't be fooled by his charisma...
I love Professor Dietrich. I never knew what he was actually teaching but the class was fun. He just yaps about life a lot and then you take a couple of pretty easy tests. Group project is easy and he's not a harsh grader. Highly recommend if you need a easy business class.
Professor Dietrich is the best marketing professor I've had at ASU. Lectures are quick and clear, with great slides and study guides. Lots of extra credit, guest speakers, and pop quizzes—so attend class. Easy if you try. Respect him a lot—great professor and person!
Professor Dietrich cares about the success of his students during the semester and beyond. His classes are concise, straightforward, and memorable. Also provides us with relevant anecdotes that stay with you for awhile. Take both 410/452 with him if possible.
Professor Dietrich is incredibly kind and offers lots of extra credit. The class doesn't have that many graded assignments so don't skimp on studying for his exams, they are around 25 questions only too. As long as you go to class, he will tell you what to look for on exams!
