Not great, but you could do much worse.
Well spoken and fair. Tepid in every aspect.
Fair guy that works with you, interesting class debates and dialouge
No Comments
Likes to go on tangets, doesnt actually teach
bbbbbbbbbboooooring
Fair and understanding.
asks to much for a hss course at njit
Rambles for the three hours of class. Assigns meaningless papers that you never get back. Makes excuses for everything (cancled class once because he bit his tongue). Asks too much for an HSS at NJIT and if we're supposed to meet a deadline, he should2
this guy makes the class to hard, he puts things on the midterm he didnt assign, many things, he never returns papers, never freakin lets u know ur progress, this guy isnt cool at all
DO NOT TAKE HIM! Never gives back any papers been 3 weeks and counting for midterm, radical views and his comments should be kept to himself, midterm has questions that he never went over.
I thought he was alright. His class was sometimes fun, sometimes boring, it depends on the class participation of that day. KInd of a fair grader, not too tough, I don't know what other people were complaining about. I would take him again, no doubt.
Easiest class ever. This guy rambles on about his house in Connecticut and other boring crap, but his class is quite easy. Sometimes he will throw in questions about things not in the book. Still, a vacation compared to other classes.

he is an ok teacher, class conversations are interesting,he never gives you essays(a big plus for engineers busy with other stuff),his midterm and final were almost identical, just take notes on the material and u can get an easy, easy A!!!!!
Spacey. Too artsy. Loves theatre, relates everything to it. Gets way to much homework for an HSS class.
Really good teacher, really easy A, just read the damn book and take the exam, cake.
Ridiculous Teacher. I dropped him the first day of class
is nice. exams are identical. Give lots of citations in papers.
Generally easy as far as quizzes but gives way too much in the way of homework. Switches time generations and topics very abnormally. Prepare to do lots of work, but exams are very alike with many repeated questions and the multiple choice words.

A very educated professor, and very entertaining and informative for those with interest in the course. If you're taking the course simply for requirements, stay away, he's too hard for you.
wow. he rambles and goes all over the place. taking notes is rough because he has scatter sessions so ur not sure what was when. Mentions sumthing once them is a big question on the exams. DUH? lazy and late with grading. not an easy A also a pain.
Goes on tangents a lot, is kinda boring at times and his tests are all memorization (of weird things no one bothers to remember). BLAH!
way off the mark for the class. the Humanities department is dying at NJIT... professors like this are the reason why. didn't have a good idea where he was going with class and that lack of direction made everyone suffer. drop the class if you get him.
gives way too much work...doesnt return papers, talkes about irrevelent things, asks unimportant questions on tests....basicilly DO NOT TAKE HIM if you have a life
Good man, but too much home work. He really likes the subject and very knowledgable. But he thinks that you have only history to study. If you are willing to do lot of work take him. Not a bad teacher.
ATTENTION: STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROFESSOR! Every week you have to bring a newspaper article and write a paragraph of how it relates to the class topic of the week. Pointless quizzes. He will rip you a new one if you dont know an answer. Im warning you.
This guy gives WAY TOOO much work. He changes topics and assignments randomly. Always late to class with stupid excuses. If you have him, PREPARE FOR THE WORST!!
He is always late. He lets class out late. He is always talking about himself. He never stays on topic. His test are never from the book but they are on questions and vocabulary words and maps.
Always late w/ lame excuses (ex. "I walked from the other side of the campus"). A lot of work given during a semester. Better pay attention in class, the stuff he said WILL be on quiz.
... **** ...he is ****, always late, goes off on tangents, never returns anything, difficult grader and quizzes have "clever" questions and are impossible to read without getting confused.
Way toomuch work assigned. Countless out of class assignments, quizes are too detailed so you'd better know your stuff! Slow grader. Group project, 10 page paper, weekly newspaper assignment, 2 books to read + course text and i can keep going on... DOnt torture yourself take someone else.
Never, ever returns emails or past assignments. This guy lost one of my papers and gave me an I for the semester, then after finding the paper the following semester it took him three months to change my grade. Also likes to randomly call on people for class discussions.
absurd workload, totally inconsiderate, great rambler.... I mean teacher. whoops.
Very funny class, lot of work and too much analysis at times, but quizzes are pretty simple and the research paper is leniently graded as long as it shows you put some effort into it and made a point. Expect a lot of open humor, but that's better than most professors who are too damn uptight.
excellent teacher. very reasonable grader. made class interesting.
Took this class Summer 05. You watch lots of movies in class and its actually pretty fun. Only downside is you have to go see a Broadway play. Fair grader and a fun/easy class.
SUCKS! He thinks his class is the only one you're taking. You can't take notes because what he says is going in every direction.IF he's talking about Picaso then moved to the declaration of independence, then discussed Moliere, then expect the quiz to be on Shakespeare! Smells like a plumber and spits like a fireman.AVOID AVOID ...THEN AVOID AGAIN
He never swallows during the entire semester. He doesnt stay on track with anything he talks about, making note taking impossible. Makes you see a broadway play for an essay you have to write.
The Eschebag...what a pain in the ass. Screwed my grade, lost my papers, and never corrected his F' ups.
Horrible teacher. 4 quizes, midterm, final, 2 papers, 1 5 page 1 10 page and too much for reading assignments, about an 40-80 page chapter per week. 10 page paper, at least for this semester, read for whom the bell tolls and compare to spanish civil war. way too much work. standing assignment every week. avoid if possible.
I take this class in Summer 2006. This class requires you to do alot of work and reading. The quizzes are not easy. This guy is very unclear about what he wants. He's a fair grader. And he rarely writes his notes on the board. Overall, he gives alot of work and he is unfair with his grading.
"He's a fair grader. And he rarely writes his notes on the board. Overall, he gives alot of work and he is unfair with his grading." He's a fair grader but is unfair with his grading? HAHA
He is very weird but interesting. teacher. He has an affinity for broadway plays and brings it into discussion. I guess that is why he teaches theatre capstones. uses the book alot. Quizzes are very easy answers spell out words pertaining to material. gives a 5 page and a ten page research paper and makes you do current events. good guy though.
John Esche is a ****. He is way too into theater and art, and he makes you do these weekly newspaper articles that serve no purpose what so ever. He isnt that hard, but its just annoying.
VERY GOOD PROFESSOR! Not easy but put enough effor into the class and you'll do well. Interesting topics, very knowledgable. Make use of notes he writes on the 1st paper its very helpul in improving grade.
His history on film was such a fun class. Pay attention to the details, but that shouldnt be hard with the high interest of the class.
Horrible class. Professor gives way too much work. This is an engineering school, and not a painter's paradise. This guy needs to chill with the paintings. Talks about a painting for 3 hours and then assigns unrelated stuff. Avoid at all costs. Wheelbarrow + Esche + Bridge + Fall = Happiness.
Teaches low level english electives as though they are high level core courses. His projects are useless and he constantly runs over time due to BS about unrelated topics.
This guy is simply the worst professor I have ever taken. Useless rambling in class about unrelated topics, very unclear about assignments. Grades essays based solely on citations/bibliography page. Are you kidding me? Knocks down several letter grades for not including city of publication of book used. Lousy professor who should leave the school.
I don't know how his head fits through the door. LOVES to hear himself talk (3 hours straight w/o stopping). Thinks he is witty/clever. He knows alot about the material, but nobody cares. Acts like his is the most important and only class. Not a single comment about paper content, only citations. DO NOT TAKE
Talks for 3 hours straight, no notes. His class is the most boring thing ever. A morgue is more entertaining that this class. Might as well replace him with a bowl of sh*t. You'll learn the same amount of material. No body gives a damn who painted what, where, at what time, and what the atmospheric conditions were at the time. AVOID!!!
never take this professor....makes me sleep in the class, even the coffee doesn't work to keep me awake.. DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR EVER.
IF YOU LIKE TO HEAR FOR STRAIGHT 3 HOURS THEN TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. ALTHOUGH HIS EXAMS ARE EASY IF YOU STUDY.
I don't know how I can illustrate how poorly this professor is at his job. He is utterly incapable. It would be more fitting to call the class "BRWY 202- History of Broadway and Theater" There is zero interest provoked and no encouragement to participate. Just endless dictation. Quizzes are easy. Being content is impossible. In short he's an idiot.
I'm writing the paper right now, and it sucks... really really bad. Not one paper, but two papers due on the same day. Plus readings, plus daily attendance articles. Class is alright, but he just sits there for hours and talks. Which can be amusing at times, but... no. *kills self*
His job is to talk for the whole class period, and he does his job well. All you have to do is go to class and sit there and do whatever you want quietly, he TAKES attendance IN MIND. I attend but sleep in every single class, got about 75-80 on all the quizzes and papers(don't miss any) and ended up with an A.
do not bother ull hate ur life
I took 5 classes this semester and I can honestly say that I spent 90% of my study time on this one to the detriment of others. You have to do a research paper, weekly assignments, poems, essays, short stories, and debate preparation in addition to studying the content for the exams. Even with all the work I did, my final portfolio was incomplete.
I took his night class showed up max 5 times i would make up quizzes during his regular class time and hand in all my work into his mailbox on monday some i saved till the portfolio and got a b+. he requires a lot of work but if u are a slacker like me take his night class. We watched some movies also
In the section I took, I had a total of 4 quizzes, which were incredibly easy (hint: multiple choice questions spell words on the side) and 2 papers midterm and final. You do have the optional weekly assignment of current events but they aren't necessary. I sat in the front and got an A. Though just a warning, his breath kinda smells :X
this guy loves to hear himself talk. Easy class.
Nice guy, but kind of boring, he takes attendance in his head. Not too many papers, and grades reasonably.
He thinks that you are only taking his class during the semester. Very hard grader and gives too much work. The quiz is relatively easy although the two papers are a lot of unnecessary work.
2 ten page research papers, homework every week, 4 quizzes 2 exams.... You'll spend Half of your semester time with his class. Tough grader, don't take him if you don't want to hurt your gpa
His work isn't hard, it's just A LOT. It seems like he thinks he's the only class we have. Takes his class way too seriously. Quizzes are ridiculous and are on random knowledge, but not too hard. He rambled the entire class about literally nothing then assigned a paper, sometimes two.. every class..
I thought NJIT english was supposed to be a joke... but its not. That being said, it's still not hard, but definitely not effortless. If you do all your assignments & readings there's no reason not to get an A or B. He's kind of boring, but definitely fair.
This guy loves the subjects he teaches. He will come to campus on his off day to help you. Said that, since he loves the subject... he will give TONS of work and he doesn't mind working hard. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU WANT EASY GRADE.
He has a way to make you work super hard. Don't dream of easy grade with him but if you want to learn he is the best. He is very helpful.
Boring teacher who refers very little to text book. His quizzes and exams are tough but the quizzes match up fairly well with the exams so you'll be good if you study up on those. Not much direction on papers but they're really long. But he will help you thoroughly if you seek it and his quizzes have small twists in them so you should do fine.
Loads and Loads of homework, so don't fall back. If you are willing to keep up with homework then it's easy A. He will go out of his way to help you...
we never had class for more than 45 minutes. just do your work and show up for quizzes. he wants to teach you. show you care some and he will too. idk what everyone else is saying on here. this class was easy.
1. Don't bother buying the book, waste of $10 2. Come to class awake and you'll pass 3. Easy quizzes 4. If you forget to do the reading, he gives you the answers in class 5. WARNING: A lot of bs little assignments outside of syllabus work !!
Only take him if you dont want to go to class. You can skip class and as long as you have somones number in the class youll be fine. He has 3 quizes and gives out a lot of work. 10-12 page final paper + debate. Most hum 102 classes only have a 7-9 page paper. Talks way too much and always gets off topic. Assignment due every week Do not take him.
He is a very good person, but as a teacher he could be more straight forward about what he wants from the students. Also, he gives about 3-4 assignments a week; sometimes they are small, but students have other classes to worry about as well. There is a 10-12 page essay and debates toward the end of the semester. This is the most confusing time.
Does not clarify the work that he puts out and always goes off topic. Talks down to his students like they're dumb and expects everybody to be on the same page without putting concrete guidelines on paper or online. Do not
He's an old man who gets off topic easily. The material we learned wasn't necessary and I didn't really learn much. He gives a lot of homework and papers, but if you go to his office hours he's willing to help and is a nice man. His tests are random, he'll include map questions and even math questions to throw you off but take notes on everything.
Oh, Esche! This poor sweet man can talk for hours on end about basically anything, but he's a good guy. Grade wise you will do fine, he is definitely not a tough grader and cares more about your work cited than anything else. He gives a bunch of tiny annoying assignments each week, that is easy to do. The quizzes easy. Save $9, don't buy the book.
He's a very sweet professor. He is very passionate about what he teaches.
Professor Esche is a great man, but he gives a lot of little assignment, they are easily do able, but they do get annoying though. his final is a minimum of 10 page research paper.
Such a sweet man & a fair grader. Gives tons of little assignments which do get annoying, but as long as you do all of your work you'll get an easy A. Extremely nice and can go on for hours about anything - usually ends class early towards the end of the semester. Do your research for your final paper all throughout the semester because it's A LOT!
mans an attorney so he makes you do a debate at the end - worthless. hes aight, just do your assigned work and youll be fine. he can talk on and on for hours. he gives a lot of bs assignments. still, a sweet old man.
He's an amazing old professor who can go on a tangent about anything. He assigns many little assignments, but practically only grades your citations. His multiple choice on his quizzes spell out a phrase. You have to do a lot of tedious work, but it's still a chill class that's an easy A so long as you do it. Annoying poster, debate, and others tho
He loves to tell stories and go on tangents. His class material isn't that difficult, although you do have about 2-3 small papers and a 10+ page final paper to write. He makes you do a debate, which I personally enjoyed. I have no clue how he grades. However, as long as you show up, there's a good chance of getting an A if you do your work.
He's pretty lenient when it comes to grading, giving you three quizzes (the MC always spells something relevant out - he tells you this before the first quiz) but is a real stickler when it comes to proper citation. He also gives a bunch of extra credit opportunities, which you don't need to really do to get an A.
Hes a nice guy but he is very unspecific about the papers he assigns. He doesn't grade and return the first paper to at least give you an idea of his expectations for following paper, but no. He barley clarified and state his expectations until he decided the class didn't cite the second paper correctly.
does not use canvas like any other class, HW must be emailed. Jank quizzes based on notes, just busy work. "only" 10-15 final paper, acts as if it's barely anything and at the same time demands a highly specific thesis. Self-made portfolio due at end of the semester. a complete nut, stay away from this monster unless you are either crazy or stupid!
He does not grade one assignment. There are students that did not hand one thing in all semester (including the final portfolio) and got an A in the class. He will constantly assign papers and assignments and then "conveniently" never get to grading them lol. He will exclusively take grades from the quizzes which are extremely easy.
Posts no grades to canvas, so you have no idea what grade you have. Goes on tangents about things that have nothing to do with the class, then will give quizzes on material based on his tangents. Unclear guidelines for papers, there's literally no rubric for any work he assigns. Did not learn anything of value from this guy. I BEG you to stay away.
Professor Esche puts effort into the class he teaches. He's clearly passionate about the subject of mystery writing and performance art as a whole. However, I would not recommend him. Don't expect to get any kind of feedback on your work. Be sure to watch the films he assigns and take notes during lectures; it WILL show up on a quiz.
this course consists of 5 speeches, a little bit of hw, and quizzes. hw is light. so are quizzes theyre like 5th grade level. he is an overall nice guy but is rude when giving feedback about ur speech. also is a strict grader for speeches. despite that, class is a fairly easy A. my biggest issue w this class was being speeches, i was always nervous
This professor makes everything difficult. He doesn't use Canvas, emails from a Microsoft Live account, and stores files on Google Drive, using your storage. His three-hour lectures ramble with no slides, and irrelevant info shows up on exams. You need to follow his unclear system, making the class more challenging than it should be. Not an easy A.
He does NOT use canvas. You have no idea what your grade is the entire semester. He assigns a 10 page research paper for a public speaking class. Not a single COM-312 professor assigns a research paper. His lectures are pointless, only reason to show up is to know when work is due bc he's always changing it. He rambles about politics nonstop AVOID!
Nice guy who gives good feedback on your speeches, but the classes themselves are not that valuable. Don't recommend attending class if you have someone else's number. Has a debate and 10 page final research paper that no other COM312 class has. Also does not use Canvas so you have no idea what your grade is.
Professor Esche's COM312 class took me from being a terrible public speaker to a decent one. You can get away with not always going to his lectures and he is old school in the sense that he does not use Canvas, but if you try hard you will come away a better student. I won't need to take anything else with him, but I would if I could.
Professor heavily promoted far-left domestic terrorism in his class. His hard drives need to be checked for CP
Only take if you have a very high interest in the subject matter because he assumes you care as much as him about it (which isn't necessarily bad but keep it in mind) He goes on long tangents and is one of those professors that use every minute of a 3 hour class If you do take him the multiple choice on his quizzes always spell something relevant
- Way too harsh with grading and feedback on speeches. - Barely preps us for his quizzes and puts random geography questions on them. - Doesn't use Canvas for grades, so you don't know your grade. - Rambles and wastes my time all class long. - Makes us write a paper (which no other teacher does). This class STOLE my brain cells, I swear.
