Gives one 10 min break in the middle of a 3 hour long course. You can't leave class for the bathroom because it's "disrespectful". Makes snarky comments if we don't work on in-class projects over the weekend. Some of us have jobs. Treats adult students like preschoolers. Said he hadn't figured out the project handout yet because it was "confusing."
Hes a new professor and obviously never taught an actual class full of students. He makes you ask to go to the bathroom. If you dont talk anime with him he wont like you which makes him bias towards your grades. He will put his face to your art work to critique it. He takes off for the smallest details like a spec white space in a painting.
This guy limits your creative potential so, so much. Whatever rough sketch you have on your desk is going to get laid into and you're going to be asked to change it to "better fit the rubric." I mean, I do not understand. Art is already subjective enough, and I have this guy rating my hard work? I've had to trash so many amazing pieces.
Taking him for history of illustration and he is the worst professor I have ever had. He reads every lecture from a pre-written paper and does not speak loud enough to hear. He does not post rubrics for anything and changes things (like our test layout) without warning. Constantly ranting to us about how "busy" he is like he didn't sign up to teach
He just reads of notes he got off the first google search. He's hard to understand, and is inconsistent. He lacks professionalism. He complains about not playing video games because he is too busy teaching. He did not follow syllabus when it came time to the midterm. Essays are unclear and do not have rubrics.
Hes a nice guy to chat with, but just not good at teaching. Feels too much like a high school class, was really strict about us not leaving early and had to ask to use the bathroom. Assignments are unclear and takes off for the smallest details. He read a PowerPoint on the first day and then never taught us anything the rest of the class
This professor is comically bad. His class was the definition of a dull, lecture heavy class. However, the worse of the part was that he would barely talk, and when he did speak up, it was him complaining about being busy and being unable to play video games at home. His grading system is never made clear, therefore making assignments a nightmare.
Provides great recommendations on your artwork. Tries to show how you can improve on your work. Makes you work hard.
Allows you to be creative and gives good feedback on your illustrations,
If you're thinking of taking his class, don't. He is extremely unclear on assignments and takes points off for minor details. Many of us work as well as go to school and he is very inconsiderate of our time; we spend 3 hours in class watching youtube videos and are expected to work on assignments exclusively at home. Also has a very snarky attitude
If you want to learn how to draw, take another class. If you want to learn valuable lessons, take another class. If you want to be treated like a human being, take another class. Basically take another class. Waste of time and money.
He will treat you like you were like in high school again. Very controlling man and if you leave his class during lecture hours (which is basically watching YouTube videos and him leaving little to no commentary on the video(s)) you will lose participation grade. Awful professor, so snarky, do not take his class.
If you want to learn some valuable information and have a professor that is easy to approach, then please, DO NOT take this course with this professor. This man could not garner the respect of his class, as he behaved as though he didn't care about the course material. (TLDR: Want to get your money's worth for this course? Don't take Goldsack.)
Helped during online course
Very important to do the work. He will help if you ask.
Professor Goldsack helped me during the online learning period.
I've been in school for 7 years, and he's the worst professor I have ever had. He makes excuses if he makes a mistake while grading. He doesn't respect your time; class is watching YouTube videos. His critiques are shallow and uninformative. He will harp about how we need to have good time management, but constantly complains about how busy he is.
Gives super arbitrary feedback. This is the only professor I had to complain about because he refuses to demo anything he wants us to learn in class. This class was basically filled with 90% YouTube videos. He makes you draw furries and toys (I wish I was kidding). No good portfolio pieces form this course. He is nice though.
I do not recommend taking this professor if you truly want to learn how to draw. This man's class is a lot of YouTube videos with only about 10% being actual drawing. He takes off points for small things and does not respect your time. He is very nit-picky and will spend an hour telling you to get better but not actually provide any helpful advice.
One of the worst profs Ive ever had! Hes rude & unwilling to help. If you try to ask a question he will cut you off before you get it out & answers based on the few words he allowed you to get out. Changed availability of the slides so we couldnt study before quizzes & changed exam question style because the class did so well on the first one.
This professor is so terrible, he literally writes his own reviews on here to try and boost his score! The level of unprofessionalism in him is absolutely unbelievable and he represents KSU so poorly. Does not respect student's time at all, very rude, and unwilling to help. Class is based entirely off of YouTube videos and PowerPoints. Do NOT take!
Goldsack is a horrendous teacher- from derogatory racial comments, increasing test difficulty because he noticed students doing well, to forging positive reviews on this page to make himself look good - he has made countless academic and ethical flaws. I wouldnt wish this professor on my worst enemy.
On the first day of class, his exact words were I dont like teaching. Thats quite a big red flag already and were just getting to know him. Having him as a professor at KSU is an absolute joke. Grading policy is atrociously unfair. Complete set up for failure and huge waste of time. You could teach yourself better than he can. Save your money.
He isnt a good professor at all. The class itself is very simple and easy to get an A but if you want to learn something dont take him. He just reads from a piece of paper then entire time and speeds through the PowerPoint that he doesnt post online. I can barely understand him when he speaks. Easy class but not good professor.
This man is miserable. He reads off of a sheet of paper that covers his face, reading exactly the same thing on his PowerPoints. There is no help from him. He grades Willy nilly. My boyfriend did 1/4 of an assignment and got the same grade as me who did the whole thing meticulously. He speaks negatively towards students and sounds bitter always. EW
Total of 4 tests. Some tests were based off the weekly quizzes and others based on lectures. Lectures are long and it is difficult to understand the professor. Tests are 50% of overall grade. Required attendance as a grade. There is a color wheel, photography, and perspective assignment that are graded harsh for a gen-ed.
ABSOULTE WORST TEACHER!! I wish I wouldn't have taken him at all, he reads directly from the slides word for word. There is no passion when he speaks, and even told us he would rather be home playing video games than teaching. Classes are mandatory and if you have any reason why you couldn't come it's a battle with him. DO NOT TAKE!!!
So this class was pretty easy, all quizzes are laid out just like the online lectures. If you don't wanna take notes, just take pictures of the slides and it is word for word. Discussions started out to do with the lecture then got a bit more fun. You have like 4 projects, all are easy. 10/10 class definitely recommend if you need the credit
Do not take his class. Listening to the lectures is enough to make you cringe. I did not do one homework and it dropped my grade by about 10+ points. He does not provide extra credit, and he is very rude. Just honestly take another professor.
Goldsack is not the best when it comes to technology. Our final we almost could not access. And when I emailed him was very rude about it. Tests and quizzes are very easy. And I loved the class material it was just him as a human being.
i took this class online so it was really easy. Everything (including the final) was on quizlet. DO NOT GET THE TEXTBOOK THROUGH DAY ONE ACCESS YOU DONT NEED IT. there was one quiz and one dp every week with some projects sprinkled in. this class was a breeze.
I have attended this school for almost 2 years now. Never have I had a professor as bad as Goldsack. He treats his students like they arent respected. His emails are unhelpful, and his class is death by PowerPoint. Externally monotone and always has an attitude. Im not exaggerating DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!
Are you ready to sit an take notes for 16 weeks? Ready to hear a monotone voice read the textbook to you for a whole semester? Then this is the professor for you! He makes no effort to make the class any more fun than watching wet paint dry. You could replace him with an audio book and it would be more interesting and more effective. Don't take.
He reads from a piece of paper every class. He puts up PowerPoint slides and tells us to take pictures. He never explains anything or tries to help out students struggling. The test consists of quiz and PowerPoint slide questions. He is extremely rude and does not respect his students. Do not take this class.
honestly worst art teacher I have ever had. he reads straight off a PowerPoint and never answers students questions thoroughly. participation matters and he is harsh about it. I would not recommend taking his class.
This man is the most passionless instructor I have ever had to experience. The entirety of his lectures consist of him reading into a sheet of paper and droning on for the whole class period about subjects that neither him nor his students seem to care about. I would hope John Goldsack has the conscience to reconsider his career choices.
Sucks at teaching all he does is read from textbook and attendance is mandatory
pretty easy class , absolutely awful professor. lectures are attendance mandatory but absolutely useless, annoying voice and policies such as no eating in class and never letting class out early.
Please, if you take this course, try to take it online. It was so unnecessary and a waste of my time. He reads directly from a sheet of paper which is showing exactly what's on the screen. He was disrespectful to students and didn't let them have the benefit of the doubt. Please find another professor for your sanity.
reads straight from the powerpoint and gives assignments that have nothing to do with the lectures. attendance is mandatory and will not excuse you unless you have a doctors note. horrible professor do not take him if you can.
The other reviews are correct, Mr. Goldsack does read off papers instead of actually getting creative in his own method of teaching. Now, the reason I would take this class again is that it's easy & you can find the quiz questions EASILY on quizlet, but tests are in person so you would need to study at some point. Do the projects and you'll do well
The course material itself is interesting in my opinion, but Mr. Goldsack is the complete opposite. Don't buy the textbook, you wont need it. If you can, don't take this class at all. He's repeatedly made racist, homophobic, and transphobic remarks in class when they were both rude and entirely unrelated. He is horrible at communication as well.
This class is VERY EASY. However, this is quite possibly the most bored I have ever been in any class relating to school. He reads straight off the paper, can't answer questions, and is just flat out boring. If you can, take this class online. All I did in class was listen to music and barely take notes, and I finished with a 99.
He does a good job teaching the material and yeah his class is lecture heavy, but honestly there's so much material to cover there really isn't another way. His quizzes and tests are a breeze especially if you pay attention. Assignments are easy. He'll give guidance when asked. Literally put in minimal effort and you won't have any trouble passing.
He does not post dates, the syllabus is the only location for dates for anything, and half those dates are wrong. Taking this class was a mistake, and he has no care about his students.exams are easy. 4 projects, all a waste of time, if you are forced to take a fine arts credit so the university can milk you for more money just take theater.
He reads off of a script and speaks with zero emotion for the entire class. The course is very easy. There are weekly quizzes and then four tests that use the EXACT same questions as the quizzes, so make sure to take note of them. Hardest parts of the course are the 'creative' assignments which he grades a bit harshly for a gen ed class.
Literally 0 communication on when final grades were coming out. Had an A all semesters then got bumped down to an 88 even after getting a 100 on the final. He never taught anything just read off of his paper that had way more information on it then any slide he ever put up.
Would not recommend this professor. His class is literally death by power point. He passes out a sign-in sheet in the beginning of class and you get a grade for it so if you are taking his class I recommend you show up. His class is not hard but it is soooo boring and feels like it goes by so slow. He simply reads off a paper all class.
Whispers during his lecture and is very rude to students. Lectures are just him going through PowerPoints which give direct questions and answers that are on quizzes. Quiz questions are the test questions as well. Very few small projects.
Professor Goldsack is ok when it comes to course policies. Attendance sheet is understandable, and not having a cumulative final really helps. But when he lectures, it sounds like he's not interested in the subject he's teaching, therefore making the students listening feel not interested. You can pass the course easily, but it may feel boring.
Goldsack isn't bad but he's not great either. He's just very soft-spoken and boring which makes the class feel like it's taking forever. Uses a sign-in sheet for attendance. Quizlets exist for all the test material which makes it very easy to pass, so long as you study the Quizlets. Overall you will want to pull your hair out if you take him.
Honestly not the move. I've never not shown up to a class or been late as many times in my career as I did with this class where attendance is mandatory. It's extremely boring and he doesn't post lecture slides until after the quizzes so you have to rely on the notes you took during class to take them. 10/10 wouldn't recommend.
The only bad thing about this class is that it is boring and attendance is mandatory and 10% of your grade. But it is such an easy A if you go to class, take pics of the slides, do every quiz and hw assignment and study your quiz answers for the tests. Great class if you like to sit and not talk and not really listen and just get other work done.
Best Professor at KSU. Took him last semester easiest class at KSU. The weekly quizzes are the the tests so just study those quiz answers and its an auto A. You can take pictures of every slide and use them for the online quizzes making not getting an A almost impossible.
This class isn't hard, but the professor just mumbles through an hour and 15 minute lecture and he doesn't care enough to notice if the students are retaining the information shown through the powerpoint slides. He only teaches through powerpoint, and there is a weekly quiz online.
Boring, kind of rude, honestly an easy class it was just boring.
mumbles through entire powerpoint for an hour and a half. there's a quiz at the end of each week that based word for word on the lectures. attendance is mandatory so most people are doing something to drown him out. test questions are from previous quizzes. some projects given too but they're easy. just make sure you do the work!
I don't even take this class I showed up one day with two friends because my other professor canceled. Straight up just mumbles off a list an clicks a powerpoint button thats it I couldn't imagine taking this a whole semester without a pillow and a blanket.
terrible class. He does nothing but mumble and click on a power point all class. He also does NOT respond to emails. Don't expect anything but him to complain all class period too.
the reviews made me nervous, which, rightfully so- but honestly, if i had to take him again, i would. the best thing about this class is that its literally the easiest A you might ever get, which, ill take. BUT the worst thing about this class is that its comically boring, he really does mumble through the powerpoint & attendance is mandatory.
The class itself isn't hard, but him as a professor makes the class miserable. Attendance is mandatory. He goes through Power Points fast and will get rude when asked questions.
Lots of slides.... he pretty much mumbles through presentation then gets grumpy when you cant take notes fast enough. Super easy class, but the attendance is mandatory. I would rather have a more difficult class with a better professor than him. His complaining is really annoying too. He seems like a nice dude, just not a good professor.
Waste of my time, complains a lot, doesn't respond to emails, attendance mandatory for him to read the textbook to you
If you aren't able to attend class for whatever reason, you automatically get a F. He lectures the entire time, and you can't hear what he is saying. We are assigned weekly quizzes and you don't know what you got wrong (no feedback). And the exams, you are not given any feedback either (just the # of the question you got wrong). JUST TERRIBLE
it is an easy A if you go to class. Attendance is mandatory, must have a doctors note if you are sick, or proof of death if you are at a funeral. U have a weekly quiz, four exams, and 4 actual art projects that are easy but time-consuming. he reads the power points and gets grumpy when no one listens.
Easy class, nice guy, not a great professor. Attendance is mandatory and if you just miss one day, your grade drops like 4 points. He mumbles a lot and reads straight off a packet the whole time. You get a quiz every week that isn't hard, very few exams, and like 4 assignments throughout the semester.
His class is very lecture-heavy all he does is read off notes the whole class and mumbles, you cant hear anything he says anyways. Very boring. Hes not lenient with making up assignments, so if you miss something you get a zero. wouldn't recommend taking him.
An awful person. Called me out in front of the whole class for missing a test and said I was lying when two of my best friends died at that time. He does tests on the big screen. Over all just terrible.
The worst professor I have ever taken! He is incredibly rude and will yell at you if you ask questions. Told me my sketch assignment looked too "sketchy" and gave me a 70. Claims he said things in class that he didn't... and then puts them on exams. He also gave exams from a Google slide that he talked through, don't waste your time!!!!!!
Attendance is only mandatory because he takes a tiny grade each lecture but there's nothing actually useful being given in the lectures. He uses a textbook but no required reading. Don't let the bad rates scare you the class has a curriculum of a 6th grade class. Just make sure you write down the quizzes and study them.
hes kinda unhinged but not in a good and funny way but in the "how did this guy not get in trouble with KSU's HR yet?". His class is really easy and the tests are 95% from quizzes. They are in person tests though. Some drawing assignments too. Honestly just use the time in his class to do other work for your other classes. It'll be more productive.
I feel so bad because everyone is saying he mumbles through lectures. He does, but because he's missing part of his tongue and jaw (he apologized to the class for mumbling at times and explained this). Not the worst professor! He does read straight from the slide, but super easy if you take notes. #Stop the Goldsac Hate
Very hard to understand over a speaker and spends most class time getting onto us. Does not like his job at all. Attendance is mandatory, and he reads off of a piece of paper every single class for full-time. Quizzes and tests are easy but would not recommend.
Literally sucked. I do agree that I played a part being as that I eventually stopped going to class. I remember specifically when he revealed that classmate of mines family member passed during his exam period the proceeded to joke about it. Whatever you do DO NOT take this man!
his "mumbling" that everyone is complaining about is due to mouth cancer. kinda dismissive but realistically you won't even need to ask him any questions. the tests were 6th grade level so it is a very easy course if you just study the weekly/bi-weekly quiz questions.
The class is easy and I have an A+, but his teaching style is soo bad lol. Attendance is graded and missing several classes can really bring your grade down. The assignments and exams weren't difficult. He kinda has an attitude, and gets really defensive if you point something out that he did wrong or ask anything at all which is a bit annoying.
Horrible! He mumbled in the mic, the entire time. If you couldn't make it to class (appt, sick, etc.) you still received an F regardless for that class period. Instructions for projects are unclear and points taken off for minor things. Absolutely terrible!
I agree he mumbles but tries his best to be clear (I never had a problem understanding him). His lectures on average are over 100 slides when the tests are only 20 questions… the amount of info to study is overkill and insane BUT the tests are relatively easy. My only other critique is that project guidelines are kinda vague.
This class is relatively easy. All you have to do is make sure you write down your weekly quiz questions and study those for the test and you should easily make over an 85 on your test. Attendance is mandatory. I suck at art and did ok on the HW assignments as long as you follow the rubric and put effort into it, you should be fine.
He does his best, but lectures were dry. Projects were relatively easy (start early/check rubric). Best approach: take pictures of slides and work on other stuff in class. Study the PowerPoints or quizzes to prep for exams. Attendance is mandatory (keep people from skipping). If you want to engage with/learn the content, consider another professor.
dont do it
Do not take this professor. The class was very easy but he does not care about his students and is incredibly rude. There are better professors for this class
I wouldn't recommend this professor if you care about art, his classes are insanely boring and he mumbles the whole time and makes attendance mandatory. The class is easy to pass but his assignments are not organized, no lockdown browser for quizzes but test are taken on paper while he shows the questions on the board.
TBH this is such an easy A class. Yes, the prof doesn't try to explain the topics given that he reads everything off of a paper; quizzes/exams are easy and straight off the slides and there isn't any involvement at all. But for someone who wants the credit and a grade boost this is good enough. Just memorize quiz questions and you're all set.
This professor is genuinely one of the most awful teachers I have ever encountered. My SDS accommodations were not followed, he gets irritated when students ask questions, and the lectures are extremely lengthy for such a short time period. If you want an instructor who cares about your wellbeing, consider a different professor for this course.
The class is SOOO boring. Take it with a friend if you can. The content isn't hard, but I couldn't tell you one thing I actually learned. He prints out a script and reads off the paper as a form of lecturing, and does that for the whole hour. Show up to class and be on time because he will figure out who you are and give you a 0 for attendance.
Attendance is mandatory and relies on lectures about the readings and art, however the power points are online and the textbook is actually free! The main complaint about this class is that it's boring, other than that the professor just seems kind of drained during lectures. The online quizzes are not lockdown. Just go to class and it's an easy A.
I believe Professor Goldsack unfortunately has/had mouth cancer, so it is really difficult to hear what he's saying during the lectures, but he tries his best. PowerPoint slides and long lectures. Let us out early all of the time. There are weekly quizzes, there are two maybe three projects, and 4 final exams. Not ideal, but not hard.
Dude flat out doesn't care. Tests are on the big screen. The assignments aren't hard. Quizzes are online no lockdown. His lectures are very boring and its honestly better to use the time to work on other things in his class. Just study the quizzes and you should be just fine. My buddy and I missed the same thing and I got a lower grade so IDRK.
i don't want to be too mean but good lord it's hard not to. Before every test he will ramble saying the same things over and over again. he has a VERY short temper, rude to students. the lectures feel like they last for 3 hours cause he reads off a script the whole class. DON'T take this class.
Very easy class to take, assignments were a breeze. If you want an easy A then this is the class to take. Other reviews had problems but I did not see anything wrong all semester.
