Grades every assignment, each question. Tests difficult. Great style, enjoyable.
VERY DIFFICULT TESTS!!!! But he is a very interesting, clever prof.
KNOWS HIS MATERIAL BUT CAN'T TEACH IT EFFECTIVELY! NICE GUY THOUGH
doesn't use book
Knows his material and keeps his class interesting. Do take him!
Never need to open book! Fact sheets are given with everything you'll ever need!
Very helpful when you don't get a concept and will work with you until you do.
John's enthusiastic, knows his stuff, concerned with learning, best prof I've had
fantastic! A great help with all questions. Lots of work.
Funny and helpful. Projects are easy, bUt class attendance is a must!
Great guy, really wants you to learn and makes it fun and interesting.
he is awesome his exams are challenging but he is very nice and helpful
A great prof. I would definitely recommend him
F in Stats with another Prof. Got a B- from him. He made it easy to understand
Great Prof, and willing to help in anyway he can. Best math prof I ever had
knows his stuff never used the book attend his class made sta easy to understand
Good teacher, exams are tough
Related everything to 215, even with the much harder SAS program
Hysterical, GREAT PROF, always willing to help, and really enjoys his work.
lives and breaths stats! cool guy...was affraid of stats now i like it! take him
great, uses interactive teaching
Even though I got a C, it was because I am terrible with math.
He won't stop teaching till you understand
best prof at gvsu...makes a boring class fun
Goes at a fast pace, thinks he's funny, tests are hard. Understanding guy though
Greatest Prof!! Copy pages from book that are needed for class, don't buy book.
Hard tests. Very helpful when you go to his office hours. Good guy
Most students should do fine, tests aren't too bad, First name basis kind of guy
I was really nervous taking this class, but passed with flying colors, with John
An enjoyable instructor to have.

Prof G is tite...This guy makes stats actually interesting instead of dreaded
AWESOME prof! Take him and you'll be happy!
Great guy, good teacher. Very helpful.
Awesome Stats prof. Dredded the class going in, but enjoyed it in the end :)

incredibly smart but helpful-learned more from him than my last prof
funny
Knows students by their first name, he's funny too. Great prof overall
great all around guy, learned a ton in this class
didnt want to miss this class - very enjoyable and clear - great all around guy
Two years after taking his class he still knew my name! Cool guy!
I took the class because I had to and dreaded it. Now my minor is stats.
Sort of boring, but a great guy. Will make you learn. Tough tests. Quirky and funny. VERY smart man.
Gabrosek is the best professor in the Stats Department. Makes hard material easy to understand. Very helpful as well. A must get for all MTH & STA majors.
Sports Stats is great! John is great! Take them both!
Stats in Sports is easy. John makes hard material sound easy. Easy midterm and take home final (at least it was for us). A must for those in the Sports Theme.
easy class, great teacher. Makes hard material seem easy. Lots of time to complete homework. Always willing to help. Nice guy!! Best Stats prof. at GVSU!!!
Really easy class.
nade you feel stupid for not understanding.
He jumped around too much. Didn't really care too much if you understood what was going on.
Cute, nice, and smart. What more can we ask for?
An easy class and easy professor yet somehow my A turned into a B because of the final???
A very smart, somewhat geeky guy - perfect for a stats teacher! But he has kind eyes, and seems to care about his students. I recommend him.
Such a nice guy. MAkes the class fun! I loved stats because of him. Will help you whenever you want. Take him if you can!
Funny prof, doesnt really care if you actually comprehend what is going on or not in class. He will go ahead w/ the next topic no matter how many blank stares he saw. Extentions all the time on things. 6-7 proj. + 6 homeworks per semester
Great prof. Tried to keep a not-so-interesting class interesting. Extremely willing to help you succeed.
best math prof i've ever had. actually like the class and i hate math. makes things really simple and full of geeky but funny info. take if can.. can't help but love the guy
Fun prof, keeps the mood light, makes the class pretty interesting. gives you all the notes you'll ever need with each handout, and lets you use a cheat sheet with every test (and 3 on the exam!). No major project or group work, drops some low grades.. pretty easy class if you do most of the work.
He is a good teacher comes up with good examples to teach the class. Is very helpful with students doenst make you feel like you are dumb if you dont know a answer. I would take him if you have a chance to.
Nice guy who did his best to make a subject like stats somewhat interesting to us. Funny and eager to help, take him if you can for a math credit. Prepare for numerous homework assignments, however.
He sounded strict to me as I read through his syllabus, but in reality he's really cool and down-to-earth. He's got great examples and is very helpful if you are confused.
Very straightforward teacher whose exams flow logically from classroom work. No surprises and minimal difficulty. His classroom environment is very positive and friendly.
Loved the class. He is an energetic and funny guy and very laid back. You take notes and stuff but there are a lot of projects and stuff which you end up doing in class. Tests are okay. Overall great class!
Good guy and not too bad of a class. Sometimes boring but only because he had to catch people up on things most people knew how to do. Not alot of homework but you must attend all classes to not get lost or behind which sucked.
I hated the material but I really enjoyed going to class because he cracked me up and was someone I respected and so I felt like I was being especially disrespectful when I did not show up. John, if you read this, I just kept missing the bus. Nothing personal. I also think I'm in love with him.
This is an awesome professor! He's very concerned with making sure you understand what you're doing in class. Super helpful, fair grading, nice/good person.
I was scared to take this class becuase i heard it was so hard, but he made it easy. You get to drop your lowest grades, and there is a minimal amount of homework. If you miss a class, you will be lost though. If you go and pay attention, you will do well. He is also very nice and funny! I highly reccommend him!

I would recommend him to anyone. He makes Stats fun and if you don't understand something, he is always there to help you. He makes the class fun as well and he is funny. Trys to liven things up for his morning class.
Fun guy, very smart, won't hesitate to explain something if you don't understand.
Have had him for two classes now great teacher cares about students. only problem is that he has someone else grade homework so sometimes there is miscomunication with what he is looking for.
He's a nice, fun guy. I'd recommend him for a prof. The work isn't too bad. The only problem is the questions on the test are sometimes worth a lot.
Very good prof. He does a good job of explaining and is very willing to help if you go to office hours. Attendance isnt taken and everything from exam reviews to homework to class activities and notes are posted on BB. Take this prof.
John is a really cool guy and a great professor. He is very willing to help and does a good job of explaining the material, some of which can be pretty tedious. SAS is kind of boring, but John injects some humor into labs. I enjoyed his class despite the fact that John is a Buckeye fan. Boo Ohio State!
Nice guy. Go to class and pay attention to what he says. You can get a good grade without putting a lot of effort into the class. Just go to class and you'll get and A.
awesome
Great professor. Very knowledgable and is a nice guy. Go to class and you should get a decent grade.
Seemed completely lost at times. Was incredibly disorganized. Appeared to not have a fundamental misunderstanding of how to clearly present the material.
Good at explaining tougher concepts. He makes stats more fun and interesting. Take him if you can.
I loved this class and I recommend everyone to take stats with prof. Gabrosek. Not only did he make class fun, he had a great teaching style and lots of energy that made it easy to pay attention! TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
I love Gabrosek, I took him for statistics 216 as well and he is my favorite professor. He makes the class interesting and is always available for office hours. I would definitely take him.
Gabrosek + sports can actually make statistics fun! Used projects instead of exams, and walked class through concepts with worksheets rather than just a regular lecture.
This was a sports class and all the homework and projects we did was over material he went over step by step in class. Easy A if you at least come to class and turn in assignments on time. I learned some interesting facts related to sports statistics. Really helpful to the point to where he will basically give you the answer.
Very good professor. I enjoyed this class. This was his first year using his own written textbook, so it had an error or two in it, but I'm sure by next year it will polished. I especially liked that his textbook cost a fraction of the regular stats book. Highly Recommended!
One of the best professors I've ever had!!! I hate math and was dreading this class, but he made it tolerable and actually enjoyable! TAKE HIS CLASS!!
I also had him for sta 311 and he is by far my favorite professor. Expects a lot for students but is funny and a good teacher.
Prof. Gabrosek is the guy to take for Engineering Stats!! He is a really nice guy, and knows his statistics and is extremely good at teaching it. There are only 10 homework assignments, 10 quizzes, and 2 exams. Exams are worth a lot, but not too bad. Just study and you'll be good to go!
Prof. Gabrosek. Awesome guy, even stayed after class a few times just to chat with him. if u need to take stat 215 i would absolutely recommend gabrosek. he is a great teacher and spells everything out very clearly so that you understand!!!
Professor Gabrosek is probably the best prof. I've had at GV. He is extremely helpful and walks through every step of a problem. He is so funny, loves getting to know his students and is ALWAYS willing to help. I was really afraid to take stats but after taking him it's such a relief. He's awesome. Take him if you can!!!!
GO TO CLASS. if you go to class regularly, you will succeed!! He makes statistics easy to learn in small steps with fun examples!
317 with him was easy, 321 was harder. He told me he made one of his tests to last 55 mins for a 50 min class. Once he said homework grades did not predict test grades, and could not give me suggestions to study. Homework is easy, but tests are harder and time limited. Good teacher and helpful most times, just needs to structure the class better.
Very kind man. patient and very willing to help outside of class. homework is easy, tests are harder. he explains things well and never rushes through material.
awesome prof. easy class. he made 2 hours of statistics go by fast.
Just. Awesome! You can tell he taught high school before this, which honestly help immensely! Im glad I have him for a a full year :) TAKE TAKE TAKE
Awesome person and a very good professor. Glad I took this class. He makes everything clear and is available to help. Couldn't possibly say anything negative about him or his teaching!
Extremely helpful, will explain something until you get it. Totally recommend taking his class.
Docta G is my favorite stats professor. There is not enough space to say all the good things about him. He is awesome, awesome, awesome, and I cannot recommend him enough!
I had absolutely no interest or experience in statistics before taking this class. Professor Gabrosek is one of the best profs I've had at GVSU and made statistics fun and easy to comprehend. If you have to take statistics, take it with him. He teaches until you get it and is a very easy going guy.
I highly recommend taking him. In class work is very helpful to learning and doing well in the class. So you should be fine as long as you go to class.
Really great at explaining and using examples! Loved this math class!
If you have any stats background I recommend you do not take this prof. He tries to make it 'easier' by being vague and not using stats terms but it only makes it confusing for those with any background.
It's his first time teaching this class, and he did a pretty good job! We used a course pack made by another professor. DO NOT GET THE TEXTBOOK(s) if there is one. It is a SWS course so there is a lot of writing involved. There's a big final paper due at the end of the semester that you work on periodically throughout the course. There is no final.
He is an amazing professor! If you aren't good at math, he will help you. I took statistics in high school, so I thought his class was easy. He gives extra credit and drops some of your homework and quiz grades. The reading quizzes were the toughest to me.
I really liked his class. He splits everything up in a way that is easy to understand and uses in class activities to further the information. Great guy to learn from, highly suggested if you struggle with math or want to get an A in stats. Also he wrote the book.
Professor Gabrosek was a great instructor for the class. He truly knows the material & structures the class in a way that truly benefits the students. Only complaint is his grading scale is different & doesn't post grades so at no time do you truly know your grade in his class. Overall, I great professor though for those with no stats background.
He's a goofy dude but knows what he is talking about and tries to make stats as interesting as it can be. The book is online and there is reading assigned for every class and a 3 question quiz on the reading every class but he drops your 5 lowest scores. Class time is spent doing studies/worksheets together not him teaching the concepts so READ!!!
Dr. Gabrosek was an incredible professor for STA 215. I'd never been exposed to statistics before this course, and I actually felt kind of passionate about the subject by the end of the semester. He wrote the textbook we used in class and he was very knowledgeable on the subject. His lectures really help you learn and he's a pretty fair grader.
He is the single nicest guy you'll ever meet, an amazing professor and very knowledgeable. Take him if you are taking Stats! Watch out though, he is pretty heavy-handed on the homework/reading.
I LOVE THIS MAN. He was the best prof for STAT 215. He definitely makes you work but the classes are always fun and entertaining.
"Docta G" is the best! He goes out of his way to connect with students and help us work together. Everyone pays attention in his class, because his explanations make sense and you know he's actually preparing you for exams and future stats classes. 10/10 would recommend!
I love Dr. Gabrosek as a person, however the way he taught wasn't exactly best for me, and I know it wasn't very good for others as well. He did not have any lectures. Everything we learned was straight from the book or activities in class. I enjoyed the in-class activities, but I personally find it difficult to learn strictly from reading a book.
After taking my last statistics class I was really debating dropping my stats minor. Prof Gabrosek is what kept me going with my minor. His lectures are clear and he is more than willing to answer questions during and outside of class. Would definitely recommend!
Best professor for Stats at GVSU hands down. All my friends that took stats almost failed because their professors were so bad, but Gabrosek made the class understandable. He uses team-based learning which I thought I was going to hate but I had an amazing group! Everyone loves him and he is very personable. If you're taking stats TAKE HIM
Dr. G is one of the best Stats prof out there. He allows a cheat sheet on each exam, and you can put anything you want, even examples. He makes what is going to be on the exams very clear. The hw, is easy points to gain. He is a funny corky guy and remembers his students, and generally cares about his students. 10/10 would recommend
He's probably a better professor to take for stats, but I wasn't a huge fan of his teaching. If you enjoy team-based learning then he's good for you, but I was not a big fan. He wrote the textbook for the class, but it can be tricky to comprehend. A very nice guy but I did not care for his teaching (or the subject itself).
He's okay. The Team Based Learning really wasn't my thing and everything you learn is on your own through the textbook. Then you just work on activities with your group and he may go into little detail about some questions explaining how to do them. He's really nice just learning style wasn't for me.
Professor Gabrosek overall is a pretty good teacher. He brings great energy and enthusiasm to the course. However, he doesn't lecture a lot, and that's tough for learning statistics. I felt like I had to teach myself a lot of the material.
Gabrosek uses a team based learning to teach his classes. So the entire semester you are working with the same group. He wrote his textbook himself so it is sometimes hard to follow and he requires it to be read. He makes you take quizzes over the material before he even teaches it, requiring you to teach the concepts to yourself.
I really liked this professor! He knows what he's talking about, and he literally wrote the book that we use. He is super nice and helpful, and never looks at you like you asked a stupid question! Just make sure you attend class - he knows when you miss.
I LOVED Dr. G!! This is a team based learning class, so be sure you work well in groups. A lot of the material you have to teach yourself, but he also goes over the important topics in class and has really good points to make. He gets to know every single student in his class and you can tell that he wants every student to succeed.
Honestly, the class material is not that hard, but the information all has to be taught to yourself. Professor is nice, but he uses a team based class, which means you need and rely on the other members of your group, who are assigned. His grading is also weird and not ideal, but it's hard to explain.
He requires his students to use a textbook he wrote and it is not very well done. The problems are very hard to understand. He also requires you to teach the lesson to yourself before class and then take a quiz, which destroyed grades because the textbook was hard to understand. He took an easy class with easy concepts and made it complicated.
DON'T! The guy wrote the book, first red flag. This is the one of the only Stats classes at GVSU where you have to code. This class was made to be way harder than it should have been. Just take another prof. He's a very nice guy, started out the class with a fun little chat question to lighten the mood but the tests and HW were so hard and FREQUENT
Dr. G is a nice guy, he would always answer questions if you had any. We were required to use a coding system in this class, and idk what other stats class requires that. You have 6 HWs and 2 tests and a final. Class material was boring but not too difficult if you paid attention. I didn't really read the book, only used it to get hw questions.
I really liked Dr.G! He made 321, which was online this semester, still a very interesting class. You can tell he really cares for his students and wants them to succeed. He gives a fair amount of homework and is always willing to give extra help. If you have the chance to have him as a prof definitely take him!
Dr. G is so kind and makes stats engaging. He breaks it down so it is simple to understand and he goes out of his way to help students and make sure they understand the material.
Learning maths can be boring, but meeting a good lecturer can turn everything into gold. Gabrosek is one such person. If given the chance, I will choose his lectures. Although sometimes he is a little clumsy, but his heart to make us fall in love with mathematics is enough to make him deep impression in my heart.

For starters he wrote his own textbook which is poorly written. You don't NEED to read the textbook or really anything to do okay. He teaches you everything you need to know in lecture. His homework is harder than his exams which is good. He talks very fast in his classes. Overall good class and good Professor if you can keep up with him.
Dr. G is the best! Take him if you have the opportunity to. His lecturing style is easy to follow and I thought that the workload was fair. He is very nice and helpful if you are struggling to understand something and go to his office hours.
Awesome prof. Clear criteria and instructions. Most everything is done in a group assigned at the beginning. He is always accessible and answers any questions you have. Even the Stats minors were able to keep up fine and learn a lot of statistical analysis.
BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD!! always quick with email replies, exams were clear as long as you went to class. He taught really well and the exercises we do in class were all similar to the exam! Recommend taking this course with this professor.
Dr. G was an amazing professor who always made time to help students when needed. For groups, they are assigned early and you are with them for the entire semester, but Dr. G checks in to see that everything is going well. You can tell that Dr. G genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed, he truly goes above and beyond.
Dr. G is awesome! Everything he teaches is clear and straightforward. All work is done in groups, so make sure you're okay learning that way. He clearly cares for students and he always has a smile on his face. Absolutely would recommend.
Dr. G is the best professor in the entire university. I have never had a professor create such strong bonds between his students and with his students. He cares about your success as his student, as well as personally. He puts in the effort to make class as fun as possible, and I couldn't recommend taking a class with him more!!!
Professor G is great - clear lectures and cares about students. Group work is key, but with the right study tools like unstuck study, the course is manageable. Definitely recommend.
I LOVE THIS MAN. TAKE HIS CLASS. Grading expectations are clear and very fair. Class style is group-based (TBL). I have never had a group-based math class before, but I enjoyed it and learned a lot. Dr. G cares about his students and is very approachable and always happy to offer an explanation/extension with valid reason, etc. Amazing prof.
good guy, made me look forward to class
Dr. G was a great prof for sta 216! There was only one actual group assignment, but each unit has a test that has both an individual and group part to them (in case you mess up). His class is set up with readings before the class, then a readiness quiz, and then you do in-class activities. He explains every step he does pretty well.
I have no clue how anyone could give this man anything other than a 5. He is the sweetest and makes stats extremely digestible. I literally cannot emphasize enough the fact that he is the goat
Dr. G is amazing! So nice and cares about his students. He learned everyones name before the first day. Took me a while to get used to, but I love the in class activities, they help you apply the knowledge, and he explains everything. Very group based but I got a best friend out of it. Two exams but the final isn't cumulative. Take him if you can!
I have taken Dr G for 3 courses. He is one of the greatest Stats profs and cares so much for his students. All of his classes are group based--you do inclass activities and projects with a group. This helped make activities much easier and gives you good connections in other stats courses. An absolutely amazing prof. Take him every chance you get.
Dr. G is one of my favorite professors I have taken at GV! He is so kind and quickly remembers everyone's names. The in-class assignments are easy to follow and are great study tools. We have two exams (the final is not cumulative) and a partner project in between exams. Dr. G is easy to approach with questions and wants to help!
LOVE Dr. G. The course is designed very straightforward with the RAP and TAP processes per learning module, and I enjoyed the TBL format more than I thought I would. Dr. G makes concepts WAY easier to understand, and his workload is very reasonable (light homework, quizzes on readings). Highly recommend if you are able to take his section!
