This was one of the hardest classes I have taken at USC. I don't know if it is the teacher or if economics just sucks.

Economics is confusing but it doesnt matter how bad you do on Gordaniers tests because he curves ridiculously ...he doesnt take attendance and you dont need to go...in fact i have only been on test days and made 70's on tests which were considered A's! while i knew people who went every day and made 50's but thats still considered a B!

This teacher never keeps you informed of how you are doing in the class. He tells you that in his class a 70 is an A but more than half of his students fail his tests miserably. Don't take his class. He's boring although at times likes to tell jokes, but they don't make up for how boring the class is.

Gordanier was a good teacher. The class was difficult, but if you worked some outside of class it wasn't hard to do well. He was totally underrated for his humor too, totally nerdy but hilarious somehow. He was helpful in office hours too. I'd recommend him, but some interest in economics might be necessary.

He is very nice, doesn't require you be there for class, and cruves grades like you wouldn't believe! He grades the tests based on the average test score, then curves it from there. If you read before class it helps alot too. He doesn't explain things well. Econ 221 sucks all around, but take Gordanier. It helps.

Tries hard to teach and although he may go over it a million times, not too bad. Attendance not mandatory and we got to use notes on test. Quizes every monday but basically the same as the homework that you go over. Boring class but if you have to take it take him.

attendance not mandatory and lets you use notes on tests. Don't be fooled tho, ridiculous hard tests, avg score for 1st was a 58 (which was a C). Does not respond to e-mails. He curves the tests and makes the quizzes easy enough to make a comfy B and no lower than a C...but an A is almost impossible

I had ECON 221 last semester with another professor, so that may be the reason why I found this class to be kind of easy. Dr. Gordanier explains things over and over again and he only teaches things you need to know for tests and quizzes.Quizzes every week, attendance not mandatory.Open book/notes test.kind of weird-hes obsessed with diet coke

Tests and quizzes are all open note. attendance isn't mandatory, but if you want good notes for the tests you should go. DEFINITELY don't buy the book. Easy B/A.

Textbook not needed which saves you $150. Attendance not mandatory but go because that's the only way to pass. Explains everything you need to know, and if you don't get it he'll happily re-explain it. Fair when it comes to giving tests and quizzes.

To me, I thought that he couldn't teach. I wish that I had another professor the class because I think that I would of had a better understanding. Make sure you go to the SI's because they help a little. Test were HARD, although he gives curves and able to use any notes. My suggesting, don't take him.

Took honors. He doesn't take attendance, but go because that's the only way you'll learn the material. Doesn't use the book. He's nice and tries to make the material interesting with examples and videos, and he has a lot of cool prof. experience with econ. Open-note weekly quizzes, tests, and exams. Curved well. Best econ professor I've had yet.

I thought he was a great teacher, he explained the material very well. There seemed to be quite a few people in my class that didn't understand the material (I thought it was easy) but he would slow down and explain it again until whoever had the question understood it. Tests were open notes, and we didn't need the book

Gordanier sucks, plain and simple. He even confuses himself during lectures. The only way I managed to make a B in this class was attending SI sessions. I ended up learning a lot in this class but it was only because of my SI sessions. I hear the other professors are worse, so I would take Gordanier but remember he is not good at actually teaching.

Copy down the problems he goes over in class WORD FOR WORD. His tests are open notes so you can figure out all the answers from the notes. I made in A in the class and still don't know anything about Econ. Take him for an easy A, but not if you actually want to learn.

I think he's all over the place with his notes, kinda hard to follow him. Personally, I think he explains examples/things in class one way,then later on quizes and homework you're lost because it wasn't the way you learned it. I'm pretty good in all subjects and I'm lost in this class. HOWEVER, he is a very nice and funny person.

funny and nice guy. teaches very quickly but always available to help during hours or if you just walk up after class. don't buy the book if you go to class. i'd definitely take him again, i didn't understand econ at all in high school but understand it (though still not interested in it) now.

This is the worst econ professor.Very boaring, not helpfull at all. Went to his office for extra help pretty much waisted my time. His tests are hard, but you can use your notes on the final exam which wasn't helpful at all.

I hated this class more than anything. He just draws a million graphs and talks faster than you could ever imagine keeping up with to take notes. Attendance isn't required but if you miss class you miss so much. Don't buy the book its horrible and he never even mentions it once.

Dr. Gordanier is an Economics professor and he teaches Economics in a class for generally non-economics majors. It's unfortunate that you might have to learn something about introductory economics in the process but his class is generally pretty easy but I am an economics major. Don't bother with the book, Google is your best friend.

Always reviews materials each class. I skipped at least once a week and still got an A. Drops lowest quiz grade. Quizzes are online and open book. 3 tests + Final. Not an interesting guy but sure is easy! Class was a breeze!

I had him for microeconomics and it was nothing but graphs. ALL you do is draw and analyze graphs. There are no definitions to learn, just grpahing and algebra. No textbook was used for the class, just for an additional resource. Attendance was not important, but missing class meant missing lots of graphs!

Dr Gordanier's class was pretty easy. You have quizzes every week which are fairly easy if you go to class. He posts HW and the answer keys to it, so if you dont understand a problem on the quiz, a similar one is probably explained on the HW answer key. He posts practice exams and finals on blackboard, so definitely do those and you'kk get an A

Nice guy. He's passionate about Econ and knows what he's doing, but is not very good at teaching it. His notes are nearly impossible to follow and if you don't go to class you are definitely going to fail. This class itself is incredibly challenging. I'd suggest avoiding this class if it's at all possible though.

Professor Gordanier definitely knows a lot about what he teaches. He moves very quickly through notes and covers a lot of material in each class, so I would definitely recommend going to class. Do the quizzes each week and use the homework for reference. Exams are all multiple choice and cover exactly what he discusses. Don't bother with the book.

He knows what he is talking about! He uses some funny examples to explain the material, which makes it more interesting. He draws A LOT of graphs and diagrams and you really should go to class to understand the material but Fridays are pretty useless. Not that bad of a class.

This class is not fun and when Gordanier isn't drinking Diet Coke, he isn't teaching either. The weekly quizzes are a little challenging but are only 10% of your total grade. He will give you practice exams for his tests that will somewhat help but they are still challenging. I would take him again as a last resort.

He posts test from semester before and you can use that as a study guide! His test are so much alike with that study guide! If you did bad in this class then you did not take the time to study and go to class! So go to class and look at his study guides and u will get a A or B. Also he curves like CRAZY

Gordanier was a great professor. 3 test, 1 exam. 1 quiz every weekend, you have from noon on friday until 6am monday morning to take it. Mandatory isn't required, but I would suggest going. If you go to class and study, you can easily get a B+/A

Straight forward class. He knows what he is talking about and knows how to teach it. Quizzes are online every week. One thing about the review guides that he posts online for test is that they do not show how to do the problem. only the answer, which doesn't really help if your unsure how to work the problem. Not a bad class to take.

I love this professor. He is extremely intelligent and does an excellent job of explaining everything. He also has a very dry sense of humor, so anyone who appreciates this will like his subtle jokes. His tests are moderately difficult and will definitely require studying. Moreover, his curve is a little strange, so be aware. Overall, take him!

I don't understand the bad reviews; the man is brilliant. His examples and explanations are extremely clear, he's great at simplifying concepts, he's very thorough about prepping you for quizzes/exams, and he's funny. The class isn't a breeze, but it's not hard, either. If you miss an important lecture, his online notes are very helpful.

I hardly went to the class but followed along in the syllabus. He posts the notes online and if I didn't understand something, then I would go to class, or I would go for tests. There is quiz each weekend but they aren't bad and there's a huge curve for the final. He's an awesome guy and I would suggest him.

Take him! He almost never changes his quizzes and tests and anyone who has taken them probably still has them. Attendance isn't mandatory but you'll definitely learn the material if you go. He's really funny and keeps the class interesting.

Gordanier is brilliant, there's no questioning that, but this class is tough. He moves incredibly quickly, and the fact that you don't have a textbook is frustrating when you're behind. Overall, it doesn't take much work to earn a C, but I'd say its nearly impossible to earn an A in his class if you don't invest 10 hours a week in it.

Best econ teacher without a doubt. Class is not mandatory, but it's also NEVER a waste of your time. Class notes are posted online every week so if you miss one you're okay. Going to class & studying I made a 98 on the first test. I didn't go as consistently for the last 2/3 of the semester so I got a B in the class, still not bad. TAKE HIM.

There is a quiz online every weekend and homework problems that are not graded and gone over in section. Attendance is not taken. The tests are very hard because he does not give many practice problems, but he does post the old exams and powerpoints from the class. It is not an easy A, but is doable if you are willing to work.

I LOVE this prof. He takes complex concepts and makes them simple, or at least easy to understand. His examples are always interesting, and he's a funny guy. Tests aren't easy, but he doesn't pull any tricks; he outlines what's on the test in detail, so if you don't do well, it won't be because you didn't know what to study. Plus, he curves. A lot.

Had him for econ221, and that class is what convinced me to become an econ major. Had him again for econ508 - just as amazing of a professor as I remembered! The material's not easy, but he will tell you exactly what's on the exam, and exactly how to do everything. No mandatory attendance, but I wouldn't recommend skipping. Don't buy the textbook.

I would not take this class. I attended every lecture and Professor Gordanier explained the material on a very complex level, rather than making the material somewhat understandable. The online quizzes are easy 100's, but the test's are killer!!

Gordanier is a smart guy and definitely knows what he's talking about but the material was very difficult and his teaching style is not the most organized or clear. He does have a good sense of humor which makes the lectures more interesting. Weekly online quizzes definitely are a grade booster but the tests are killer even if you attend class.

I attend this class everyday. I've only missed one. I show up, take notes, pay attention. I'm still doing poorly. I study for hours and still fail a test. He would probably be okay in a small class, but in a big lecture hall, he is a poor teacher. If the tech doesn't work for him, he can't teach the material but won't go back to it.

The class is pretty interesting and he finds a way to make it really relatable. That is, if you can get past how annoying his voice is, probably the most distracting thing in the entire class. He really loves his diet coke so expect to hear at least one reference about it in an example per class.

Avoid this professor at all costs. Not thorough and just brushes on many of the topics, very frustrating especially if this is your first econ class. He doesn't have a set grading scale in class and doesn't determine it until the end of class. The TA's in sections are no help and will give you the wrong answers for the in class quiz.

I already had AP credit for this class but I took it again and learned so much more. The class itself was tougher than what I expected however and I had previous knowledge of the subject. I can see how some people may struggle with the class, but don't let that deter you from taking it with him. An A may be and 88 too, it's not just 90-100.

He does a bad job explaining, teaches at too fast of a pace, isn't clear at all, has made his online tests harder. Overall a horrible professor. A very smart man, but not good at making his curriculum understandable for a beginner level econ class. I very much dislike his class and having him as a teacher.

I attended every class when I took this class in the fall of 2015. He is by far the worst teacher I've ever had at USC. His lectures are all over the place, no organization, and he's really bad with email. I emailed him about meeting outside his office hours because I had class and he never got back to me.

Lectures were in a huge lecture hall and they made sense until about halfway through the semester. That's when I couldn't track anymore but no fear, the blackboard course documents are amazing and will save. Exams are the same as the practice exams and homework so do the homework! Will help you significantly if you go to his office hours.

Class attendance never taken but honestly go to class or you will not understand everything. He gave me my first ever grade that was not an A and I barely got a B+ because of his curve of the final grade! Definitely get extra tests from test banks and really study hard.

Tests were overall pretty easy, as long as you study the notes and have a general understanding of the material. Some of the test questions come straight from examples in class. He doesn't always upload all the notes online though so going to class is a good idea. Kind awkward one on one/during office hours but overall he is a good professor.

Attendance wasn't mandatory, but if you didn't go, it was hard to pass. He's a great lecturer, but be prepared to take notes. 2 quizzes per week, and he usually did one for you. His exams were easy because he posted his old ones online. Also, do his readings. He says it's not required, but usually two questions from his exams are about them. 10/10

Prof. Gordanier was pretty good at giving lectures. For a class of 350 people, he made the class very participatory and questions were always welcomed. Some lessons he explained better than other but he always made clear real-life applications. Would recommend.

i love this lil angel. if you pay attention in class and take good notes you will do well in the class! his lectures are actually really interesting because he makes them applicable to real life. def would take him again! and he curves your final grade, like this semester, and by the end an 88 and above is an A in the class.

Attendance is taken by iClicker and is factored into your grade. He lowers the bar for what it takes to make an A or B, etc. depending upon how the classes do on the tests. He goes through class quickly and sometimes has a hard time communicating complex ideas in an easy to comprehend way.

I clicker questions count as a grade as well as attendance. Optional TA session on friday, definitely go to it as quiz answers are given. Tests aren't too bad. He's not monotone or boring, I'd recommend taking the class.

I really honestly wish that we were required to read a textbook in this class because even though I go to the lectures, I cannot understand what he's teaching! In my opinion, his lecture notes suck, so I would always have to google what we were learning in class. It's not an easy class and it's kind of challenging; so be prepared for the challenge.

Took him for Econ 221 and it was the second time I ever took Economics (other being from high school) and he teaches it like we are experts. His notes and teaching are inconsistent and all over the place, and he does iclicker points so you have to pay attention to get a good grade. Not a bad professor just makes the class harder than it should be.

His class is so hard. There are two quizzes, one you do with your TA then one you do on your own. there are three tests and final. Each test is 30 questions. If you don't study a lot good luck. Must go to class to know what is going on.

COME TO CLASS--GRADED iClicker points. Prof Gordanier teaches as if you already know the content (not too in-depth lectures), but you can reach him during office hours or through email (more than happy to answer my many questions!). The tests are pretty difficult. Do the readings and know how to do the problems--notes, PowerPoints, etc

He was one of my favorite professors I've had at USC. He has a great way of teaching and gives a lot of opportunities to practice. Definitely use the notes he posts online. You don't need to buy a textbook and grades are based on quizzes, i clicker questions and exams.

This was one of my least favorite classed ive taken so far at USC. Final grades are limited to exams, quizes, and iclicker. He grades iclicker based on how many you get correct, while learning new material. I found that to be completely unfair that he grades us on how well we understand brand new material. The overall class I found to be very hard.

I absolutely love Professor Gordanier. His class was lecture heavy, but economics is interesting to me so it wasn't hard to pay attention. He teaches really well and is always open for questions. He has two quizzes due every week, but if you go to class he gives you the answers. Would definitely recommend.

Taking Mr. Gordanier is essentially paying money to teach yourself econ. He leaves most of the vital information off the powerpoints and expresses them verbally, so unless you wrote it all down as fast as he was speaking you're done. I have had to teach myself (because the class has no textbook) ALL of the information he blasted through in class.

If you do well by teaching yourself material, then this is the class to take. I had to go to class in order to get iclicker points, but I had to reteach myself the material after every class. I emailed him three times and asked him in person twice to go over my exam with me and never heard back.

Gordanier is clearly a super smart guy and is qualified to be discussing this topic. The issue is if you have never had an economic class before he might as well be speaking latin. Would not recommend to someone who has no clue what the basic principle of economics is. 90% of your grade is what you score on the three tests.

Prof. Gordanier is cleary very smart, although being very smart does not necessarily make you a great teacher. He goes FAST, and you are graded on your iclicker responses. He takes a long time to grade exams and is not very helpful via email. There also is not a textbook for the class making it somewhat difficult to teach yourself

This is a very tricky class because unless you can follow along in class 100% of the time it is hard to recover. He grades you on questions he asks in class immediately after he teaches the topic. Exams are tricky and often taken several hours to prepare for. The final was extremely difficult. Hard class to get an A in

One of the best econ221 teachers to take since all the others are way worse. Good teacher, but you need to come to class and listen. The material can be confusing at times, but he gives a lot of notes and study guides for the tests. No textbook. Iclicker questions everyday, no laptops or cell phones allowed. Gordanier is one of the smartest people I have ever met. This class is tough but he lowers the grading scale to compensate for the tests that push you to apply what you've learned. He does a ton of in class examples and there are weekly in class "quizzes" that help with comprehension but you can work with others. Tough class but learned a ton.

He is very smart, but he does a poor job of teaching his lectures all the materials needed for the exams. When he does iClickers he gets very frustrated with the amount of students that will get the question wrong and begins to shake his head and move on, without explanation of how to actually do the problem. ECON221 is definitely a hard class, you will have to work for your grade. But John is really good at explaining the material. Before each test he gives you a practice test, so if you know how to do that then you will do fine on the test. All the quizzes are take home so it is so easy to get 100s.

Thought I was going to hate this class but it wasnt bad at all! He is v knowledgeable and explains things well. You have to go to class for iclicker questions, there are 2 online quizzes due every week, and there are a few mult choice exams but he posts old exams that are almost identical to the new one. Study and go to class and you can get an A/B

Gordanier is a super smart guy, and he makes complicated material easier to understand. He does grade attendance so you probably should avoid skipping, plus it's hard to teach yourself because he doesn't post his class notes on Blackboard. Wish there was an SI for such a big class, but as long as you put in the work you can get an A pretty easily

I would try to steer clear of his courses! He doesn't teach the material well and is a horrible note giver( a terrible combo). Three tests and the final make up probably 85% of your overall grade which is not ideal. Before the the two previous exams I felt extremely prepared as I had studied for a few days. I ended up getting 30 and 32 out of 40.

He's very intelligent and cares about econ, but moves too fast with the material. The grading scale is very exam heavy - about 85% of your final grade leans on exam scores, so you have to study thoroughly for each one. He is very accessible outside of class and is great one-on-one. iClicker needed, but no textbook.

He's incredibly smart, hilarious and entertaining considering he spends most of the class running from one side of the stage to the other. Being a senior I've never had a professor this bad in my 4 years at this school. The study material he gives you are NOTHING like the exams, on top of it you have mandatory writing assignments with no rubric so half the class got 30's on the first one and he doesn't put grades in so you have no idea what you have in the class. a 50% is a C.

He presents the material well during lectures, but god forbid you miss one: he barely uploads anything useful online, and is not very helpful if you come to him. It is entirely lecture-based. No hw/textbook. 2 weekly online quizzes, 3 exams, and final are nearly your whole grade. He moves quickly, so pay attention at all costs (I ritually got a coffee at Global Cafe before class) and take good notes! If you're a good test-taker, you'll do well in this class. Study the old exams he posts and you'll be good.

Gordanier is a funny guy and he is a great professor for intro micro and macro classes. As for this one, the only good thing about the class was the grading scale. There were two exams and a final and three writing assignments which he never told us exactly what to do so many students received 30%. Exams are quite difficult.

He is a pretty good teacher. If you attend class and take good note this class shouldn't be too bad. There's some math and some memorization to do for this class. John is one of the best professors that I have had at USC. This was a 400+ person class so I expected to be bored and lost during lectures but that wasn't the case at all. Johnnnn!! I love this man. Hes so quirky and he drinks a diet coke every day of class which is funny. Took first semester freshman year and it was as hard as expected. Put in the work and youll do fine. He has 2 weekly quizzes and he will sometimes give you the answers to 1. I did peer tutor sessions 1-2 times a week and that made this class easier

I did not known much about econ before this class, but Prof. Gordanier presents the material very simply to where everybody understood the material very well. He does weekly Tophat assignments that are pretty easy, and he uploads practice exams. He also answers everybody's questions during class and makes every lecture understandable and upbeat.

Prof Gordanier was an amazing professor for the COVID semester of spring 2021, he gave three exams which were fine, all of them were open note too. He uses tophat and has weekly quizzes/homework, but overall, he is a great professor with a great teaching method in my opinion. Take him if you can, one of the best there is! #dietcokegod

Gordanierrrr. Take him over any other ECON professors at UofSC. He knows what he is talking about and if good at explaining stuff for you. Tests are open note and online. Homework assignments and lectures are helpful. He also posts super helpful videos of him going over prior exams that are very similar to his real exams.

Gordanier is the best. open note online exams. 2 weekly easy quizzes but he gives answers to 1 of them. He posts videos of lectures that are very well explained and provides several examples. He gives extra credit completion poll questions during class. He gives previous semesters exams for review and they help SO MUCH! I would 110% taking for an A

He is a decent prof, you got 4 exams that are 85% of your grade and the other 15 is from your hw's and readings. The tests are all online but still is hard to find answers, so studying is recommended. Hes very boring to listen to but his lectures are online if you choose to not attend in class. I wouldn't recommend it bc I don't pay attention

Professor Gordanier made microecon easy. His lectures were extremely engaging and he is amazing at relaying ideas in a way that is easy to digest. The tests can be taken over a 24-hour period and do not use a lockdown browser. He is a passionate and knowledgeable professor. You won't need to read the online textbook to pass this class.

Took Gordanier for microecon, and it was AMAZING. He is so passionate about teaching and always does tons of examples and practice problem to get you comfortable with the topic. He's funny and pretty entertaining too which is nice since this class can get boring. definitely take him for econ221, one of best professors/teachers to date.

Open book exams, guided quizzes and exam reviews and poll questions. Easy A if you apply yourself. All of his lectures are posted on top hat the first day you get access so you don't ever have to show up to the class because he teaches the same material every single semester. Watch the videos and ask questions if you have an Si. Easy A if you try.

The way the class is structured is extremely clear, so you have a general idea of how you're doing throughout the semester. Gives lots of extra credit points for participation, and uses TopHat, which I really like. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you need to go to get a good grade. Exams were on your own time, open for a day (but timed).

Honestly very carefree style of teaching. I have seen people struglle because they did not put effort at all but if you put even a little bit of it you will suceed. There is homework every week on tophat, sometimes is hard but nothing absurd. Just do what is required and you'll get an easy A

Professor Gordanier was a great professor. His lecture notes are taken by hand and he does not post the notes from class. All tests are open notes and online. He is very nice and does extra credit questions in class. Economics is a hard class and he does his best to make it easier

You are graded on 3 open note multiple choice online exams and a Tophat score where the textbook, hw, and quizzes are on. You need to go to class or you will be so lost. I had to go to tutoring because the class was so big (450) and you can't ask questions and he is not very clear (also doesn't post notes.) To review for exams WATCH THE VIDEOS!

I don't like economics, but Gordanier made it easy to understand. You should definitely take advantage of the extra help videos each week that review his lectures. You are assigned 2 tophat assignments and reading each week (I never actually did the reading and it didn't matter), which was relatively easy. If you have to take economics, take him.

He was super nice and his class isnt very hard. All 4 exams are online, they are a tab bit difficult. There are 3 top hat assignments each week and those make up 15% of your grade while the exams makeup the rest of it. I would recommend him for this course.

Prof Gordanier assigns readings due before class that cover that week's chapter, which familiarized me with the things he taught in class. There is homework due every week with videos attached to help you understand how to approach the problems. His lectures aren't too bad and being in class counts as extra credit so try not to skip!

You will receive extra credit by coming to class, but if you can't make it he does post notes online. This is a boring class but he is clearly very knowledgeable and a little funny at times so you can get through it. 2 or 3 easy homeworks a week. He's good at reviewing material for exams. Just COME TO CLASS!!!! or you will be so confused and there's really no way to teach yourself. Also exams are open note so come to class to get the notes.

BEST PROF I HAVE EVER HAD!!!! I LOVED having Gordanier. He was such a joy and you can tell he is truly passionate about what he is teaching. He makes complicated topics simple and really tries to explain it to you. He is very clear and concise about what is expected. Homework is so easy it was the lightest course all semester. Good professor, but taking notes in class is difficult because it is a lot of graphs and you don't have time to copy them down. It's one of those classes that is easy to get a B but harder to get an A. Gordanier is a quirky professor, I like him personality-wise, but his teaching style did not work well for me. His lectures have no clear organization; if you zone out you'll be lost in two minutes. Uses a lot of words to say simple concepts. Going to class hardly helped me, but the in-class extra credit questions are beneficial. Go to tutoring.

Professor Gordanier was clearly very knowledgable with Econ, but in a big class as I had him in, I could not connect whatsoever. He made the exams online, which was nice, but it made class participation extremely low. If you do good with big classes, he's great, if not, good luck.

Econ was not an easy class for me personally but I really enjoyed this professor. He was very lecture heavy as all of his classes were long lectures. They were not mandatory because of the class size so definitely go to class if you are ever falling behind. Exams are online but there are only 3 plus the final so you have to do well on each.

Econ can be difficult but Prof Gordanier makes the outlines of the assignments and tests so clear. I found his lectures to be easy to follow and interesting. Personally, i think prof gordanier was ok. The class was huge, and it was hard to follow along with what he says. I also was very confused the whole semester on how things work, top hat was used but it was very annoying. He doesn't really prepare you that well for exams, but its all online.

Professor Gordanier is a great teacher. His lectures, which weren't mandatory, were very easy to understand. All of the exams are on Blackboard and there are 2-3 weekly assignments on TopHat. Only issue I had with this course is that he isn't the best at communication outside of class. Spend time learning the information and you should be fine.

Gordanier is funny, dorky, and a great option for ECON 221. The lectures are as interesting as they can be, all three exams + final are virtual and open-note, and though you can't see what problems you got wrong on the homework until after submission, Prof supplies a healthy amount of in-class extra credit questions. Gordanier knows the content well, but he's pretty awkward and can have a tough time explaining things. He did provide a ton of extra credit in class + resources on TopHat, so if you put the effort in, you'll do well. I did take him honors, so the exams weren't open note unlike his lecture hall, so only take him honors if you really need the credit.

Professor Gordanier is amazing. Although the class is over 500 students and sometimes I can't focus, it's pretty easy. He loves drinking Diet Coke! As long as you are in class to take notes and review your notes, you'll be fine with the exams. Exams are on blackboard and they are open notes.There are extra credit via TopHat. Professor Gordanier's teaching style did not work for me. I found his lectures to be incredibly boring. He also only writes paper notes with atrocious handwriting that no one can read. He seems like a chill dude, just didn't need to hear about his diet coke addiction every single class. If you can take someone else for micro I would.

He is a nice and funny professor, but he doesn't teach well. It is hard to understand what he is trying to teach. So, the exams have a lot of stuff that doesn't make sense. I had to practically teach myself this class.

This class wasn't too difficult and I think that he taught pretty well. Attendance and HW is done through TopHat. Exams are online and not in a lockdown browser. Review videos are provided before each exam. 2-3, 10 question homework assignments a week which didn't take very long to complete. Lecture normally ended 10-15 mins early.

Gordanier's micro class is easy to pass without even going to class. Attendance is extra credit because he gives top hat questions out in class. His lectures are really boring. I had a health emergency during the semester and he refused to open up the work I missed while I was away from school. If I was here all semester I would've passed with an A

John for the most part is a good teacher, some topics are just more difficult to grasp than others. No other grades in blackboard, other than tests. I think he does a have fair grading rubric, at the end of the semester my grades balanced out even though my test scores weren't that great. All assignments were online, even tests.

Really easy for Micro. He does his lectures on pen and paper so follow along with him. Tests are completely open note so just write down everything he does. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you don't go, you won't pass. Participation questions in class that can be extra credit. He explains the concepts with lots of examples, write everything.

Very lecture heavy. Overall a pretty good professor. Explanations could be a bit confusing sometimes so I would recommend reading the chapter prior to going to the lecture. It is very hard to catch up once behind. He offers alot of extra credit through top hat questions and in class questions so that helps a good bit.

He is not a good teacher, even though he is probably better than coffey. I have never been so confused in a class in a really long time and unless you are smart, there are really really hard concepts to learn on your own. Not that I would ever cheat, but the classes previous to mine did not have a lock down browser but starting now it does.

He writes notes on paper so it is nice to follow along with your own notes. Very nice and fun personality. Exams are open note and not too bad.

I loved this professor! He made econ very understandable and his lectures aligned really well with the exams. No quizzes, only practice assignments and some homework. The homework was only participation and the quizzes had video explanations. I would definitely recommend!

If your taking econ, I def recommend taking it with him. You have to do assignments on tophat for credit, but they are easy. He also does the tests online, but with respondus, but it's just the lockdown browser and not the camera. Overall, the class is really easy, just make sure you know the graphs.

Attendence is "optional" but you need to go to get tophat points. I paid attention in lectures and completed the homeworks yet they were nothing like the exams. exams are worth 85% of your grade and they are on lockdown browser. it is open note but i felt that did not even help me.

Gordanier definitely knows what he is talking about, but his lectures are extremely boring and hard to listen to. The exams are oftentimes not like his lectures and homework. Unfortunately, out of the Econ teachers offered here, he is probably the best.

Forget about emailing him cause he is the worst when it comes to communication. I emailed him like 10 times and got just one response after 15 days. Also he is never at his office hours and makes up excuse not to be there. If you have a problem with your test he won't try to fix it.

Prof Gordanier was a pretty funny guy! Even though attendance isn't mandatory, you can't do good in the class without tophat participation or going to the lectures. TIPS: Use the tophat resources like the professor notes to summarize the chapter. The practice exams mimic the real exam!! Pay attention during the lectures.

Professor gordaniers teaching style is not the best. I found this class harder than all of my other classes. He is not accessible outside of class and the class style seems to have no structure. I would not take this class again nor recommend to others

definitely take him if you can. all quizzes are online in lockdown but not proctored. attendance isn't mandatory but he does participation points in class which count towards your grade. lectures are so boring, but it's worth taking him because you will pass. take this class with friends.

Probably the best option when it comes to ECON 221. Lectures were handwritten notes which I was often really confused with but he provided notes and videos via TopHat which were very useful. Exams were pretty tough but he allowed us to use our notes. As long as you put in the effort to study outside of class you'll do fine.

Take him for Econ 221! The only thing is your grade is just the three exams and top hat homework/quizzes (in one grade at the very end). This class isn't terribly hard at all compared to what I have heard for the other Econ 221 classes. He's also really nice and funny during his lectures but I do have to say they are very boring.

Homework is almost a guaranteed 100%, as showing up to class can earn you more points towards homework. His lectures can be a bit boring, and his class felt unstructured. Regardless, it is still possible to do very well in his class (exams are open-note). If you take his honors section, it's no different.

Professor Gordanier is an enjoyable professor! His lectures can sometimes be VERY boring as it is just information on information. He doesn't require attendance but students can recieve "extra credit" points for participating in questions during class. Quizzes and homework are online and very easy to do.

Lectures can be very boring time to time. Homework and quizzes are very easy. The exams are 40 questions and you're given a cheat sheet for each one. He also provides a practice exam. Sometimes he does not explain everything well, but as long as you practice outside of class you should be okay.

This class was very easy and he explained things very well, however if you do not enjoy econ you probably won't like this class. If you go to class and answer the tophat questions you will get extra credit towards the homework. Three, 10 question homework assignments a week. Three exams and a final, all 40 multiple choice questions.

Overall, not bad. The class itself is boring, and sometimes he might explain something for a long time, and you might get lost or feel lost. Material isn't difficult, it's just so many abbreviations to different terms. Exams are in-person, but you get a page of notes, which helps. Go to class for the extra credit for the top hat, its free points.

He explains concepts very weirdly, and quite frankly in ways that over complicate easy concepts. The cheat sheets he allows for the exams carried me because of the amount I was having to study for these + my other classes. Grading is also very weird and hard to calculate, so you don't really know your score until the end. Not great but not bad.

This class is VERY test heavy. While the lectures are clear and he gives plenty of time to copy down notes, the class is so large its difficult to engage or ask questions. If you don't understand something in class expect to teach it to yourself later. I only ever spent an hour on the class outside of lecture each week aside from test weeks.

All classes are lectures but before an exam he goes through an old exam as review, not that much homework, you get a piece of paper front and back as a cheat sheet for every exam, if concepts are confusing just go to an SI session for more help, does lots of examples in class, exams are relatively easy, pretty funny guy. Overall good professor!

Good professor! Very straightforward and made the content easy to understand. He provides a lot of study resources outside of class, including recorded lectures, practice problems with answers, and practice exams. He uses TopHat more than Blackboard, which makes understanding your grade in the class confusing. Would definitely take again!

Dr. Gordanier is knowledgeable and does a great job managing large classes. Top Hat made the homework, recorded lectures, and sections easy to follow. Exams make up 85 percent of the total grade. Some students found the grading calculations a little confusing, but the structure is consistent once you understand it.

First of all: Diet Coke. Gordanier's class is simple, you pay attention and take notes, then it will be a breeze. Exam grades take up pretty much all of your grade, but he allows you a cheat sheet because he understands it can be difficult. I found his class to be really easy and worth it. Should be a simple A.

Purely off his lectures, I think he is a 5 out of 5. Knows his stuff and even makes it fun. However, many of the tests had errors, many times he did not point out these errors and left you to guess which ones had right answers and which ones didn't. If you like econ though, you will enjoy it. Good teacher, just one critique I had. Take him!

Honestly looking back at it the class is pretty easy. All you need to do is look at TopHat, study the notes he provides on there, and look at his past lecture videos. He definitely provides enough resources for you to pass his class. It can definitely be considered hard if you don't study or try hard enough.

If you pay attention and understand the lectures you'll be completely fine in the class. Though, the class is extremely test heavy and there were mistakes on them (including the final). He also isn't the best about responding to emails. Besides it being test heavy, the hmwrk is extremely minimal- only took me about 20-30 mins per week.
