Tough class, required A LOT of studying, but Fradel made it worth while. He's extremely well-traveled and has amazing stories to tie in with his lectures. Interesting man, interesting class, just not the easiest one out there...

What's better than taking a world geography class than having a teacher who has been to EVERY country you talk about?! I thought it was easy; most of the class found it hard, though. Study your notes, the maps, the pictures, and NEVER be late to class. Great class!

Fradel is great! His lectures and stories about his travels are very interesting! The class is lecture based and you have to be a good note taker in order to do well. If you take good notes and study the maps, the tests will be easy for you. Definitely take his class!

Fradel is the best professor I've had. If you go to class and pay attention you'll make an A in the class. He is also one of the funniest people I've ever met. He is an American who's lived in Egypt for the last 20 years and he seems to have become anti-American in that time. It's hilarious!

John Fradel's classes are like listening to a great story rather than a prepared lesson. You have to study but as long as you get your countries and capitals down, you will find that the lectures all comes back to you simply by reading through the notes you took in class. Go into the class expecting to act like and be treated as an adult.

John simply asks students to come to class. Sure he's polemical; I tried my best to out-polemicize him. Extensive, yet oversimplistic, knowledge of Mideast, like most Americans. However, he's a bloody riot and very honest about where he stands on issues. But, John please supplement the Friedman book [Nafficy! Said!] - it's an unscholarly memoir. A+

His lectures are very, very good. He is extremely knowledgeable on the subject and wants us to be as excited about it as he is. Somehow he has learned and remembered the names of all of the class (a big class, more than 50 people).

This professor was very clear in his teaching methods and was just a cool guy in general. I really recommend taking this class or any other geography courses he teaches because his classes are never boring.

I took a course from Dr.John years ago in Egypt. He was very difficult but it was one of the best courses that I ever had. From the comments posted here, it seems that he has become very soft in his old age. No one ever said these nice things about him.

Dr.Fradel is a down to earth kind of guy and a doggone good professor. He has travelled everyhwere and is very knowledgeable. He knows his job and does it very well. i would reccommend him to all the potential students. Don't come late to his class!

This is my favorite professor at FSU. He gives interesting lectures, is helpful, still strict, tells you exactly what he expects. His class is challenging enough to make you work at it and study. He tells entertaining stories that make you understand and visit all the places you learn about. You learn many aspects of each place. Take him!

If you take this class, go to it. This was one of the most valuable classes I have taken during college. He really opens your eyes to the ignorance most people have of other cultures and places, and also their own. Half of the class did not even know how to correctly spell Tallahassee (it was a bonus question on the final)...

Hard class, VERY interesting, the grades you get on tests do not reflect your final grade- take the attendence policy if you want an A.

My favorite professor here at FSU so far. I really enjoyed his class. He made it very interesting, and showed us pictures to better understand. Definitely go to class. The tests are based off of class notes. Pay attention and you will do good. :)

This course should be a required course. Very interesting and filled with useful knowledge. I love this course! I learned things I would have never known without taking this course. hey was a very interesting teacher and has been to ssooo many countries so he knows what hes talkin about! i would def recommend him. ALTHOUGH it is a 1000 level class he kind of teaches it more like a 2-3000. but its cool. go everyday and be on time.

He's a genius in this subjuct. He's been all over the world and has intresting funny stories. He has office hours over the weekend and throughout the week. He's NOT SYMPATHETIC OR ENCOURAGING AT ALL! I took two classes from Fradel, world and middle east. He is the best professor that I had during my time at Florida State by far. He very intelligent and his lectures are entertaining. On the other hand, the World class was like a graduate course and the Middle East grad class was like a Harvard PhD dissertation class.

He was the best teacher I've ever had. His classes were so interesting that I never missed one. That's saying a lot since I'm not the type that ever goes to all my classes. He is soooo amazing and he should definitely be part of your college experience.

Best teacher I have had at FSU. He does a geat job making geography presentable and interesting. Tests reflect what is taught in class. He is very easy to get a hold of outside of class for help if needed and is more than willing to spend some extra time with you so that you understand everything. I would highly recommend!

The class is probably one of the hardest classes i've had. Lots of material; history, background, locations. He is super nice and knows tons on the subject but if you don't put in 4 hrs a day on the subject you wont do good. Not an easy A.

Go to every class. Do the extra credit and you get an A. It's that simple. Class was a piece of cake.

Fradel is normally a political science teacher and when he teaches geography he incorporates TOO much politics into the class. I do not recommend taking him for this class. I honestly didn't think i would have to try so hard for a 1000 level course. the information is interesting, but it is alot...i mean alot! your test cover three continents at a time, and you have to know them in detail i.e. physical features, major and nonmajor cities,and pictures. he is sarcastic and rude sometimes. it's mandatory attendance

This is the most unique courses I have ever taken. It is a MUST for anyone interested in the Middle East The whole semester is video conferences every week with someone in the Middle East. Amazing experience. I highly recommend it.

Prof Fradel is a really nice guy, he keeps lectures pretty interesting, shows lots of pictures and videos. Grade is based on 4 tests, which are based on lecture material, no surprises at all. Grades fairly and is very easy to approach. Only problem is he doesn't post any lectures online. Overall Id definitely recommend.

Great teacher. I learned a lot from him. He is entertaining and delivers his material with passion and enthusiasm. Some of the lectures had too much information but he encourages students to share notes on the discussion board. This helped a lot. I had lots of absences and did not do that attendance plan but still got an A.

This is a great class! John Fradel is the man! He's very knowledgeable and keeps the class relevant. Go to class take notes (everything), learn the pictures, and learn the places that he puts on the study guide. I took 3 classes with Fradel and enjoyed them all. He was great. Not your average FSU professor. Expect to study but the classes are well worth the effort. If you want to take him for an easy class do the Environmental Science.

He knows just about everything there is to know, and he lets you know that. Take this class if you love yourself. You will work, but you will have a great time. This class was a lot harder than I thought it would be. You HAVE to study for the tests and there is a LOT of memorization involved. Fradel is well traveled and does not hesitate to make fun of America, its leaders, and its policies. If you are easily offended, do not take this class. Also, attendance is really important to make sure you do well.

Great prof! Extremely engaging lecturer, one of the best. Picky about attendance. Class was a bit intimidating at first but you get accustomed to it . Extremely knowledgable and I learned TONS from the class. He is one of the institutions that make FSU what it is. Fair grader. Tries to be fair politically even though he is definitely conservative.

I LOVE Fradel! He's a bit eccentric, but he's so knowledgeable because he's been to almost everywhere you learn about and he's passionate about what he does. Everything on the tests you discuss in class and you can miss class 4 or 8 times depending on how you want your grading done, so he's kind of flexible. Would HIGHLY recommend!

By far the best teacher I have ever had in any year of school. He is a God. His class has everything you want. It isnt the easiet and you will either fail or ace it. If you study for the tests by knowing where citys are and go to lecture a garuenteed A. The funnist **** ever. I love this guy.

This was his first time teaching Europe. As always, he is an excellent lecturer, funny, engaging, and a bit of an ass. He is incredibly knowledgeable, and he speaks from experience in every country he talks about. Tests were hard, involved a lot of memorization, but all in all it was a privilege to be taught by him. I recommend him by all means.

I took this as a junior, and it was really fun watching all the freshman struggle their way through it. He is a crazy, crazy man. However, if you do what he says (don't be late, study what he says to) you will be fine. I'm a bio major that loves geography, and this class was my breath of fresh air every class day.

I've had this professor 3 times and because of my major I am likely to have him again. His way of teaching is strange and he tends to be rude and intrusive when it comes to students he gets familiar with but following all the requirements will likely keep you from getting embarrassed everyday in class, no guarantees though.

I thought he was great. He took a class that I thought was going to be boring and made it interesting. His way of speaking isn't for the easily offended and his blackboard set up is a bit overwhelming. He extremely knowledgeable and tells you exactly what you need to know. DO NOT BE LATE!! he will embarrass you.

Great guy and class, he knows a TON of information. Try to keep good notes in his lectures (he talks fast), and STUDY EARLY, the tests are hard if you don't give 100%. Not a class for slackers. Use the attendance plan with fewer absences allowed (tests are weighted less).

Most interesting professor and lecturer at FSU. His classes contain a lot of information, and there is no way to do well unless you study. However, his classes are never boring and you'll learn a lot.

Fradel is the man! To anyone who says he's tough: get a sense of humor, QUICK. He's a great lecturer, his tests are taken directly from the maps and lectures so MEMORIZE THEM and you will get an A. He's very helpful outside of class and genuinely cares about his students.

Made me laugh all class! Great guy and cares about the students. Can be a hard class but all and all probably one of the greatest teachers out there. He is the kinda teacher who would go to the bar with ya. Great guy

SO HILARIOUS!!!! He is so insightful because he has literally experienced everything he teaches and doesn't teach about a country he's never been to. And believe he teaches you almost every country imaginable. Will make you want to visit every country you learn about, I know I do.

He is an amazing teacher! He actually knows what he's talking about and not ****ting about the countries 'cause he's actually been there. The key to get a good grade is to study the maps, the pictures, and the notes. Study each part a day and you'll do fine. Trust me...I did :)

This is by far the best class I have ever taken. Fradel was a great lecturer. Every time I would sit there, so enthralled that before I knew it class was over. I walked away with a much better understanding of the world around me (the world is flat!). He is extremely helpful and goes out of his way to help you do well. Dont be late and go to class.

He is by far the best professor I've come across. His lectures are super interesting, he is available to help at all times, and he does everything he can possibly do for you to earn a good grade. He hate tardiness so make sure to be on time and don't miss class either.

Fradel is a great teacher. Had him for world geography, us and canada geography and now for middle eastern geography. once you get a hang of his teaching style the class is cake, but it may seem hard at first. this man knows what hes talking about. hes been EVERYWHERE he talks about. Def the best geography professor at the university

best teacher ive had at FSU. he's amazing in the same way that teacher from Star Ship Troopers is amazing (- the missing arm). This guy's a BADASS.

Attendance is not mandatory but ESSENTIAL to passing his class as his exams are based largely on lecture material. HE HATES cell phones & tardiness. Very funny, interesting, and knowledgable. He gives a study guide for all exams. Loved this class.

This is a tough class for average students. Take the attendance plan OR just never skip. Exams are mostly lecture and all maps. I've only missed 4 days and have gotten Ds on every exam. GOOD LUCK...

One of the best professors I have come across; definitely the most interesting. Lecture is mandatory, but there's really no reason you WOULDN'T want to come: his class was the highlight of my Monday. Tests are difficult and cover a lot of material, but if you put in the effort he'll take notice. Available any day almost all day. Strongly recommend.

If you want to be treated like an adult because you are in COLLEGE, dont take this class. Fradel is very open with his comments offensive or not and has zero respect for you as an individual. The test could be way easier but they way he distributes them is completely unecessary and designed to confuse you. Trust me its not worth the headache!

Fradel is hilarious! Yes, he can be a little insensitive, but that's just his personality/humor. Go to class on time and pay attention, he doesn't deal with nonsense from people (sleeping, texting, etc). He teaches from experience, which is awesome. His test are somewhat difficult, but if you study you'll do fine. I would totally recommend him.

I always enjoyed going to his class. He makes things very interesting and uses the Iclicker to engage everyone in class discussions about current events. I studied very hard and still got a 62% average on the exams, but with his attendance extra credit and final exam policies I still got a B-! But don't take this class if you're easily offended!

This is a VERY intense class. I strongly recommend the "K" plan. That gives extra credit at the end, which will most likely be needed. I had a low D average on exams but because of the attendance plan i got an overall B:) Also make sure to post on the discussion board, Fradel will give extra to those who do. GOOD LUCK!

Definitely recommend his class. He is hilarious, although admittedly somewhat harsh. Do not be late to his class. If you are a smart student who gives a hoot then you'll do fine. Study is a must but I liked it, a lot of memorizing. Entertaining class. Be sure to post on the discussion board and he likes people who are in class every day, hint hint

First day he seems scary, but is my favorite professor so far. Will make you laugh everyday in class and gives you everything you need to know for the test. 1/4 of your grade is attendance,and you are tested on pictures and movies.

One of my favorite classes, i looked forward to going to class he is hilarious! You learn soo much in this class, stuff that you will actually use in the future and things that are important to know. One of the best and most useful classes you can take at FSU. Fradel is hilarious and extremely knowledgeable. Not so much intimidating as he is straight to the point. I love it. I think he's freaking brilliant. Doesn't care if he offends people. Must have thick skin to take this class. Use attendance plan, go to every class, use discussion board. Tests are tough if you don't do any of those three. He even gives you the option for the Final Exam if you get a higher grade on the exam than your test average he will drop one of your lowest test scores. Great Teacher, funny, interesting. Fradel gives you everthing you need for your tests as long as you know your map and know all the little side information about the cities he gives in class you will get an A. His class is super easy

I learned a bunch in this class but you have to go to class and actually study to do well. Like half the class couldn't find Tampa on a map. If you're one of those, do yourself a favor and don't take this class

This teacher is awesome. He's very knowledgeable & has a great sense of humor (as long as you're not easily offended). Do NOT be late to class/use a phone though, he'll kick you out (stickler for rules). He tells you everything you need to know for tests, so if you take good notes you'll do just fine. Pretty easy class overall, and Fradel is great!

Fradel is the best professor at FSU dont let anyone tell you different. He gives you everything you need for the test you just have to show up and thats 30% of your grade.

Fradel is really a hidden gem as far as professors go. He will teach you a lot about places and people of the world. He has a no-BS attitude and won't give you an inch of leniency if you ask for it. So be prepared to study everything and to show up to every lecture, and this will be one of the most fulfilling classes you can take.

Took this for the x credit. Fradel is amazing. He's been everywhere and he's also kinda crazy, which I like. I thought this would be a boring class but it was just the opposite. Attendance is crucial to your grade b/c there are no notes or a book and it's also part of your grade. Not an easy A but worth it if you actually care about learning.

Don't take if you're looking for an easy A but if you have the time to put in, take it. Very useful course. Post on the discussion board for EC and use all the games/etc posted.. will definitely help your grade. Tests are memorization of cities, features, pictures, notes, etc. Don't use your phone and DON"T be late!

Absolutely amazing teacher who knows and loves his subject. Must go to class for clicker points and notes. Without notes you will fail. Not as easy as I expected but i learned so much and the word paid off. I really don't like him as a person (rude, egotistical, somewhat mean), but he honestly is a really good teacher and extremely knowledgeable. Absolutely hilarious and he did make class very interesting. Not a guy you'll want to hug, but you will learn.

This is the best class that I ever had. Every class is like a live session of the Colbert Report. The guy is hilarious. Tests are hard but it helps a lot if you go to see him.

I absolutely love this teacher! I took him this past fall and I was extremely nervous, to say the least. I got a 62 on my first test and I went and talked to him about it. He was really helpful and we talked about how I could improve my grade. There are 4 test including the final and these were my grades: 62, 92, 92, and 96! Study and attend class!

Personally, I didn't like him at all. He was rude and egotistical. Not the most helpful teacher and you may as well not even buy the textbook. Expects you to remember everything he says. I had to drop this class.

Fradel is crazy and strict. Will throw countless people out of the room for using a phone etc. But if you listen to the lectures and take notes he is actually very interesting. By going and listening to every lecture you will easily succeed.

I'm graduating this semester, I took Fradel spring of 2012. To this day, he has been the best professor I have ever had. All of the negative ratings are most likely from people who never showed up for class and waited until the hour before exams to study. He's difficult, but a great professor.

This guy is amazing. He's really crass and raucous sometimes but just go with it he's great.It's only a level 1000 course, but he goes out of his way to make it a 4000 when it comes to tests

Fradel is the most knowledgeable and entertaining professor at this university. He is hilarious without trying to be. His enthusiasm and his travel stories make paying attention very easy. Easily my favorite professor at FSU. Ive taken him on 3 occasions (1 1000 level class, 1 2000 level class, and 1 4000 thousand level class). In each course he makes you study in order to pass but the class is so worth it. He has been all over the world and knows a lot about everything. Hilarious man but he'll put you in your place. This is a great professor and I loved the class. The guy has been everywhere even obscure little countries and tiny mountain places and remote islands. He has amazing stories to tell. What I cant understand is why somebody like this is in Tally? Has anyone ever gotten a straight answer from him about why he travels to all of these places?

Maybe once in a college career there will be a teacher who really teaches and has a major impact on the students. John Fradel is one of these. He is passionate, informative and entertaining. Even in a huge class he made personal connections with his students. He treated us more like friends than students and it made the class so much better

Hands down the most rewarding class that I've taken at FSU. Extremely fun to listen to, always had interesting personal stories for each country. This is one of the few classes that I looked forward to going to and that I learned something that I'll never forget.

Still the best class I had in my time at Florida State. He is a crazy man with all of his stories. The clickers questions are the highlight of the class. I will never forget the lesson on how to use an Indian toilet. Highly recommend.

One of the BEST professors at FSU. You need to be engaged in the lessons and lesson to him and outline the notes before arrival. It is a 1000 level course that will be one of the HARDEST classes you take if you are not use to lecture style teaching. He has office hours in case you don't want to ask questions in front of everyone. TOTALLY RECOMMEND!

Great professor with great lectures. You have to have a clicker but this is actually pretty good because he makes a game out of it. No out of class work but the tests are difficult. Fradel is the MAN. You can tell that he has been teaching for a while and knows exactly what he is doing. I loved all of his stories about the places that he has been. It was great having a teacher who has actually been every place that he talks about. You don't want to miss class. It is much harder than you would expect for a 1000 level.

I had Fradel for the six week World Regional Geography summer course and I thoroughly enjoyed the class. Note that attendance is critical and will impact your grade big time. Also show up ON TIME or he won't let you in. The guy is totally hilarious. Overall it's a very easy and enjoyable class. I recommend it.

I will be getting my PhD next Saturday and this class (took it as a freshman) is still the hardest one that I have ever had and the most beneficial. He was also very helpful outside of class and always good for a interesting conversation.

He used to tell us in class that if we were IA majors and were looking for a job that we should practice saying welcome to Walmart. Fradel, I was an IA major and I am in my fifth year as a US foreign service officer. :-) This was a good class though, learned a lot that has helped me. I strongly recommend. I literally just graduated from FSU and am going to miss it a lot. If I had to pick one class from my time at Florida State that benefited me the most, it would be this one.
