you will never be bored in his class.

Although he probably lost interest in teaching about 20 years ago, he is one of the most entertaining lecturers that I've had. But teaching is 2nd fiddle to his other job as President of the BC Civil Liberties Assoc. (answers his phone in class).

Puts in a big effort every time but makes it seem easy. My favourite class by far.

Best in the college

starting off really disliking him because the course was so disorganized (which stresses working students out big time) but ended up thinking he was hilarious and had very unusual methods. the class has hardly any work involved 4 assts only

Probably one of the most intelligent teachers you'll ever meet.. and i've taken courses from every school! Humourous guy.. abit **** but that's totally cool!

The easiest class ever...a couple quizzes and thats it...do the reading, you're fine..loves to swear in class - its hilarious! talks to you like an adult, not a little kid...suck it up all you prudes who think he's 'rude'..

Likes to shock and awe, specializes in scaring away students who don't want to talk about incest or other taboo topics. Teaches you a ton w/o you even realizing it, easy workload. Funny as a deformed baby, and has a seemingly-endless amount of stories.

An easy class with only 3 small quizes that are out of ten with 4 or 5 bonus questions, a midterm, and a term paper. If anyone is easily offended then this is not the class to take because, on the ocassion, he is rude and not "politically correct.&qu

He has no political correctness at all. THIS IS GOOD! I'm tired of "womyn", and using "academic" class language. I'm an 'A' student, and it was nice to get an 'A' without having to fake being modest or polite! Great prof.

Hilarious! His stories and examples aren't forgotten easily.Some may disagree with his style, but argue anything up with him, he'll be more than open to good reasoning. But be prepared to get embarrassed if you can't back yourself up.

Great guy, kind, funny intelegent. His courses and discussions are thought provoking. He can be hard to get a good grade with, but he is always open to debate on grades. Very worth while.

hilarious. i had a blast. do not try to brown nose this guy nerds - he will burn you consistently.. and i have to admit it was awesome. Easy tests which dont really mean anything, he only really cares about the paper.

John Dixon is an extremely funny interesting lecturer who will challenge you. Be prepared.

I signed up to learn about ideologies, as specified in the calendar. That was the only topic we didn’t discuss! Nevertheless, an interesting class and a unique professor.

Funny. Crazy. What more can you want in an ethics teacher? He's an ethical guy, smart as all hell, used to be the advisor to the Justice Minister. Class is all debating=fun! quizzes are easy and stupid..just go and make an effort and you will be rewarded. you need to use your brain for this class!!

He's the smartest prof at Cap by far. He will burn the pants off of you but you feel a teeny bit smarter each time you leave his class but at the same time he reminds you that you don't know****. Great great learning experience for me. Thanks!

Very nice guy, Has the ability to see things from almost every perspective. And hes very smart,but the classes are very easy as well. Really enjoyable.

The only important thing about doing well in his course is that you go to each class! Pay attention and participate in class discussions, and you'll do fine. Quizzes are really easy if you've read the material.

John is the best prof i have had so far. He is interesting, funny and wicked smart. The workload is easy. Quizes are easy too, he just quizes you to see if you read the material, he calles the micky mouse quizes and thats what they are.

A wonderful persona. the class is tricky if you are looking for learning outcomes, it makes you a better listener, arguer, speaker and thinker. Dr. Dixon is an intelligent, arrogant, humourus man and if you dont mind having no structure and a jackoff for a teacher this is your class. I thought it was awesome!!

Hard marker - but fair i think

Awesome Prof! Not for the weak hearted or cattle that need continuous guidance! He talks %95 of the time and doesn't give any notes. You need to do your reading quickly so your up to date with what he's trying to convey to you. Not a dull moment in his classes, if your easily offended...stay far away!

Best teacher ever! I love debates and he keeps you on the edge of your toes. He will argue you into a corner even if he agrees with what you are saying. He really teaches you how to think well.

Interesting class. He ‘engages’ you to speak up. So if you cannot think on the spot like me, then a good class to take for practice. Three quizzes, a midterm, and a term paper, that’s it. Great class if you are literate, well spoken, and can form an argument. He is president of Civil Liberties and has published numerous articles. Great professor.

I love this guy, man. Took Ethics, and every time I was in class there was some sort of random (but strangely relevant) discussion that was pretty funny to listen to. Loves to play devil's advocate. Give him a shot, you won't regret it.

----FUNNY---He is THE best teacher at cap,so cool and laid back. dont try to lie to him, hes gonna catch you, very open minded,bad with names, his topics are the most interesting ones;sometimes that interesting that a skipper like me would rather go to all his classes instead of chilling outside with friends.hes just simply amazing AND AGAIN FUNNY.

Best professor at the school. There is really no contest. He's not only brilliant, but he's also funny, makes fun of his students, and he is genuinely enlightening.

If you can't get into Matthew Arnold's class, take Dixon's.

I don't understand his low rating. He's the most accomplished, brilliant, witty professor at the school.

When Mr. Dixon was my prof, I was a silly 20 year old kid. I didn't understand Philosophy or him. As I matured, his lessons and Philosophy became more relevant. For this I thank him.

I can't remember class names I took with John, but in total I took 7 with him. 15 yrs and 2 master's degrees later, I can say he's the best teacher I've had. His classes were far from structured and he provided no "practical" skills (like my finance classes) but he shaped the way I think more than anyone. Don't miss a chance to hear the man speak.

Great teacher! so much valuable experience to share. learn from how he gets people to do things, its a great trait.
