I'm not sorry! I took John's class and got an A!! I also learned a lot! John is a fun and thoughtful teacher. I highly recommend him. If you are a flake, you may not like his attendence rules.

Pretty easy class. John is a hard-core republican so don't talk politics with him. Show up, do the work (it's pretty easy) and give a speech here and there. I do feel much more comfortable giving a speech after his course.

Mr. Hannigan is a good guy. All you have to do is show up for class, and do your speeches. Hannigan really isn't kidding when he refers to the class as being easy. Avoid political talk, unless you can defend yourself with clarity and reason!

This teacher is kinda weird. He can be funny and then he can just say something really rude and ****.For the most part he knows what he is doing and is overall good teacher I hear that Fujishin is better but Hannigan is good. If you come visit him during his office hours, he seriously very weird.

I loved John's debate class. he makes it fun and challenging.The poster below said that "what you say affects your grade." That person did not learn much because they contradict theselves.He got an A on everything but a B for being late.Sounds like a personal problem not teacher a Hannigan bias.

Easy going great teaching style

Some studnets posting here are BIGOTS. Judging people based on their religion is bigotry & hate. A teacher's view of the world does not matter unless they propound that view frequently to a captive audience(class). Mr.H teachers on two campuses but will take time to answer questions during office hours.

Easy going teacher who makes class enjoyable and interesting. I learned a lot and feel much less fearful and more confident than when I started. Kind of tight on attendance but show up and do the work and it’s a breeze.

Very helpful teacher. If you don't understand something he will make sure you do. I passed the class with a B. NICE GUY!!

John is fun teacher. He is patient with those who are really scared. I'm not sure what others mean by military, but he is very clear on what his guidlines are. If you follow them, you will be better speaker and get an easay A. I know I am.

I’ve had John for Argumentation and small group. He’s great. Fun, really easy, and can tell a good story. But if you are a person that runs late. Beware. He takes roll that the start of every class.

John is a tough teacher. He's good but hard. And I definitely don't want to marry someone like this! WAY too opinionated! You must attend every class meeting. Speeches are difficult but do-able. Will improve your public speaking, if not organization of thoughts. Sucky reading material. Stressload is HIGH. Don't be offended by him either; pompous.

He will teach you how to debate! If you are just trying to fill a requirement don't bother. The work load is not heavy and also enjoyable. If you can follow simple instructions you will have no trouble. Attendance and punctuality are key do a good grade. Overall, he is a great teacher and a great person.

John means well and he's really enthusiastic about Communications. He's really anal about everything, so if you can handle that, then you're pretty much good to go. He preaches sometimes about random things in life, so I guess just bare with him. His midterm was strange, but he grades fairly and kind of easily. Overall, he's pretty good.

john is a great guy, i've had him for a few classes. i don't understand how people say he's an unfair grader. in both of his classes the midterm and final are practically handed to you the first day of class. great guy, totally changed my goals in school. because of him i'm a much more confident person. thanks john!!!!

John is a very energetic and wonderful human being. He loves to teach, and you can tell by the way he is always so cheery. He does demand that you show up everyday on time, but you are all adults so you should be able to handle that. I received a perfect score on every presentation and I didn't even need to take the final. I recommend him strongly.

He's pretty cool. I wish talked more about relativism because that nonsense just needs to be beaten out of people heads before they start debating. If you take his class, make sure you review the stock issues at the end of your debate and tell people "I WON THIS DEBATE because..." get it? Good.

I agree with all the above statements. If you just stick to stock issues, you're golden and the class is super easy. I also enjoyed it when I thought I wouldn't. He's very helpful too and is open to talking about pretty much anything. Highly recommended.

i took his class last year.hes awesome. im messed up in all my speaches and passed with a B. the only thing I recomend is Dont Be Late! He takes it personal. and takes points off.

Most of the people who fail Hannigan's class are morons. I've seen the most timid, inward people pass with flying colors while the "hot-shot" students fail because they were lazy and careless. Also, when you disagree with John on morals or anything he will actually expect you to BACK UP YOUR OPINIONS!!! WHAT???? Take his class. He's very cool.

Good class. He gives you all the possible questions for the midterm and final so just study those. Always gets off track in class but is funny and interesting. would reccomend

John is definitely a great instructor...I agree that if you disagree with certain issues and morals, he does expect you to back up your opinions with reasons...he's a pretty easy grader as well as long as you do your assignments. I took him in Argument and Debate and got an A in the class.

This guy is awesome! I absolutely LOVED his class - by far the most entertaining class I've ever taken. He has such a gift of making you feel welcome in class. Definitely do not miss any classes. John makes public speaking look like a piece of cake! DO WELL ALL THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER. Keep consistent with an A and you won't have to take the final!

before taking his class I hated public speaking. He made me feel so comfortable up in font of the class. Hannigan is among the best professors at West Valley. He is all about business. You put in effort and he will reward you. Very nice guy, patriotic, down-to-earth. Very intelligent professor who knows the ropes in the realworld. Professional and enthusiastic everyday for class. Great Style, A+.

Good guy, very strict on attendance. He's not a very hard grader if you do what he says. He's clear about what he expects you to do, and if you do it his class is a breeze. I was scared to death of taking a speaking class, but I ended with a strong A and didn't even have to take the final. Good teacher, I'd recommend him to anyone.

This class was very interesting. It has helped me to finish the last year @ WV and then trasfer over to SJSU. I am still using his outline structure forms along with transitions. Works GREAT! VERY STRICT on ATTENDANCE AND GRADING, but turn your work in on time and come to class! I was a few points away from an A and never missed class n' got a B! =

John is WONDERFUL!! I dreaded writing speeches but every morning I was so excited to walk into his class! He is very conservative which was wonderful, if you bring up a controversial topic make sure you can back up your opinions and facts, he doesn't stand for fake BS and will slam you! It was great!!

I took Hannigan last year and received a A. Fun and nice. He's a good teacher, I learned alot about on public speaking, and communications. He knows his stuff. He's very strict on Attendance if your late he takes it personal and detached points. If you do the work and do well on speeches you will received a good grade. He grades fair, and helpful

John is extremely friendly, and hates Global Warming issues. But if you take his class you will hear it. lol He's funny and delightful and it's a fairly easy class as long as you go every time.:) Take John he is a very great teacher.

John's an okay guy, I had him for Comm 1 this semester and people are right in that sometimes he substitutes loudness for correctness but all in all I had a lot of fun and it was a great class, my class had a lot of chemistry and that made it all the better. If you're reading this John, take it easy on Global Warming haha...

This man is the reason I'm majoring in Comm when I transfer. John made Public Speaking cake, and practically gave away points. He's nice if you're nice back to him. Just be polite and interested. Volunteer in-class for help on speech days. Make sure your topics for speeches are stuff you enjoy, and you'll do fine. :D

The class wasn't boring, I'll give it that. Honestly, I had a problem with how political John made this class. I feel he used it as a sounding board for his conservative views. It got really ridiculous a few times. I would be all for it if it had something to do with teaching us the art of communication, but at times he was just simply spouting off

The only thing I didn't like was that he was very pedantic about grading speech outlines. I mean really, it should be more a guideline than actual rules. Watch out for the outlines, read the examples and checklists for sure. Otherwise, great class, easy, fun and John is way cool. Global warming is real.

Evn tho I hate public speaking this was still a fun class. Do the work, show up, pay attn. ( he'll tell u exactly what's xpected) & u'll pass. He's a bit meticulous, but not obsessively so. This class is fun, interactive, and extremely useful. Hannigan can be a bit anal, but at least he cares!If you show up every day and turn your work in on time you're fine. I LOVED this class! Dr. John is a GREAT teacher. Fun, organized and very clear regarding all that's expected in class. For those who are terrified of public speaking, he has a great way of making you feel relaxed and he will ease you into the process gradually. I highly recommend this class!

Well John is an all around nice guy. Some people have issues with him but i did not. He does make things a little more difficult than it has to be; perhaps because he knows the class is easy. But reguardless he is pretty cool.

One of my favorite teachers at WV. I walked into this course thinking it was a waste of time, and now Im minoring in communications! Hannigan is inspiring, and even if you dont care about the class, its not hard to get an A. Take him.

Dr.John is the coolest! he is extremely helpful and has a great sense of humor. I have never met anyone with such strong opinions and views, but it was interesting for me to hear his thoughts. He never tried to force anything on anyone.

I hate public speaking and I knew I would have a hard time in that class. As long as you show up to each class and follow the instructions you should earn a passing grade. John was very helpful and always had time for questions. He made the class so fun that each day that I went I was ready to listen what else he has to say.

hands down my fave teacher last sem. to get an A you just have to follow his instructions (which should be a given) He offers extra credit only if you come to every class and on time (which you will cause he makes class one you look forward to) He is SUPER helpful if you have ?s, also you don't have to take the final if you have an A in the class!

Hannigan is on my top two list of favorite teachers. He had me actually looking forward to my first speech! Never saw that coming!TAKE HIM. hes awesome.

He's a pretty good teacher, however, the class structure pretty much sucks. The exams are based solely on the book, and he is an outline nazi! There's only 3 speeches, and the speech points aren't as hard to get as the outline points are. Also, if you don't believe in global warming, he's the teacher for you!

Dr. Hannigan is a great instructor. He's helpful, pretty funny, and very clear in his expectations. This was a subject I find less than fun, but he made it enjoyable. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Hannigan. Plus he's ex Air Force like me, so he gets points for that. :-)

Even though I took this in the summer and it was only a 4 week class, I still really enjoyed this class. Yes, Hannigan can be hard on his outlines, but it's so simple to pass his class with an "A" if you just do the work and show up to class! Imagine that! (: 3/4 of my class all got A's! Hannigan is a very straightforward teacher that really doesn't ask too much of you. As long as you keep up with the schedule he gives you at the start of the semester, you will be fine in his class. Doctor Hannigan is an excellent instructor, and even though he is incredibly picky about outline structures, it isn't hard to meet his standards. He does a great job of encouraging students, as well as creating an atmosphere that is beneficial to public speaking. Just make sure to do the three major speeches, and be at class on time.

Best professor I have had so far. He could not be more clear of his expectations of you. It is not hard to get an A as long as your fallow what he tells you. Hannigan is an awsome teacher.

Really entertaining teacher. The course is really more about how well you follow directions. You don't need to be the best public speaker, just need to know how to follow directions and you'll get a good grade. Strict grading on the outlines and you need to be there everyday for participation.

Clearly one of my favorite instructors!!! However, his exams are hard, making it imperative that you read your textbooks or study in groups. His personality and method of teaching keeps you interested in the class. Overall, it was an AWESOME semester and a GREAT CLASS. I definitely learned a lot of USEFUL information.

LOVE! I took him over the summer for comm001, and let me tell you I was NOT looking forward to public speaking. But he made everyone feel so comfortable and he's an amazing teacher. Really easy too! Just do your outlines and don't be late !

The only thing that gets me about this guy is that he is strict with attendance and writing outlines. He can keep your interest in class but he's nitt picky about some things. Other than that you'll either LOVE or HATE the class, it's kind of a gamble =/

Comm4 not so fun. 2 enormous projects- HOURS of outside class work coordinating schedules was a pain. MUST know how to film and edit a video. Exams brought my grade down to a B. Some say his lectures are sermons and too opinionated- but entertaining. He's good for COMM1.

Mr. H is pretty awesome, I took him a few semesters ago and he's the definition of what a teacher should be. He's fair, helpful and fun. I think that a teacher shouldn't let you walk over them for a good grade, he genuinely cares for his students and their success.

Hannigan is one of the best teachers. If I could take every class with him I would. People who are lazy and don't do their work don't bother taking the class, you ruin Hannigan's and every other student's time. Took John during the last summer semester. I absolutely loved him. The class wasn't hard if you did your speech and outline on time. We had to read a textbook for the midterm and final, which weren't hard at all if you did the reading. Entertaining teacher, I actually wanted to go to class. That's 9:20 during the summer Sotheby's saying something. Anal about attendance, but that's about it. If you have an A pre-final you don't have to take it. 20/24 people didn't have to take the final.

I really liked Dr. Hannigan. He is funny and interesting. This class is not difficult as long as you go to every class. I do think I got more comfortable speaking in front of a class over the semester. I didn't find him insulting at all. He is a great person and the class is truly worth taking.

Hannigan is the reason I became a communications major. Before his classes, (public speaking and small group discussion) I had zero interest and was dreading giving speeches. He taught me to confidently speak in front of othets and loves what he does. I'd definitely recommended taking his class if you have the opportunity!

Great Professor!Sure his class may seem tough because he takes points every time you're tardy and/or late, but you're never supposed to be to begin with. His points of view, personally aren't that radical. His exams aren't that difficult, the speeches are doable, almost no complaints from my end. Great Professor!

Love love love! This class was amazing I absolutely hated public speaking and by the end I was so comfortable and am going to take more communication classes. TAKE THIS CLASS! He is so great and absolutely hilarious! Word of advice suck it up and go to class everyday and on time, its really not a big deal. Do your outline EXACTLY like he says.

Anyone that says anything negative about Hannigan is obviously crazy. True, the assignments are tedious, but he provides any help that is needed. I took John over summer.I was so nervous about public speaking but John is very good at what he does. 3 main speechs, 1 MT, 1 final(if you get a certain amount of pts, you can pass on the final and get an A in class)I got an A and no final. If you TRY, and do EXACTLY what he says, youll get an A , only about 10 ppl ended up taking the final.

Very enthusiastic and lively, you will never fall asleep in his class. His theatrical teaching methods keep you on your toes waiting for the tenor of the lecture. This class will definitely force you out of your comfort zone in such a positive and uplifting way.

You can get an easy grade if you follow strict directions, show up on time, and are OPEN MINDED! Class is absolutely mandatory along with reading the textbook. He's strict but that because he treats us like adults we are. “You have to be willing to learn!" Merry Christmas!

Do not take this class! Way better teachers offered and way easier! This course is ridiculous and takes the fun out of PS. Critical on details, HUGE work load, hard tests, and you have to go to every single class. Why do this to yourself? Other comm teachers don't expect utter perfection out of you. I'm a A student and struggled.

Well, this wasn't an easy class however as long as you do your best, show up to every class on time and do all assignments you will be fine.He does go to great lengths to let you know exactly what is expected of you and he keeps his word. I walked out of this class with an A. I learned so much, the class was very helpful! He was a great teacher and inspiring up until the last day of class. I left disappointed and my perception of him changed, he segregated the students that had the "magic number" and those who didn't and has us stare at each other...super awkward. Don't miss class!!

An AMAZING man. Very personable and polite, very respectful of needs and capabilities. Funny. Not a push over (which is good) I believe that his class should be a pre-requisite for all freshman!! It is a great ice breaker and gets you out of your box. As a veteran with PTSD i really appreciated this fact. Also he is a Veteran as well. best class!!!

This class should be a prerequisite for graduation, like a freshman foundation class for college! It really helps out a lot in understanding how to really listen to others and become more open-minded. His lectures aren't the monotonous type that most students fear. The class is relatively easy as long as you just SHOW UP! I'd recommend him any day!

Dr. Hannigan is a very intelligent man and caries a lot of passion with what he teaches. There are no speeches in this interpersonal class, but you are required to film a group project breaking social normality in public. a few projects that don't exceed four page essays and multiple choice exams. Excellent class!

Dr. Hannigan is an excellent instructor. He maintains structure, provides support, and expects his students to do their part in the education process. I learned more in this class than in my 40 plus years of working. This is not a course for you if you want to glide through your education. You are expected to take responsibility.

I took his class during the summer and let me tell you it was'nt easy but worth it. the work load moved at a fast paste which is way better then having this class for a full semester. He was helpful and clear in what he asked for. His grading is a little hard but at the end he will correct your mistakes and really help you out. end i received a B!

Excellent teacher, incredible man. A lot of people hate his guts. But this is a college course, and not an easy one. If you are up to the challenge, you will learn a lot from this man. He didn't just teach me to give speeches, he challenged me to be a better person, equipped me to be a more capable scholar, and inspired me to be all I can be.

Mr. Hannibal has very carefully planned every aspect of his lengthy syllabus to lead you to an A. IF you just do what he asks, you'll get an A. The class seems hard because it requires that you do things in a specific way, which can be frustrating but is preparing you for greater challenges. Everyone should take this class. Best teacher ever.

I'm very shy person, but taking this class was a life changing experience for me. For the first time, I got feedback on how I looked outgoing, and energetic on my speech. Those were kind of characteristics I dreamed to have being so shy from childhood.. I'm keeping my work from this class for rest of my life. Dr Hannigan is understanding person.

Dr. Hannigan is a GREAT teacher. I took him for Public Speaking(summer) and Interpersonal Communication(Spring). Both classes have made me grow as a person and am more confident. I love going to class.

Very helpful teacher, and very knowledgeable. His class does require a little work and practice but as long as you listen to what he says, he tells you how to pass his class, all you have to do is go out and do it. Very fun class I enjoyed going to class everyday, always started my day out with a laugh.

John is great. He cares about the subject and cares that his students learn the material. If you follow his advice and attend class, you will be able to pass the course no problem. He has a tendency to over-explain, however, he is making sure you clearly understand what is expected.

I got the more out of this class than any other I've taken at WVC. It was pretty challenging, but having the confidence to speak publicly now is completely worth it. I was terrified of public speaking, and now I'm really great at it. He is strict with assignments and attendance, but if you work hard you'll get more out of it than just an A.

This class isn't hard, it's a choice. If you put in the work you will easily get an A or a B, but you HAVE to work for it. This class literally changed my life and perspective, it gave me a newfound confidence that I have never experienced before. This is a professor you will love or hate. But I loved him.

People are hard on Hannigan for Comm 1, but I think he was great for Comm 8. You can tell that he is truly passionate about what he is teaching and it's easy to respect that. He likes to encourage "awkwardness," but it helps you grow as a communicator in the end. Stickler about attendance and cell phones, but you'll manage. Would recommend!

Dr. John was an awesome teacher. I only had him for three weeks but I wish I had him for a whole semester because he made coming to class so enjoyable. His class is hard, but if you put in a good amount of effort it is more than possible to get an A. I know Dr. John reads these so HI. but he was an awesome teacher and helped me to speak better.

If you want to take Communications with an awesome teacher that will actually make you learn something, Dr. Hannigan is your guy. He is very clear on what he wants, and if you think you'll get by with doing your own thing .. think again. It's easy to get an A as long as you try. He's a really funny guy and makes each class go by really quickly.

This class is not just a comm 01 class. This Professor prepares you for a successful path towards getting your degree. This class is not hard, its a matter out choice. Do exactly what he says. Attention to detail will take you a long way! His requirements for formatting are valuable skills for the rest of your academic career!

Take this class as soon as you can. It will prepare you to work at a level needed for all your other classes AND a lifetime of presentations, even if you're anxious. Don't be late and don't use your cell phone at all, or prepare to sing in front of the class. Don't have a chip on your shoulder, it's not personal. Best class I've ever taken. EVER.

Hannigan stresses the full sentence outline and APA format throughout the entire course. It seemed like it would be tough to do and very time consuming, but ended up being a life changer. The outlines actually help you to! I feared public speaking going into the semester and left feeling comfortable speaking in front of others

Amazing Teacher! Before I started the class last semester, I was kind of scared because of the comments from other students. But thankfully I had an amazing class. Dr. Hannigan is the best teacher West Valley has! He is well read and eager to discuss hot topics before or after class. Come prepared to have a good time, he wants you to pass.

This dude. If you gave him some narcotics he wouldn't take it and still seem bonkers. The most heated guy to ever speak of conspiracies to his students. Do not underestimate this man's power he is the head of his department and even has a fricken PhD in whatever he calls it. Big heart, weird man, 1510 rating, take his class. Pray before you enter.

This review is kind of late since I took his hybrid class in the summer, but Dr. John is one of the best professors out there. The reason he's said to be tough is because he requires APA format with scholarly research and will make you work hard for your grade, but he's willing to help you and his instructions couldn't be any clearer.

John was literally the most entertaining teacher I've ever had! He's a tough grader but really helps you understand what you need to work on. You need to make sure you do all the work in order to pass the class. Contribute to in class lectures! He'll love you.

Communication with others from personal to professional is essential and never taught well. This class gives you an advantage over others, and the gift of perpetuating strong personal relationships. FEW classes offer a skill that will transfer to any major, but this one does - there should be a wait-list. A great teacher who is like a best friend.

Do the work, don't slack, follow direction, and you'll pass. He won't spoon feed you, but he's there for you if you try to think through it. Hannigan is a brutally honest, charming, and funny professor. The subject matter is inspirational. This course quickly transitioned from my most dreaded to most enjoyed.

Dr. John knows how create a community out of his class to make it more enjoyable. He is a speaking coach so don't be afraid to hear his critiques when speaking. At the end of the course you could really see the development of everyone after taking his course. The layout of the class is given to you in the beg. of sem. so it is a chose to follow it.

Read the syllabus daily you'll understand much more. USE THE STUDY GUIDE it is actually important. Follow his exact instructions and don't over think things. I was really scared of taking Comm1 but Dr. John's classroom environment makes you feel safe. He helps you grow. Since taking his class I've noticed how much better at communicating I am and I was able to land a job right on the spot by applying what I had learned throughout the semester. Amazing professor! Class discussions are fun and different.

My favorite professor at WVC by far! He made sure to make the environment safe and comfortable before we started giving speeches. Do the work, go to class, you'll get an A. If you reach a certain amount of points you don't have to take the final! He's funny and he felt more like a friend than a professor.

Follow his requirements and you are fine! The most important detail is to DO the rough drafts correctly. If you do that you are fine! The drafts are super easy to remember. He helps break you out of your shell if you're shy. And he helps hone your energy if you are outgoing. He's a master.

GREAT CLASS. I TOOK HIS HYBRID CLASS WHICH IS PART ONLINE AND PART IN-PERSON. WAS NOT AN EASY A BUT I'M GLAD I TOOK THIS CLASS. THIS CLASS HELPED MY DEVELOP A MAJOR LIFE SKILL, SPEAKING TO A GROUP OF PEOPLE. HE ALSO MAKES YOU THINK LOGICALLY WITH YOUR SPEECHES. YOU CANT SIMPLY JUST TALK WITHOUT BRINGING IN FACTUAL INFORMATION.

He is a great teacher with clear standards. If you have a problem -- go talk to him! Go to class and do your assignments, and you will pass with a great grade.

Johns class was awesome he really broke everyone out of their shell and was able to really coach you to speak in "public". He is a tough grader in his outlines however if you do all assignments and try you will pass. Also be on time and go to class. He's also pretty funny.

If you pay attention in class and follow his instruction you will be fine. The class is fast-pace and need a lot of work if you take a hybrid class. Do his outline very careful and follow his sample one then you will do well. Quizzes are based on the textbook, which he gave out the study guide on the first day of class. Also, don't skip class.

Dr. John is an excellent teacher! I took two classes with him. Public speaking in class and Small groups discussion online. He is clear about his expectations and if you follow his instructions there is no way you cannot achieve an A. His public speaking class was so much fun I really recommend you take that class as it was a great experience.

I took this class over winter and it was so great it convinced me to major in communications! John makes public speaking a breeze and gets you comfortable with the whole class while making it a very welcoming environment. didnt make you do a welcoming speech on the first day but you do need to study the book to do well on the exams, theyre not hard

John is a great teacher and makes the class really fun, just know that attendance IS A MUST and dramatically affects your grade, I took this class for winter semester so I don't know if it changes for spring or fall but he does make it a big deal. dont plan on being late,so maybe dont make this your first class of the day. Overall highly recommend

His lectures are great. He is a very enthusiastic, straight forward guy. As long as you follow his instructions and complete all of the assignments, it's easy to get a good grade. There are only a few major assignments and there is plenty of time in between them to work on them. His class is laid back and super fun. It's easy to meet new friends.

Easy and fun professor! You learn very hands and practical skills in the class that you apply to your everyday life. The class consists of 3 papers and 2 exams (follow the guidelines and study guide and you will do fine) .

John is an enthusiastic teacher that has loads of experience. Grading is clear and fair; everything goes off the syllabus so you always know what to expect. You lose extra credit points when you're late, if it's reoccurring you will lose grade points. Very reasonable policy, just show up on time and you're good. Merry Christmas!

I took his hybrid public speaking class. Met once a week in person then had an online assignment or discussion for the week. This class is great if you desire a flexible schedule. It moves fast- 6 weeks rather than 12. He is understanding, if you communicate any problems you have. You will learn APA! He knows his stuff and has a sense of humor.

This semester's almost half way done. I have to say Dr. John is the best teacher I have ever had. He cares if his students learn the knowledges he teaches . So far, I have redone the APA test 5 times. He is patiently to check the answers with commands every time. It is very excited to watch my classmates are getting better at speaking. Great class

I took John for Comm 004 and now Comm 008. Awesome Professor and cares about his students. There are a few exams but most of the material is really learning the content of the class to make you a better person and communicator. If you skip class and don't care then this isn't the class for you. Otherwise take it, awesome class!

Talented educator with a lot of skill in teaching, I took all his courses. Very approachable, willing to work with you, listens incredibly well. However, he has a sheltered view on some topics. Encourages you to challenge him! (Dont. Youll lose. Its engineered that way) steer clear of his political views and youll learn an incredible amount.

I took comm over winter so it was very fast. John helped me figure out my outlines and speeches so I would be prepared, and was very encouraging to everyone in class and supportive. He made a welcoming environment and wanted everyone to succeed. I didn't take any notes during lecture, but you do need the book and the study guide to pass the tests.

Loved this class! John is very passionate and teaches very well, just read the textbook and listen in class. You will get an A as long as you follow the instructions and guidelines

Great professor! You really do learn a lot and the work is very manageable. Even though his guidelines sometimes suck, just follow them and you'll easily pass. My only complaint is his lectures about persuasion speech could have totally been done in one day. Don't skip class.

Hannigan is a great professor. I took a couple of his classes, comm 1 he was an APA stickler and graded harshly. His grading set the tone for his expectations and once you learn it makes your life easier. Go to class and finish all assignments, be respectful because he does care! I recommend taking his interpersonal class, he does a great job!

Hannigan is a fair teacher. He knows what he's talking about when he teaches public speaking but is very anal about certain things. The first week of class he spent half a day talking about how certain words should be pronounced. I had him for the winter semester so he made sure we all knew that the class was going to go fast.

The accelerated Public Speaking winter course with John was fast paced, but definitely worth it. I became much more confident as a public speaker in his class, and learned a lot from it. You can't be late or ask questions at the "wrong time" during his class. However, he has AMAZING lectures that are very interesting to listen to.

He was a great teacher to have on the campus being one of the classes I would look forward to have during the week. While he may not be the best at articulating his feedback after speeches, he is very knowledgeable on public speaking that the knowledge you take out of this class will be invaluable in the job market.

He is an awesome instructor, hands down my favorite so far. Funny & relatable lectures. Very particular, but extremely clear about the criteria. I learned more from him in one Winter semester, than I did in the entirety of my Fall Eng 001A class. I am way more confident speaking. He makes me want to take higher level COMM classes. He is awesome!

Although this was a tough course John makes sure you learn something. He can be a bit of a stickler but as long as you stick to the proper way he wants things done you'll do tremendous in the class. One thing I will say though is that he doesn't directly answer questions through email, you'll generally have to make assumptions and figure it out.

It's been 2 years since I transferred, but he is 1 out of 3 teachers that I still remember and love. First day of class I thought he was hilarious, and knew I would love the class. He always made us interact in small groups to get to know each other, which made it easier to do the speeches. I didn't think my speeches were great but I got an A

I avoided taking this class for the longest time because I've always had trouble speaking in front of crowds. Dr. Hannigan truly cares about his students developing their public speaking skills. He has fair expectations from the get-go, so there's no room to slack off. Definitely one of my most memorable professors at WVC.

Prof Hannigan was an amazing prof to have for summer session during COVID. I took it to get credit for my 4 year university. His class is not hard, but you do need to put in work. Hes a bit disorganized but grades fairly. He doesnt explain things that well but gives good feedback when you ask for it. Has high expectations. All you have to do is listen and prepare and youll pass. Overall a kind guy.

He delivers passionate lectures and actively tries to engage the student. He is extremely critical with outlining but is always available for questions. Most of the time he has a friendly attitude and responds to all emails. His assignments are not always clear and as result the student can lose points so make sure to ask if you don't understand.

I took professor Hannigan for public speaking in summer and he is honestly the best professor you can possibly have for public speaking. He genuinely cares and wants you to succeed. If you get anxious about getting up in front of everyone like me, I promise you will be fine. He is so nice and very helpful. I learned a lot.

He began our class by asking, "what does it mean to listen?". He was such a thoughtful teacher, made us laugh, and cared about some of the weakest students in the class. He stopped us when we were speaking and gave us pointers on how to do better. We began each class by talking to those around us and he made the class feel like a safe space. 10/10

I took the 8 week asynchronous course and finished with an A which says something. The homework itself is quite easy, you just have to be motivated to do it. The professor was really nice every time i met with him during office hours. He loves student athletes and is very understanding for those participating in a sport at school such as myself.

He's fun, he doesn't give a lot of homework, and it's a good class atmosphere. He is strict about the organization for the outline of the speeches. You need to do APA format citations. Midterm and Final will most likely be on the book. Overall not too hard unless you procrastinate like me.

He is the nicest prof. I have ever had and this was my favorite class. You get to know your classmates and become acquainted. He is understanding and is good at teaching. Entertaining class. Loved this class! You rlly need to stay on top of your work and APA citations, but he spelled out everything to us so if you listen and follow the rubrics you will get an A. I think Professor Hannigan, for the most part, is actually a *great* teacher. Although I have *many* problems with his approach to teaching (such as springing surprise changes to the syllabus on us and his apparent need to share his ideology with his students), he was trying to teach us something *very* fundamental and important -- responsibility.

I've heard a lot about this professor and I think he may be more challenging in other classes. Personally he's a great teacher and isn't a tough grader for this class. He talks a lot in depth about his presentations and usually what he talks about will be exactly what we have for homework so I had a really good understanding. Overall, really great!

Hannigan is great! If you read his rubric and read his comments on previous assignments it's an easy A, he's also very good at grading in a timely manner. The organization of the class is great and I was never left wondering when something was due! Showing up to class is very important as you can earn most points by just showing up.

Had this professor back in Spring 2023. I thought he was great. I liked his charisma, personality, and the classmates I was surrounded with. I thought the feedback/grading was fair and insightful, and he showed no bias towards anyone from what I remember. Despite not liking the subject for obvious reasons, I'm forever grateful for the experience.

Tough love teacher. It is challenging work, but his grading and expectations are clear/fair. You will leave prepared for all future presentations. Do ALL the extra credit. He does pick favorites and will grade you better if you are liked. honestly, just have a convo with him at office hours. He's a super chill guy. Overall, loved the class.

Prof. Hannigan is a fantastic instructor. The only thing is that he is VERY STRICT with his grading. He provides everything you need to get a perfect grade (I got 100.18%), but you NEED to follow instructions very closely. He gives lots of extra credit opportunities!

Oh, Joh he was a great teacher.He was specific and gave tough love as a teacher;however, I still remember the things he taught in this class to this day. He will favor you if you spend an hour of your time office hours.This class is not for sensitive people,if you can handle it, it's definitely worth it. If you get with the program, you'll survive.

John is funny. I enjoyed taking this class. If you pay attention to the requirements for the outline, you'll do fine. My class had 3 speeches, each worth ten points more than the last. He does grade harder each speech. I will say he is a bit unorganized which made canvas annoying to use sometimes. Reading the book required for the class is helpful.

Students may see his class differently, but once you get to know him and visit during office hours, you appreciate his presence and conversations. He's cool, knowledgeable in communication and public speaking, and has taught me a lot. If I could, I'd ask him to be my mentor because he truly cares about his students' growth and confidence.

I really liked John! His expectations were clear. He has hot takes that I've seen make ppl mad but I wasn't bothered as much. Arrive ON TIME since he docs points for tardys + absences. Do ALL extra credit. Pay attention to detail when it comes to outlines. Utilize office hours. He seems to grade easier on ppl he likes so being a suck up pays off.
