John Hsiao is a teacher that I would recommened to people that really want to learn and have fun in class. Mr. Hsiao is the only teacher that would email and call the students to keep them on task. I still send papers to Mr Hsiao because I know that he will take his time to see me improve my writhing.

Helped me improve my grade from an F to a B in the class. He's really good. He's also our age not like those weird professors you can't talk to. He tells you what's wrong with your writing and how to fix it.

I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. because Mr. H happens to be one of the best professors I have had.From the beginning he came across as an understanding individual it was apparent he took great pride in his professionVery few professors show genuine interest in their students.

It has been great to see a Teacher with the passion he has. What I have learned from his class is a lot about myself. One of the most important things I have learned in class is to organize my papers. I think the workshops we did on paragraph organization were very helpful. I enjoyed most of the stories that we were required to read.

Mr. H would elaborate on a topic and then listen to what we would have to say about it, in an open discussion type way. I was able to see topics from many different points of views. The class is one of the best English classes I have been in. Like the readings he chooses for us to read and the different places we get to go on field trips. Most teachers would take us to places that relate to English. You take us to places where most have never been or probably would never go. I also enjoyed the readings, especially AOTC.

Prof.Hsiao will make you work, but he does this to help one overceed our own expectations. Push you to your own limits. Mr. Hsiao might seem like a hard professor but really he is not that bad. He is open and willing to listen to his students and goes beyond that classroom with activities. He put in a great deal of effort to make his students better writers and though at time he picks on students he is really just trying to be funny.

Lots of time wasted with elementary grammar exercises; this is a college level English class? He sets a good atmosphere, surely, but the class is only as good as the students who participate. I was blessed to have a great class and we learned much from one another. Spring '09 was absolutely grand.

This is one of the hardest classes you will ever take at Cerritos College. Prof H is very passionate about English and community but he thinks the world revolves around his class. We did so much work that it made my other grades suffer. He is a really good teacher but be ready to put in some hard work!!

Besides Traeger Hsaio is one of the most difficult professors this side of the Humanities. Cares and loves his job, you can tell. Professor John is really cool. He cares a lot about the students and is very dedicated in his work. He may seem like a difficult teacher at first, but hes really not.

Worked hard for all that he has and expects nothing different from his students. Came off as an jerk, but in the end he really has a real intent to make you a better writer. Towards the end however he seemed checked out and really just gave us group work.

Hsiao made us better writers He worked hard to make sure we understand what we were doing Hsiao was heavily involved in community service and worked with students so students could do well. He brought in speakers and was connected with services and we also were part of a club!

Worked hard for all that he has and expects nothing different from his students. Came off as an jerk in the beginning, but in the end he really has a real intent to make you a better writer and citizen. Towards the end however he seemed checked out and easier in grading WOULD TAKE AGAIN

Favorite English professor I've had. I took this class the beginning of college, and I do not regret it. Professor Hsiao's ENGL 1301 course at Houston College (where he also teaches), and he has become my favorite professor of all time. He's super understanding and caring and is overall just fun to talk to and learn from. This class is very discussion-heavy during lectures, but it's mostly in small groups. Participation matters a lot!

Overall, this course isn't particularly difficult; Hes always happy to enjoys his job and is gosh darn funny and, therefore honestly got some leniency on assignments. However, there were quite a few major projects like 3 12-1500 word assignments, couple small presentations, and midterms and finals. Would take again though also handsome

This was my first class after years of not being in school, i freaked out when i found out it was an accelerated class, the group activities where easy and fun, got to learn everyones name. The class had 3 essays but nothing complicated,

Summer Bridge several several years ha! Despite the lack of experience I was still able to understand what it was I need to do in order to complete the assignments. Professor provides tutor videos that are step by step for each assignment which makes it extremely helpful. There was help from the embedded tutor, along with the groups you are in! YAY

Teaches really good and class is very interesting. All exams and quizzes are things he's given for homework, easy study guides for tests (HW and Lecture notes for Midterm Final). Very organized and you have to go to tutoring once a week.

He gives handouts that summarize the main topics of a chapter and then explains it to you for the quiz or short response. All you have to do is take the test write an essay and do two extra credits for each unit, and two writings and you'll pass the class RECOMMEND PROF HSIAO!

I was stuck in a huge mental rut and wasn't doing any of the work at one point in the term, but after reaching out he helped me pass the class when I thought I was doomed.
