When I took him in 2001, this guy was totally easy. He allowed open book tests
jokes around in class (very funny guy). I took his computer concepts class. It was so easy, not very strict attendance policy. Most of grades are open-book on-line quizes, you do on your own time! Tests arent open-book but come straight from quizes (EASY)
Great teacher. He shows that he wants you to make the best grade you can and he tries to keep his lectures as entertaining as possible.
Tests are NOT open book anymore. Lecture is really not required, I went three times throughout the entire semester and made a B in the class. Tests come straight from the questions on the WebCT chapter quizzes, but it is difficult to memorize all the questions on them to know what to expect for test
Easy B
easy class. easy test. not attendence policy. tells students not to come if they know the material. recommend taking it. easy grade.
I only went to class for the tests. Quizzes were online and you could do them at your leisure. Tests came straight from them. I got an A easily.
No attendance required. Just have do Sam quizzes and take tests. If u know excel and access no need to go to class. Just do quizzes that are do every Sunday and take tests. U can become certified in both for $60 each.
Extremely easy teacher. If you just show up on test days there is no way you cant get an A. Even if you miss a online SAM quiz you just ask and he will extend it untill whenever. Would definatly recommend him
BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER TAKEN.Super laid back. Really funny. Could care less if you come to class or not. Easiest A and I missed two whole months of classes!
Take Dyer! Sooo easy. He never shows up for class, and you don't have to either. Very helpful! You would be stupid not to take this class
Dyer is the man!!! Tells funny stories in class, and you dont have to pay attention at all. I did my homework, or played games on my computer on days that I actualy showed up.
Awesome teacher. Super nice and has tats running all over his arms. Easy class and he makes it very entertaining. I highly recommend taking him.
Awesome Professor, honestly the easiest A you could have outside PE. The guy is super BA and intimidating but he's nice. Almost never came to class so we showed up for nothing most days...Still easy class, good teacher when he comes, would have an A if i didn't forget to study formulas for one of the tests.
One of the easiest As I received. Which he taught more of the computer classes. Very nice and helpful.
Dyer is the man! Super easy class and super cool guy. Cancels class a lot and attendance isn't mandatory. He teaches you things that can actually benefit you in life rather than teaching from stupid powerpoints.
This class is a lot of busy work basically, but it is very helpful. You will spend at least 2 hours a week working on this stuff, but the class should be extremely easy if you are familiar with excel. I took the all online part.
Dr. Dyer assigns a lot of work, but his tests are online, attendance isn't mandatory, class gets cancelled all of the time, and he gives out extra credit at the end. He doesn't lecture, but rather walks you through the processes in lab, which means some days, you'll also get out early.
Half the class was text book; rest was Access (online). It's a lot of work and you have to stay on top of it. Most of the work can be done ahead of time. Tests based on chapter tests. Projects very detailed so stay up with what he gives you - getting behind adds unnecessary pressure in the end - he does give help when asked
Great teacher. Hilarious. Classes aren't lectures, he walks you step by step the material needed for the homework, which are based on the tests. No textbook needed. I got an A by paying attention in the homework.
It doesnt get much better than Dr. Dyer. Extremely laid back yet extremely intelligent. He will help you through any problems you have, and his very easy going. There's a lot of work in this class, but it seems to mostly be busy work, and it's all online. You rarely need to go to class unless its a testing week.
TAKE HIM. He walks you through the information step by step so you can go home and apply it to the homework and tests. He is very intelligent and knows what he's talking about, we used MyITLab which is a great program for the class and other than that no book was required. He isn't in class for busy work either you get the info then go. Take him!!
Great professor! He's very willing to help, but the class is super easy! Definitely recommend him!
Really cool guy. Not your typical college professor by any means. He's extremely successful and knows what he is talking about. If you go to 80% of the classes, you get extra credit. Must get a 95% for an A but that is MyITLab's rule, not his. He is understanding if you actually talk to him. Really funny guy and is not afraid to say what he wants.
You have to get at least a 95 to get an A & a B is anything between 85-95. He does offer a bonus opportunity if you go to 80% of the classes. I have friends taking the same class w such smaller course load. You have 50 mltp choice q's, 20 mltp choice q's, and then 2-4 additional assignments every. single. week. SO MUCH TEDIOUS work.
There's only one major project. If any single part of it doesn't work, you're screwed. Which would be okay if he actually was able to help you correct any problems that came up. I got an 81 in his class, which for some reason is a C? Totally makes sense. Also, hope you weren't offended by the holocaust. Dyer rocks iron cross and swastika earrings.
Dr. Dyer is a really funny guy with a great personality, but be prepared to be loaded with assignments. The chapters get very long, meaning you will have 70-100 question quizzes over them weekly. CTRL+F is your best friend. The demos and exercises are pretty easy. Try not to take more than one of his classes each semester. Otherwise, he's okay.
Dr. Dyer really cares about his students. The assignments are overwhelming at first, but they become shorter as the semester goes on. ALWAYS check your email before class, because he tends to cancel. He always pushes back deadlines if he cancels or we don't get to the material, because he wants to be there to help us if we need it.
He's a good teacher who understands the frustration with MYITLAB and is more than willing to fix your grade on assignments when it does not seem to be grading properly. Easy course but there is a lot of work each week.
I made a 98.4 in the class but I really had to work for it. I went to the tutoring in the IT building for every assignment. He also gives two extra credit chapters and 5 points for taking a Microsoft excel or access certification exam. You will pass but you need to put effort into it. also do not wait until the last moment to do something.
The professor seems out to lunch. Our lectures weren't very long, and he didn't explain much. THEN we'd have our homework quizzes, which were brutally hard, way harder than the ones myITlab came up with. He wrote all the steps himself, and they were super confusing. I showed them to a tutor and he could barely decipher them. 6+ hrs hw per week.
Best professor I've ever taken, do you part and you get a good grade.
Insane amount of coursework. WAY more than any other teacher, expect around 8 or so assignments every week and 7 long assignments during test week. That being said, he's a great teacher and one of the coolest professor's you'll ever have. Just expect loads and loads of work. Class isn't mandatory but he grades where 95+ is an A.
A LOT of coursework but will eventually help your grade. He's a great teacher and one of the coolest professors you'll ever have. Grading scale is a little higher where 95+ is an A and 85+ is a B but if you do the work on myitlab you can easily make an "A". Attendance not mandatory. Highlight Recommended
if you take him take him online. I did and made a 93 after all the grades were entered 95 is required for and A. Luckily I did the extra credit excel certificiation exam ( It costs about $115 so its optional) and got my grade up to 98 and Made and A in the class
Best professor to take for CISM 2530. Super chill about attendance and helpful in class and knows his stuff. It was my 2nd time taking this class and I wouldn't have needed to if I'd had him the first time around. Take him!
Bitter sweet course. Professor Dyer is great, pretty funny, attendance is not mandatory (but you will want to be there bc he helps with assignments). Workload is VERY HEAVY. Assignments, book reading, and labs due every single week. Never replied to any of my emails but helped me in class if I asked. You will learn a lot, just get ready for work!
Professor Dyer is a cool and funny guy. Very helpful if you show up to class and ask questions. Multiple chances on homework and quizzes. One quiz is always 50 questions every week and takes forever. No class on exam weeks. Uses folio for emails, and infrequently responds to them. An A in his class is 95 or up, made a 94 and ended up with a B.
Workload heavy, for those with busy schedules this class is a wreck. I found it hard to organize with the workload that was due. Extra credit is available, and i'd suggest taking it. 50 question quizzes online after every chapter, coursehero/ctrl+f will help you much.
I took this class online during the summer, and trying to balance it with two other classes was the biggest mistake I have ever made. The amount of homework assigned is ridiculous, and be prepared to spend pretty much an entire day on the computer to take the tests. A 94 is considered a B, an 84 a C, etc. CTRL+F will become your best friend.
Took online term A. I spent hours each day on the computer. There's 1-2 chapters due every few days, and within each chapter there's at least 4 assignments. Grading scale is 95+ is an A. I wouldn't try to balance with a busy schedule, and I definitely recommend going to tutoring everyday for the assignments.
He uses an ancient grading scale. Its pretty much impossible to make an A unless you pay $200+ to take certifications that gives you 20 bonus points if you even pass. This class was definitely not worth all of the stress it brought. The amount of homework given in the summer is a sure death sentence. I dont recommend this class for busy students.
It is true that there is a lot of work for this class but is relatively simple with the exception of some of the formulas in Excel. He opens up the course BEFORE the class even begins to help you get ahead so take advantage of that. He originally put in the wrong Final Grades for us so pay attention when that time comes around for you.
It's a pretty easy class as long as you stay on top of everything. The work is really not that bad.
Dr. Dyer is a good choice. All of the work is done online, and attendance isn't required. Make sure you keep up with the work outside of class. There is a lot, but if you stay on top of it, it will not be bad.
Professor Dyer is a good professor. He is very clear about what he wants and as long as you complete your work within the due dates it really isn't too bad of a class. There are a lot of assignments though so be prepared.
I took this class online during the summer. It was a mini mester so there was a ton of material in a short period of time. Could not miss a day or I would fall behind. He lets you know this up front so you are not surprised. Lays everything out in the syllabus up front.
This was by far the best and most useful class I have taken. I might be biased because I am in love with Excel and use it all day every day, and really wanted to learn to use Access. The materials are outstanding and really empower you to learn the material--you keep doing the simulations until you fully understand. Very clear grading and syllabus.
Do NOT take this class online, PERIOD.
Took CISM2530 online, easy A if you do the assigned work every week. It is honestly an easy class and pretty cool to learn all the shortcuts on excel. Whoever said don't take this class, was afriad to do the homework.
Pretty structured class, you have weekly assignments throughout the entire semester, in class assignments and projects that are worth a big portion of your grade, he posts the schedule before class every week, literally pointless to be there if there isnt an assigment, won't get any grades back though until you receive your final grade
He's an awesome guy, kinda crazy but full of cool stories. 99% of the time you'll just hear those and not actual class content, it's all online on connect and super easy. However, he's super smart in business and can help you with anything needed. 10/10 if it wasn't for the annoying TA in my class.
One of the chillest and funniest professors I've ever had. He says some things that are a little inappropriate, but he's cool all around. Class lecture does not reflect the homework, at all.
Dr. Dyer is a great professor, from the first say of class he made it very clear what he expected out of the class. This was an online course so everything was online. The work in the class is not difficult but it is very tedious work so make sure you set aside enough time to complete all the assignments.
He is good at communicating and setting clear standards.
Class is homework heavy easy to pass, lenient on deadlines
This class is pretty tough if you don't have an understanding of Excel already. 4 to 5 weekly assignments, all posted at the beginning of the semester. 3 two-part exams throughout the semester, highly recommend taking the practice exams first.
I thought this class would be super easy, but I also came into it with no understanding of excel. All the weekly assignments are easy as well as the exams, Except for the weekly projects those are extremely difficult. I failed many of them but passed everything else.
Professor Dyer is a straightforward professor! It is a good amount of workload, but he gives you the schedule upfront. You could do all the work ahead of time except exams! The work is literally so easy, it tells you how to do things. Just do the work and you will pass!
not a bad class don't be intimidated, easier than it actually looks.
Ive never seen or heard this professor throughout the semester, but all the work is uploaded so you just go at your own pace really. This class really isnt as bad or as intimidating as it seems. You can really pass it with an B or A easy.
The course work sucks, and there's a lot of it. But, Dyer gives you the entire schedule from day one, and you can move as fast or slow as you want. I was able to get about a month ahead of the schedule at some points in the semester. You'll have to put in a decent chunk of time, but the answers are mostly online.
Class is real easy, professor wise he is not very good. He barely communicates and when he does he is passive aggressive or answers in the minimal amount of words possible. Very annoying when you are paying him to respond to your emails.
Took the class online, which was great since he provided a schedule and all assignments were open from the beginning of the semester (besides exams) and due at a certain time. At least 4-5 assignments per week, which takes about 1-2 hours to do. The assignments does provide multiple attempts which was beneficial. Class prefers Windows than Mac.
Took him in person but the class is basically all online. His lectures are not great, but the material is super easy to figure out on your own. HW due every night, but none of it takes more than like 30 mins, and you can get way ahead if you want. The guy is so funny, and wants his students to do well. You also get a lot of resume boosters.
All the work gets open the day class starts, its excel based and self-learned but the book gives examples on how to do the assignments. Did not have to communicate with him at all everything was pretty much self-explanatory. But every week you have work due so be aware on completing them in time. If you need help their are examples online.
very easy class, the simbooks help explain and guide everything. the class is do-able and you could complete the class ahead of time (except exams) since mr. dyer posts all the homework assignments at once, even though it is time consuming. as long as you stay on top of your work, you will pass!
Online. A lot of homework which was is time-consuming, but you can complete it at your own pace. His extra credit raised me an entire 6 points of my grade. if you need help with any of his assignments it is all over Google. If you need to take CISM 2530(Advanced Business Applications), I highly highly highly recommend John Dyer ONLINE!!!
This class is all excel work. As long as you do all the assignments you should make an A or B.
The professor has everything laid out for you. Every single assignment is written out and easy to follow. Granted this was an online class and you could your resources it wasn't hard to pass.
If you take this class online, it's all really easy if you just get assignments done in due time. He has everything laid out and has attendance quizzes once a week and they're all 10 questions based on the syllabus so it's an easy quiz grade. Exams were a little hard, but if you get As on all the assignments and extra credit, it's an easy A+.
You'll never once hear anything from this professor. Announcements for your instructions for the week are sent out at midnight on Sunday and then you're thrown to the wolves to figure out everything in each unit. You will have a reading, simulation, quiz, and one or two projects for each unit and that's every week. He's not willing to help either.
Dr Dyer was a wonderful professor to have for an online class. You didn't really need to contact him that much unless you had problems but he set expectations extremely clear. Class was overall super easy and didn't cause me any stress during the semester.
Easy just do the assignments. There are tutorials online.
Very easy class. There's a schedule that you can follow but if you have time, do all the work ahead of time.
He's honestly a good professor. This was an online class, and he gave us all the information needed to pass the course. Yes, it's a lot of work because of the projects and homework problems, but you'll pass if you follow the directions (which could be a little tricky sometimes).
He was a good professor. The work was easy. He provided videos for us to see how to do the assignments. There are also Youtube videos to help guide through the projects too
about 3 assignments a week, 3 exams and a few main projects. John's class was easy and well managed. He allows late assignments up until exam date, but takes 10% off. all of his assignments are multiple attempts, and exams are simple.
Not great at person to person communication if you need help but most assignments are straightforward and easy.
This class was so easy - and if I ever had a question Professor Dyer would get back to me in a timely manner. It was all online, using excel and access.
Make sure to pay attention on how to do project 1 other than that he's a good professor.
Amazing professor! This class is basically busywork, but its not hard busywork. He assigns homework every week, and it could be up to 9 assignments, but they're easy. Trust me. If you need to take ISBA 3131, this is the BEST professor to have. Such an easy A.
Lots of daily work
Loved this class and directions were straightforward
