This Professor really prepared me for CHEM 112. It will be hard but you just have to stick with the class and study for your exams. I wanted to make this review because there was none available. Again this class is hard but it is not impossible.
Great Chemistry Lab Professor! He came off serious and harsh grader but overall he was super funny and very attentive to all of us. Gives tons of quizzes but it's on things we learned the previous week. You can tell he cares about the students and making sure we learn the material. Lots of extra credit and some group projects. TAKE FLORES
This lab was fun all around, he may seem tough at first but throughout the semester gets more lenient. As long as you pay attention and get the work done this class will be a breeze. Very accessible through office hours and pronto and really made this class a joy to be in.
Took this class during summer for 9 weeks so the lessons were very fast. He was tough at first but he got easier, maybe it was to weed out people since you really need to focus. We had a new lab everyday then you take a quiz on that lab the next day. There's a group project, but it should be a breeze as long as you work together. Lots of EC!
Professor Flores is one of the most dedicated professors at Cerritos College. At first, he may seem harsh, but it is only to prepare you for the real world and more challenging classes. He wants you to succeed and cares about his students. Just put in some effort and you will pass with flying colors.
Prof. Flores is strict on some things but is overall very flexible if you reach out to him when you need extra help. He can be sarcastic at times, but he is also patient enough to not give up on you until you understand something. Good listening skills is critical as it is a pet peeve of his to repeat himself. Altogether a very dedicated professor.
Professor Flores genuinely cares about his students doing well in the course and appreciates participation. Focuses on understanding how chemistry is applied in the real world! This is a heafty course but as long as you are asking questions and attend his office hours, you are on the right track.
Took this class for the Fall and to be honest we all know chemistry is a hard subject. He did tried to break things down for further understanding of the material. A lot of homework and a lot of notes. Be ready to participate to understand. He will not going to pull your hand to do the work. Thats your responsability. Online through Pearson,
Prof. is a Forensic Scientist and emphasizes real world connections, including a crime lab tour. His class is rigorous but he is understanding if we are stressed/need extensions/etc. Exams are fair and he emphasizes efficiency in lab and lecture. Beware that he changes his mind and schedule a lot and expects students to be available/on Pronto.
He's a good professor. He cares about his students but isn't going to hold your hands throughout the semester. If you need help, he'll be available to help you. He's fair with grading. Don't cheat in his class he takes cheating very seriously and he'll make sure you're out of the district. Good luck!
Professor Flores teaches well and cares for his students. Provides lots of tutoring hours and extra help. He may seem very strict and scary at times but he's actually not. Come to lab prepared! He takes cheating very seriously. He is also very understanding and will give extra time on some assignments. Highly recommend this teacher.
Overall a great professor that I would recommend taking. Professor Flores lectures are easy to understand b/c he cares about the subject and wants you to succeed plus the lectures are easy to understand. He provides good feedback on tests and quizzes. The class is pretty straightforward, you do the work and study, then you'll succeed in his class.
Professor Flores is honestly and genuinely a great professor. At first he may seem intimidating but that is only because he is weeding out the weak students. He is accessible outside of class, he genuinely cares for his students and their future, he offers great opportunity, and honestly he just overall makes chemistry interesting and fun.
Professor Flores is the textbook definition of tough love. He is intimidating at first, but he will work with students who put in the effort and actively participate in class. He responds to emails and pronto messages quicker than most professors. Overall pretty great.
Puts up a tough facade during first weeks of class. He does lighten up after filtering through (some drop after first weeks). Constantly updates class over Pronto and Canvas announcements, READ THEM. READ LABS BEFOREHAND, he may call you out specifically to talk about what we're doing that day. Lecture may be fast for some, but easy to understand.
Professor Flores is such a caring individual towards his students. He may come off as intimidating at first but trust me he lightens up. Always read labs prior to when they will be done. PARTICIPATE!!! He is very accessible and answers emails and messages on pronto asap. If you participate and do well on quizzes you will do fine on the exams.
Initially, he may be stringent, but it is to prepare students for the course. With dedication, hard work, and participation, you are sure to do great! Be prepared for quizzes and labs! He is willing to work with students who put in the work and want to do well in this course. He responds and grades faster than most professors! Great professor.
His expectations are clear and concise. He does not mince words and freely gives constructive criticism and hard-earned praise. He facilitates group learning which helped me understand and retain several key concepts by hearing how other classmates were conceptualizing the material. He can sound annoyed sometimes. Don't take it personally.

At first he can be a bit intimidating but he really wants you to succeed. If you're confused on something, ASK. He will be more than happy to slow down a bit and help you out. Also, please do any of the extra worksheets he gives out. Those will literally make everything so much easier.
A difficult class that requires a lot of time and effort to get a good grade. He is very straightforward about what he expects. Can be VERY hard on you but wants students to pass. Have to work for your grade. Material can be a lot to get through but he is good at teaching it. Just make sure to be on top of the material and you should be fine.
The material can be a lot but he is good at teaching it. Lots of quizzes so be prepared with the material. Recommend asking the tutors for help if needed. HAVE to earn your grade. The class will take a lot of time and effort but you can do it. As long as you complete the lecture notes, hw, and any extra assignments on canvas, you should be good.
Initially he may seem stringent, but it is to prepare students for the course. He is fast to respond to emails, and is willing to help students who put effort. By dedicating time to study and participating, you should pass. Be prepared for quizzes and labs! He gives extra credit! Overall he's a great professor who wants his students to succeed.
Excellent professor. The class is well paced and you are given all the resources you will need to be able to succeed. As long as you manage to put in an honest effort into studying and keeping up with the material you will do well. He also does a great job at communicating with the class. Ask for help. Work and communicate with classmates.
When you start the course it can seem like it will be difficult but as long as you stay committed you will get various opportunities to get extra credit. Along with this, he will be lenient with any misses as long as he knows you are committed to the course and you are trying. All it takes is for you to do your work to pass the class
I honestly didn't really like this class at first and was considering dropping, but the professor became a lot more chill throughout the semester. He provides us with all the resources and tools we need to pass the class, although I will say the pace of the class can be intense at times. Would recommend if you're willing to put in the work.
Professor Flores is a great professor, at the beginning of the class it felt very fast-paced due to the fact that it had been a few years since my last chemistry class. However, I enjoyed how the lecture was structured and how he went over practice problems in class. He was always willing to answer any questions and clear up any confusion.
I really enjoy this professor, while is true that my grade at the end was not satisfactory, i would not blame the professor, he really tries to give lectures and labs as if in a professional setting, same goes for tests, if you are lazy and think that you can google the material then do not take him, but if you are genuinely interested go ahead
He tries to prepare you for exams and is available and quick when asking for help on homework.
Professor Flores was a great professor this semester. He was a tough grader but honestly does so to help you do your best. This class can be very difficult but also very rewarding once you understand the concepts. The group quizzes are very useful because they help you build bonds with your table. I would definitely take Professor Flores again.
Professor Flores is a great professor. YES he is tough and a fair grader but you have to put in the work to do well. He is knowledgeable and accessible (he replies to emails consistently). Be ready to participate in class. Group work is a must, you need to make friends because being a loner will not help. This is not an easy A class
He is very helpful with office hours and extra help when needed however goes through lectures Alittle fast for most just take advantage of the extra help given
I had professor Flores for Chem 110 and is an awesome instructor. Chemistry is a hard class & not many instructors give extra credit & group quizzes like Mr. Flores. He also encourages group work as well making the material easier to understand. If theres one thing i could change is for him to break down things slightly more. Other than that 10/10.
He is an awesome professor. I have no complaints and he really helps you to do better. I do suggest that you always do your work and keep up with the work. Always do your exam reviews ahead of time and read through your labs beforehand.
Chem 110 with Professor Flores wasn't extremely difficult, but you do have to put in the work. He moves quickly through lectures but they are clear/easy to follow, and he is very accessible outside of class. He also gives plenty of opportunity for points/extra credit and grades exams fairly. Overall enjoyed this class a lot, highly recommend!
Prof actually cares about students learning and understanding the material. Very much a prickly pear, holds you accountable and has high expectations.
Professor Flores is an awesome professor. He is a little intimidating at first but really just wants you to succeed. He is accessible outside of class, offers many extra credit opportunities, and his lectures are easy to follow. Lots of quizzes though. He is always willing to help if you ask.
I think the teacher was overall good. At first he comes off scary but he is known for softening up. The lecture and lab were different and a little frustrating but a good beginning class. Stay up on the notes or the daily quizzes will mess you up as well.
Overall he was a solid teacher, at first he was very intimidating but atleast for me the intimidation motivated me to do better. It is a hard class but as long as you keep up with lecture and studying you should be fine. He is great with helping students during office hours and help in general.
Great professor, he gives many opportunities to increase your grade. Can be strict at times but cares for your grade. He expects everyone to listen and learn.
Overall he was a very good teacher, though he was intimidating at first. But atleast for me the intimidation motivated me to do better. He's good at helping students during office hours and just help in general.
Professor Flores is a great professor! You can tell he cares for his students and truly wants them to succeed. He can seem cold at first, but he's actually really nice once you get to know him. The lectures are a bit fast-paced but he's very thorough; the lectures are recorded for students to watch back on. He also responds to emails very quickly!
I took Professor Flores for Chem 110 and I enjoyed his class. Be prepared to take a quiz every lab and lecture period. His class is also homework heavy and on average you will submit one to two homework assignments every week. He provides a lot of practice exams and worksheets which are almost always identical to his exams.
Easy to work with and encourages the class to study. If you are focused and ask questions you will do well.
He's a bit intimidating but I appreciated the class. They expect you to also check out their recorded lectures and the textbook too, and will ask if you've looked at those before you contacted them. Grading is very heavily biased on Exams and Labs, so it's important to do those.
He records the lectures so you can look back on if you missed class or want to review. He encourages you to study, which you should do! Be prepared to take quizzes every day but if you study they will be easy. The homework is great practice for the quizzes. Overall he cares about you passing and is available to help. I would take his class again!
He can be tough on students but only because he wants the students to actually learn the material. Hes kind enough to extend deadlines and gives extra credit for a lot of the exams but only helps if you put in the work to learn!
Really great professor, very understanding and tries to help students and is willing to work with them. Gives opportunities to decide on certain things like if an extra review session would be preferred. He cares about students understanding the material so they can do well in later chemistry courses. I would definitely take him again if I could.
Professor Flores was a great professor all around. He held office hours often making him very accessible, and did group quizzes which were a savior, and was difficult but only for the class's benefit. He did go a little fast during the lecture but was thorough. ATTEND OFFICE HOURS AND GET THE TEXTBOOK!!
Prof Flores knows his subject well and is happy to help. He has great office hours and is available through email. Participation and respect are very important in class. The more you participate and follow the rules (like dressing appropriately for lab, and not leaving early) the more the professor is willing to help. Pearson is used in lecture
Second time taking Prof Flores. He knows his subject well and is happy to help. He has great office hours and is available through email. The more you participate and follow the rules the more the professor is willing to help. Pearson is used in lecture.
You wont regret taking Professor Flores. He had thorough lectures and uploaded recordings to canvas incase you missed anything. We had multiple group quizzes, test corrections, extra credit opportunities, and he didn't assign an overwhelming amount of homework. Respect, being on time, and putting in the effort to learn are important in his class.
Profesor Flores was great he explains very well and he cares about his students, participation is important and if you are a good student he will compensate for it.
He is a very chill professor, and as long as you do your work and are respectful of him and his time, you should be good!
Great professor! It was not an easy course (CHEM111), but if you attend class, actively participate in lecture, complete the online homework, and ask questions you will be good. You need to earn your grade, but the professor is very caring and will provide as much or little help you need to ensure your success.
Very organized and respectful professor to say the least. He helps you if you are stuck on problems. And I found out he's also doing 112 so if like this class take him 112.
Very organized and respectful professor. To pass the class DO THE ONLINE HOMEWORK, it helps a lot if you don't want to study anything else.
Great professor, knows his stuff, and would gladly answer any questions you have about chemistry. Try to get the gist of the topic taught the day before going to the next class; Sometimes there are quizzes on them but the homework should help a lot in understanding the topic. Overall, chill and enjoyable professor that everyone should take.
I would 100% recommend to a friend. Yk they say you learn through homework and youtube throughout college, ummm Flores actually teaches. Other than being a grade lecturer, he's flexible and understanding of situations. I'm ngl he is scary at first but once you get to know him more he actually cares about his students and their success.
Flores is a great professor knowing that chemistry can get difficult. He may be intimidating, but he is understanding and is willing to work with you as long as you're actively trying your best in his class. His lectures do go by fast, but he records every one of them so you can look back at it. Always there to help and is easy to get a hold of.
He really shows that he cares and wants his students to succeed. He is very knowledgeable and will help guide you.
This Professor works hard to make the material consumable and understandable. The class overall is challenging but as long as you apply yourself, show up and pay attention you should be in line to learn.
He comes off very intimidating/discouraging but knows his subject well and is willing to help if you put in the effort so I encourage students to go to his office hours. Offers recorded lectures but should still attend class as he does give group quizzes/exams very often. If you don't study, be sure to do all your work as they help you practice.
This professor puts great effort into making the material accessible and easy to grasp. While the class is demanding, applying yourself, attending regularly, and paying attention will position you well for learning.
Highly recommend taking Flores. He records his lectures so you can always look back at them just incase you miss something in class or you can use them to study. He's always willing to help if YOU ask for it, even came into the study room to help us understand a topic. Online homework needs to be done and quizzes every day on what you've learned.
He is willing to help you as long as you show up in class on time and demonstrate that you're putting in effort. The only thing I didn't like was when he told us he wouldn't drop our lowest exam scores if we don't do well on the next exam, which was very discouraging. Other than that, he is a good lecturer. Good luck!
This was my 2nd time taking him as a professor and though he's can be very intimidating, I appreciate how helpful he is to those who ask for it. I strongly recommend going often to his office hours if you're confused because I know the lectures go by pretty fast. He really knows his stuff though and is incredible at explaining the material.
Prof. Flores is hands down one of the best chemistry teachers that Cerritos has to offer. This is my second semester with him & I would take him again if it was going to chem 112. Go to office hours, ask questions no matter how ignorant they are, and demonstrate you want to learn and excel in this class. As long as you do those things you'll pass.
Professor Flores truly wants you to succeed in his class and is always available to help. If he sees you making an effort then he will work with you to achieve a better grade in the class. The class itself is difficult but manageable if you stay consistent with the homework and ask questions during class. The homework will take a while to complete.
CHEM 111 was a tough class, but when I finished the class I certainly felt like a learned a TON! Professor Flores sets up his students for success in future chemistry classes. He appreciates class participation and likes it when you show initiative. I would highly recommend professor Flores! He works hard and cares about his students.
Professor Flores is fake tough at first, but once you integrate yourself into the class and get to know him, he is kind and cares if you pass. Involve yourself in the learning and you will come out on top. He wants you to succeed.
Professor Flores genuinely wants his students to succeed. He gives a significant amount of homework throughout the week and gives a quiz almost every lecture about the material discussed the previous lecture. He records all his lectures and posts them on canvas in case you miss a day or want to review that days notes. Highly recommend his class.
Professor Flores is a good Professor that cares, however just be aware to keep up in the class and FULLY understand and know the material. A lot of the material builds off of each other and it is very easy to get trapped in past assignments/material if you do not keep up.
He is a good professor, just don't be disrespectful, and do your work. He will also answer your questions if you have any, so don't be afraid to ask.
You are provided a lecture outline for each unit. He is willing to help you but you have to speak up and ask questions. Lectures are decently fast, but her provides zoom recordings of each lecture, in case you missed something or want to go back and review.
Professor Flores is without a doubt the best. He provides more than enough opportunities for students to succeed if they show their dedication to class. I HIGHLY encourage to go to his office hours to get help on something that you're having trouble with, he loves to help students. Make sure to be caught up with material to pass quizzes and exams
Professor Flores is an amazing chemistry professor whose methods and approach to teaching can easily intimidate you, but trust me, that's the point. Get beyond that, and you'll find a professor who deeply cares and wants to help. It's just up to you to seek that and prove that you care, too. Biggest tip is just to try to show up to all lectures!
amazing professor, very lecture heavy. miss one class and you miss 8 pages worth of notes, but it can be made up with the zoom recordings. he just wants you to try your best in this class and if you aren't going to try DONT take this class
Prof. Flores is an amazing teacher that really cares about his students. He's always available outside of class during office hours in person/via zoom. Don't miss lectures, do his worksheets from canvas and you'll be fine. You really need to understand what's going on conceptually to get a good grade on the exams. Expect a quiz about each lecture.
Profesor cares about his students. He wants you to be respectful and try your best. He is clear from the beginning that this class will take a lot of work and that he expects your full attention. There are quizzes every day. There is homework every day. There is always extra support and resources for additional help.
Prof. Flores is a great teacher and I'd take him for chem 111 every time. He loves students who put in effort. You will not pass or get any sympathy from him if you're lazy. He's always happy to help with any questions so don't be afraid to ask anything. He does everything a professor can possibly do so your grade is entirely up to you.
Professor John Flores Is an amazing professor. Although the coursework is difficult, he makes his lesson very clear and gives us multiple opportunities to master the subject. There are many resources to practice and he's grades pretty fairly. Would definitely recommend.
Amazing Professor. He is very understanding and loves what he does. They are always available during office hours and respond to emails promptly. His expectations are very high but if you dedicate yourself to learning the material, he is absolutely wonderful.
Professor Flores is dope man. He understands how heavy this course is to the point that he understands the struggle of it. Participation matters in the class as well if you're not willing to put in the work it will show on the exams. His lectures are smooth, understandable, and straight to the point. He's open to questions and cool guy to talk to.
Amazing Professor. Incredibly accommodating and very empathetic and understanding towards your issues. He sets high expectations but as long as you try to learn the material, he's incredible. Very text heavy and some long homework assignments on Pearsons.
Prof. Flores he is an excellent Professor . He is willing to help with any problem that you have and give you the help that you need in order to pass the class.
overall good professor. He can be a bit stubborn, but it is only because he wants his students to succeed. Don't let that intimidate you. If you do take the class, I'd suggest you prep by reading the textbook, doing EXTRA problems before lecture/lab, and attend office hours. Pros: understands students whatsoever/ changes HW deadlines.
A lot of people in my class said that he was too harsh, but I honestly liked his stern demeanor. People said he lectured too quickly, but he would explain something if you asked a question about it. I think people were just a little intimidated by how he conducted himself. Utilize office hours if you have additional questions and you will succeed.
Overall an amazing experience in class. You must put in the hard work to pass. Chem 111 is not easy.
I 100% recommended anyone to take Professor Flores. He is very thorough and actually cares about the students. He offers extra credit which I rarely see any Professor do. He teaches very well and very open to questions and office hours.
I 100% recommend Professor Flores to anyone taking chemistry. He is a great professor and actually cares about the students. He offers are extra credit which I rarely see any professor do. He teaches very well and is very open to office hours and questions.
Tough class but awesome professor
Lectures are recorded and prepare you easily for the exam. Very helpful if you need any help outside of class with any questions you need. Be careful because he does go really fast for lectures, but thanks to the recordings you can go back and check what was said.
I had him for both CHEM 110 and 111. He is a great professor that will take the time to help you if you ask for it. Not going to lie, yes the course is difficult but he would try his best for you to succeed. He may come off as intimidating but in reality he is an amazing professor. As long as you stay locked in, you will do great. Does use Pearson.
Some major takeaways from this class is 1. You need to study everyday and learn all material fully in order to succeed with a high grade. 2. There will be quizes every week from material you learned in the previous class. 3. If you seek help from the professor during office hours or email he will answer all your questions.
I've had the opportunity to have Professor Flores for 2 classes now, Chem 110 and 111. From my experience and many others like me, Professor Flores is undoubtedly the best Professor I've had during my time in college. He genuinely cares about his students and it shows in his work. I've recommended him to many people and will continue to do so.
Professor Flores is a great instructor. He truly cares about his students learning the subject matter and also their overall success and well-being. The course material is hard but he will help you as much as he can. He spent a lot of time outside of class hours/office hours helping us. I would take his courses again. Just be ready to work!
Professor Flores is a great instructor who truly cares about his students learning, success, and overall well-being. Be ready to participate, put in the work, and reach out for help. He is helpful during class and outside of class/office hours. I think the online Pearson homework should be reduced, and worksheets should be emphasized.
He is a great professor who cares about his students. There is a lot of homework that is scheduled in a way that helps review the previous lecture and prepare for the next one. There is a quiz after every lecture that is based on the prior lecture. Exams carry a lot of material but are purely based on lectures, homework assignments, and quizzes.
There are quizzes every class so make sure you are up to date on the lecture material. He encourages participation both inside and outside the classroom, in terms of asking questions and seeking help when needed. He records the lectures, which is definitely helpful for reviewing material.
Chemistry is freaking hard (at least for me it was), but Professor Flores genuinely cares about students' success. He is patient with answering questions, has multiple opportunities for office hours, and will go over worksheets for concepts that will appear on the exams. However, be ready to put in work and lock in fr if you want to pass!
Professor Flores goes through the material clearly but it is at a very fast pace. It is not difficult to keep up with as long as you are paying attention to the lecture entirely. The quizzes always apply to the what we most recently went over in the lectures but you do have to think a bit harder and truly apply what you learned in the lecture.
He genuinely cares about his students' success. While his lecture moves quickly, he covers all necessary material. He is very approachable and always available for help during office hours, via email, or by arranging group sessions when needed. The course material wasn't easy, but completing the homework and solving worksheets helped a lot.
Professor Flores is one the best chemistry teachers i've ever had. He cares genuinely about his students success. He continuously lets his students know that he is available for office hours and encourages you to attend. The class is hard, but if you put in the work and take it seriously you can pass the class.
Professor Flores acts tough which scares students but hes actually pretty nice and cares a lot about students' progress and genuinely tries to help each one. The class is hard though and he tries to make sure you know that. Quizzes, exams, and even labs will be challenging so try to take time absorbing the material better especially unit 4.
Overall great teacher, however you should be ready to take time to study at home and review lectures in order to not fall behind since his class is a bit fast paced in the way he teaches his lectures.
He will explain everything in a simple format but if you still don't understand, he will help if you're willing to seek it.
It was fun and cool
It was cool
I believe Professor Flores really cares about the success of his students. He passionately lectures and critiques when he sees the class is not achieving potential. Participation is important during lectures! The concepts are a bit difficult to understand but putting in the work outside of class, whether it be alone or in his office hours helps.
He is a good professor, he cares students and help students when they need help. His lectures goes fast and you need to focus on instead of far behind. His tests is heavy some times and we have quiz each class. Sometimes, he gives us extra credit. For this class, doing pearson homework and practices is important.
An overall good Chem professor! Should be an easy class if you pay attention during lectures, follow along with your notes, and study for quizzes and exams. He explains the material understandably and gives and works through examples to help students get the hang of the questions that'll be on quizzes and exams.
Professor Flores goes through the material but it is at a very fast pace. It is difficult to keep up with so make sure you're paying attention in lecture. The quizzes always apply to the what we most recently went over in the lectures and we have one each each class. We did group projects and also gives extra credit.
He is very intimidating, but don't let that prevent you from talking to him or asking questions. He genuinely cares about your learning and growth. The class itself is tough and fast-paced. Be prepared to bring in English/grammar and Math skills. You will not pass if you don't make the effort to understand the material.
Prof. Flores is amazing and he really cares about his students .I rated the class to be difficult not b/c of him but b/c CHEM111 is hard. Be prepared to study everyday. Quizzes every class & lab, extra credit opportunities, online hwrk, exam heavy. He does go through the lectures really fast so make sure you set time aside to rewatch his videos.
Flores is a great professor, he always wants us to succeed. If you aren't on top of things in class this course will be very difficult. Lectures go pretty fast and it may be hard to keep up but he is always available at his office hours in order to help you. He puts his all in helping you and if you can't put the effort to try, don't take his class
He is very serious about chemistry, and you will have to try in his class. Be prepared for more portions of conceptual FRQs for the class, and be able to understand and explain concepts well. He's a pretty funny guy, even though he is serious.
Very kind, caring professor that makes sure you're given everything to succeed. His class isn't hard if you put the work in. There are so many resources that can be used to get a good understanding of the material. If you have a bad grade, that's on you, not Professor Flores's fault. He's not a tough grader and is very fair.
Take the time and effort to go to his office hours. If you ask him for help, he gives really good feedback on what you need to know and what you can work on in terms of answering conceptual questions. Most of the times, he wants you to get to the answer yourself and will help you with leading questions.
John Flores is an amazing professor that understands what he is doing and knows how to teach. He is very intimidating in the beginning and remains that way through out the semester but only because he wants the best for his students. He is understanding so talk to him, go to office hours!! Try your best and everything will go good.
He is extremely nit-picky and can be intimidating in how blunt he can be, however he cares a LOT about the success in his all of his students and is very vocal about it. He gives opportunities for group exams and group quizzes. His class is very well organized and he has HIGH expectations.
I absolutely love this teacher! He is the "you cant B.S a B.S-er" type. The class' performance, engagement and how much effort is put in will dictate how nice or mean he can be. There's a lecture and lab quiz covering the topic from the previous class, luckily for us he allowed group quizes. KNOW THE CONCEPTUAL QUESTIONS AND KNOW HOW TO WRITE!!
Professor Flores can come off as intimidating but he's a very nice & caring professor . Attend class. The course itself is difficult therefore you have to put in the work. He wants to see his students succeed so he will challenge you on your understanding of the material. This isn't a class where you can slack off
Professor Flores is one of the best professors I've had, though he comes off really hard in the beginning, when he sees that you care about learning, he will do his best to help you succeed. The course is a heavy one, but manageable once you put the time and effort. He is definitely wants you to succeed and he sees your potential along the way!
Really just follow through with homework and use the office hours he provides.
Great professor to take for 111! He does have hard exams but I would recommend going to his office hours to get help. Beware of quizzes every lecture and he will pick random people to answer questions during the lecture. Overall he will prepare you extremely well for Chem-112 and organic chemistry.
Genuinely one of the best professors I have ever taken in my entire college career. Although his class takes a lot of effort and time, he gives you a good base for if you ever need to take upper level chemistry courses. In my case, I did not, but he was genuinely such an inspirational person to me it made me consider wanting to major in chemistry!
He looks and act mean but he's actually pretty nice if you talk to him and get to know him. The more he understands you the more he can and will help you. His lectures are pretty good though sometimes he can go pretty fast and he doesn't give out too much homework?
He is a great professor, he really does care about the subject, I've learned a lot from his class but it is very fast pasted, and if you didn't really understand CHEM 110 a lot you will have a hard time playing catch up. He is also very understanding so if there is anything going on personally he will understand and make accomadations.
Professor Flores is the best!! Really enjoyed taking the class and everything was simplified and easier to understand. Pre labs and labs in general are a lot of work but it's normal before O-Chem. Totally recommend taking his class.
One of the best professors Ive ever had. While his lectures are filled with a lot of information in one hour, he still records them so they are always on Canvas. Is willing to help those who are struggling with the class
Professor Flores is one of the best professors I've ever had, and I could not recommend him more to other students.
Professor Flores is very good at teaching. He gives good feedback on lab reports on how you can improve. The lecture is pretty fast paced but he records them so you can always look back. There is a decent amount of online homework. Overall I would take the class again.
Professor Flores is truly one of the best professors I have ever taken. He gives good feedback and cares about the students. He truly wants them to succeed. Would definitely take again!
Solid Professor. Very accessible outside of class. Cares for his students and wants them to pass
He records lecture which is good. Not too much online homework. His exam are pretty straight forward. What he shows us is exactly what he puts on the exam. Gives a lot of feedback on our lab reports which is helpful.
Prof. Flores is an amazing professor. I have had for CHEM 110, 111, and now finishing 112. I highly recommend taking him. He may seem harsh at first but it is because he cares about his students and wants them to pass. He is always open for Office hours and does his best to help you out. He is very clear and understanding. You'll love him, really.
I love Professor Flores he is so awesome please take him if u need to take 112.
yeah semester done
This professor does encourage improving a lot during the semester and even though you could start shaky, if you do put in the work you will be able to see results. The lectures while not eye-opening are very easy to understand and allow people to get a good grasp on the material. Not really much to say about downsides, although be wary of hw.
Please take professor flores! Chemistry is a hard class but professor flores really cares about you. Go to his office hours, ask questions, rewatch the lectures and you'll be fine!!
Professor Flores is a great professor! He is very flexible and accommodates to your needs. He also gives a lot of time to complete each lab report and you are able to work with your table groups on quizzes and exams. We have one presentation where we can work with a partner which was not too difficult.
Professor Flores constantly shows his efforts to help to students succeed. He offers extra credit and group quizzes. He holds the students to a high standard when explaining concepts or completing assignments which is necessary if you consider pursuing a career in science.
It's his first time teaching chem112. He was a great 110 and 111 professor and it. He is still trying to perfect this class but nonetheless he still did a fantastic job and did his best to give his students the highest grades possible. This was a night class however so I would suggest going for an earlier schedule.
Professor Flores is a really great Professor. It is a tough class, so do not expect this class to be easy. He is hard on you but its because he truly cares and wants you to learn. He is willing to help you were he can and is available outside of class an responds fast. You should take his class if you want a professor who cares about his students.
Prof. Flores is without a doubt the best chem professor you can take. His lectures do go by really fast but he has recordings you can look back. Gives many opportunities for you to pass the class. However, chem is a beast so be prepared to dedicated many hours to the class and material. Visit his office hours for extra help.
Flores teaches his class differently than other professors, as his main goal is to prepare his students for more advanced chem classes which involve a lot of writing and conceptual ideas. This class is really hard at first, as it takes some time to adapt to his style, but he's very helpful and the class gets easier as it goes on. Would recommend.
Professor Flores is genuinely of the best professors I have ever had. Although he is kind and understanding - he does not play. He expects you to put in the work needed to do well in chemistry, and encourages you to challenge yourself. Chemistry is hard, but taking Flores gave me confidence that I could do it.
Chem 111 is not easy & takes a lot of dedication to get a good grade, so if you have a busy semester/workload be ready. That said professor Flores is an amazing/caring Chem professor and gives you every opportunity to succeed (👍 office hrs/ex. cred). Do the hw/watch the ebook videos & rewatch the recorded lecture videos & you'll be good!
I took professor Flores chem 111 before. It is his first time teach this class, but he runs the material smoothly without rash. As long as you review the lectures, doing practice, homework, and review past exam and quizzes, it will be very helpful. For the lab, it requires a lot work and discussion should be taken seriously.
Will never recommend for a friend!
Had him for the lab portion of 112 during the summer. Pros: offered a lot of extra credit opportunities and group/pair quizzes. Cons: can be very rude and there were multiple students throughout the session that he lectured, would give quizzes ahead of what the calendar said and not say so until the day of, if upset he will take it out on the class
Had him for 112, Very tough grader and a total perfectionist. I hated my life until I dropped. Acts nice but grades way too harsh, even on small things. Makes big mistakes himself but won't tolerate any from students. Quizzes are super hard and always at the end of lab when everyone is already tired!. Just run
Took this class for a summer course, Cerritos is already known for taking chem very srsly so just beware of that. He was a good professor when in a good mood but when upset he would take it out on the class. The discussions were graded harshly too. But overall an okay professor.
I did not feel supported, encouraged, or RESPECTED as a learner. He is NOT a professor who foster growth and meaningful learning. If you are seeking a fair, clear, and student-centered learning experience, I would recommend avoiding him at all costs!!!
Condescending and often rude. Keeps students past class time and creates an uncomfortable atmosphere. Seems to be trying, but his tone and attitude make learning stressful. Needs major improvement in professionalism and communication.
Took this class because it fit the best into my schedule, but the teacher definitely knew the material he was teaching. Tests and homework were hard, but when I asked for help he took the time to explain some problems to me.
Professor Flores is not a teacher that sounds particularly nice and welcoming for starters so if that is what you are looking for then sign up somewhere else. He is a good teacher though and was very helpful whenever I did ask questions. He is a hard grader, but I am considering pre-med and I expect that my classes will be similar to this later on
exams and assignments are straight forward. go to class and ask questions
i didn't do too well this semester and fell behind from the start, but when I did finally talk to professor flores around the end of the semester, he did what he could to meet me where I was. Ask questions when you need help and go to office hours
it's sad to see people taking their frustrations of not doing well in this class on the professor. It is clear that he cares about his students and he is a good teacher. There is a difference between a bad teacher and taking a tough class.
This man on here like its he personal Yelp page! He creates his own positive reviews. Don't believe the positive reviews because they're fake! Unclear guidelines, he makes a lot of mistakes, unfair grading, takes points off for grammar and spelling. This is a chemistry class, not English. English is not everyone's primary language.
Unapproachable and condescending. This professor is by far the worse in my college experience. This is a REAL review. Positive reviews are fake. There's no way in hell there are 100+ people that had positive experience with this teacher. Homework heavy, forces students to just sit there doing nothing so he can remain "clocked in" to get paid.
Not a good prof. Makes students just sit there while he doesn't teach so he can sit on the clock. I don't mind homework, but only negative feedback received on homework or exams. No leniency. Forgets he's "teaching students". Unrealistic expectations. Excessive homework.
Excessive homework, poor teaching skills, unapproachable, constantly complains about personal life, constantly complains about his teaching status at the school, tough grader, unmotivated, tough grader, extremely poor quality teacher.
it's sad to see people taking their frustrations of not doing well in this class on the professor. It is clear that he cares about his students and he is a good teacher. There is a difference between a bad teacher and taking a tough class. What's really sad is when a teacher has to keep writing good reviews about themself.
i didn't do too well this semester and fell behind from the start, but when I did finally talk to professor flores around the end of the semester, he did what he could to meet me where I was. Ask questions when you need help and go to office hours. Do not recommend
exams and assignments are straight forward. go to class and ask questions. But it won't help
Professor Flores is not a teacher that sounds particularly nice and not welcoming for starters so if that is not what you are looking for. He is a bad teacher though and was very unhelpful whenever I did ask questions. He is a hard grader, but I am considering pre-med and I expect that my classes will be similar to this later on
Took this class because it fit the best into my schedule, but the teacher definitely new to teaching. Tests and homework were hard, but when I asked for help he took the time to explain some problems to me. Horrible experience.
BEWARE OF THIS PROFESSOR! Very difficult professor to learn from, also disrespectful and rude to students. He's not helpful when you ask questions, and on top of that, he's a tough grader. Taking his class is a nightmare, a waste of money, and I would not recommend.
Professor Flores created a hostile, unsupportive environment. Consistently unprofessional, and condescending demeanor discouraged participation. Requests for clarification were met with sarcasm, and office hours were unhelpful. Feedback on assignments was often vague and harshly critical. Avoid if you expect basic respect and constructive guidance
Professor Flores expectations were confusing and inconsistent. Assignments lacked clear rubrics, and final grades felt arbitrary, making it impossible to track progress or improve. The professor rarely responded to questions about grading standards, making the entire course stressful and unfair. Avoid if you value clarity and consistent assessment.
Rude and dismissive. Assignments vague, feedback harsh and not helpful. Would not recommend
If you want clear instruction, look elsewhere. Professor constantly snaps at students and gives condescending answers. Grades feel arbitrary. Stressful class environment.
terrible communication. assignments are unclear, then he berates people for not knowing what he meant. don't believe the positive reviews!
Horrible professor, will not take class again, very rude and disrespectful. Would not answer any questions I had about the class and referred me to the syllabus. He said “ can I read the syllabus before asking questions” in a very demeaning voice and rude. Throughout the course he kept his rude tone to all the students. I could not take it so I drop
Avoid at all costs. Prof. Doe's chemistry lectures were rushed, confusing, and completely unengaging. Their grading felt arbitrary, and they were unhelpful in office hours. I learned everything from outside resources. This course severely tested my patience and enthusiasm for the subject. A truly frustrating academic experience.
Let me start by prefacing chem 111 is NOT an easy class. The material is quite challenging.I'm in his Mon/Wed class and the only reason I'm writing this review is to discredit the sudden chain of disparaging reviews he's gotten in the last 3 days.Very obviously a personal vendetta.Flores is always available to help when asked. He's a great professor.
Decided to hop on to leave a review after seeing all the negative reviews flooding in from obviously from a digruntled student. Professor Flores has always been helpful. The class isn't easy. If you struggled it's because you didn't do your work or ask for help. It's not this teachers fault that you aren't resourceful lol.
Writing because my group and I saw the negative responses and want to stick up for our teacher. I approached him when I really needed help and was falling behind and he did everything to meet me halfway. It's sad that someone has nothing better to do than to dehumanize someone on a website. Professor Flores is clear and helpful. I recommend him.
I don't know why people are leaving bad reviews regarding his behavior. In perspective, I come to class late almost every lecture, but he still marks me for attendance despite having mandatory attendance, he is very understanding. The quizzes and exams are group and after the first exam he gives extra credit, giving people a second chance.
Decided to leave a review after seeing some rude and dishonest comments. Chemistry isn't easy, and the Cerritos Chemistry Department truly prepares students for UC/ CSU standards. Professor Flores teaches well, offers extra credit, and genuinely cares about his students. If you're not willing to work or think critically, that's just a skill issue.
One of the most understanding and compassionate professors I've met. Genuinely cares about students' mental health and checks in often. Always available and responds quickly. The class moves fast, but lectures and outlines are clear. Gives group exams and quizzes to encourage discussion.
Flores is like the flowers who teaching finesses my brain. As I enter his class room he draws me in like the IMF forces within. Our bond is stronger than hydrogen and no amount of force can break us apart. External pressure may come but we keep it cool and stay solid throughout. He a good a prof.
There is a difference between a "strict" professor and a "fair" professor, although I admit he can seem intimidating at times, he had never been unfair. He is a man of his word, and as long as you follow through what he says as a student there is no chance you should fail. He is one of the more generous professors giving group quizzes.
I have taken 111 and 112 with Flores, there is not a chance he doesn't respect/care about his students. I say this because I have had friends who made mistakes or had a bad week, and if you talked to him he is always considerate and allowing for anyone to take a step back. Whenever I had a problem, even at 1 am he responds instantly. One of a kind.
lot's of homework, disrespectful to students, demeaning behavior, unapproachable. chemistry is a difficult subject but is even more difficult when the professor is also difficult to deal with. positive reviews are extremely inaccurate. unfair grading. take at your own risk.
AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL. Did I say awful? YESSS. Unclear and tough grading. Points taken off for frivolous things that other Chem teachers do not normally take points off. Not sure what his grading or teaching style is, but it is not conducive to a positive learning experience. Lecture is difficult to follow in addition to an absurd amount of hw.
Great professor yes a lot of HW/ Reading just really wants you to understand the concepts + go to office hours and Ask Questions! Also attend tutoring if you need help high density of material and moves fast! Amazing professor and he wants you to succeed In his class if you try!
Professor Flores cares for his students. He is forthright; don't be afraid to ask him questions. You could also ask him personally if the classroom setting bothers you. It is a tough class; you need to understand stuff conceptually. Need to prioritize this class in many ways; take this class when you can actually focus on chemistry.
Professor Flores is a good Professor. He offers a lot of extra credit opportunities, and gives many opportunities to take your grade up. he offers office hours for extra help and overall he is a fair Professor.
John Flores is an amazing professor. He's clear about grading, explains exactly what he expects, and keeps everything organized. His tests are fair, and if you understand the content and practice the Canvas worksheets, you'll be fine. He truly wants students to succeed.
He is good. Give extra credit. Grading is hard. Gives options for group exams.
Professor Flores is an amazing professor who genuinely cares for his students. However, he will not take any B.S. You have to put in your part as well; there are no excuses. Your effort in this course will determine your grade. He lectures well and quizzes your knowledge, which is very beneficial to you it shows you what you need to work on.
Professor Flores is one of the best professors at Cerritos College. He truly cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed. He offers extra credit, helpful office hours, and explains chemistry in a way that makes it easier to understand. I don't even need to take Chemistry 112, but I would 100% take it with Professor Flores.
Flores is a thoughtful, through, assertive but kind professor. He's assertive when it comes to deadlines and lack of communication which is reasonable and prep for the world outside of college. He gives a lot of opportunities to students with EC, office hours, and group assignments. His lectures are clear and concise and he's funny and personable.
Professor Flores is a caring professor. Very clear about what to expect in test/exam and grading. His tests are fair, and is willing to help you, if you don't understand the material as he really wants his students to succeed.
One of my favorite type of teachers in this college. He's a tough grader and is strict about understanding material. Will help you understand material and pass the class. Extra Credit, Test Corrections, Options for Group Exams, and Quizzes. Very accommodating, but you need to work hard in order to see results.
Professor Flores can seem intimidating but if you pay attention and participate he's very nice. His lectures are good and prepares you for the exams. The class isn't easy but he provides extra credit and extra practice problems on Canvas. His chem classes are meant to prepare chemistry majors when transferring to uni or for research opportunities.
Professor flores is a caring, funny, and knowledgeable man. Class is hard but its chemistry. If you don't put in the work you won't pass. He has office hours and is helpful. Would recommend! He really cares for his students, he might be a little strict but its because he really cares.
Professor Flores can be scary at first but through time you can see that he's truly trying to help students. A lot of feedback is given on exams and weekly quizzes, which helps with future ones. Lectures can be heavy and fast-paced so you have to push yourself to really understand the concepts. Asking questions is both helpful and recommended!
Professor Flores is a very kind teacher. Though he may come off as intimidating, he is strict because he expects the best from his students - He gives enough help to have these expectations! He acknowledges its a hard class but he is there so you don't have to struggle alone. Take advantage of this.
Professor Flores is by far one of the most caring and difficult professors I have ever had. His exams are really difficult and require you to fully understand the material. However, he is very caring and gave us many opportunities for extra credit to help improve our grades.
Professor Flores is genuinely a great professor. He is pretty indimitating, and a bit harsher in the first months of the semester, but it's to prepare you well for exams. He means well. He is generous when grading but only if you show active participation and actual attempt. Apply yourself, reach out for understanding when needed, and communicate!
Professor Flores is very helpful if you have any concerns or questions. He is easily accessible in person and online. He can be a tough grader, but he gives good feedback to what you can change.
In the beginning he can come off as a hard teacher. But he does care about his students and wants to make sure that you understand the material and is always willing to help. There is a lot of homework and quizzes, but a good portion of the quizzes are grouped. You can 100% succeed this class, it will be challenging but it's possible.
He is a horrible teacher. He pretends to be nice at first, then his true colors will shine. He's condescending and take off points if he doesn't like you. But if he likes you, he'll be a lighter grader. He makes a lot of mistakes on his classwork so there's that part.
Professor Flores is a good educator and gives you a lot of chances to succeed in class. While the class was difficult, he gives you opportunities to succeed such as exam corrections and the environment encourages cooperation between classmates without forcing group projects. my advice in this class would be to be prepared for quiz every lecture.
Professor Flores is genuinely an amazing professor. He wants you to succeed and gives you every opportunity to do so. Chem 111 is a difficult class, it's definitely a step above 110 however, you can achieve success with dedication and commitment. Don't be scared to ask him questions, he recognizes students who are trying their best.
