best prof ever! learned so much in his class (entrepreneurship)

The lecture is boring sometimes but the books he assigned are great. He's really helpful if you go to his office hours. A lot of homework and be ready to spend 20+ HRS on the class project. I learned a lot about how to start a business. If you want to be an entrepreneur, this is a MUST TAKE class!

Everyone else who commented here is WRONG!! This is the best professor I have ever taken and made me follow my dreams of starting my own business. The person who left the comment about him having a big ego just doesn't understand his personality I guess because Mr. Greathouse is hilarious and humble. GREAT TEACHER & CLASS!!

Class is hard, yes, but the professor is one who has actually done the stuff he is teaching in the real world, unlike most of my other professors. The speakers are interesting, as are the readings, but you should go into this class knowing that you are going to spend a lot of time on it, but you'll learn so much about being in business. A lot of people don't like this class because they think business is intuitive and that everyone is going to give them hand outs through it all. Professor Greathouse does a great job of simulating the real world of business through a classroom, but for those without a sense of humor or taste for business, his classes are not for you.

Greathouse is the best professor I have had in 3 years. His classes are interesting and APPLICABLE. He doesn't use boring textbooks and the reading is super easy and practical. If you can't get a good grade in any of his classes then you're just lazy. Also he's super connected in SB and will even help you land a job/intern if you go about it right

The fact that more UCSB students don't realize that they have the opportunity to take a class from Professor G is mind boggling. He has an amazing business mind and is very helpful to students who take a real interest in the class. His classes are so unique due to his incredible resume and you will learn a lot and be challenged in the best way!

This is by far the most useful course I have taken as an undergraduate student. Greathouse shares his extensive experience and gives great insight into sales techniques. While his TAs are not particularly helpful, Greathouse himself is more than willing to help his students out and even helps his students find work. Cannot recommend him enough.

No BS - there wasn't any better, real-world context I received in college than from the speakers, stories, and project-based learning in those classes. If engaged, it's easy and rewarding! John is one of the best professors that I ever took at UCSB. He even took the time out of his day to mentor me for more than 30 minutes on my career objectives. Who does that? Professor Greathouse is one of the best professors, and people, on campus at UCSB. He helped me immensely before and after graduation and his classes are the only ones I draw from since leaving the University. John is for sure a great professor! This class is not easy and has a lot of work. However, you don't learn anything if there is no work right? Don't expect an easy A from this class. I took John's class in 2006. In his class, I worked on a market feasibility study of the company I've been running since my graduation in '07. I can honestly say that I would not be where I am today without John and this class. He is HELPFUL, approachable, direct and kind. I took his VERY first entrepreneurship course through the TMP program. It was full of great guest lecturers and practical course work. We're still running the company that we workshopped in this class!

He brings several speakers from his multiple connections in the entrepreneurial community of Santa Barbara and always starts his lectures by letting us know about job opportunities in the area. We had weekly quizzes and assignments to make sure we'd learned and applied the material.

John really makes an effort to give you the tools to succeed as an entrepreneur. I highly recommend you do all the readings and participate in class. The amount of effort you put in is what you will get out of this class so don't waste your time doing the minimal work.

Entrepreneurship class with John was really good. Even though it was a challenging and busy class, I really enjoyed it There were a lot of projects and assignments to do but they were all worth the time. John truly cares about his students and really thinks of ways he can personally help you in order to introduce you to the right people if he can.

This isn't your run of the mill class, Greathouse will teach you things you rarely get to learn in college, and more importantly they are things that will be extremely relevant to you when you enter the workforce. If you enjoy thinking outside of the box, collaborative effort, and learning how to advance your career, take his classes.

One of the few professors who prepares you for life after college. Starts almost every lecture with slides featuring internship opportunities or job opportunities for students, and prepares you for the workforce. I would recommend professor Greathouse and the TMP program to any UCSB student.

The best professor I have had at UCSB. Everything in the class is purposeful- you get something out of each class you attend, and assignments are meant to teach you valuable skills. There's no "busy work." Take notes, take advantage of all of the tips and tricks because they DO work and he does want you to succeed beyond the classroom.

This is a fun class. Do the weekly assignments; they push you out of your comfort zone for sure, but when you get into the habit of practicing the persuasion techniques, you'll be able to see what makes them so effective. Quizzes are straightforward and not meant to trick you (just like he says), so make sure you do the readings.

Each lecture features a guest speaker, and Greathouse does an amazing job of asking the right questions so that you as an audience member get the most of what they've learned in their careers and what advice they can give you. This class impacts you far beyond the grade you receive (straightforward final paper), so try to connect with the speakers!

I took TMP 111 with professor Greathouse and it made me interested in the TMP program. After a couple quarters taking TMP classes professor Greathouse helped me to get an internship in a company, while other professors didn't wanted to help me. Detail: TMP 111 is the only class that I took with him (there were around 110 students in that class).

Very credible venture capitalist who genuinely cares about his students. Every class he mentions his office hours and job/internship opportunities. A stand up guy who brings in former students to speak. These former students come back because they feel like that owe it to John Greathouse. I plan on doing the same.

Show him your projects, pitch decks, or just ideas, as he cares immensely for people with passion and initiative. He can be a great asset and will help wherever he can with obtaining in internships. graded by quizzes on random days each week either tuesday or thursday (40%), two easy worksheet assignments (10% each), group project (20%), final essay (20%). extra credit available for final essay and quizzes. i didnt personal enjoy the subject but its an easy A still bc of the e.c. the quizzes were tricky off readings.

I highly recommend John's classes. He is a great teacher and has amazing real-world experience. I appreciated the practicality of his classes compared to the purely theoretical information that I learned in my Econ courses. I have since founded the startup CareerUp and I can say from presonal experience that what I learned has been very valuable.

John really opened my eyes to the start-up world and gave me the skills/confidence to secure my own internship at a top start-up in SF. Professor Greathouse will seriously change your life, offering you incredible opportunities and internship experience. This class was probably the best preparation for the real world and I recommend it to anyone interested!

I took this class as a last minute elective and I am so glad I did. Greathouse is an amazing professor and his lectures display his passion and love for his students and material. Course content was 9 weekly quizzes based off readings/lecture and then a few other easy writing assignments. He also offers a ton of extra credit.

While the class is quite long, it is very informative. This is great for anyone who wants to expand their business knowledge and get the tmp certificate later. The prof gives out a lot of internship opportunities, but you have to be the one to put in the work to actually get them. Quizzes are kind of hard if you don't read, so def read!
