AWESOME!! Hawkins is a fantastic teacher and he makes class a lot of fun! I wasn't really interested in geology going into the class, but now I think it's pretty cool. He is a great guy! Got to class and pay attention to his pictures and you will be fine. It's not a hard class. Super approachable! My favorite teacher here at Auburn!

He's been okay. His tests are tough and if you think this class is just going to be a blow off, you're wrong. But all in all, it's an okay experience. He is always upbeat and very enthusiastic, but if you don't care about rocks, you won't thoroughly enjoy this class. Not bad though.

Hawkins is very clear when he teaches but can be vague on assignment criteria. Tests can be challenging. Never complain because he will give you a hard test. But he is very helpful and approachable. Very cool guy. And not bad looking either!

Needed a core science and did not want to take Bio or Chem. Awesome teacher! Would suggest to anyone out there. The tests come straight from his notes in class. Definitely worthwhile and great for a core class.

I found Hawkins to be an amazing professor. Attending the lectures is the most important part of the class. He's extremely clear about what will be on the test, explicitly stating questions word for word in lecture. Don't get the textbook, I never used it and got a high A. Offers extra credit (so an 87.5 was an A). Ended up loving the class.

Hawkins is a great lecturer and a pretty cool guy overall. He has lots of energy and does his best to make the subject interesting. He seems to lack focus, so he's often all over the place, but he's not terrible by any means. Go over his PowerPoints the night before his exams and you should be fine. Be prepared for quizzes and a group project.

He's a good professor. He posts powerpoints on canvas but you need to go to class because he will mention info that's not on the powerpoint that will be on the test. There were only 3 tests, of varying difficulty. He's very willing to explain something in more detail. Take good notes and study a lot, you'll pass. GO TO REVIEW SESSIONS IF OFFERED!!

Hawkins is such a fun teacher, he tries his best not to make his lectures boring. Tests can be difficult, but if you look hard enough online, you can find test bank type material that will help you get an A. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he does give random quizzes that will bring your grade down if you don't takepass them.

First of all, if you're a lady you will enjoy looking at him! Hawkins is a great teacher, but his tests are definitely tough, and it is difficult to find test baks. GO TO CLASS. You will not pass if you skip this class - all the study material is talked about in lecture only. He is very understanding about needing to make up assignments.

The key to this class is office hours. Not only is he super helpful, but he's also a really cool dude. The final exam is cumulative and there's a lot of material covered throughout the semester, so you really do have to put some time into this class. But he's more than happy to explainhelp if you just ask after class or at his office hours

My favorite class I take at Auburn. He makes learning about rocks super fun and entertaining. The class goes by so fast because of how interested I am in his lectures. Lab is not bad either, like yeah you have to memorize rocks but its not hard at all. I would recommend this to everyone.

John Hawkins was an awesome professor. I went to almost all of his office hours because of some of the crazy stories he could tell. His lectures would vary from hum-drum geology to just spending a class period talking about something super interesting like earthquakes and tsunamis. Tests were never crazy hard except for the lab midterm!

Hawkins is a cool guy, he tries to make lectures fun. But don't skip class, he gives pop quizzes that can lower your grade. A lot of his test answers are online if you look. Don't skip class.

One of the best core science classes I've ever taken. It's amazing how Professor Hawkins makes rocks so interesting. Not incredibly difficult, but not incredibly easy.

His lectures were very clear and easy to understand. If you go to class and take good notes, you'll find it easy to do well on his tests. I didn't use my book to study. Of course it was easy to keep my attention because I didn't mind looking at him for an hour.

Hawkins was one of my favorite teachers and his lectures were long but he made them interesting and very funny. His class wasn't mandatory but if you don't show up 2 or three times you will be lost and won't do well on the tests. The class is hard in terms of you must study to do well.

I really enjoyed his lectures, and the class always seems to fly by. Tests are fairly easy if you come to class and pay attention. He doesn't take attendance, but on some days he will make you write your name on a piece of paper and turn it in. I would highly recommend his class if you are looking for an easy science.

The class is entirely lecture, and you will need to study the book outside of class. He releases the PowerPoints before the tests and explains the concepts very clearly. Also, he is adorable.

Everybody loves Hawkins! He is so chill and makes the lectures interesting. His tests are very straightforward from the notes and lectures. I never paid attention in class but worked hard and studied the notes and got an A+. Lots of extra credit offered too! You can definitely make an A

Pretty easy and straightforward. If you find yourself a bit confused, definetely attend office hours! He's extremely helpful and clearly passionate about teaching. I did buy a book, but if you have a solid TA and listen to Prof Hawkins during lectures, you shouldn't need it at all.

Hawkins is the bomb. He does a great job of explaining everything and wants students to actually understand the material. Never used the textbook and only had homework every so often. There are random attendance quizzes once a month or so, so don't skip. Tests are straight forward and based entirely on lectures and powerpoints.

Only announces test dates in class and gives unannounced attendance quizzes (writing your name on a piece of paper), but other than that he is an awesome teacher. Makes learning about rocks fun and is truly passionate which helps a lot. If you take notes on what he says and study those, you will easily get an A.

He Rocks

Hawkins is probably one of the coolest guys you'll ever meet. He's tatted, shows up in Back to the Future shirts, and is just so chill. He made learning about rocks (something I never had an interest in) so much fun. The lectures are entertaining and engaging. He does give occasional attendance quizzes at random. Tests are not too hard.

Overall great professor. Attendance isn't mandatory but he will give pop attendance quizzes every few classes. Tests are easy and straightforward, and he gives extra credit opportunities. Definitely willing to help if your grade is borderline. Hawkins saved my scholarship.

Take him. Hawkins is amazing. He has a way of explaining conceptual stuff that actually makes sense. You can make an A with just his powerpoint bundle and some notes. He cares about his students (enough to reprimand sucky TA's) and also has a lot of entertaining commentary on the state of the universe, so.. Take him. Even if you don't need to.

John Hawkins is hot and is the only person who can pull of red sweatpants. His lectures are really funny and interesting. Only problem I had was that his tests are pretty difficult and the TAs for lab are terrible. Since it's a huge lecture hall class it's hard to get individual attention during office hours. Overall really nice guy!!

He is super funny and cares a lot about geology which in my opinion made the course more enjoyable even though I took it because I had to. Would take again even though I made a high B. Tests weren't too bad because people who took them in previous classes passed them down to us. Also if you email him about your grade he will fix it.

Professor Hawkins is hilarious. He makes such a boring topic pretty cool and interesting. I really did learn a lot. The lab midterm is impossible. There is just no way to know all those rocks. The final is super easy though so that's your hail mary for your grade. Go to class! He takes attendance and gives pop quizzes occasionally!

Hawkins is a really great, funny, and engaging teacher. However, his tests are quite hard. He changed them up this semester from previous tests so test banks aren't helpful. Hard to get him at office hours and he's usually drinking a beer if you find him. Wish I had taken biology instead of this class, but he is a great guy.

Hawkins makes learning about Geology fun, his lectures are super funny, attendance is not mandatory but if you don't go you probably won't pass. Buy his orange bundle it makes taking notes a lot easier! His test are slightly hard but if you go to class & pay attention you should be fine!

Buy the orange bundle and study up! It takes a little bit of work, but the class is easy overall. He is hilarious and makes Geology fun to learn about. 100% would take him again. He gives 30 bonus points and a chance to round up your overall grade 2 whole points. No excuse to not get an A. TAKE HIM.

Buy the orange bundle, it helps so much! He gives multiple extra credit opportunities and provides you with previous exams (correct answers included). The first and second exam are not hard at all. The third test is where it gets a little tricky, but still manageable. If you go to class, pay attention & have the orange bundle you will make an A.

Hawkins is a pretty cool dude and makes the lectures fun and interesting. All his notes are online. The test are half multiple choice and half short answer. Many students take this for an easy A but the tests are much more difficult than the lectures lead on. You can get an A, but you're really going to have to work for. Multiple extra credits

Hawkins is a very good lecturer and teacher, but be careful. He's so chill it can be easy to forget/not worry about this class, and then a test comes up and you have to know more material than you realized. It's not an especially hard class, but make sure you give yourself a couple of days to study for the tests.

Hawkins is a great professor, I never missed any of his lectures and he doesn't take attendance. That is saying something because his lectures are great, he is hilarious and makes geology super fun to learn about. He has been my favorite professor at Auburn. His exams are not easy, I bombed one & that prevented me from getting an A. But he's great!

Hawkins is really outgoing and passionate about Geology, not to mention funny. His class isn't mandatory attendance, BUT he has a lot of attendance quizzes and pop quizzes. The more you go to class, the more he will be willing to help you in the long run.

Hawkins is a good professor who made geology interesting, and he tried to help you out when he could. I really enjoyed the actual lectures. However, lab was terrible and basically ruined this class for me. My TA was boring and barely taught, especially the harder material, and the midterm and final were very hard and brought my grade down a lot.

Hawkins is really passionate about Geology and does his best to make really advanced topics simple for this entry level class. Buy the orange bundle that he sells through the bookstore & do extra credit questions for every test! Had 3 tests all of which had multiple choice and write in, but he tells you what to study for the written portion.

TAKE HIM. no questions asked - hands down best professor. you do have to study to do well & it really helps to go to class. he is extremely caring & accessible if you need him. he gave 25 points of extra credit on our tests, as well as a 13 point curve on the final, AND you can earn 4 extra credit points towards your overall grade! take him!!!!

Probably my favorite class so far. Hawkins is an incredibly entertaining instructor with vast amounts of knowledge on the subject matter. Course material is challenging enough to be interesting but not impossibly difficult; pulling out a C would probably be possible from attendance alone. Offers bonus points on all tests. 10/10.

I came into this class thinking i had made a huge mistake, but Hawkins is the best teacher i've ever had and managed to make rocks interesting. the labs suck but they're doable. Get the orange bundle and do ALL the extra credit!

One of the best professors I've had at Auburn so far. Super nice guy. There's no attendance taken, but definitely go to class. Lectures are very interesting; rarely goes much over 40 minutes. There is a textbook, but unlike the paper bundle there's no reason to get it and he says as much. Course itself great; not difficult if you put in the effort.

Great guy, the class is what you would expect an introductory class to be. Sometimes it gets a little difficult but if you buy the note bundle and do the extra credit the class is not hard.

Easy class if you go to class and get pink bundle. Each test has a multiple choice portion worth 100 points and a write in worth 100 points and you can get 10 points back on each test. He also tells you exactly what to know for each test. You also can get 6 bonus points on your final letter grade

easiest science for sure, show up to class and get the note bundle and you will pass. He also offers extra credit for just taking a selfie in front of Stone Mtn or Providence Canyon. He is also really funny, and if you study the tests are super easy. Made geology interesting, i'd take him again.

Highly recommend that you go to class and study for exams. I havent been able to find his lectures online, and he elaborates In his lectures so the slides alone wouldnt cut it anyway. Exams are hard but doable If you study. His lectures are amazing and he has a great sense of humor.

You need to get the pink bundle notes. You need to attend class. If you do those things you will pass. In class, he literally tells you things to remember for the test and what will be on there. If you skip you will find it difficult. I am not good at science but this class is FAR easier than other science options.

Get the pink bundle, go to class, do all the extra credit. Easy A. Gave 4 points on the FINAL average if all extra credit was done. Class is optional and you can do well without going but if you go you should make 100s because he tells you half of the test. Tells you the first day he knows there are old tests and you should study them. He didnt lie

I have absolutely no interest in geology and still found his class enjoyable. GO TO CLASS. He covers the material very well, tells you what will be on the test, and announces test dates in class. Hawkins gives great, interesting and hilarious lectures. The material can get a little confusing at times but he does his best to strip things down to make them very easy to understand. All of his test questions are from his lectures and he will even tell you to mark things as test questions. He is great I definitely recommend him, but go to class!

Hawkins LOVES rocks. I mean, really, the man loves his job. That's what makes him such a good professor. He makes me laugh in each class. All around just an amazing guy.

Hawkins makes geology interesting in his lectures and tries to pop a few jokes in every now and then. He gives a slide workbook that you do have to pay for in the book store but it is not mandatory. This did really help me study for tests though because he tells you exactly what will be on the test so I would just put a sticky note on that page.

Hawkins is the best prof here at Auburn. He truly loves his job and makes silly analogies that you will not forget. The lab, at first can be difficult, but don't lose hope. Pay attention in lecture and you'll be fine! BUY THE GREEN BUNDLE! It will save your life!

Really nice professor. His tests can get kind of difficult at times but most quizlets help, definitely suggest purchasing the greenbook (green geo binder at bookstore). Also I would've had a B if I would have done all of the extra credit. TAKE THIS CLASS!! It's one of the easiest science class you can take at auburn.

Professor Hawkins was a G his class was super interesting and not that difficult. I actually learned a lot in this class and came out with an A.
