Helpful. Makes class fun.
very smart, sassy, interesting teacher.
Very hard, do not I repeat, do not take this class unless you want to work hard and do alot of work, not to mention be frustrated. Trust me these other people are giving wrong info. this guy is very tough and unorganized.
He is good...i like him ...but all essays...so not easy...very very very hard to get an A just so you know.....if you have to have an A dont take him...but if you want to learn this is a great teacher
his absolutely hilarious...u got about 4-5 essays per semester...easy...reviews all in advance ...take notes (not at all)!
This man is HILARIOUS. I would almost drop this class and still show up to listen to him speak. This does NOT translate to an easy A however. Grading is all right, do all the work and try and you get a B, you get an A if he likes you.
his class is very interesting! never bored!!
great teacher! great material in class to study!never bored!!
Keeps you laughing from start to finish of the semester. He has a great attitude, sense of humor and so much respect for students. Don't take his class if you're not ready to write! Take it if you want a brilliant, funny, down-to-earth professor.
great teacher, not an easy "A" , but if you want to learn something and have a good time take him...he is kinda cooky, but in a good way, very funny and teaches very good material. All essays, so not easy
he uses a perfect balance of intelligence and humor so that class is nothing but learning and laughing.
he sucks. and really really hard.... always keep discussing the reading materials without teaching any skill for writing. dun take him!
He is a very intelligent teacher who knows what he is talking about. NOT A BORING CLASS. Be prepared to interact with him everyday. Funny guy, but sticks to his teaching plan. All essay's, and grades them fairly, and tries to teach from your mistakes.
I also took Mr. Fredrick's Eng. 1 class and found it very interesting all the time, very funny & interesting material. This class will make you think about your life and about your future! Take Fredrick's Class!!!!!
Very cool dude. Awesome taste in movies.....generally.
Be ready to participate and not be shy; know your material, because he will pick on you if you don't. His grading is not so bad but is not so easy either.Take him if you enjoy class discussions...And he is not cute...
Dr Fredrick is emotionally unstable and shouldn't be teaching. Some days he would come into class and offer his students coffee and others he acted like it was a privlidge that we were in his company. The readings are boring he isn't helpful
Not only is he ineresting, he is very exciting also, he teaches english with a humerous approach and i never get tired of it. he really gives you valuable insights to litterature (thats not boring!)and loves to her YOUR oppinion of things! hes great!
He has a very interesting teaching method. He is not a hard grader, but not easy as well. Be prepared to write and participate in class. He will pick on students who particpate a lot, so read the material. Take this class if you are intereted in the Literature, and not the grade. Overall, not bad
he is cool
Gresat ****ing teacher. He loves to engage students in conversation on the literature. Make sure you are not afraid to ask questions and talk in class, because he always cals on students.

he is way brilliant: that's all you need to know. how many proffessors can you say that of?
Dr. Fredrick is HOT!! he is so cool, funny and very entertaining. Socratic method of teaching, very helpful in getting you to understand the work. Not your typical English Professor. Highly recommended.
This guy is perfect for all of you who want to read and report on boring poetry, irrelevant european literature and listen to the hysterical rantings of a 50 year, bleached blond old narcissist. Scholasticlly, I learned very little. PS don't buy his CD--he can't sing and mine skipped.
Amazing professor! Every class is like taking a trip to the theatre... stimulating and extremely entertaining. The classes are REAL and get you to think. You'll definitely learn to write better papers!
anyone who disses him--assume they got a bad grade. he's really funny and super intelligent. cares about students a lot (maybe too much!) p.s. his band sounds like The Cure and is AWESOME. a lot of people's favorite prof. mine too.

LOVE HIM SO MUCH...
Amazing
He's very charming, very cute, and very fun--makes you laugh every single class. i definitely learned to write for UCLA classes. i will say he can be hard on the people who don't like to work very hard. i won't forget Dr. Fredericks.

Fun teacher, only 4 papers all year. Wants his students to do well. Doesnt care if u dont show up. DO a some work get an A, do a little work ad get a B
This guy is sooo lazy!
This was the most horrible class ever. He is sloppy and does not keep up with the class. If you are interested in learning how to write and get good grades for the rest of college, then this is not the class for you. A total waste of time. Don't bother asking questions, he can't or atleast wount anwer them.Ps. I have a good grade in the class.
I have to agree with what these people are saing. He can take up to 3 1/2 weeks to return a single paper, he is never prepared, forget about learning college level writing, this would not meet elementary school writing. If you want to take a class that attendance does not count, than take him. If you want to learne how to write, then don't!
Fine class to take if English isn't your main interest, or if you're just getting it out of the way. Don't expect to be able to talk to him outside class, ever. I didn't really try that hard and got a B. Attendance doesn't seem to matter much. He's a funny guy and the discussions are funny.. but it wouldn't be an English lover's favorite class.
he's great. i dont know what these people are saying. he helps if you go up to him and ask. he taught me how to use my brain and write.
I enjoyed this class the discussions and ideas were great and made me think. I didn't get much help with my writing or papers and he can be arougant at times, but besides that an easy laid back class fun to be in.
BIASED.
he is a very good professor--very helpful and funny. discussions are always lively and he totally cares. i will take him for English 2 cause he's very insightfull and cool. he made us laugh alot.

I agree. He is very full of himself. To top everything off, you will not learn anything. He is biased in everything he says. He will pick a couple of people he likes and give bad grades out to everyone else. I got a good grade after a lot of butt kissing...a lot..
Worst prof.I have ever had at SMC. There are some prof. that don't give out easy As, but you learn a lot which helps you in other classes, this class is only an A if you kiss his but, and you will not learn anything. I don't know what this class has to do with Eng.It is more like Fredricks personal life 101.
the very BEST professor i have ever had (and i dropped out of Berkeley). some of these people are insane! (someone said he had some deaths to deal with last semester, so maybe that is why?) my writing totally improved. he's super witty and hilarious, and very cute too. take him!
i loved his class--never a dull moment, and your writing will improve if you pay attention to the comments on the papers. super funny guy too. he's almost like a sports coach in the way he goes about it. not easy but very well worth it--everyone gets involved with the disscussions.
You will learn a lot, but this guy is hard. He's a total stoner and is the best english teacher I've ever had. He reminds me of Phillip Seymour Hoffman's character in Along Came Polly.
Great guy, skilled writer, I recommend reading his The King of Good Intentions. He does call on people at random with questions difficult to answer; but put in the effort and an "A" is quite possible.
if you have english as your second language, better not take him. his lecture is funny, but it's hard for non-natives to understand it and to write essays that can satisfy his requirement. my frd who has to retake eng1 after taking him get an A from another prof.
complete brilliant genius. hilarious. very very helpful--he TEACHES you how to write papers for when you go on to 4 year schools. every class exciting and fun and especially A CHALLENGE. take him!
Fredrick has a lot of passion and experience to put into his classes. READ INTO THE POETRY HE ASSIGNS, before you get to class, because he will drill you on it. Also, the papers that he has you write help you prepare for a four year.
VERY HARD. VERY WORTH IT. HE'S IS MY FAVORITE PROF EVER. SUPER FUNNY AND CUTE TOO. (DEFINITELY HOT). NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART--OR ENGLISH. HE IS A VERY TOUGH GRADER AND VERY DEMANDING BUT I GOT INTO UC IRVINE BECAUSE OF HIS HELP ON MY PAPERS. YOU WILL LAUGH A LOT BUT IF YOU ARE A SLACKER, FORGET IT--HE'S NOT THE GUY FOR YOU.

he's a cool teacher, funny, interesting, always willing to help. be ready to read a lot of stories, and write a number of essays though. don't take the class if you can't handle his sense of humor though..definitely not rated G. or even PG.
he is really funny, but many times the jokes are on his students and he can be really insulting
Good Teacher but he is a bit hard on the papers. His socratic Method of Teahcing is very interesting and every class meeting was fun to go to. I dont recommend this teacher if youre looking for an easy A. He is an easy B for sure. If not looking for the grade, you will have fun in this class.
truly GREAT teacher. super funny, yes, but you learn a LOT (comments on the papers are the most attention i have ever got from a prof). he harshes on people for their own good. love him. he is def. more like a university teacher.
sometimes, he speaks too fast to understand. his joke is not so fun. not so good overall.
great teacher! i never dreaded going to class, he was always friendly. he keeps students engaged on the works. sometimes assigns random hw that he'll forget bout next class. essays arent that difficult. not an easy A, but manageable. very funny guy. also very smart. i DEFINITELY recommend him!!!
showoff, cynical, mean
the best professor I ever had with a sense of humor, he made me a better writer. It is not impossible to get an A in his class but you need to work hard.
If u though that engish classes were boring... take this one!.. John is the best professor, u will learn, write, read, and have fun, all in one class...
He was such a great teacher. you get to watch three films which will become your all time favorites..and write essays on them. there's some reading from text but not a lot. he's really funny and we'll wake you up in the morning. he's the best teacher i've had so far. i wish i had him every semester. if you get an A you'll go on to engl 1. =)
He was very sweet and helpful but not an easy A
i think he is very intellectual. very funny and excited. he is very honest so if you are going to comment make sure you know what you want to say. very involved class everyone works verbally... grades well i have improved on every essay i have ever truned in... great guy... he loves music and tennis.
Dr Fredrick is the funniest guy in the world. The classes just fly by and they are so much fun. The reading is very interesting and he is a fair grader. Take him you will love the class!!!!
Professor Fredrick was one of the best english professor's I've tooken so far. He is a funny, smart, creative man. It's not an easy nor hard class, but trust me every class meeting is fun GREAT PROFESSOR!! take his class..
It's the first time he's taught the class: therefore he forgets most of his comparative lit.
if you don't come to class prepared you will lose out on interacting with one of the most insightful and funny teachers out there. grades hard on papers but its for your own good, you will learn how to write a proper college paper. he will help you, just ask for it.and sorry dr. F, i still dont like rushmore..but i loved the class.
Excellent Professor. Taking English 3 with him was the best idea ever. We only had 4 essays, and they were all fun for the most part. Uses the Socratic Method, so most of the time you teach him it's great. He's also f'ing hilarious. Take him.
he is the best teacher in the world. i love him!!!!!
Professor Fredrick is extremely fun, inspiring, and an utter riot in class! Engages heavily in class discussions which means he actually cares what you think about the material! If you're looking for conventionality, don't take his class. If you're looking for someone who is thought provoking by all means, take him!
I love this professor. He is the most amazing man, always very active and reading to teach. a few papers but read the book and you'll be fine. jus remember don't go to class without reading what he requires. Thanks for a great semester professor fredrick!!
Dr Frederick is an awesome teacher. Going into his class on day 1, he can be a lot to handle, he is very excentric and tells a lot of stories, but comes off as a stickler. Ultimately, he lets his lighter side show, only assigning around 4 essays. Attendance isnt really mandatory, and he chooses pretty exciting works to read. A+ professor.
Funny but rather unorderly. Great picks for reading. Don't be late to class, read assignments prior to class. He plays favorites but I've watched him grade papers and he is pretty lenient.
He is soooo funny, it's like Waching Penn from Penn&Teller, he talks a lot, but makes you think too, I'll never forget him, he is one of those teachers that make you want to go to class...great expeience :-)
Dr. fredrick picks the greatest material and loves class discussions. He loves to listen to himself talk, but he is very smart and makes alot of great points. My writing is improving from his class. He is, most certainly, recommended!!!!
Dr. Frederick is awesome. He really showed me how to appreciate English and how to write some great papers. He is a laid back guy who has fun conversations daily and really helps you when you need it. Fairly easy B if your prepared, I got an A.
Just do the assignments and be an active class participant and you'll be fine. Very interesting and funny class. You really develop and improve your critical thinking in this class. At the beginning of his class I was afraid because English is my third language and his class is Hard, but at the end I got an A. Excellent teacher I learned a lot!
I had to drop this class due to Frederick making fun of me for not knowing what a word meant. when i asked him the meaning he mocked me in front of the entire class. school is for learning not for publicly humiliating students.
Very good Prof. Funny, intelligent and capable of improving your writing skills. Lots of discussion in class so be prepared. If you never raise your hand he'll eventually pick you out. Not that much writing. 3 or 4 papers is it. He only really graded 2 or 3 papers and the final was pretty much extra credit. He might not do this all the time though.
VERY FUNNY, to point where i want to take him for eng2. he has a midterm, and like 3-4 essays which he grades very hard on. as long as you improve your writing skills throughout the course you will be fine. also a period of weeks where our writing is based on movies, not books. overall, very fun and exciting class to look foward to.
I absolutely hate english, but I had so much fun with Dr. Fredrick. I enjoyed every day of his class. Don't take him if you don't like to speak up or participate in class because he is way into the socratic method; you can't hide. He's harsh, but he'll make you a better writer. He says the things that need to be said and you'll learn a lot from him
If you want the Christopher Guest character from Waiting for Guffman as your teacher. Fredrick is your man...
Wow! I don't know where to start. Even though I got a A, he was very hard to deal with. He is loud, rude and desperate for attention. He expects you to participate in class but will interupt you before you a can finish a sentence. Plus, he always talks about his made up girlfriends which is really weird.
I am taking professor Fredrick's class right now. He is an ok teacher and sometimes funny but he is sooo annoying. He whines through the whole class. Under appearnce there should be a third option: downright nasty
Fredrick is a very entertaining character, I can see how some might consider him 'too much' at times, but I personally have never been so inspired. He is what all teachers should be: brilliant, witty, challenging and most of all in love with his job. This class is extremely interesting and I can honestly say I'm a better writer because of it.
wonderful class. i took him for eng 1, was terrified of him in the beginning. class is always packed first week, and there are ~6 by the end. do what he says, practice, "imitate", and you will be just fine. i love his class and he loves to help those who want it. go to office hours!! he will give you all the info you need for your papers.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this class. you will laugh to tears. he is brilliant. write down everything he says, put everything into your papers, and you have an A. he goes over all poems and texts in class. AMAZING CLASS. be prepared to speak in front of class; be prepared to learn and have the most fun in a class you'll ever have.
Dr. Fredrick may be intimidating at first (and to some, I am certain he is downright frightening) but above all else, he is an inspiring and helpful professor. Anyone considering taking his class should be fully prepared to put forth all their effort and ability into writing well thought-out, cohesive, and college-level essays.
He is my number one at SMC. He is inspiring, challenging, funny, talented and extremely helpful, and every time I look at him my heart breaks))))))))
BRILLIANT. he will no doubt scare you in the beginning, but stick with it! he goes over everything in class, just take lots of notes and be prepared to speak in front of the class. show your face at office hours every now and then. this will be your favorite class. i am who i am now because of this class. i thank dr. fredrick so much.
He is a scary, pessimist, narcissist, extremely weird, funny and intriguing. Way too rigorous grading the essays and his grading is unhelpful for average learners. His office hours sucked. Only chance of an A/B is if he favors you if your brilliant. My worst class experience. He is not for most people, only take if you are an amazing writer.
By far the most toughest and harshest grader I have ever met (and I'm a science major). Although he's the funniest human being on earth, his grading on an essay is worst than that of a scholars class (and this isn't scholars) but he will eat your writing alive, and then you. Enjoy! He honestly isn't worth anyone's money. I'm sorry I wasted mine.
fredrick is a nice guy. it's a fun class. stay on his good side and you'll get a B.
If you are smart enough to appreciate Dr. Fredrick, he will change your life or at least make you think. The readings were interesting and his class discussions were intelligent and hilarious. The more the student cares and puts in effort, the more he cares and returns the effort helping you. I would take ANY class from him. LOVE HIM!!!!!!!
Although SMC is not a university, Dr. Fredrick grades all of his students at a university-level, as he should. His classes will enable you to compete with university students. If you are sincerely interested in English, enroll in one of his classes.
TOUGH GRADER. EXPECTS YOU TO WORK HARD, PARTICIPATE, SPEAK CLEARLY IN CLASS, AND PAY ATTENTION.
I took Dr.Fredricks class my first year in college, I still use work from his class to guide me through papers 3 years later. I LOVE HIM. Tough grader, but if you attend his extremely entertaining classes and pay attention, you will learn a lot. Teaches at a junior college, but like a university teacher. He gives you the training you need.
If you are an intelligent individual and want to learn rather than just to get that easy A,take him.I took him my first year during the summer.Very entertaining class! He is a tough grader but it will benefit you in the future.Participate and come to him for help on your essays. The more effort you put into the class, the better grade you'll get.
By far the worst class experience I've had at SMC. Avoid even if you are desperate for a class.
I wasn't quite sure what to expect after reading Ratemyprofessor. However, English is my major so I jumped on board thinking "how difficult could this Professor be?" One word. Tragic.
This Professor has zero classroom etiquette. Notably, the worst English class I've taken at SMC.
I cannot believe I actually paid to be abused! Note, I am intelligent, serious and open-minded; however, this class was a joke.
The most intellectually sophisticated language professor I've ever had. Not only does he teach you how to become a better writer but he also teach you how to think harder. You will learn how to look closer when analyzing stories and films. Dr. Fredrick will challenge you on the intellectual and emotional level, it is an unforgettable class that wil
Okay first off, I love english it's my major. This guy has great reviews, but you go to his class and he's a complete prick! Racist ****! My friend was white and he still didn't like her. He's topics were interesting, he has this thing about Orwell.
Professor Fredrick's seems like a creative/talented man. However; his issues, which becomes quickly apparent if you take his class, out weight any gems or talent he might possess. He does not appear to be interested in teaching. He should find a job he loves. You deseve to be happy Prof. Fredrick's.
Please note, the previous posts that refer to the class being intellectually geared maybe confused. The truth is "if the Prof. likes you, golden; however, if not, your screwed." Also, no way of predicting his choice selection.
First, your not allowed to enter the classroom late. Although the Prof. Fredrick's does reserve the right to run his class over. Which in effect, makes you late for your next class. Next, his declared method of teaching, which Prof. Fredrick's refers to as the socratic method, is more like the intimidatation method. I should of dropped his class
Do NOT take this class if you are just looking to skate on through easily. I consider myself to be generally talented in English, but I was SERIOUSLY challenged in this class. Despite the difficulty, he is a wonderful teacher. He leads very comedic and interesting discussions. He is also very zany and enjoyable to listen to.
To the last poster, Frederick is not helpful at ALL! If you ask questions he deems "stupid," he'll humiliate you in front of the class. He thinks abuse motivates students to work harder. Though ironically the man has such thin skin and cant take any criticism himself. He's not a good instructor and looks down on community college students.
What a nightmare!
GREAT CLASS. The poems and novels are very interesting and inspiring. But extremely difficult. Be ready to put in a lot of time and effort. He will definitely help improve your writing, even though chances you'll get an A are low, except if you write like Nabokov (good luck with that!). STILL A GREAT CLASS and an AWESOME TEACHER.
Absolutely the best teacher I have had at SMC. He makes you think. Everyone who wrote on here that he is a bad teacher is lazy. I know this because I was lazy at the beginning of his class and hated him just like the rest of these people who commented. He is truly a very intelligent and kind hearted person. GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!!!!
Seriously best prof at SMC his class is definitely not easy but you'll leave having actually learned something. He is very helpful if you go to him during office hours he'll tell you what you can do to improve. As a person he's really nice and he cares about his students. Not for people who just want the easy A but you won't regret taking him.
I was so intimidated by him in the beginning, but it turned out to be great! I don't think I've ever laughed so much in a class before. He's really just a fun professor that's going to have you work hard to earn your grade. It's a class you won't regret taking, and he's VERY helpful! but you have to be willing to work with him.
I have taken classes at four year universities as a student (not extensions) This professor is on the same level if not better then most university teachers. The class is taught at university level so i may be difficult for some people. If you want to learn how to improve your writing take this class
This guy is hilarious! Definitely intimidating and scary at first, but he means well. Hated that he enjoyed putting people on the spot all the time, but it kept everyone engaged in his already interesting (and funny) lectures. Worked my ass off and got a B, but no regrets. I learned a lot, not only about english but also about life. Love him!!
I am currently an English Major, at UCLA. I transfered from SMC. Although I have fond memories of SMC--I can't say the same thing about Fredrick's. As he made my life a living hell, while taking his Eng. class.
No grading structure. More of a philosophy class than an English class. No rubric, nothing. He just spouts bulls*** all class long and teaches you nothing about English. Grammar Nazi.I got a C on a paper just for grammar alone. Spits when he talks. People think he's smart and funny at first but it wears off fast. Especially after the first paper.
Dr. Fredrick is an amazing teacher! His class is not easy and you will have to challenge yourself, however, you will become a better writer for it. He even throws out the lowest grade! Best suggestion I can give is to go to office hours and participate in class discussions. Take him!!!
I received a good grade in his class with minimal effort, however he's a very unprofessional and mean professor. He spends discussion time talking to himself and lamenting about his personal issues and his constructive criticisms are more personal insults and emotional attacks. Oh, and the socratic method doesn't employ raising your hand.
For the student who referenced Fredricks as being on par w/major universites professors--which university are you refering too? I am currently a student at a UC school; note, I've never witnessed the shenanigans I experienced in his class with any of my Professors, at this university. But than again, maybe you went to Merced.
I recommend taking this class only if you are already an extremely strong writer. If you are this class is perfect for you, you'll write three papers and read some interesting texts. Don't expect to learn anything new to improve your writing skills. If you are NOT AN EXCELLENT WRITER prior to enrolling in this class you WILL NOT PASS!!!
Quite possibly my favorite professor- he really forces students to critically think for themselves instead of telling you what to think and feel. He was great in eng1 and eng2. He WILL try make you think though- so dont take his class If you don't want to bother
This is a hard class if you're not already a good writer. He is hard on grading, especially in the beginning. He's hard overall in the beginning, but when class semester ends he does not care about deadline or attendance. No homeworks, only four essays, he trows out lowest grade. He is a funny guy!
In 2010, this guy flattered me by accusing me of plagiarizing because my essay was so good. I was flabbergasted when I saw all the negative reviews he had because he does seem like a harsh teacher, but then I get why he gets frustrated. That's because you see 18 year olds writing like 7th graders and it's not just some but a lot of students...
Far and away the best prof at SMC--the funniest, most brilliant and eloquent and challenging. Also, the toughest. He's a genius and he knows it, is all. Interesting too, as you might expect (he's an artist). I am in English 2 now; who else would I take. Amazing class.
AMAZING! Had him for Eng 2 this past semester and he really made me whole semester fabulous. He is INCREDIBLY witty and funny- to a point of the whole of our class was just laughing in tears as well as him. He really pushed me in the ways i needed to be pushed and became a SIGNIFICANTLY better writer because of him. Take him if your serious!
Worst professor i've had on campus, myself and the rest of my class felt as though he randomly picks grades to put on papers. He's a harsh grader and doesn't give good commentary or assistance, he enjoys laughing and joking but never really gets down to business or doesn't return papers in time to learn from past mistakes.
He is amazing! Absolutely hilarious. You will be laughing the entire class. One of the best professors at SMC. The class is extremely fun. He is a tough grader, but he does help and he wants students to improve. 4 essays, he will drop the lowest grade. Attend classes, take part in the discussions, do your best on the essays and you will be fine.
Very Zen environment. He is the most emotionally expressive teacher I've ever taken and sometimes it can get a little too much but he is amazing at what he do. I learn so much good writing tricks from his class which will really helps with my essay writing in the future. He is there for you during his office hours so def. take advantage of that
He made me so mad at the beginning of the semester. I thought he was mean and nit picky. But as the semester went on, it became clear that he is one of those rare profs who truly wants to see his students grow intellectually. He's very perceptive and can sense when you're not trying. For me, this class ended up being an invaluable experience. :
Terrible teacher. Many dropped out but no matter how much you go to office hours and talk to him he is NO HELP. He jokes way too much but when it's about your essay he won't give you feedback. I wish I dropped out but I stuck with it. Terrible and won't take him even if you try hard it isn't enough for him.
Believe me, he is tough. But I took him for both Eng 1 and 2 because he is truly interested in making you a better writer. In most classes the teacher corrects your mistakes, then hands you back the paper, then you turn it back in and the prof grades you on what HE changed. Not Frederick. Best experience ever. I learned so much. Hilarious too.
This is a professor to be appreciated. He is unorthodox, unpredictable, and expects a lot from his students; if you think those are bad things, know that he teaches the material in the most meaningful way possible. I'm at UC Berkeley right now, and my literature professor here could take a page out of John's book. Go to class; participate; listen.
His knowledge of not just literature but music and art history and psychology as well can amaze you at times. Don't be intimidated, as so many are; he's very kindhearted and encouraging. He hates it if you have not read the assignment: he also hates late people. Read, think, go to office hours. Not an easy A by any stretch. Super funny too.
Amazing person and professor. I audio recorded some of his classes and listen to them sometimes. He's hilarious and will 'test' out jokes on the class, but have an open mind, because some of his philosophies and theories about life are unorthodox and at times a bit taboo. But that's a good thing. He will get you to think beyond norms. Great man.
I will sign up for Frederico's English 2 class even though I got (most likely) a B I had to work like crazy to get. He is really funny and knowledgeable and he teaches FILM which is so cool. Helped my writing a lot but very demanding and tough grader--especially on the grammar part of your papers. Best prof on campus.
He is not a good teacher. He is funny and thats about it. Otherwise he grades according to if he likes the paper you wrote or agrees with it. He needs everything done his way otherwise there goes your grade. He is also very rude and says things to students you shouldn't say, but when you do it to him he gets mad. Don't make the same mistake i did!
When I joined Dr. Fredrick's class I had been out of school for around 8 years. My first grade on an essay was a D. Dr. Fredrick helped me, and fine-tuned my writing skills back up and beyond what they used to be. I received an A in that class, thank you Dr. Fredrick. Short & Sweet: he's funny, artistic, helpful, and just an overall great teacher.
Easily the most INTERESTING prof I have had yet--and the most fun. Very psychological-oriented. Philosophical too. At first you will get a low grade unless you are already great at writing. Then he helps you. Stick with it. He's amazing.
Although literature is neither my intended major, nor my topic of choice, I found myself enjoying these immensely, above all, due to their complexity and depth. These analyses allowed me to develop a muscle in my mind I had not previously known existed which has now grated me definite advantage in any scholarly or professional ambition. Excellent!
Kind of a weird dude but he makes class fun and interesting. You will definitely become a better writer and a smarter person overall.
