awesome teacher, fun and down to earth, hes VERY clear and as long as u study a little, his tests are pretty easy

he is a very fun guy and makes you want to go to class. his tests are hard but fair. all you have to do is study and show up to class. labs are more of a time to hangout and talk than to work on the lab. best science teacher i've ever had.

Great guy, he sometimes co teaches with BOTTEN. She is boring, and her tests are ridiculous. But with Howard, just study lectures notes and book. the rest is a piece of cake.

Pretty decent teacher. He does jump around a bit but keeps the class entertained with stories. If you come to class and take good notes the tests aren't that bad. Take it when he is teaching the lab, not Botten. The lab drags on and is very tedious.

Tests are very hard, not the most helpful, but a really nice guy. I echo the sentiment that he could care less how you are doing, is more concerned w/stories and bio majors. Tests do get easier as semester progresses, take him if you have to, BUT DO NOT TAKE LAB WITH BOTTEN!!!!!!!!

He is very passionate about Biology but gets side tracked by all the stories he tells. The majority of the things on his study guides are on the test. He also hints to you what'll be on the test during lecture so take good notes and write fast.

Prof. Howard is the best kind of teacher to have. The tests are only about his notes and he is a fun teacher. He does get side tracked a lot, but that just means that there is less "work" to do.

I loved taking Mr. Howards class. He was a laid back teacher that tested off of his notes. If you study the notes then you will pass the class.

His jokes are a little silly but he's great at what he does. You have 3 tests through the semester, drop the lowest one...one paper (super easy) and the lab is only 100 points out of your grade so you don't have to worry about bombing the lab quizzes. He never cancels class or is sick, but there could be so much worse.

This guy is so freakin awesome! hes totally like one of the best teachers ive ever had. Tests usually come straight outta lecture notes, and some of the time he gives u the questions to the test if u jus pay attention. loves to tell stories so class is always interesting; no hw cept for studyin. study guides suck tho, but hey, nobody is perfect =)

Awesome teacher obviously loves Biology and shows his passion in his teaching I learned a great deal in his class and he genuinely cares for his students and does everything possible to help you pass his class and do your best. This was my first science class since I was in 7th grade, 30 years ago. He made it easier to get back into. Thanks!!!

So far Mr. Howard is awesome! hes got a funny sense of hummor and he LOVES to tell stories ( makes class go by faster)... Havnt taken a test yet but i will post again later and let everyone knwo how he is

Howard is an awesome teacher... he has 3 test (you get to drop the lowest one) the final, and a very short easy research paper... Take notes and pay attention... he goes over everything thats on the test... he tells you everything that yo need to know and he cares about you learning the material... plus hes funny and HOT!!!

Don't be lazy...this class is supposed to be tough- he makes it as simple as possible. Know the concepts, and you will prevail in the exams. Read the book, take initiative, and receive your A. He makes the grade very attainable, it's up to the Student to take it from there.

Hard class! You need to study, go to class and pay attention. John is very helpful just ask. If you put forth the effort you will do well. He gives you the aswers you need, just pay attention.

He made this class fun and interesting! I hate Biology and I got an A in the class. He is really funny and very helpful. Others thought that he was HOT! You have three tests and you can drop one. The first and the last test are the easiest. The second one is dreadful. As long as you go to class, take good notes and study, you'll a B easily.

Never have I encountered a better professor! John Rocks!! I got a C, but in all honesty that was my own fault! His test are tricky but with good notes and some reading you will do good. word of the wise, Study Groups! Also don't be stupid and miss lab! its dreadful to think about staying till 9:50, but heres a secret you'll never stay that late!

I found this class to be a bit frustrating. Lectures were clear, assignment were clear. Test's were well tricky I guess. You've really got to know the subject. If you hate bio this class may not be for you. If you are in the medical field take this class.

He is a real nice guy, his jokes are a little corny, but it's hard to find a professor with a sense of humor. I reccomend taking him, he is very helpful, and he put's your mind at ease with his sense of humor.

John is such a great guy...I took his class 4 years ago while in high school and I managed to get a B easily. Not an easy class but he makes it manageable and is very personable. Would recommend but you cant BS this class.

I took another prof for this same course last semester and had to drop. Took john this semster and he is GREAT! the material is a little tricky but if you go to class, pay attention and take notes, you'll do fine. Tests are tricky but he tells you what to study. Hes very funny and entertaining. HIGHLY recommend him for 120!!

Great teacher - makes class very fun, explains everything well, grades fairly, loves telling stories. If you read the book and note what he emphasizes during lectures - you will do great on exams (even on tricky questions). Labs are not hard and lab quizzes are very easy as long as you read the labs. Highly recommended!

Not an easy teacher but a really nice guy. The class is ALL note taking and the tests can be hard. If you pay attention and study though, you can get a good grade. Labs are boring but super easy. He also allows you to switch lab nights if needed. Really helpful if you have to miss a day!!

He is kind of weird and sometimes students would ask him questions and he was like "you don't need to know that" it was kind of annoying (I didn't trust him) He likes to tell stories that sound fake.

Take notes! Great guy, Very pleasing to the eye, and a great story teller. I really enjoyed his class. Learned alot, but study hard, make sure you know the info inside and out, because he use trick questions on the tests, so know it. Labs are very fun. You can tell he enjoys teaching.

He is a great guy and has many stories to tell, but he always gives you the information you need for the tests. His tests can be difficult but his studyguides give more than enough help. Some of the labs are boring, but it happens. I'm not a fan of bio, but I actually enjoyed this class.

Loved him! Breaks up the class with great stories. Take notes and answer the questions on the study guides and you will get a good grade. Fair teacher and you can tell he likes his job. I would take his again and I recommend him. You do need to study, but his study guides are extremely helpful. The book can be used for clarity. Great teacher!

Awesome Bio teacher. He has a lot of work experience. Your grade is composed of 4 test grades and your final grade. He lets you drop your lowest test score. The first two tests are the hardest but he makes them easy to study for. Do well on the first two tests and you'll breeze through the class

TAKE HIM 4 SURE!!! By far the best bio teacher. Its a very hard class but he somehow makes it very manageable & interesting. He is 1 of the few bio teachers who hands out study guides...which are VERY useful. Study hard from his study guide & u will do well. 4 tests and a final. Ur able to drop 1 of the 4 tests. And, u ALWAYS get out of lab early!

Interesting but difficult material to learn and Mr. Howard makes it interesting. Attendance not required in lecture but tracked in Lab. You will not want to miss the lecture for test info not covered in the text book. Study guide given out prior to the 4 test given in the class. Read, attend class, take good notes, use study guide, you will do ok.

Great teacher especially for those interested in going on in the medical field. He provides study guides that are great to help prep for some hard tests! He also shares relevant experience that helps tie what you're learning into every day life. His classes fill up quickly but it's worth getting on the wait list and trying to crash it.

Must read the book if you want to learn as the lectures are just too dumbed down. Mr. Howard is a field biologist and I didn't get the impression that he knows the material very well outside of his core competence. Tests are mostly multiple choice and true/false. No essays or paper required.

This class is mostly for nursing students, so there's tons of females that know their stuff. Nevertheless, there's TONS of note-taking; he actually pauses during his lectures, so you can REST YOUR HAND - who DOES that?!!! His lectures are full of hillarious stories, but you have to read EVERYTHING in the textbook chapters, just to PASS. No joke.

John Howard is passionate about biology. He is a great teacher. Sit in the front row, pay attention, and you he will make the semester worthwhile. Lectures are fun and interesting. Tests are based on study guides. You must read & prepare, he is tough, and GREAT, and he expects you to do the work. I learned a lot and it stuck with me.

Prof. Howard was an excellent instructor - passionate about the subject and very engaging at the podium. His labs were interesting and fun. 4 midterm exams, can drop lowest mark. 4 lab quizzes - not terribly hard and they count for 25%. No homework! He also provides study guides for exams. Not an easy subject but I highly recommend Howard!!!

MR. HOWARD IS A COOL TEACHER. LECTURE CAN BE KIND OF BORING BECAUSE ITS CHEMISTRY BASED BUT HIS SIDE STORIES ARE INTERESTING. TAKE HIM.

Loved this class because of John Howard. He is passionate about biology, his lectures were interesting and fun. His grades were fair. Study guides were helpful for exams. He is fun and funny and I highly recommend him if you can get him.

Dr. Howard is great! He's old school, no power point, just white board notes and the occasional overhead. FYI, read the book, it will help! Lab is relaxed, our table brought dinner every session (pizza, subway, chipotle, etc). I had him 2 semesters ago and all the curriculum he taught has been prevalent in the classes I've taken thus far.

Howard is entertaining and usually has a good story to go along with whatever is going on. a fair amount of material that is on tests comes from taking class notes. lab is fun with howard. to be successful you must take class notes. read the outlined sections and study both. he is fair, doesn't take roll, drops one test, and a 78 will get you a B!

He is a great teacher. tells funny stories to keep the lecture light. Lab is always easy, been out before 10 every week so far. He's awesome i highly recommend him.

Great teacher. He is very entertaining. He allowed us to use an old edition of the recommended text.I had zero interest in Bio before taking his class and he made it interesting. Keep up with the reading, read labs before class and GET IN A STUDY GROUP then you might do well. Not the easiest class ever, but he makes it worthwhile.

With this professor be prepared to take notes, he lectures and that's it. No assignments or group projects, or papers. it listening and reading. Start studying from day one. He makes the class and lab fun, he is very energentic and passionate about what he is teaching, students going into allied health care field he is a good teacher to take.

Really easy as far as Bio goes. Easy going teacher. Teaches really slow for you to take accurate notes. Tells good stories. Entertaining and easy content. NO HOMEWORK. Labs are not even checked or graded. Pretty much show up and you are good. Tests are pretty tough though. You need to understand the content but it's all (tricky) multiple choice.

I love his lectures because he applys them to real life. Be sure your there. Take good notes & read your text. He let's you eat & drink during class. Be involved with feedback. Tough but enjoyable!!

Active duty here and my first time in a college environment in 5 years. Teacher is entertaining but test are tad bit tricky so understanding the material is a must . lab attendance is mandatory but lecture is not. If you are an allied health major I strongly recommend taking his class.

3 tests (lowest score dropped) and a final. Listen, take notes, read, do extra research and you can get an A. If you flake, don't study or read the textbook then that's the kind of grade you are going to get. I suggest recording class/Lab lectures it's crazy what you hear that you missed the first time! Tests are very tricky so study hard!!

Great professor but he is tough! If you are a allied health student-take him! If not-don't go there-pick a professor to slide by with. He is funny and lectures are long but he gives you time to write (I recommend taping his lectures) tests are very tricky! You must read the text chapters! Go to class or you don't make it! half the class dropped!

Amazing professor! Very nice and helpful. Heavy lectures and requires a lot of studying for test. There are 4 or 5 test, including midterm. He gives out study guides but they are not to helpful, his lectures are what you need to focus on. Take notes! The book also helps out as well. Only one homework assignment throughout the semester. Lab Easy A!

Definitely a challenging class but he teaches the material very well and gives you exactly what you need to study for. I'm not a bio major nor do I really enjoy biology but this class became interesting. If you're in the medical TAKE HIS CLASS, he makes it so that people in the field are prepared for whats to come. Challenging, but doable.

Mr. Howards lectures are very good, he also recommends to read the textbook, labs are so easy with him. if you would like to perform really good in the exams, you need to attend the whole lectures and labs and lesson carefully to what is said. Professor Howard is a great instructor, if you are looking for an easy A you won't find it here. Don't miss lecture, take good notes everything you need to know for the exams is in the notes, the book will help you get a better understanding. He drops the lowest grade, don't bomb the first one because the 2nd is the hardest then it gets easier

Excellent professor and the class is actually not bad or that hard. Just make sure you study well and use flashcards and youll be fine. There was alot of lazy students who didn't even crack the book open or would require other students to basically hold their hand through it. If you don't take time to study, don't take this class.

The professor is great! His lectures are very detail oriented, labs are fun and not too long. He does gear a lot towards those going into nursing. I think it shows how much he cares about his students success. He truly teaches to what is important for your future success. He is reasonable and helpful. Highly recommend taking him!

Mr. Howard is awesome! He is perfect if you are going into the allied health field. Pay attention to his lectures and his stories. The labs are fun and short, he does have lab quizzes but they are easy. If you are thinking of going into the Nursing program, you must take him.

Alot of the people complaining are those who simply refused to study and at least open the textbook. Everything you need for the test is in his lectures, dont miss class as this will save you alot of time. if you just study and put alittle effort into it, youll get an A

Professor Howard is amazing! He gears his lectures towards those who are moving on to the health professions, and doesn't waste time on extra material. He doesn't assign busywork. Take really good notes in lecture because he basically outlines what he wants you to know and nothing more. 3 midterms, 1 final, 4 or 5 lab quizzes (True or false).

4 quizzes, 3 Midterms, and 1 Final. Quizzes and final are each worth 1/4 of grade and 3 mids worth 2/4 since he drops 1. Aced all his exams, B's on his quizzes and got an A. He gives you everything you need but you need to understand the concept and how it works, notes won't suffice since youll mishear him so make sure you make friends in the class

No homework, but very test heavy. Most test are based on his lectures, so take very good notes.

Great Professor! If you want a good grade, go to lecture. Lab is super easy and he makes the time enjoyable. 5 tests and your attendance to lab is your grade. Study hard if you want an A.

I just finished Bio 120 with John. It is true that it is hard to get a B but doable! I work full time and only has time to study at night and on weekends but I still did it! His stories are fun! If you dont study or pay attention to class, you will fail. No homework, 4 midterms, you drop the lowest and 4 lab quizzes.

I took professor Howard during covid, I maintained an A the entire semester. He had 4 lab quizzes: T or F only 10 questions. 3 exams and final but drops the lowest exam. My lowest grade was a 84%, I did not study too much 2 hours a week if that. He was very funny, wasn't hard grader at all, and provided study guides. Exams are only 50 questions.

I just have a hard time applying myself definitely an easy A if read and study dont steady u wont pass. Just show up, listen,and read your text book. Grading is good 3 test lowest one dropped 1 exam and I believe 4 quizzes. He is really fun guy as well interesting to talk to has a lot of good stories

He is a very old school teacher, he does not use canvas. He gave 4 exams, couple quizzes, and 2 labs on an external website he provides. When he lectures, he will let you know the which key points are on the study guides and exams. Read the textbook and attend his lectures. Overall he was a good professor and definitely a jokester!

He gives very good study guides, but it's a good idea to read your text book. The questions he asks in the tests are discussed in class. He is approachable and cares for his students. He doesn't give homework. The students who struggle in his class are not reading and studying enough. The professor gives his students all the tools to succeed.

He is an amazing professor who is extremely passionate about his study. Such a nice guy, very personable and is definitely willing to go out of his way to help you. He will tell you everything you need to know that will be on the tests! Best college professor I've taken without a doubt. Working over full time and taking this class with ease.

Professor Howard was great. He really cares and loves what he does. It's very important to go to lecture and to read the textbook. The only things that are graded are exams and quizzes but as long as you study and show up you will be okay. If you want an A you will have to work for it but he gives you all that you need in order to do so. Take him!

He is a great professor, but you must read the textbook. There are only four exams and quizzes in the grades. The quizzes are easy and only consist of 10 true false questions. he will drop your lowest exam, but plan on that being exam two as that is the one with the most chapters.

Laid back chill professor. But you are kind of on your own in this class. Labs and lab quizzes are easy. The midterms are quite difficult. This class is a gen ed and for nursing majors but the midterms median for this semester was pretty bad to say the least.... Good class overall and no rounding or curving just FYI unless you are super close.

John tries to build bonds with everyone and has a good heart. His exams are tough the quizzes are a breeze as long as you go to lab. lectures are not bad however I learned the most from watching YouTube videos ( not the ones he suggested) and he teaches right out the book. good professor just do your work and you will pass.

This professor is amazing and before taking his class, I doubted if I was even passionate about going into the medical field. However, this professor is very passionate about helping those going into nursing and I ended up loving it and wanting to learn more. He doesn't give homework--just reading assignments, and his labs are very interactive/fun.

Prof Howard runs a tough course, but provides helpful study guides. Attending lectures and reading the textbook are musts. unstuckstudy proved a game-changer for my test prep. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding class.

Best prof ever I would take him every semester if I could. Intertwines personal stories with his lectures to make it fun and engaging. 4 tests total and drops the lowest. 5 lab quizzes total and as long as you pay attention and read the manual you're good. some random questions on tests, but he normally grabs them from an obscure textbook sentence

In lectures he will make you take notes on the chapters based on the textbook although sometimes he reads off of them. It's not impossible to pass this class, and the professor is caring and would always try to interact with his students.
