Garrett is a great teacher! Very clear, helpful, and interesting.

This guy is crazy he is all over the place. He loves economics and it shows. Upside to this is class is never boring.
This is the worst teacher ever. When returning tests to everyone he made fun of the people who got bad grades IN FRONT OF EVERYONE. I could'nt believe how rude he was. I would advise everyone NOT to take this teacher. He is TERRIBLE
He is excited about what he is teaching, however my friend, who also took the class with me, and I were not always able to understand what he was talking about and had a difficult time studying for his test. Would realy love it if he gave a review or aleast information about what to review.
take him if you can
This man is a complete nutcase. He is extremely confusing and doesn't even try to help students. He is not a good teacher and you will have a COMPLETE HEADACHE IF YOU CHOOSE TO TAKE HIM> I would not recommend this teacher to anyone.
HORRIBLE! His class notes make no sense and have nothing to do with the tests. Def. the worst teacher I have ever had! I do NOT recommend you taking him. He does not care about his students, only what he teaches.
Way to hard... His lectures are useless, and the tests, my GOD they are hard. He shows no interest in helping students learn, only bragging about his accomplishments, and how smart he is.
his class is waaaay boring. he doesnt make any sense and his tests have nothing to do with what is in the books or what is in the notes. the entire econ department at utc is bad. i would recommend going to chatt state if you want to get your money's worth !! AVOID THIS PROFESSOR !! SAVE YOURSELF
this teacher is horrible If you take his class, please get to know Jesus because he's the only one who can help you pass this class.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I THINK THE ONLY SMILES ON HERE ARE FROM HIMSELF BECAUSE HE IS A HORRIBLE PROFESSOR !! HIS TESTS DONT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE NOTES OR WHAT THE BOOK COVERS. THE WHOLE ECONOMICS DEPT AT UTC IS A MESS !! TAKE IT AT CHATT STATE IF POSSIBLE !!
Pay attention to what he says you need to be able to explain for the tests. Know how to compare and contrast the different topics he covers in class. He was really biased politically and I didn't pay to come to class to hear about his political opinions.
This man used his Class as a Political platform, His test have loaded questions that reflect his Political veiw. He's Rude and Synical. its an econ class. he defantly missed his calling......he should have been a political science teacher.
I don't know what everyone is talking about. This was the easiest class I've every had. His tests come directly from class notes, which means I never read a chapter (I skimmed). I made an A.
Very hard course but great teacher... attend every class and you will do great... i made an A. Be sure to include in every essay u write something positive a/b democrats! This will improve ur grade for sure.... Great Teacher overall and very smart man!
A wonderful teacher. i love his class. i dont read the book or anything and even missed a few classes and still made 103 on tests and he is an awesome teacher. he is the on teacher that can keep me awake during class. i would take him if you can. just pay attention in class and you will do really good.
His teaching ethics are unclear. He grades by tests and thats it!!!
hard yet very fair- easy to talk to and discuss things
He is a very bad teacher. Embarasses you in front of the entire class if you make a bad test grade. Very hard to understand and changes is mind about the test at the last minute so you have no idea what to study. STAY AWAY!
HORRIBLE TEACHER! He is very unclear and expects you to be a genius in economics. Grade is only based on 3 tests(all essay) that are the hardest tests I've ever taken-everyone in the class agrees also. If you are taking him, drop the class and wait til he is not teaching it. Seriously, the worst teacher I've ever had.
i dont know why everyone doesnt like him his tests werent really easy but he gave a very generous curve. i made an A and didnt have any trouble
I thought dr. Garret was helpful and kind of entertaining. I was scared of econ before but his test were pretty straight forward. maybe read the book though b/c alot of the questions are from the book. I think for a boring subject he made it entertaining. Don't take it if your a rebuplican though, cuase he's very left.
Seemed to have no interest in his class and the success of his students.
Dr. Garrett was awesome. Just do your work and come to class and you shouldn't have any problems. I learned a lot and loves this class.
Great Professor, he is very spastic and all over the place. Don't skip class because you will need everything he says for your essay test, especially the first one. Very interesting because he applies what you learn to what is acutally going on in the economy.
He's a good teacher. go to class and take notes b/c itll help u on the test. Also he does occasional pop quizzes but they arent hard. He doggs on republican economic choices so like other person said don't take him if ur republican. i liked the class
DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!The worst teacher ive ever taken in my life. doesnt care at all about students...tells you that you will fail the first day of class
Nice guy, but quirky. He made fun of my shoes during an exam. He has an amazing memory. He remembers names and past grades; it's a little shocking. Quizzes and tests are difficult, but he gives massive curves. Take good notes and don't miss class. Reading isn't necessary but it will definitely help.
Class can be tough, so be in attendance. I missed a few but still made a A. It's not hard if you can do basic math, answer political questions in favor of Democrats, and remember Y=C+I+G+X-M. Remember crowding in and crowding out. If you can't pass, you're technically retarded.
I've had Dr. Garrett for 101 and 325. He's extremely straightforward and very knowledgeable. If you've had him for 101, then 325 will be a breeze. It's basically the same format but a little more in depth. Get ready for that take home midterm in 325 - it's a tough one.
Wonderful professor!!! First exam is take-home - very tough!!! Our 2nd exam was open book/notes, although he said that was the first time he'd done it and it was just an experiment. Final exam was a soft-toss lob - many chances for bonus points and overall fairly simple if you've paid attention. He's very smart, very helpful, and very friendly.
This is the worst professor I have ever encountered. I was not understanding some of the course material, so I made an appointment with Dr. Garrett. Not only did he not show up for our appointment, but he accused me of not coming to class when I had clearly been to all of his classes. He got smart about missing our appointment and offered no help.
Garrett is a really nice, quirky guy. His class can be really difficult, especially if you have no real prior knowledge to economics, so GO TO CLASS! The book doesn't help nearly as much as your notes will (although you will need to read it). I've worked really hard for a B+ so far, but it's not difficult if you really put in effort.
Garrett is cool. Buy a recorder because he tends to go fast and jumps around a lot. He is very helpful in office hours and seems to appreciate students dropping by to ask questions. I enjoyed his class so much i am changing my major to Econ. SIT IN FRONT OF CLASS AND DONT BE ABSENT. Impossible to pass test without info from class.
Garrett is a terrible teacher. I made an A in ECON 102, and barely passed his class. He is a diehard democrat and will bash republicans all semester. I learned nothing from this man besides how awful republicans and fox news is. Stear clear from this man.
He just might be the worst professor i've ever had. All he does is stand in front of the class and give his opinions about the governments actions concerning the economy. His test ask complete random questions, which he never even mentioned! Do yourself a favor and dont step foot in his class
The only professor who taught me something my Freshman year. Very engaging lectures. No homework, grade is on 3 tests, quizzes, and participation. Gave about 8 quizzes to prepare class for first test, and he curved the grades on them. He wants you to understand the material because he cares about educating the laymen to the economic situation.
Great teacher. The class seems to be very difficult for some people but at the same time easy as crap for some. I am acing the class and never looked at the book once. If economics is your thing then he will be an easy A. If not, he curves all the grades so you still can do well in the class
I loved Dr. Garrett! He's very enthusiastic about his topic and has a very good sense of humor (albeit sarcastic). The material is kinda hard and there's a lot of straight up memorization, but he puts a nice curve on tests. Very helpful outside of class; he even let me interview him for a project for another class! Very cool teacher!
If you wish to learn the way the world works take this guy. I've only had him for upper division classes but the stress of the exams is offset by the knowledge gained. In order to make an A you must be bright, attentive and willing to work hard
Garret expects students to pay attention and to study, but really wants his students to do well. When he notices people are stuggling, he does things in class to try to help. He give pop quizzes that are difficult, but if you take notes while he discusses them it makes tests much easier. Likes statistics. Really knows his stuff, very opinionated
terrible. didn't care about his students unless they were passing. known to give 5 pop quizzes in a row. very few opportunities to raise grade. no homework, or extra credit. just pop quizzes, two tests and a final. i really don't recommend unless you are really good at economics.
Dr. Garret is not as hard as people say he is. The topic is difficult and thats what gets people. If you read the book and go to class getting an A or B is not that difficult.
He's a really cool dude. Always willing to help and seems to really enjoy students stopping in to ask for help. Tests are pretty tough because of the ambiguity built in to his questions. I agree that if you go to class and take notes and ask for help when you need it, it shouldn't be too hard to get an A or a B.
This professor is not good. He constantly talks about his opinions, and they are usually unrelated to economics. He is available in office hours for questions, but if you expect to get a good grade in his class, expect to compromise your beliefs. He HATES FoxNews and Conservatism. I could've learned much more economics and much less opinion.
He's great! You either understand Economics or you don't. Go to office hours and he can explain anything! He's very helpful! This is a MUST GO TO CLASS! not because it's required, but because you will be lost and fail without it! Pop quizzes and only 3 tests! :) Take him! He's good!
Dr. Garrett is not difficult. The material can get difficult but he grades more than fair. Read the chapters and study notes. 3 hours a week of studying is plenty to get a B. This class and 1010 should be required. You don't have to agree with his views but he tells you how the world works. If you don't study or come to class don't bash him here.
Garrett is a genius. Only take this class if you truly want to learn about economics. Just listen in class, take good notes, and read the chapters and you will have an A. It's hard to fail if you listen in class. He grades with a major curve and helps anyone who needs it. He's a real economist who knows what he's talking about. Take his class!
Dropped it because it was super hard. It's all lectures and pop quizzes then two tests.
FANTASTIC. very smart, is crystal clear about what he expects you to take away from his class. overall reading the book is not as important as paying attention and taking good notes. REALLY wants his students to do well and likes getting to know who everyone is. tests are hard but he gives a HUGE curve (once 20 points). would ABSOLUTELY take again
Professor Garrett is a very intelligent man. He constantly shows us how the material relates to current events. Not very hard, I doubt you will find an economics class where reading the book and reviewing notes aren't necessarily. If you do find one, you probably won't learn much in it.
Prof. Garrett is brilliant, humorous and very fair in his grading. I enjoyed his class.
This is one of the best teachers I have taken. Of course you need to attend class which goes by way to fast. If not attending I am sure that your rallying of with the tea - party movement or the Wallstreet sitdown if your not attending his class which is why you are giving him a bad score in here. Keep up the good work.
Very intelligent and quite humorous. Almost all of his quizzes and tests come just from his lectures. Questions are tricky, but if you listened, took good notes, and read over the questions carefully then you will ace it. HUGE curve because everyone neglects the simple things. He's not anti-Republican and presents information without bias.
Professor Garret is one of the best teachers i've had the pleasure of having. He is incredibly brilliant, and does a great job of making large, complicated concepts understandible to someone with little or no understanding of economics. Come to class (not mandatory but recommended), read sometimes, and collect your A. It's that simple
Professor Garrett is a great economics teacher. If you want to do well just attend every class and take good notes. Be sure to read everything he tells you to. He will give massive curves on the tests. Seriously. They're huge. He's a funny teacher and I really liked his class. If you have/want to take economics, I recommend him to anyone.
Funny, and helpful as long as you show you care. If you go to class and pay attention you can make a good grade. very reasonable. Good curve. enjoys in class interaction. Really nice guy
A great professor. Very passionate about a subject that is difficult to be excited about. I would absolutely reccomend him for macro. He knows his subject through and through!
Professor Garrett is a wonderful teacher. He knows a lot about his subject and does his best to explain the material. He is not a professor whose classes you can miss often and still know the material, though. If you go to class and pay attention, there is no way you can make a bad grade.
His organization of this course is extremely vague. He never went by the reading schedule until the end of the semster right before the final. We had a pop quiz just about every quiz. If you want to pass Econ 1010 I recommend DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS
This professor was absolutely wonderful. I am a Political Science major who took it two semesters ago. The man knows his stuff, and his politics as well (so it keeps things interesting). He isn't a liberal, he is an economist! He does a wonderful job teaching and explaining Keynesian economics in a way that anyone can understand if you TRY.
Garrett is an excellent professor. Yes, it is a somewhat difficult class. Yes, you will have to go to class if you want a good grade. Yes, you will have to study to get a good grade. If you go to him in office hours he will do everything to help you out. So this class is not really any different than any upper level class. Take this class!
GO TO CLASS and you will be fine. His quizzes and tests are hard, but the curve is huge. Take good notes, pay attention, and youâ??ll probably get an A. Reading the book will also be a big help. Prof. Garrett is a nice guy, with a good sense of humor. If you need help, go see him as soon as possible, because concepts in Econ build on each other.
Prof. Garret is definitely opinionated in all of his political views and some of what he says is a little irrelevant to the class, but if you GO TO CLASS, and TAKE GOOD NOTES you should be fine in the class. It's not an easy class by any means, but if you're willing to put in the effort you'll be fine. Plus there's always a generous curve!!
Loved the class!! This is college at its best! No Free Ride is worth it. Great class for someone interested in bettering their understanding of economics. Curve is wonderful! Great Professor
He is a very good professor, but you have to pay attention. The grade you get is earned, but there is a curve.
The worst professor I ever took. I went to class everyday and still did not pass the class. I went to his office hours and he was not willing to help. He only went over the test with me, but I could not keep it to see my mistakes. He was nice just was not a nice professor.
One of the most brilliant professors in the country. If you want to have the best economic base understanding, you shouldn't take anyone else. Only economics teacher to make me lean forward in interest throughout whole class.
Worst teacher I have every had. His lecture is scattered and he makes no sense. He makes you feel stupid when you ask questions. Basically he tells you straight up half the class fails. I have never missed a class and read the book, also took amazing notes and still failed. Essay questions on his test are ALL OR NOTHING points. No half credit.
He is a Great professor. He is clear and his class is not that difficult if you attend class and take notes. He is hilarious he has a pretty obvious liberal lean but going to his class was like watching John Stewart
Great teacher. You can tell he enjoys his job and is very helpful with any questions that you have. The class is not a walk in the park but if you pay attention it is nothing you can not handle. I really enjoyed the class.
I enjoyed him! He doesn't take attendance but you must go to class to do well. If you don't go and take notes you will be lost. Even if it doesn't seem important write it down! Book is used for understanding basic terms and clearing up some concepts but 85% of the material comes from lecture. Tests are long, but if you go to class it is easy.
Great teacher! you can see he is passionate about his job and knows how to relate his lecture to the actual world. The class is very interesting, but you have to attend in order to understand. He is also willing to help if you go to office hours.
Great teacher that is very interactive with his students. He is always willing to help and answer every question. If you like economics this is the class to take and it is by the most informational class I have taken. It was a joy to take his class and I encourage all students to take his class.
Dr. Garrett is an interesting teacher. Though I would say i'm conservative, his obvious liberal political views were more entertaining than offensive. He is willing to reteach concepts if multiple people say they are confused. DO NOT MISS A CLASS. He covers a lot. I came out with a better grade than I expected from his extra credit and curves.
Professor Garrett is by no means an easy teacher, and if you aren't the type of person to work for your grade then he's not for you. That being said, he is an awesome teacher with a brilliant mind. He's a HUGE liberal but all economist are, and his comments are really more funny than insulting. If you care about the quality of a class, take Garret.
Professor Garrett is a great teacher and is willing to help anyone, but you have to put forth the effort in the class. You have to attend every class because so much material is covered but simply reviewing the notes after every lecture really helped me. Studying your notes and reading the book are a must but it is possible for anyone to get an A.
a fairly witty and overall good guy, he makes boring material understandable. the grading curves are very helpful and i feel like i have a better grasp on economics
Professor Garret was funny and his lectres were entertaining. Lets face it Econ isn't super interesting but he d a good job of it. All I did to get an A was go to class every day and review my notes right before class. Quiws were unannounced so the pre class review is important. Just go to class and pay attention and this class is easy.
Very interesting teacher with great insight on economics. He enjoys the subject which makes it easier to listen to him.
Garrett was a great professor! Even though we covered some relatively complex economic theories, he did a great job of making it understandable for everybody. It is definitely possible to make an A in this class as long as you show up for class and take good notes. Almost all of the material on the tests and quizzes come from his lectures.
Professor Garrett is the man! He is a great teacher, and he loves Economics. His sense of humor is hilarious, you will quickly catch on to his sarcasm. Although don't expect to walk into his class and just make an A. You have to earn it. Go to class, take notes, and read the text book. He gives a generous curve. I Learned so much in this class!
This class is taught by a great professor who knows what he's talking about. Passing the class requires studying and going to class, but it is not hard if you put in the extra effort. It's an easy A if you study.
Very good professor. You will have to work in this class(it is college after all), but it is not hard to make an A. Go to class, take notes and do the readings and you will be fine.
Dr.Garrett's class was my first economics class ever. Your grade consists of unannounced quizzes, two tests, and a final. Come to class, take good notes (and review them),and do the readings--you will do well in his class. I made a B, and I worked full time and am a chemistry major.Dr. Garrett is a very reasonable and interesting teacher.
For students who are logical, who are good at math, who enjoy or at least can understand abstract ideas, this class is a breeze. Professor Garret is very clear in his teaching, making sure to emphasize hard-to-grasp concepts. The most important thing is to show up to class and to take good notes
Dr. Garrett was by far my favorite professor this semester! His course is very straightforward, and he tells you exactly what you need to do to succeed in his class. READ THE CHAPTERS (I can't stress this enough), take notes, and show up to class and you'll get an A, guaranteed! He's a pleasure to listen to, and is a great guy! - Seth Colon
Garrett is a great professor and entertaining public speaker. All you have to do is go to class and take good notes and you'll be more than fine. The readings provide a framework for the material, but your notes are far more important. Take this class. You'll learn a lot
If you attend Professor Garrett's class, pay attention, and read the assigned readings, you will do very well in the class. All of his tests are over the exact material covered in class so if you attend class and take notes you shouldn't have a problem.
I made an A+ in this class. At the end of the semester, Garrett emailed me with praises about how well I had done in his class. Here is the advice he told me to give:Well the course is somewhat deep, but it’s not that impossible. In fact it’s a moderately easy A for most students if they are good workers ( about 25 students got A's in your class ).
Coming to class and taking notes is critical to receiving a good grade in this class. Garrett is a great professor who truly knows his craft. I thought this would be a hard class, but I made an A+ and thought it was easy throughout.
This man lives from your tears like a gypsy. The graphs you derive must be perfect. Always ask questions and try not to miss a class. It really helps when you go by his office, he is extremely helpful but is not afraid to tell you how dumb you are in-front of class or one on one. Everyone usually does so bad on the exams, he must curve by 20pts
Seeing as there's no such thing as a free lunch, you'll have to do some work in this course if you want an "A". However, it's attainable if you go to class, take notes, do the reading, ask questions, and study some. You will learn more intermediate concepts in 1010, but you'll get your money's worth. You'll get some laughs along the way, too.
garret is a great professor and can sometimes each fast but if you go to all the office hours youre guaranteed an A. I thought I was going to fail the class but if you show effort then he'll treat you good. go to class!!!!
Worst professor ever. He speeds through the lectures expecting everyone to already know everything. Doesn't explain thoroughly. I would go to office hours and ask questions which would never get answered. No study guides, just tells you to read the book. If it wasn't because he curved the grades everyone would fail, no exaggeration.
