Very boring but his tests aren't too bad if you study. He likes to go off in tangents about things not even closely related to what you're learning, so it can boring.
Can teach, but goes off on tangents more than covering material. He is great at applications and seeing why you actually learn something rather than simple book learning.
DONT TAKE HIS LAB!! HE NEVER SAYS WHAT HE REALLY WANTS, JUST WHAT HE DOESNT WANT!!
learn a lot from his lab. good prof willing to spend time with students. can also be a good friend rather than just prof
I wouldn't recommend this guy. I did fine in his lab, but since he didn't like what the lecture prof wanted him to do he made us do the same thing 3 weeks in a row. also, he gives a final exam in a lab. most profs dont give lab exams.
His homework assignments are hard but he is more than willing to help you during his office hours. He'll actually do the problems with you. His tests are easy if you know your stuff. Very knowledgeable about chemistry.
This man is smart, challenging, helpful, and great in lab.
This is the chem teacher u want, he helps u so much. tests are easy if your smart.. He is very good teacher..
this was his first 106 class, and the man was a tard. so boring in class, we kept track of his rotating sweater collection. intelligent man, he just isnt the best teacher, at least of sci106. he got mad ppl left during breaks & starting numbering papers.
Dr. Ford was cool as hell. He graded VERY easily and i dont think i missed 4 points the whole semester. He never yelled and always let us do what we wanted. I also learned alot from him... he did his post-doc at HARVARD..he isn't stupid.
Nice guy, definatly knows what he is talking about. Tests can get hard if you dont read the book, but he does give a good amount of extra credit on tests in terms of problems to solve. Seems willing to give help also to people that need it, and tries to get points across in class clearly.
He is great guy, very nice, very helpful, grades fairly and honestly seems to care. And on the other hand sometimes he rambles on tangants a bit and makes some of the material sound Soo dry that you cant listen, pay attention or even care. Hes a good guy, I'd take him again but its rough sometimes
I think If I was actually interested in chemistry I could have learned a lot from this guy. When I actually studied I did pretty well, read the chapters, take notes in class and pay attention. It's not easy but not hard either.
Very nice guy but no one knew what he really expected of us. He frequently reminded us we were substandard chemists because we didn't know as much as he thought we should have. He never returns graded work & u'll have no idea how u r doing. Demanded too much work, tedious, lectures were unorganized.
His insatiable and inexplicable desire to ramble and prattle on about the most insipid**** is unbelievable. He is extremely arrogant and lazy. He is anal only when convenient. The class material was easy but he made it hard. Grades based upon dart board theory.
He is by far the worst professor I've had for lab. He come to lab unprepared, is extremely unclear, changes his mind continuously and uses words I don't even think are in the dictionary. He talks to you like you're stupid. I would never recommend him.
He's arrogant and his grades are based upon the dart board theory. He rambled on about EDTA for a month!! We learned nothing. Tests were too hard, disappeared during lab to play solitaire, never returned work, yells because we don't know more BUT HELLO! it is your IUP chem dept. that didn't teach us
He is very unhelpful. Tells you to go to office hours but then doesnt help you. does not give straight forward answers. goes off and changes subject all the time. very hard to follow notes. you have one test its the midterm all year until the final which does not help to learn any mistakes that you make because the rest of the quizzes are on webCT
Horrible. Very unclear, off topic, and unhelpful. Makes you feel stupid upon asking questions, and gives a run-around answer when you ask one. I would never take him again EVER.
You dont even have to go to class. I say take this class, never go, and just read your book... you will get an A. I did and it was super easy.
The WORST. Laughs at himself all the time for no reason. His test have very little to do with his notes; And yes he really does make you feel stupid! Treats everyone as if they are chem majors. I would not recommend taking him!
Probably the worst teacher I've ever had. He bounced around a molecule for an entire class and rambled on about gold or something. I suggest don't go to class, just look at the notes online. But that probably will not help you either since his notes have pretty much nothing to do with what the test composes of.
Dr. Ford is the worst teacher I've had at IUP. His lectures are dry and long, and his exams are ridiculously hard. He treats a 100 level science class like its a graduate class at harvard.
Expects way to much out of his non chem major students. Tests were hard and class was extremely boring
Expects way to much out of his non chem major students. Tests were hard and class was extremely boring
He teaches way above everyone's head. Expects everyone to know everything even though he says he doesn't. This is a basic science course and he acts like we all are chem majors. However in lab he is a different person entirely and is very helpful. Do not take for lecture but okay for lab!
We took 2 tests, handed in 3 papers and several assignments and he never returned anything. I doubt he actually graded anything and he probably just assigned random A's and B's.
Nice guy, can have an attitude though. He says it how it is. boring class, pretty hard if you dont study. he puts notes online & you take online quizzes a lot.
I had Dr. Ford for SCI 106. My most challenging course as of yet. He expects us to know chem terminology and whatnot and flies through material. He's nice tough.
This guy is HORRIBLE. Thinks that by teaching chem he is saving lives. This guy finds joy in watching others who know nothing about chem struggle. He puts quizzes up on webct, they all end at 11:55 pm...all of a sudden he puts one up that ends at 11:55 AM. Why esle do that unless you are trying to make people fail, and finds it amusing. HORRIBLE
Oh my goodness he is terrible! at one point the entire class had sucked on a test and he sent out an email saying that since we all got the same questions wrong that we were not studying. OR MAYBE YOU JUST CAN"T TEACH
Extremely boring, thinks he's funny and he's not, and he can't see past the 3rd row of seats so sit in the back. Tests aren't too easy but I lucked out and got an A. It's good to go to class because he puts a lot of stuff he shows us in class on tests. I don't recommend him AT ALL.
I have him for chem lab. I'm getting an A in lecture and even though I clearly understand those concepts he confuses me to no end. He chooses not to use the helpful course manual and sets the WebCT quizzes so you don't know which questions you got wrong for the retry. He tries to help and is a nice guy, but he makes lab harder than it has to be.
He got rid of all the tests except for the final so your entire grade is based off of ridiculous online quizes.Lecture is excessively boring and useless.Hes a nice guy and great in lab, but not a good prof.
This man is the worst teacher I've ever had. He's rude, impossible to understand, and makes his students literally cry. He's yelled at his class because everyone got the lab wrong, like it was all our fault we didn't understand. He says we are chemists, not students, and expects us to know everything already. Big attitude problem. Avoid at all cost
Great for lab terrible for lecture. In lab he shows you exactly how to do everything and is very helpful. His class is stright lecture where he mixes info you need with random facts that you don't need to know and he doesn't tell you which info is the one you need. Alot of WebCT quizzes count for I think 60% of your grade. Take someone else.
You don't have to go to class because all of the notes are online. Lab counts as 30% Webct60% and final 10%. He lets you take them webct quizzes at least 3 times and counts the highest grade. Take this class if you want to do very little work and get a decent grade or put in the effort and get an A
He is nice, but he talks down to you on as if your and idiot. He will tell you that chem. is the only thing to major in. he uses webct for quizzes and makes them so they are six hours apart from each other. If you talk to him one on one he tries to help, but if he is talking to the whole class you will make you like stupid. Would not take him again
Really hard! No one understood what to do for the lab reports or what he wanted. Very nice guy but makes class rough!
He is absolutely horrible!! I've been at IUP for 3 years and he is the worst professor I've had yet. He rushes through slides and when asked to go back he down talks the student and says "You can either write fast or sit and get frustrated, I don't care..." his online quizzes are 5 questions a piece which is ridiculous. Awful, don't take him
Boring! He's the worst and doens't help you at all. Everythin is lecture and quizes online, which have NOTHING to do with his lecture. Can't look answers up online, too hard and no time. Don't buy the book its useless. Fninal was on the essays we had to write so read them
HE IS AWFUL! Very nice guy but he expects way too much for general chemistry. Read your book its more helpful!
Do not bother going to class, just go to the labs! The online quizzes are pretty easy, you can use your book or just google the answers because his wacky notes won't help you. The labs are so easy it's like 6th grade chem stuff! His lecture is super pointless cause all he does is ramble and is notes wont help you with the quizzes.
This is a hard course, plain and simple so you can't really blame him for the tests being hard. He does tend to ramble, but it is usually almost on topic. He cares a lot about his students and wants them to succeed but he will not just give you the answers like some people seem to want. This is a 300 hundred level chem class so expect work.
Worst professor I've ever had!! Don't take him!! Rude & no sympathy for students. I had him for lecture & lab. His lectures are not useful at all! I tried to pay attention & take notes but the content is never used & never applied to quizzes or lab. At least the labs are decent, he goes through the experiment throughly.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS He is a nice guy but expects way too much out of chemistry 102 students The average on our mid-term was a 45% and he did not curve itYou are only graded on quizzes and two exams
He gives you a ton of information and you don't have a clue what will be on his exams. He only has a midterm and a final too.
Doesn't take attendance, gives over 15 online quizzes + 7 in-class quizzes. avg on his midterm was 45% and very angrily refused to curve. the final was vary hard. basically if you are a chem major, take it i guess, but if your trying to get that chem requirement out of the way, do not pick him.
He made me very angry when i received a C in his class because i know i deserved a B with all the effort i put in. He didn't curve, taught you everything except what going to be on the 2 exams, and was the worst and most boring professor i have ever had. TAKE DR. HEROLD for chem 2 dont make the mistake i did when i decided to take him.
He's a nice guy and all but DO NOT TAKE HIM. He flies through chapters and doesn't explain anything. He has online quizzes and in class quizzes to help with your grade. His lectures aren't mandatory, but you'll need to go to every one to get a decent grade. I learned everything because my friends were taking the same class with a different teacher
I had him for a chem 102 lab. He is nice and he does make the labs easy just come to lab prepared. He can be kinda a smart as. and sarcastic. You have to learn to laugh at his jokes and not take offense to them. Overall he is a little difficult but just do you work and you should be fine.
Worst professor I have taken yet. He is sarcastic, rude and thinks it's hilarious. He encourages help but tends to make fun of you when you ask and then does not explain things clearly. You have to hand in lab report that day and he grades on a very low scale (0-4.) He is intimidating and made lab the worst day of my week. Avoid him if possible.
I had him for just chem 102 lecture. The only good thing he did was have a bunch of quizzes online instead of lecture exams. His final was cumulative, so if you do well on your quizzes and in lab you should be fine. His lectures were extremely boring and he tends to go off topic. SI saved me in the class, so go if you have him!
had for chemistry for everyone which right there should tell you it wasn't that hard. John is a nice guy and you can tell he truly loves chemistry and what he does. Lectures were long and boring but you only had two test and like a 10 point quiz each week online.
He can come across as a jerk, but he really is not that bad. If you show up to class and have at least basic understanding you should be fine. He goes fast, but if you ask him to explain something, he will try to help. He expects you to read. Online quizzes aren't too bad.
I loved Dr. Ford. He may be tough on his students but if you study and get familiar with the material there's no reason you shouldn't get a good grade.
Did not learn a single thing in this class.. Took a whole class period to watch a video on spider silk? Which had nothing to do with organic chem?? No exams just online quizzes and a final worth 10% of your grade
Horrible professor DO NOT TAKE!! Barely teaches you tells you to remember things and doesn't put them on the test. He will tell u to do example problems from the book and great you might understand them. But guess what the problems on the test will be very confusing and nothing like you learned not practiced. GOD SPEED if you take him
I did not like him. Sometimes he was very arrogant and if you asked him a question he would not answer it and make you seem stupid for asking. The good thing about him was that he dropped the lowest grade you had, other than that i do not think i could take him. Talked way too much before all the labs.
Took for CHEM101 Lab. The labs were easy, but he talked very fast. He sounds sarcastic, but it might just be his normal voice. The final is cumulative and only 10 questions. It was very hard, but the lab is only like 25% of your overall chem grade.
Had him only for chem lab. I found him very arrogant and I was afraid to ask questions because he makes you feel stupid. He grades hard on lab reports and prelabs, wouldn't recommend. He did explain the labs well though, that was appreciated.
DO NOT TAKE. I wish I would have read the comments on here before I scheduled. This guy acts like Chemistry is the most important thing in the world and expects you to feel the same way. His notes are useless and unless you read the book before hand and take your own notes, you'll have no idea what is happening. He is also very arrogant.
Literally the worst professor to ever exist. Does not teach in class and expects you to know how to do everything. Only gives 2 exams which are the midterm and final. Rude, sarcastic, and thinks that you are stupid if you don't know the answer. Does not teach at all and I have no idea how he is still a professor. Avoid at all costs.
I only missed one class this entire semester, studied my butt off for like 20 hours a week and went to almost all the SI tutoring sessions. He doesn't teach and wants you to know everything. He expects you to listen and hang on every word he said, which would be fine if he didn't criticize you for taking notes. He's sarcastic and disrespectful.
Ford was a really tough teacher. We only have 2 exams- midterm and final and they were both next to impossible. If you put in the work you can definitely pass, but it is a tough class. The only reason i passed was because of the quizzes. Got a 37 & 33 on the exams and I just don't recommend him at all if you can avoid it.
Ford was a very tough teacher. He has a mid term and final and both are very challenging. However, there are many opportunities to elevate your grade with the online quizzes, in-class quizzes, etc. I studied every day and 30 hours for each test. Also attended every SI (very helpful). I got a high A - so it is possible.
He is the worst professor i've had and i sadly had him for lab too! The lectures are way to long and confusing, he embarrasses people who don't know the correct answer. I really did not like him at all.
Very funny guy if you like sarcasm. I did not attend about 5-8 classes, didn't attend one SI meeting and still ended up up with a B in his class. If you pay attention and study a few times over the week you will be fine. Highly recommended.
Dr. Ford is the worst. He once said "Youll do better next year" and when someone sneezed he told them to shutup. Very rude. Doesn't really teach. Tests are nothing like we do in class. Labs are boring.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Ford is highly belittling and honestly makes learning dreadful. The arrogant manner in which he presents himself is ridiculous. He constantly says he is going to do something and just doesnt. Out of 14 assignments I have received grades for 4. Each time I leave his classroom I feel so inferior and usually just want to cry.
Probably going to take the L if you take Ford. Midterm average was a 52%. Expects you to put in super human effort into his class like the world depends on it. Will shout and scream when class preforms poorly. Will tell you to "read the text book" if you have any questions.
While I really didn't like Dr. Ford, it's very hard to fail this class. He explains everything you'll be doing at the beginning of class and sometimes would set up the entire mathematical side of the experiment for you. If you ask for help, he'll come around and will usually give you hints to the answer. Sometimes rude and sarcastic.
Do not take this class, this professor is not helpful at all and is extremely rude. He will randomly call you out in classs and gives a 12 page final.
Very rude and condescending in class. Will pick on people and embarrass them during lecture. Will sometimes hand out participation points in class (go to class because those are the only things that will help you pass). Haven't touched the book once all year and was okay. Expects the most and assumes his students should all be chemists.
Dr. Ford is known to be one of the hardest Chem teachers on campus. Usually he's known for 400-500 level classes. His class is hard and yes you do have to work for the grade! I stressed all semester over his class. BUT because it is SO HARD he has no choice but to curve A LOT, so if you hang in there it's not impossible to easily get an A or B!!!
I had Dr. Ford for Chemistry for Teachers. He is a nice, down to earth person and he wants the best for you. However, he does not realize how hard his lectures and tests are. He is used to teaching higher level courses. His lab classes are easier and more laid back. He grades tests very fairly.
Do not take him if you're taking him for a general chemistry. I am sure he is good for the higher level chemistry, but for a general chemistry lab, he makes me feel stupid. I try and ask question but when he answers them he confused me more and was kind of condescending. I wasn't a chemistry major and he didn't really try and help make it easier.
Took this course in highschool and passed with an A+, only difference? The professor does not give one crap if you pass his class. It amazes me that someone higher up hasn't made a complaint about so many students failing. The only things that graded are tests and the final. SO beyond ridiculously hard, no one passes any test. DO NOT TAKE. for any
Expects you to know everything about chemistry. I suggest studying your lecture material really well before going to lab (it might help).
Dr. Ford is the worst professor I've had. He is EXTREMELY hard and believes that everyone legit needs to know every little thing he teaches even though hes said in class that he know some students don't need to know. This is a lower chem course and im struggle SO MUCH. He is rude and randomly calls on students to answer questions. DOES NOT CURVE!!!
Doctor Ford is next to impossible. He is not easy to talk to and you often will find yourself asking why you put yourself in this predicament. He does explain stuff throughly if you go to office hours. Go to lecture, study, and apply other resources. Do what you have to just to get by.
I had Dr. Ford for my Chem 101 lab and I really enjoyed having him as my prof. He always makes sure to go over the lab procedures before he lets you begin and always checks to assure that what he's saying makes sense to everyone. During the class, he walks around and is always available to help students when they have questions.
Not only does this professor teach the WRONG material for Nutrition based Bio-Chem but he does not explain what he is teaching. The entire class has no idea whats going on. He is not willing to help us with material and when he does every once and awhile he teaches stuff thats NOT ON THE TEST. Please dont take this Professor.
Dr. Ford is a great professor! He definitely challenges his students but is always available to help. He provided the tests from previous years to study, which was super helpful. We had random in class quizzes as well. If you study the notes for a little bit after each class, this class is not nearly as difficult as everybody will tell you.
Dr. Ford is a highly intelligent man who makes chemistry pretty interesting and easy to understand. I had him for lab and he always made sure everyone understood what needs to be done, and even made us not have to do most parts in the lab because he thought they were useless. Easy to ask questions to, he'll make fun of you but doesn't mean any harm
During the online classes he told the entire class that he was "ignoring emails except for the ones who were experiencing technical difficulties". He does not listen to what you are telling him. He interrupts you when you are speaking and does not let you finish until he is done. He does not communicate plans and thinks he does nothing wrong.
He is very annoying and hard to follow. He gets mad for asking simple questions or if we are right and he is wrong. He doesn't teach well and tells us useless information about each problem he goes over. Do not take him he is an awful professor.
Dr. Ford is a sweet man and he cares about his students but don't bother asking him a question because he will get mad that you don't understand the material. A few weeks ago he had us take a test and told us that we had to teach ourselves chapter 4. Some of us haven't had chemistry since high school & most of us never learned this stuff. Good luck
Worst professor ever. Do everything you can to never have him. He doesn't answer your questions and makes you feel stupid.
Dr. Ford is very difficult. Not accessible outside of class, explained nothing on the labs, you must teach yourself everything. Even then, his lab reports and quizzes were nothing like the experiment. Very passive aggressive when he sent emails once a month. I strongly recommend you don't take him for your own education + well-being!!
Made an in person Chem lab 100% online. Never communicated with students. Waits until end of semester to grade labs/quizzes. Lab quizzes were nothing like the lab videos that we watched.
most of the material is very hard to understand and he does not answer questions or emails. Reads off of PP and expects you to read everything in the book since most of the test questions are based off of the reading. There is only about 100 total points in the class. do whatever you can to avoid taking him, especially if the class is online.
This professor was the hardest one Ive ever had. I got an A in the class, but wow I had to work way to hard for a science 102 course. Did not give study guides or explain well and makes the test super hard. Content quizzes were annoying. Tons of labs also and he graded those hard as well.
Prof. Ford never puts grades in so you never know what your grade is. If you email him about a question or need help more than often he is not going to answer and when he does he has attitude and is not nice at all. He teaches as if you should know everything already and doesn't give you proper things to actually know how to do an assignment.
