good professor is super nice and interesting discussions in class, one of my favorite professors he has so much knowledge. 1 hw a week through cengage (helps you teach yourself) if you learn the material you will get a good grade
Dr. Dorrell is not your stereotypical college professor. Lectures are very engaging and cover not only the course content but also relevant topics like cryptocurrency. Dr. Dorrell does a great job of relating the course content to modern events taking place. There is weekly homework but it is pretty easy. I would highly recommend Dr. Dorrell.
I thought i was not gonna be interest in economics but he really opened my eyes and its super interesting. The lectures and examples he uses and brings to the class are the really interesting and makes u want to understand more. Just read the weekly chapter, take notes, and follow news on economics and u will be a stud
Overall, a great professor. Dr. Dorrell can seem slightly intimidating at first but he means no harm. I find him to be extremely realistic which I like. He uses real-life examples/scenarios and youtube videos to help explain the economics concepts better which makes it easier to understand. His class is enjoyable!
Dr. Dorrell is overall a good professor. He is well-respected by his students and keeps the class interesting. My favorite thing about him is that he provides facts to so you can formulate your own opinion. Use cengage for homework, which is difficult and sometimes doesn't apply to what you did in class. Very smart guy who knows his sh!t.
Taking Professor Dorrell's course is pretty simple. There are homework assignments every week on Cengage MindTap and the lectures given in class are exactly what the book will say for that week's homework due on Sunday by 11:59 pm. Please study because the exams are challenging and the study groups will also help so please take advantage of that.
Professor Dorrell does a really good job at engaging students in class discussions, which I really appreciated. In class, he usually reviews the curriculum for the week, and then discusses current issues/events that are relevant and important, which makes class interesting and useful. I highly recommend professor Dorrell.
Professor Dorrell is very passionate about his class, but it was not the best class for me just because it was too lecture heavy. He gives chance for extra points and you do have 3 unexcused abstinences. I would suggest taken this course if you like lectures but just do not take it at 8:30 a.m.
Professor Dorrell has been one of my favorite professors I have ever had. He goes over material during lectures and connects it to the real world. He focuses on talking about other things such as cryptocurrency as well. The course is set up for students to succeed. Additionally, do not be afraid to participate, it helps in the long run.,
I hate the class, but actually love John Dorrell as a professor. He connects a lot of his lectures to real life and does a good job at explaining stuff. Workload isn't a lot, but it can be tough. 1 homework assignment due every sunday, but nothing more than that. Would definitely take him again, just don't take it at 8:30 am.
Light workload, and he does a good job of relating the textbook to examples in real life to help you grasp the subject. There is only one assignment per week and it is usually quick. But if you do not show up to class you will struggle on the tests as they are based off the textbook
Super great guy. Class is very simple, show up pay half attention and you will easily pass. My favorite professor so far.
One assignment for home work each week. No text only midterm and finals and one group project.
Micro-econ is a particularly difficult course, but Professor Dorrell made is easier to get through it. He connects everything to examples people will understand. There are 2 exams during semester (midterm and final), make sure you study even though its curved. Theres a group project, its a very easy A if you do it. Don't skip more than 3 classes.
Goat. all i gotta say
Professor Dorrell is an amazing teacher and person. Although the midterm and final are a bit challenging, Professor Dorrell gives his best effort to make life easy for his students. There are homework assignments once a week, but they are simple and aren't so time-consuming. Overall, would take his class again any day.
Weird at first, then a few weeks in you realize he's super cool. Relates everything to current topics and everyday is interesting in class. Would totally take him again.
Professor Dorrell is a fantastic professor. First, he talks about recent news in class and connects it to the class. There is homework every week, but it is pretty simple if you pay attention in class. If you have any concerns, he will try his best to help, so that being said, he is understanding. Attendance is mandatory.
Professor Dorrell was the best professor I've had. This class although challenging at times was made easy because of this professor, the best part about this class was the fact that it wasn't taught straight from the books but Professor Dorrell uses real world experiences that help you to understand the material and see through a different scope.
Dorrell is GOATed. Like crypto? Take this class as he loves to talk about it. Brings real-world examples into ECON. Before class, he plays a video about real things going on in the world to be aware of. Weird when you have him on day 1 but trust me, he opens up. Tests are similar to the study guide. Attend mandatory. Homework every Sunday.
Take him!! Prof Dorrell wants you to do well and if you show up and try, you will get a good grade. I am terrible at economics and got a B. Also participate because it's a big part of your grade.
TAKE DORRELL!! He makes a challenging class easy. Class is mandatory and participation also matters. His class made me double major in economics because I enjoyed and learned from him so much. He has the best teaching style because he doesn't teach straight out of the textbook; instead uses real-life examples that make it easier to understand
Great teacher! Makes a challenging class easier. Midterm was difficult but he gave a practice test that reflected the exam well. One group project. Weekly homework but not too difficult if you pay attention in class. Attendance and participation are a big part of your grade. Take him if you can!
Our class said at first he seemed like an emotionless robot at first, but as the class goes on, he's a good guy. Graded by a few things, but it's 2 tests and a project. Choose a good group because it's a big project. Dr. Dorrell shows a lot of current things, which I really appreciated. He is all about teaching us how to think, not what to think.
Out of all the professors I've had so far, Mr. Dorrell is my favorite! His classes were entertaining and he always relates the topic to the real world which makes the class fun and not a boring lecture! Overall, he is the Goat!
You'll like his class if you are obsessed with crypto and bitcoin. He spends most of class talking about it and spends very little time actually going over the information we need for homework and tests. He's not mean, but he definitely has an ego and is not great at helping outside of class.
GOATED. Professor Dorrell is my favorite professor I've had here at UT. Amazing lectures about real world topics and on the few assignments he gives a study guide is given to you. 10/10 would take again
Hes an awesome professor, he encourages students to think critically about the world around them. Ive learned more in this class entry level class than I did in some of my 200 classes. Everything he teaches applies to the real world around you.
This man dorell i would fight for. But he get outta hand a little bit, attendance is mandatory but if you can finesses then your streight.
I know a few people that have taken this class, and they would not take it again. He understands what he does well, and he also loves teaching. However, he does not give much leeway to anything, and the class feels more like a job, then a class. He does, however, provide minimal extra credit if you broadcast crypto club around campus.
talks a lot about current news which was sometimes interesting but took up a lot of class time so we didn't learn a lot about course material needed to complete homework assignments. Personally did not like his class or him as a teacher. Theres weekly homework assignments, a debate, group presentation and a midterm and final
This class is very interesting and Professor Dorrell does a great job of relating relevant real world topics to the slideshows. Midterm, Attendance, group project, homework, final make up your whole grade in the class (20% each).
Prof. Dorrell is one of the most knowledgable professors I've taken. He is very enthusiastic about what he teaches. However if you are looking for an easy class this is not the right class for you. If you want to learn the most you can about economics and it's uses in the real world I would highly recommend his class.
Professor Dorrell was not the best instructor and made the class very hard and confusing. You must participate in class bc it counts towards your grade. Weekly hw assignment took forever to do. You must really put in the work to pass this class. He gives a midterm, cumulative final, and group project. Harsh grader and very few extra credit.
Professor Dorrell is nothing short of awesome. He taught the class life skills as well as the necessary content. He does many interactives during his classes and promotes open mindedness and free thinking. He opened up a whole new scene of opportunity to me and many of my classmates through organizations at school as well as some incredible jobs!
You will have to show up to class and participate to get a good grade in his class. He teaches all of the requirements for micro, but he also adds a lot of real world economics as well. Life stuff that will help you in business and economics current events. I learned that economics basically effects so many things in the world around me.
It's not an easy class, but economics is not an easy subject. He knows a lot about economics, but definitely isn't one of those professors that will hold your hand and walk you through every homework question. He teaches a lot about the system of money, and the big picture topics in economics.
I just finished Dr. Dorrell's Cryptocurrency Economics class. It was AMAZING! We basically learned how the global system of money works. It was a lot of work, but it was enjoyable at the same time. It was probably the best class I have taken at UT.
His Maymester Economics of Cryptocurrency class was really good. The timing of it was strange, but that wasn't really his fault. He teaches a lot about real life economics and I see money in a whole new light. He talks about cryptocurrency a lot, but he shows both the pros and the cons.
Dr. Dorrell's class isn't easy, but it is very clear what you need to do for an A. Show up, participate, and put in the work to learn economics. There is some math involved, but that is expected for the subject. He teaches a lot about technology and economics and the future of the job market, and what skills you should have to succeed.
Economics is pretty tough if you don't know any math, but if you put in the effort you will be ok. Professor Dorrell spends about half the time from the textbook and slides and the other time with class discussions and economics videos. The system of money is one of his favorite topics.
He is a great lecturer. His class is outside of the box and he inspires students to learn about economics and to be engaged in current events. The class is taught mostly through real world examples and discussion which I found much easier to apply than just going through a textbook. Attendance is important. 10/10 recommend
The course really stresses coming to class each day and participating. You have to buy the book and you have one group presentation. Professor Dorrell usually breaks up the class between lectures, slides, videos, and discussion. There is a lot of real world application and you have to do some math for the exams. Overall, pretty fair class.
So far, he has been the only professor I genuinely don't like at all at UTampa. He barely teaches actual macroeconomics and instead lectures about what seems almost like conspiracies and then runs through a pre-made powerpoint. Exam questions are not only the material but also random lectures. Also only has 5 graded things all worth 20%.
Took his class a couple years ago and didn't understand a lot of what he was saying, but now that I have a job in the real world it totally make sense. You have to learn to see how the economy works around you.
Professor Dorrell brings in relevant world examples and tries to engage his class. He cares for his students and tries to prepare you for a work environment, acting more like a boss than a professor. You can receive extra credits from participating and checking out crypto club. If you only want an easy A, you might wanna check out other professors.
Professor Dorrell is a standout educator. He goes beyond the textbook, focusing on real-life economics, which I found incredibly engaging. His genuine care for students and commitment to their understanding sets him apart. Easily one of the best professors I've had.
He is a very interesting and fun teacher who is able to relate to the students. His classes are generally lecture heavy and from a powerpoint but there are a lot of group projects such as debates that you have to do as well. Attendance is mandatory and you are required to participate 10 times per semester. Overall, he's a fun guy and a good teacher
He is awesome
taking him again next semester hes so chill and funny
As a non-business major taking this class, he was very easy to understand and the lectures were clear. He brings in real world examples and makes complex topics easier to understand. Gives study guides for both exams. Participation and attendance matter!!!!, so so much extra credit. Do your homework, participate and show up and you'll be golden.
Amazing professor and really inspirational. You will learn a lot from him. He's giving you real life example for you to understand better economics and we often talked about current events which I think is important. He's by far one of my favorite professor at UT. Lots of extra credit opportunity. Very chill and funny. TAKE HIM !!!
He teaches a lot about investing by understanding economics. He is strict, but his schedule is easy to follow. He goes off on sports betting and too much social media which can be annoying, but he may have a little bit of a point.
Economics is a pretty tough subject, so you do have to study quite a bit and not miss many classes. He was really serious the first month, but by the second half of the semester he opened up a bit with more jokes and even brought his big dog to school for an outside class one day. Tests are hard, but you can get extra credit also.
When I took the class, it was pretty hard for the first month, but when I got in a rhythm it got much easier. There are two exams, homework quizzes, a project, and attendance. Pretty simple break down and you just have to stay organized and then the class isn't too hard.
This class talks a lot about real world economics. Dorrell usually shows a concept from the chapter and the gives real data as an example of how the idea is in the real world. He also shows current events in the news or video discussions on the topic. He is tough sometimes, but overall, pretty cool.
This professor is great! He's very knowledgeable and talks about the real world and is very engaged with students. He is super nice and chill, can seem intimidating at first but he is just honest and says things how they are. 20% is homework, 20% is participation and attendance, 20% for each exam and 20% a project. Lots of extra credit.
easy chill guy that wants to teach you Econ but understands not everyone is going to be an Econ major. Test are simple and straight forward. Would 100 percent take him if you want to pass the class
Good class overall. Dorrell is very knowledgeable on economics and uses real examples and stats. Midterm and Final each worth 20% of grade, 1 group presentation 20%, attendance/participation 20%, easy homework 20%. If you join his club 1 point of extra credit per week. Tests are pretty similar to the reviews. Great option especially for econ major.
Dorrell is the realest professor I've ever had. He genuinely practices what he preaches. He doesn't stand there and lie to you about our economy and tell you the government is right and truthful and on our side. It's the most real-world economics class you will take. If you don't know much about the economy he will open your eyes. Helpful hw too.
Dr. D was dropping alpha on us all year long. He called out Drake long before Kendrick. Told us about NVIDIA before it doubled. Even explained the death of the petrodollar before I even knew what it was. In hindsight, it was a great class.
Johns gives lots of real world advice about investing/money. There is typically 1 homework assignment per week and is only about 20-45 minutes of work. He will almost always let you out of class early and the tests are not very difficult at all, if you pay attention in class you could easily pass without any studying.
I was a class captain for Professor Dorrell. He is a tough grader but provides many extra credit opportunities as well as participation points. He really ties the class into current events and makes it interesting and doesn't just lecture. Class discussions are encouraged from all viewpoints. Not the easiest class, but definitely a great professor
Amazing teacher, great guy and realizes that the textbook isn't actually going to teach you about the economy of our world. Although we are all so trapped into being textbook oriented when it comes to the midterm he throws in topics that were just covered in class discussions not concrete things out of the textbook, so pay attention to lectures.
Great very intelligent guy. Currently have him and he is the best professor ive ever had. Super smart, helps everyone else become super smart, cares about his students futures. I can easily recommend him to anyone who cares about making money in the future, pay attention to his real world lectures and try and get on his good side cuz he's great.
Dorrell was easily one of my least fav professors ever. Must participate 10 times and show up to every class no excuses. Only 5 things graded, one being attendance and participation. Midterm and Final are nearly impossible and his teaching is very opinion based. Class is easy to sit through but tough grader on the group project and awful exams.
Dorrell is a G. Only hard thing was the group presentation, but if you have good group members then its easy. Dorrell doesn't ramble on about random BS and actually gives real life advice. He recommended BOTH Nvidia and Microstrategy before they took off. Many in our class made a lot of money because of his advice. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!
John is a great professor. The only negative feature of John is his hate of XRP and the community. Being an XRP holder, it is the future of Crytpo, and listening to him continuously shet on it hurt my feelings. Clowning me in September for holding, but I get to show him who's boss. #XRP2MOON #XRP2$100. Overall, the greatest class you can take.
DORRELL IS THE GOAT. His class isn't a free A but he is one of the first professors i've had who spends time on what is important, and that is how to be successful in life. He is super funny and is always trying to make his students succeed. His crypto insight was super valuable in the time we are in and HE GIVES SO MUCH EXTRA CREDIT! GOAT.
Great class. Extra Credit matters. Make sure to max grade out on weekly homework assignments. Attend Crypto club for extra credit on Midterm and Final
This was by far my favorite class I have taken so far. Professor Dorrell is so knowledgeable and caring. He teaches a lot more than just the textbook. Classes were always interactive and a fun group discussion. The only two tests are the midterm and final. As long as you take good notes you will be fine. Also participation matters. TAKE HIM!
Dr. Dorrell is a great person and a great lecturer, but not the best professor. The course is heavily self taught. Weekly homework and test prep (quizzes). Lectures are interesting, but he doesn't spend much time on material. we talk about real world economics(very applicable). only two exams, plenty of extra credit If you're ok with a B, take him!
One of my favorite teachers of all time. He does not teach out of a textbook but instead shows you real life current examples. His tests are very easy if you show up to class and pay attention. He also gives out a lot of extra credit. 10/10 would recomend.
Dr. Dorrell greatest economist I have met, will actually teach you valuable things that you will use outside of the class unlike many other professors. Man is caring, accessible, funny and overall just the best experience in UT. Predicted NVDIA pump, and more ! Just come to class, listen and participate, and you won't regret. He's the G.O.A.T !!!!
Great at teaching material, tough grader for group projects. His lectures are always very entertaining and he encourages class discussion. Extra credit is easy to get by attending Crypto clubs and class participation. Homework is pretty easy if you pay attention in class. Need to really understand material to pass exams, but he gives study guide.
Amazing Professor. Lectures are so easy to engage with and he makes learning economics actually interesting. Super smart about economics and doesn't make you feel dumb for not knowing anything and encourages research in class to know how to answer questions. Amazing guy fr fr
just don't. seriously i am warning you. loved all my other professors, but would cry to my mom about dorrell.
Best I've had in this school, want a good grade with clear explanations about macroeconomics, take him. He will forge you to be the best !
TAKE HIM! I had him for both micro and macro, made it so easy to succeed. as long as you participate, show up to class, and suck up a little, you will do so well. he uses a textbook but barely teaches out of it. Lectures are interesting and about real world things. midterm and final and one large group project, easy weekly hw. hes the goat!
Goat for micro. only downside is he grades attendance
we had a presentation graded by classmates but only have so many points to give out...if you wanted to give a group 100, you had to give another group a D. He didn't grade them himself and only used those numbers. We also had a debate that made me want to die. So bad and made me want to never chose business.
there's only 5 things he grades and they all count for the same percentage which is dumb. if you don't talk at all in this class or attend, your grade is gonna tank. its mandatory. little homework/workload, but i think the grading scale is very unfair.
You can learn so much from his class about stuff that actually matters in the economy. Very tailored to current events and practical knowledge. Participate and be a class captain (5 extra credit on midterm and final for light ta kind of work). The amount of extra credit offered helps a lot and the work outside of class is very manageable. Take him!
I would recommend him. His is sometimes strict, but the class is straightforward and if you do the work you will be fine. His main thing is like how to use economics in real life. There are a lot of charts and data in the class about economic conditions. He was tough in the beginning but by the end he was making jokes and pretty cool.
It's not an easy class by any means, but you do learn a lot about the global economy and technology. He seems too strict at first, but if you participate he will like you. The slides are boring at times, but on the other hand there are a lot of relevant current events and video clips.
You need to show up for all the classes and lock in for exams. That's most of the grade. Dr. Dorrell's class is good in most ways, but my group project members weren't helped, and I did all the work and got a bad grade, so that part was unfair. But I did learn a lot. Tradeoffs I guess.
Sounds like a cool dude, I did not take his class but I would imagine this is the grade I would get if I did take it.
He really likes Polo and Bitcoin. He also teaches a lot about finance and banking with his economics class.
I had professor Dorrell for Eco 204, Eco 205, and Eco 495. He is an absolute amazing teacher, everything he lectures about is relative to understanding the economy today. Additionally, he loves crypto and Bitcoin (Eco 495). If you want to learn how to make money, what impacts the economy, and understand what to invest in and why, take his class.
PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS! The exams are mostly based on things he says in class, if you don't pay attention, you will do badly, and they are worth a huge percentage of your grade. He is nice, very knowledgeable, and will give you TONS of opportunities for extra credit outside of class.
One of the realest teachers in the entire school. You can sort of chill during most the classes. You don't need to take notes that often because the exams are different than the lectures. Try and participate for anything he asks because you need the credit and it is very easy to acquire, just don't say the stupidest things. Overall, love the guy.
This post is for ECO 495! This class is awesome if you like to learn, exercise practicality, and ultimately make smarter decisions. You'll learn about crypto, AI, the Federal Reserve, housing, and the future of money. Very fair class, counts as a finance elective. Take this if you want to learn something.
Crypto Currency and FINTECH class. Professor Dorell was a great professor who really helped me understand crypto currency as I was a beginner coming into the class. Its a great class and I fully recommend it.
The economics of cryptocurrency and FINTech was a fun and informative course.
Economics of Cryptocurrency is an amazing class and everyone should take it. This was the first semester it was offered at UTampa and they should offer it every semester. Genuinely the only class I have learned useful information that I have used in life. We are up to date on current events and read about facts not opinions. Great class!
My favorite class that I have taken in all my years of school. Very insightful, interesting and Dorrell is a great guy. If you do not take this course, you will be left behind and are simply dumb.
ECO 495 - Bitcoin and FinTech Great Class learned a lot from the class and is extremely important to understand the new and upcoming market with technology and crypto. My favorite class so far and is such a fun class to learn with.
This class was phenomenal, if you're curious about crypto I would highly recommend taking him.
Took this class for ECO 495. Great class to learn about Crypto, Digital Assets, and FinTech. Ton of information learned that you won't learn about in other finance or economics classes. Would totally recommend if you want a different style of class.
Awesome Class, highly recommend. You learn the concepts of Fiat and Hard Money, how crypto / bitcoin work and so much more. Having a professor who enjoys this niche and understands the economics of how it works really is what brings value to the course.
Took Professor Dorrell for Economics of Cryptocurrency and FinTech. It's the best class I've ever taken. I recommend it.
Professor Dorrell is incredibly passionate and intelligent. He teaches Economics in such a real and unique way, focusing more on current events than the outdated textbook principles. I was never into Econ but he made me love the subject. His class is very organized and designed to make his students succeed. 2 exams and 1 group project(100 pts each)
