He's awesome! Really down to earth. Do your homework and take notes - ask questions if you don't get something, he's down to explain it for as long as it takes. And he's really cool about helping people outside of class if necessary. And he loves big gulps from 7-11
i took the guy last fall and I didn't turn in my assignments until the very last minute about! I still pass his class with a "C!" His tests are out off 100 and sometimes you could get higher than that! He gives you partial credit as well! He puts us in groups also! His a great guy... do everything he asks you to do and you'll pass!
He's a great teacher! He explains in detail ensuring everybody gets his lecture. Some students complained about how basic he explained, but I loved that about him! His quizes and tests always allow you to score more than 100 pts. Be on time, ask questions, and do homework and you'll do just fine! He's a little nerdy but very good professor.
I do not recommend this teacher for someone who does not do well in math. He teaches from the book and he teaches the material but he does not give examples to help apply them to the homework. Not the best teacher out there.
overall he is a good teacher. organized. quiz every thursday which is good cuz it keeps you up to date on how well your doing in the class.as long as you do your work and stay on top of homework its a easy class. if not... then good luck!
This is one of the best teachers ever!!!! He is a funny guy and is always willing to answer any questions you may have.
This is one of the coolest math teachers i've ever had. He says some random things that are hilarious. I showed up to class early and he'd be there so he got to know me a bit. I didnt do very well on the midterm but I assume i did well on the final because i passed his class with A! Just do the hw and be on time easy class!
Easy class. He teaches directly from the book. Tests are easy. Final was open book w/notes. Group assignments were assigned. Just do the work and you will get an A.
Great teacher; do the work, attend class and get an A
Math is my least favorite subject and I got a "B" in his class even when I got D's on all tests. The major thing is to do all your homework and show up to class. He even gives credit for your notes. He grades on a HUGE curve... so there is no way anyone could fail his class. He explains things very easily too.
he will work with anyone..you just have to be willing to learn. and dont be rude or else leave school...
This class was really boring but that is just because I hate math. If you make sure you do all the hw and do fairly well on the tests you should be ok. He gives a lot of quizzes and not enough time for each one. Make sure you do the extra credit also because I think thats what helped me. Would recommend him :)
The other students are giving high ratings because he is an easy grader that grades on a curve, which is ok. However, his lectures are hard to understand, and learn from. To really learn I read the book, and went to math lab. There are about 8 quizzes, a midterm, final and alot of homework. Only take Grenfell if you are self-taught.
This class was fairly easy. He didnt make hmwk mandatory for this class, but used some hmwk problems on tests and quizzes. You should attend every class! no matter how boring it is. He tends to try to hard to make the class enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this class!!! (AND READ THE BOOK TO MAKE YOUR OWN NOTES!)
I used te stress about math before taking his class. He really tries hard to make it enjoyable. He gives a lot of quizzes and a take home portion in the midterm which helps tremendously. Attend class and do your homework and you should be fine. He does want his students to succed. I would strongly recomend his class.
Willing to help you with any questions. Doesn't collect homework, although doing it helps!... I hated math before.. but he made it enjoyable and i actually learned a lot from his lectures.
He's one of my favorite professors at RCC. Teaches math in a way that anyone can understand and offers a lot of chances if you're not doing so well with the material. Probably the only math professor I'll ever recommend.
He is a very easy and great teacher and drops the lowest test score as well as the lowest midterm score. He will just double the better one. The class itself is boring but a definite A. I honestly think its too easy and not very realistic to how college should be so dont think its always gan be this easy. I highly recomend him.
Boring, but helpful if you go seek help, quizzes are difficult, more than half the class dropped if that says anything....
Took his precal class in which he didn't seem very prepared to teach. The book provided is horrible so buy the solutions manual or you will probably be lost. Quizzes are extremely difficult. Final is worth 30%. 2 midterms 20% each. Gives lots of extra credit. I had over a 100% by the time of the final. he gives points for just about anything Boring
Prof. Grenfell is a wonderful prof. He allows students to make up an mishaps they may have ie. a poor quiz score. He was a tremendous help throughout the semester and very approachable.
He is a good person, but as teacher he is horrible. No one could understand his lectures at all. It was almost like he was learning material at the same time we were and he is not confident in the answers he gives to people's questions or answering math problems. If you want to go far in math, understand it, and do well than do not take his class!
He will not make sense sometimes BUT!!! You can pass the class with a decent grade. If you 1)Do SOME homework(Try the problems)2)Do not leave anything blank on the test!!!! 3)Show up and nod your head/try to read the book and listen to see what he will put on the Test. Funny Guy! Not the most passionate math teacher but not the Worst... He's Ok.
He is an easy A if you do his homework, get enough attandence, and get average points in quizes and exams. It seems that he just writes the fonulas and definition on the board, so you have to learn things by yourself.
Oh Mr. Grenfell! How can I diss you when you gave me, yes, gave me a B! What he does is look at even problems on book. For the final he regurgitated previous exam questions. Not clear at all but easy and very approachable in his office hours. So, there's definately a + in taking him, an A+.
He is a great guy with a good sense of humor. He will definitely make you laugh. However, he can not teach calculus if his life depended on it! Apparently this was his 2nd time teaching 1B, but it seems as though he has never seen the material. If you want to learn something than don't take him. If your willing to pass with a C than take him!
He s a very sweet and funny guy indeed. But, nobody should let him teach upper level Math. Maybe he needs to review the material and not copy the book in class.
really this guy rocks he is so nice and tries to be funny which is actually funny. I learned more in this class then the one I previously took. No homework just quizzes which is good because I'm a good tester. He is overall a great teacher.
get 'em while he's hot 'cause the game may be up. He did get audited after all kiddies. Oh, we students know a pass when we see one, so, in light of that. Take him.
I finally understand algebra! He is a really good teacher. When he demonstrates a problem he shows you every step. His tests are multiple choice which is kinda scary but if you go to class and do the homework (not mandatory) you will do well. Take him!
He's really does know how to make you feel comfortable in class, but he does need to work on upper level math. He only used examples from the book, and he couldn't answer some of my questions. He always tries to help out during his office hours. He will be a good professor when he knows the material. Until then, he is not the best for the subject
Went all over the place during lecture. Jumps from one topic to another. Did improved later one when he started to prepare before class.
he was the best math teacher i ever took at rcc so far. he spoke clearly and lecture notes are helpful for the tests he gives out . i honestly recommend taking his class
I only got a C in this class, but considering how bad I generally am with math, I consider it better than an A! I failed this class twice prior to this, but Grenfell really helped me understand it all! Cant thank that dude enough.
Very Enthusiastic Math Teacher. Utalize his office hours if you don't understand, that's why he offers them, really nice man as well. I had to take this class twice and ended up with a C, very satisfied.
kind man. he goes for the easier questions in the book and avoids the harder ones that appear on the homework. The homework is submitted online. The homework is straight form the book, but when he teaches it a different way you have to end up learning both ways because of the homework. reccomended if you can teach yourself.
Mr. Grenfell is a really nice guy. He explains concepts really well and has a lot of tips on remembering things and avoiding common mistakes. He didn't assign a lot of homework. His tests usually contained "bonus" questions so even if you missed a couple of questions, you could still get an A. Be respectful and do your work and he's great.
I have to say the worst math teacher I ever had! That's pretty bad because I had subs for an entire class once who knew how to explain things better then him. Homework is all online using web assign which cost 75$ and a little buggy. He tries to avoid work and skips around as he teaches to avoid all "questions he does like".Ok if you want a D or W.
Great teacher and as a good sense of humor. As long as you pay attention and attend class passing should be easy
The worst math teacher I've ever had. Not only is he confused and flustered, usually late to class, but he didn't even cover everything we were tested over. Our class was given four syllabi throughout the course because he kept making mistakes and by the end of the class everyone was doing so poorly that he had to retroactively curve all our tests.
Grenfel is nice guy, but he does not know how to teach. Granted, I'm not a big math fan, but he's very monotone & hard to keep interest, by the end of the semester half the class dropped. He had to curve a few tests because the whole class was doing bad. Stay clear if you need to be taught math, take him if you're good at it or can teach yourself.
Basically you learn on your own but it makes sense this is college but it should be an easy A if you complete all the hw.
He's an inconsistent, habitually late professor. Assume that you will be self-studying and deriving no benefit whatsoever from his lecture. Assume that all homework you turn in will never be returned to you, until he starts throwing out gobs of paper mid-test. Don't take him if you actually want to learn anything.
Best teacher ever! If you failed one of his tests, he gives you a boost to get a better grade.
While he's not a bad guy I don't know why he's teaching. He is one of those teachers that stay glued to the book and pulls all his examples from it (and let me tell you not much) making his lectures next to useless. It seemed like he didn't care if we learned anything which is sad and can be discouraging to people, especially in lower level maths.
A teacher who already expects his students to understand what he is doing. All lecture include him writing on the whiteboard problems from the book, using his own methods to solve questions while skipping multiple steps. Try to avoid this class! If you take this class prepare to teach yourself from the book.
He teaches straight from the book in class. He gives alot of homework that isnt really worth it due to it being only 5% of your grade. He is an incredibly boring teacher. He also gives random quizzes that will make your grade fall if youre not ready for them. If you can teach yourself take him, if not avoid him.
Horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Horrible Teacher!! Teaches straight out of the book!! Do not take his class! Quiz on the first day of class!
This class is more for students who learn by teaching themselves. He is an okay teacher BUT even though the h.w and quiz scores aren't that many points you must do well on them or else you'll fail the class but I wouldn't suggest taking him!
He is a good professor. His lectures might seem boring, but he knows the material. It all depends how much effort the student is willing to put. I didn't do so well in his class, but it was my fault since I did not pay attention to the lectures. ANyone can pass his class if you come prepared to learn and take notes.
Mr. Grenfell is a really nice guy. Even when he asks a student to quiet down he does it politely. His best quality is his super logical and organized nature that makes it is easy to follow along and know what you are expected to learn. He is very smart, words his sentences precisely, and makes frequent use of domain-specific vocabulary. Take him!
He looks serious but he is a funny teacher. Attendance and participation also count. 100% attendance, no tardy, dedicated my time to get to know each problem. I am glad I took Mr. Grenfells class. If you really want to learn math, I recommend his class.
Great teacher the quiz on first day does not count for credit so don't worry great at teaching step by step
He's super clear when teaching, and uses easy to understand words. Pass the tests, and you will pass , I barely did homework or quizzes and still passed. Take him !
I took Professor Grenfell a while ago and just thought he deserved a good review. He is very polite. His teaching methods are very helpful. He is the definition of a good professor. Go to class, do your homework (for your own benefit), study for his tests and you're good. Simple as that! No tricks, no games, just a great learning experience :)
I enjoyed his class. He is funny and explains things well.
Professor Grenfell was the worst teacher I have ever had. Period. All he would do was work out the math problems from the book on the board while narrating. He did not answer questions. Also the test were ridiculously more complex than any of the math problems he would do during class or were on the homework.
HE WAS A GOOD TEACHER I JUST WISHED HE OFFERED MORE OFFICE HOURS. AND HE COMMUNICATED BETTER WITH THE CLASS. HE WAS NICE BUT AWKWARD BUT HE KNOWS HIS STUFF SO I WOULD TAKE ANOTHER CLASS WITH HIM AGAIN.
his class was hard aff no lie lol. I still passed with an A tho, idk how. His class starts to become way more harder towards the 5th week and his exams affect your grade sm. towards the end I didn't understand any of his lectures. What sucks about him is that he never gave us a problem to do by ourselves. didn't drop so i could see the choco papis
Professor grenfell is THE man . He curves exams, quizzes and homework. Will need to bring the book daily, hes very understanding and encouraging with course material. makes early morning classes fun, has a great sense of humor. Just wish he would teach beyond algebra. Responds to emails in a timely manner.
Professor Grenfell is nice, but often hard to reach. I found his lectures to be informative enough to grasp the information, but additional studying or tutoring outside of class will be necessary. Overall, I would recommend taking his class, he gives extra credit in tests and is easy to talk to if you need anything.
Regarding Math: I become virtually immobile at the thought of anything beyond rudimentary arithmetic. Professor Grenfell's exemplary teaching methods/homework, patience, and kindness have impacted my life tremendously & after a lifetime of fear I am NO LONGER afraid of Math. I would take ANY class Professor Grenfell taught. THANK YOU!
I had his class Fall 2020. He was a great professor and was respectful, caring, and made sure he answered questions. That was until he disappeared out of nowhere. No one knew what had happened. My class was left hanging for 3 weeks until he was replaced by another professor. If he had not left then I would have more opinions on him.
He curves/gives extra credit on every assignment and test. Read the textbook and watch his lectures, and I seriously don't think you could get less than an A. Lots of homework, but if you do the homework, you'll have up to 30 extra credit points from it. Prof. Grenfell is a really nice man, too. A good person.
I was never a big fan of math so I was iffy about taking math anyways. I took him over winter and it was an easy A!! His lectures matched up with the homework every time and never any surprises on his tests. Very easy to reach if theres any confusion you may have about anything. Homework is majority of the class, may seem like much but its not.
Very approachable when it comes to anything. His lectures are a little boring because he goes slow but they help a lot. Homework was all on connectmath with multiple attempts plus extra credit! You are given 2 attempts for each test and you can see what you got wrong on your first attempt. Overall a great guy with a lot of knowledge in stats.
Stats was never my favorite subject but the professor made it better for me. His lectures are pretty boring but the class is easy as long as you just take notes and do the assignments on connectmath. Very easy A and its hard to fail. Plus the professor is very nice and you can tell he knows his stuff.
There was defiantly homework assignments, but there is built in ec. Professor also uses connect math which allows for 2 attempts on all tests. Hint: ask for a second attempt on the final. He is super helpful. Only critique is he left for surgery for 6 weeks, and came back with a different and more difficult teaching style.
Professor Grenfell has made statistics a breeze. He is very organized and wants to help. If you're not available during his office hours, he will make sure that you find a time to meet. He is a bit lecture heavy and some of the material is tough to get through, but sometimes he will let class out early if you cover all the material for the day.
Mr. Grenfell is one of the best professors at RCC. I took his course in spring 2022 and had a wonderful time. Your grade is heavily based on test scores, with tests being 50% of your grade; however, every assignment has extra credit! (Ex. Homework is 11 questions but he only grades out of 10). Anyone worried about stats should take his course.
I was failing in the beginning because I hardly put effort into this class, but he makes it easier for students to catch up. All his HW assignments are available until the end of the semester with unlimited tries at problems. If you fail a test, no sweat because he allows retakes your correct answers, so you just do the answers you got wrong.
He did a good job explaining everything step-by-step and walking the class through problems on the homework as long as you paid attention. Couple weekly assignments on ConnectMath so they can take some time but it isn't too much if you understand it. Lets you have a second attempt on all the tests so they're not too stressful.
If you're nervous about stats TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! He's quirky but makes math easy to understand. You get to retake all tests - just redo the Qs you got wrong, and most assignments include extra credit. 2-3 HW assignments each week, 6? tests total. It's a hard class, but he makes it manageable and helps you out. Also, most math is done in excel.
I had anxiety upon taking this class. I was never good at math I was told Stats was a hard class to pass. Professor Grenfell was awesome! Not intimidating at all like most math professors. He truly cares and wants everyone to pass. HW was on Connect Math online, 2 attempts for Test & Final. Don't be lazy, do all work, and you will pass!
Professor Grenfell was not my cup of tea. He gives a lot of homework and requires a corequisite course registration with more homework assigned there. Not all math professors do that. He doesn't explain things very well and I found it difficult to understand concepts. Sometimes he rushed through topics because he was running out of time.
Funny guy, good teacher. Some times his methods are a little difficult to understand, BUT the book helps as well. All homework assignments are online with extra credit on each assignment and unlimited tries. If you do all of the homework, and do OKAY on the tests, you will pass. I enjoyed the online homework software vs traditional wats.
Prof Grenfell is super chill and can be funny. My only issue is that he doesn't upload assignments/tests into the grade book so you never know your grade & assigns a lot of HW. But, when it comes to tests, he lets you bring a cheat sheet. The reason I dropped the class was bc of my class load/work. Overall, good professor.
He was gone the first few weeks of class for me, but he's a good professor! Ur required to get the online textbook. HW given isn't technically due until the end of the semester. He does tend to rush things but you can go to his office hours for help. He also offers to see revisions on the quizzes and will give partial credit.
Class was pretty easy if you take detailed notes and follow along. Book was pretty affordable online. Each exam he drives the grading system so your C can potentially get you to a B depending on how everyone else graded. One page of notes was allowed during exams so write small. Each exam was no more then 10 questions but time consuming.
Super funny, also lenient. Helps with test corrections & other accomodations. Spends entire class time lecturing, if u cant sit still ull have a hard time. Stats overall is pretty hard but he does fairly well in trying to teach. Grades on curve if class isnt doing well. only assigns a few math problems per chapter section. Not assignment heavy.
I've been to most lectures and whether I showed up or not wouldn't make a difference, because he's not good at explaining material. If you want a computer to grade your tests, and homework that erases previous progress when you get a question wrong, then by all means take the course. Most of his class is failing with the majority getting
Great dude honestly, he will actually spend time to make sure you understand the material. We had to use ALEKS for our homework and tests, the modules online were alot but doable. He does test correlations if you do poorly on a test. Grades on curve so the grade you see online is less than what you actually have but is tough to calculate yourself.
went 2 most lectures, that didnt matter bc hes not good at explaining material thats alr hard to begin with.He uses a specific webs.that starts u over if u get 1 wrong, even he struggled with the website HE assigned us to use when he would go over practice probs in class, bcthe website isvery picky with ur answr.maybe a niceguy but not a goodprofessor
Honestly, a great guy through and through. Stats is a tough subject, but he does his best to ensure you have the resources to succeed. He gives extra credit, so you can get points back on the tests if you show you understand it. All assignments are done on Aleks, and you get an infinite amount of tries on them. 10/10 class and prof.
This professor has a lot of homework, which he covers some of in class, but you need to be a fast learner to succeed in this class. He does not slow down and expects you to be studying twice to three times the amount of time you spend in class, and it became very clear early on why. He covers multiple chapters per class. Tutoring is recommended.
He was nice, put care into pretty much every question students had. He is a bit unorganized with the note taking, but the online work is clear and at your own pace. The online work includes breakdowns of problems, very helpful. He does not fully teach how to incorporate excel (time saver) but it is always available with assignments and tests.
Grenfell was one of the sweetest professors that I had this semester! He is willing to help you, so if you need help please attend his office hours! This really helped me. Everything is done in aleks so you need to purchase the online code for the homework and exams. He takes attendance every time and it counts towards your participation grade.
