TAKE THIS PROF! John makes this class so much fun! I dreaded having to take math, but he made it so bearable. He actually cares about you learning the material. Gives you partial credit if he can see that you knew what you were doing in your work. Such a nice guy and willing to work with you outside of class. Best Prof I have ever had at this Uni.

If you took algebra and pre-calc you will have seen everything in this course, but nonetheless it is demanding but doable. There are 3 tests, a final, and weekly video quizzes and online homework. Professor Fisk is outstanding. He really cares about his students and explains things very well. Utilize his in person office hours and he will help you

Professor Fisk really cares about his students and how they are doing. He has over 1,000 students and it's amazing to me that he learns everyones names. Although this course can be challenging, if you pay attention in class and utilize his office hours you should be okay. He drops your lowest grade on a lot of assignments.

For just being hired this semester, Mr. Fisk was an amazing professor. He was very understanding when I had COVID and was unable to do my work. Super nice and fun guy! I enjoyed going to lecture even though I'm not a big fan of math. Going to class definitely will increase your grade. Tests are pretty straight forward! Great prof!

TAKE MR FISK! He is so caring about his students, learns their names, and interacts with them on a personal level. When I was sick, he made sure that I took care of my health first, and school second. Reach out to him for help, and he will always help you! I would definitely take him again!!

Originally, I was nervous about having him as my math teacher as he was a new teacher to the A&M system. However, now I am glad to have taken him. He makes the class enjoyable fun, easy to learn, and cares for his students. There are 3 tests, final, and online homework but they are easy. If you can't do algebra 2, then you're screwed.

He truly cares about the students, hes funny and does his best to make sure you understand. He prepares you for exams so pay attention in class. John Fisk is amazing. The practice exams are pretty much the same as the actual exams. His lectures are pretty fun. He's a great, down to earth guy. Records all lectures, but attendance is taken on iClicker (is a grade). Office hours are great, overall a great class. You will have an easy A if you are good at Algebra I and if you're ahead. 4/10 dif

John Fisk is truly one of the best professors you can get. I dont like math, but this course was amazing. You get the grade you deserve, and you definitely have to put in work, but it isnt too rigorous in all honesty. If you can register for his course, you absolutely should. On top of his great teaching style, he is hilarious and caring. 10/10!

Great professor, explained concepts well, very accessible outside of class and helps with any homework questions, not too much homework very doable, tests are exactly like what he tells you they will be and offers a lot of resources except that he grades pretty harshly on the free response.

I thought the course was quite difficult however I'm not a strong Math person. Professor Fisk did his job in lecturing the content to us however was a little fast at times in speeding through the content, skipping certain parts for online videos with a different proof. All in all good professor with a good likable attitude. RECOMMEND.

ABSOLUTELY LOVED HIM. He is a really solid professor. I love his lecture style because he uses COLORS as he is solving a problem(very organized and clear) and that is really helpful for me. Use his office hours if you are struggling he will help you and cares. I would say the workload is decent for a math course, HW-10 questions get 3 tries!5 STARS

Professor Fisk was the first math teacher I've had in years that made math easy. As someone who has always struggled to understand math as fast as others, I felt extremely confident in this class all semester. He is very thorough, will work through a problem again if one person doesn't understand, and is super easy to communicate with. 10/10 guy

Fisk goes through lectures very fast but you'll learn the material well. Also posts lectures online. A solid choice. The hardest part of this class is the coding which is inevitable.

Professor Fisk is a wonderful professor. Calculus is not one of my favorite or strongest subjects, but Professor Fisk made it a lot more tolerable. He explains concepts very well, and works in multiple colors, which I love. He posts the note templates online, so you can print them out or write on them digitally. Very caring guy, too.

By far the best professor I ever had. He genuinely cares about his students and their success. His lectures were helpful, but I cannot stress enough how important it is to go to class. If he is available, take him in a heartbeat. I never imagined preforming as well as I did in my first college math class, he was a huge part of my success.

He is an amazing lecturer that teaches the concepts phenomenally and makes sure you know the reason why before introducing any formulas. I don't think that any other calculus professor would contribute to my success in learning the class and doing as well as I am currently. If you have the option to take him I 100% would, wish he was teaching 152.

retaking this class, and Mr Fisk is much better than my previous prof. if you are not the best at algebra take him! he reexplains algebra concepts along with teaching the calculus, so you dont fall behind trying to reteach your self algebra. he is also super cool, his office hours are great, and just a good guy. 10/10 recommend.

Great personality, values students who come to class and put in the effort, accessible and willing to explain any questions you have, classes are a bit rushed but he posts lecture videos and completed notes (although they may take a while at times to appear on Canvas). Highly recommend going to his office hours & Alexandra Foran's!!!

Mr. Fisk is the best math instructor I've ever had! If you struggle with math take his class! He makes it all make sense, and has fun in the process. Office hours were also a lifesaver, a lot of the times stuff would just click. He is so genuine and treats you like a person, I have so much respect for Mr. Fisk.

The best math teacher/professor I have ever had! The class content got difficult at times but Fisk really was there to help out. I went to office hours a bunch and that helped a ton because he had more time to tone down on topics. 100% recommend!!

Professor Fisk's online 5-week MATH140 course was very easy. I found his class very boring and a drag at times, but he made it really easy to understand what he was saying and his notes were very organized and efficient. I think that he does a good job teaching this course, and it's very doable to receive an A if you put in the work.

I failed this class and still loved Fisk. Made sitting through lecture actually bearable and I feel he was very knowledgeable in what he teaches, making him that much better as a prof. Wish I could have him again, he's very good about explaining to students math in a different way than other profs.

JOHN FISK WAS GREAT! He was my first math professor at TAMU and he made me love math! Anytime I didn't understand anything, I would jump onto his office hours and he always cleared up my questions. He truly cares about his students and you can tell he's passionate about what he's teaching. Would take his class again if I could!

Mr. Fisk (Calc 142) obviously cares about the students and what he teaches. GO TO OFFICE HOURS! He is very clear and down to earth. He is probably one of the best teachers at Texas A&M. He is very clear about what he expects on the tests and offers multiple reviews. If you have to take a math, take his class!!

I have Professor Fisk for Math 142 and he is a great instructor and teaches complex concepts in a simple way! He constantly tries to convey the material in the easiest way possible and is straight forward about what you need to do to succeed in the class. As with any class, you have to put in the work to be successful!

I have never been more excited to go to class than when I had Professor Fisk. He makes lectures engaging and generally interesting and does a great job at preparing you for the exams and walking through strategies for different types of problems. Friday afternoon lecture was tough but I was always ready to go because he made class that enjoyable.

Overall Fisk is not a bad guy but he skips over things that you should know . His exams only have 15 questions or so. Half and half of multiple choice and work out problems. The math department is material heavy either way but he is not my favorite math prof

Professor Fisk is the best maths professor I have ever taken a course with. He is engaging and his curriculum is very organized. Parts of his course will not be covered in his class, so I do recommend watching the video lectures he posts as well as his own videos covering important topics.

Great teacher. He knows exactly what he's doing and knows exactly how to explain problems. He's a funny professor but a serious one. I highly recommend him if you don't know what you're getting into with Math. His feedback is very helpful and would totally take a course by him again.

I loved Mr.Fisk this semester in Math 140. He truly explained and interpreted everything so well and cared so much about his students. I chose to take him for Math 142 next semester because he showed me how to be successful. If you can, pick him for Math 140, or get stuck with the other teachers that I don't hear good things about.

Amazing prof! Explains material thoroughly and helps students immensely if struggling (office hours, WIR). Final grade consists of daily iClickers, video quizzes, Cengage homework, weekly group quizzes, and exams + final which replaces lowest exam. Very doable and easy to pass if you do the homework and go to class! (funny guy too so lecture is A+)

By far the best professor I had the entire semester. Lectures were great and everything taught was seen on the exams. Office hours are great and he is extremely helpful. Make sure to communicate with him as he is pretty strict on what he says and doesn't leave a lot of room for nudging. Stay for lecture and make sure to show up Fridays!

I think Dr Fisk is GREAT! Math is a difficult subject for lots of people to learn, but Dr. Fisk does a great job! And he makes himself SO available! He gives way more office hours than he is required to and gives his all for every session! I had to go to most of his office hours, but they were fun and personal. He really cares about us!

Prof Fisk made calculus a lot less confusing when he was teaching it. He does take iclicker attendance almost every day, but on Friday's there are group quizzes. Overall, I do not regret taking this class! He is a great professor!

An amazing professor who will always make sure you understand the concept of problems. But you need to come to class for attendance, He sometimes gives us automatically free points!

Mr. Fisk is an amazing teacher. He's very passionate about his job and gives great lectures with very easy to understand notes. If your final exam grade is higher than one of your other exam grades, it'll replace it. Two WebAssigns per week (12-16 questions each) for homework. Take good notes and go to his office hours and you'll get a high A.

10/10 guy and professor. Went out of way to learn everyone's face and name, office hours don't feel like jail, exams are 1/2 mc and 1/2 fr, group work every Friday, 3 exams + 1 final, gives a ton of help/resources, you can tell he cares about what is does and will work with you, TAKE HIM!

This class is so doable! I took AP AB Calc in high school so this class was not difficult. There are a few homeworks per week, in-class iClicker questions, group work on Fridays, and 4 tests. Mr. Fisk is personable and very approachable. The tests are straightforward and very similar to questions we did in class. I would totally take him again!!

I had Fisk for both MATH 140 and 142 and he never failed to make sure every student was comfortable in what they were learning. He's so easy to talk to and I wish I had another math class to take with him. ALSO on his exams you will only expect questions from what we have learned, as he will ask nothing too difficult on things we haven't learned.

I was terrified going into this class due to math not being my best subject, yet came out with an A+. Mr. Fisk went through chapters at a great pace and made sure students understood topics. Homework is harder than exams (Homework is not hard at all). Please take him if you can!

I took him for MATH 147. Mr. Fisk was awesome! The class itself is hard but I learned too late to use the book! It helps explain what Mr.Fisk teaches. He was a little late on emails but tried his best. Take him and pay lots of attention to class!

Math 147: Mr. Fisk's tests were very challenging, but his lectures were hilarious and entertaining. He provided extra office hours so student's could get the help they needed. He was caring, and made it a point to learn student's names. While math is my least favorite subject, Fisk made biological calculus very enjoyable and allowed me to succeed.

MATH147: you HAVE to go to lecture to know anything, idc if you've taken Calc b4, GO! Fisk tries v hard to make himself available for office hrs & feedback. Gives a lot of partial credit on FR, but tests are worth a lot and he writes them very hard. Wasnt great about uploading in class notes but overall pretty solid prof and down to earth guy.

MATH147. This is the best math teacher! He had extra office hours and was very understanding and would consider test grades if it seemed like a concept was widely missed. He was very relatable and I would recommend him to everyone. Math 147 is really hard and I would never want to be in it again but he made it bearable.

I hate math, and Fisk really made the best out of 142 curriculum. The class was hard, but if you find a good group in the beginning (don't be afraid to switch) and take advantage of office hours you will do fine. Also, the MLC is the only reason I passed, definitely go there for help.

MATH-147: I struggle with math, and Fisk was the perfect professor for me. His office hours are VERY helpful, I did my homework during them, and he will fully solve problems if you need help. He's friendly and will give feedback when grading. 3 exams + a final, homework 2-3x a week, and weekly quizzes. He does iClicker in class. HIGHLY recommend!

Mr. Fisk is probably one of the best professors that I have ever had. He is such a caring teacher, and wants every one of his students to succeed. His exams are fairly average if you practice and pay attention in class. Overall I would for sure recommend him for anybody taking 140.

Mr. Fisk is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. Granted, I am a "math guy", so this course was not challenging at all for me, as it's mostly algebra 2 and minute amount of precalculus. Show up to class, find a good group for Fridays, and study for 2 hours before every exam. That was my strategy under Fisk, Emperor of Bicycles.

A good prof who knows what he's doing. He can be a little sassy at times answering questions but it's in good humor. As much as I hate math, this class wasn't that bad. Make sure you go to class because he uses iClicker. Most of your grade comes from your semester exams so definitely study up for those.

Prof Fisk is very funny and genuinely wants students to succeed. M/W are lectures and notes and on Friday we have group work quizzes. The tests are not difficult and he gives you review materials. There is a good amount of homework, but is very doable. Go to class, take notes, and study for the exams by doing example problems and you'll get an A.

Historically my track record with math has not been the best, but I was really impressed by the organization and resources available w/ Fisk. Attendance was graded but is not a huge % of your grade & he posts completed class notes on Canvas + practice exams. The goat also drops like 6 grades at the end of the semester, and it boosted my avg 4pts :)

Mr. Fisk was the best math prof I've ever had. He is so funny and cares about helping his students understand the military. The homework is harder than the tests, so you feel prepared. His lectures are fantastic, and gives his students so many resources. TAKE HIM!!

Math has never been my subject, but Mr. Fisk helped explain in ways that really helped me understand. He drops a ton of grades at the end of the semester the final even replaces your lowest test grade if it is higher. Mr. Fisk is genuinely caring, easy to approach and very accessible. If I could write more, I would! His TA's were also amazing!

Fisk was an amazing teacher! He moves quickly in class, but he always stops to answer questions and explain the material better. Not only that, but he relates the material to real world applications so it makes more sense. He and his TA's have consistent office hours and are always extremely helpful. I would 100% take him again if I could!

Not a math person at all, but he was able to teach concepts I have continually struggled with. Group work gives you an extra chance to practice, with others able to help check for mistakes/understanding. Super easy to reach outside of class, and the TAs are as well. Class is fast-paced, but totally doable just by doing a little daily.

Fisk was an amazing professor. I had him for both 140 and 142 and received A's in both his classes. The key is to pay close attention during the lectures and practice the homework/practice exams thoroughly.

Fisk is a very knowledgeable professor who cares a lot about his class. Expect frequent in-class group assignments & iClicker questions, but the content in MATH 140 is very easy so you shouldn't have any problems.

Professor Fisk was the first math prof. that ever made sense to me. Great lectures, very personable, it was easy to talk to him and ask questions. There are group assignments every Friday, do NOT be late! Get a good group and split the work. Have half the group do the front and the other half the back. Check each other's answers and ask for help!

Dr. Fisk is a good lecturer and really cares about his students. He makes sure to try and answer everyone's questions. Quizzes were a hard but the test were super easy although he is a tough grader so make sure to take his feedback. He also lets out his lectures early a lot of the time and is pretty understanding.

Such a caring professor! He is always available and will be very honest with his students from the start. He sets his expectations from the start and gives good advice on how to succeed in his class. He posts his completed notes after class and never takes attendance. I highly recommend taking him!

For MATH 147: Fisk is such a great prof and a great guy. Study hard, this is definitely the hardest class I've taken so far as a sophomore but Fisk makes it bearable and you are very lucky to have him if you get him. His tests are brutal (especially the MCQs) so study and practice everyday. No curve is also brutal, but that is out of his control.

Works out problems in class and tests are 80% of the grade. Uses WebAssign for hw. Very energetic and helpful. Use past tests to study for the tests.

Professor Fisk was a great lecturer, I am just not great at math, so I struggled. His quizzes reflect what he wants to see on the frq of tests. Understanding the hw helps a ton. Studying past exams is the most helpful. If you struggle, go to his office hours and TA office hours.

Lowest grade I've gotten before but can't rate him poorly because he's genuinely the best math prof I have ever had. He's brilliant in the way he teaches, he wants you to succeed and work hard, he clearly shows expectations, he's funny, and writes down steps to solve problems which was a teaching style I never knew would benefit me so much.

Great professor and a great guy. explains concepts super well, and if you don't get it then go to his office hours and he'll help a ton. He's funny and makes class easier to get through. Professor Fisk is a great lecturer and explains concepts very well. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it to most office hours, but the times I could go, I found them helpful. 80% of the course grade comes from tests. (awful criteria for a math class in my opinion, but that's a true for any other section). Work through previous tests for practice!

Fisk is really sweet and has a high school teacher kind of vibe, since he used to be one. The only thing I dislike was the structure of the Python labs- they'd send assignments but wouldn't teach the material. disorganized

Gosh what a stellar guy. So much fun, his lectures are clear and easy to understand, and there's not a lot of busy work. Tuesdays were lectures days and Thursdays were group work. The exams were not bad if you actually study and pay attention and he's always willing to help out. Hilarious too, definitely one of my fav profs ever! TAKE HIM!!

Professor Fisk teaches similarly to a high school teacher (which is a great thing) and takes questions during class. He isn't uptight and has minimal homework, but you do have to really study for the tests. The group work assignments are pretty much exactly like test FRQs, so take pictures before you turn them in to study before the tests.

professor fisk is a great math teacher. he's very clear in his teaching and often checks for questions during lecture. the class isn't terribly hard (depending on how quickly you get math), but it does move quick in the concepts. the tests are very similar to his practice exams, and homework helps to gain understanding. a very nice and caring prof!

Professor Fisk was honestly the best math teacher/professor I've ever had in my entire life! He takes the time to break down each step of a math problem to make sure you understand it! Fisk was super nice and helpful at the beginning of the semester, but was so cutthroat at the end. Gave me a zero on the heaviest weighted quiz that he purposely moved to the week of thanksgiving break (not scheduled on the syllabus), and told me it was my fault for scheduling my flight home in advance. Other than that good prof who teaches well.

What a guy. Incredibly smart, almost too smart to dumb things down. He gets upset over stupid things, but it's funny to watch. Just answer his questions when he asks something. First two exams are pretty easy. Third one is pretty difficult, though. He's a cornball but I really didn't mind him that much. He provides plenty of office hours if needed.

Overall a good professor. Good guy, he cares for his students and will help you if you need it. Only thing for me is he went super fast over his lectures so it was hard for me to keep up because I am not a math genius. Use Math Learning Center to study for exams. He also uses iClicker and group work for participation points.

This class is VERY demanding, lots of homework, high expectations from Professor Fisk, but he is a very nice professor. He is definitely a tough grader, but if you need help he is always happy to help. There is group work every week which counts as a group quiz, which is also graded very harshly. Lots of video quizzes and homework.

Super great teacher, he explained everything very well. Up to you to come to class prepared with parts of notes filled out and do tiny quizzes on Canvas confirming that the notes were actually done, but that's not hard at all. Class was straightforward and when in class expects everyone to be engaged and prepared to learn.

Mr. Fisk is a very safe choice for calculus. He is easy to understand, happy to answer questions, humble, and approachable. The tests are sometimes tricky, never assume something won't be on the test. Pretty much every concept you go over will show up on a test in some way. The only notable thing is that he is very picky about notation on FRQs.

Very understandable, beautiful notes he writes + fills out and makes available for each chapter. Answers questions without judgement. Tests are not bad but I took AP Calc in high school, he does grade notation on FRQ a little tough though. Overall a cheery guy who, although I didn't interact with him much, seemed to be happy to see us students.

His lectures were sometimes fast, but doing homework assignments helped me affirm the material. Clear that he cared about his students and wanted them to succeed. Didn't really care for the "group work" assignments, but otherwise he's a good professor. Particular about notation on FRQs, unsure if that's him specifically or math 142 as a whole.

i took 151 2 sem ago but forgot to rate. i am AWFUL at math and i previously q dropped 151. i went to fisk's office hours twice a week and he was a huge help! he's extremely patient and is fantastic at lecturing and explaining topics. i learned so much from him and i definitely would've failed without him. for sure my favorite prof at tamu so far.

I already wrote a review on him bc I had him last semester for MATH 140 and I knew I needed to take him again for MATH 142 and I did because of how great of a professor he is! Had him for both Math 140 and 142. Felt like his exams were real easy if you just understands the notes. Got A's in both classes and really enjoyed him as a professor.

I thought he made hard tests, but they are just worded weirdly in comparison to the in class quizzes. My own mistakes + deciphering the questions caused me to not do too good on the first two exams, but looking back, it was definetly just me not understanding the wording and his exams are pretty fair! He also explains things pretty well in class

Dr. Fisk is a friendly guy who is truthful but reasonable. I recommend being in class every day and finding a consistent group for the whole semester! It helps your grade significantly. I also recommend attending the office hours. Since there are many students in his class, it is a good chance to get more small-scale help on the classwork.

I was so close to Q dropping this class, I am very glad I didn't. Fisk is a really nice guy, but you have to work for your grade. He's an amazing teacher, but his exams are much harder compared to the others and his grading is SO strict. Take him if you actually want to learn. Go to his office hours!!! This class is hard but of you try you will do good! I was hoping for a "C" in the class but ended with an "A" because of Mr. Fisk!! Great guy you should take him, just put in the work!!

Fisk is a good professor. BUT. If you want to pass his class, you MUST study. This is not a BS class. His office hours are truly so helpful. I made a 25 on my first exam, took it as a wake up call and locked in for the rest of my semester and my final replaced my lowest grade. I went from failing to a B+!! It is possible, good luck!

He's very funny and keeps you engaged during the lectures. He has office hours multiple times a week and they're very helpful. There is a lot of homework but all of it is good practice for the tests. The tests are worth a huge portion of your grade, so score as high as you can or you might cook yourself.
