Great teacher, by far the best I have ever had. Really left a mark on my life. I really enjoyed his classes.

He is an execellent teacher. No one should make less than a 'B' in his class.

Tough subject, helpful outside of class, He has a PhD so he talks a little over most people's heads. Very nice person though.

Dr. Golben is the best teacher I have ever had. He made physics fun and enjoyable. He really made an impression on my life. Hes also very down to earth for having a PhD, but tells really bad jokes though.

Good teacher; however, temperamental if you challenge what is believed by scientist society. Made class interesting but don't question unproven theories.

Excellent teacher. He doesn't have a foreign accent(very hard to come by in a physics prof) and he has the ability explain very difficult conecpts in a way that is easy to understand.

Awesome teacher. He definitely knows what he's talking about, and he makes the material interesting. He tends to tell some terrible jokes, and he's got a goofy sense of humor, but he's really a pretty funny guy. He's very helpful, and makes the information easy to understand.

Good teacher. Knows what he is talking about. Tests go over pretty much what he covers in class but can be a little difficult. Lets you use a note card for equations. Labs are time consuming but easy. I will probably take him for PHY 2.

He's brilliant, and a great teacher. I highly recommend him. He organizes the notes, labs, and exercise material extremely well. You can make over 100% on pretty tough tests without reading the book. Some of his jokes are pretty funny while the rest aren't that bad.

The best Physics instructor there is. He explains the material in an easy to understand manner, with out dumming it down too much.

I have him for astronomy. He is a great teacher. Explains well. Easy, short labs. Quizzes are a little challenging if you do not study enough.

Dr. G is one of my favorite professors ever. He makes the material interesting and very easy to understand. The jokes, while totally corny, always make me laugh. Tests are challenging but straightforward; he takes 95% of his questions from the problem sets in the back of the binder you purchase from the bookstore, so study those and you'll ace it.

DR.G... What can I say about him except he should be the Calhoun Teacher of the year !!!! The only thing that would improve his class would be better jokes...

Okay, Dr Golben does not only have the looks, but he has the brains too! He is so smart you cannot help but keep up with his lectures.He is by far the best Physics teacher you would could ever have!

I took Dr. Golben for all my physics classes. The best science teacher I ever had. He worked with me, since I hadn't taken Calculus yet. If you study, the grade will come. He's so nice, and so helpful. He'll do his best to help you out. Don't buy the book though. Just his binders. I spent over $200 on it and didn't crack it.

Dr. Golben was GREAT, by far my favorite teacher/class of the summer. AST 220 requires discipline online, but his lecture videos are really helpful and his tests are drawn directly from the study guides (test banks). Do the work and you'll get a good grade. Very interesting class (corny jokes and all).

I had him for physics 1,2,&3. He is by far the best professor I've ever had. He doesn't just teach you the material in an efficient manner, he leaves a lasting impression on your life. It's definitely worth the drive to the Decatur campus, even if you live pretty far away(35+ min). He uses power point and organizes everything for you perfectly.

Took his online class and I did all the work necessary and earned one of the highest grades in the class. If you watch the lectures, take notes, do the study sheet, you will do fine. It's work, but you can make an A. Highly recommend

He's one of the most wonderful instructors I've ever had. You will take his tests in class time. His binder includes all the lecture notes, problem sets, and lab manual. So you won’t need to buy anything else, and I never needed the book. Before every test, he'll go over and help you be ready for it. I highly recommend him.

Dr G is enthusiastic about teaching, quite humorous and more than helpful if you need it. It wasn't the easiest A in the world, but he helped me get there. Great teacher!

Took his online astronomy class. Definitely buy his binder! I made good grades on the tests because I did the study guide for each chapter that's in his binder. Overall a fairly easy class, and if you have any questions he answers them quickly by email.

Dr. Golben is absolutely amazing. The material is hard but he makes it easy to understand and will always take your questions. He also does a great job of making a more difficult subject fun. I never used the textbook but his binder is essential. It has all his powerpoints, labs, and chapter problems in it. It's a God-send

I took Dr. G for PHY I, II, and III. HE is the best professor Calhoun has! Go to class, go to lab, and pay attention! You will make a good grade! Sample tests are just like the real thing!

I took him this summer and he is a GREAT teacher! He really knows his stuff and is very helpful! DO NOT get the textbook for the class! All that you need to get is his binder. For his tests just make sure to do all of his practice problems from the binder and know the concepts in his sample tests and you'll do great!

One of the best, most helpful teachers I've ever had. I missed a class due to illness, and he actually sent me a video of him going over the problems reviewed in class.

Good Professor even though a little cheesy at times :) His course was very educational! He was very enthusiastic about the subject.

Dr. Golben may well end up being the best professor you may ever have. As an actual Physicist for several years before teaching, he is passionate about his subject, and some of that may rub off onto you. He's very organized and clear in his lectures, he livens up dry material with a unique sense of humor, and saves you $ by using his binder.

Dr. Golben is a VERY good teacher! I had him for physics 214 and his tests are not easy but he knows what he is talking about and is extremely helpful one on one and if you have a question. We mainly used his lecture notes and examples more than the textbooks. I got my first ever B in his class but his class was hard and I was happy with the B.

I had Golben for Astronomy 220, an online class. I didn't watch many of his video lectures, but they seemed to be helpful if you learn well that way. This class is very easy if you do the study guides available in the big white binder you get at the school store. When I emailed him for help he replied within a day.

Coming from an outside university where the physics department was subpar I was very impressed by Golben. Usually when you take a class at a community college you don't think "oh yeah, stellar science department" but he was a wonderful find. Golben is everything I look for in a great teacher--passionate, knowledgeable, and available to help.

Attended the online Astronomy course. His lectures were clear and informative, with some cheesy humor. Great teacher, I discussed many topics that were not even related to the course with him and he was full of knowledge and enthusiasm. Sometimes he talks slow in his Tegrity videos, bump them up to x1.25 speed if you find that to be the case.

WONDERFUL professor. He made a class I was dreading, not just manageable, but enjoyable. Labs were very informative, and I enjoyed the online simulations. Quizzes were really simple. Tests were similar to his sample tests, but different enough to make you think- you have to understand the material. I had a great experience with the class and Dr. G.

I've taken all 3 of Dr. Golben's Physics classes (1 in class, 2 & 3 online) as well as his online Astronomy class. He is an amazing teacher & lectures are interesting as well as humorous. He makes his subjects, that sound like they would be hard, very enjoyable and almost easy. He is always available via email & gives extra credit when needed.

I really enjoyed this class, he lets you use an old version of the book so I only spent $10 but the lecture notes helped more. If you do the study guides you will ace the tests & the moon project we did was fun. I knew I would like him because I had him for physics I. He's funny, smart, and easy on the eyes. Take him for all your physics needs. :)

Im an engineering student at UAH and did not expect the physics to be hard at Calhoun, but I was mistaken. He is probably the best physics professor I have ever had and I definitely didn't think he was easy. If youre looking for an easy an A, don't take this professor. Very nice, and teaches really well. I wish he could teach all my classes.

Dr. Golben is by far my favorite teacher. He has been great in both PHY 213 and 214. He goes over every type of problem on the board and even gives a sample test for each exam, so they are a breeze. The labs are easy but useful. As long as you work out the problems in his provided book, study some and come to class, an A is in order.

I hate physics (and I'm also bad at it), but Dr. Golben gives you all the material you need to succeed and do well! He's a very fair grader; he knows when you're trying and thinking the right way, and he gives you partial credit where he can.

He is a good teacher, I took him online and he does everything he can for you. You will not regret taking him.

Dr. Golben is a great professor, I took him online and it was a very easy class. Though, the lectures are lengthy and get boring but I got an easy lab grade for him. Would take again. He gives 100 study questions but 45 of them make up the test.

He's a great guy, great professor, and knows the material he teaches. Textbook not necessary for Physics 1 and 2. He loves giving extra credit. He lets you use a formula card for tests and gives partial credit for test questions when he can. Sample exams and clear solutions to them. Clear solutions for everything really. He's so organized!

Everything is on Quizlet. The EASIEST class I have ever taken in my life. I would do it again. (actually no because that cost money I don't have but ya know) anyway super easy. Just print your study guides and go to quizlet and than take the test because they are word for word. Labs are not that hard either and very interesting. Passed with an A.

Although majority of the test and lab quizzes are on Quizlet, Mr. Golben expects all of his students to read the textbook for the class and watch his lectures; even though his lectures are boring. Mr. Golben's class is an easy A and he will do whatever it takes to pass his class! He's also really funny and super smart! TAKE HIS CLASS!!!

Dr. Golben is fantastic. If you are able to take him for physics, don't think twice about it. Take him! All of my cousins took him and they recommended him very highly to me. After taking him myself, I have only good things to say about him. His lectures are easy to understand, and he really cares about his students.

Taking it as summer online class. Please read the deadline/syllabus in order to catch things up or work ahead. Book is necessary. Do your study guides (print them out). Do your quiz! He is really great at communication. I enjoy and learn a lot about astronomy. You won't regret taking him.

Dr. Golben may be the best professor that calhoun has to offer. He really knows what he is talking about, and has thorough explanations to every homework problem. His classes typically have 12 quizzes, 7 labs, and 4 exams (mostly not multiple choice).

Dr. Golben is a great instructor. I needed a natural science class and this was the one to take. Liked his puns in the lectures and the study guides for each chapter help exponentially. Moon Project is also fun, labs can be difficult to navigate, but are simple questions.

Great, funny teacher. Loves what he does. Really tries to give you everything you need solidly learn everything. Works though every hw problem in a video. Tests are tough. And take the full 2 hours to take.

I took 213 and 214 with Dr. Golben and got A's. Class is 12 quizzes, 7 labs, and 4 tests. If you can work the problem sets and sample test you will be fine. He adds a 5 point extra credit problem to the end of every test, and offers even more credit post-test. 214 is a harder class, but that is because of the subject matter rather than his teaching

Greatest Teacher to ever walk to walk the face of the planet. Highly recommend taking and get ready for lots of corny physics jokes.

I wish I Dr. Golben taught other classes I need, or that I had disposable income and could just take his other classes. His lectures are great. He has such a dry humor, that I look forward to his lectures and getting to hear some new tidbit that busts me up. I enjoyed astronomy thanks to him. If you work the practice test, you will have the answer.

I now have four college degrees and this has been the best professor I've had.

Honestly, I hardly ever rate professors but Dr. Golben is WORTH IT. Physics with calculus is so difficult but he actually made it easy to understand, he literally gives sample tests, problems straight from the homework, and so many grading opportunities. He truly went above and beyond to make sure I made a good grade in the class.

Dr. Golben is a fantastic teacher. It's immediately obvious that he loves teaching, and he's more than willing to help you if you run into issues. He offers ample extra credit opportunities, he prioritizes learning the material and problem solving, and he provides practice tests and recommends homework problems to study with.

Took this class online in the summer, really straightforward class. I actually used the textbook a lot when filling out the weekly study guides. And the tests are based directly off the study guides. Good class overall, especially for non stem major ppl.

Professor Golben is the best STEM professor I've ever had. I took Physics w/ Calculus 2 with him in Fall 2020, and I'm about to start Physics 3 (modern physics) this summer. All of his lectures are really good, and you'll always have at least one example problem for each one on the exams. He likes to sneak jokes into his lectures.

If you're interested in astronomy at all, take this class. You can tell he's passionate about the subject. Plenty of extra credit options, the chapters are packed with information that everyone should know. Easy A if you're willing to learn. Favorite class I've taken so far

Dr. Golben is the best instructor you could find if you need to take Physics for Engineering degrees. If you are not good at Calculus, this course might be very challenging. Don't rely on online answers and don't cheat; he knew if you'd do. I think if the course is too easy to cheat, it'd loose its credibility. So, I'm glad he's tough on cheaters.

John is awesome. I took him online over the summer for a science credit and I did not regret it. Pretty much every quiz answer is on Quizlet. The labs and Moon Project are easy and fun. His lectures are great. He has dry humor and his videos are from like 2007. Would definitely take again.

Very good teacher. I made a B in his class. If I would have studied correctly on the first exam, I would have made an A. He takes a difficult class and makes it easier to understand. He does not get caught up in the "I'm smarter than you" attitude. I came away from his lectures understanding rather than confused. Good Teacher. Highly recommend.

Golben's class was great and extremely informative! His class says you don't need the textbook, but, in my case all I used was the textbook. While expensive, it really helped me understand everything better. Pay close attention to the fine print of some of his exams! Overall, great professor and very caring. Easy to reach with questions.

Dr.Golben cares about his students.He is easily accessible outside of class. He gives extra credit. He made PHY214 easier to understand. The class subject was very difficult. He rewards hard work. This class will teach more than Physics it will also teach you perseverance. You will need to study or you will fail. I would recommend him for PHY214.

This course is not an easy A course. Hard working and algebra math skill are required. The professor is great. He's a quick responder. Everything is pretty straightforward: working hard and get good grade. I didn't spend enough time for the course, so I got a B. Tips: follow the instructions and syllabus.

Professor Golben was AWESOME! His exams come from the study guide and they are very straightforward. His lectures are very informative and you can tell he is passionate about the subject. Every chapter consists of one chapter quiz and then one lab quiz (the labs are really cool and easy). You have multiple opportunities for extra credit. 10/10

Golben was great for Physics 1 and 2. Lectures were heavy, but he provides you with everything you need and has plenty of practice problems with full solutions to make sure you're on track. Labs definitely help your grade. Also scales tests and gives bonus points. Put in the effort, and Golben will work with you to make sure you succeed.

I would 100% recommend Mr. Globen!! He was extremely understanding and offered lots of opportunities for extra credit!

Mr. Golben was great! This has been the most well laid out course I have ever taken. It was clear and straight forward. Study guide answers were easily found online and in the book. Tests were straight forward and open note. You will actually learn things from this class, which is a plus. If you get the chance, take Golben for Astronomy.

Solid class. Got a bit stressed out by all the tests but he gives you study guides with all the possible test questions, and if you write out the essay questions beforehand you can use your notes on the test and copy paste. Not the easiest class but not the hardest by a long shot! Also funniest professor I have ever had!

The video lectures are a bit old. At the beginning of the semester he just straight into lecturing no introduction to the topic as a whole. He does have a good amount of test but he provides a study guide and you can use notes on the test. very easy course overall. He has one project, i suggest doing this at the beginning of the semester

Dr. Golben is a wonderful choice! Very thorough and provides detailed guidance for students about course material, course expectations, grading criteria, and other resources. NOT a cake walk course! You must put the work in, do ALL hw probs and know which/how to use the formulas for quizzes/tests. Very accessible teaching style for all students

Dr. Golben is awesome! I'm generally pretty awful at physics, but he was good at explaining the content in a way that was easily understood. You MUST work hard in order to pass! He doesn't just hand out good grades. I didn't necessarily enjoy this class because ew, physics, but Dr. Golben made it a much more bearable experience!! :D

The material itself is difficult. Exams are most of your grade. You MUST learn the concepts which takes time/ effort. Dr. Golben sets you up for success later in life. I now have moments where I realized his classes will prepare you for upper level engineering courses, like when your parents would say "you'll understand when you get older".

I took Physics Two with him as an online class, and while it was hard its structure in a great way that is easy to follow and really sets you up to succussed in his class. You'll have weekly quizzes and labs but he gives you slideshows for notes and practice problems with videos of how to solve them. He's a great professor to take for a hard class.
