This has to be one of the best teachers I've ever had the pleasure to study under. If you don't like hard work and personal responsibility, don't take his class, because that's what Mr. Hardin is all about. I wish all teachers were as good as he is!!

I enjoy this teacher and his class. He makes learning the study of Humanites interesting because he is passionate about this subject. If you don't like hard work, I wouldn't suggest taking this class. You will EARN your grade with him.

Mr. Hardin preaches down to his class as if human beings have lost their way, and he is the only worthwhile human left. He is knowledgable and makes his class extremely easy. Sometimes he worries more about projecting his radical left views than actually teaching the class. Very slow paced.

I thought this class was going to b easy, but i was wrong about it. If you are not prepared to put in the work, there is no way you will pass this class. He is very helpful but scares you at the beginning of the semester. The class be be interesting. Just be prepared to work hard.

I got an "A" in his class, but I had to work for it. Honestly, he's one of the smartest guys that I've ever met. Some people say that he trys to make you feel stupid, but I dont think so. He just tells it how it is. If you want to take a class and actually LEARN SOMETHING, then he's your guy.

Great teacher. Get on his good side and a head by having him proofread your paper before turning it in. Tests from notes. Very clear about what he wants. Willing to answer ANY questions period. Don't leave in the middle of class or be late all of the time...He'll rag you for it. He's also very attractive. I'd give him a tip if ya know what I mean.

Hardin has got to be the coolest Professor on campus! Definitely worth taking. Learning a lot, loving the class. But don't take him if you get easily offended by the subject of religion or other delicate topics in society.

This is an interesting course, if you are into this type of thing. The course is about average on the difficulty level. All in all I'll say it's worth taking. The insturctor makes the class worth it. He is truly dedicated to the success of his students.

Mr. Hardin was a bit of a heavyweight when he complains about previous students' incompetences, but when he focused on the material, he was very knowledgable and engaging. His tests were supereasy if you bother to attend class or browse the book. The "Big Project" was a pain, but it certainly gives a new respect and appreciation for the Arts.

He's an amazing teacher. Very opininated but awesome by far. He actually left for the rest of the semester because he's very sick but my goodness he's an awesome teacher. Class isn't the same without him.

Very interesting guy. I love to listen to him talk. Too bad he's married! He's pretty hot. Be prepared to write and read alot. Tests were pretty easy as long as you do the study questions. I'd take his class again in a heartbeat.

Mr. Hardin was a great teacher. If you take him, you won't regret it. The tests are easy, the study questions, which are assigned once a week, take a while. Although the study questions take a while, its another A for them and then and A or B on the test.

BEST TEACHER! He's AWESOME! An adorable smile if you can catch him smiling...which isn't too often. Take notes...study your notes and you'll get and A on the tests. I really felt bad that he got ill and we had to get a substitute. If you have questions about the Connections papers...he's always ready to answer questions and help out.

One of the best teachers at HCC. He is very smart along with being very organized. He shows interest in every single one of his students. While he's not an 'easy A', he does give plenty of opportunities to do well in his class. Unlike most profs, he is almost always available to answer any questions. He is the epitome of how a professor should be.

Mr. Hardin is one of the best teacers I've had. There is nothing better than someone with a strong attitude and opinions. If you love the history of life, then this is your course. It it definitely time consuming but worth all the while in the end. I enjoy him as a teacer. I recommend and will continue to recommend him to many other students.

Wow. What should I say about the man John Hardin? He is irresistibly sexy in a bookish, intellectual way. I find myself enraptured by the subject matter and his deep, sultry voice. He could read me my obituary and I'd die happy. Often dripping with sarcasm and incredible insight, his lectures leave his students shaken with truth and enlightenment.

there are 3 exams, which i totally thought they were going to be hard, but were not...there is one 900word paper due near the end of the term. In all this teacher was awesome i def. recommend him!!!

Took him for both humanities courses. He makes the material very interesting and connects with students in a way I have never witness before. Extremely effective at his job and very enlightening at the same time. He can be pretty controversial at times, don't take if you're prudish. Just took his Asian Humanities class. By far one of the best classes I have ever taken. Hardin can be a bit "in your face" but that just goes to show his passion for the material that he teaches. Prof. Hardin is a phenom is his field. Passionate is not a strong enough word to describe this man's teaching style. If you want to glide through the class though, it won't happen. But if you want to learn about humanities, art history, or speech Hardin will (sometimes via tangent)yet very enjoyably, blow you away.

THE BEST PROFESSOR AT HCC! quizes every week, study questions due weekly, one 650 word paper to write, final was cumulative, class participation required, easy A. class debates get on controversial subjects, he gets you to consider different views other than your own.

He looks a lot like the main character from 300. He is a great professor and I will try to take another one of his classes. He does not make you think out side of the box. He rips your box to shreds and introduces you to the real world. He will make you choose between the blue and the red pill.

One of my favorite teachers at HCC along w/ Wysong and Bishop. Gives easy quizzes with extra credit to help boosts grades. One paper you write that he helps you with. Only one test. Really encourages you to think outside the box, but if your ignorant like the person two down, just drop out of college and come back in 10 years when you grow up. lol

Professor Hardin is an amazing teacher. I took humanities 2 with him a couple semesters ago and now I am back to take humanities 1.

If you really enjoy humanities, you'll love this class. Mr. Hardin only expects students to work for their grade. Is that aweful, I think not, it's part of becoming an adult. If you do your work and show up to class you can Ace this class with flying colors. Learn to form your own opinion and stay away from conformity.

Overall a good professor. He was helpful if you respected his rules. Seemed to foreshadow existentialism when he gave his view. What really made his class truly great is that you will never forget this professor for the rest of your life. Teaches the humanities the way it should be. If you live in the bad faith don't take his class.

asian humanities class is very interesting. voicing professor indeed! he'll call you out if you are wrong, that's for sure! syllabus is fair, definitely not an easy course if you are a slacker (two exams given). film paper included. homework on different topics turned in varying.

Mr. Hardin is a great professor! He has a very different way of teaching and it's pretty cool. He also incorporates "Life's Lessons" into his lectures. I highly recommend taking this teacher...very great experience!

For everyone that says he's a horrible teacher, your probably upset that he's a teacher that actually makes you think and earn your grade. His classes are not hard as long as you do whats asked.Oh, and the person that says he grades papers like hes an English major, no he's a teacher that expects a college level paper! Makes sense, your in college.

He is a very critical person, he provides 10 quizes that will be your over-all grade in the class. He gets very upset if the class does not follow what he's saying, if you can take a strong personality then you're fine. I wouldn't recommend this class for an easy GPA booster; I prefer a Dale-Mabry instructor again from personal experience.

I personally loved the class. I can understand how he can be misinterpreted if you don't know where he's coming from. I believe the truth to be that he cares so much it hurts. I think the best way to describe him is a disillusioned optimist. He wants desperately to see the best in everything, but like many of us, keeps getting slapped by reality.

Extremely strong personality. Overall, a great teacher. If you can get passed his sarcastic and know it all demeanor, and his constant effort to make you look like an idiot, he is amazing. Definitely keeps my attention. I hate him and love him all at the same time.

Hardin is a very good professor. If you want to learn the subject this is the class to take. He expects college level work. His tests are not easy, but if you study the notes from class and the chapters he asks you to read, then you should do well. I think he's a great teacher. I feel the reason students have issues with him is because he makes you think. You should be paying for the class to learn something and not to just get a grade.

Mr. Hardin is EPIC. Even with a cynical view of the world, he's quite inspirational. I've actually changed my major to Humanities in the course of his class. People tend to think he's a jerk because he's realistic and makes you think. But then again, if you don't want to think, you probably shouldn't be in college, anyways.

He is hands down one of the best professors I have had. When I'm feeling down about a class I can come to him for some motivation. He is very out spoken and not affraid to offend anybody, which is great because people need to be open minded about others and not so uptight. You need someone to tell the truth and does just that!

Hardin is a hoot! He is clear on his expectations and whatever happens in-between is all part of the experience! Mos t of class is witty conversations that is better than any comedic entertainment, you gotta be there to get it. You will enjoy Hardin if your clever and like to have fun in class. Don't take him if your feathers get ruffled easily.

I took him for Spring 2010. This is not a boring class. He likes to teach. Makes the subject fun. Tests are average in difficulty. Theres a paper at the end of the term. Cool guy overall but takes things PERSONAL and sometimes wastes too much time talking about students or things in the world that irritate him.

Well, I took him for two classes and I have to say he is my favorite prof. I love his classes and his teaching is amazing. He teaches you to be independent and rely on yourself for answering your own questions. He even gave you study guide questions to help you study for exams. By far the best prof.

Mr. Hardin is really fun & exciting! He makes his students think about everything and encourages them to learn. The one thing that I dislike about this class is that he complains about students alot, which is understandable sometimes but not half of every class. I would have learned so much more if he taught about humanities instead of students

He's called a pessimistic a**hole, but he's a realist. If you pay attention and keep an open mind, you'll understand where he's coming from. He believes in what he teaches. You should be there to learn rather than to get a grade. He makes you think, so if you expect to be spoon-fed the material, don't waste your time and his.

Test questions stem from powerpoint/text. Attendence= mandatory. Three exams, one essay was workload. Answering a question, even correctly, will make you feel like an idiot. Hardin attempts to appear tough, but he gives breaks left and right, only to be disappointed by students and seen as 'unfair'. Never a dull moment in class. Great professor.

This professor is the best of the best. He makes you think and doesn't teach to tests. This is the way all of school should be, from elementary on up. Yes, he rants and raves, but are you listening to what is being said? You should because there is a lot to learn during that ranting. I wish I had more professors like him.

I took FIL 1000 at Brandon campus. I think it's a fun class, the group film project is my favorite memory of college so far. He gives detailed, constructive criticism for both your essays and your film project. If you try, you'll get an A. Buy the textbook because you use it to answer short answer mid-term/final questions, plus it's interesting.

Professor Hardin is by far one of the best at doing his job. Because he uses real life applications with regard to his lectures, a student is sure to leave his class with more knowledge than previously before entering. He wants you to succeed but also to show initiative and take responsibility. Take him, he's great!

Hardin is one of the BEST teachers at HCC. He is funny and sarcastic and helpful. If you can comprehend simple directions, or read the syllabus and understand what you've read (like not emailing him the essays) then this course will be a breeze. He comes off as mean, uncaring, insulting, and judgmental. HE'S NOT! Yes, he expects you to be able to back up everything you say and makes fun of stupidity but he's also an unexpected sweetheart. He is always willing to help and isn't a hard grader. TAKE THIS CLASS IT'S AWESOME

Greatest teacher at HCC hands down. If you get a chance you have to take his class he will blow your mind, and heaven forbid he lets you think critically. everything given to pass the class is there "black and white, clear as crystal" good day!

Bark is worse than his bite. Fair grader; listen actively to directions. Info is all there just do the work. MC quizzes and short response/essay exams. Classical approach to education which most aren't used to, yet definitely worth taking. Can be a bit rude by interrupting students while they're trying to explain themselves which is frustrating.

By far my favorite professor at HCC. Bummed that I waited too long to sign up for classes because I would have loved to take another class with him! Intimidating at first but if you study, put forth effort and do your homework you'll pass with an A! Absolutely brilliant professor! Really challenges students to open their mind! How dare people say Mr. Hardin is a horrible prof, this is not true! He is a FUN teacher, but that doesn't mean you can fall asleep in class and expect an A. This is a college course. Hardin is a great teacher. As an older student, I appreciate his questioning of your views. He is trying to teach you to think. Back up and defend your views. Having the advantage of age and experience makes me appreciate his sarcasm. You cant be a delicate flower in his class. He is teaching something more important as well as humanities.

MrHardin is the kind of teacher that every student should come across. While some ppl find him offensive, I truly believe he is just trying to get you to have an open mind and question. He made a topic I thought I hated into something very interesting. You would think he is a tough grader, but as long as you attend class and do HW you are fine!

All you have to do is go to class and read the assigned readings and do the questions which are mostly in order in the books. About 4 tests, with pictures of art work you have to remember. not hard. took him for fall.

Prof. Hardin is one of the best professors I've taken at HCC. If you enjoy learning and don't mind being taken outside the comfort zone he is the guy. Really makes you think and explore new ways to think about life and what really matters. If you are ready to read and participate this can be a really fun, enjoyable class.

Mr. Hardin's class was work. He's not "mean", he just has options, and a "don't care" kind of attitude. I wouldn't necessarily call him fun, but he isn't boring either. The most AMAZING teacher I have ever had in my life! Makes you think outside the box! I learned more from him than any teacher I have ever had before! Best teacher!

He may rant but they're relevant. Sometimes, ranting breaks the ice in content that may not be too interesting. Mr. Hardin is opinionated but a good teacher, don't let the negative comments on here scare you. He is a breath of fresh air and is easy to listen to.

He's a great instructor, he is very detailed when it comes to grading papers just make sure you refer to the syllabus and life will be easy. Yes, he does rant however, they tend to be related to stuff we talk about and if there aren't he is human, we all rant about something. He does everything he can to help you pass his class.

I like taking his class and the class would be better if there were less immature students in class. We are behind in criteria which isn't a big deal because my other teacher this semester goes though information faster then I can keep up. Keep in mind although he suggests the writing center I still got an unsatisfactory cheakmark after review.

Professor Hardin was great. I had him for public speaking. He doesn't expect you to be a perfect speaker, and his grading isn't too strict. He's pretty encouraging. Just don't forget your disk for the speeches. He does, admittedly, go onto tangents, but they aren't THAT distracting.

Overall a decent professor. He does tend to rant excessively and seems to be angry a lot. But if you just follow the instructions he gives you and show up to class, you'll get an easy A. He takes a while to get to the point in his lectures, but they're interesting.

Hardin is one the professors I looked forward to going to. I loved his lectures. He does tend to rant a lot but sometimes they do have a point in what he is teaching. Expect 2-3 essays which aren't bad. AND READ THE SYLLABAS!!! He has study questions and his tests are fairly easy. Just pay attention, take notes , do the questions and read.

He is one of the the few teachers Ive had that is not afraid to give his honest, and at times unpopular opinion on sensitive topics. His classes and way of teaching will make you think and question things- in a good way. i wouldn't recommend his classes if you are easily offended or over sensitive though bc he does like to push boundaries.

As long as you do the work you'll pretty much pass. A lot of video watching with worksheets and one major paper.

Mr. Hardin is one of the best professor currently at HCC, if you cannot handle other people opinions, writing a good essay and studying the study questions do NOT take him, he will make you work for it giving you plenty of chances to pass the class.

John was an awesome teacher. He will call students out on volunteered statements that make no logical sense, and he has a dry sense of humor that a lot of people take the wrong way. But he was hilarious. He engages students and really makes the class interesting. His lectures were outstanding. I wish more of his classes were on my degree program.

He's such a funny man and you can tell he knows what he's talking about when he teaches. Takes long to get through the course but gives you a better opportunity to learn the material

Mr. Hardin was awesome and sarcastic. He knew how to deal with us and his tests are easy if you read the textbook and pay attention to the videos. He does not try to make it hard on you however it is a tough class to learn. He is so sweet behind the comments and is very accessible and even does group studies on his own time.

Take him. He gives a study guide which grades by completion . very nice. One written paper but he helps and reviews it for you before you turn it in. Loves what he teacher. Test looks like the questions from the homework pages.

As long as you actually pay attention and do the work, none of his classes are made overly difficult. If you don't pass, it's your own fault.

Had him for Asian Humanities. He's a good professor; is very knowledgeable and is always willing to give you his two cents on any topic. Some people get upset at him easily because of how hard headed he can be at times, but they respect him, nonetheless. Work is easy (just packets on whatever country we're learning about) and a final online exam.

This guy is pretty awesome, hes real and honest. That being said if youre easily triggered I would steer clear- youre going to know where he stands on things, but honestly as college students you need it. His lectures are amazing and often funny. He gives easy tests and you have one paper. If you dont so well its u not him its you.

His lectures are long and off topic, but it's Arts, everyone sees things differently. 10 min on quizzes you take at home. quizzes materials are not discussed in class. He offers MId-Term & Final test. Just, let him be. He will answer email quickly with any help you may have. Be sure to read the syllabus. Overall worth taking.

First instruction I recall involved Venus of Willendorf. Saw it in Vienna 3 weeks ago. Thought of his great lectures. Take his classes if you can. You'll remember him

At the beginning of the course I was skeptical. Prof. Hardin's methods of teaching were nothing I was used to. However, he has become one of my most respected mentors. The lectures may seem long and meaningless, but the lessons learned have significantly helped me become a better student. Participation and following guidelines are key.

This is now my second course with Professor Hardin. This class is very capable for any college-level reader/writer. Many people find Prof. Hardin's views unacceptable, however if you follow the guidelines there are no complications. His methods are a bit eccentric, but the lessons learned are irreplaceable. Prof Hardin is a pleasure to have.

One of the best professors/teachers Ive ever had. I actually wanted to be in class and listen to his lectures. He does deviate from class material to talk about things happening in current society and in other classes, but sometimes it ties in with what hes lecturing about in class that day. Take his classes if you can.

If you're looking for a minimal effort class, for an easy credit, perhaps academia, much less any class with Prof. Hardin is worth your time. However, if you sincerely wish to learn the subject matter, you will find the path to success is only limited to the fervor of your study. Simply said, John Hardin is the GOAT . Very satisfying academically.

Professor Hardin was an incredible Professor. He rekindled my passion for the arts and inspired me to pass along the knowledge I have learned in his class to others. He did tend to go off-topic occasionally, but always found a way to tie in whatever he was talking about to the lecture. 10/10 would reccommend this Professor.

Professor Hardin is a wonderful teacher for this class and clearly cares deeply about his work. Even if you want to take this class just for credit, I highly recommend him as he is compassionate and will do his best to get you the grade you deserve. He gives well-written feedback on every assignment and grades fairly.

I had a great experience with Prof. Hardin. Overall, he was great although I did no meetings. It took a long time to grade, but I got 100s on everything. Also, very lengthy responses to assignments. It was hard to learn what you were doing wrong.

A well-structured class, and an easy A. Dr. Hardin often takes a while on grading writing assignments, as he will give you an essay's worth of comments and corrections- if that sort of thing gives you anxiety, beware of that. While you'll likely come away with a higher GPA, an understanding of the subject beyond the basics might not come as easily.

One of the best professors I've ever had. As the first on campus class I've ever taken he was incredibly considerate when I initially joined this class on accident. He called me and offered to petition for me, emailed the dean of the college, and even tried to help me switch classes. He is incredibly passionate about the subject and it shows.

You must read all the material understand it and take a test EVERY weekend on our own. BUT he gives a large amount of extra credit/ point (10+ ) included in almost everything. He has a very different way of teaching so if you are not an optimistic and open-minded person; and ready to do you own reading I would advise not to take the class.

I learned a lot about Asia and its different religions and cultures in Professor Hardin's course. If you stay on the homework and you use the textbook, you will do just fine in this class. Professor Hardin is a bit different than other professors but you can get a feel for him by the first week if you decide to drop.

This class was very engaging. Each week fascinating new concepts, places, people, etc. are introduced, which makes learning genuinely fun and interesting. My only qualm is that the readings (of which there are MANY. SO many) can be organized kind of... oddly on Canvas. Lots of use of unnecessary symbols like"=". Overall a great class.

Professor Hardin is very knowledgeable in this field and you won't find a better humanities professor than him. He is very passionate in what he teaches and gives loads of time to complete assignments. Extra credit is built into the tests and it's easy to pass the class if you do the reading and pay attention. Courseload isn't bad at all.

I appreciated most of this class. You could tell Professor Hardin is very interested in what he's teaching. It was overwhelming to see everything he posts online, but I learned to just pay attention to what's important. The study guides for the tests will take you through the class. Focus on those and you'll be fine.

He is the professor to take if you need an easygoing class that litterly has only a couple tests and discussions throughout the semester. This is my second time taking Mr. Hardin, very chill guy. Easy A.

Good teacher, had a great time this year. Don't know what all the bad reviews are.
