He's a really sweet guy. He's the type of teacher you can trust and actually cares about you. He even sometimes adds his students on facebooks and keeps in touch with them after the semester.
The most relaxed class ever. Attendance is not mandatory. You have 5 tests throughout the semester and that's it. Class is just used for discussion and nothing said will be on the tests, although it may help if you don't understand the reading. Sparknotes comes in clutch for this class.
Best teacher of humanities at john abbott college. He is really nice and interesting .Definitely a MUST TAKE. Plus if you do the work you can get an easy hundred. There is no homework or assignment, just easy and straightforward tests.
I've had this teacher for his Love & Friendship humanities course. The exams mainly are about the readings that you are assigned and the episode of Black Mirror he wants us to write about. He sends the exam questions in advance so there are no surprises on the exams. I would definitely take his class again!
Over the years I have had the opportunities to interact with this person mostly through online medium, his Facebook page, Podcast interviews and I can honestly say that this person has given me so much, he is well read person and whenever he speaks it opens up more space for me grow in every perspective. Thank you John!
John's class is the rare combination of fun, easy, and also great for your R-score. The classes themselves are an hour-long casual conversation with no attendance: your grade is made up only of informal 500 word essays on certain topics throughout the term. A lot of people just didn't bother so the average was low but you can still get 100 easily.
Take John if you can - I had him for The Pursuit of Happiness and it was an easy 100. Classes are just him talking, although he did tend to call on specific students a lot (me included). His recorded lectures on yt were almost word for word copies of the lectures, so just watch those, do the informal essays, and boom - easy R score boost
I dont know where to start with this man, First he gives out way too much homework for absolutely no reason. Second the homework is opinion based and my opinion is wrong? He wouldnt explain why my opinion is wrong and continue to give me low grades after talking to him about it. If you ever take this class please get on his good side
Harshest grader ive ever had; for essays that are opinion based, which btw are WEEKLY. If you wanted feedback, you had to call him on his personal cell, sometimes being difficult to book a set time with him. He never gave us a grading criteria. You can rewrite essays but I dont recommend this class or teacher if you have a heavy schedule.
If you're already tired, his lectures won't keep you awake. Aside from that, his non-formal essays are numerous. Definitely for people who have a lot of opinions. Also he doesn't penalize you for the "wrong" opinion, you just need to be good at explaining your opinions, especially if they're a little out there.
If you go to class and listen, you get good grades on the quizzes. HW is one essay per week, and you need to write about the material discussed in class, which is basically just his opinions on different topics. Low rating because he uses facts which are simply inaccurate to support potentially offensive opinions on race and mental health.
Absolute delusional teacher. Essay every week, no grading criteria at all. If he does not like what you wrote, you need to take a meeting past class time with him just for him to tell you to add a few things. It is disgraceful how teacher's like this have PhD's and are called teachers. You will get absolutely nothing of value from his class
Talks for the entirety of the class and expects way too much of his student. He assigns 500-1000 word essays every week and you can't get higher than 70 if you write under 800 words. He has no grading criteria and will harshly grade your essays so that you can book a private call with him on your personal time. There's also 1 quiz/week
Don't take this guy unless you want to spend over 5 hours of personal out-of-school time per week on this course and get a low to average grade.
Boring and tough grader that gives way too much homework/assignments. You need to write 700-1000 words a week, read 10 000 words a week and do a reading quiz a week. Good luck having any personal free time left after all that!
Too much homework and there's no actual knowledge gained from listening to this teacher's boring lectures. Stay away!
The material isn't educational as it is simply his opinions backed by articles by his favourite authors. No grading criteria, no feedback. If you don't like your mark you'll have to call him on his personal cellphone and he will make you read your entire essay to him and point out what could be improved. 13 essays,10 quizzes and 1 final exam.
Centred around group conversations, not so much lecturing and no in class assignments
Personally, I found John's class to be brilliant. His lectures really get you thinking, and a lot of the knowledge I've gained from him will stick with me forever. Definitely recommend for those who are curious and love learning.
Easy 100%. John is well-read and insightful. His style mainly works for self-motivated students. There are weekly informal essays of 500-1000 words based on the readings and a weekly quiz. You can submit essays whenever and however many times. His class can help you learn a lot of life lessons and boost your R-score if you put in the work.
Took him for Pursuit of Happiness. Gives weekly quiz and assignment on topic of the week. Fascinating lectures and topics. Easy 90%+ if you put effort into your work. If not, it can be hard to keep up with the workload of this class. Lets you submit your assignments late and resubmit them without any limits, while telling you what to do better.
Had him for pursuit of happiness. The class is basically one 500-1000 word "essay" (done at home) every week. He doesn't want anything structured or well written. Write your thoughts on the topic with some personal examples and he'll love it. He gives no late penalties which is nice, just don't leave all your essays to the end as they can pile up.
500-1000 word essays each week but he will let you revise and resubmit for a better grade without a due date. You can submit whenever u want. You can easily get 100% on them. Long lectures and quiz each week. I didn't show up for class unless there was a quiz and did good. There are articles to read for the essays and quizzes. Take him, easy grade.
I got 97 in his class, and yes, there is a lot of writing, but if you are not into writing in the first place, don't take it. I would definitely take it again. He's kind, has decently interesting lectures, and you can hand in your essays whenever you want since there are no due dates
I took Love and Friendship with him and this was the best humanity class I took in my 2 years of cegep at Abbott. His lectures are interesting and fun if people in the class participate. Sure, a lot of what he says are his own opinions, but he also wants us to share and expand on our own opinions about the topics he brings. I would recommend him!
I took "Pursuit of Happiness" with John, and his class was truly brilliant. Some of what we learnt has completely altered the way I think. It's easy to do well in his class as long as you keep up with the readings and show up. His lectures are fascinating and get you thinking. He's also very open to what others have to say. Strongly recommend
John Faithful Hamer was the best teacher I had. Each class there would be a quiz on the chapter you had to read a home (they were very easy), he would discuss the chapter we read and then we would have a quick assignment at the end of each class. His lectures are very interesting and he is very funny with them.
You read about a chapter for each class, then do a T or F quiz at the beginning of class then a small assignment at the end of class, so the only homework is reading. He is super fun and caring and classes are always interesting. He even posted the midterm and final exam questions ahead of time so we can plan. Def recommend!
Would def take again
He changed up the planning this year and it was so simple. 10 question T or F at the beginning of each class and a little writing at the end. Class was around 30-45 minutes. We had 2 essays in the whole semester. I would highly recommend him if you are someone who will show up to class everytime. If not you have to go to office hours and make it up
Great teacher with a great course outline. Quiz every class, not too hard (depending on the difficulty of the book). There is also a paper to write at the end of each class. Easy grades as long as you fill up your page. Read the assigned chapters and you will do well in John's classes.
Hands down my favourite class. We basically had to read ~10-15 pages per class, on which we did a True/False quiz and a journal. Very easy to get 100. The lectures are very interesting and often touch on philosophy and society. Very kind, wise, caring and funny teacher. Very helpful and is open to giving personal advice. Definitely take this class
Best humanities teacher! Loved every class which were never boring. Would definitely want to have this teacher in the future!
This class was one of my favourite. You will read a lot of pages for homework since you need to do a true or false quiz at the start of class and a end of class assignment around a page long about the pages you read and the lecture he just did. It was also very accessible to retake the quiz and assignment by going to his office hours.
Fun lectures, covered a lot of interesting topics. Homework was to read a chapter or part of one, class starts with a quiz on it, and ends with a short writing assignment on a question/ idea from the lecture. Very kind and engaging teacher.
The readings are from books, about 1-2 chapters for homework. 10 questions of a true or false quiz at the start of each class. Then, at the end of class you have a in class writing (1page). If you miss class it is very easy to get in contact with him and make up for the missed work. His lectures make it very easy when writing the end of class work.
The first teacher that I genuinely liked as a person and his course content. His lectures were insightful and relatable. You'll be asked to read a chapter for the next class, doing so guarantees you a good grade on the quiz he gives the next class. At the end of each class write about 1 page corresponding to a prompt he shares with the class. 10/10
he was amazing!I never had a teacher like him before.when i say get ready to read, it is because at the beginning of every class you will have 10 true or false questions to answer about a chapter that you had to read that he assigned throughout the semester and you will have those true or false every class but it is super easy.
Never met a teacher more caring. Just do the readings and write a page length of your opinion on a topic and you should be good. He allows make up work for missing class without deducting marks and made sure his students were not negatively affected by the strikes.
Absolute favorite teacher in my three years at this school. His class is only discussion, usually pertaining do your *daily* reading, but its always super interesting and he remains constantly engaging and fun. If you dont understand a topic or need more help hes more than willing to give you as much time/help as you need. A++ teacher all around
Seriously, this teacher is the GOAT. The only humanities class where we talk about more about ourselves and how to improve our lives. There is a lot to read but the beginning of class quizzes are fairly easy ( except for the 3rd book lol). End of class assignments are graded very fairly and M. Hamer genuinely seems interested to read what we wrote.
John is simply an amazing teacher. His class is based on the reading of interesting books where you have to read around 20 pages for each class. Then, you will have an easy little quiz based on that chapter and an end of class assignement where you discuss reading. John is open to any thought you discuss in the end of class assignment.
JUsT a amazing person passionate about his class and its content. Caring and very understanding you should take him if you can.
i had john for the class Pursuit Of Happiness, when i entered the class and listened to the lectures and did the work, i was so happy i joined. He is incredibly understanding and even shares stories from his personal life to help you understand him. I was so upset i couldn't get him again. i 100% recommend trying out his class you will not regret.
I took the Pursuit of Happiness and it was honestly a great class. He does true or false quizzes at the beginning of every class, then talks about the books we read, and then gives us an assignment due at the end of the class. The midterm and final were pretty easy, I wouldn't stress about it too much. Overall a great teacher.
I took John for The Pursuit of Happiness. Very understanding and easy man. The only work you do are reading a book at home, doing a quiz about the chapter(s) you read (true or false) at the beginning of class and an in-class assignment at the end of class.
Very fun and light class! You need to do about 2-3 chapters of reading a week, but as long as you do that it's a super easy class. Very friendly teacher too!
He is an awesome teacher. I suggest anyone take him. The books and topics he decides to teach on are super interesting and he is super friendly. A very bubbly, happy guy. Going to his class was always enjoyable. You need to read to do well but the material is interesting so it's not bad. Has many interesting opinions to share.
Great teacher, reading is a huge part if the course but it's not that bad it's only 3-4 chapters a week so it's fair. There's a quiz every class as well as a one page end of class assignment every class. There are no papers, just a midterm and a final. Overall he's a great guy and super inspirational. Definitely taking him again.
the goat of the humanities department
Amazing. Honestly chill af teacher, missed a couple of classes and was able to make up the missed assignments for no deductions. Missed the midterm and final due to reasons out of my control and was able to hand them in late with no penalty. Classes are great, brings up different perspective and is very fun. 100% recommend
Super chill and funny guy. His pursuit of happiness class actually has very good teachings, and all you need to do is read the chapters and show up and you can go pretty far without even paying attention (because he doesn't mind). He has a true/false quiz and written assignment every class. For midterms and finals they're basically a bigger essay.
There is a quiz every class on a few chapters of a book you need to read and then an assignment at the end on those same chapters. The midterm and final were basically just a longer end-of-class assignment. The lectures were fun and interesting. 100% recommend this class.
The actual best teacher you can get. but if you dont like reading or writting even tho its super interesting atleast foe the class pursuit of happiness then dont take it, cuz its 3 books and readings and a quiz every class but its easy and he is a amazing teacher
Lots of reading, true or false quizzes(10 questions)& end of class assignments(1 full page single spaced)every class. Over all really easy, only work outside the class is reading the books(3 total),only way to fail:never show up or write something irrelevant to the class(which is pretty hard because he pretty much gives you everything)
John was one of the absolute best professors I have ever had, and I hope to take another class with him. His lectures were fascinating, and he taught us as if he were our friend. The Pursuit of Happiness teaches how to live and be better, applying itself to all of life and all other classes. Thank you for helping me to grow as a person.
I genuinely could not reccomend him enough. He is lifechanging and easily the best prof I've ever had. Although it's a lot of writing, his lectures are top tier. I would genuinely do anything to have him again and there's no prof quite like him. this is the only class that's had a direct impact on my life. Thank you, John.
Very nice teacher, lots of writing and quizzes. If you don't like reading this class isn't for you. Quizzes each class 10 questions based on the book. Very easy marks if you read the book
what a fun guy. small quiz and small writing each class but its so easy (only true or false). had to buy 4 books for his class but its such a chill class. would tell you what to read for next class (around 20pages) but its interesting topics. would 100% take again and he really cares for his students.
John is the best Humanities teacher I've had at JAC. He assigns reading every class (15-30 pages) but the books are interesting and relevant. There's a 10-question T/F quiz at the start of each class and a writing assignment at the end of each class. It's super easy to get 95+ in his class as long as you read the book. Take him!!
Definitely my favourite class out of any of my classes I've ever taken, great teacher passionate and always interesting topics 100% recommend.
John is a great teacher and you'll learn many things in his class about life in general. However, be aware that you have to read for each class as there is a quiz and assignment for basically every class. But they are relatively easy. The quizzes are 10 true and false questions and the assignments are based on the reading. Great teacher overall!
I took him for Pursuit of Happiness, and if you want a really easy humanities to coast through your semester, take him. He gives a short quiz and essay every single class on a chapter of the book we were supposed to read. Gets dull after a while, but the class average was ~85% because they were so easy. He's also really easy going and lenient.
Very good teacher, super interesting lectures. Reading every class with a quiz but they are fairly easy and he does not give any other homework then that.
Though he is nice, his lectures were draining and repetitive and I found his readings to be biased and irrelevant, with some exceptions. You need to read for every class, which is ironic because he was complaining about how much work us CEGEP students need to do.. Although I like his as a person, I gained nothing from thsi course and Did not enjoy.
John is a very nice guy and teacher. I took him for love and humanities. The class itself is fairly easy to pass, John is a fair grader , and the average was 90%. But the class itself is pretty boring. You need to read 3 books, which are not very interesting, beside maybe one, then theres a quiz and a writing assignment every class.
He's the goat, nothing else needs to be said. Really going to miss this prof :)
Great guy, decent teacher. a humanities class you're FORCED to attend every single week, you have quizzes worth 2% every class. On top of that one of the quizzes is beginning of class, one at end so don't think about leaving early. Lectures are very very dragged out and far from engaging. Easy marks though, can't fail this class if you just show up.
His class is simple, he's really entertaining, and the only homework is a chapter of reading each class. Every class, he gives a true or false quiz on the reading, and has you write a single spaced page of your thoughts on the covered concepts. I highly recommend taking his class! If you're decently good at reading and writing, you'll do well.
Although there is a considerable amount of reading material for this class, Mr Hamer chose topics that were engaging and addressed current issues we often hear online but rarely explore. His assigned homework and classwork assignments were consistent but mindful of students schedule outside of class. He was a joy to have as a teacher
His class pursuit of happiness is probably the best class I've taken. The books read are actually interesting and he made the subject way more interesting then it already is.
Definetly the best humanties teacher I've ever had. Also just genuinely a kind, wholesome individual. John Faithful indeed is faithful, love you John!
Learn valuable life lessons in this class.
He is a very caring teacher! And very funny. Despite his lectures being sometimes long and boring, he makes it as fun as he can by saying funny stories. You will have to read the books to keep up, there is a very easy true or false quiz at the beginning of each class, and an end of class assignment (again easy) usually the class ends early too
John is my fav teacher at Abbott I took his pursuit of happiness and love and friendship class. Very easy quizzes at the beginning of each class you have to read the chapters. The books and content of his courses are very interesting and he's such a sweet heart. Missing class is not a big deal be sure to make up what you miss or else you get a zero
John is a wonderful person and it has transpired well into his attitude in teaching. His classwork required readings twice a week, but I actually immersed myself easily into these books and found myself changing over the semester through this class.!He also makes you do journal writing prompts in which u can get personal.
Without a doubt BEST teacher at Abbott. The class itself was interesting, fun, and so simple if you just do the book readings he asks for (around 10 pages a week) which takes around 15 minutes to do. His tests are simple & straightforward, its easy to get 100's. As a person, John is caring, fun, lenient with missed work and there for your success.
The weekly "essays" all other reviews complain about, are just your opinions written about 2-3 chapters. No structure or formalism needed. As long as you can think of ideas and fluff it up to 2 pages per class, it's easy grades. 4hrs/wk of your time (including class) If you don't have a comfortable pencil or hate reading, you're in for some pain.
This is a nice teacher for the evening classes. Help students understanding the major points of the chapter during the discussion. His way of teaching during the evening classes makes sure that your grade will depend on how many effects you are willing to spend.
one of my favourite teachers at JAC. I've him for 2 semesters and the format of his classes are the exact same. He knows we get a lot of homework so he only gives us 20 pages to read for each class. His exams and quizzes are easy as long as you do the readings. There's quizzes every class but he makes the classes so fun you always wants to go.
Super cool guy. The format of his classes are sooo nice and relaxing, only one easy quiz and free write at the end of class. He is so kind and happy and always has new things to teach his students. The readings were very insightful and interesting.
John is a caring and understanding teacher who I would take again if I could. The workload is minimal (one reading assigned before each class), and the books he assigns are fascinating. So long as you do the readings, this class is easy to do well in. If you're looking for a class that won't overwhelm you with work, you should definitely take him.
There are a total of 3 books to read and he gives a quiz every single class on the readings but it's super easy. There is a lot of reading and writing required for the course but it's nothing too demanding and he is a really easy grader.
You actually learn valuable lessons in this class, it was by far my favorite class I've ever taken at JAC. super easy class as long as you show up and read (20 pages a class) you will pass no problem. He is really so happy to teach and so passionate about what he says it makes going to his classes so interesting. 100% i would recommend John!
He's an amazing teacher. Take him.
Not only is John probably the best teacher at jac, he is a wonderful guy that you can talk to anything about. It should be mandatory for every student to take his class at least once because he truly is the best teacher to ever do it.
John was such a good teacher! I had him for virtues and vices which was a new class he started this semester. Honestly, the books we read were really insightful and John always has crazy stories that help us understand better. He's the best teacher I've taken at Abbott and if you can take him definitely do it! He's amazing!
Genuinely one of the best classes I've taken, such a good prof and extremely interesting readings. Take this from a science student who usually hates humanities classes, this one is not a waste of time and you actually learn relevant stuff. Take him if u can!!
Wow. I mean, John is probably the most caring, respectful, and amazing teacher I've ever had. Just read your chapters, be reasonable, and you will ace the class. John has taught me so many things through his book selection, which really enlightened me in certain things I usually ignore. Take him. Take him. Take him. Take him. Take him. Take him.
john is probably the best teacher i've had at abbott. I took him last year for his Pursuit of Happiness class and took him again for Virtues & Vices because of how much i adored him and his class. If you get the chance to take him, do it because he's hilarious and such a caring guy! Very easy classes to pass too.
John is an amazing teacher! I have taken him for two semesters, and his class helped enlighten the world around me. For every class, you have to read a few pages and then are required to do a short quiz and write a reflection. This class is not difficult as long as you do the readings and listen in class. Take him!!
He talks a lot so get ready to listen
If you have the opportunity to take him, do so and highly recommend
John is an amazing TEACHER!! I took his pursuit of happiness humanities class and he is so incredibly inspiring. His positivity made me eager to go to every single class. Each class you have one 10 questions true or false quiz and an assignment but it is so easy to do well. All of his lectures are genuinely so engaging and interesting!!!
if you ever have the chance to take John i totally recommend. he cares about his students and makes the class so enjoyable he's honestly such an amazing guy i loved his class so much. yes there's quick quizzes and written work due every class based on the readings but if you read them you'll do amazing. ps the books he chooses are actually so good!
It is admirable how he can capture the attention of everyone in the class. He is the type of guy you want to listen to for hours. Also can I take a moment to say he looks just like Jack Black. No one has mentioned this but I feel it is crucial information.
really easy going and entertaining, he made the course so interesting and pleasant
Very entertaining lectures. Lots of short amounts of reading, but grades quizzes assignments fairly.
John is seriously a gem of a teacher. He has so much wisdom to teach and is filled with so much genuine empathy. His love for teaching really shines through his class. I took "The Pursuit of Happiness", and was left with a really interesting new perspective on life. Take this class!
I took his class The Pursuit of Happiness and the structure of it is really great if you have a full course load and don't mind showing up to class. You'll have to do a quiz and a one page-long writing assignment every class, and make them up if you miss class. The bonus is that there's no homework besides the readings (around 20 pages per class).
Hes so nice and my favourite teacher, but you need to do like 20 pages of reading for a true or false quiz each class
Honestly great guy. Take him i beg you. You can tell that he actually cares for his students and wants them to succeed. I honestly i'm not the best reader and but i found the books fine and the quizzes and test were easy. It's impossible to do bad, he actually tries to make u succeed as much as possible. His classes were interesting. BEST TEACHERR
the BEST HUMANITIES TEACHER you can take. The 3 books that we read in his class "Pursuit of Happiness" made me view mylife with a whole new perspective (and thats not even an exageration). He's such a kind guy and ranting to him in my essays made me feel seen. If you like reading, writing, and are wondering how to be happier, his class is for you!!
I had John for his Virtues and Vices class. Despite having a quiz and a 1-page writing assignment every class, they were worth little and so it's very little stress - plus it's easy to get a good mark assuming you did the reading and can think about what your read and your own experiences. 2 easy "midterms" and 3 easy "finals", each about 2 pages.
Probably one of the best teachers at JAC. It's literally impossible to do bad, and his lectures are very engaging even if its just him ranting. It's a pretty loaded course (3 books, 1 quiz and 1 entry each class per chapter), but perfect if you're a chronic oversharer. You can easily retake them at his office hours, John is super understanding.
amazing teacher!!!
John is so caring and he's really serious about student mental health. His lectures are really great and there are easy quizzes and assignments each class. The reading was sometimes boring but not too bad overall. He's a very easy grader so it's not hard to get over 90 in his class. Also lets us out pretty early which is a plus. Really recommend!
John is the nicest person I've ever met. He is so patient, caring, normal, and engaging. If you just do your work you'll get a good grade. I feel he really improved my life
There is a special place in heaven for folks like John. He is by far one of the most inspirational, caring and amazing individuals I have ever met. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you take him. He man has a PhD from Johns Hopkins and is genuinely an incredible person. Even post-graduation, we still keep in touch regularly. I love him, and so will you.
John is my favourite teacher that I've had at Abbott. His class is so insightful and the readings (3 books) are very interesting as well. Assignments and quizzes every class but if you did the readings they are easy. He's one of those teachers that you'll remember your whole life. Try to take him if you can!
One of the best teachers I took this semester. We had to show up each lecture for our quizzes, but they were super easy and in most of our essays we can talk about our personal experiences which makes them easy. Lectures are fun, he talks about his experiences and he's a funny teacher. Definitely recommend him.
John is honestly the best professor I have ever had. Throughout the semester, we read 3 books, none of which felt like obligations, and all of them provided amazing insights. His lectures were just as engaging and full of perspective. Quizzes and assignments were easy if you did the reading. John really is amazing and I highly recommend his class.
I love John! He's so sweet and understanding! There are readings to be done at home as well as quizzes and writing assignments every class but it's nothing very heavy. You won't regret taking his class he's honestly one of the best teachers in jac.
Apart from the little quiz and 1 page assignment each class, it was pretty enjoyable. I personally learnt a lot. Super easy to get a good mark.
Every class is the same 10 true or false question quiz he'll talk for 30 min and then you write an assignment and you leave like 30 min early. Very passionate about why he talks about and reading is very interesting
Such an easy class, books he assigns are actually interesting to read, always lets you out early but you can't miss classes
This is the best teacher ever. If you have the opportunity to take his class, take it! His lectures are very interesting, he doesn't use a textbook, he basically talks about his personal life experiences. Just be ready to read a few books ( the books are actually good). If you attend his classes and read the books, there's no way you can fail.
John is an amazing and supportive teacher who truly cares about his students. His class was easy but also incredibly meaningful, I learned more there than in any other course. His positivity made my whole semester, and I always looked forward to his class. If you get the chance to take him, you definitely won't regret it!
John is the goat. His Pursuit of Happiness class consist of a lot of writing (an entire page) each class on a reading of 20 pages plus a quiz of 10 t/f but it's not hard if you read and take the time to understand. He is really nice, caring, inspirational. His book choices are insane. The books are really helpful and guiding. Take his class!!
John is an amazing teacher. Not only is his teaching style amazing and easy to keep up with but the topics you learn are fascinating. This was my second time taking him and once again he did not disappoint. If you want to enjoy showing up to school for a class take him!
John is one of the best teachers I've ever had. His pursuit of happiness class was very entertaining and helpful. I've read all the books he made us read and it actually helped me. He's the sweetest teacher and his personality is amazing! It might not be the best class for the Cote R but it's really worth it. Would recommend to anyone, he's awesome
Most enthusiastic teacher I've ever had. Not once was he in a bad mood, which makes him the perfect match for what he teaches. His grading criteria is very simple and as long as you put in some effort, you'll be fine. Highly Recommend!
Literally the BEST teacher ever if you can take him please do because he is hard to get (people fight for him). Same format: true or false quiz when you walk in (easy if you read), lectures for a bit(really funny guy) then end of class assignment (1 page) and you can leave when you're done. Reading is the only thing you have to do outside of class.
I could never say anything bad about John! One of the most genuine, honest, and wonderful profs I've ever had. His entire class shows how much he truly cares about everyone. The class is reading heavy with a quiz and short assignment each class, but it's so worth it. He pushes you to think differently and gain a new intellectual perspective.
Prepare for reading.
Very easy class. You will have to read 20-30 pages before each class. At the start of the class, you will have a 10 question true or false quiz and then you will have to right an entire page about the what you read. It sounds like a lot but its very easy to get 100% in both of them.
John's class was really fun and got me back into reading. would 100% take him again. Although there are a lot of quizzes (which are 10 true or false questions), the class was entertaining and informative.
He was my teacher for The Pursuit of Happiness (Winter 2024) and, in my opinion, is one of the most inspirational people you'll ever meet. Although the workload was heavy—each class had a 10-question true/false quiz with a short response, plus a midterm and final—the class was genuinely interesting. Take him if you can; you won't regret it!
Best teacher you'll ever take. Truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He's super knowledgable about all sorts of topics and it shows. Classes are super easy if you read the assigned chapters each week. There's a little quiz and writing assignment every class that are easy 90+. Took him for 2 classes and couldn't recommend more.
lots and lots of reading with a quiz every class + an assignment about the reading. they're only worth 1% each so doing bad on one of them isn't the end of the world. if you miss a class, he'll let you redo them during his office hours. lectures are very interesting and he's so sweet!! honestly one of the best teacher i've ever had.
