Boring! Boring! Whatever he teaches to the class pretty much has nothing to do with the course or will be on the test. He spends like half of every class bragging about his personal life. He loves to tell that he lives in the Woodlands.
He loves himself, alot. enjoys indoctrinating students with garbage.
Dr. Domino is a kind of teacher that makes you work and think. If you are planning to go to law school then Pol 433 w/ him will help you. He is funny and interesting. However, this class requires a lot time from student's daily schedule for briefings
Very good prof, though you do have to work in the class
This guy will try and make you look bad for asking questions/ and if you ever walk into class late. His grading methods are questionable- he loves to talk about himself and on the topic of sex. Worst teacher I've ever had at Sam Houston
Had to read books that had nothing to do with the topic of the class, had to hear about himself, his family, and his kids in the Woodlands constantly. Never really talked about the class subject much. Terrible class.
Very arrogant and acts like he is better than everyone else who was, who is, and who will be.
Dr. Domino is one of the toughest political science profs, but he is also probably the best their is. If you go to class, listen to his lectures and read the book you should be able to do fine.
He's not that bad. He gies a study guide, you just have to really study for his tests. He'll help you if you ask.
Despite what other people say, Domino was one of my Favorite teachers yet! He has a great outgoing personality that made me crack up every single day. must have a sense of humor i guess to tolerate him. The tests were a piece of cake. just take notes and read! not that difficult.
A great professor when he actually sticks to the subject matter, however, he rarely does. Typically on a normal given day you can expect him to spend about 15 min. max discussing the topic at hand and the rest of the time trying to shove his own personal views down your throat.
he's great and knows what he's teaching, but he's monotone so its hard to stay interested
very boring an dull looks an talks the the guy on the clear eyes commercial he knows the material just cant teach it very well
I thought he was great! Just take amazing notes...write everything down and study them before the test. I'm horrible at POL SCI and I made a B in his class.
i genuinely enjoyed his class. his tests were a little nuts, but if you study what he gives you it will be cake. i found his lectures interesting, and he threw in cheesy jokes every now and again, which was nice.
I took this course in the summer. Dr. Domino is easiest to get along with if you repeat his views in the papers that you write. Use his line of thinking to make critical observations of the writers or the text that is being reviewed. Do not look for time outside of class and do not be late. Keep your head low, study hard, and think critically.
he expects scholar research papers..very specific on what he wants..not much outside help. Exams are very detailed. DONT BE LATE or he will put you on the spot.
Gret guy, just go to class, take notes and take in the knowledge. Great study guides.
great teacher, kept u interested. i thought personally its was better to show up and take notes than study. if u study from your notes and listen in class you should be ok. i think hes one of my favorite teachers.
I was halfway about this course. Dr. Domino is a pretty easy going guy. You can talk to him about anything and he loves to talk about current events to keep things interesting. Make sure you go over review terms and either talk to him about the topics or find a study group.
Excellent professor! Very clear in his lectures. Tests are a breeze if you take notes. His lectures cover the test material exactly.
I hated this class! He talks more about current events then the actual class (and never mananged to relate the two)! The book was no help becuase the test came straight from the lecutres that he never gave you! I actually scored higher on the test when I didn't go to class and went out of my to study everything on my own!
nice funny guy. tells good stories sometimes, but u learn nothing from him, so then the tests are hard.
Do NOT take this Prof! He is VERY unclear on everything he talks about, and doesnt mention half of the things that are on his tests. When you ask him a question he will give you smart a$$ answer. He also messed up many test grades in my class!
My friends told me not to take this prof. I say take him and get an A. If you go to class and pay attention you can do really well in this class. He's really funny and interesting. Do the take home part of the test thoroughly and you'll do great on the in class part. I didn't by the book and I didn't need it.
Avoid. Lectures have very little to do with what will appear on the test. Tests are relatively easy; however, none of the questions come from the lecture, just the book. Funny, guy. Bad class
Over all he is a pretty good prof. He keeps his lectures pretty funny, so you don't get too bored. He gives out lots of hand outs. Study those as well as the study guides!!! If you do that you will for sure pass! Attendance isnt mandatory, but you'll probably make a better grade b/c some things in lecture are on the test.
Great prof. he gets off topic a bit but the handouts and study guides given out are extremly helpful along with the take home text coming straight out of the book, great class very enjoyable
I think he is great. Very funny. I guess he has gotten better, because he stays on topic and will answer any questions. He is very approachable and will provide a lot of study materials. Class is interesting.
Its very hard to stay focused during lectures. His voice is very smooth and calm so its relaxing. Not to mention there is no such thing as a less interesting course. He gets off topic a lot in class, and the tests are over a massive amount of information. He's a funny guy and I wouldn't advise against him but I've learned nothing from him in class.
If you are in any way conservative, do not take him. He made not only myself but every conservative that I talked to feel personally attacked. He is without a doubt the WORST professor I've ever taken. His lectures have absolutly nothing to do with the test. I actually did much better on the test, when I would ignore him, then when i listened.
Not a good prof. Stay away at all costs, only teaches to one side of class and tests are not from notes nor the book.
I would not take him if i was you!!!!
Do not take this class with this professor!
Excellent professor. The negative comments about him must be from people who either didn't like POL to begin with or were extreme slackers. Class is easy, reading is light. Come to class, pay attention, get an A. And for those complaining about a 74 question test, quit college now. Wait till you get an all essay test that requires 6 or 7 pages.
Hard class but verry helpfull. If you show up and listen do all the briefs you can do dicent in his class. leared alot in this class
I enjoyed the class. Not typically into the politics stuff, but I learned a lot. I think I liked it mostly because he reminded me of a cousin, but he was nice and was a good teacher.
I really enjoyed his class, studied the cases and did relatively well on the tests, papers are easy and there are only two, but he likes for you to use the book he wrote, so read it! he's a nice funny guy but if you don't like to talk, sit in the back. good professor!
He makes everything clear and understandable. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Study guide for each test. Test are over the study guide. Attendance isn't mandatory but you need to go to fill out the study guide and clear things up. He is very funny and i would recommend him to anyone
I absolutely, LOVED this professor. He's very interesting, funny, and he helped me discover a lot about myself politically. He's an easy teacher, the study guides are over everything that is on the test. If my major allowed I would take another one of classes. I probably will. Very enjoyable.
This class was prossibly the most boring class in the world. You don't have to show up for class to get an A on the test. Everything is on blackboard. Gives you a reason to skip class on Fridays. Overall I learned absolutely nothing.
Hard, but very fair, patient, unorthodox and canny. We need more like him, he is a stickler for being on time, prepared and studying as though you mean it. I'm taking him again!
He was funny and i enjoyed his class a lot. He has study guides and helps you fill them out before each test. Just make sure you go and take notes or read the book if you dont go to class.
Really Good Prof. Took him for Judical Systems and Constitutional Law; really enjoyed his lectures and the class participation he encourages. He'll work with you if you're willing to work. Also advises for Pre-Law and oversees the SHSU Legal Studies Minor. Very knowledgeable about the American Judical System and Case Law. Pretty funny too.
Polisci 2301 I do not like it, he makes up his own test question in detail that its annoying. Not even going to class will help you. He is really funny but makes no sense.
I took his class because I thought it would be a breeze, but it was actually kind of difficult. He's a very smart man and he puts everything up online, but he goes off onto all sorts of different tangents in class that makes it hard to follow where he is. I wouldn't want to take another class with him only because I don't like the way he teaches.
Dr.Domino was very hard to follow in his lectures he likes to talk more about his knowledge of common law. he gets the test questions from the study guides (so do them)and the test were online and he gives you a three day window to complete the exam. attendance is not mandatory. I did not go to class did the study guides and made a B in the class
This class is not a breeze but it is easy to pass if you pay attention to all the documents that Dr. Domino puts online. He is very helpful when you ask questions but is kind of all over the place in class. If you do the study guides in detail, you will get a good grade in the class. Always ask questions, he will help!
Definitely knows his stuff, pushes you to think beyond what you're used to! Very helpful. Do the briefs, study the cases, attend every class & you'll be fine!
i do not recommend this teacher, he does not help that much and his lectures are confusing, and make you understand the topic less. You could have the review memorized by heart and still bomb his tests.
Don't memorize the material, LEARN it. If you can do that, you'll pass with an A. Absolutely recommend this professor, had him 2 semesters, wish there was more teachers like him. Definitely knows his stuff! STUDY STUDY STUDY. Thorough review days, do NOT miss a day or you're not going to know the material for the exam!!!
Dont memorize the material, learn it. Dr. Domino is very helpful and gives thorough review days. Don't miss class or you'll completely miss what the case was about. Great teacher, pushes you to think!
Did not like this class at all! It was SO BORING! Would not recommend him if you are just doing this class for the credits. He doesnt required attendance. I wouldnt bother going to class bc the lectures dont really have any thing to do with tests. Test were HARD. I am normally an all A's student but I ended up with a C in this class unfortunately.
TERRIBLE TEACHER!! His tests were hard, and his lectures didnt help at all! do not take this class unless your a POLS. Major!
Great professor for those interested in going to law school!
As close as you will get to a law class, without going to law school.
Wish there were more professors like him, definitely recommend for future law students! Very knowledgeable! As long as you go to class, do your case briefs, take notes in them, you should do fine on exams.
in the class i took his lectures were boring and he never really talked about what we were supposed to be learning. his tests were completely different than what we talked about and it was just super tough. obviously i would never take him again
class drags, not clear on grading, a lot of blackboard activities, all tests are essay tests, easiest part of this class were the 4 papers. never want to take again. he's kind of funny...
Dr. Domino's political science class was extremely difficult, a frequent trend is that he doesn't even test on the material that is supposedly covered in the textbook and his lectures. I've never been in a 200 level class that has been so difficult. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS is my warning to some of you.
Great professor.
If you're serious about law school then take him. He's super smart and knows his stuff. He's always willing to help. His exams are tough. But he has other things that average the grade. I would take him again!
very straight forward course, gives you a chapter quiz on Friday test every two weeks using the lockdown browser. All of the answers are easily looked up online however sometimes aren't right.
Professor Domino is a well respected professor and an incredible professor. There is a brief due each day for class, but you'll get used to it. Test are the briefs, basically. I think this is a great course, even if you're not a Legal Studies minor. Great professor who knows his stuff. Might be a bit challenging at the beginning, but it's worth it.
Domino is pretty cool professor. Class is somewhat difficult but beneficial. Great for people wanting to become lawyers. His lectures are pretty boring, but you get used to it. Would take him again. Pretty respected in the political and law world, so a letter of recommendation from will take you pretty far.
He is a great professor and makes his lectures interesting. The study guides he provides really help for exam.
Takes test material mostly from online quizzes that you can also find online. You have two quizzes to help prepare for test. You can just read powerpoints. His class isn't difficult. I personally did not read the book and got a B but others said they had an easy A because they read.
the first couple test were tricky/ difficult Quizzes are done online the night before the test He gives a study guide before the test that actually helps. Yes, the material is boring but if u study U got a easy A
One of my easiest classes. Test are based off of study guide, powerpoints and quizzes. Attendance is not mandatory to necessarily pass but it is a small percentage of your grade. Lectures are very boring but he made me somewhat interested in politics.
His main focus is on constitutional law and judicial politics, though he also teaches American and Texas Government. Considering that I am a Criminal Justice major, his credibility in constitutional law has really helped me obtain a larger grasp on the legal aspects of the field. He's a nice guy, too, and his courses are relatively easy to pass.
had Him for Constitutional Law in the early 90's. Difficult but required class. Gained a real respect for constitutional law.
The class is easy so I'd take it again. But it seems like he teaches based off of his political views, rather than actual facts. Quizzes and tests are easy, but again, it seems like he teaches only what he believes.
Domino is one of the most caring and respected professors at Sam. He truly cares for his students & recognizes & appreciates hard work. I took Domino for three pol sci classes and loved him and the classes way too much. I have graduated but he still emails me and asks how I am and is one of my professional references. TAKE HIM. YOU WONT REGRET IT.
He is unclear about attendance and when I emailed to ask him a question he was rude and still unclear. He gives 4 tests and few quizzes with no chance for extra credit. Government was already a subject I struggled with and he was not very helpful. If you have the chance to take it with another professor or online do it.
Mr. Domino himself is a great professor. He is funny, nice, and willing to help students in any way he can to help them pass. I had trouble with the assignments, though. The quizzes were tricky even with reading and the tests were even harder. The study guide he gives is useful in some occasions, others useless. The tests and quizzes use lockdown.
Professor Domino was a great professor. In lectures, he included personal stories to make it more interesting. Although, he does not cover everything that is on tests. Read textbook. He offers a study guide that is helpful though. Lockdown browser required for quizzes and tests.
Not a great prof. The best I ever did on a test is when i skipped all the classes for that unit. Rambles a lot. Online open note quizzes for each chapter. 4 tests and a final on respondus lockdown. Slightly offensive if you actually pay attention.
this is the most inconsistent professor I've ever had. each week you have to submit several legal briefs which are taken for grades that factor into a test grade at end of semester. he will say briefs are good/bad and test is essay form. he will say things are good in class but will fail you on test. depends on his "mood" for the day. DO NOT TAKE!
RUDE. If possible DO NOT take him. His lectures rarely makes sense, he's disorganized and constantly gets off topic. When you email him with concerns and questions he treats you like you're stupid and below him. Class is reading heavy and overloaded with assignments, wouldn't be bad if his attitude wasn't so bad.
I took him online and was so unimpressed. He is extremely unorganized, never responds to emails, and will last minute change due dates for quizzes/tests. He put 0 effort into this class, the whole course is just a ton of chapter quizzes, tests, and one essay. To do well in this class you have to study the textbook chapters and powerpoints.
Dr. Domino was a fantastic professor this semester when I took him for POLS 2306. Read each chapter and listen to each lecture and the nine unit quizzes will be a breeze. The 5 tests will also be very easy if you complete the optional study guide. Great prof, easy to understand and a very straightforward grader and generous with essay grades. A+!
Before I did this class it sounded like something well beyond my abilities, only something that geniuses could get an A in. Well, I was wrong. The way that Dr. Domino teaches this class and provides feedback allows for the student to build skills necessary for understanding Constitutional law. The class material is dense and it is homework heavy.
Honestly, I at first hated his class because I thought it was hard. But the first unit he allows you to turn in the briefs until you get full credit. The case briefs are hard at first and he will tell you. But with more practice you will get there. He can come off as rude, but he really is not. I loved this class.
I LOVE THIS CLASS! He is such an amazing professor and makes the course fun! The briefs are difficult at first, but he will let you resubmit the first set of briefcases and will give you guidance on how to improve. The exams are written, but he will let you email him a preview of your written practice examples before you take the exam.
So i took Con Law 1 (POLS 4334) with him. Throughtout the semester, you must complete 25 case briefs. You must be present in class in order to turn in case brief. Participation does matter in class. He has written tests but is a very funny guy in class. Will take him for Con Law 2.
I don't dislike Dr.Domino, I just cannot for the life of me keep up with the reading in this class along with all my other classes. The tests also hardly make sense, cause I did everything to the letter and still make a 75. He does give good feedback on case briefs though
Although his classes are tough because there is a lot of work to do and attendance is mandatory in order to turn the work in, I learned a lot in his class. He's a great professor and works with you to do great in his class. As long as you do the work and study hard for his tests, you will pass. I would take his classes again.
Tough grader
The amount of work you have to do would not be the worst if there was a clear structure in scheduling the case studies and he gave you more than an hour and a half on exams to write 4 essays at 300+ words each on subjects that may or may not fully be in the exam prep guide. His class has nothing of worth to actually learn but it is a required class
The professor was so awful I changed my entire minor.
Professor Domino was a pretty great, as long as you show up to class and put in the work his class is pretty easy. In the beginning it was difficult adapting to his briefs and how he wants them done but once you do the class becomes easy. He does assign briefs for every class and as for test as long as you complete the briefs you should be fine.
Professor Domino was awesome his classes were based on the book but he post his lectures online. You must be there the days your reading assignments are due but the rest you can do the work at home. There are weekly essays on assigned readings or websites but they are easy and you can redo it if you don't like your grade. Loved him so much!!
This professor is terrible. He has no sympathy for his students. If you are someone who struggles with a disability this is the worst professor to take. He does not give you any accommodations. He does not post notes online so you make sure you attend class. Also only takes attendance by you turning in work. I will never take a class with him again
Professor Domino's class has a lot of work, but if you stay engaged and use helpful study tools like unstuck study, it's manageable. Attendance is key, and be prepared for tough grading, but the knowledge gained is valuable.
I had Dr. Domino for a graduate course, and he was an exceptional instructor with deep knowledge of the subject matter. His class is challenging, but he clearly sets expectations from day one and communicates them extremely well. If you truly want to learn and walk away with meaningful knowledge, I highly recommend taking his course.
