He is an incredible teacher. Science has always been tough but he makes it fun and easy to learn. You usually forget most of what you learn but I think he teaches in such a way that you will retain the knowledge.

a vewy good teacher..not that much interest in biology but he made it fun.. for tests you play a game and can get coupons for the test..what those do is you can get "freebies" or asks me" which means you can go up to him during a test and ask about a question and he will either tell its right/wrong

my favorite jjc teacher. take his class and you won't regret it for these reasons: he has an awesome mullet, he's funny, the class is easy, he's interested and helpful. he just rocks, that's it.

His biology class was one of my favorite classes I took at Juco. It was fun and easy, but I still learned a lot.

i LOVED his class...and since i don't like science that's saying something. I took it in summer school and STILL remember most of what was taught. He's a great teacher who knows what he's talking about and makes it easy to learn difficult things. best science teacher EVER.

Mr. Griffis loves biology and he teaches it so that you will love it to. An excellent professor.

He is an excellent professor. I am not a science student at all, but he made this class understandable, and so that the non-science students can be sucessful. I came out of his class with a whole new perspective of our environment, and no, he doesn't brain wash you, lol. If you need science, he's the guy to take.

Griffis goes down in history as one of my favorite teachers of all time. He makes his class fun and interesting and he makes learning the material work for any student, including non-biology type people. His sense of humor is freaking hilarious too. I wish I can take more of his classes! I like his hair too...it's like he doesn't brush it, haha.

Griffis is one of the best teachers I've had. His class was never boring, and he has some of the most interesting stories, and they actually pertain to what he is teaching. His sense of humor is great, the guy can get the entire class in a hysterical uproar while still maintaining the classes respect. He will help anyone with their HW problems.

Awesome teacher, VERY knowledgeable, GREAT at teaching, fair, you will always know exactly what to expect, never acted like he didn't like anybody in my class. Fast-paced summer class, but just show up , pay attention, and study what he tells you to.

I learned a lot from this instructor. He prepares his own handouts and outlines, they are fantastic and I referenced them throughout nursing school. John is very entertaining, you don't fall asleep in this class. Be prepared to learn and understand all the material though. Ask him about the deer project, great story

Can't go wrong with Griffis. He is everything you are looking for in an instructor with the added bonus of being a comic genius. Fair grades, doesn't choose favorites, explains clearly and in a mannor that will get you interested and involved. Can't possibly say enough good things about Griffis.

I found this class to be a lot more difficult than I thought it would be, but I am so glad I took it with Mr. Griffis! He made a very difficult class manageable by teaching it in a way that would keep you awake. He also does a nice review before tests so that you have an idea of what to expect. A very good instructor!

This guy knows his stuff. His class was awesome- I learned a lot and had fun. He was also very organized, which is nice. Probably the best thing about his class is that he really wanted his students to do well in his class and learn. Take his class if you can!!!

Mr. Griffis really wants you to do well, and understand the material. If you are having trouble he has no problem staying after to help you. There is a lot of homework which helps boost your grade in case you don't do well on a test. He's also got a great sense of humor. I wish he'd teach A&P or Micro too!

If anyone has a chance to take Mr. Griffis....DO IT!! I'm not going to say that it's an easy class, it definitely isn't,but he is so helpful and he explains everything so well. He has a great sense of humor too! By far the BEST teacher I've ever had in my life.

Great Teacher! I'm not one to get into biology but he makes the class very interesting and does anything to help his students. Makes alot of jokes related to the material that actually helps you remember stuff and is just an all around great teacher. Took Bio 104 with him and did great.Study off of the study guides for his tests and youll do great

I WAS DREADING THIS CLASS. BIO DEFINITELY ISN'T MY FAVORITE OR EASIEST CLASS, BUT HE MADE IT BETTER. YOU TAKE A LOT OF NOTES BUT IT'S BASICALLY WORD FOR WORD ON THE TESTS. THIS GUY MAKES IT SEEM LIKE HE HAS EXPERIENCED EVERYTHING. HE HAS SO MANY STORIES. BUT THEY'RE FUNNY. I WOULD SUGGEST TAKING HIM WHETHER YOU LIKE BIO OR NOT.

i went in thinking that i would struggle in this class as science is not my thing, but this prof prooved me wrong/i walked away with so much - Griffis opened up a new world for me/his teaching style encompasses all ranges of abilities/i already miss the class/on my list of best teachers ever/this class will change the way you think about the world.

He was an AWESOME teacher,I have never had a science teacher who taught like him before! He makes it so EVERYONE can understand things and as long as you study-the test answers are basically given to you-you WILL get an A. And trust me he is hilarious and talks about interesting topics! I would tell everyone to get him if they can!

Was the best teacher i have ever had since i have been at JJC. He is so funny. He gives you a packet of his lectures so studying is a breeze and if that wasnt enough he even gives you a packet of studyguides for the test and fills it out with you. The only way to fail this class is to not show up or sleep through the whole class. GREAT TEACHER

Biology isnt my best subject but professor Griffis made this fun and easy and basically its all easy cause he gives you his own notes, study guides that he fills in with you and its the thing as the quizzes and tests, and if you need help his there for you!!! Best science teacher I have ever had. You definitely need to pay attention but he makes the material understandable and fun. He has a good sense of humor and likes when students ask questions, even if for fun. He gives you study guides for every quiz and test on the first day.

I loved him-at first I wasn't too sure, but I have gotten an A on every test. If you do what's in the manual you will do amazing. At the back of the manual that he gives it has all of the study guides. He's funny, and nice. TAKE HIM!!- Def. Recommend! OH and he's funny =]

This has to be one of the best classes I have taken so far! Griffis is overwhelming but you will learn 7 he will challenge you too. I passed his class with an A but don't take it for granted! The class is really easy as long as you show up, you get 25 points a semester just to come. He gives you all the notes and study guides for exams and he always helps you. He also plays review games before every test and you get free questions or get to ask him what answer you think it is and he will tell you if it is right or not. Great teacher!

Griffis is a great teacher! I'm not majoring in biology or want to do anything in the medical field so i thought the class was going to be boring. But, it was the exact opposite! You do have to work hard, but there is never a dull moment in his class he tells you SO many stories let me tell you this guys lived quite an interesting life! haha.

He is such a great teacher. Very smart, funny and can get his ideas across very well. I was actually disappointed when I couldn't give up summer time to take another class with him. That's how great he makes his classes. Definitely take him!!

Griffis is a great teacher. He does talk alot, but it makes class more interesting and brings the subject into the real world. Most tests come right from his lectures which follow along with the notes(super easy fill-ins). If you get a chance take him, at least it won't be boring.

This guy loves what he does, and it shows. He finds a way of making tough concepts understandable and interesting. He writes fun little comments on graded homework and tests. I was only in his class for a 6 week class, and I honestly wish it was longer! Even though 4 hours a day is long to sit throught lectures, I still enjoyed his class! :)

Professor Griffis is caring, energetic, and enthusiastic about the curriculum. Although he shares some controversial opinions, he makes a difficult subject fairly easy yet interesting. Had I not experienced severe personal problems, I would have received a "B" as my final grade.

I took his Bio 104 class and loved his teaching style so much I took another one of his classes. He covers a lot of material but turns everything into a story and gives lamen terms as much as possible. Deff makes bio much easier to learn. Only wish he taught anatomy so I could take him again!

He sub'd for my Bio teacher for two classes and he was a blast. He was very energetic, funny, and helpful. Wish I'd had him the whole semester.

AWESOME TEACHER! Interesting stories, words everything in ways all can understand. Don't take the class for granted when first walking in, keep up with your work so you do well on the tests!! This guy is the man!! He has a story to go with about everything. He knows a LOT of stuff outside of Biology. It was a 4 hour class, and I stayed awake for the entire time. He gives you very detailed study guides. He tells you what to study and how many questions are on each topic. He does the labs WITH us! TAKE HIM!! HE IS AWESOME!

Firm AND Fair. Mr. Griffis definitely keeps things interesting. He gives you the time you need and answers any questions you may have. I highly recommend him as long as you are ready to do the work needed.

By far the smartest person I ever seen! I would love to just sit into his classes and listen to him talk about crazy stuff he has done! He knows his stuff through and through. I took him over the summer, and it was extremely hard, but well worth the experience. Just an extremely smart guy.

Loved this class! Mr. Griffis is gifted at explaining difficult concepts in a manner which can be easily understood. If you are a dedicated student you will do very well. Mr Griffis makes it very clear what is expected. He is also very humorous and not dull at all. Homework deadlines are generous and he grades work extremely quickly.

Mr Griffis really knows his stuff, presents it in a cool fun way, has awesome stories, the ball toss game was cool too. Review you lab manual - you'll be fine. Choose you lab table wisely, there is some group lab work and a group paper. I unfortunately sat next to a girl who never shut up! If you put the work in and want to learn you'll do great.

I didn't even think I liked biology. He made the class interesting and fun. Best teacher I have ever had! Would take him again and again! Show up, participate, do the work and study and you will do good. He always has stories to help you remember difficult concepts! Lots of laughing, you will not be bored!

I really like Mr. Griffis. He's knowledgeable and entertaining. Goes over the test material beforehand. A very fair grader and won't take off if he can tell you know what you're doing but made a minor error. You should have the textbook: if not you won't know what he's going over in class. Could only fail if you don't try! Lots of work but FUN.

Great teacher. Interesting stories and connections. He specifically tries to appeal to those of us going into healthcare. He's way more lenient on grading than he really should be. If you listen in class and make an effort, you'll be fine. The tests are definitely tipped in your favor (mostly MC, with answers narrowing down to 2 a lot of the time)

Professor Griffis is great! He is great at explaining, and makes hard concepts easy. His notes are very helpful, and I will use them for future classes, since they are weell set up. You will do well in his class if you study and do the homework. He does not try to trick you in any way.

He is an amazing teacher because he is very clear and concise about all of his lessons and the information he is going over. As long as you take notes which means just right down whats on the power points and the board nothing crazy, you will pass with no problem.

He is a very good teacher and he helped out a lot with labs and giving good study tools for tests. he tells you exactly what to expect on tests and how he grades things. he get off topic sometimes but he is really funny and i recommend him.

I took him over the summer. He is very strict about attendance, if you don't have a legitimate reason WITH proof you will get on his bad side, only negative thing I can say. He is clear about what is on the tests. His lectures are interesting. I got As on all the tests, but studied hard. The final is a departmental test however so it's tougher.

Griffis is one funny guy who knows his stuff, full of hilarious stories from his experiences that tie into his lectures (you'll seriously crack up). Pay attention in class & do all the work the best you can, otherwise you'll struggle as the class progresses. It's a tough class, but he's very reasonable with grading & offers other resources to help.

Prof. Griffis is an awesome teacher! although he does tell al lot of stories, he connects them with the material and it really helps you understand what he is teaching you. he gives awesome note packets and an even better study guide for the final exam and all his tests. i would certainly take him again.

Labs are graded harshly Major group lab assignment can be turned in and reviewed prior to due date; Prof gives helpful feedback to correct and get an A. Don't expect to get out early EVER! Lectures or does labs the WHOLE class.

I really like Professor Griffis. Yes, lectures are long but it's a 2.5 hr. class! He is very helpful during lab, really knows his stuff, and I personally enjoyed his stories. He tells you what to expect on the test and all the information will have been covered. If you study, there is no reason not to do well.

Griffis is absolutely hilarious and offers to help when you are struggling. Not too many homework assignments. Tests are long and difficult, but he reviews for them the day before. Attendance is mandatory, but he doesn't mind if you have to miss a day or two. I would take him again in a heartbeat. Don't need your book if you study your notes.

One of the best professors at JJC. The lectures are long but if you pay attention and study the notes, you'll be fine. He tells you what will be on exams which makes the tests less nerve-wrecking. Funny, gets off track but very interesting topics which i enjoyed very much. took in summer so fast pace but he went over what to study which made the tests easy to study for. study his notes and power points and you will be good. very fast in putting grades in canvas which is a big plus. Professor Griffis is great he always is looking to help you out in anyway he can. His lectures are quite long and that often causes rushed labs but overall a really great teacher and I would take him again.

For non-science majors, take this class with Griffis. His notes are EXACTLY what will be on the tests. There are a lot of tests, but there are straight-forward and he is very clear. Group dissection isn't THAT bad, he's easy w/ points. Just attend class and follow the notes and you should be fine. He offers lots of help, EC, and extra test points.

Professor Griffis is EXCELLENT! If you need to take BIO 151, definitely TAKE HIM! We take a total of 8 tests & the final exam the whole semester & it truly helps bc the tests aren't worth as much points so it really helps your grade! He gives study guides & is crystal clear of what to expect on exams. Reviews for exams day before! I recommend him!

BEST BIO TEACHER EVER. I loved having a class with this man. He really knew how to keep the lectures interesting when I had a 2 hour lecture with him. Show up to class, participate, take good notes, and study for exam days and you will be fine. He tells you what will be directly tested on your notes. I highly recommend him, you won't be sorry!

TAKE HIM--BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. He is very interesting and he tells stories that help you remember the text. There is a lot of labs and homework but it will help your grade because the exams are sort of difficult. He tells you what exactly what will be on the exam. Would take him again.

He was a great teacher. There was a test about every other week and a lab almost everyday. Whenever I was confused he was always willing to help and didnt make me feel dumb. As long as you study and do all of the work you should be fine!

One of the best professors I've ever had at JJC. He's very smart, funny and gives lots of extra credit opportunities. Rarely used the book because all of the test questions are in his note packets which are very concise and useful. Labs felt a little rushed at times, but they weren't too bad. Going into the class it seems like a lot to grasp but he prepares you with literally everything you need to succeed. He's a great teacher! The best Biological cource I've taken! It's a fun class, he cracks jokes here and there and that makes the time go by fast! It's a sience class so it's a bit hard but not as hard as any other BIO! He explains things in an easy way and will answer any questions! He also gives extra credit on tests if you show up for the games!

Very great teacher and he knows his stuff and will let you know what to study on for each test. He will engage with all students during lab to make sure each student understands what they are doing (it made it very easy to pass lab practicals). Answers all questions and will put things into layman terms for students! Pay attention and go to class!

He gives you good outline lecture notes. He is helpful and gives good feedback, you can email him or ask in person before something is due and he will help. He likes to tell stories from his life a lot too and he is funny. **I took this class my first semester out of high school and didn't try as hard as I should have so received a C grade

Professor griffis is very clear on what he wants on tests. Before every exam he will go over the study guide and explain what will be on the test. He grades a little harsh. His lectures are long but he's a funny guy and makes them interesting. He will definitely go off topic during notes and talk about random stories in his life.

This class was awesome and fun because Professor Griffis is a great teacher. His lectures are long but he makes the subject relatable and interesting. His lectures and powerpoints are all you will need to pass the exams. He gives great feedback and is always willing to help. I'm not a bio major and this class was great because of him.

Great professor I passed wit a B and I did horrible on the exams but everything else I aced (im a bad test taker) . Would definetly take him again

Amazing professor! Lectures can be a bit long but he makes them interesting and throws in a few stories that has everyone laughing. He uses note packets and will tell you everything that will be on the test. He gives a lot of extra credit also, so if you really take advantage of it, you could really end with a high grade.

You must attend class for participation points. There are a lot of tests in this class too but none of them are super difficult. My only issue was taking a 2.5 hour class for "labs" but barely doing any labs. The lectures are long and boring. He's a good teacher thought and provides help when needed

He is a great professor. He makes a very long class that is considered boring by many quite fun with his stories and jokes. He provides note packets and goes through them thoroughly but at a good pace. He outlines exactly what is on the test before you take it, and I mean question by question. He is overall one of the best teachers Ive ever had.

Prof. Griffis gives great lectures & is quite funny at times. he gives you hw to help you remember whats on the test & hes very fair when grading. He makes it clear in his syllabus he does not want you texting during class so if you are hooked on your phone dont take him. if you can put your phone away for two hours hes an amazing professor!

Has an amazing sense of humor and is clear with the material he teaches. Completely understood material and any grade on test we because of my pack of knowledge not his teaching abilities. Went on hikes and even into the campus lake to look at lake creatures. Games in class for answers to test when you take them.

Professor Griffis is one of the best teachers I have had so far. He is clear about what is expected and gives extensive study guides that outline exactly what will be on the tests. You do need to go to class in order to pass. He has an excellent sense of humor and makes long lectures seem shorter than they are. Definitely recommend his classes!

HE IS THE BEST! HE is an amazing professor! Take his class if you get the chance. I learned so much in his class and his stories are fun to listen to. He has a talent to make time past. He is an incredible biology professor!

Love this guy! Super funny and passionate. I had him for bio 151 and I had no trouble with exams or homework. He enjoys what he does and makes sure you enjoy it, too. Lots of exams, but it's better because if we had less & larger ones, it'd be very, very difficult.

Griffis is one of those teachers whose name you just remember. He is incredibly funny, but also knows his stuff and will also throw in little interesting bits of info during the lecture. That along with the humor makes his lectures easy to survive, and I had 3 hour 15 minute lectures with him. He also gives plenty of extra credit.

Biology is an OK subject, but he made it really entertaining. The class focuses more on lectures than lab. Take GOOD notes and study, so getting an A will be no problem. He literally tells you what is on the test after each note packet is complete. I work and go to school. This worked for me.

His real-world observations make the topics understandable, and the long lectures go by fast with his humor. He's always willing to help. Very clear expectations on labs and projects. Before every test, the class plays a review game for extra credit. I'm not a Biology major, but I still think his class was extremely fascinating and fun!

Professor Griffis is the best science teacher I've ever had! I've been afraid of science courses since high school, but he truly helped me understand biology. His notes are very clear, and the tests are pretty word-for-word, and when there is a question that's obvious, he makes the wrong answers very obvious.

Mr Griffis was great! His lectures were long at time but they are available outside of class. He assigns chapters in the textbook to read but I rarely used it. He has a lot of humor he throws in and makes what you learn easy to remember.

Mr. Griffis was an amazing teacher. I had him for a 6 week summer class! If I could take all of his classes I would, he made learning super easy. He is very lecture heavy but gives breaks. A HUGE PLUS is he gives out lecture notes and all you have to do is fill in blanks. Use your notes to study for test!

Best teacher for this course by far. His lecutes are basically the test itself. He gives you ALL the tools to pass with an A. He is extremely helpful in Labs and makes sure that you leave his class knowing exactly what to do on homework assignments and tells you exactly what to study for his tests. Super laid back, hilarious, and genuinely cares!!!

Was a great teacher. He use to do some conservation work in college and talks about growing up on the farm. He uses his life experience as comparisons and was really easy to understand. Didnt do much review before tests, so be prepared!

I took this as a six week summer course, so it was a little more challenging. He keeps the lectures interesting! I was never good at Biology but this class definitely an easy A if you do the work. He reviews for every test and has fill-in notes for lectures. Labs are easy and there is one group lab report, DO THE ROUGH DRAFT!! Otherwise, he's great

Professor Griffis is such an amazing guy, hes so funny. He really wants to see all his students succeed, hes always accessible and willing to help. If you have the option to take him I highly recommend it, science has always been my worst subject and he made it so easy to understand.

Mr. Griffis is awesome. He gives review sessions prior to his tests and it really helps. He is lecture heavy, but explains things thoroughly. His stories are funny. I really like him and would definitely take him again!

Professor Griffis is very helpful and understanding! Lectures have a ton of information in them, but he tells personal stories through out so they don't get too boring. WATCH THE LECTURES and follow along with the notes or you will fail the class. Especially watch and go through his reviews for tests, those were SUPER helpful. Overall great teacher

Loved having Professor Griffis, just an overall fantastic teacher. His lectures are very long and have a lot of information in them, but they are easy to follow and he keeps them interesting with telling personal stories. Wish I could've met him in person. Would 100% recommend to take any of his classes.

Hes a great teacher! He made this class as easy as it could be for 16 weeks of biology condensed into 6 during the summer. He is a little lecture heavy but always has great stories and honestly, it was a lot of information to cram into the summer semester. I would take him again!

Professor Griffis makes this class enjoyable with his engaging lectures and helpful review sessions. The workload is manageable, and using resources like unstuck study alongside the free textbook can really aid in study prep.

Professor Griffas clearly stated his expectations for the students taking his class. If you simply did the work and filled in the blanks for the packets given out during class, then you would have a study guide that you could use to pass the class with flying colors. Lots of extra credit opportunities and was an overall funny teacher.

He tends to lecture a lot, causing wandering minds, and he regains attention with a joke. But he sometimes answers inappropriately to clarification questions with "were you there when I just explained it?" Watching recorded lectures and completing extra credit can help you earn an 80% in his class. The syllabus is clear on grading & turn-in dates.
