He is the best geography teacher they have. Bless his heart.
He's rude and he puts you down and makes you feel stupid.
He is a good teacher over all. makes sure that you know what you are doing!
Good proffessor. Teaches concepts more than names and dates
Class is easy but he makes you feel like and idiot and then thinks he's the man!
Excellent prof. Highly recommended. A little moody sometimes. Knows his stuff.
If you write down what he writes on the board, and take some notes, your good to go
i dont know why anyone should have anything bad to say about him,,sure he is odd and tells some weird stories, but the class is soooo easy, you just have to go...one easy midterm, one paper, and one final. very easy CI class!!!!
good professor, all you have to do is show up, listen, and you will do good in this class
Very good prof. Take notes on the concepts he puts on the board. Study them and you WILL get an "A".
Is halarious, makes you want to go to class. I can honestly say he made waking up worth doing. Geography is not supposed to be fun but he makes it so. His teaching style is simply to follow and you will learn alot while having a blast. It's true!
Second class with him. He's great, among my favorite profs. He knows a lot about the world (esp. Africa) and teaches it well. I recommend him for any class!
Knows his stuff. He is very clear and intresting. I look forward to taking other classes that he teaches.
He is HILARIOUS... and so much fun. But if he brings in the curry - don't take a whif of the pickle stuff... you'll want to die. :0) Just take good notes and you'll be on your way
Excellent Prof!!! Actually teaches you the material in an interesting fashion but doesn't pound dates and facts down your throat. He has an excellent teaching style...a lot of professor could learn from him! TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!
Dr. Grolle is great. I forget that I am in a class he is SOOOOO interesting. He really makes Geography a great class!
very cool guy! been everywhere in the world..lot's of cool stories. trust me, you'll like this class, but he puts a very dark view on life. kind of depressing at times, but it's all true. take the class
Dr. Grolle is one of the best prof's I've ever had! He makes things interesting cuz he's been to the places we study. He is a fair teacher - tests are right from the review and notes. I'd definitely take him again. Avoid Sunderman if you can get him!
Makes Geography interesting. Three tests, the third is the final, not cumulative, 2 1-pg. papers on an article and quizzes that count for next to nothing. He seems a little unapprochable though, like you're bothering him. Seems to favor guys more too.
An amazing person. In class, he is interesting, clear, knowledgable and I learned while I never felt I was "in class." Relevent questions get wonderful explanations. One on one however, he seems a little uncomfortable, dont understnad why. Grea
Very interesting teacher. Has lots of real world experience that he brings into class. Gives handouts of what he will cover. Tests based almost exclusively on lectures. Two easy papers based on articles-your choice.
Make sure to go to class....got all A's but didn't go to class that much and ended up with a C+.
Grolle was interesting, extremely thorough, and had much experience to illustrate his lectures. Take notes, come to class, and listen; you'll get an A or B for sure. Also, his slide shows are interesting too.
Great Professor. He was part of the Peace Corps so he has been to Africa and India and actually knows first hand about a lot of the places he teaches about. Really interesting, you will like his lectures even if you don't like Geography. Easy class, make sure you go over study guides.
He's a great teacher. He really knows his stuff and his lectures are not very boring at all. He brings in slides from where he visited and watches movies. I really enjoyed the class
Great Prof! Take him any chance you get. Traveled everywhere and makes class fun. Get him for the three hour course.
Take it,it's not hard. But the dude is not the most socially grounded person. His personality made me not like the class. He very easily annoyed. Don’t ask for override, don’t let your phone ring-attendance is taken 2 times a class. Midterm 25% final 25% 7 pg paper 25%attendence 25%is how he grades
He is so interesting because he has been all over the world. It was a easy class if you show up, take notes, and do the study guide before exams. I learned so much and would highly recommend this class!
Easy class - at times seems very uncomforable - I agree that he is easily annoyed / aggravated - Unapproachable
Very interesting professor to listen to. He goes over almost exactly what will be on the exam.
Show up to class and you can have an A. He knows what he is talking about from experience. Kinda funny. I've never wanted to fall asleep in the class.
Good class. Fulfilled CI requirement and was not too painfull. Professor has been all over the world. Teaches from experience. Very interesting. Exams are easy. I studied for about 20 minutes and got 103% on my mid-term!
Grolle speaks from experience--this is nice
Nice class and very interesting.
This guy has the gift of being able to talk for three hours and yet not be really boring! Kind of eccentric and creepy, but a good teacher overall
I personally found this cass very hard. I would study for 10-20 hours for each test (no joke) and still get a C . Paper is easy - tests I found hard :( He will answer questions for you, but I still found the course challenging.
Class was somewhat interesting yet painful. His personal experience in foreign countries was cool, but he stretches class out as long as he possibly can. Tests were somewhat unfair, half the things on his study guides were impossible to find in the book. He also has a major staring problem.
Good professor, study the sheets he gives you. Ask questions and think outside the box, showing interest and answering questions will help you stand out in his class. Personal experience with Africa... ask him about the palm trees with alcohol.
Somewhat interesting, old school. Be prepared to take notes. I never broke the book open. Give study guides the first day of class, be sure you are taking notes on those items and you will do fine!
He was a great teacher who spoke from experience. He seemed to really enjoy teaching. He was approachable and polite. Though some of the material was boring, he kept your attention and was easy to listen to. I would take him again.
He is one of the best teachers I have had at SVSU so far. He is so interesting to listen to and his tests are closely related tot he notes. Great professor.
AWESOME! The class was so interesting and I learned a lot! He has a great, vibrant personality, and so class will never be boring. He teaches only the most interesting of topics (current and historical) going on in the world. Such a great class, I almost wish I had to take another Geog or History class. Grolle is awesome! Take him if you can!
Dr. Grolle is by far the best professor I have ever had! His personal experience combined with his professional expertise make this class one you don't want to miss!
Professor Grolle is the man! He's a really good professor and he's really funny. I actually enjoyed this class and he was really easy to understand. He is good at explaining all the material and nothing is confusing. Not many assignments in his class and his essay questions on the exams are predictable so they're not hard. He's the best!
Funny guy, tells a lot of good stories. I showed up everyday, took notes and still did bad on all of the tests, he gave out study guides but they did not follow the test. Tests are hard! If you do all your in class work and show up everyday your grade will go up one whole letter. That's how i survived.
Grolle is the best professor at SVSU. His class doesnt have a lot of assignments, and the test are straight from the questions off the study guide. All you really do is take notes everyday in class, have two 2 page papers and 4 tests, Take Grolle and you wont regret it.
Super easy class!!! Don't by the book-tests come straight from the lectures and he gives a study guide. Attendence is mandatory and the papers are really easy. He's a good professor with great stories, but there are no powerpoints, just him talking-which can get boring. Overall a great class and I would reccomend him to anyone!!!
Great Professor!!!! Listen in class (not hard as he is very interesting and good sense of humor). He is interested in your ideas and input. Know the study guides he gives you and you will do great. One of the best profs I have ever had!
Review his study guides throughly and exams will be easy. He has a lot of real world experience and it shows in his lectures, which were often anything but boring. Attendance is very important to him, so remember this if you want an A. Agreed that he does get irritated with students easily at times, but I would highly recommend taking him.
He definitely knows his stuff...has a lot of real world experience which is interesting to learn about during the lectures. I enjoyed having him as a professor and I would probably take him again if I had to because he is not a hard professor.
Good professor who really knows his stuff. Can be very easily annoyed. Papers are very easy and tests aren't too bad if you really look over the sutdy guides he gives you. Don't buy the book, test come straight from notes and study guides.
Excellent Professor that has a lot of real world experience which is interesting and adds to the lectures. Review the study guides and exams will be easy. The book is nice but not needed if you attend class because test come from study guides. I enjoyed having him as a professor and will take him again if I get a chance.
Prof. Grolle is very intelligent. He has a lot of real world experience to add to his lectures. His lectures are very interesting and the tests aren't very hard as long as you study. Very nice and approachable guy with any questions.
Grolle is a very good professor. He has a lot of real world experience that he brings to lecture. Book use is minimal. He gives you a study guide for all the exams. The papers are easy. But dont get on his bad side because you will forever stay on it. He wont put up with nonsense in his class.
Good all around professor, but when I had him he seemed to have something against Arabs and Muslims (except African ones). At one point, he even asked if there were any Muslims in the class before making a comment. This attitude may be par for the course at SVSU, but in this case it was less subtle than usual.
doesnt make the average class very interesting, but once in a while he will get really excited and tell an interesting story. if you are not interesting in geography as your major, i wouldnt recommend him. lots of notes and also gives a study guide for tests. exam is not cumulative which is a huge plus! but the tests are a little challenging.
If you go to class, take good notes on the provided paper, and do the 2 short written assignments, then you are good. Easy exams, study guide provided. Interesting course, professor has travel stories. Would take any Geography class with him. Warning, last exam in 201 is not the easiest of the bunch. Oh, and no map quizzes! Taught like History.
great professor! I had no interest in geography before this class, but i enjoyed coming to class and hearing his lectures. He told many stories from his life that were fun and made the class more interesting. participation is encouraged!! you barely use the textbook. definitely take this professor's class!
This class was extremely boring, the lectures tended to get off topic as he would tell the story of the day. Tests are easy, but if he is the best professor in the Geography department, I'm not impressed.
He was a very fun teacher. He told interesting and some funny stories. I liked him as a teacher alot. I enjoyed going to class because he told good stories. Tests were fairly easy and he gave a study guide.
Very easy teacher. I never used the book and everything you have on the exam is given to you in his lecture. He gives out a big outline you fill out as you go. Just pay attention and you should do fine.
Well again not much has changed since I took him the last time, everything is still easy, his lectures are a JOKE, I didn't hardly learn anything but somehow I'm passing the class with ease.
This class was easy, two short writing assignmets and 3 exams, which he gives study guides for and reviews for it right before the test. He also hands out two "quizes" which if you sign your name you automatically get the points. Never used the book, only thing, he takes attendence twice throughout class. Overall a good proffesor!
Grolle is a great professor and very passionate about his subject. Lectures were always interesting and packed with personal stories. Writing assignments and tests corresponded well to what was taught and were very easy! Provides outlines and study guides that are very helpful and is always willing to help. Highly recommend!
Mr. Grolle is a very cool dude. He knows his stuff. There is a lot of information, but his lectures are interesting and he uses personal stories which makes it interesting. Theres only two short papers and two exams. Showing up to class is a must. He gives participation points for coming. I would recommend taking this class.
Mr. Grolle's lectures are interesting but he does talk right up until the last minute and sometimes goes over. His class is easy, two article reviews and three exams. Take VERY detailed notes because that is all the test consists of! The study guide does not cover everything. He seems unapproachable, but is actually a very nice guy.
Don't take him. He is a very boring teacher. I had a 3 hour class and I could never sit through them. He can be rude. His class is not that hard but if you cannot sit there a just listen to a prof talk, then I would recommend to not take him.
Professor Grolle is not as bad as his ratings are. I thought this class was going to be a breeze since it doesn't have a rep like Bio or Chem, but it is honestly just as difficult. Take fall back classes, like theater, with this. One big paper, a mid term, and final. The class isn't terrible, but it's not the easiest class out.
If you show up to class this class will be very easy. A couple of exams and two writing assignments and boom you are done. His stories are quite interesting as well.
I was actually really interested in professor Grolle's lectures. He lived in Africa for a while and is well-traveled so he has some amazing stories. He has a great grasp on world politics and dynamics. I never got bored during his lectures. Take notes!
Beware of taking a 3 hour class here. The lectures are LONG and can be boring. There is no way to sugar coat that, except that some of the material is a little more interesting than other parts. Show up, take good notes, study hard for the tests, and you will get an A. And Dear God, whatever you do, DO NOT let him catch you on your phone in class!
I loved this class. I actually learned more from the lectures than the textbook. Mr. Grolle is very animated which made the material entertaining. He definitely wants you to succeed and always encourages you to ask questions if needed.
Professor Grolle was great! His lectures are interesting and he keeps the class engaged. Pay attention to his lectures because I learned more from that than the book. He is very animated and can tell that he loves what he does. I would take him again.
Class is pretty boring. You get points for attendance. 3 tests, 2 really short papers. Goes off on tangents A LOT!! Gives you a study guide and beginning of the semester, I completely ignored it and just wrote down every thing he says. His tangents will be on the tests!!
Dr. Grolles lectures were very interesting and he knew what he was talking about. He has traveled to many places and tells about his experiences and shows pictures. The content is not very difficult but some questions on his exams are over things barely mentioned in class. There are only 2 writing assignments, which are easy As, and three exams.
John has traveled a lot and knows his stuff. He teaches through personal stories so it's really interesting. Attendance is required. Lectures are long but not boring. Tests are easy as long as you listen to the lecture and take notes. Two papers but he's a really easy grader. Great teacher and easy class overall.
Very clear when explaining. Listen in class and you'll get an A on every exam.
Dont be on your phone, you will regret it. He is not a great person and very rude. I went in asking for help on exams and study guides and he threw a paper at me and told me to get out of his office and he didnt have time for me. ( Never once did something to get on his bad side) be ready to take notes. & Exams are hard if you do not study.
Very entertaining and engaging lecture. I loved his class even though it was a long one. I honestly miss having his class and would take it again. He goes over a lot of personal experiences which help keep the class interesting.
He scared away about five students after his first class, by reading the syllabus alone. He is very strict when it comes to rules (don't even think about having your phone anywhere near you, talking to anyone, and he refers to leaving to use the restroom as disrespectful). There aren't many grades, exams aren't impossible, he's just not pleasant.
Professor Grolle is very old school, considers things like phones, eating in class, and simply going to restroom "admonitions". For an hour class these things would be fine, but not for a 3 hour class. Goes off on tangents frequently, and you never really know what to expect. Overall I have learned a lot, but the information is often stale.
Very good professor. I learned so much from him. This class is very leacture heavy but he uses his real life experiences to tell stories and it make sure it so easy to learn and he makes it enjoyable. I would definetly recommend.
Grades are 25% participation, 1 project 25%, 1 midterm exam 25%, and one final exam 25%. So very few things being graded. Lectures go over what is needed but no slides or anything to stress key points. Activities/packets and study guides provided by him. DO NOT have phones out in class or leave in the middle, he will call you out.
The class is all lecture, but he's memorable and makes sure to stress and repeat important points in several different ways. He pauses to make sure everyone is following and points out things you should put in your notes. He's great about answering questions - ask them! His tests are clear-cut and over what he's talked about - no book necessary.
His class is not bad. Just a little stressful. If you dont talk or butt heads with him youre fine. He is strict on using the bathroom, eating, and phones. Avoid those things and go to class and youll be fine.
AMAZING! His lectures are very entertaining and I was never bored when I was in class. Barely any homework because most of your grade is based of off a midterm, final exam, and ONE paper. As long as you study his study guides and go to class you should do great in this class.
GEO201 is very lecture heavy but there's only three exams (non-accumulative) and two short papers. He gives you a handout with all the key topics his lectures will include and study guides before exams. The exams are more based on his lectures than the textbook. If you show up, pay attention, and take good notes, you will do well.
Dr. Grolle is a really cool dude who likes to share stories about his adventures. Everything on the exam he talks about in lectures and on a master handout. However DO NOT have your phone out in class. He demands your respect.
Very strict with phones or leaving class; he will scream(!) if you do either. The only reason I didn't like the class was because it was 3 hours and boring; its not actually about geography and map quizzes like you'd think. Theres 3 tests, 2 papers, and attendance points. All you do is take notes, exams are important part so study.
He made geography interesting by putting his personal experiences into his lectures and even showing pictures of his experiences. If you are a student who plays on your phone or leaves class a lot I would not recommend he is very strict on those things, he will call you out. If you show him respect he will do the same. Ask for help if you need it.
