Amazing professor!! Main focus is on making sure students learn.

goulet is the man!
Totally Awesome! If you don't learn here, you're not trying!
Great Guy, Great Teacher
No Comments
He definitely cares about the students and encourages you to ask him questions.
Moves slowly, comes off as patronizing, but with good reason: he makes it easy.
Makes subject easily understandable, interesting by connecting it to your major
I feel i am learning the material really well form him, he makes learning easy
This guy kicks ass. Really nice, helpful, semi-humorous.
Best Prof. I had in 4 years at WPI; great guy; down to earth; very helpful outside of class
Prof. Goulet is the best! Courteous, kind, caring, and always willing to help. He's down to earth and he recognizes how students learn and it shows in his excellent teaching ability.
He's always available to help students outside of class (i.e. lots of office hours). He assigns interesting projects based on a student's major. Lets [CS] students resubmit project for regrading. Made learning Linear Algebra I interesting.
Good guy. Helps students connect the material to their majors.

He is the man. I tool lin alg with Goulet, and it's the best math class I had as of yet. He teaches really well, a fair grader and always very helpfull.
One of the few professors I've had who actually understood his material as well as being able to convey the material effectively to his class.
Great guy, very down to earth. Knows his material and he is very helpful.
Goulet is one of the best professors I've had. MA 2071 is an 8AM class, and he adds 5 pts to your final grade if you show up every day! He knows the material, funny, and very organized. In other words, you want him for Lin Alg!
Rocks da funk
I was only at WPI one term but he is the prof I remember. Clear/focused lectures. He is nice, funny, and very helpful. Wish we had more profs like him at McGill.
Great professor. Class structure (with 'goals') is perfect. Understandable in lecture!
Goulet could teach a rock calculus
Best Math Professor...I think I agree that he can teach a Rock calculus. If you couldn't do it in another class, take his, you can do it here!
this guy rules. he explains things so well and if anyone fails a test they have to keep taking it till the pass. If anyone fails this class they are a dumbass. Go to class and you will learn alot.
awesome teacher...try and get him for any math class you have
made class pretty easy, helped me out when i couldnt make the final
Great teacher. Genuinely wants to help his students. Class structure was clear and very understandable.
Very helpful, and cares about the students a great deal.
AWESOME
Great professor, sincerely wants his students to suceed, and makes a concious effort to make sure students learn the material.
AWESOME!! Take his class if you want to pass; he helps you so much and really wants you to succeed
Best Math Teacher I have ever had...Really cares about the students and is very good at what he does. I reccomend anyone to take this class, especially if you find calc some what difficult
BEST teacher I've ever had. REALLY helpful...if you have any trouble at all he's willing to put in the time during his office hours until you understand the material. He's very clear and overall just good at what he does. His notes are extremely helpful too and good to have around for when you take more math classes.
One of WPI's best! He is very helpful and cares about his students learning. His class is set up to motivate students and make it very possible to pass, while still ensuring that there's a firm grasp of the curriculum. Do HW, b/c while it isn't a big part of the grade (15% for about 20 assignments), it all adds up. Plus, it helps know the material.
Great teacher. Can be a bit sarcastic at times, but if you can take it you shouldn't have a problem. He teaches math in a way that makes you understand it.
By far, the best professor at WPI! His lectures are interactive, very clear, and easy to understand. Overall, a really great guy.
Excellent professor. Extremely clear and concise. Makes math easy to understand, and uses a curriculum that guarantees success. Very friendly, and will go over problems and help you if you are unsure about anything. Highly recommended. :)
He is probably the best professor i have every had. I have had him for two terms and he does a really good job of getting the information across in an easy to understand way. If you r have to take calc two take it with Goulet. If you need a GPA booser than take calc with him
Goulet was the best. I was so awful at math and hated every math class I had before I took Calc with Goulet. I was dreading it but I ended up really looking forward to the class. His structure and teaching style really helps anyone do well and he's so nice and helpful. You can always come to him during office hours.
This guy is one of the best teachers/professors ive ever had. Hes also pretty funny and is extremely clear and helpful.
Truly one of the best teachers I have ever had. One of the kindest!!
Very helpful in teaching the review concepts in Calc I with precalc, Id reccomend the course with him to anyone who feels shaky about learning calculus.
Best Math Teacher I have ever had hands down. I had him for Calc 1 w/ prelim topics, which was an easy class anyways, but if you didn't get it before, he definitely helped you get it. Wish I had him for Calc 3 :(
Best math teacher i've ever had. He made everything so simple and clear. I wish he taught all of the maths here.
Best math teacher that I've ever had. Very clear and seems to genuinely want us to do well in the class.
Best MA teacher ever. He stayed up till midnight to help me with some stuff. HE is EXCELLENT at explaining concepts and you'll ALWAYS understand the material. He is very nice and very funny and always willing to help you whether you like it or not! BEst teacher I've ever had. Unfortunately he only teachers semester courses! sadface.jpeg
John Goulet is simply the greatest math teacher I've ever had. He is extremely clear and fully understands every problem a student may have with a concept. He's also very tech-savvy: he let me do most exploratory assignments in Maple. All around amazing guy and I wish I had him for all my future courses as well!
He is simply amazing I am taking calc 2 with him now man has he helped me out so much
Professor Goulet was an excellent math teacher! I took Calc. 1 with him and recently registered for Calc. 2 with him. He is extremely helpful and genuinely wants his students to do well. He is willing to meet one-on-one with you and responds very quickly to emails. His grading is fair and hes good at giving partial credit. Also, he allows re-takes!
BEST math professor I have had. He knows how to clearly explain math and is really good at teaching as well.
Professor Goulet rocks!!! He was always willing to take the time needed to help a student learn. There were a few times when I had trouble solving some problems in my 4000 level Physics classes, I did not have Professor Goulet since I was a sophomore but he remembered me and was more than willing to sit down and help me.
probably the greatest professor I've had at WPI. teaches class more like a high school teacher rather than college professor and gets to know each student personally. always willing to help students outside of the classroom. very easy A/B if you go to class and listen to the guy. Ask questions if you have them, he WANTS you to pass.
He is an amazing prof. I have never heard one negative comment about him. Try and take a class with him if you can! He is great at explaining everything and will always help you when you need it. He genuinely wants his students to do well. And it is almost impossible to fail his class, which is amazing!!
Excellent professor. His lectures were clear and understandable so the material was a breeze. He's always willing to help. Highly recommended.
Not best experience
Had him for linear algebra. He is one of those rare professors that can just speak math and you understand it. He explains things really well. This was my last math class I have to take, and I wish I had taken my other math classes with him. Awesome prof.
He assigns homework on subject matter that has not yet been explained. This led to me having to teach myself the material before class in order to pass in the homework and then being bored and distracted during lecture because he would go over the basics of something we have already learned.
Lectures are helpful for homeworktests, clear and focused. He is very kindfunny and talks to students before lecture. For Lin Alg, we had a small term project focused on our majors (ex. I'm ECE so I did sound analysis in Matlab). Exams were easy compared to homework. I spent 1-5 hours outside of class. He's a very intelligent guy.
Professor Goulet made his best attempt at making an awful, awful class manageable, and he did a good job at it. It wasn't a hard class, just boring as all hell. Regardless, he graded fairly, made lecture interactive and clear, and was an overall great professor.
Hes a great professor, and I would recommend him to everyone. He was very clear with explanations and his tests were easy if you did the homeworks. The homework assignments are relatively long, but worth it when you see the A on top of your test.
I had Professor Goulet for Calc 1 and 2. He was extremely helpful and willing to spend the time it took with me individually in order to grasp the material. Tests were graded fairly and lectures were relevant. Best teacher I've had at WPI, would highly recommend!
Prof. Goulet was great and very helpful. his sense of humor was on point too
Prof. Goulet is super nice, cares about students, and grades very leniently. I would definitely recommend him.
Easy to follow, no trick questions on tests. Honestly if you put in effort and go to class most of the time, you'll get an A.
Really good professor, explains well, good sense of humor. Only thing is he gives a LOT of hw. Don't wait until the last to do it, or you will be sorry
Great professor, understandable, gives layouts to the test, funny and great lectures. Good amount of homework but all spanned over the week, so not as bad if you don't wait until last second.
Great
Makes you feel pretty stupid for asking questions, make use of office hours. Class is decent paced, not too fast but not slow .
Clear instructions and lectures.
he is the godfather of calculus
Amazing professor for Calculus 4. Great sense of humor, great explanations 10/10 would take his class again.
He's a caring teacher.
Had him for calc 3 and 4. In lecture does a great job of mixing theory, examples, and practice problems to explain concepts. Presents information clearly in a way that's easy to take notes and develop a solid understanding. Encourages and answers questions, and his razor sharp wit keeps things exciting .
Professor Goulet is a great teacher. He is willing to explain things several different ways and is very approachable. His tests are fair, and match the homework. He gives a lot of homework, but you will definitely understand the material by the end of it, and it helps you be prepared for the exams.
Goulet is the bomb. He is so hilarious and very clear in lecture. Take if you have the chance. Sometimes there's a lot of homework, but his persona makes up for it.
Was responsive in class and good with student feedback. He became comfortable with the class itself and was able to make jokes while teaching. He did a lot of examples which helped a lot. It was material I did not enjoy, but the class was bearable.
Great class - straight forward and stress free. Homework is helpful and reasonable. Tests are fair and partial credit is generous. Lectures focus more on the concept and meaning/application of what you are doing, while homework focuses on the procedure. You can skip them but you might miss out on that deeper understanding or a funny moment.
He was exceptionally good at making the course material understandable. Good personality too, and helpful. One of the best.
Lectures are good and focus on the reasoning/concepts. Doesn't give too many examples in class but there are plenty of practice problems provided in the optional textbook work. Tests give solid partial credit and are fair; if you study the topics provided you will probably do well. His jokes and personality make calc lectures more engaging.
He is so classic!!!
He is very patient and a good teacher. If you don't understand his explanation of something, he will take a different approach and work with you until you get it.
While the material was sometimes a bit tricky, he managed to make it pretty understandable. Gave plenty of examples and lots of extra problems as optional homework. The required homework was never too difficult and didn't take up too much time. He managed to make a large lecture class seem very personal.
Goulet does his job. Makes lectures understandable!
Goulet is pretty awesome. You'd be extremely lucky to have such a great professor. Super clear and understandable lectures as well as a pretty funny guy. Would take his class again.
I had Professor Goulet for both Calculus III and Calculus IV at WPI and he is the epitome of an ideal professor. His lectures are clear, answers any questions, and really cares about his students/their understanding of the material and overall well being. Challenging textbook homework is optional, so each student can discover how they learn best
Great teacher, always open to help. Really wants you to understand the theory which could make everything a bit harder
I took MA 1023 and MA 1024 with Prof. Goulet. He cares a lot about his students and is always available to answer questions and make sure you understand the material. He makes the lectures interesting, even if the material is a bit dense. There is no required homework, but it is definitely a good idea to do all of it to be successful!
If you miss a lecture, he posts both the notes AND video recordings online. Homework tends to be very long and sometimes isn't exactly what's covered in class, but is very good practice either way. Always keeps his office hours updated, but is extremely flexible about scheduling other hours. Super easy to communicate with. Also pretty funny.
The best math teacher I've ever seen cares about his work/students, knowledgeable and can really convey why and how math works. If given a choice, I would have him teach every math class possible.
Goulet is an all around great professor. He teaches in a logical, coherent order in a way that you understand how and why. He is very clear when speaking. He has many office hours outside of class and enjoys helping students. He also manages to occasionally mix some humor into lecture. Easily the highlight of math at WPI.
Goulet is a great professor. He keeps things simple so it is easy to understand and the way he lectures is very easy to follow. He does tend to give quite a bit of homework but it is totally worth it because it corresponds to very good practice. All around 10/10 would recommend taking calc with him.
Goulet is a great math professor. He really knows his stuff and makes it as easy as possible to learn the hard topics that are in calc 3. We had dedicated review/ catch up days during the harder material which was a life saver. Textbook homework can take a LOT OF TIME but the tests are very fair with very reasonable questions. Great professor!
Really great professor. Every lecture he would teach new material and then spend the rest of the time doing practice problems. The homework was all from the book. He made sure the class understood the material and his tests were pretty straight forward as long as you study the lecture notes and do the homework.
Great professor, would recommend for students taking Calc 3 and 4. Two or three tests that are very straightforward. Goulet doesn't try to trick his students but tests them for their knowledge of the material. Outstanding.
He's the most amazing man I have ever met. I had him for both Calc III and Calc IV, and I was so happy I got him as a professor. He knows what he is talking about and can actually convey new information to college freshman just starting. He has office hours where he will answer any question without making you feel stupid. Most amazing man ever.
Golet does sometimes give a lot of homework and when it comes down to the wire he does not teach well under pressure, but overall he is a great professor who knows how to explain things extremely well. 9/10 overall
Goulet does sometimes give a lot of homework and when it comes down to the wire he does not teach well under pressure, but overall he is a great professor who knows how to explain things extremely well. Overall, very good professor.
Professor Goulet is the best professor I've ever had at WPI. I had him for both Cal3 and Cal4. The homeworks come from textbook, but textbook is not required. The three exams are relatively easy, if you pay attention to the conference material you can easily get a high grade. He doesn't give any quiz at all. He will record the lecture every time.
didnt let me change my conference so i could get into physics.....
A king amongst men. Took Calc III and IV with him and both were a breeze. Funny, easy to talk to, and could probably successfully explain these mathematical concepts to a middle schooler. I swear by this prof. Take his classes, you will NOT regret it.
There was so much homework the class took up a lot of time outside of lecture, and he makes you feel stupid for asking questions in class.
Goulet will take the time out of his day to help you if you just ask for help. I had him for Calc 3 and 4 and would always be there whenever I needed help. I would email him at 8:30 on a saturday night extremely desperate and he would get back to me in less 30 minutes. Highly recommend Goulet as a professor.
He explains everything in a fantastic way and is passionate about the mathematical connection to the majors of his students. Always a very nice guy. Always go to lecture and down procrastinate if you watch his lectures. HW is due once a week, and when spread out over the week is very manageable (about 5 problems per night). Highly recommended.
He recorded the classes so you don't need to attend. Homework is plentiful and difficult, but it is essential to pass the 2 tests. My hw TA grader was ridiculously fast and precise. The tests were very fair and represented the material well. I did much better on the tests than I thought I did. He tries to make the lectures interesting.
Professor Goulet is a great teacher, and makes it very easy to do well in his class. That being said, if you are not interested in Multivariable Calculus it will be difficult. For the first homework assignment he gave us nearly one hundred problems. I did way more work in this class than I did in Calc 3. Expect a lot of work.
Goulet is overall a great guy. He is easy to work with, understandable, and reasonable. His lectures are as interesting as calculus lectures can be, and he really makes sure students understand topics.
Honestly, close your eyes and imagine the perfect human being. You probably imagine a kind hearted soul, who cares deeply about you and your well being... Open your eyes, and that's Jonathan A. Goulet.
THIS MAN IS THE BEST MATH PROFESSOR I'VE HAD. If you just pay attention in class and do the practice test, then you can get an A. The practice test is basically the actual exam. My lectures were also recorded which was awesome. There are literally no tricks. Do yourself a favor and take math with him.
Love him, love him, love him! Take math with him, he makes it so easy! Just pay attention in class and sometimes the homework is long, but the practice exams are the same as the actual exam! MAKE SURE YOU HAVE GOULET!
Great Professor
I learned so much from him and his lectures. He did lots of examples so we were ready for the exams. Webworks were useful and we had unlimited attempts. The worst part was the written homeworks, which were long and had topics we hadn't learned. Still, these difficult problems never came up in the exams. He answered emails quickly and was helpful.
Very experienced professor. Not too harsh at all. Makes everything clear before tests, teaches the relevant material, and provides great examples. Easy to talk to before or after class. Not the most captivating lectures- he posts the notes after class which are all you need. Homework is helpful, grading is mostly reasonable. Would recommend.
Absolute best professor I have ever had. He cares so much about his students and really wants you to pass his class. He is also very good at going into detail in his lectures.
Took during Covid, his recorded lectures were FANTASTIC! Everything he talked about made so much sense, which is so difficult to do with Calc. The teacher can easily make or break someone's experience with math, and he's the one reason I like math enough to consider taking math beyond what I need for my major.
Very dry sense of humor, very much enjoyed. Class was hard, but Calc III always seems to be. I don't think he did anything wrong, Calc III is just always bad.
He is a great professor! Well-organized lectures, holds a lot of office hours every week, and cares about understanding the content. The class is homework-heavy so you'll want to start it before the day it's due. He assigns a lot of problems that are due once a week, so very manageable. Use his resources and you'll do fine. Highly recommend him!
Had him A22 and he made calc 3 much less of a behemoth. Don't get me wrong the class is hard but if you go to class and use his practice tests to study you will be fine. Discussion is alright, mostly just practice problems. Homework can be a pain however, but there are only 6 of them. You have to pass two out of the three exams to pass the class.
Prof. Goulet is great! While his lectures are a little boring he is very good at explaining difficult concepts. Definitely go to his office hours he is very helpful!
100% would recommend don't be afraid to reach out.
Had him for Calc 4, hes a nice guy, assigns a lot of work which is from the textbook. Lectures were not recorded, and not always accessible in person, he monitors his email like 24/7 and wants to help. Sometimes made me feel stupid for not knowing something. Id take him again, and would recommend him (except for the work & we had to write a paper)
Professor assigns excessive homework (up to 90/week), unresponsive to requests. Emphasizes theory over application in class. Paper quality subpar. 3 exams worth 50% grade. Neat but confusing notes. Avoid if preferring practical learning.
Lectures were in depth and helpful. Exams were similar to the practice exams posted on Canvas. This professor really wants everyone to succeed and was good at answering questions in class. Class examples were helpful and relevant to what was on exams.
His lectures were information heavy and he cared about the "why" behind the math we were doing, meaning I sometimes lost how to actually complete the problems we were working on. The first hw assignment was around 90 problems, but after that they were closer to 30 (thankfully).
Honestly the best math professor. Makes jokes, brings in props to help visualize concepts, explains and will re-explain as you need, great office hours, checks to see if everyone understands and is on the same page, will answer questions clearly. The homework is A LOT, but break it down like he intends you to, and it'll be much easier to manage.
Although the course is difficult and there is a lot of homework, the professor is very patient and teaches at a good speed. Would take again
