He's very funny. He actually kept the class awake from 6p to 9p. He made Logic interesting. It was fun. He's entertaining. I like the way he teaches.
Very sarcastic and funny. His class is simple as far as grading goes. But you do have to show up to class. That's 1/3 of the entire grade. Plus, with extra credit, you can turn a C into an A.

Mr. Holder was a very challenging instructor, but was always friendly and willing to help a student understand the material to the best of his ability. I would highly recommend his classes to any student.
Best teacher at PJC out of 54 credits taken so far!
Very easy class, at first I was going to drop because I could not understand the material but I am coming away from the class with the one of the highest grades. He is very funny and makes the class interesting. He acts tough the first day but he is just a teddy bear
Mr. Holder rocks out. By far and away, one of the best professors I've ever had at PJC. He makes sure to go over ALL the material which will be covered on the tests. The papers which are assigned are usually fun and interesting. His lectures are funny and insightful. He just completely rocks out.
Great instructor, makes the information easy to learn.
By far and away the best professor I've had at PJC thus far. This jovial nerd gives some of the most interesting and insightful lectures of any college classroom. A great teacher and a great person!
This guy is so freakin hilarious! I've only had the class for 3 weeks and i've had a blast being in his class! he really makes his lectures interesting and it really keeps me thinking AFTER the class. Hes an awesome guy and i recommend him to anyone.
Great guy and teacher. I just think the whole group project think is garbage b/c you have losers that don't wanna do anything!
Witty, insightful, thought provoking and HILARIOUS lecturn-ability! Come prepared to listen and discuss topics. It's helpful to do the reading before class discussions, though.
I loved having him for a teacher and enjoyed his class.
Professor Holder rocks my world. He's hilarious and really makes class fun. I HIGHLY recommend him as your teacher.
Mr. holder is awesome! Extremely knowledgeable, helpful, witty, sarcastic, funny and super nice. He gives lectures and the lecture notes he provides are a big help. The classroom mental exercises are thought provoking. There is a quiz almost every week, but as long as you read the assigned chapter and study the lecture notes for that week you will
He has excellent knowledge of his subject and conveys it well. I am sorry that he is constrained by the syllabus. He makes philosophy come alive when he strays.
Tons of group work, also you need to plan on being there....attendence counts has a huge part of the final grade.
Teacher is funny. Super Easy. Easy quizes. Test are easy. Group assingment is pretty lame tho. very easy on grading essay. recommend. Im not a school person. but this class is easy.
A very good teacher. Nice and interesting. Show up for class and you can make a good grade
I abolutely LOVE Mr. Holder! He is an amazing guy. very funny and makes you intrested in philosophy whether you were at first or not! Highly recommend this class
Awesome easy quizzes come from powerpoints tests from quizzes. very fair gives extra credit.
took online course. he responds to emails and grades very lenient. HOWEVER, he is hard to understand in regards to assignments. he is not very clear and at times it seemed like he was being illogical to screw with us. textbook is USELESS. it is hard to understand and doesn't match the chapter objectives. his powerpoints are better than the book.
Took online course. Could not find grades on-line.
funny teacher! the only thing i didnt like was the group project it was very hard to maintain group cooperation. gives quizzes start of every class. emails all notes barely uses book, all quiz and and test ?'s come from notes and not book. dont be scared by the 7 page syllabus! :) great teacher
Awesome Prof. Mr.Holder covers the material and entertains at the same time!
Mr Holder will e-mail you notes a few days before you actually go over them in class. His 10 question quizzes are easy as long as you at least take a look at the notes. Lectures are fairly entertaining and he will provide extra credit.
Holder is pretty funny. I had him for a night class that lasted 3 1/2 hours, but he made the time go by quicker than I expected. Lots of notes but everything is fairly simple to understand.
Took this class online. Wonderful teacher! Very funny and sarcastic. His class makes you question what you believe and why you believe it. Thought it would weaken my faith, but only made it stronger. My absolute favorite course of all the ones I've completed!
Great teacher, very helpful. I took his class online and loved it.
Mr Holder very nice man. down2earth very approachable. his 6 quizzes(online) are not hard, 2 test you need to studyonly(mid/final inclass&online), use notes. he lectures from pps. But I used text and pps to pdf. over all I would recommend this instructor. He like class participation, group assigments.Intresting class overall.Generous grading.
He's an amazing teacher. Took him for the best online experience I have ever had. The powerpoints correlated and assisted the textbook. The discussion forums were helpful for our understanding and relevant to the material we were studying. Again, a great teacher. He should be a professor soon, I HOPE!
Holder is a nice enough man, good humor. As a person, he is decent, but as a professor, I wouldn't recommend him. Book is only used ONCE, as a required reference for you Group Project. The course content is a bit disorganized and I frustrated me to no end. Holder will help you if you approach him, and is good about responding to emails.
Mr. Holder is an amazing teacher and his class is very rewarding and interesting. I look forward to his class because it truly helps to broaden your mind.
I didn't expect to enjoy this class, but Holder's enthusiasm for the subject was infectious. He keeps the class interesting with group projects and discussions. Don't bother buying the book never opened it once! He's not and easy teacher, but you leave knowing you've learned something.
He is very prompt in grading and critiquing work. This is helpful to improve current assignments. I may not ace the class, but I am learning a lot. In spite of the comments about the textbook, I floundered for the first week until my book came that I had ordered online. Spend the money!
It's easy to tell Holder is passionate about philosophy in general. He tries to teach in a way even the most uninterested parties can learn something from his class. Encourages group work by assigning a group project for the end of the term. Never really used the textbook though. He is quick at grading and responding to questions.
He is a good teacher but he also teachers ethics and with him being a philosophy teacher, he doesn't really teach ethics just philosophy...
I had no interest in Ethics, but it was required for the course I am going into. I ended up really enjoying the class because Mr. Holder made it interesting. He teaches more toward the philosophy side, but as long as you go to class and do all of the assignments, you will do fine.
I took this class online so I don't really know about the in-class experience, but the class was interesting and not hard. Mr. Holder seemed like a pretty cool guy via e-mail and he was on top of his game. It is a writing emphasis course however, so you are required to write an argumentative essay at the end of the semester.
I absolutely LOVE Mr. Holder! He made the class extremely fun and will work with you. If you have an attendance problem, he allows you to make up your absences. He is one of my favorite teachers!
By far, the funniest professor I've ever had. His Schwarzenegger impressions were hilarious! Easy class..you'll enjoy him.
I took the online class and he was the perfect teacher for this type of class. He responded quickly to any questions. If you need an elective, take this course with this professor!
Best college teacher I've taken so far. He is really interesting when he lectures and his workload isn't too bad either. He is a super nerd which makes him more enjoyable to listen to when he uses South Park and Futurama references. Great teacher that you should take for a humanity credit.
I absolutely LOVE Mr. Holder! He made the class extremely fun and will work with you. I would not recommend missing any of his classws, but if you do,he allows you to make up your absences. He is one of my favorite teachers, if not the favorite. He has a great personality and is not afraid to show it. He also allows extra credit in his class.
Strongly disliked Mr. Holder's online teaching style for Logic course. Although assigned chapters to read in the text, none of it was relevant. He taught mostly from disorganized notes. Forwarded all school announcements to elearning account that was unnecessary and treated questions with contempt. Due dates were hidden under tabs of assignments.
I had him for my online logic class and I did not really like his teaching style. His assignments were very long and the info for the assignments were only sometimes in the notes. He was not very clear in what he wanted from each assignmnet. However, he gave extra credit near the end and if you do it, it can bring your grade up tremendously.
Mr. Holder made me gain an interest in the subject, something that I had no prior interest in. The class was not extremely easy but not hard either. I really appreciated everything I got from it. Mr. Holder is definitely the best professor I have had thus far.
Mr Holder is very funny. While he may be an amazing person, his class can get pretty overwhelming and nerve racking. Class is mandatory! He does give out extra credit, but it depends. He gets off task a lot and his lectures can be very boring. I wouldn't take him again.
Holder is a great instructor and keeps your attention! He does not give a "perfect score" on anything which I did not agree with. He is helpful. If you speak in his class, he is respectful and he encourages interaction in the class. I enjoyed his class and would take it again. He is not easy but you learn the material
Avoid this class at all costs, online? In person? No difference. So not worth it! Get your credit elsewhere!
Do you like reading things you cannot understand? Love writing essays? Do you love it when you end up teaching the class??? What about being drowned in homework for an elective class?? YES?? Then this course is for you! Enjoy!
Mr. Holder is friendly but sarcastic. When he lectures, it seems he goes off track and that makes things very confusing. He uses big words that are hard to understand. However, I did get a B. Expect to read A LOT.
I was not excited about taking philosophy, but it had to be done. Mr. Holder was a great professor, there was a lot of assignments due but as long as you put in the effort you should do fine! His lectures can be long and boring, but if you have the right people in your class it can be entertaining.
the class is not what you expect it to be and gets off topic easily
He's an authentic teacher. I've read a lot about the way he goes off topic; GOOD! College is an intellectual experience, not just dry textbook reading. He discusses things that can be "taboo", especially for the south. Stimulating conversations about current issues & he knows his stuff. I've taken two of his classes thus far, and would take another
Geat guy very humerous!! Is caring and deticated
Professor holder was a very interesting guy who really cared about philosophy. He genuinely cared about what he was teaching but it was very heavy in homework. Only two papers in a writing intensive class so that was nice. lectures sometimes did ramble though
Professor Holder was very heavy on lectures and often did not explain things very well. A lot of what he said went over my head because he is very intellectual and assumes all of his students are as well. I wish he would realize that it was INTRO to philosophy so most of us had not been exposed to philosophy before.
At first, I thought there would be no way to pass this class because nothing he said I understood. If you do not know anything about Philosophy (like I did) then you will be so lost. But his tests ended up being pretty easy, and he wasn't a super tough grader. Attendance is mandatory though, so go to class!!!
Horrible. If you have a different opinion he will mark you down. Even though he asked for your opinion in the paper. Does not explain hardly anything well. Truly someone who does not care to help students succeed.
Very caring and dedicated teacher, half these reviews rate him bad since they didn't show up to the actual class and therefore complain about Mr. Holder rejecting their opinions. If your paper is on topic and you are creative in your thinking you will do well in this class. Great teacher would take again if I could.
Loved him, I'm actually taking a second class of his this summer. Pay attention to lectures! They are very interesting so it won't be a problem (Also he cold calls so make sure you are reading what you are supposed to be reading!)
Mr Holder is a great teacher And I would definitely take another class that is being taught by him.
Mr. Holder is hilarious. I never left his philosophy class in a bad mood, and I feel like I really came to understand the material because of his teaching style. My only complaint is that he doesn't manage time that effectively, but that may be because everyone always wants to talk because the material is controversial.
I'll be as impartial as I can. He can be a bit rude at times. But he is by far the best teacher I've ever had. Responds to emails about class material almost instantly. I've sent probably 50 or so.. He loves philosophy, so he's always ready to help you understand. I learned a lot in this class. Although it was reading heavy, I enjoyed it.
Mr. Holder gives plenty of feedback and responds to emails quickly. He also gives a large chunk of extra credit. The homework assignments can be tricky if you are not experienced in philosophy, but he grades mostly on participation and completing assignments on time. I learned thinking and writing skills that I will use in day to day situations.
I like professor holder as a person, but I didnt love his class. There is tons of long, drawn out homework. I ended up teaching myself most of the material via the homework, because the lectures (which are just homework review) get off topic so easily. Exam questions were pulled straight from the homework so as long as you do those youll be ok
He teaches ethics so you can understand it. There is a lot of homework and hardly any tests so your grade will count heavily on homework and attendance. Hes not afraid to touch sensitive topics which I believe is a benefit to the class.
Only take this class if you are willing to be your own teacher. Time is NOT used effectively. If you work or have a generally busy life outside of class I would NOT recommend taking Holder. You must be responsible, a self-starter, and organized to compensate for Holder's disorganization. Refer to the syllabus to know when assignments are due.
During lecture, he consistently goes off topic and wastes time. I had to teach myself mostly everything because the lectures were never straight to the point and often confused me and other classmates. Don't get me wrong, Professor Holder is a very nice and welcoming person, but I do not recommend taking him as a teacher.
Prof Holder is stuck with is politics and if you do not agree with his liberal thinking then you will pay for it with your grade. Add to the conversation agree with his thinking and do not challenge him on anything.
Professor Holder is a great Philosophy teacher. Some of the readings are confusing but if you ask him in class or contact him outside of class he will help clear ups any confusion.
Professor Holder is an exceptional teacher!
Mr. Holder is not afraid to address sensitive topics. He is willing to help support you. Amazing professor!
He is passionate about ethics and it caused me to be more interested. He expects you to read a lot and be prepared to discuss. I enjoyed the class.
Holder is very passionate about what he lectures, but has a tendency to go on very long tangents that take from class time. You'll have a set of discussion questions from the chapters each class, that you NEED to read & answer b/c they are actually discussed in class. He doesn't make you feel dumb when you get a question wrong, which is encouraging
Professor Holder is a good ethics teacher when he wants to be, but what threw me off about him was how often he would go on tangents about his own political views. I dont mind an occasional reference but there were multiple classes in a row where all he would do is talk ethics then go straight into his political views which i didnt see necessary.
He is amazing and has really thought provoking discussions. He requires you to read from the text in advance and answer the questions from the text book which is only 5 questions (not graded)because he will go over everything in class. If he calls on you and you aren't prepared it will negatively effect your grade because participation is a factor.
Proffessor Holder gives amazing lectures. Definitely passionate about his teachings! He's funny and cares about his students. Just make sure you participate and show up.
Y'all I'll be honest with you this class is hard. If you don't read the work, multiple times, & PowerPoint stuff or try and glaze through it you will not pass. This class is a lot of work. I'd wish I had taken it when I wasn't taking other harder classes. Holder is a good guy, and infuses comedy into his classes, but a challenging class overall.
I know ethics these days can be a touchy subject with certain political views, but I feel like he would always take it to the next level with his political rants during lectures. He also did not grade based on the rubric for essays! Multiple times I had to email him to ask why I was docked on things that were not covered in the rubric. Beware.
Professor Holder was not a hard professor, but I would not recommend taking this class. The class was lectures and no group work. Grades come solely from papers. Also, Professor Holder did not have good time management skills. The essays were spaced very unevenly. The lack of stimulating assignments made it hard to want to be active in the class.
Great professor! Class lectures are based from power points and the book. Not a harsh grader at all. Typical 3 essay class with a few quizzes but that's all.
He is a really good teacher who cares about what he is teaching his students!
Super understanding, had to miss an assignment due to some personal health problems, he gave me almost a week extra to complete it. Definitely cares about teaching & appreciates when you put in effort. A little slow at grading but wasn't too much of an issue for me personally.
I found myself being pretty bored and uninterested in this class. Attendance is taken at the very top of class though Holder may wait up to five minutes occasionally. He took a long time to grade our essays (three total) and I wasn't a fan of his humor. Nevertheless he was lenient with grading the papers and there's not much hard about the class.
Had him for my fall of 2024, he was very slow on grading and awful at communication. He would arrive 5+ minutes late to class about every class meeting we had. Discussions with him were unpleasant as he would always try to make someone out to be "wrong." Would not personally recommend
He is a month and a half behind on grading, so I have no idea how I am doing in class or what to improve on. I will say he is very available for tutoring outside of class.
This professor is extremely behind on grading by like two months. This makes it almost impossible to know where you stand in the class. On top of that, the workload and expectations are significantly harder than in my other classes. Because grades are delayed so long, the stress level stays high all semester.
