Wonderful man, wonderful professor.
It was a pretty good class, but he was kinda boring.
governale is so freakin easy it's unbelieveable. you don't even have to show up to his class, unless you want extra credit. scantron tests, one a week. study guides with nearly the exact questions that'll be on the test.
If you are looking for an easy class that doesn't require much work, take Governale. If you are looking for an interesting professor look elsewhere. He doesn't provide clear and concise answers to your individual questions.
VERY BORING TEACHER...be prepared to hear a lecture and take notes every day
Not as easy as others make it out to be. His humor is lame, he doesn't explain himself thoroughly. Tests are hard.
Governale, the great regurgitator. If you are in his class, bring coffee... it is extremely boring, and you will fall asleep... he has his ear pierced, and I think he believes that makes him hip... Decent course content, even though its boring
Mr. Governale is a great teacher. You will do very well in his class if you do the reading. I don't feel that he was boring at all.
I thought he was a great teacher. I had him winter03, and enjoyed him. You have to get used to his style, and make sure you do the work! otherwise, your test scores will suffer. You do learn a lot from him though! more than the others!!!
Easy class as long as you do the reading. Good teacher with easy going style. Would take another of his courses.
He knows what he's talking about and he's not tricky. Take notes, do the reading, and you'll pass even without perfect attendence.
he knows what hes doing and is great at his job. easy class, awesome teacher....what more could you want. he owns to the max
HIZOT
Mr Governale is extremly organized, presents his material well but you still need to study. I found his class enjoyable
If you follow syllabus "To The Letter" you will do very well. John is cool and very professional. My wife got an A w/o doing the paper I slacked and got a B w/o the essay.
Good professor. The telecourse was very clear and if you do the reading and meet the handout requirements, you'll do fine. All multiple choice tests, no essays except one extra credit essay of your choice.
read the chapters. you will not pass the tests if you don't read. his lectures are interesting, he finds interesting ways of putting his material together. very organized. learned a LOT. 2-3 hours a week in reading is really all that's needed. not much studying is necessary. follow his study guide.
Very nice instructor, lays out all material clearly, no tricks or surprises, and is very knowledgable.
Got a C. Loved the subject. Even though professional, he is very hard to understand. Class is very stressful! But if you have the time and the patients..and are interested in PSYC, take it
This teacher must was the worst he responds to the males in the class and the female students can fall off a log. He was not open for helping students and was crude when approached. Im shocked at the good reviews he has, did these people ever go to class???
Very Very Very boring!!! He is a very nice guy, but when it comes to teaching, it is completely text!! My advice... be extremely interested in the subject and be motivated befor taking his class!!!

I thought this was a good class, but the quizzes were difficult for me. You really have to make sure you know your stuff to get a decent grade. Nice enough man though.
I took this as a telecourse 5-6 yrs ago which made it more difficult since I was not getting lecture. He was nice though and I passed. I thought the test were a little hard but I was a brand new student too. I recommend this professor.
the best experience i have ever had learning at clark. i got 96% in summer quarter and wow. i learned a lot and since, changed my major. he's GREAT. to pass you have to go to class and read at least the summary of every chapter.
nice guy. don't take tis class if you are busy. lots of reading. But he is gfreat about only pointing you towards what he feels is important to know. Great teacher. very friendly.
he is a great teacher. you really have to be into the class to follow him b/c he moves fast. very very very nice man
PSYC 211 (Telecourse) Don't try to read both chapters the night before the test. Don't get behind in reading. ENJOY the class..you will learn alot. Read sample papers before you start the coursework As you read the book, take notes (note: page#)in order simplify writing your final paper. Loved the class and all of it's contents.
governale is a nice guy, who knows his stuff. this class is a time hog. if you want an "A" keep up with your reading and study for the weekly quizes. not an overly hard class, just painfully montonous and boring.
Governale is pretty cool. I like it when he makes the rat face. He's got a pretty unique teaching style. I enjoy his class.
he's very nice
very organized, nice guy, I recommend this class
Great instructor! His tests can be tricky, but if you do your reading you should do fine. I also noticed a lot of his quix questions came from the practice tests on the companion website for the text. As soon as Ipicked up on the my grade shot up, ended up with an A-. He is very quick about answering e-mail, and flexible if you talk to him ahead.
Gov. is among the best teachers I have taken at clark. Great teching style, easy to understand and makes most lecture interesting. His examples make even the most difficult concepts comprehendable. I got an A but spent a ton of time reading the book. You must be willing to study hard to recieve a good grade but this is such an interesting subject
His voice is very monotone, always made me sleepy lol. His lectures almost always didn't help with his quizzes, mid-term, or finals. He is a really nice guy and very understanding but unless you read that book hardcore you won't do well in the class.
Analyze this! It was extremely fun. Of course I had alot of interst in the subject matter. There is alot of reading. Reading covers the lecture. Lecture covers some of the test. All in all I think he is an excellent teacher
Teaches right from the book. Good teacher. Easy tests if you read the book.
of the psychology instructors he is the best at Clark, but do not think this class will be easy I found it very challenging. study well read the book.
Governale is knowledgeable about his subject. He does a very good job at relating the text to real life applications. 90% of his Psyc 101 class was test based. He gives out a sheet of study questions for each test. As long as you can handle the questions on the study guide, you will get an A.
General Psychology. This man deserves an award. Read the book and listen in class, you'll be fine.
Very interesting class. He is a great teacher. He always gives great examples. Great tests. He doesn't expect you to memorize everything, which is nice.
Monotone~ lectures are about as interesting as watching paint dry. Read text or you will be in a world of hurt.
This class was awesome! Especially if you have children or ill family members. His lectures are very interesting and he answers your questions. As long as you take good notes and study from the text, you should pass.
Probably one of the worst teachers I have ever had. He may know his stuff, but it wa incredibly hard to pay attention in the class because he is so monotone. Honestly, if he didn't ask daily questions, I would have skipped a ton of classes. My advice: read the book every free minute you have because that's what his tests are based off of. LAME.
He's a nice teacher, BUT lectures are very boring. Also, he lies about the study guides. You HAVE to know IN DEPTH every question on it. The tests suck too.
verrrrry hard but all in all its a good class. attendence is mandatory which sucks. know ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL the questions on the study guide. the test questions are straight from the book. read the book every free moment you have!!!!!!!
I think Governale is a great teacher. I had him for Psych 100 & 200. He doesn't expect you to memorize the material but he does want you to know it. The tests are multiple choice so the answer is in there somewhere. I thought the essays(psych100) and the term paper (psych200)were pretty easy. Governale is very nice and helpful.
He's the reason I became really interested in psychology. Great teacher!
great topics! I really got involved in his class :) way fun and interesting
I took his telecourse. I didn't love the class. His "study guides" were just the reviews copied out of the textbooks, which absolutely sucks. So apparrently you really need to know every little subject that is discussed in the chapter. I took 101 with lewin and his guide told you what specific info was necessary. This class was ok though.
Governale is a really good teacher. I think he grades well and if you show up to class and pay attention, you can pretty much pass the class. I enjoyed having him as a teacher.
He is a great teacher, very hard to fail this class unless you dont study. He tells u everything on the test, you have to find the info in the book. Great class with some funny stories
He's very monotone. Helpful and willing to work with "schedule conflicts" if you need. Took a telecourse so the text was pretty much my only resource/I can't comment on his lectures. I liked him and this class.
Great teacher. Very accessable and really cares. Not the most exciting guy, but he is one of the smartest. He has a good sense of humor, he should use it more. Use your study guide and read, read, read, than read the text some more.
Taking this telecourse. Governale is a very nice man, however, this class unless you read every freaking detail, and I mean everyone, is completely silly. He has study questions that rarely relate to any questions he asks on test. The text book highlights important facts, along with summary, and usually none of those are on the test either.
Test questions are hard. Questions on test are tricky. Non of the important info in the book was hardly ever tested on. Nice teacher but if you do the Telecourse class be ready to study your butt of for a barley passing grade.
Taught myself more than I learned from his lectures.
Honestly, it seems like most of the comments on here are over exaggerating. He is clear about the study guide, and using it every time before the test, I never missed more than 2 points. Attendance is mandatory, but he clarifies a lot of stuff during lecture that is confusing in the book,so that's helpful! overall, an amazing class!
Favorite teacher so far at Clark his class is super interesting and I thoroughly enjoy it. Yes some days it's hard to pay attention while others I find the subject very interesting. i love his teaching style and I think he has a great personality and sense of humor. The tests are hard and if if you don't study it shows.
I took the telecourse and it required just as much studying as my A&P class. Expect to read 60 pages of the text every week. Test questions are not on major topics in the text. Most test questions are very tricky. I'm a high A student in A&P and got a B in the class. I highly recommend not taking the telecourse if you can!
Study the learning objectives and you should be fine. He's a fair grader.
Nice guy. With such a large class, there were a few inane people that asked useless questions, and he often let them lead us down the garden path. Good sense of humor once he gets used to the class. Know your study guides, read the book, take good notes, and you will do fine.
Governale is my most favorite teacher at clark college! I loved his class so much I took 200 with him also. His teaching style is so easy to understand and his study guides are infallible. You cannot fail this class!
Governale is my favorite teacher by far. There are days when his letures are rather boring, but he really knows what he's talking about and makes the classes interesting. He gives a study guide for every test practically giving you the A. Take his class, you won't be sorry
Governale was an okay teacher to me. His lectures are kinda boring, but he does a great job of actually teaching the subject. Optional extra credit helps alot too.
I don't recommend the hybrid course. I studied harder for this class than any other, ever, and barely pulled a B-. The study guide and material was easy to understand, then his tests almosted seemed like a trick. The tests didnt match what you studied on the study guide. He worded the questions to where you questioned what you think is right.
Like some of the other students suggest, if you take the hybrid class be prepared to study your butt off...literally. You may get one sometimes two questions on the test from the study guide. Out of two chapters to read weekly, it is surprising the information he deems important. Good luck. Really nice smart teacher though.
Governale presented a relatable curriculum rife with examples from his own life. I would suggest that future students pay close attention to the textual materials in order to better grasp the concepts that he focuses on in class. Governale has a clear passion and understanding of the topic, which he thoughtfully imparts to his students.
He's a really funny and awesome teacher. He interesting and and is super clear on topics.
His lectures are very boring, but he grades fairly. He gives a quiz every week, so read the book. It's not an exciting class like I hoped it would be--very cut and dry. But it's a pretty easy A.
I did not like this teacher his tests were hard & he was not understanding with my situation. It was a lot of reading & felt like more than a 5cr class. I had to drop out half way through the quarter it was too much. I wouldn't recommend this class its all lecture/powerpoints & they were boring to watch. I took a lot of notes in class too!
I really enjoyed his class! One of my favorites so far. While he is very cut and dry about the material, he explains it well and gives simpler examples to things that he feels aren't stated well in the text. Tests are easy if you study the learning objectives. And he is funny! A lot of people didn't get his dry sense of humor though.
One of my favorite professors so far at Clark! Just do the study guide, answer the extra credit questions, and take notes and you will easily pass! The study guide sections are pretty much the tests. I would definitely recommend him!
Governale is the best psychology teacher I've ever had and could hope to have. He teaches in a lecture style, which I find unusually engaging and am able to learn a lot from. The tests are simple if you study, because the point is to know the material. Not too much textbook reading especially if you learn easily from lectures. Overall amazing class
Great teacher. If you plan on taking PSYC100 and are willing to show up everyday to Clark, this is the class for you. If you listen to the material and study it, you will get an A. Offers plenty of extra credit and opportunities to rise your grade. Attendance points are counted.
Good teacher
He was very clear on what you need to do to get an A. you have a test at the end of every chapter. you get 2 points everyday for attendance which makes a big difference at the end of the year. also you get bonus extraf credit questions every day. it was pretty boring but not horible. hes a good teacher
I took the hybrid version and did okay. I think that this professor could provide a bit more office time, but he does try to meet with you outside of class if you need to. If you take the hybrid version BE FOREWARNED that you MUST have the diligence and self-motivation to STUDY ON YOUR OWN, or you WILL fail. Read, study guide, test, 1 paper, & done
This teacher is really hard. I did the study guides, the practice tests, and the reading that was required and still only got a B-...He changes the wording from the practice guide/test to the point hat the question is no longer recognizable. The average grade in this class was a C-. The highest grade was an A- and there was only one. Stay AWAY!
This class is only difficult if you don't attend, don't read, and don't study. If you do all that you are bound to get good grades on his tests (which are weekly). Some lectures are more engaging than others, he answers questions thoroughly, and he has a subtle and nice sense of humor. I suggest you read ahead before lectures, it helps!
I took the hybrid class and regret it; Its like you don't even have a teacher for this class! You literally have a week to read AT LEAST 3-5 lonnnng chapters and then you just go in and take a 30 question test. If you can commit to studying on your own and reading that much then this class is for you. Don't reccomend though!
It was an average class, you have a test at the end of each chapter which is about every week or so. He is clear on what you need to do to get an A. there is a study guide for each test also. you do use the book. You get 2 points for attendance every day which makes a difference at the end of the quarter.
Professor Governale is an extremely intelligent man who is very observantly passionate about his area of study. Following the study guide for each test if crucial, as well as taking detailed notes from the text book, as well as the class lectures. His test follow the text book directly-he gives you everything you need to be prepared for the exams.
He's a great teacher. Answers everyone's questions. I did not appreciate the multiple choice tests that we took every week. You need to make sure that you go through every learning objective and know the material well.
Governale is a great teacher, his power points are very detailed, and boring. I wasn't that interested in coming to class, some days it would be interesting other days it wouldn't. You HAVE to get the textbook if you want a remote chance of passing. If you study hard you can get a good grade.
The class is entirely lecture, and his powerpoints are really boring. I would find myself counting down the minutes till class was over every day.
I took this class as a hybrid. It was entirely self-taught. We only showed up to class once a week to take a scantron test. These tests were very hard. I'm an all A's student and I couldn't barely do better than a B. He is a very nice teacher, not extremely helpful with telling you what you got wrong on the tests however.
I found this class to very interesting and governale is an awesome professor. If you study the objectives its fairly easy to get an A/B on the exams. attendance is mandatory if you want the points. overall easy class and super interesting. loved it.
Mr. Governale is an awesome teacher! He is super helpful and will work with you if you have issues. For lecture he uses personal experiences that really help you learn the material. A word of advice, READ YOUR BOOK. All tests are multiple choice and make a majority of your grade, as long as you show up and read you will get a good grade. LOVED HIM
I took his Psyc 200 Hybrid course. I won't lie, it wasn't easy. It is however doable. Read the book, pay attention to details. He likes statistics, and small details appear on the tests. ALso, he will give you 5 extra credit points for turning your term paper in early.
Very good teacher. He has everything mapped out from the very beginning. All you have to do is show up, listen, and do the objectives for every chapter and you will have no problem passing the tests. You don't have to actually read everything just where the answers for the objectives are. Showing up for this class is very important though!
Prof Governale is very knowledgeable and helpful when you ask. Taking the hybrid class was only hard because I had bad time management. I took him for PSYC 100 and enjoyed his class. Extra credit available and attendance not mandatory, but extra points at the end of the term if you show up.
Here is your typical academic. Close minded to ideas contradictory to his. He should not be basing his knowledge on second hand information, he needs to do some real world work. Questions everyone, especially this guy!
He's a good teacher. he's clear and has a really good time management. always comes to class prepared and is always in on time and we leave on time. if you read the chapters and come to class everyday, you should get an A or better. He's also really laid back and funny.
Highest grade in the class: B-
John was very knowledgeable about all aspects of Psychology. His class was very straight forward: Show up, and take notes off of his power points. There was the occasional video, and a few papers. None of the papers you do are longer than a page, which was nice. You get bonus points for showing up and or answering the daily questions.
John Governale is a great professor that is very straight forward. With study guides that prepare you perfectly for exams and to tricky questions, with a good work ethic and attentiveness you're sure to pass the class. He's also very understanding and helpful with questions and comments outside of the classroom. I'd take his course again!
Attendance is a must. Tests are all multiple choice and given weekly (25 questions). There were 2 essay, neither of which are allowed to be more than one page long. Extra credit is available but only up to 12 points. In my opinion, he was just a really boring guy and at times inappropriate. By far my least favorite class at Clark College.
nice guy, learns everyone's names from the start of the course and replies to emails quickly. Attendance doesn't really matter (other than the fact you get points for going) and the things he says in class don't really help for the tests. They're pretty hard but the papers (there aren't many) are easy. The subject is fun but the class is boring
He expects you to know every chapter inside and out. He doesn't use Canvas so the quizzes are taken at Clark, all of which are multiple choice, all of which are VERY tricky. You have to have top notch reading comprehension in order to get a B in this class. His study guides outline the whole book. Do not take this class, I am an A student, first B.
Psych 101 was a lot easier than 200. Regardless, both classes were tough when it came to tests. And the Psych 200 class was a hybrid, but nothing at all was online. You read the 2 chapters a week by yourself and the tests were tough. He is a good professor, just expects a lot. Would not recommend the hybrid class, the average in there is a C-.
The only reason people will find this course hard is if they do not read the chapters and do not go off the study guides he gives for each chapter. You MUST read for good test grades. Attendance is part of your grade. 12 points of extra credit available. Very, very possible to get an A.
He is a great teacher and provides you with everything possible to get an A. He does expect you to read the book thoroughly but if you do and go through his study guides you'll be fine on the tests. He gives extra credit as well so definitely show to class.
Governale was great at first. If you have any religious values though watch out. He bashed on things such as abstinence and believing in a higher power. His study guides weren't very clear and his lectures were dry and boring. I was so excited to take this class but it was ruined for me after the first few weeks of being with Governale.
Knows the subject matter very well. Always there to help if needed.
The people that complain that this professor is boring, and the same people that sit on their phones in class and don't give the subject a chance. He is very knowledgeable, and is clear on what is expected of you. As far as reading, all you really need to do is memorize the terms in the margin of your book.
I cannot stress enough how much reading, time, & effort you have to put into the hybrid class. Weekly tests are based on information from two chapters. You have to memorize roughly 60-70 pages each test. He likes specific details like statistics. If you study you can pass, but it is difficult. I am a 4.0 student and got my first B in this class.
Clear communication and very fair expectations. Lectures are decent, often interesting. He is mellow and understated, so at times you need to make yourself pay attention. Attendance and reading are extremely helpful to your grade. Really, if you get a bad grade here (like some other reviewers) you need to honestly examine your effort and habits.
Mr. Governale is a pretty easy going teacher in my opinion, you have a test once a week and if you follow the study guide he has given you it will be a breeze. You receive a half of a point for every day you are there, so skipping class will eventually add up..
I took psychology from fields before at Clark, I didn't do well so I took it over. So far governales teaching style is SO MUCH BETTER!! The information flows nicely together. The quizzes are 25 questions and you are given a study guide. All you have to do is read and you'll do fine. Best psych teacher at Clark by far. I totally recommend him!!!!!!!
Super nice and funny. Explained every single topic we covered in class. Cracked jokes nonstop and used examples from his life for all the topics. Basically no homework besides extra credit questions asked 3 times per quarter worth only 9 points total towards your grade. All multiple choice tests.
John Governale is one of my favorite teachers I have ever had. He has a clear understanding of Psychology and is an expert on teaching. His lectures are very helpful and although there were a lot of exams, if you asked him for help he is more than willing to do so. I would recommend him to anyone even if they don't have an interest in Psychology.
A test every week sometimes 1.5 weeks. Gives you all the study guides on first day of class Study guides are very helpful but take about 1.5-2 hours to complete so expect about 1.5-2 hours of hw every week miniumim. Then theres extra credit questions everyday if u get picked u get the points.
I loved this teacher and class! Lectures are interesting and he gives detailed study guides for every test. There is a lot of tests and reading but the tests are multiple choice and pretty easy if you study. He offers easy extra credit, there are a few assignments but they're very short and you get a good amount of time to do them.
This class had absolutely no lectures, and was entirely based off the book. I didn't feel like it was comprehensive enough for a level 200 class, but as an independent learner I managed it, and have been getting good grades. Don't take this class unless you are responsible enough to learn on your own and can force yourself to do the readings.
if you cant sit through lectures and learn well through that I wouldn't recommend this class. when taking notes relate it to your life experiences rather than the examples he gives you. a test every week or so and theyre not super difficult if you read the book. and occasional class work and videos to watch
My favorite professor so far. There are multiple choice tests about every week which include 25 questions and you get a notecard on everyone. Attendance does not count for your grade but I showed up everyday because I loved listening to his lectures. He is relatable and explains topics very well. 10/10 recommend to anyone interested in psychology.
Great professor, nice guy, easy grader. Theres lectures every day, weekly tests (you get a notecard for each one), and a few other fairly easy assignements . Pretty easy grader and is willing to help you understand. Very intelligent man, 10/10
Mr. Governale is such an amazing professor! He does lecture almost everyday, but it is always relevant and full of good examples. Quizzes happen about once a week (you can use a notecard for each), but you can skip class the day of and take it with the next quiz if you want to. He kind of reminds me of Bob Ross, but in teacher form.
John, was a good professor who never missed a day of school, very understanding, nice lectures.
I took the hybrid course. The instructor does not teach, you only show up to class to take a quick test. He allows one 3x5 index card of notes, some questions require you to memorize irrelevant facts and statistics that the ebook doesn't test you on. The only resource is the book, no study guides or lectures. The ebook has super easy quizzes.
A wonderful professor! Quite possibly the best I have had so far. He doesn't give easy A's, but what do you expect? Professors are suppose to challenge you, if you want an easy A or get mad just because you have to work hard, go back to high-school... Best of Luck!
great teacher, would love to have him again
Pretty easy class, just make sure to read and go over every detail before the tests. Always know the answers to the daily questions, they're easy extra credit. Awesome teacher and really knows his stuff. A little bland at times, but will always crack some sort of joke that gets people's attention.
I have taken John for both Phy101 and 200. He is an amazing teacher, but be prepared to read. Although the textbook he has chosen is well written and interesting, especially compared to the other textbooks I've seen other instructors using in the same class. You write two short essays but other than that reading is your only homework.
Professor Governale knows this subject very well and teaches it very good too.
Governale is a fantastic instructor! His lecture notes are very easy to understand, and most importantly, his study guides completely match his tests. There are many tests in his class, but if you study from the study guide you will be just fine. I enjoyed his class very much.
governale had a test every week, or less. The chapters seemed very rushed and every class was just a long lecture besides the occasional videos he showed us. It was actually hard to pay attention in class because how boring it was. Each test is based off a study guide online that was no help at all too. Overall wasn't my learning style and boring.
I really enjoyed lifespan psychology, but there was A TON of reading. I took the hybrid class during summer quarter and it was definitely a lot of work. There was a test every week on two chapters. We read an entire textbook during the quarter, so it just felt a little rushed.
has quite a few exams but if you study and keep up with the lectures in class with good notes, its not hard to get a good grade on his exams. He is super nice and understanding.
Governale was a great professor for my first term at Clark. He gives study guides for every test which pretty much has the answers on them and you get to use a note card. There were 9 tests total, the 9th one being the final. You are graded on attendance but it is only .5 points per day. It is an easy A but I slacked a bit and got a B
I liked Governale. I thought he was nice and he was very educated in the subject. I will say, this class was awfully boring for me. He teaches by using powerpoints and lecturing. The material was interesting but his teaching style wasn't my favorite. 25 point quizzes usually every week mostly over the textbook.
