He was very nice, he gave lots of notes, he was always willing to help the students.
He is always helpful to all students He has an open office policy You must study for his tests
Really nice teacher, but alot of work! You will have a sore hand by the end of the lesson. Tests are extremely hard, and he admits that he gives hard tests too. He does make the class somewhat intereting. But unless you are really into history, I would recommend you take someone else.
He gives you 12 page tests. You better stop all other classes to do this one. Tests right from notes bring a tape recorder, does not slow down, very hard on grading. take more than one class dont take this one...
good teacher, but grades very hard. studied my ass of for tests and got b's. only 3 tests, but very nice, informative and clear. quizzes every week help grade. STUDY!!
HE IS REALLY A GOOD TEACHER.YOU CAN GET AN EASY GRADE IF YOU LIKE THE SUBJECT. JUST DO YOUR BEST AND IT WILL BE GREAT.
very interesting teacher, lots of notes, tests are hard if you dont study, know the names of people, qiuzzes are easy gives study sheet with quiz questions on them, cant miss class or you will be far behind on notes, open door policy and very personable if you take the time to talk with him
TERRIBLE!!!! definitely can not argue your grade. tests are so hard almost impossible.... almost everyone failed!!!! find someone else
Hard class, but the teacher is fair. You are expected to work hard for an A, but even then it's not enough. Takes points off for bad spelling. Very interesting lectures, so if you don't go just for the grade, tak his class.
love love LOVED his class. he was extremely fair. if you do your work and study its not that hard (imagine that). he is very personable and has a great open door policy. i enjoyed his lectures. yes there is a lot of note taking but it was very helpful during quizzes and tests. no need to complain :)
I took 4 classes and got B. Not THAT hard. Very helpful. Will tell you what to study for the test. Interesting classes. He shows maps, outline notes, everything from the computer to the screen. Technology, babe. You have to write down almost everything he says. Study the notes and chapters' summary.
One of the best teachers at GPC. he gives a lot of notes, his lecture is very interesting you would not want to miss a class in his class i made A in his class
Mr. Farris was one of the best teachers I have had at GPC. He was extremely helpful and gives you great study guides for the tests and quiz's. I recommend taking him for anything he teaches.
Quiz given every week that you can make a 100 on. Test are lengthy and at times difficult, but if you do the review and read the materials you will be fine. Paper is a breeze also.
Great teacher. Made history really interesting. You HAVE to take detailed notes, but he gives good study guidelines. Lots of extra credit opportunities. If you can show up and take notes, you should make an A.
This teacher is now at Georgia Perimeter College. Nice teacher. Gives lots of notes and tests can be somewhat difficult.
Lecture from powerpoint everyday. Big tests taht you have to study for. Nice and straightforward guy. Good lecture teacher but some students fall asleep daily. I recommend him.
Nice guy, he's pretty hard but all you have to do is pay attention to his lectures and read the book. He's good. He wants you to learn
I'm a Dean's List student and this guy was HARD! He doesn't test entirely on the material in the lectures, he didn't know the answers to questions I asked in class and he grades fiercely on grammar even when his is bloody terrible. (doesn't know the difference between "effect" and "affect," for example.) Total dufus, don't take the class.
Mr. Farris is an excellent teacher, but you will need to study in the class. It's lecture intensive, so be prepared to take lots of notes. His quizzes are cake, but the tests are no joke. If you underestimate these tests, you will fail this class. He's passionate about what he teaches, and concerned with student progress. Highly reccomended.
Very mixed feelings. He expects a lot out of students. Gives lots of notes in class and tests on material not covered in class, too. Study guides helpful. Writing assignment instructions not clear. If you are a liberal arts student, I recommend him - you should learn a lot. If not, you'll put in a lot of effort for something you'll never use again.
I thought this prof. is easy, so I end up taking this class for spring 2006. His lectures are helpful, but his tests are difficult. They are not tricky, but students have to remember a lot!!! Plus, he is crazy about spelling problem when he made few mistakes himself!
This class is too easy!! I got an easy A. Be prepared to take lots of notes and make sure to look at study guides. Quizzes are a breeze but tests are extensive though not hard. Just make sure you take good notes and read what he tells you to read.
7 quizzes & 4 exams for the semester (including the final). Exams contain MC & short answers. One required paper. Most exam questions are based on the notes, watched many videos, dry sense of humor. Provides study guides for the tests, boring lecture. As long as you study the notes, quizzes, and the study guides, you should do fine
Mr. Farris is a very friendly, knowledgeable professor. I will try to enroll in future classes of his.
excellent teacher! note taking is VERY essential throughout this course. many of the test questions come from the notes and reading the book is also required. his teacher style is great, yet challenging when it comes to tests. take him if your interested in history! but if your taking this class b/c it is required, take another teacher b/c he is ha
HARD! Don't take him because u think he's easy. All u do is take are notes. Tests are HARD, due to all the material u need to know.
Mr. Farris is a great teacher! do not take him if you are looking for an easy A, but if you want to learn i highly recommend taking his class. His class includes 7 quizes (easy), 3 test (not easy but he provides studyguides), and 1 paper ( he is fair in the grading). i really appriciated his pation for teaching!
This class was very hard, but if you put in the time than you are guaranteed a good grade. The quizes are very easy, he gives you the questions before, to study and then take the quiz. The tests are very hard, but he gives a review which all you have to do is memorize, so if you have time to memorize then take this professor.
Mr.Farris is such a great teacher!!! I loved his class! His quizes are so easy. He never gives anything that you dont go over in the class. I love the way he teaches. In fact, it is the only class I enjoy. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Mr. Farris is the best professr at Dunwoody Campus yaaal! Take him for any history he teachers, if u wanna LEARN.
Very easy teacher. Takes detailed notes in class and study them and you should be fine. His quizes are really really easy but his tests are really hard. He gives weekly readings but you don't really have to do them. His term paper is easy and short (3 to 5 pages) I'm taking him again next semester.
he's a great teacher!! makes history interesting and not boring..his quizzes are easy! and so are his test just as long as u study using the study sheets he gives you!..HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! my fav. teacher at gpc so far!
Soon to be Doctor Farris is a great history teacher. He makes the class really interesting and the students really want to be in the class. He uses movie clips, images, maps and other visuals to make the class very interesting. The tests are easy because they are straight from the notes, if you memorize the notes, you are gauranteed an A+..
He is a great teacher. History has never been so interesting before. Seriously study for the tests, and you'll be fine. Don't take this class if you're not interested in learning, because you definitely will.
Great teacher. Just study for his tests and follow the instructions for the paper and you're guaranteed a good grade.
I LOVE Professor Farris. He has so much knowledge that his classes are so easy to understand. He gave out 1 short term paper, 7 easy quizes, and 3 (including the final) all-mutilple-choice tests. If you miss only one class, he gives you 5 extra points to your final grade. I highly recommend him.
Can not say enough good things about this teacher. Very fair, very interesting. I learned a lot and have never retained so much information. You take a lot of notes in class but if you study your notes you should get an A. Do not be late for class he hates that. He will add 5 points to your grade for perfect attendance. Awesome history class.
Great guy! Very interesting class and lectures. Interacts well with students, easy quizzes and tests if you take good note, listen, and show up every class on-time. Final paper can be tough, but he will help you with it if you ask. Highly recommended!
He is a really great professor and to get an A, just make sure you go to every class and take as much notes as you can. Visit his website to get study sheets for tests and quizzes. Everything is on the study sheets. One Paper to write.
I enjoyed Mr. Farris so much that i worked my next semester's schedule around his class, TAKE NOTES!!! aside from that, study for tests and show up to class and you will get an A
The best history teacher at GPC. Take his class, you will learn a lot and you will not be sorry. I have had 3 other History teachers at GPC and he is the best. Work your schedule to take his class.
He is the definition of a teacher!!! Thank you, Dr.Farris!
Farris is great. Be at class every day and take all the notes, especially what he talks about and dosent write down and you will make an A. He gives a research paper for every semester and its really easy as long as you follow his guidelines. I would take again anyday!
Prof. Farris is great. He tells history like he lived it. Don't mind his signature hand-held microphone, you'll get used to it. Easy and you learn a lot: the best of both worlds. Whatever reason you're taking a history class, take this one. Period.
Dr. Farris has a passion for History and teaching that tops all other professor's at GPC thus far. Go to class, if you pay attention and review his notes you will get an A. I hope to get to take him again, he is funny and keeps it very interesting!
Very interesting and great professor. He will put his quizzes online a week before the quiz. Test come exactly from the notes. Highly reccomended
The best teacher ever. Take his class. If you go to class everyday and pay attention, then you'll get an A. Take this class if you want to get A.
Professor Farris awards you 5 points to your grade if you don't miss a class. Overall, I enjoyed him as a teacher. He is quite boring with the lectures, and has a ridiculous microphone that doesn't work, but other than that I would recommend him to anyone. Shouldn't be too difficult to pull of an A, I was pretty lazy, and I got a B.
Almost Dr. Farris is the best professor I have ever had thus far. He has a passion, explains well and wants you to do well. He uses a microphone wich I believe is a good tool. It realy gets you to listen. Go to every class take a lot of notes and study the notes and you will learn a lot and do well. At first you may think he treats you like hi
Take this class if you want A. The best teacher ever. I wasn't very good at history, but after taking this class, I got an A. Take notes and go to class everyday, you'll get an easy A.
Pretty good professor and very easy to understand. My only problem was that he wouldn't let me make up a test when I had to leave town for personal reasons. Other than that, he offers a lot of extra credit and is willing to help. I ended up with a B in the class, and I've never been good at history.
best history teacher hands down!the tests are a little challenging but if you pay attention you will get an A for sure! TAKE NOTES! Show him that you are committed and he will help u get an A! DEFINATELY RECOMMENDED
Mr. Farris is the best teacher. He cares about history, and tries to help you care too. He gives you easy EC, just show up and take notes. He gives you the questions for the quizes and if you do his work, and show you try, you can get an easy A
He is awesome. Very enthusiastic about the subject. He is willing to help you with anything and always answers questions.
His tests are hard but the quizzes are super easy. He is really passionate about what he teaches and he is always prepared for class.
Mr. Farris is a REAL teacher. He's interesting too but some parts of history I don't think ANYONE can make interesting. I have YET to read the book and I'm making a B...Then again, I also don't study for the tests or quizzes. But I'm taking 15 hours. I needed this easy class. He's really cool.
Great teacher, very enthusiastic about subject. Super nice guy. He is very organized and clear on his instructions for assignments. His tests are hard so you have to study. Quizzes are very easy. Very willing to help if you need it and loves visitors during office hours! If you want to learn and have a good teacher, take Professor Farris
OMG! Where do I begin???? Mr. Farris is the best teacher in the world...in fact, if you DON'T take advantage of the opportunity to learn from him--you're CRAZY! His quizzes are waaay easy, tests are fairly easy too--make sure you study, though. As a matter of fact, if you take good notes YOU WILL NOT NEED THE BOOK! If I were you--I wouldn't buy it.
This guy is a really good teacher. You will need both books- espcially the Asher book for easy extra credit. You will learn a lot from him. He'll make you work for the good grade, but he is totally fair about it (extra credit if you dont miss any classes too).
Mr. Farris is an awesome teacher! He is very energetic and keeps class fun. He is smart and knows what he is talking about. The quizzes in his class are extremely easy and so are the tests if you study for them and take good notes. Mr. Farris is also very helpful and will help students with anything. I hope i can take another class with him.
John ferris is the real deal, if your serious about history and really want to know the facts. This is the instructor you need, very accommadating. You must play be the rules, he's very serious about history and expects you to be the same. I f you don't mind learning the right way Mr. ferris is the person you want teaching you.
I had him Spring 2008 - His class stuck to the syllabus and as long as you took good notes and did the reading, you'll have no problem getting an A. Make sure you follow his instructions for the final TO THE "T", thats the only reason i didn't get an A.
I really enjoy history myself so I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this class. Farris is a wonderful teacher and knows his stuff. He makes class fun and if you go to class and take notes then you have no excuse not to make an A. Also note, if you do not miss a class you can have 5 points added to your final grade! A+ teacher!!
Professor Farris always had the same teaching style. Everyday it was a lecture with powerpoint. Overall, his lectures are pretty interesting bc he is passionate on subject. Quizzes are extremely easy if you take notes and use study guides. Test, on the other hand, were extremely hard as well as assigned paper! Very nice, helpful guy though.
I have nothing but good things to say. I wasnt really excited to take another history(i took honors world in high school&AP)but this was really a great class. Even though i learned it all before it was interesting and he was so helpful!i really enjoyed the class and i got an A! the work wasnt hard and its all in the book, test &quizzes are easy too.
This guy is hilarious, such a character. Very important to attend class EVERYDAY as he offers 5pts to your overall grade and his tests/quizzes are based of off his lectures. Take spectacular notes! Quizzes are super easy, STUDY for your TESTS - they can be a bit much. Otherwise awesome class! TAKE THIS GUY!
The quizzes were easy but the tests are not! You really have to study and memorize a lot of terms and people! Must read the book too so that you can get a better understanding. Mr. Farris is always willing to help you if you just ask him. Good professor who prepares you for universities, you just have to study hard! I
His quizes are super easy, but tests are hard. This is the class that i had a REALLY hard time trying to stay awake. He talks nonstop until the class exactly ends and you have to take A LOT of notes...
Love Professor Farris! I took him for U.S. II and then again for World History. I've always loved history, but it wasn't until taking his class that I decided that I wanted to major in it. He reminded me of how interesting and fun it is! Show up every day and take really good notes. His quizzes are easy, but tests can be tricky. He's super nice!
What a fantastic teacher! I took him for honors class and I am really impressed at how interesting he made history. He is by far one of the most intriguing lectureres I have encountered. 3 Tests, 1 Paper, and the final- all are really easy if u study and follow directions especially because he gives out clear notes, powerpoints, and study guides
very nice person. he is always willing to help you out. he is also good to talk to if you are having any other problems with school. knows his subject very well and teaches it very well to. i strongly recommend him!
Professor Farris is my favorite instructor @ GPC. I took him for all 4 of my required history courses and finished with 4 A's. He has a great sense of humor, very charismatic and absolutely loves history. Take good notes, his tests are challenging but all the test questions come directly from his lectures. Farris is excellent!!
Best professor I have had at GPC. Passionate, lectures are wonderful--he not only lectures, he performs! Take copious notes--95% of quiz and test questions come from notes. Really cares about the students learning the material. Offers extra help. TAKE HIM!!!
Prof. Farris is a decent teacher, but he seems to teach in sentence fragments. Hard to understand his points sometimes. You have to take lots of notes and read the assigned chapters, or else your tests won't go very well. He does care a lot about his students' success, though. 3 tests, 1 paper, and 6 quizzes.
Hi, if u already registered his class, I will suggest you to drop it. If you did not take his class yet, than you are lucky which I wasn't. He has 6 quizzes, 3 test 1 final and 1 research paper. First quiz easy but other will be worst quiz you have ever taken. Although I get B, but I know how much I tried, so I failed other classes:(
He definitely knows history front and back. He makes class interesting and he's a funny guy. His lectures are on PP and the quizzes are super easy if you use the study guide. But the test will be slightly hard if you don't study. Write good notes! He's a very understanding prof and I would def recommend him to anyone! You need the book.
Mr.Farris is an awesome teacher. He really wants you to know history as well as he does. This class is not the easiest class you really have to work hard to get an A. If you are struggling he will help you with no problem. I would reccomend him to everyone. Best teacher at GPC by far!!! :)
I highly recommend Professor Farris. I took him for two HIST courses. An 'A' is absolutely possible with reasonable effort. Work load is appropriate for the course: 6 quizzes, 3 tests, 1 writing assignment (~3 pages), and a final; usually offers extra credit. Awesome teacher and historian; knows his craft!
To update you, it's hard/good class. I took Mr. Farris at GPC(Dunwdy) and he was a great history teacher!! You will NOT learn the material without READING THE BOOK. If it weren't for MR. Farris teaching me to rewrite my own notes and writing notes in class, I WOULD NOT have learned history!! I am ready for GSU because of HIM!! Take him(no regrets)!
Farris’s voice when you first hear it will blow your mind. Tons of extra credit; quizzes are cake. TESTS are no joke; but you can make an easy A if you take good notes and study; wish He added one more test for less material per test. You can tell He actually cares and wants to help his students; not many teachers are like that! Super Great Guy!
He is great teacher, you will get an A even without reading book, BUT YOU HAVE TO TAKE NOTE FROM EVERY SINGLE WORD HE IS SAYING, ATTENDANCE IS IMPORTANT AND YOU WILL GET 5 POINTS AT END. extremely nice and helpful
This is not an easy class for lazy people. You have to remember lots of things. But if you take good notes, you will be fine. Perfect attendance helps a lot, actually it's 5% of your total grade. One thing I don't like is the paper. I followed his instruction, but didn't get the good grade!
He teaches in a way that make you understand. From my perspective, the class is not easy but hey its college. I never bought the textbook and still pass the class with a 95.....His Notes are only based on definition of terms but Thank God for Wikipedia and Youtude for helping me. If you are seeking a challenge, he is the man to take.. ;)
Mr.Farris is seriously a great professor. If you are serious about your studies (andGPA) you will do great in his class. Go to his website, everything you have to do/study is right there. Also, make sure you can make it to every class and ON TIME, you get +5points on your final grade if you have perfect attendance (: He was great, THANK YOU MR.JF!!
He is the best history professor ever! Before taking his class, I hated history but now I really know the subjects. He will help you a lot. YOU HAVE TO COME TO CLASS ON TIME! If you make a habit of being late to class he will pick on you...
Mr farris is not just a teacher, he is a stand up comedian. Seriously, this man is hilarious and he made US history one of the best subjects because of his deep knowledge of the material. He vividly explains story's of the early stages of the US, it honestly felt like i was being read a novel in elementary school, that smooth and easy.
Amazing teacher and I never looked forward to attending a History class before his. I learned SO MUCH and got a 98 in his class. You will to, with little effort and plenty of paying attention during class. He is also HILARIOUS. This guy made me cry I laughed so hard. Never a dull moment.... and this is HISTORY class...
He is really enthusiastic and excited about history - particularly the American Revolution . Sometimes he is more clear than others. One really good thing is that he provides notes sheets for students which are basically the highlights of the lecture that students fill in. Those save time so you don't get behind and you can actually listen to him.
If you do not like history, do not take him. Or at least expect to read a lot. Lectures are really long and he wakes you up if he finds you asleep (or kind of gets in your face about it). Other than that he really knows a lot and is willing to help if you need it...
He definitely knows his history, you have to come to class his lectures are important, also if you have perfect attendance you get +5% added to your final grade, if taking US history you need the Asher book but not the other one, spend a few hours memorizing the study guides and you'll probably come out with an A maybe a B, not the easiest class
Great teacher! He has a loud and clear voice. His lectures are really long though! Great ready to take lots of notes! Quizzes were given about every week, and the tests were a mixture of the notes from class and reading from the textbook. Very strict on attendance, no drinking or eating in class (which is horrible at lunch time), and no cell phones
No technology allowed once class begins (hand written notes and if he sees you on your phone he will call you out), no eating, attendance is taken and if you miss more than 2 days he starts taking off your grade up to 5%, lecture is 99% of class time, quizzes are easy (memorize 10 or so terms) but tests are very detailed over the book and lectures
He is very good teacher, I was in his u.s history and world history. He's very passions and very interesting class, just be there and listen, your will get a good grade.
I have never enjoyed previous history classes and was convinced I never would. It really didn't interest me. However, Prof Farris really makes class interesting and it feels like I'm sitting in on historic story time. Very respectable and helpful. He lectures the whole class so print out his note guides on his website! EASY quizzes, hard tests.
Nahhhh dont take his class. He is a very tough grader. No cellphone. Taking notes for whole class period.
He is the most awful professor that I had , I recommend to do not take any classes , he needs to upgrade his methods and be more friendly with his students, we are not allowed to have anything to eat even a candy at class or check check our cellphones to check the time ... and a lot more , he doesnt tell you what u need to study , exams very hard
He is awful on everything Lecture. Exams. Teaching ...
DO NOT TAKE CLASS WITH HIM He dont give us lecture notes, the quizes are easy but have 10 credit from 500. The tests are realy hard and confusing.
I like him outside of class, but is a HORRIBLE professor!! He always uploads "STUDY GUIDES" two days or even the night before the test, Makes you buy BOTH textbooks just to NEVER ( only use 3 times ) use them unless doing "ASHER" questions which he wants you to write WORD FOR WORD from the textbook. Just AVIOD HIM AS A PROFESSOR AT ALL COST.
Awesome teacher! So enthusiastic and very considerate of his students personal lives! I missed class for a week and he still allowed me to take my test. His lectures are very interesting, never boring! He likes to show old videos to help us better understand the current time frame we are studying. You must pay attention during lecture to get an A!
He's a good teacher. There are 6 quiz, 3 assigments, 1 midterm, and 1 final, but they are all fairly easy. Just listen to the lecture and take note, you will be fine
Professor Faris is not a good professor. I worked my butt off in his class. He's very nonchalant and sometimes rude. I am very upset I took this class because I love history. Its my favorite subject but now with his hard grading I'm not sure if I ever did anything right. Please read his review before taking his class.
