Okay professor. He tries to accounting interesting.
he does not explain the material well and expects you to learn it on your own!! horrible teacher...
Excellent teacher. If you read the chapters and do the assigned homework BEFORE class, then you should do well. He's a very kind and considerate person. If you need help or advice,he will do everything he can to point you in the right direction.
AC 210 is a pretty boring class but he tries to make it interesting. He is a good teacher and pretty funny. You can miss 5 times without it affecting your grade.
Hated this class
Very arrogant and does not explain information clearly at all. I am graduating a semester late because I refuse to take another class from him.
Had for on online class for ACC 210, work was easy.
Stay away!! Not only is he horrible at relating the material to students, but he provides no help. I failed after slaving and obsessing over the class. I HEAVILY suggest Travis Holt. DO AWAY WITH FITZGIBBON!!
This course requires a lot of out class studying. As long as you read & do some of the homework which isn't required you should do fine. He doesnt make it any harder or easier. This one of those clases were you are going to get as much as you put into it but he does a good job a clearing up any confusion have & he has a sense of humor.
He does not take attendance in class and his discussions in class are very useless. He doesn't teach half the material which is on the test. and the tests are horrible. try and get another teacher who actually teaches from the book, instead of one who talks about pointless information.
He is not a very helpful teacher. Half of the material on the test is not covered in the class. The labs taught by grad students are more helpful than actually attending the lectures taught by him. Avoid this teacher at all costs! The other professors are far more helpful and actually TEACH the material from the book.
Quite possibly the worst professor I've ever had. He doesn't teach you anything;he expects to read the chapters and completely understand material, even when the majority of the class had never prior studied Accounting. The lab quizzes will redeem your grade, but don't expect anything more than a B, no matter how hard you work.
He is a very down to earth teacher. Explains information well, but expect that you read over the information in the book beforehand. Very interesting to listen to. Test are departmental so what her covers may not be enough, but i would highly recommend him,
I liked him as a teacher. He kept class fun..as fun as accounting can be. I hate him for the grade he gave me. I was .125 points away from getting a B in the class and he wouldnt give it to me.My quiz average was an 82.5, if he would have rounded it to an 83 id have a B but he wouldnt. I thought it was an interesting class but hes tough on grading!
Not an easy class at all, but he doesn't make it any easier. Study hard for the tests
I had Fitzgibbon for 210 and thought he was a good teacher, but my mind was completely changed upon taking his 310 class. His jokes have gotten worse over Christmas break probably due to the downturn in the stock market. He is arrogant and it is impossible to ask him questions. He is dull. His tests are impossible. Have fun with his 310 class.
One of the few remaining teachers that expects more from you than regurgitation. He tests your understanding of the material, as opposed to your memory, so put in the neccessary hours outside of class and you'll do fine. He's also really funny if you have a dry sense of humor.
You.gotta.STUDY.and.READ
BOOTCAMP
I would not recommend taking this teacher.
The ones who fail and say this class was impossible were the same ones who didn't go to class or read the book. Mr. Fitzgibbon is a very good professor but requires you to read the material and understand it. Novel approach! Very nice person, who wants his students to succeed. Has a dry sense of humor. I recommend him to any accounting majors.
Don't take this teacher if you are not willing to spend numerous hours reading the textbook and working problems. This is pretty much a "teach yourself" kind of teacher.
If you are looking for an easy ride this is not the guy to sign up for. The class is very hard, but if you study like you should it will turn out just fine. If you pass this class with a good grade you will really know you stuff because he requires you to know every aspect of the course. Good teacher, Great guy.
Great teacher. Had him for 310 and 311. If you go to class and read and study outside class you will do well and be well prepared for future classes!
He expects you to read the book and not just come to class for him to read slides to you. The class was hard, but I learned more than with other teachers. He works out examples in class that help you a lot.
GREAT TEACHER!! He is very nice and helpful. You cannot pass this class without reading the book. The test are pretty easy if you understand the material. They only consist of about 18 multiple choice questions and about 3 problems. You also have a quiz almost every week in lab, but you get to drop two at the end. I would recommend him to everyone.
Keep up with problems done in the lab
Tough on grading. Has no mercy.
he expects you to do your part by reading and being prepared before class if you do that everything is a lot easy. i think he is a really good teacher and helps you to understand the material if you just try
By far my least favorite teacher. Yes, he knows what he's talking about, but he expects you to know pretty much everything before he teaches it. I like to be taught accounting procedures before I'm tested on them. Read the book, went to every class, worked the problems..didn't do well. Just not my style of teaching.
by far the toughest class i have taken at the university but this guy makes it even harder. Run from him if you plan to pass this class without butchering your gpa. Many people in my class are taking him for the 3rd time. I would NOT recommend him as a teacher nor as a person. he is arrogant, rude and disrespectful and not the least bit funny.
Worst teacher I have ever had. He expects you to learn the material on your own before class. He gives pop quizzes on un-taught material. He does not use the textbook and will only work random problems in class. He is very sarcastic and picks on students. He basically made me hate being an accounting major. Do not take him!
Mr. Fitzgibbon is not the bully that he's painted out to be- let's be honest, it's a hard subject; he expects effort outside class from students, but if you go to class and show effort, then he will help you out. I'm sure most these comments are from people who failed..
Trust me... Don't take him unless you don't have a life or this is the only class you are taking, but he still might be too much!
Yes, he does give pop quizzes. Yes, he does expect you to read the textbook before class. His tests are extremely difficult. However, if you make it out of his class alive, you will know your stuff. He is one of the only teachers that I have had that actually requires more than regurgitation. If you want an easy A, don't take him,
Worst professor I have ever had. His exams are impossible. Last semester the class avaerage on the final was a 40 and he acted like that was our fault. I kept up with the material throughout the semester and studied over a week for the final and did terrible. His quizes aren't consistant so it's hard to prepare for him. Over half our classes failed
WORST TEACHER EVER! Do not take him he will teach you nothing and expect you to know everything. RUN!
BAD TEACHER! Took his class twice and still failed, and I am a straight A student. Go Figure. UA has plenty of accounting teachers, pick any of them but him!!!
This class was very time consuming, but it is doable. His in class problems are very similar to the quiz questions and quiz questions are similar to the test. He wants you to grasp the big picture and that can be difficult, but he was always available to help you understand the concept. Enjoyed the class wish I would have had him for other classes.
This class was definitely difficult. You must read & be prepared for class or else you won't learn the material. I must say that I learned more in this class than any class ever & it took being able to put in the effort to get the grade. If your lazy, take someone else. Mr. Fitzgibbon isn't a bad teacher, he's now one of my favorites.
Hardest SOB I've had in college. He expects you to know everything he does. His quizzes were just as hard if not harder than the tests. You WILL fail if you don't study the material before class.
Tough, but fair. Uses the quizzes that come with the book, so there are a few things on the quiz that he doesn't cover in class (mostly word problems), but he doesn't put anything on the test that isn't covered in class. Really knows his stuff, and I would absolutely recommend him to anyone; you will really know the material if you stick it out.
This course is going to be difficult no matter who is teaching it, but I really enjoyed Fitzgibbon. His tests and quizzes are difficult, but he is a good teacher. He will seem intimidating at first, but he is a really nice and funny guy. I would recommend him.
He is a good teacher with a great personality but he takes accounting serious and the material is hard and you better know it. Online quizzes are awful!! One dislike is his lecture is all abouth the problems yet they only account for a smal portion of his test
very hard!!
This teacher is disrespectful and down right demeaning. My textbook became my new bible. I breathed ACCT and STILL failed. He expects you to teach yourself, even though we are PAYING him to do that? Quizzes are irrelevant and the problems he goes over in class are nothing like the problems given on exam. If you want to pass the 1st time AVOID!!
okay. as long as you keep up with reading and attend class. i used "the scott academy" youtube videos to help me prior to class.
He expects you tocwork and actually learn rather than just giving you an "A" for regurgitating facts, which is why some students don't like him. He wants you to understand the concepts and reasoning behind everything. If you do well in this class, you'll undoubtedly know the material.
Quizzes no longer count as a part of your grade so there are just three tests. If you pay attention in class and put in your due diligence you'll be okay. Not an easy class, but the man knows what he teaches and is a great communicator.
I actually really like Fitzgibbons. He uses examples in class but explains the material along the way instead of just using power points. The material is hard and takes time and practice. But he tries really hard to help you understand the material.
Fitzgibbon is a great teacher!! It's a tough class, regardless of the teacher. But his lucid explanations and accessibility make the class very manageable. Keep up with the reading and homework, and go to office hours, and you'll do fine.
Fitzgibbon is a nice guy HOWEVER, he is/was the hardest teacher at Alabama. He made difficult material more difficult. He expects you to know all the material prior and does not really "teach", so basically you're on your own. I wouldn't advise my worse enemy to take his class.
Fitzgibbon is helpful. He works problems in class very similar to what you will see on the exam. They are not straightforward problems, but not impossible either. I studied about 1-2 hours in the morning before each exam and I made a B. If I would have had time to study more, I would have made an A+. Not nearly as difficult as the rumors!
Great professor. If you want your money's worth, take him.
If you want your money's worth, take him.
Fitzgibbon's 311 class is tough but doable. He's very smart and knows a ton about financial accounting, so ask questions in class and visit his office hours. He's got kind of a dry wit but really cares about his students and is a nice guy. I would definitely recommend working the in-class problems 5-10 times each before the tests in order to pass.
I'm not sure why people gripe about him. Went to class, made A's on all three tests without a whole lot of extra effort, and there was an extra credit assignment that was a huge grade boost. He's also pretty funny, which never hurts.
No any other grades except three exams, so you'd better work harder before exams. fortunately the exams are highly related to practices provided.
The class only has three grades, all of which are tests. But he spends multiple lectures on each subject that will be tested and then gives great study guides for the tests. A very manageable class unless you are a horrible test taker. High grades are within reach if you put in enough time.
You HAVE to keep up with the recommended homework in order to pass the tests. Work and rework the practice problems because they are very very similar to what you will see on the tests. In class, he over explains the material you need to know. Give the practice problems a try before class so you don't get caught up in his tough explanations!
Difficult class but awesome teacher. You need to study everyday and know the practice problems inside and out. He tries to keep you from memorizing and makes the course challenging but definitely one of the best teachers i've had in terms of preparing me for real world situations. Also the only part of your grade is the tests, no participation, etc
Dont take him. Made an A in 310 and had to drop this class. Fitz does not not give any partial credit on his exams. Only 3 exams no extra anything so don't bother asking for help because if you don't earn it you will not get it
Avoid him if you can !
Do not take. Half my class had to drop the guy. The other 311 teachers are the better option
Has no idea how to teach, whatsoever.
He definitely knows the material, but when he goes over the problems he doesn't even specify which question he's going over. Doesn't even read the problem just immediately write down the answer assuming students know what he's talking about. He's not very organized explaining stuff on the board..
Took this guy in the Spring and had to take him again in the summer because he was the only teacher available. I studied more than 30 hours for his tests and still didn't pass. Your grade only comes from 3 tests (No homework or quiz grades). He gives no partial credit on the tests, so unless you're the Jesus of accounting, take another professor.
terrible teacher!!!1 if you have other teacher to take, just do not take him!! you will not pass this course unless you are very good at accounting..
Your entire grade will be based off of 3 exams. Most people have a hard time & want to take it out on him, but I think he does his best to help. The material is really tough and you have to work to pass unless you are a genius in accounting. He is tough and intimidating but I do believe that he wants the best for students and for the department.
I dont know what to say.
He is brutal. He will make you work for every single point that you earned - the most harsh professor due to the sheer nature of the course. I like him, though, since he gets his points across, and if you do exactly what he said + put in effort (like 110% aka pretending your other classes/jobs/S.O/social life do not exist), then you'll be "okay".
Professor Fitzgibbon is an extremely difficult professor, but this class is not as bad as most people make it out to be. If put in the work preparing for each test and doing all of his practice problems, you can do fine. The grade is comprised of only tests, but he does curve based on the performance of the class as a whole.
Mr. Fitzgibbon is an incredibly demanding teacher, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The class is tough and a bit dry, but I don't think he did a horrible job of making it any worse than it needed to be. We all failed one of the tests so he curved the final grade. Overall, he's a fine and fair teacher, but you're going to have to work.
For these tests you need to study about 10 hours for at least just to pass. Most difficult class in Accounting no matter who your teacher is. His teaching is okay but there is no real exact idea of questions that will be asked. You must review everything and read and completely understand every word of every chapter.
This is hard class regardless of who you take. Fitz is a great guy and is relatively fair with the grading (i.e. curves if the class does terrible). If you read the required material, study the practice problems, and do the recommended homework, you should be fine. The final is cumulative though... so yeah... keep up with all your stuff.
311 is the hardest class you'll take, no matter your teacher. Fitz prepares you well and gives practice problems just like his tests. He cares about his students but definitely pushes you. He is a fair grader and will give a good amount of partial credit, and he will curve your final grade. I feel as though I learned so much material in this course
I can't believe that Fitz gets these bad reviews. People say that his tests are impossible. This is NOT true. I attended class once and made an A. Read the book and do the practice problems. Put in the effort and you will be good. Even though I didn't go to class I still interact with him. Great guy. Can't wait to take him again for AC597.
Basically, he is happy when the class averages a 60% on the exams. If the class average is below a 60% then he threatens to take away his normal curve so less students can pass. He also has a part 1 to his exam, which is nearly impossible to score even half of the points. Our average for part 1 was 8 points out of the total 40 points.
I cannot count the amount of hours I spent in the library and a private tutor out of my own pocket. If it were not for my tutor I would not have passed. Be prepared to not be able to finish a single test you take and dont count on Fitz for help. He will tell you not to see him during office hours on how to improve because he told you on day one
I would take someone else - I asked for help outside of class and his response was that he did not know how to guide me. All he does is put the answers to a problem on the board. He doesn't explain how he got the answer. You're on your own to learn the material. Part 1 of tests are very difficult. Don't expect Learn Smarts will pass you (10%).
Fitzgibbon is by far one of the best professors at UA. AC 311 is a tough class, but Fitz is a brilliant professor and does a great job explaining the material. He really cares about his students, and his class not only helped me develop a strong work ethic, but he also inspired me stick with accounting. AC 311 with Fitz was my favorite class at UA.
He is one of the hardest professors I have ever had, but he really explains how to work through the problems. I learned and understood accounting more than ever before because of the way he taught it. The exams are extremely difficult but he is willing to go over them if you go to his office hours, he is extremely approachable and willing to help.
You have to learn everything by yourself. Everyday, I regret I chose this class over AC352. Avoid at all costs unless you have no other option.
This was my 3rd time taking AC311 and my 1st time taking it with Mr. Fitzgibbon. I withdrew the first time and made a D+ the second time. No matter who you have for this class, IT IS HARD AND YOU HAVE TO STUDY. Read the material before class. Work out every problem you can over and over. Go to office hours. Don't let up!! Make this class your life.
Im upset, I don't want to defame this guy but his style is brutal. Especially during Covid while everyone is adjusting to online learning. He posts hours on hours of videos that consist of monotone speaking and poor audio quality for each lecture. Its extremely overwhelming and impossible to retain. From the jump I didn't stand a chance.
Had to take online due to UA making the go from in-person to completely online, so can't speak for him as an in-person teacher, but would NOT recommend online for sure. He used lectures from a previous semester, so he had to tell us to ignore comments about assignments due since that did not apply to us. Every test avg was 60. Never emails back.
