Has a high expectation. You learn a lot. A very professional and smart man. Beware! Can make you feel ignorant. I told him I would remove the stick from his ass free of charge. This class is a sure way to be challenged.

He is a fun teacher and will make you laugh. If you study the old tests and know how to do them you are set but it helps to pay attention in class. You never have to open the book.

this class will put you on your toes. if you dont like studying dont take this guy. all finals are in the lib. the only way to pass is to use the finals, and do the homework. ALL of it, and believe me, there is a lot. i have never studied more in my college career. but i got a B, and i worked for it

Higashi is an awesome teacher. I have taken his 160 class and his 1 class, and I can say he's one of the best there. He communicates everything in a clear and concise fashion, although you might tire of him repeated every new concept a few dozen times (which does help though). If you can, TAKE HIM!

He is the best Chem. teacher out there. He may go fast, but he explains after the fact very well. He jokes around alot to make you understand the concepts Some of the jokes are pretty bad. His class is not an easy A. You have to work and practice, practice, practice.

This is the first time taking Higashi. He is pretty funny, but his tests are way too hard. I don't think his lectures cover enough of the material on the test. The wording on the exams is crazy and confusing. If you don't like to work, don't take him. I wish I didn't.

His lectures were very clear , but his exams were ridiculous. If you know the practice tests well you will get an A. I am now at a university and I have never had anyone set up exams like he did. They are not representative of course material

Dr. Higashi is a great teacher who explains the concepts in detail. His tests, as previously mentioned, are difficult; however, with the previous tests on file in the library, they are easy to study for. Watch for people crying after they get the second test back. Just study and it'll be okay.

I don't know why some people make others feel dumb by saying he's easy. Higashi is no walk in the park and if you don't study, you won't pass. His old tests are great tools to succeed and get no less than a B by doing the old exams. Chem 2 class is less difficult than chem 1. Practice, practice, practice!!

Took chem 1 in Spring 05. Not an easy teacher at all and the 2nd test IS ridiculous. If anyone tells you he's easy they are kidding themselves. This is the first class where what you study from the old tests and they actually show up on the test verbatim. Not easy but this is the most rewarding class i've taken so far.

His class is NOT easy. If you take him, be prepared to do some serious studying, especially if math is your weakness. I learned a lot, but it did not come easy. He's a good looking guy and he's got a good sense of humor. He's always willing to help. ASK QUESTIONS!

He recycles some questions from previous exams (avail. at library) but will change a few things for diffferent results. Don't be surprised if he rushes through the last few chapters. Mainly formula solving, so make sure your math skills are good. If you can do the practice exams in an hour, you'll do well in his class.

Great Professor. He's no joke, but he jokes a lot and is friendly to students. His class is not easy for the average student. His lectures are like going to a show and you will learn at the same time. He isn't dry at all.

He's funny.. sometimes very cheezy though... But I think his exams are very fair.. all you need to do is study.. and learn mostly from the lectures... he may stray off topic every now and then, but he's cool...

Oh good God is test two scary. He'll tell you to practice, practice, practice and you'll probably go blah blah blah but for the love of God PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. Other than that I've lost all confidence in myself and no longer know my position in life I totally reccommend his class. Funny guy too.

Higashi is a great teacher. His class is also very challenging. Don't let anyone tell you that it's easy because it's not. His tests are long and you only have 50 minutes to complete it. Most people don't finish but he just sets it up that way to really "test" your knowledge.

Higashi's class is extremely difficult. If you r looking to just "get by" this is not the class for you. You MUST study if you want to pass. Do not blink during his lectures, you'll miss something. Believe me... His long stories tend to be off topic and distracting but pay attention b/c you'll lose him. Use his tests that he puts in the library.

Mr Higashi is the most interesting person I ever met who teaches chemistry. He is fair on grades and he gives you plenty of opportunities to get your grade up.

I took Dr Higashi for Chem 1 and Chem 2. He is a very fair guy. If you try your best you will pass the class with at least a B. Just remember to study hard for each test because they are not a joke.

This class is hard. Be prepared to complete tests within 50 minutes. So many students didn't complete the whole tests within the 50 minutes and complained. Textbook is somewhat useless. Don't fall behind on worksheets and practice questions.

I wouldn't say the material in itself is difficult, it's just the dam 50 MIN TIME LIMIT that might hurt you. I was a little unsure about him at first, but he's actually a pretty good teacher who thoroughly explains the material. Just wait until you see his dance moves! TITRATION! STANDING WAVE! WORK IT OUT!!!

this class was wayyy hard. he goes through the material so quickly and lots of people got left behind. the 50 minute time limit is ridiculous. i dont see why we couldnt have done the tests during the lab hours. he is a funny guy but the class is NO JOKE! this is not a "get by" class. if you do take the class though, you dont need the book at all.

He is very funny, he is understanding, helps you out and he isx very clear on what he is going to expect from you and if you listen and not ignore him when he says that this is what he is going to test you on then you will be fine. So, basically if he says jump then do it... Cool teacher...

HIGASHI IS GREAT!!! You MUST go to class- DO NOT MISS! He repeats himself ALOT--- FOR a REASON! If he repeats steps or a definition LEARN IT! He tells a lot of stories about his daughters- very funny! Overall he is very fair.. do your part he does his (more than any other Chem prof!)He makes chemistry understandable!

I took Chem. 10 with Professor Higashi and he was an excellent teacher; in fact, a group of us will be taking Chem. 11 with him next semester. He is very clear & always willing to help students understand. I really enjoyed his class because he was nice and entertaining. All you need to do is listen, take notes, and do the practice problems.

Dr. Higashi is wonderful!!! He is very clear and specific about what he requires. He is full of fun stories and keeps chemistry fun somehow. I wish I could take him for the rest of my chemistry classes!

I dont recommend this prof. He doesn't teach theory which helps you in advanced chem classes and all he does is math problems over and over again. You dont learn much from the labs either since he gives you most of the info. Didnt seem eager to help when you had questions and if you did, he assumed you just werent paying attn to him.

Great Professor. He is the kind of professor who stays focused on what needs to learned by the student in order to pass the class. Yes, he jokes a lot but that what makes student relax & want to learn from him. He is always willing to help students when they ask questions or need help after class. I took Chem. 10 & 11 with this Professor & got As.

Higashi is really one of the best chemistry teachers that Solano CC has. I was struggling my way through almost the entire semester, and still ended up passing. He truly is one in a kind.

Took over the summer, go everyday and take notes because it will help for the tests. He is funny and always willing to help and explain. Highly recommend him over other chem teachers except for Santiago.

This class was VERY difficult with Mr. Higashi. He just does problems on the board and no actual lecture. He skips material from the book, you need to know for the test. The tests have questions that can take up to 20 min and 20 questions, yet he times the test and only gives you 1.5 hr. Unless Chem is a strong subject for you-avoid this teacher!

This class is not as hard as the last rater suggests. Higashi offers a test bank and will only put questions on the test that were covered in these tests. When looking at the old tests, the problems take some time to complete, but after seeing the structure of the questions, answering them on the test is easy. He is also very available to students.

Give him a red nose and some balls to juggle and you can go to class and watch a clown show. His class is a joke. It is next to impossible to not get an A when the tests are so similar each year. Take this instructor if you want an easy A and learn next to nothing while listening to his comedy routine.

Amazing teacher! The lectures are so entertaining that I didn't feel like I was learning anything, but in the end, I actually remember and understand all the material. Very accommodating, friendly and intelligent. If you're not good at algebra, tests will be very hard. Otherwise, just do the practice tests enough to build speed. Tests are very long

Excellent professor. One of the best. His class is challenging, but Higashi makes the class fun and keeps it interesting. He knows his stuff. You can review sample past tests which helps a lot and you get to throw one test out. If you take the summer class remember it's at an accelerated pace, which means every 2 days is equal to a week of classes.

I took Professor Higashi for both Chem 10 and 11. GREAT TEACHER! You don't really use the book only for reference. Everything on his test is from his lectures so go to class! Higashi makes a difficult subject easy to understand and fun. Will take him again if I need more Chem! =)

I've taken Chemistry classes at UCB and City College of San Francisco, and if you're one of the idiots that complained Dr. Higashi's class is a joke, go take it somewhere else and you'll thank your lucky stars Dr. Higashi gave you a passing grade. Dr. Higashi explains a very hard subject in very easy to understand terms. Great teacher.

Dr. Higashi is an amazing, helpful, and very funny professor. The class is pretty much straight forward, the tests are based off of lecture/lab material and practice exams are available prior to the exams. He is there to help, so ASK QUESTIONS if you need help or confused/stuck! If you keep up w/ the material,study,& ask for help you should do fine

I loved his class. He did joke around, but it made the class really fun alot less tense. He also had a way of comparing chemical processes to everyday things, so it was easy to pick up and understand the concepts. DOnt miss class. You'll miss ALOT of information. He gives practice tests before actual exams, but u gotta STUDY! Overall great class.

I took Chem1 with Dr Higashi, and now am in his Chem 2 class. Let's put it this way, everyone who took his Chem1 class and passed wanted so desperately to get into his Chem2 class. It's much harder as he doesn't go nearly as slow as he did in Chem1. His tests are a bit tricky as you do need to know the material front to back. STUDY!

If you want to do well, study, study, study. If you ask him a question, he tries to avoid it so you will find the answer yourself, which can be really difficult. He helps a lot with the math, but you really need to pay attention and DO THE PRACTISE TESTS because he doesnt teach some of whats on the tests, but its all on the practise tests.

Higashi is funny. He makes a lot of jokes and eases the tension. When you ask for help, he'll try and get you to figure it out on your own, but is eventually always great at explaining things. The class itself was really difficult. My best advice would be to study on a consistent basis and DO THE PRACTICE TESTS.

After having Dr. Conrad as a substitute for Higashi's class, it made me respect Higashi's teaching methods even more. Higashi always gets straight to the point of each topic. He isn't boring and dull, that's for sure. I highly recommend Dr. Higashi because he explains a difficult topic in the most elementary view. He is definitely a role model. A+

Dr. Higashi is the best, just a wonderful teacher. He makes organic chemistry easy to understand and, if you can believe it, fun. Make sure to ask questions if you don't understand something because he'll always help you out. His summer Chem 011 class is totally worth getting up early for.

Higashi is an awesome teacher! I love his funny character and willingness to teach. Not to mention his impressing impersonations and sound effects! He puts everything into simplest terms and tries to explain it to his best ability. DO THE PRACTICE TESTS! You will succeed if you "practice practice practice". Mr. Higashi is the best teacher I have had at Solano, he broke down a complicated and difficult subject and made it simple. He truly makes the class fun and entertaining to go to. His personality is what makes the class...take chem and his class, he makes what to some people isn't a fun subject and made it one of my favorites. HE IS THE BEST!!!!!!!

Higashi is an amazing teacher!!! I always hated chemistry but I can say everyday I actually look forward to his classes. I took him for Chem 1 & 2. You need to study but he is upfront about what's on test. He will answer any questions. And he is hilarious! I love his lectures. One of my two favorite teachers at Solano!!!

Very clear for his lectures. He is actually engaged and uses the whiteboard instead of a boring powerpoint. Chemistry is boring to me, but he makes it somewhat interesting. His tests are kind of hard, but he is clear on what you need to study. No homework grade. I recommend him over Ducoing.

Awesome professor. Just follow what he says in class. Take great notes. He tells you exactly how to get an A in class and be successful in college. If he says practice it 3 times then practice it 3 times. Be prepared for some awesome dance moves too. Good luck!

Higashi is the best teacher at Solano. He is extremely knowledgeable and he is able to answer every question. He is crystal clear in his explanations,fair in grading, you?ll know what to expect on the tests, and he also makes chemistry fun. He does not give much homework but still I feel like I learned a lot in his class.

Higashi is a very good teacher. This class is not hard. However, if you are taking it with advanced classes, don't think you don't need to put time in for this class, which really isn't that much. Do what he tells you to do. Practice practice, don't fall behind. There's really no excuse not to get a 100 on every test, but, life happens.

The Hig is a great Prof. D/L his prac tests, and prac, prac, prac. Reading helps with understanding concepts. He is more than willing to help during class time. Ask about his fight with the toilet. This class is not easy if you dont practice what he says, and dont forget what you learned in the beginning of course, u'll need it for final. LabBook!!

Chem has never been my best subject, but i passed with an A because Higashi teaches you everything you need to know, exactly the way it will show up on the tests. Study hard, DO THE PRACTICE TESTS--THEY ARE EXACTLY LIKE THE REAL TESTS!!!!!

Higashi is a really good professor! He makes everyone entertained whenever he does his lectures & ties it in with funny stories or jokes. He wants all of us to succeed in our studies & helps us with all of our questions that we have about Chemistry. I really recommend to take him for CHEM001 & all of his other classes!

Amazing teacher! He is always there to help and can relate chemistry to anything. I guarantee he will make you laugh every day. You can survive his class without the book and he doesn't give homework, but when he says practice, PRACTICE! I learned the hard way. The only downfall were his tests. They were very difficult. Other than that, he's cool.

Great teacher. Took his chem 1 and than summer chem 2 course and got A's in both of them. Its not easy, It is a lot of hard work, but he doesn't leave you hanging. Prepares you for your tests by using practice exams. Has the patience to re explain complex concepts. Higashi is the best

I never understood chemistry before entering Higashi's class but he makes it sound so simple. He makes a tough subject easy to comprehend. Im currently in his Chem 001 class and I actually like Chemistry because he makes it fun and enjoyable. He tells jokes and stories everyday and relates it to Chem. Do yourself a favor and take HIgash for Chem

GREAT PROFESSOR. I have him at 8 in the morning & he just has so much energy all the time! He always makes class enjoyable and I never understood Chem til' I had him. Not an easy class tho. Professor Higashi was the best professor I've had at Solano so far! He lectures with a lot of confidence and it shows! The work is definitely hard, especially the tests, but he prepares you well. Chemistry is just a naturally challenging class, but dr Higashi has a way of making it enjoyable. I'm not sure why is he working at a community college.

8am lecture but it was definitely worth waking up for. He has a good way of teaching chemistry to make it interesting and funny. Lectures are clear and he answers any and every question you have. Tests are super tough so studying & good attendance is a must to pass!

I took him for Chem 51 and he was one of the best teachers I've had. He makes the lectures entertaining and interesting (kind of haha). He definitely will hold your attention. He explains EVERYTHING pretty clear and is always there if you need help or have any questions. I would definitely recommend him!

Wow, what a great teacher! Has real life examples for every chemical situation. He is definitely a teacher that you will learn a lot from. His tests are some of the hardest I have taken and most people didn't even have enough time to finish so practice, practice, practice. If your not a motivated, hard working student you will have a hard time.

Just finished his class today and can say he's definitely one of the best teachers I've had. If you study the previous year's practice tests and take good lecture notes, getting an A is no prob. He's very clear and repeats himself all day long so that it sticks in your head. Very funny and animated man. If you need to take chem, take Higashi!

Sensei is the real MVP. You won't need to pay attention much in class, he goes over everything you need to know about the test, so they are cake. Can get an A in his class without ever opening the book.

I took him for chem 1 and 2. Chem two was just as tough. He makes you work. I had a low B high C average throughout the semester but scored a high A on my final which brought up my overall grade to an A. You can redeem yourself in this class. Great teacher but glad I'm done with general chem.

Bruh Sensai is the MVP. You can skip class everyday and still pass the test. But in all seriousness, he prepares you well for his tests. He gives you practice tests and is always willing to answer questions. He sets you up for success. If you do the work, you will pass easily.

Took Sensei for chem 1 and chem 2, and overall he was a great teacher. You don't really need to pay attention in class until he goes over the practice tests. Tests aren't as hard as long as you do the practice tests. Labs are pretty easy except for Qual. Final is pretty easy for his class also. Just look for as many loopholes as you can........

Took Higashi for Chem 1 & 2 and I don't think I would have made it through both of these classes if it weren't for him. He teaches to the tests which makes for no surprises. He says he doesn't read these but I must say... Higashi you are great and I am so happy I was able to take your class. TAKE HIM IF YOU ARE TAKING CHEM. DON'T TAKE ANYONE ELSE!

(Gen. Chem 1) Excellent professor. Makes you work for your grade. You get what you put into his course. He wants to see you succeed, but you need to put in the work and ask him questions. Tells stories that somehow makes me remember things from the lecture. Lecture is heavy, but not impossible. Goes over concepts repeatedly to reinforce them.

Dr. Higashi is definitely the way to go. The class was a bit challenging, but he always answers questions and definitely explains the importance of chemistry in everyday life. He's very kind and gracious and ALWAYS has practice tests. He pretty much tells you what's on the test, but it's up to you to study. Get ready for dad jokes in class :D

"Tough but fair" Great professor, would highly recommend. Material is fast paced but allowed recording lectures & offered time outside class. He really wanted his students to succeed. You don't need the book to pass, but make sure you study. The tests are hard- no curve or x-credit, so redo the problems after class! He also jokes around- its funny!

He is a very funny professor. However, that doesnt mean you are a good professor. His exams were the only thing that counted towards grading which is fine but his lectures were just going over old exams rather than teaching the subject. The labs were also not explained well and many students got lost.I like him as an individual but now a professor

This was the hardest class i ever taken in my life. He is such a great teacher who is helpful and give a good lecture about subject. He is very clear about grading and tests. Just one thing i could not catch well was about lab. The labs were not so clear and had trouble connecting theory into the lab.

Dr. Higashi is by far my favorite professor. He is true to the word "fair." Although, your grade is based off exams, he is more than willing to assist and help students in preparation for the exams. He provides three practice exams that give the meat and potatoes, but it is up to the individual to truly prepare for his exams. Overall, amazing!

Great teacher!!! I am not a strong chem student but he made Chem 1 and 2 very easy to do. He gives you practice exams and problems that help with studying and are used on tests. He will answer all your questions and is very clear when giving information. Doesn't use canvas for grades. But if you do well on quizzes and tests then you will pass.

I really loved that he taught us to the test, like most professors just ramble, and then the test comes and no one knows whats on it, he tells us exactly what is on the test and what we need to study and goes over problems with us. He is engaging and a well respected professor.

Beware- this class is very fast paced & hard since its 3 classes in 1. Has a lot of dad jokes which makes the class lighter & go by quick. Theres a few quizzes that are very easy, HW will be worksheets from the lectures. 5 tests & a cumulative final (can drop lowest one). No extra credit. Textbook not needed. Really makes you work for your grade.

Awesome guy, genuinely cares about his students. Repeats himself a lot but he makes sure you know the info. And he presents it in a very easy to follow format. 90% of the class is done on MasteringChem and virtual labs. As far as chem goes, this class was fairly easy, thanks to him.

I took Doctor Higashi's Chemistry 1 class through hybrid learning. It is a great class with online office hours if people need it. I did terribly on my midterm and final but could still pass this class bc the homework and quizzes were more credit. The only thing I would say that is a negative is that I bought a lab textbook and we didn't use it.

This is the first chem professor where I actually learned chemistry. He cares for students and offers a tremendous amount of help to make sure you understand the material. The only bummer is the lecture was online through Pearson so it could get confusing. But he made sure to offer help on harder chapters. I would go with him for Chem 1

Never would I have thought I'd receive an A in Chem! Hands down best professor, knows how to teach and keeps the class fun. Says a lot of dad jokes and is very nice. There's weekly homework, modules, and quizzes, but they're worth so much, that even if you fail both your midterm & final, you can still get a good grade! Best professor ever! Weekly discussion, quiz, and module due every Sunday for the lecture portion. Labs were fun and enjoyable. Midterm and final are pretty hard but you should be good if you take time to study. Would 100% take again though, I never thought I'd earn an A in Chem! Professor knows how to teach! Higashi is the kindest professor I've ever had at Solano. He explains things well, and has hilarious jokes. There was a weekly chapter homework and quiz. Lectures are 70% of him yapping instead of teaching. Fine until the lectures don't correlate with the homework and quizzes, leading to self-teaching. Majority of the class are always absent and only show up for the labs. Labs are easy, but mostly useless. You'll do spreadsheets half the time, and he's going to draw. it. out. Just take Commodore.

Part 2: Lectures are disorganized, especially in early sem. Lectures don't cover key concepts clearly. So much so that a chem tutor was shocked I didn't know a basic, vital equation. Higashi relies too much on homework to teach students rather than bothering to teach irl. Good reviews come from non-science majors. Avoid if continuing to do Chem 2.

Sorry Higashi but Commodore was a better chem professor. I had to take this class as a requirement for a science major. Higashi is super sweet and caring, but if you have no knowledge of chem this class will be hard for you. He is good at answering questions, but is required to have a textbook and online tools!
