Good Professor. He makes the class interesting. He doesn't make you memorize terms. He actually teaches. You will have to understand the concepts and use application wich is a better way of learning than memorizing terms without understanding how to apply them in a situation. Recommend taking him if you want to learn the principles of MKTG.
The five question short answer exams are so disappointing makes you feel worthless
He is a great professor but when it comes to test he is extremely hard...he knows what he talks about. I had a hard time in his class. avoid him if you can
Do NOT take him .... He lectures and he expects you to be a guru at Marketing ! The test are 5 questions essay open book .... do not be fooled by the open book it is extremely difficult ... take good notes b/c the test will be bout some random thing he said he grades the test with a huge curve...I passed with a "B" only by luck !
I say he's an okay teacher. Lots of reading and strict timing for online tests that he gives, but you can take it at home. His presentation seemed to be easy enough but he graded it really hard. LOTS of reading though. Lectures are long, but not mandatory. Talks about randomness a lot. Just do good on the quizes and tests (he curves).
I took this Professor in the summer 1 session. He is useless he does not teach in class. He is a waste of time.He has 15 quizzes online, Midterm, and a final. And the project that he gave us was supposed to be through web conferencing ( Presentation online. His tests are easy but you have to do the reading I made an "A" but I wouldn't recommend him
Very hard grader. On line you have 13 group case studies. Good luck who?s in your group. If you don?t like the members in your group you will have to do all the work on your own. He will grade you the same. Three hard tests. (He does not curve). Final paper 7 pages long. He will discount points for anything he doesn?t like. Good luck if u take him
Don't waste your time or money.
Doesn't curve and grades very hard. I passed all his exams and most quizes and still got a D+ only because i missed one step on the project. Would not recommend.
Do not take this instructor! Quizzes for every chapter, 15 ?'s in 15 minutes AND you don't get to see which you got wrong or correct...how can we learn from that? Some ?'s are really long too! 3 tests with the same tight time constraint, 2 case studies which made no sense to me, and a power point presentation. Stay away from this instructor!!
I was very scared when i signed up because of the reviews i read here. This is teacher is NOT that HARD. 15 questions in 15 mins, but the answers are easily available online or in the notes. I DID NOT EVEN USE THE BOOK and I'm half way in the class and i got all As so far for all the tests and quizzes. COMEON people this is college not HS
Take this class online in summer, this is all you will be doing.18 quizzes 15 questions each, 3 tests 75 questions each, 1 case study 12 questions from the video, and ppt narrated project. You get 1 min to answer question and some are page long.He does not answer emails. From the start to end you on your own.Zero tolerance.Choice is yours my friends
Dillard is a bit challenging. There are 18 mini quizzes which you are able to take twice (keeps highest score), 3 exams (only take once), 1 case able to take twice (highest score) and 1 major project (due at the end of sem)He sticks to his deadlines but gives you plenty of time. Only take him if he is your last resort!
Covers a lot of information for each test. Three exams, 18 quizzes (1 per chapter), a case study and a Powerpoint project. The project sounds like a lot more work than it actually is. Doing the reading will give you decent grades on quizzes & exams but make sure you understand the concepts if you want an A.
Dr. Dillard is one of the best professors I have ever had. He gives a quiz over each chapter, a video quiz, and a ppt presentation project that's easy enough if you start it early in the semester and work on it up to the due date. Would highly recommend taking him!
He is bad teacher. Don't take his class if you wanna fail this course.
don't take his class if you want a F. He does not help at all in his course. He is worse teacher i have ever had...
Don't take his class if you want to fail this class.
I have never been so completely astonished at the lack of attention of an instructor. It was fairly clear that the instructor posted the tests and quizzes and then completely checked out. I might as well have taken the class from a robot. Exams were inane and tested for useless memorization of facts that didn't apply to concept of marketing at all.
I took this class hybrid. His lectures were interesting and very fun to listen but had nothing to do with the test and quizzes that were online. they were timed, so you had to be quick. and has a ppt project that you should do ahead of time, its pretty simple. overall, i say if you dont know who take him.
Took in winter mini session. A test per chapter 15 question, 15 min. Some questions long couldn't read all and understand before time was up for that question. Horrible experience or test anxiety. Project was fun but he graded pretty hard, I thought my project was awesome, better than his examples. Would not take him ever again
Took this class in May mini session. If you are not going to devote your time reading the chapters don't even bother on taking this class at all. 18 quizzes-15 questions each and only have 15 mins to do them. 3-75 question exams, 1 case & a project. Lots of work. DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM.
Bottom-line, worst professor I've ever had. Flat out lied about exams. Waste of money. Don't even think about taking a class from this joker.
Good professor, several classmates & myself had a hard time understanding his grading reasoning. The class is mainly cases. Not familiar with a case, look up online. Your midterm &final are questions on a case. One project due at end, get started on it early on to avoid stress. Uploading project to YouTube took me 45 min
If you dont do the work you wont pass. Period. he doesnt give pity. if you miss a quiz or test you fault. theres a prj easy dont wait. best thing is almost all questions are online. google it! now you have to be quick. at least skim the chp. his notes are pointless he doesnt give all the stuff for testquizzes 15 ques15 min Test are 75ques75 mins
Ok, marketing is not supposed to be as hard as this guy makes it out to be. I took him online so maybe its easier in person. He gives you 75 minutes to answer 75 questions for the exams and only 15 minutes to answer 15 questions on the quizzes. don't bother looking through the book because you'll just run out of time.
Hard grader
He is a good professor. I learned a lot from him. To receive a good grade is not easy, but possible. Be ready to read many cases and do your homework assignment. Suggestion: start working on your individual project way in advance because it takes some time to complete it. His lectures are not boring. He explains many useful things.
Few people will get an A in his course. Lectures are interesting and fun but won't help you on the midterm and final. There are 4 group papers based on case & teams are assigned by the prof. He's a tough grader and gives NO FEEDBACK other than the grade. Don't bother buying the textbook as everything is based on cases. Start your project early!
Timing & amt of work is unreasonable - Entire textbook, 2 cases, 6 case analyses & 6 critiques per class. Learned little about marketing, learned more in undergraduate course. Class was complete waste of time & money. The university should take a very close look at this course and restructure / improve the syllabus for the professor. (my opinions)
For being principle of marketing his quiz and exams are not fare. Because the amount of time he gives per question, it is not reasonable, 1 minute per question. The questions are extremely long, and they are not terms. These questions are concepts, so you have to think about what the question is asking. it is extremely hard to get an "A".
Great teacher! Very clear instructions for assignments and exams/quizzes. This class is not hard if you took it and you thought it was than you really didn't try. He is very clear from the beginning about not underestimating the time commitment for this class!!!
You have no choice but to take him for this class since he's the only one teaching it. Good Luck! Grades are based on three tests, and individual SPSS and group SPSS that you will probably never use every in your life! This guy never answered emails and was not so clear on directions. He was absent until the last month of semester! Worst professor!
He's a tough grader but he gives you all the tools you need to get a good grade. He's more helpful & available than most other professors in and out of class. He teaches the information well & provides projects to show gain experience with SPSS. I left his class with a new skill. I enjoyed the knowledge he shares and I would take him again.
Took him online in the summer. HW, Quizzes, and tests are on Connect & you get multiple tries. Final exam isn't cumulative and open book and proctored, and you have one easy youtube project. This class is straight forward and easy, just make sure to read his directions clearly. He's awesome and gave me a very generous bump to an A. Take him online.
There are 19 quizzes and 3 exams. All quizzes and test are on the McGraw website (an extra $125 + tax). There are 20 questions and only 20 minutes to take each quiz. A project at the end of the course (only thing teacher grades) everything else depends on your quizzes and test. Professor will tell you to google questions or to read the syllabus.
Honestly, if you can't make all the classes, don't bother. There is no textbook, so all you have to work with is the lectures. Very few grades.
Good professor, not much work at the beginning of the semester. Entire class group project towards the middle-end of semester looks hard but it's not too bad. Watch the videos posted and you should be fine. I did not use the book at all!
I took him for summer and other than having unstable schedule. His quizzes are ridiculous 20 questions and you get 20 mins. In the beginning he gave 3 trys and then after two chapters its 2 trys. His tests are 100 questions. No study guide. And the questions are not from the material. You have 3 days to complete 3 chap. And a project to do.
I dont mind reading, but when you give a quiz and give the correct answer after I get it wrong then when I take the quiz again and the same question is on there and the answer is different then I know I am being set up for failure. This teacher is cold and doesnt care. I know most people work and he has stuff due in the most ridiculous time frame
At the beginning of the semester the professor sends out a 9 page syllabus with errors in it. Online class, so never hear from him again. The class is all run through Connect, the text book's publisher. The questions to quizes/ tests are poorly worded and contradict the text book. Very frustrating and counterproductive experience. Avoid
The online class is just your text and connect. The questions on the quiz/tests don't make sense. Why do they even say this class has a professor involved. It just seems we shouldn't have to pay if the professor doesn't do anything.
Worst professor I've ever had at UHD. If you can, just avoid taking him. Ridiculous time frame for assignments and tests, no communication whatsoever, no info on assignments, and you never hear from him.
Winter 3 week term. 1 chap. quiz due daily, LearnSmart for extra credit. Short chapters/easy read. Quiz taken twice, highest score wins. If you read- the quizzes & tests are straightfoward - Open notes/book. 3 tests incl the final. 1 powerpoint project due. Prof is easy to reach by text &email and responds quickly. Got a B - didnt finish project
Regarding other reviews -online is just the ebook , connect & learnsmart. However the chapters are REALLY easy reads, the quizzes are open note/open book & the questions are DIRECTLY from the book. Its questionable if you fail. The syllabus is long but very clear on project info & timeframes. Take an in-person class if you need to have lectures
It is not that Dr. Dillard doesn't know his subject, it's that he is a terrible professor. You will learn nothing about marketing and on top of that he has a subjective grading system. Which could work if he taught the subject well. The tests are difficult because he doesn't explain what he wants but somehow expects you to know.
You'll enjoy this class (MBA UHd 6208). Dr. Dillard's passion for the subject matter is obvious. He uses a mix of videos and lecture that make his classroom time come alive. Be prepared for lots of work and to be called on in class. He sets high standards but, overall, is fair and reasonable. Follow lectures, slides and sim work and you'll do fine.
Horrible, Horrible simply horrible course. I am an A student. Professor does not teach marketing and talks more about his previous marketing jobs he had in the past.
He announces to the class on the first day getting an A in this class will be very hard. He is correct since he does not teach and all he talks about is how great he is. Which by the way is not what he tests you over. If I could give him a negative score I would.
1 Assignment, 2 test, 1 final, 1 group project and peer evaluation. HE WILL STRESS YOU OUT. HE is the only one who provides this class.. so you have to take him. Group project... participate!! YOU HAVE TO for your grade its worth ALOT. SPSS program is needed.. its your final. DON'T CHEAT... he will know, just learn the program and group project.
If there is a word to describe him: lazy. A book is mandatory but you won't use it. Learning from course will be on your own. His best quality is he curves and is lenient. Midterm, final, case reviews, project reports, and one big project. Project biggest portion of your grade. Hopefully, you'll have reliable teammates. Grading is very subjective!
Everything is through connect and learnsmart. Read chapters, finish learnsmart and take quiz. 3 tests plus the final. There were no videos or powerpoints so all of your learning is on your own from the book. Quizzes and tests are easy so easy grade but you will not learn unless you teach yourself.
THIS IS THE WORST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN IN MY LIFE!!! The book assigned only covers 20% of your grades in the class. You are expected to learn a system called SPSS, however he provides no resources for it. Make sure you buy a book or find some resource that teaches you about SPSS or you will fail this class.
This is the worst class I have ever taken or encountered when I tell you this man is no help please believe me. He is honestly horrible. Imagine self-teaching something outdated such as SPSS it is literally over 50% of your grade no preparation for the assignment just horrible professor. I wish I knew ahead of time to take it elsewhere. DONT TAKE!
ask your advisor to take this class elsewhere. it is not worth the pain. he is horrible. he only makes sure the person with the highest grade makes an A. makes the assignment seems easy but makes the final 20x harder. he refuses to help doesn't sympathize with students that tried their best. I took this class with people who failed his class 2-3x.
This guy sucks. He doesn't even try to explain the stratsim marketing project, which is very complicated. His syllabus also sucks. He's a tough grader but doesn't give feedback. He calls on people which also sucks. He sucks, don't take him.
Do not take Dr Dillard for MBA level Marketing. I learned more in undergrad. He relies too heavily on a group project simulation - which he provides little guidance. He provides NO feedback on written papers. His midterm and final are garbage. You need to know how to analyze articles - however, do not expect feedback.
Not a good teacher who applies unfair, inconsistent grading. His final was short and relied on knowledge that was not taught in the class and not part of any of the materials. The Simulation accounted for the majority of the grade. It was complex and not properly calibrated for a summer session. New miserable experience, ahoy!
Everything on connect, 19 quizzes (Chapters 1-2 have 3 attempts, the rest have 2 attempts) , 3 exams. Everything is literally online, but if you want to learn just dont take this Professor. I suggest you earn your A by putting in the effort with another professor, I dont recommend taking Professor Dillard for MKT. Suck a horrible experience.
Everything is through Connect and we have queries w/ 2attempts and keep highest grade, but thats a lie. He didnt take our highest grades when calculating our final grade. Also, lacks communication w/students, isnt a good professor. Aside from that, if you want to pass, you can do it! Make sure you read book or PowerPoint, and use quizlets! EZCRD
The entire class is on Connect besides the final project regarding a product of our choice. Professor is very strict with work being turned in on time. Deducted a hundred points for being forty minutes late, giving me a 44. Luckily I did well on the other components of the course
Everythings online. Youre on your own once the course starts because the prof doesnt communicate. Course is pretty easy since everything is literally ONLINE. Theres a project which many ppl complain about, but its super EZ if you follow the instructions. I got a B for the project, you literally cant fail the project if you follow directions.
Professor Dillard is a nice and caring professor, however the methodology he uses to teach his students is not for everyone. There were 3 tests including the final, open notes and open book. However, treat it as a closed notes and book since the amount of time given is too short. He curves his tests including final to help out students.
I have never left a bad review for a professor so please take this seriously. Do not take this professor for an MBA-level course. All assignments other than a simulation are written, and he is not clear on how it is graded. He does not follow the textbook, rambles confusingly during lectures, and belittles people for asking "dumb" questions.
I took this course and it was horrible. There was no options for tutoring and when I asked the proffessor for help , he just reffered you back to his videos. I seeked out for help from other sources. The proffesor doesn't care really about your questions, he would just say things like , ok well moving on now. Don't waste your time like I did.
just a difficult professor, uses SPSS which is outdated. worse part is he's the only professor who does MKT 4306, so its hard to avoid his class. Just learn how to do the SPSS ahead of time if your taking his class and good luck !
Unfortunately, you can't avoid taking this professor if he's the only one teaching a required course. I almost feel bad for giving him a bad review. He's a great guy, it's just an extremely difficult class. His style of teaching makes the class even harder. Start on the assignments asap; DO NOT procrastinate, you will regret it! GOOD LUCK.
I took this class during the summer and it was the toughest class I have ever taken. I watched videos on YT to get familiar with SPSS (a software that we have to use) but somehow I could not understand his assignments at all. He has videos explaining how to use it but they're old and the software looks different compared to the latest version.
I took this class during the summer, and it is definitely not a class you can take lightly. Professor is accessible most of the time and even gave us his cell phone to contact. You have to listen to the lectures, watch his on demand videos, and ask lots of questions in order to do well. Spend time practicing in SPSS!
His class is always the first one to get booked and have to be on the waiting list due to so many students retaking the class. Get ready to teach yourself to learn SPSS. His teaching ways are not good
I took Marketing 3301 for a winter mini and it was very intense. Be prepared to READ!!! I loved using the SmartBook assignments, although not required, because I retained the material better. Professor Dillard has very clear grading instructions and if you follow his guidelines, I think you will do just fine.
Nice person, but very harsh grader. If you do not follow his instruction to the dot, you will be penalized for it. Show all your work on your SPSS Assignment, Project, and Final Exam. Only professor teaches this class, so it is hard to avoid. Make sure to learn the SPSS software and don't procrastinate.
Please avoid this professor if you can. He doesn't care at all and he is incredibly rude. He told us what to study for the exam and gave a completely different exam from what he said we should study. He is purposely confusing and assignment heavy. AVOID HIM IF YOU CAN!
We only had 2 test, 1 group project, 1 self assessment and the final. However all of them prepare you for the final. The class was a bit challenging but the professor was very good on providing slides to things you needed help with.
don't procrastinate for MKT research because his class is known to be the hardest for marketing majors. With that being said I came prepared when his class started, and whenever I got confused I texted him and we would get on a call so he could explain everything. He is very accessible outside of class and wants you to succeed so reach out to him
It's a lot of work but just follow direction.
My experience was that he was kind and understanding. He answered questions quickly and gave chances for extra credit. The workload is real though: 3 tests, each test covered 6-7 chapters with mini-quizzes along the way, and a pp project. Study and you'll pass. However, I would NOT take it with a full-time job/ another class.
I took MKT 3301 in the summer (9W). There are 3 exams - 2 tests and a final in connect. There is a pp project video at the end. Quizzes + exams are on connect and exams are each 100 questions MC (test heavy). He does give 19 SB assignments worth 1 pt each to add to an assignment which is helpful. Easy to contact. Very few grades tho, so study.
Required to play a game as part of our grade, and it accounted for a significant portion. Unfair and weird. Final Exam - even if an answer was technically correct, if it wasn't phrased exactly the way the professor wanted, points were deducted. This rigid approach made the exams feel more like a guessing game than a fair assessment of knowledge.
I think he gets a bad rep. It wasnt as bad as studens were saying. Just do the work, follow instructions, ask questions.
I took the 5-week winter mini. I'm not sure why his rating is low. There's a lot of reading. one minute/question on tests and quizzes, but they're not on lockdown browser. If you read the chapters and take notes, there is no reason not to get an A. The group project was an individual project. He gives you his cell if you need to reach him.
Knows the subject but can't teach it. No good feedback and wouldn't answer questions. Be ready for math.
He doesn't explain things clearly, and his instructions are confusing. The class is overly difficult, with weekly assignments and homework due at odd times—even during spring break. He calls on students by name, which can be embarrassing if you're not prepared. Half the class dropped in the first two weeks. Just a heads up I'd avoid him.
The professor has a hard time explaining the material clearly, and his instructions can be confusing. The course is tough, with weekly assignments and strict deadlines, including during spring break. He often calls on students directly in class, which can be uncomfortable if you're not ready. Many students dropped within the first two weeks.
He randomly calls on students in class, which can be stressful. A lot of people dropped the class early on. I'd recommend thinking twice before signing up.This professor doesn't communicate the material well, and his instructions are hard to follow.
I'm begging you, don't take this class
First day of class he introduced himself and said, "About 10% of students fail this class." Thats all imma say. He's the only prof for this course soooo... good luck.
I'm not sure why he has such a low rating. His class can be difficult if you don't study. If you read the chapter, you will be fine. Quizzes are not on lockdown, but you get 1 min/question, and 5 chances to take each quiz. You have to create a PowerPoint presentation on a new product at the end of the class, but it wasn't hard.
