Dr. Fortenberry is so easy. He doesn't teach he makes the class take field trips and when he lectures it is for only 30-45 mins. He always make the students do projects that are dumb healthcare tools. He tries to hard to make the class like being in a job.
I think the man is devoted and tries to challange his classes. Thank God for a professor that is concerned about his students futures. Also, since the department has become business accrediated, there are no field trips or easy classes.
Nice guy and one of the most dedicated in the college. I probably learned more in this class than any other that semester. One of the few teachers to bring in professionals in the business- makes a profound difference on understanding the industry and can possibly get you a job.
we are required to purchase his book!!I really thought he would was going to teach our class about the field of study. However he had the class memorize the book information, as well as take tests that weren't revelant to what we were learning in regard to the field of study, this is a masters program I wouldn't suggest you waste your money!
Dr. Fortenberry is a great professor. This is my first class with him, but I am entering the MHA program as well. He is devoted to his students, and he cares about his student's future. The tests are not easy, but he makes up for that by offering participation (attendance) grades if you speak up in class. I recommend him for any class.
Only two projects represented your grade for the whole course. Busy work was required to be turned in other weeks but not part of your final grade. Made high B's on both of my projects but received an A in the class so assuming he curved. Very picky on DETAILS for assigned papers, like headers, page numbers etc. Both projects were over 10 pages
Wasn't that hard of a class.
I enjoyed this class much more than I had anticipated. The projects were very involved, but I really found it easy to immerse myself in them. He knows this subject inside and out, backward and forward and is a wealth of knowledge. Super responsive and engaged in the student experience. One of the many classes that I would take again.
When communicating with him, he seems like he has no time to talk to you. Although, all of his study materials are fair game on test, the tests are fair. Will see how other classes go.
Dr. Fortenberry is the dean of the MHA program and advisor and professor of about half the classes. Understandably, he is very busy but the students he serves definitely suffer. DO NOT expect helpful responses to emails. Very picky on tests, a lot of your questions are T or F with one insignificant word changed or asking of professors opinion.
Lots of reading and 1500+ word papers, ample time to complete. put forth effort to pass
Dr. Fortenberry makes you pay attention to the little details. If students follow his directions then they will do very well in his class. However, if they stray away from his directions then their grade will reflect as such.
He gives you the ability to invest in your own education. The more you invest, the easier the assignments are. He doesn't give busy work, only the necessities.
Easy A if you do the assignments.
Dr. Fortnberry classes are the easy if you read the required material and pay attention to detail.
Best thing about his class is it is not stressful.
Great professor, even though it is 100% online he gives strict instructions and enough guidance to help you get through the course.
This class was very fun and Dr. Fortenberry does a great job at teaching it. He cares about student performance
If you follow directions you will do well in this course
The format of his courses are truly amazing! I highly recommend taking his courses if you want to be prepared in the "real world"!
He's a great professor
Compliance matters! If you carefully read what is expected you will be able to succeed in his courses.
I learned a lot of valuable information in this class
Great Professor! Wish he taught every class
Great class filled with important information!
Great readings and great topics.
I couldn't ask for better! Yes, there is a lot of reading, but it's a grad course. The material is very helpful and applicable to daily management. The papers to write aren't long but they are designed to be content rich. No copy and paste here. Work hard, do the reading, and pay attention to his detailed instructions and due dates.
Major is Masters in Healthcare Administration
Great format. I would rather write about the topics being covered over traditional exams.
Pay close attention to guidelines when composing papers. Detail is extremely important.
Great course. I still remember blue ocean and red ocean markets from a previous course. I will continue to use his courses in my field of practice. Great practitioner applications.
He lets you know exactly what he wants. Stay on top of assignments and you will do great!
My favorite professor so far. I enjoy and learn a great deal in his classes. All papers/ no tests, but you learn a lot from writing the papers. PAY ATTENTION TO DETAIL & you will do fine. He is understanding and cares should you have a personal situation that impacts your school work. Fair grading. You get what you put into it. MHA program student.
Thank you for everything, Dr. Fortenberry! See you at graduation!! :)
Dr. Fortenberry's teaching style and communication are excellent.
Read directions closely
I love his technique of teaching. He holds us responsible for our own growth and success.
I have taken several classes from Dr. Fortenberry. He always relates the material to real life; you don't feel as if you are memorizing a bunch of things that you will never remember later. He gives many tips that can be used in your future career.
Dr. Fortenberry is an excellent professor. His syllabus is clear and concise. There are never any surprises and his expectations are clearly outlined. I enjoyed his class and walk away feeling I learned something that will stay with me and not be forgotten a month after the class.
classes are exactly as presented - ample time given to complete assignments
He is a great educator. Very clear regarding what he expects and what he asks for which makes the student life easier if he follows his directions.
Informative class, I prefer to read and do practioner applications that he makes us do than actual test any day. It's more hands on as to how you would handle a situation of your own. Meet the deadlines, participate with classmates, and follow instructions then you should be fine.
This class is well structured and designed well to fit into my busy work schedule.
Fortenberry is great if you're organized and top of things. He assigns four things per section, all short and easy. All are completely doable if you know what you're talking about within a day. If you dont have a good idea about the healthcare market, you'll need to do some outside research but overall, easy,. Definitely recommend.
very professional; has high expectations for students; maintains level of excellence for himself as well.
I really enjoyed the layout of the course and the topics discussed within the class.
If I had the choice to take his class for every course, I'd take it without hesitation. I was bumped from his last semester and it was a disaster. Registered super early to ensure I made the cut this time!!! No surprises, no curveballs. Just consistency and clarity.
Have had Dr. F for several classes now, I have enjoyed all of them. He uses updated articles on the healthcare industry, the textbook is available on LSUS databases. Dr. F sets clear standards for his classes and uses a consistent schedule. Typically 4 modules (2 weeks each) with a poll, discussion board, journal entry, and research paper.
great instructor
Awesome
Really like the structure of the course.
Great course layout. The grading criteria is not clear and he provides no feedback to improve
The course outline is very well displayed. Follow directions and you will do well.
Tough Class
The course is laid out very clearly and no curveballs unless writing research papers aren't your thing. A well-versed prof who obviously has years of experience and many books/articles under his belt.
A lot of reading.
Great professor! Doesn't overload you with assignments, but rather focuses on the quality of the work/course content.
I enjoyed his class.
All good! Love his courses.
Great Professor!
This class is very structured. There are a lot of papers, but it is very doable. I really like this professor's class because of the way it is structured. I work full-time, and I am still able to get my homework done in time. I would definitely recommend this professor!
Excellent course. Instructions were clear and straightforward.
Great professor with excellent practitioner application topics. I will be taking his course again.
This is the best professor I have ever had! Highly recommended!
Not very personable to interact with, with little interaction with him you realize he thinks way too much of himself. General vibe of just a not good person or loathes himself. Cares more about how you put him on a pedestal than helping you learn. Arrogant for sure. It's sad people like this who don't actually care about students run programs.
Due to the size of the online class, we did not receive any personalized feedback on assignments. When students asked for clarification on instructions, few were given due to the "graduate level" of the course.
Follow the directions and you will pass. Reading material is a lot over a short period but the short semesters require this.
He is excellent.
Excellent and thought provoking course. Excellent choice of projects and reading materials.
Great application of information to real life.
Dr. F is about a real as they get. Put 100% into your work and hes there. His assignments are on point with the instruction and really get you to thinking. Paying attention to instructions is critical!
Dr. F followed his normal protocol as his other HCAD courses. While I generally enjoy his courses, I might have learned the least in this course. The concepts were less clear and more generalized making me unsure if I was correct in my use of the key concepts on his applications
Great Professor
Dr. FOrtenberry and his colleagues provide quick and useful feedback on assignments
Dr. F provides clear expectations for all of his assignments, follow his instructions and you will succeed in his class.
Great class, informative, great professor
The course material will assist me in my future career, and the assigned reading materials supplied me with useful sources of knowledge. I would recommend that feedback be given on student papers as this can provide students with information to improve and grow.
Gave good feedback without making you feel dumb for asking.
I really like his course structure. Essentially, you have three main papers and some other written assignments. You get plenty of time to complete assignments. Some of his classes have a lot of reading but this course wasn't too bad. Just follow his instructions and you'll do great.
Dr. Fortenberry Has been the most productive of all my instructors in this program. He understands his working students and the challenges we face
Dr. Fortenberry is an excellent teacher. He provides detailed instructions, and when followed you will succeed in his courses.
Dr. Fortenberry is an amazing professor. He is fair, makes you work for your grade, and is diligent in how he sets his class structure up. Will not let you work faster than what should be desired.
Very interesting class, with an opportunity for not only self reflection; but that of my organization as well.
This class provided great knowledge, but the work was there and it had to be done.
This class challenged me beyond my current knowledge. Thank you. There were many terms that I was not familiar with like red/blue oceans and adaptive reuse. I would like to know the results of the polls and how it varied by gender and age.
A few less words when writing would be appreciated. We already have so much to read and are mostly working professionals; rather than students who haven't experienced their first career. The emphasis on (and importance of) attention to detail has already been realized by most of us.
He does well in the structure of the class and I appreciate him giving us masters level work
This was one of my 2 first classes at LSUS. It took me a little time to adjust to a different kind of class delivery. I feel that Prof. Fortenberry was precise in communicating what was expected and stuck to it.
The Professor is very knowledged and gives a lot of resources, so get ready to read and apply yourself
great class
Dr. Fortenberry is a cut above
Great class with good material for graduate class.
HCAD 790 and 780 Healthcare Administration Program Graduate Degree. Dr. Fortenberry is the Program Director, so you expect him to be a no-nonsense type of professor. He is very clear from the beginning on what he expects in his class. Its clear cut (typically 3-4 modules) Each module is a poll, sound off, journal entry and practitioner application
He shows very minimal leniency. If there's a deadline, even if you struggle a bit to complete the assignment and submit it last minute, if it's even a second late, he will still deduct the points. Not really much engagement. Just your typical write papers and submit discussion board type of professor.
He lays out clear expectations. If you follow the syllabus and his reflections, you will succeed. I feel as though I learned a lot and will take this knowledge into my career. He is very knowledgeable about the subject matter and available for help if you need it.
Mr. Fortenberry is a fair grader, however, I hoped that he would've given me a second chance for a simple assignment and understand that I have worked so hard in class. Perhaps the assignments should've been graded differently depending on the weight of assignments, or point value per assignment rather than each being worth 100 pts.
This class and professor was amazing. I took it online. There are 3 modules broken down into two weeks. Pay attention to detail. No tests, only 3 papers requiring academic references. Stay on top of things and you will be fine.
He is one of the best professors in the MHA program! As long as you do your work and follow exactly what he is looking for, then you should easily make an A! This was my second time having him and I got an A in his HCAD740 class as well.
This class is an EASY A. 3 papers, discussion posts and polls. Read any/all instructions clearly. If you have a question he will refuse to answer because this is a graduate level course. Oh, he also will not provide ANY feedback on ANY assignment. I asked for clarification on something and he said "That's the challenge. Good luck." So, good luck!
It can be a little time consuming, it just depends on the person. Every module is due every 2 weeks. So, something will open up and you have 2 weeks to complete it. Only 3 modules total. (Poll, sound-off, journal entry, and practitioner application). Don't wait till the last day to complete things. NO Feedback on anything turned in from him.
Great Professor! Do the work and you will pass the class.
Dr. Fortenberry's time management of his classes really helped to complete the course at your own pace. He presented the material in a way that was easy to understand and gave clear guidelines on expectations and grading. Would highly recommend and take again if given the chance.
Good class. Good info. Lots of writing.
Lots of reading but that's expected given the fact that it is a graduate course. The material was relevant, make sure you read the chapters before attempting written assignments. The Instructions for assignments are clearly communicated and if you stick to them you won't have trouble with the course. Overall, it was a good experience.
Dr. Fortenberry's assignments are always interesting and require student to apply knowledge gleaned from reading material. I learned a lot in this course, HCAD 790, Healthcare Strategic Management, as well as in HCAD 740, Healthcare Marketing, also taught by Dr. Fortenberry.
One of LSUS's best. Professor is published and his materials are up to date and relevant. I highly recommend Dr. Fortenberry.
enjoyed the class, makes you think more than you realize
The usual format for an online class, be ready to write a few papers. If you follow directions and do what you are supposed to you will pass with ease. Don't trip potato chip!
Dr. Fortenberry, is a good professor, he provides all the information you need for the course. You do not have buy any books, you be able to access through the school library system. He explains in detail what is expected as it pertains to all work. When it comes to attendance, it's best to log in everyday or every other. Hopes this helps.
This class was straightforward and organized through all seven weeks. The assignments and expectations were well explained.
This is the second time I had Professor Fortenberry, and his classes are fantastic. I learned a lot, and he gives us enough time to complete our papers, which is ideal for personnel trying to balance work, family, and school life. I highly recommend this course, especially for people seeking a career in healthcare.
Professor Fortenberry is very intelligent and sets the expectations of the course upfront. I think there are too many students for him to provide individual feedback on papers. I understand, but I do like to know how I can improve after turning in assignments. The workload was manageable. I enjoyed the course and learned a lot.
This is a thought provoking class. Just the right amount of work!
Lots of reading but overall great class.
I enjoyed the class!
A video or voice recording would have been appreciated to at least put a voice to the face
I found the marketing class helpful. There was plenty of research to be done on each paper. Dr. Fortenberry laid out his instructions which he required to complete for each session. The only thing was that there wasn't any room to address questions to him with any feedback. Other than that, I enjoyed the course.
No test. Comprehension if corse work is based on short papers due every other week so plenty of time to get work done.
Overall enjoyed the class. 1 module for every 2 weeks with enough reading material to keep you occupied. Journal entries and sound offs are pretty much participation points, which he mentions, but practitioner applications are graded more vigorously. Enjoyed the critical thinking that needed to be done in order to earn the grade.
I enjoyed this class. I would have enjoyed hearing the professor lecture about the course material. THanks.
Dr. Fortenberry makes instructions clear and expects students to follow them.
Pay attention to his instructions and you will do fine. His assignments are answering a poll question, a discussion, a journal entry, and a paper. You get 2 weeks to complete everything so it is not bad. I enjoyed the class. I would take Dr. Fortenberry again.
Professor Fortenberry, I have rate as nice in my first rate my professor. He still is, the only thing is I would suggest, is to watch and make sure your assignments all make it through the upload process, this cost me points from a b to a c. Not happy about this.
This class is incredibly useful for those that work in the business of healthcare. Dr. Fortenberry provides very interesting readings and introduces concepts that are easy to digest and apply. He is very prescriptive in his expectations of of the class but if you follow the rules you will be successful. Great Class!
Professor Fortenberry is one of the most well-respected experts. It is up to you as a student to quickly adapt to his materials. Pay attention! This will not only benefit you as a student but help you learn the significant areas of your profession. I do plan on retaking him in future courses.
Professor Fortenberry is one of the most well-known experts, and I plan to retake him in more courses. I will recommend to read all of his writings including insights .This will not only benefit you as a student but help you learn the significant areas of your profession.
Professor Fortenberry is a fair and consistent grader. You put in the required time and effort, you will have an A. Three papers, three journals, three discussion boards. He is a no-nonsense grader so be sure to follow his directions very carefully.
This is a straight forward class. You are required to do three papers, three journal entries and three discussions. Give you two weeks to do one paper, journal entry and discussion which is an ample amount of time. As long as you follow his directions clearly and dont turn in things late, you should get an A.
Dr. Fortenberry is a solid choice. Gives you two weeks to do you assignments, but make sure you do not turn them in late or there will be points taken off. The biggest points come from you papers, the other assignments are more so participation points. As long as do good on the papers you are in good shape.
He is very tough and does not explain.
You have to read the directions thoroughly before attempting your work in his class. Follow everything to the last detail he wants for your assignment and youll be fine. Also look for changes in dates for assignments. Polls are 12% of your grade and are due separately from journals and applications. Hes a great teacher but, details are important.
Very clear-cut and precise directions and expectations. Reading and writing intensive but there were no quizzes. Actually requires you to present real-world information and scenarios and apply critical thinking skills and ideas to assignments. In all of my years of college courses, I have never enjoyed a class as much as this one.
Dr. Fortenberry is a pretty straightforward professor. In this class, there are 3 papers, 3 poll questions, 3 sound offs, 3 journals and 1 reflection. He outlines EXACTLY what he wants in each paper and they are graded the hardest but as long as you do what he ask you will be fine. The other assignments are just for participation and are easy pts.
Dr. Fortenberry was an amazing teacher. I took MHA 709. If you pay attention to the details and follow his directions you will do just fine. I learned so much in this course and I really enjoyed it. I am planning to take his Marketing class in the fall!
He does not provide individual feedback on assignments. I do not know what his voice sounds like, he did not record any lectures or instructions. All material must be read for comprehension. Surprisingly, the material was interesting and the assignments tap into one's creativity.
This professor made me fail my semester, he's a tough grader and gives you a zero on ur assignments for no damn reason or explanation. If you can try to avoid him please do. And he doesn't reply to emails so you won't know the reason for the bad grade.
Tough grader. Was a one way class that we needed to understand ourselves. The only things we have in hand are links to journals (mostly his) and that is it. Syllabus of schedule was not even given in the first place, the last evaluation task was open on Monday and ended in only 2 days - which task usually lasted for 7 days or at least 5 days.
AVOID!!!!!!!!! This man is arrogant beyonf belief and believes that every thing he says must be respected and trusted like he is Jesus himself and we are his disiplces. I could not express enough how much I am suggesting you avoid him!!! I had a 4.0 GPA before this course and he failed me because I disagreed with him on one assignments perspective.
Follow his directions and you'll do just fine. Gives you 2 weeks per module that includes (Poll Question, Sound Off, Journal, Practitioner Application). Clear cut instructions/ directions. This was a healthcare marketing class, the readings were interesting, I really liked how he stuck to his guns about following directions! Got an A+, so can you !
Excellent professor. Would have enjoyed having him for more than 2 of my MHA classes but there are lots of students in the program
Strategic Management (MHA 790), Gives you 2 weeks per module that includes (Poll Question, Sound Off, Journal, Practitioner Application). Straightforward with instructions/directions, seems like a lot at first but if you articulate and explain your Practitioner Applications well, you'll do fine. 20% each for a total of 60% of your total grade
Professor Fortenberry has clear expectations and a specific grading system. While the workload is heavy, following his instructions closely leads to success. I found unstuckstudy helpful for preparing essays and staying organized.
Honestly, the previous reviews made me nervous before taking his class. The outlines are very well thorough, I think it just takes time to think about what you want to write about. I think the professor grades very fairly and I never had an issue with the grade I got. Just follow the directions and submit it on time.
The practitioner applications were an awesome way to relate the information to real world applications. Grading was tough with no feedback unless you fail the assignment. I feel that I could have adjusted my work and produced a better product if I had feedback. This ended up being a tough class, but I feel the educational value was outstanding.
would avoid this professor if possible
Great professor. Gives very clear instructions with outlines to follow.
This course was manageable, with a good reading load. I love the Bi-weekly assignments, although there are a lot of assignments, the 2 weeks make it manageable only if you don't wait until the last few days. The professor graded work promptly and quickly responded to questions. Follow the guide in the syllabus and the professor's instructions.
I would have preferred a different way to receive the information in this course. It's hard to apply information well in the projects when marketing is a new subject for you. Some of the points in the class are participation based and easy. The big projects take considerably more time and he does grade them tough with loose guidance.
Follow his directions very, very carefully, and you will do well. He provides a lot of material that will help you succeed. I liked the class structure - coursework was spread over 2 weeks, which was helpful. Definitely manageable. All written assignments. You will need to be creative for the projects, so don't wait until last minute to do them.
Very writing heavy but if you follow his instructions to a T, you will make an A. I really liked this professor! It was a great start to my masters program.
