Very intelligent and funny guy! But he is a very unfair marker! Uses a weighted system, i think. He's very unorganized and unclear. The papers he makes you read are for 3rd year philophy students?: difficult to understand and to keep eyes opened.

this guy is so disorganized and off topic you don't even know if you're in the right class. Waste of time. Also, he seems to mark papers a bit unfairly. Agree with him, get an A, think for yourself, you better be writing a pulitzer!

Although he probably lost interest in teaching about 20 years ago, he is one of the most entertaining lecturers that I've had. But teaching is 2nd fiddle to his other job as President of the BC Civil Liberties Assoc. (answers his phone in class).

Waste of time being in this class. Doesn't follow any sort of schedule, just wings it every class. Even answers his phone mid-sentence. Rudest prof I've ever met. He does show how far a degree in a useless field can take someone, though.

Likes to shock and awe, specializes in scaring away students who don't want to talk about incest or other taboo topics. Teaches you a ton w/o you even realizing it, easy workload. Funny as a deformed baby, and has a seemingly-endless amount of stories.

A brilliant man, but is clearly tired of teaching. Answers his cell phone in class. Often is not prepared. If he applied even half his brilliance to the course, it would be a must-take course. I wish I had taken his course back when he loved teaching.

He has no political correctness at all. THIS IS GOOD! I'm tired of "womyn", and using "academic" class language. I'm an 'A' student, and it was nice to get an 'A' without having to fake being modest or polite! Great prof.

Hilarious! His stories and examples aren't forgotten easily.Some may disagree with his style, but argue anything up with him, he'll be more than open to good reasoning. But be prepared to get embarrassed if you can't back yourself up.

Covers up his pompous attitude with jokes. Rather unhelpful sod. If you come up with the correct answer too quickly he'll ignore you so that the class can continue for the entire 2 hours in finding the sollution as you sit there completely pissed & bored

Funny. Crazy. What more can you want in an ethics teacher? He's an ethical guy, smart as all hell, used to be the advisor to the Justice Minister. Class is all debating=fun! quizzes are easy and stupid..just go and make an effort and you will be rewarded. you need to use your brain for this class!!

He's the smartest prof at Cap by far. He will burn the pants off of you but you feel a teeny bit smarter each time you leave his class but at the same time he reminds you that you don't know****. Great great learning experience for me. Thanks!

Makes the class lively and interesting, however, he also has the most pointless quizzes in the entire world. Instead of having "big picutre" concepts, he quizzes you on minor, insignificant details that are meaningless.

The only important thing about doing well in his course is that you go to each class! Pay attention and participate in class discussions, and you'll do fine. Quizzes are really easy if you've read the material.

A wonderful persona. the class is tricky if you are looking for learning outcomes, it makes you a better listener, arguer, speaker and thinker. Dr. Dixon is an intelligent, arrogant, humourus man and if you dont mind having no structure and a jackoff for a teacher this is your class. I thought it was awesome!!

This class was hilarious! I've never laughed so much during lectures. John will make fun of his students, and maybe even offend people, which is what makes his classes so entertaining. His mickey mouse quizes I find to be obscure questions that you wouldn't expect to be asked, a lot of bad marks on those. There's no final, but a essay style midterm

Awesome Prof! Not for the weak hearted or cattle that need continuous guidance! He talks %95 of the time and doesn't give any notes. You need to do your reading quickly so your up to date with what he's trying to convey to you. Not a dull moment in his classes, if your easily offended...stay far away!

this guy deals with controvercial issues. and straight forward with comments. non of those sugar coated politically correct terms. his quizes are TERRIBLY hard, but he LETS you CHEAT! isnt that good enough? so just do well for the midterm essay! :) personally, a great guy

Interesting class. He ‘engages’ you to speak up. So if you cannot think on the spot like me, then a good class to take for practice. Three quizzes, a midterm, and a term paper, that’s it. Great class if you are literate, well spoken, and can form an argument. He is president of Civil Liberties and has published numerous articles. Great professor.

I love this guy, man. Took Ethics, and every time I was in class there was some sort of random (but strangely relevant) discussion that was pretty funny to listen to. Loves to play devil's advocate. Give him a shot, you won't regret it.

Either you love him or you hate him. For students who need vulgarity coupled with vivid, vile descriptions in order to learn.. he's your guy. He's smart; it's too bad he's biased - VERY liberal (FAR left). Challenging to sit through his classes, especially with all the loons who say the same thing a different way over and over.

When Mr. Dixon was my prof, I was a silly 20 year old kid. I didn't understand Philosophy or him. As I matured, his lessons and Philosophy became more relevant. For this I thank him.

I can't remember class names I took with John, but in total I took 7 with him. 15 yrs and 2 master's degrees later, I can say he's the best teacher I've had. His classes were far from structured and he provided no "practical" skills (like my finance classes) but he shaped the way I think more than anyone. Don't miss a chance to hear the man speak.
