Funny and great teacher. Down to earth. Had him for a short semester. Very easy. MC-tests. Good lectures. easy grade
lectures unclear and boring, book has nothing to do with lectures. most exams are based on homework problems and lectures. i love physics but stay away from this teacher.
if you couldn't care less about science or espically physics than don't take this prof. you probably will regret it. this is not the teacher who will make you fall in love with physics or science or anything else. too hard for an intro class.
Nice guy, very smart but the course is a little too hard for an intro class. HW every night, 6 quizes, 3 midterms, and one final. His tests are based on notes/hard; if u r familiar w/physics then take him, otherwise dont!
Aaaahhh!!! I love physics but this class is way too hard, unnecessarily so. His lectures are unclear, and he goes off on tangents. There's way too much homework, and tests are random so it's hard to study for. Not a bad guy but way too ambitious!
I had a great time in his class. He tested us on exactly what he taught.
u'd like to take his class if you got too much excess time..u gotta turn in assignments every lesson, with more than 20 questions(NOT EASY!), so if you miss one lesson you're gone..difficult quizzes and mid-terms..more than half of the class failed..
very easy teacher; he gives a lot of extra credits that bring up your grade; but his exams are super-confusing and totally different with whatever he goes over in class. so be ready to do poorly on the exams! take him if you already know some physics.
so many assignments but it's not that hard to get an A in his class he tests on exactly what he taught in class and he's very helpful he always answers your questions he gives you lots of extra credits which even bring your one letter grade up
Even though he complemented me for doing a good job in the class, he is very unprofessional in dealing with the students. Sometimes, he would get off the subject and talk things of no interest. If you make him angry, he'll confuse you in his lecture to get back at you. I do not recommend him as a teacher.
Highly skilled. Moves fast but answers questions. Focuses on paring down to essential elements of physics instead of spending time on extraneous proofs or unused relations. Emphasizes understanding of general forms over specific problems. Very willing to help students, answers questions, stays after class, shows how to finish homework.
Rigorous professor, but believes in simplifying physics to its most elegant forms - covers necessary material but tells you where to focus on the concepts that are most important. Also a fun, upbeat person in general. Speaks clearly, willing to haggle over scheduling of tests. Gives interesting demonstrations. Sometimes moves a bit quickly.
As my first physics class, I thought it was going to be hard (I took cal. beforehand), but after taking his class I can tell you that he is a great professor. Too bad he does teach phys. 22 or above. Take him if you can
AMAZING! Gives tons of extra credit, tries to keep lectures as simple and to the point as possible, likes to test students' conceptual ability, and exams are very fair. Participate in class and don't be late. Professor Henderson is truly a gift to the physics department. I love teachers who actually WANT their students to do well. Take advantage!
If you really want to understand physics, take prof. henderson' class, fun lecture, extra credit, plus he gets you to understand physics concepts visually rather than mathematiclly. Great guy, cares about his students and is willing to stay after class to help out, show you care and are trying and he'll help you out.
Very cool teacher... helps u on quizes n tests if u dont understand the questions... tons of xtra credits... lotsa hmwk assignments but he only grade it base on ur effort (as long as u write something, he's gonna give u full credit)...
So, my opinion is different from everyone it seems. I took his class thinking he was a great teacher cuz i believed the hype about him. If your just looking for an A, take him...your guarenteed to get one. But if you need a solid background in physics dont take him! He doesnt teach at all! Your gonna end up teaching yourself in his class.
homework is graded as long as you did all the problems, tons of extra credit, quizes and midterms are curved (depending on how well the class did).if you are used to taking notes chapter by chapter you will have a problem.he is very helpful when u are having problems,he will explain until u get the material! A = hard work + EC
Overall, a good teacher. Keep up with the homework; go to class because he utilizes examples he does in class in his tests. Class is enjoyable; he's funny; and he gives students room for error (drops certain quizzes if the whole class does poorly). It has been the hardest class I've taken at SMC so far, but now I feel accomplished.
Hard for A grade + Extra crdit as somebody said. His lecture and practice problems are not related with test problems, so DO NOT CONCENTRATE on it. If you already learned before, I might say it's good for B. But, you will realize he doesn't teach anything. I have no idea if you naver learned physics before.
His lectures are %100 USELESS. Only take him if you have a STRONG background in physics. Tests/QUIZES have NOTHING to do with lecture. I only showed up so I would get credit for RANDOM labs. He is disorganized. Entire class had poor scores. PROS: Extra Credit, Corny Funny. You will get C at most B (curved) unless uv learnd the material prvsly.
Fun class, three hours long but it goes by quick, humorous guy, seems very laid back, interacts with students a lot, always willing to help out students by giving extra credit, allowing us to correct midterms and get half credit for each prob, lots of points for hmwk, if you don't understand something he'll make sure you understand before you leave
LOVED THIS CLASS! He's really chill, fun, and nice. If you have a question he will explain thoroughly without making you feel dumb for asking. He got his PhD from Stanford, so he really knows his stuff. NO MATH! if you want a SOLID grasp of the concepts of physics without the headache, go for him! He'll get you excited about physics!
Such a fun teacher! I had no interest in physics prior to attending this class but Professor Henderson made me feel like I could actually apply what we were learning to my everyday life. He always engaged the class and made the time fly. You really can't go wrong with this teacher. The tests and quizzes were fair and there were no surprises.
Great teacher! Very helpful and wants you to do well. Easy to do well if you do homework. Can do midterm redo's for half credit per problem. Lots of extra credit to help you out. I knew nothing about physics and still got an A, helps you understand a difficult topic.
OMG this teacher was amazing. so helpfull with students. will make sure to keep explaining this until the student really understand. he really cares if students do well. this tests are pretty straight forward. an A is not impossible AT ALL. take him!
I enjoyed his class very much. Henderson is a kind caring, and knowledgable teacher. If you do the work you will do well.
I took his physics 12 course and it was a good fun course because we were able to be more laid back. He is very useful when you ask specific questions, but like many teachers you need to ask. Henderson has a good sense of humor and his class is very enjoyable, this is a good introduction to physics
To those whose major is engineering, I must say please do not take him. Do not take him at least during short semesters. He tries to act funny, and doesn't teach at all!! He teaches the chapter by solving just two examples!! I'm really good at my calculus, but did not see any corelation between his lectures and the calculus. Do not recommended..!!!
Really fun and does a good job at making the information interesting, which given the subject can be very difficult. Doesn't mind going over things, and will help if you ask.
he's great. lots extra credit. BUT he has favorites.. only geniuses students and those who sat in the front.
The first day of the school, he said " if you hate physics, u must had a bad teacher in the last school" Now i hate physics! He is not so prepared for the class, he just make up questiong for the quiz and said it out without printing on a paper. if you miss it, too bad.. He just keep talk about F=MA and his FMAVD theory. his worst teacher i had !
Took 6 week Winter semester where he FLEW, 1 Chapter / day. Not much time left to absorb. His exams can be tough, but don't let that discourage you. Work ultra hard, show up on time, and be a good student in general then you should be able to get a B, maybe an A. Very cool and reasonable guy though.
Amazing teacher. Passionate about phys n extremely helpful. You can ask him any question about physics and he will answer it with great interest. Great sense of humor too. Gives lots of extra credit. N all those ppl saying hes hard shud realize that its a physics class at college level and the way he teaches it is the easiest its ever gonna get.
Henderson you rock....This was a great class. Professor Henderson knows the best way to get his lesson across, I just love the way that he delivers the ENERGY concept. I recommend taking his class.
All of my notes just say F=MA. Makes you do homework of chapters that he hasn't even lectured on. His lectures have a tone of superiority and that the students are incompetent. Labs are fun. Quizes and tests are vague, used for trickery and are poorly written. Teaching needs a lot of improvement.
John is truely a professsinal. I never felt tired in his class. He gives students Extra Credits which makes people think about physic as well as gaining valuable points. He even tells what type of questions he would ask on his exams in order to ease the exams. Do the extra credits and pay attention to him in the class = get your "A" and enjoy physi
If you're not interested in learning physics and want an easy A with no work then this is not the professor for you. He guides the self motivated and does an amazing job at instructing actual science majors. Henderson is why I changed my major from CompSci to Physics. READ THE BOOK, don't be lazy and you will get an A. He is a more than fair grader
He shows you every problem that he will test you on. If you copy every thing he writes on the board and make yourself understand it, you should get an A. If you still don't get an A, do the extra credit and you will get an A. It's not that hard.
Don't take him unless you have taken high school physics. He only assign even number problems so that you can't copy the answers from the back of the book. The final was extremly hard!!It had over 12 pages!!Also, you have to rush to finish a lab as there is never enough time.DO NOT RECOMMEND.If you really have to,take it P/NP and god bless you.
One of my favorite teachers that I have had. Good sense of humor, down to earth, responsive and attentive to his students. THE EXAMS ARE MOSTLY FROM CLASS EXAMPLES. Pay attention, ask questions, and make sure you understand what is discussed in class. If you don't get a B or A in this class you should rethink your dedication to your education.
Cool guy, took physics 21 over the summer, which I highly do not recommend (you'll learn much more if you take it in a regular semester). He goes over homework problems, so make sure you pay attention. Class is extremely easy, passing is no big deal; not passing...now THAT takes some SERIOUS effort.
Doesn't teach whatsoever. Not organized at all. He confuses us with his other class all the time. I have taught everything to myself this semester. Do not take him if you have not taken any other physics classes.
I don't understand how people can complain about Henderson. He is straight forward. He gives you study guides and lets you choose how many questions you want on your exam/quizzes. Also what you want your final to look like (how it'll be graded). If you do poorly, you didn't study or read. Create study groups.
Very good teacher. He explains things very well and goes through the homework in a very thorough manner. If you read the book and listen in class, you'll do just fine. He will answer any question you have and will explain them the best he can. He is very knowledgeable in his field.
One of my favorite professors at SMC. Clear lectures, great sense of humor. Always willing to help students understand the material. Gave us many extra credit opportunities and practice questions for the tests. I learned not only about physics, but also many important real life skills that I'm applying to all my classes. Highly recommended.
This guy is my favorite professor so far at SMC. His test are a little tricky but they are tricks that he teaches you in class!! If you keep up with lecture and make sure you can replicate what he does on the bored your golden! On top of that he brings this stuff into the real world making it incredibly interesting. Hes strait forward! awesome prof
Great prof, he really knows his stuff. He makes it a stress free atmosphere and a lot a fun. He likes to poke fun at students so don't take if your easily butt hurt. My favorite class at smc by far.
Incredible physics professor. He'll teach you physics in a way where the concepts are so practical you can go home and explain it to your friends. He makes physics COOL, a truly inspirational teacher.
he is a really great professor . he helped me a lot.
Great professor, knows his stuff, make sure you study from the worksheets most concepts are hard to relate back to the book. Other than that, do homework, don't skip lectures. Never miss an extra credit opportunity, he is a fair grader so long as you don't beg and show your mastery of the material
Great professor who relates what you're learning to real life whenever possible. He gives lots of extra credit opportunities and tries to give you credit if you show him you know what you're talking about. Show up and do the work and he'll meet you more than halfway.
Professor Henderson is a really sarcastic and sometimes condescending guy, but that doesn't mean he doesn't care about his students success. The students that actually go to all the classes, he makes a note of and it also helps because he is really generous about giving extra credit. Just don't slack off! You'll be fine.
The tests are based on the homeworks and lectures. Just do it and you will pass.
Never before your class had anyone taught me to not only question the physical world but to also engage in outside resources and articles to seek the answers. I felt engaged, not merely as a student, but as a mutual! I've never had a professor come down to my level like that. Amazing Professor for Physics, hope to take him again for the next class.
Solid physics teacher. Makes physics actually enjoyable. Has a good personality and loves to joke. If he rags on you don't take it personally. Gives plenty of extra credit. Gives daily hw to keep you on top of the content. Terrific teacher if you already know physics. Only critique is that some content wasn't presented clearly enough. Solid choice
If you have a strong background on Physics, risk taking him. The man knows his stuff but if you don't have a solid strategy on learning all the concepts on your own while having to deal with a confusing path that he lays out; He'll leave you frustrated. He can be a bit condescending too. If you're just starting with Physics I wouldn't recommend.
Lots of quizzes throughout but some count as extra credit toward your midterms! ALWAYS have your book super useful, and occasionally lets you use it for quizzes. Also, make notes for each test as he'll allow a sheet. The material was tough but doable if you stay on top of the homework. Overall very passable if you put the work.
I absolutely love physics and come from a very strong background where I've been doing theoretical physics since I was in 7th grade. With that being said, do not take this professor. Nothing he says makes sense and the textbook isn't of much help either. He will talk around the point but nobody except him will understand it. Don't risk your sanity
Homework is optional, but if you don't do it the exams will be worth more. However, the homework does not help you study for exams. He is also not very clear in presenting certain concepts. However, he is one of the most accommodating professors I have ever met, and wants to help you if you're struggling. He also gives out a lot of extra credit.
Rambles too often and it takes him forever to get to the point of the concept. which makes it frustrating for students. Very direct with telling you what is wrong. Doesn't respond to all of his emailed questions. Tests include concepts from lectures. Doesn't give enough specific practice problems that mimic the test, making me feel unprepared.
Great professor, he made it easy for us to pass his class. Allowed us to distribute points from labs, homework, exams, etc. to whatever would maximize our grade. There's no due date for the labs, but definitely get them done when he assigns them because I was an idiot and waited until the last week of the semester to start them.
Amazing! For the first two quizzes I got 0/10, i got 28/100 for my 2nd midterm and ended up with an A. I worked really hard and Henderson knows it. He gives out extra credit and opportunities for you to make up what you lost. Work hard and it will pay off. He knows his stuff and really want you to succeed
John Henderson was not a good teacher. I had to self teach myself this class because he barely taught us anything on Zoom. He assigned us way too much homework and the problems were way too hard. Quizzes and tests did not ask similar questions to the homework. He also had a lot of weird rules in his class and was very strict about them.
I took physics 8 with John last semester. He didnt do a good job teaching us and had rules that made completely no sense. Like, he made us send him files that could only be 1 MB or less or he wouldnt accept it. He really made no sense. Ill just put it like this, dont take a physics class with John unless you absolutely positively need to.
I feel like in group settings (like lecture), Henderson seems like an ok professor. But in one on one settings (like office hours or emails), hes really not nice. He seems to be oblivious to how poorly he treats students, is never helpful, and he also seems to speak in a patronizing tone of voice in the way he talks to students like myself.
Prof. Henderson's teaching style is really not good. He barely goes over anything during his zoom lectures and I have to self teach myself this hard subject. It also does not help that his Canvas page is very disorganized and there is no structure to his class. I would not take this class again and would drop in a heartbeat if I could.
Just had the 1st physics midterm of the semester. I can confidently say most of the class was unprepared. The homework and lectures did not cover the test material. He also has odd submission guidelines. The submission guidelines are as important as the test itself. I am considering dropping the class and take it with better professor in the fall.
I really regret enrolling in Hendersons physics class. People that I knew that took his class in the past told me avoid him at all costs, but unfortunately he was my only option. To put it bluntly, Henderson is very unprofessional. His class is very unorganized, his guidelines are not clear at all, and his attitude is the absolute worst!
He has very vague guidelines and wont accept work that is not like his imaginary guidelines. He also changes his format/style midway through the semester and expects students to follow new format. Homework is nothing like the tests, it is pure busy work! So are the labs! Just busy work. Very unorganized Canvas page. Horrible horrible horrible!!!
We just had the second midterm yesterday. I just got my grade back and its safe to say Ill need to drop the class or I will fail. John is very inconsistent. His first midterm was nothing like the homework. It was almost exactly like the practice midterm. Now he flips the switch on us. The midterm is more like the homework now! Goodbye John!
Henderson is not a good teacher at all. He doesnt really do anything. We are basically on our own. Self teaching through his textbook. I would drop this class if I could. Im currently barely hanging on with a C and I dont know if I will be able to hang on to it. The drop deadline already passed, so dropping the class is not an option.
The material is hard. But Professor Henderson is FAIR. Tells you exactly what work to do, what to pay attention to, exactly what's on the exams. His grading structure ensures the best grade possible. He cares if you do well in his class and will make it possible if you're willing to do the work. Makes himself available at all times. Great teacher
In the beginning, I found him to be a very hard person to deal with. He wanted students to do things a certain way and was strict about his requirements. As the semester went on, I found his class to be easy. Just do every assignment, including optional ones. For some reason, a lot of students had trouble following his requirements later on.
No one mention this so Ill start with this: the final exam (20 percent of grade) is not cumulative. Midterms (30 percent of grade) are also not cumulative. If you go to lecture and participate A LITTLE BIT, he will give you points for it. Otherwise final is worth 25 percent of grade. Bottom line: do all homework and labs and participate in class.
Professor Hendersons teaching style/learning environment takes some getting used to, but it was a breeze afterwards. His expectations for students seemed very unreasonable at first. In order to maintain good grades, attend lecture (even though its optional), do homework, do labs. I did every extra credit assignment.
He is a good professor. If you listen to what he says in class, you are sure to pass the class. He will never test on something that was not talked about in class
his teaching style was a little bit interesting/ he had some very specific rules (no pdf more than 1 MB etc.), but it honestly was no big deal- just a slight adjustment. if you follow his rules and guidelines, it's a guaranteed 100% in the lab and homework category- which is about 30% of your grade. the textbook isnt helpful, but his lectures are.
Best Prof I have had. He is sensitive to how different people learn, He frequently adjusted the course structure at the requests of students to meet their needs. He never just gives students low grades on assignments, but instead explained to us what we were missing and allowed us to resubmit assignments until we got 100%. Learning was the goal.
Fair exams. Quizzes are easy if you do the homework and review the notes. Lectures were easy to follow and to the point
Professor Henderson was a good teacher, as long as you attend lectures and make sure to review the lectures intensively before exams. Fair grader and wants to make sure that you do not fall behind. His class is lecture heavy, skip the hw, do your best on the quizzes, and turn your labs in on time. 3 Midterms which practically make up your grade.
Not an easy subject. Henderson teaches the material in his own style that takes the multi step problems introduced in this class and provides his students with clear instructions that put the solution into defined steps. Participation is a must in this class, he appreciates student interaction during lecture and has good social tact.

Very flexible class that caters to different styles of students for grading. He does a good job of breaking down the more challenging problems with simple, familiar techniques. Staying on top of the lecture material and being overall caught up on the class goes a long way.
Attending this class is extremely rewarding. The information taught is invaluable. Professor Henderson works diligently to help students succeed in his course by offering various opportunities for extra credit. He also provides excellent feedback. His lectures are incredible and thought-provoking. I would return if I could.
During my time taking PHY21 with Prof Henderson, I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the class. Though I usually find physics to be difficult, his lectures and feedback given throughout the course allowed me to succeed and understand the content fully. Would definitely recommend him to anyone taking this class!
This course was really interesting! I appreciate all of the professors help and clarifications throughout the semester. A lot of second chances and no points deducted for late assignments.
This was a great class. The material is super interesting and professor Henderson brings it to life. Its structured in a very flexible way, no hard deadlines for homework, you can repeatedly resubmit assignments to get a better grade, and can have improved test scores replace old lower scores. The only mandatory meetings are 2 midterms and Final.
Homework is optional! You get credit for doing as much of the homework as you can but never lose points for missed assignments. Prof H will convince you that it is in your best interest to do the homework because many of the test questions are based on those problems, but for someone who has to work along with going to college its great!
This course was really well structured for me. There are some mandatory meetings but Henderson posts recorded lectures for each week that can be watched at any time. This was important to me because of my work schedule and other responsibilities. Take notes of the recorded lectures! He allows you to use your notes on exams.
This was a great class. Really straight forward, the entire class is mapped out with detailed schedules including, as I would put it, "suggested" due dates for assignments. You can turn work in after the due date without any points being deducted. There were absolutely no surprises.
This is listed as a calculus-based course, but Henderson was able to explain and provide solution methods for problems that use calculus without it being complicated. You can definitely get through this and succeed without being a great calculus student. I learned more about calculus here than in my calc class. I wish he would teach Physics 9.
I really enjoyed his physics 8 class. In my opinion, it was super engaging and fun. He gives lots of extra credits. The tests are a bit heavy but if you do the homeworks and the practice exams before the class, you will do great :)
I really likes this prof's help to individual students throughout the semester. I did well on the first midterm but then had a real misstep on the second one. Prof H took time in person and even in zoom meetings over the weekends to get me back on track. Homework is optional but credit is given if you do it. It really helps you prepare for exams.
I really learned a lot. We did many real life examples in class and in the labs. The labs are done and turned in in groups, so you can help each other out with the write-ups. Do as much of the homework that you can and get points, and you dont lose any points for homework that you dont do. The solution manuals are all available so its easy to do.
As online classes go this one is pretty standard. There are a couple of mandatory meetings which you have to schedule for. This is definitely not a class where you can simply google answers. Prof will nicely call you out on it, if you do. So you have to watch the lectures and read the book. Tests are open notes and book so its straight forward.
This is a great class and a great teacher. Its fast paced but manageable. Homework is optional. I wish the Henderson would teach physics 22.
Best professor i have ever had! Life changing. Teaches the course material but always compliments it with life lessons. Not only will you master the course material, you will master the materials to your professional life! the keys to succeed for all your goals. Take this course, even if its not required!
Really enjoyed this course and teacher. I feel very well prepared for my next physics class. I highly recommend this course. Henderson provides practice quizzes and practice exams which, along with lectures, really gets you prepared for the tests. Homework was optional.
This was a great experience. Taking and online course is a bit intimidating for me but I have a tough work schedule so I dont have a lot of choice. Prof Henderson met with me individually many times and made sure that I was moving in the right direction. This was so much better than typical googling of random info that many online classes embrace
Homework is HEAVY, but graded on effort. Look for the answer key book to know if you are applying it correctly (he allowed it for us when a classmate found it). Actually read chapters. The 2 Midterms and Final were straight from the lectures. Watch the videos and take thorough notes. The material is really cool. It's easier if you get into it.
I really enjoyed Professor Henderson's class! All of the lectures were really interesting and he was great at conveying physics concepts effectively. The homework each week could take a lot of time to complete, but he grades based on effort and they really help prepare you for quizzes/tests. He was also responsive outside of class.
Henderson did a great job at introducing the course and setting our expectations. I learned a lot and feel that I am well prepared for the next physics classes that I have to take. Homework was optional but you are better off doing it and getting credit for it. He gives practice quizzes and exams that really help also.
This was a great experience. Henderson is aware that students learn in different ways and presents options on how to approach solving the problems. He includes life lessons on physics, on turning in assignments and lab write-ups. Very helpful and obviously cares.
He has little compassion for his students and makes everything difficult. He is also disorganized and does not utilize canvas. The lectures are dense and 3 hours long prerecorded. They were hard to get through. I would recommend avoiding his class at all cost.
This class was great! Very well organized and completely Canvas driven. The best part is that Prof H doesnt overcomplicate it with too many resources. Many prof's add too much stuff that take more time than the class lists as is required. This class states that it is a 3 hour a week lecture class, Prof H keeps it to just 3 hours per week.
This online class has the best canvas site that i have seen and experienced. I take almost all my classes online and this the canvas makes it clear of what is required and when. Prof H is always available outside of class for meetings, even on weekends, and responses to email within a day. It is not self-paced, but allows a lot of flexibility.
Prof H does a great job explaining the material and explaining why its important and matters. Homework is optional but worth doing for the credit given towards your grade. Take notes on the problem types that he highlights in class, they show up on the quizzes and exams. If you just do the work, getting an A is straightforward.
I am currently in physics 12, it is an online class. Prof. H always accepts late assignments without any reduction in points. There is extra credit opportunities, and even chances to retake tests and quizzes. I work full-time and this flexibility is great. I also really enjoy the material.
This professor is helping me get through this class with great caring and patience. I had to miss several assignments and a quiz. The class is structured so that I was able to catch up with my missed assignments and replace the quiz. Really helpful and understanding.
This class was great! Homework is optional. If you do it, you get credit for it and it helps on the exams. If you chose not to do it, or if you miss assignments, it doesn't count against you. There is also extra credit to make up for missed quizzes or low scores. I definitely recommend this class.
This was a very well organized online class. The lectures are pre-recorded and cover all the material that is on the quizzes and tests. The homework is very structured, they take time to complete, but Prof. H. lets you correct them until you get the score that you want. Easy to follow, good pace. I would take it again.
This class has difficult items that it covers but was easy to follow. The Prof made it clear what was expected and the grading was very fair. He allowed us to replace previous low scores with earned higher scores as the course continued. I had a few miss steps but was able to recover and get an A in the class.
He gives you a lot of extra credits and even adds them to your midterm and final exams. It's very easy to get an A if doing homework, complete all the labs every week. Please review the notes in your notebook (attendance is not mandatory but you should go everyday to take notes). The questions will be 70% in the study guide and 30% in the notebook.
Very organized class, clear schedule followed with all exams and quizzes included. There was extra chances to turn in assignments, no points taken off for late assignments. There were extra credit opportunities and chances to replace poor scores with improved scores. Dont get behind on the homework and lab write-ups, its a lot of work to catch up.
This was a great class and a great way to learn a lot about physics. Henderson provided a foundation the beginning and we built on it all the way during the semester. There was a lot of homework at first but he reduced the amount of required problems as the semester progressed. I would take again.
This was a great class and I learned a lot too. Henderson provided a guide on what to focus on in the chapter reading. This really helped. The homework assignments take a lot of work but he allows you to fix them and turn them in. The exams were curved. He was always pointing out cool things about physics that you can apply to your everyday life.
Prof. Henderson is an amazing teacher. He goes above and beyond to help students. Even though this was my first physics class, I ended up with an A by doing the work & attending office hours. He offered about ≥3 hours of office hours a week. He made physics fun and interesting. I'd say this was my favorite science class I've ever taken in college.
I took Prof H for Physics 8 last semester. I am now realizing how valuable the material that he emphasized in his class are now that I am in Physics 9. I am very well prepared for my current class. I have been going to his office hours for help in my current physics an math class even though he is no longer my Prof. He welcomes me every time.
We just took our first midterm and there were no surprises. Difficulty is what Prof. H told us it would be. We were able to use a sheet of notes and everything that he emphasized in lecture was on the exam. I think that I did very well.
We just took our first midterm and I didnt do that well on it. After some coaching on how to prepare, we were able to retake the exam, a different exam to improve our grade. This was awesome and saved me. I think that I know how to study now.
He is such a sweet person. Very helpful when you ask questions. If you hate to read, stay away from this class. I attend all lectures and I hate reading. I am having a rough time in this class. Tests are based on lectures and the textbook. He gives a lot of extra credit but you have to attend class to know (he'll tell you the day of).
I almost didn't take Prof Henderson because of grade distribution. In hindsight, that would've been one of my biggest academic mistakes! He's an engaging lecturer & thoroughly made me enjoy Physics. If you care enough to attend class, take solid notes, & write down each hint he gives throughout the semester - you'll have a clear path to an A.
I am posting this to say thank you for being an amazing teacher last semester! Last semester your Physics 8 class was my first physics class ever. I originally signed up for my general education requirements, but as a result of how much I enjoyed Physics 8, I am taking Physics 9. Great class, and a great preparation for Physics 9!
Great class. I thoroughly enjoyed this professors classes, labs, and office hours where he spent extra time breaking down and explaining concepts to me and fellow students. Without this extra time, I do not think I would have enjoyed the class or learned so much. Pay attention in class and do the homework.
He's less tough than made to be, extra credit before and on all quizzes/exams + forgave some scores end of semester. Attendance is graded and exams are largely based on lecture, missing a lab = void an entire write up (-20-15 pts. roughly) and homework can be painful but you find a rhythm.
Yay! This was a great class. It was really interesting and I loved how much of it is practical and can apply to daily life.
Thanks for an awesome summer semester. It was a pleasure taking your class, thanks again for really making the experience entertaining and much less rigid than it could have been. I hope your next semester will be as enjoyable as ours was for us! Cheers and 3,4,5 triangles
Great teaching is scare, but should be recognized when found. Classes were structured to give students adequate time to understand new material and ask for help. It's made very clear on what material he finds important(thus this material will be on the test). He genuinely wants all students to do well and gives lots of opportunities to succeed.
No BS and entertaining lectures. Tests are based on hw and classwork; never asked an unexpected question. Just be ready to put in time to practice the problem types, and you are guaranteed to have one of your most fun and rewarding stem class experiences ever.
A blessing unto physics students. Straightforward with clear grading criteria. Exams match homework and notes. VERY generous with extra credit. Loves charts and 3-4-5 triangles. Lab reports are long and annoying to complete, but it's necessary for learning. Funny, sweet, patient, he wants you to succeed. Study well and attend office hours.
I would like to sincerely thank Prof Henderson for his guidance and effort throughout this semester in Physics 8. I have learned a great deal from this course, and I really value the time and energy that he put into teaching and supporting his students. I wish that he would also teach Physics 9.
I wanted to thank prof Henderson for all his guidance this semester. I enjoyed the class and learned a lot and I greatly appreciate the time and effort he put into teaching physics. Attendance is mandatory only for the labs. But your are allowed to miss one without any penalty. I would take physics 9 from him if he taught it!
