What Students Say
“All you basically have to do to succeed in this class is: Show up to class and take notes (will help with remembering how to do something for homework - which is given every class but is usually very short - and when studying for a test), turn in classwork and homework, and do the study guides (almost identical to the tests)”

Has a great sense of humor, fair to students, teaches topics thouroughly!!
Confuses himself which therefore confuses students
confuses students easily. understands what he is doing, cannot explain
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO EXPLAIN WORK ON PAPER: HE JUST DOES AND DOESN'T SAY HOW
doesn't always explain things very well
Confuses easily{both himself and us}.Students have to correct him constantly.
Easy paced class, goes over homework problems. Confusing at times. Nice guy.
confusing, hard to understand lesson, makes mistakes a lot,
Very funny, makes alot of mistakes on board but this forces us to pay attention!
Very confusing. Not too sure what he's doing. Dropped class.
He doesn't belong teaching at the college level, I don't think he belongs teachi
The guy is a complete doofus. He is worthless. DO NOT take his class. Doofus....
Total Goofball, easy and makes you think. Extra Credit is nice
Good teacher

I saw some of the other messages. Just a "cope out"
A good and fair teacher. Explains well.
I learned more from him than any other math teacher that I have had.
This is my third try at Math 110, and I finally passed !

He helped me see real life applications of math.
Best math teacher I've had!

tests are directly from the book, and goes at the pace of the class
Very confusing, sometimes messes up in class, almost a waste of time
Smart guy, cannot teach, messes up, tests not graded properly etc etc etc
Unless you know Algebra, forget about learning it here. He won't help you.
Messes up a lot....gets side tracked easily....gives lot s of extra credit
great teacher and class
most easy class and teacher i have ever had. Nice guy but so easy.
Super easy and I hate math, he means well, he tells funny stories, he struggles
Goes very fast, if you don't understand it it's easy to be left behind.
confusing at times, lots of extra credit, hard final, fast paced at times
Easy class, uses book problems for exams
EASY!!! He explains things very slowly.
Easy tests if you review the study guides
I HATE MATH, BUT PULLED AN A. Show up for review days.
great guy, a little absent minded but overall it was a great class

If you don't already know the math you aren't going to learn it in his class

a great guy!!! Class is not bad at all. Just keep up with the homework.

easy A if you do your homework; tests and quizzes only had 10 questions!!
super easy, very boring though goes over everything over and over, too boring
boring but very helpful and easy...uses probs from book on tests
Easy if you pay attention!
must already be good at math to understand what he is teaching
Very easy and a nice teacher
always mixes up problems, very unclear, must be good at algebra to follow along.
if you are not good at math or enjoy it, stear clear of this teacher.
Boring and mixed up problems all the time, I wanted to jump out a window!
Easy, explains things very slowly, gets confused at times, but nice guy
very slow and srews up all the time so just read the book. can be funny @ times

classes are short, but boring. study your stuff

Gets himself confused, but class is so easy. It's a joke that it is required.
Best advice ever given to you will be to not take this class
He ALWAYS messes up the problems on the board, he confuses himself AND me! Avoid this teacher at all costs!!!
He tries really hard and will help you out... but seriously, the man needs to retire. He gets so lost.
Im almost at a loss of words when it comes to describing my frusterations with this teacher . He messes up on problems more often than he gets them right. He then asks the class how to do it because hes confused himself too much.Dont take the class w/ him
Oh my gosh! this man gets lost on the WAY to the board. I can't even describe what happens with a dry erase marker in his hand. Run, emmigrate, whatever you have to do, just leave while you still can!
This guy doesn't know what he's doing. Would probably tell you that 2+2 = 55 if you asked him and he would not realize that he made a mistake until you told him. I don't know how you can be expected to do well on a test that the teacher can't even pass.
WOW!! this class is rediculously easy! i mean seriously he is kinda a space-case but if you can add you will probably do just fine. He gets lost adn confused a lot...so dont pay TOO much attention.
All I can do is laugh at all these comments because they are so true. This guy can't even copy a problem out of the book and onto the board without screwing it up. The whole class is basically the students correcting the teacher.
I think he does just fine. I think half of the time he is just trying to make the class fun for everyone.
i should have gotten an A in this class but the man can't teach. he needs to retire. I didn't do as well as i should have because he made so many mistakes when teaching that i didn't learn anything. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS W/ THIS MAN
Yeah, he's a little scatterbrained at time but he's a nice enough teacher. The class itself is very, very easy. If you can add or subtract you should be able to get a high B or A in this class.
This man is nice guy but cant teach at all. It gets so confused and cant do anything without messing up.
He's a nice guy but he fumbles at your head like a freshman pulling at a panty girdle.
He is hilarious and coming to class isn't that bad (for a math class). if you pay attention and put in some work you should get an a.
This class is an easy math class. Theres no way anyone should get less than an A or B. If you do fail then your to stupid to be in college. You have to go to class to get the quizs, but there usally easy quizz, u can work in groups.
Little scatterbrained. He's a nice guy, but not one you really want to approach with questions. He's a big fan of quizzes and groupwork.
He is too scatterbrained for me. I was astounded by how much he confuses his own self...Luckily, I made it through
very easy class. he messes up a lot and students are always correcting him
Goes off on wild tangents about his kids, for seriously like 15 mins. The class was so boring that it was hard to make myself go. Tests are ok, cumulative final.
You don't always have to be on time for class, just come towards the end to be there for the quiz. Class is pretty easy although he does tend to mess up...a lot. I'm not gonna lie, it was hard to force myself to go all the time.
get's himself confuses a lot...Nice guy, but not the clearest teacher out there
Always get out of class early, but he's very boring to listen to
Well, he does confuse himself a lot, like everyone on here says...he really seems high-strung or loaded on caffine. Slow-moving. Not a very chllenging math course.
Great guy. I have him for the second time this semester. He makes math comprehendable and keeps it simple. He's not hard, but you learn a lot in there not having the stress factor playing into your studying. Definitely recommend him.
Sooooooooo easy. If you know how to do any type of algebra here is an A. He gets confused A LOT and stumbles, he is a little weird, and he is a sweet man. I never once paid attention and got an A like that. If you're not sure about math he probably wouldn't be very clear.
Very nice and understanding teacher. Class is very easy but also very boring. Hard to make myself go every week. Easy quizzes and groupwork ( book can be used ). Easy to make up points.
He explains things kind of well, but takes too long to teach a topic.
VERY EASY CLASS!!! He is a good teacher, he explains everything. He gets confused often. The quizes, tests and group works are all easy!! No reason to not get an A!
i actually enjoyed this class. well, that may have been because i remembered a lot of the topics from HS... but yeah, he does get confused a lot, students often have to point out what he did wrong, but he had these funny little tendencies here and there that were highly entertaining. good class.
Very easy class!! I have had over a 100% most of the semester. He gave out over 50 pts. extra credit. I didnt study much at all. He does confuse himself sometimes, and he enjoys telling stories about his life. Take him if you want an easy A!
He's such a sweet old man, but he goes off on crazy tangents about his kids. The lectures are mindnumbingly boring, but the tests aren't that hard if you study. He doesn't grade attendance, but there's usually an in class assignment that you can't make up.
Very easy class. Does assigns homework problems to go along with section reviewed in class but is optional- sometimes gives E.C. for the homework done. Very clear and thorough on explanations in class; can be a little boring sometimes, but he adds some humor to the class as well. Recommended.
He is very monotonous and I slept through a lot of the classes since it was early in the morning, but it was prety easy to teach myself from the textbook. When you do pay attention, he gives a lot of good examples, which is a great way to learn math. Pretty good prof, just boring.
Very sweet man. He gets confused sometimes and goes off on tangents about his life and his kids. Funny guy. The class is really easy. Homework every class and a quiz or group work but they are open book. Gives lots of extra credit so its easy to make up points. Overall easy class.
This class is decent if you have had any background in algebra. He seems unsure of himself at times, but he tries his best to help all of his students succeed. He gives out a lot of extra credit, so failing this class is impossible if you do the work.
Sweet old man, but seems to confuse *himself* a lot, as well as the students. OK class if you've taken algebra before in high school. Gives tons of extra credit. He's not so bad.
Very nice person! Very helpful! Class is not that bad. Grades all homework. Tests are not that bad. Gives plenty of extra credit. I was special ed in high school and passed with a B. I didn't even work that hard. Take him!
A really sweet man,but a little confusing when taking notes. He goes over plenty of problems though,so you have lots of examples.Group work or quiz every day,so you have lots of opportunity to maintain a good grade.Grades homework.
Sometimes he makes you wonder if he even knows what hes doing. But since I already learned the stuff in HS I didnt have to rely on him that much to teach me. Lots of extra credit so just do it from the beginning and you will get an A+ easy.. You have to do you homework but its all easy so just dont slack
he confuses himself all the time. He says the wrong things and mixes up the students. The students have corrected him and he confuses those that are having a hard time. He also doesnt do a good job at teaching the materials and he assigns homework on things that we did not cover.
Wow, probably the most uninteresting teacher of my entire life.
Doesn't really know his stuff too well, and isn't very good at teaching it. Talks to his students like we're in elementry school and confuses himself a lot. I've found the best way to learn material in his calss is to ignore him and read the book.
I think he's a great prof! Goes over homework so you know where you made mistakes and can learn from them. Willing to help with any questions or problems you have. Plenty of quizzes and extra credit. Gives you every opportunity to ace this class.
He's a nice and occasionally funny man, but only because he often gets confused and will take forever incorrectly solving a problem. His age works against him.
Ohh John Jones...definitly interesting. Helps with homework...but thats it. Very unprepared for class. Some times can't answear the homework questions. Thats sad.
Oh people, he's not that bad!! At least he's easy, willing to help you, and occasionally funny.
Comes to class unprepared sometimes, and cannot answer questions often. But on the plus side offers many extra credit points, and goes over any questions you have for homework.
This class is so easy. He is very helpful, lots of extra credit. The only bad thing is, he is confused 99% of the time. My class corrected him about 10 times a day with mistakes he made when doing problems on the board...finally he started giving extra credit every time we caught a mistake- lets just say about everyone in my class got some.
lol, this prof is clueless in a way that just makes you laugh! turn in homework, take advantage of the extra credit, do the test reviews because the test questions are very similar and you should be good to go!
Prof. Jones was.. interesting. At the beginning I really didn't like him, but he did grow on the rest of the class as semester went on. Tests, Finals, and midterm are incredibly easy as long as you DO THE REVIEW!

This class is so easy, but I could see it being difficult if you don't understand the subject matter. Prof. is very unhelpful and goes off on tangents during class and it's near impossible to pay attention. He does offer a lot of extra credit however.
What can be said about John Jones. He just lives in his own world and makes things up as he goes along. Lot's of extra credit, so take advantage. I did. I should have gotten a C or C-, but in John Jones Land, I get an A!!!! Thanks John.
Oh man, funny old man. Likes to talk about his grand-daughter. Also his son's dating life. He's about as hard to follow as his handwriting is to read. Luckily, he gives out lots of opportunities for points and there's rewards for regular attendence. It's a dull class and he's a dull guy. Read the book, get together with friends, do extra credit.
hes a funny guy, but is confused 99% of the time, so the class basically teaches itself. tests are open book and open note, and he does offer a lot of e.c., but dont take him unless you know what you're doing, or are prepared to teach yourself.
Prof. Jones is a good guy. Like said before, all tests, and quizzes, are open book and open notes. He gives extra-credit almost everyday (2 points, usually). He doesn't talk about his family anymore. He's a harmless guy who fumbles occasionally, and can be boring to listen to- but hey, how exciting is math? Just do the hmwork and go to class.
John Jones is the BOMB...this old man cracks me up especially with his espanol. this class is so easy. open book/notes for tests/quizzes. i currently have 16 pts of extra credit! take this class with him. You wont go wrong
This guy was awesome. He's a little weird, but hes definitely got a heart of gold. Show up, take notes, do the work, and he'll take your effort into consideration with your grade. There is plenty of extra credit too.
He is a very nice old man. He says funny things occasionally that will take you off guard like when he starts counting in Spanish. He lets you use your notes and book for tests. Gives A LOT of extra credit. Downside is his class is boring and don't take him if you need a prof. who can explain the subject very clearly.
hes good guy who will make you laugh , then cry, then sing in joy, all in a days work, this man.... he is the chron amongsts all these other downtown james browns, ya feel it? i got an B ish grade but i didnt try to hard in beginnning
Prof. Jones was seriously the best math teacher I've ever had. Yeah he can be crazy at times, but you can tell that math is his passion. You are allowed to use notes and your book on tests/exams..and he gives extra credit everyday. By the end of the semester I had a total of 78 extra credit points! Definetly take him if you have the chance!!!
He can't teach for anything. I knew Trig fairly well before I took the class and if anything I've gone down in what I know. If you don't do well in math don't take his class. Thankfully he gives out extra credit for stupid errors he makes on the board, only way I passed the class with a decent grade.
Prof Jones speaks quietly and slowly. He is easy to get along with and his classes usually don't go the entire time. It is easy to get extra credit as well you just have to pay attention and he'll give you points for correcting his mistakes. I liked the guy alot.
He isn't very good at teaching, but he gives a lot of extra credit. If you have problems with math, i definitely recommend the math lab.
I loved having him as a teacher! He gives tons of extra credit. Good teacher but you have to show up for class.
He is very nice, but he is hard to understand sometimes. I was never very good at math in high school, but I ended up with an A in his class. He gives a lot of extra credit so it is hard not to get an A.
Super-duper boring class. BUT, very easy. He gives out a ton of extra credit, so it's impossible to not get at least a B in the course.
Not a very interesting teacher, or interesting class for that matter, but we have to take it. He's a funny guy, and he means well, he just doesn't explain the material very well, if at all. It's not a very hard class to fail because he's not a hard grader. Plus, you have the ability to get AT LEAST one extra credit point per class.
This class was a joke! He may have previously allowed students to use their book/notes on exam but he did not do that for my class this semester. He gives students points for pointing out his mistakes on the board, which trust me are a lot. Shouldn't the teacher know the material well enough that he doesn't make such constant mistakes?
a really terrible teacher....not interesting, gives bad examples...horrible point system for grading tests. guaranteed to put you to sleep. guaranteed to help you fail math.
This Prof. is awesome! He may be a little 'slow' but he is such a nice man and will give you MANY chances to boost your grade if you're doing bad. I should have failed but he gave me a C to pass. If you just want to pass, TAKE HIM!
Take Jones for MTH 110 if you want a guaranteed A. I had the class 3 days a week and skipped one day most weeks. Many chances for extra credit; tests are all handwritten :/ Not a very good prof; I just read everything out of the book and did the homework. Over 100% easy.
He is a very nice old man, but probably makes a better grandparent than a teacher. Only take his class if you already know the material because you're not going to get a thorough explanation from him. Daily quizzes but you can turn them in whenever. Tests are generally easy. Only take him if you are better at math and don't want to go to class.
he gives so much extra credit its ridiculous i had like 35 extra credit points this semester... you can use your book for every quiz you can use a note card for every test, we were given a whole page front and back for the final, great teacher!!
John Jones is the man and everyone should know it. He's not the best teacher persay, but he's awesome and funny. I loved going to class because i knew it was gunna be fun. gives out a lot of extra credit and you can use notes on tests. favorite professor by far
Regardless of what anyone says, he's a good guy. I had him for both MTH 122 and 123. 90% of homework comes from the book. There are lots of opportunities for extra credit and even though his jokes can be a little corny I still find him humorous at times. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!
Extremely easy class! He gives so much extra credit I had a 106% before I took the final. He doesn't teach very well, just a few sample problems from the book but otherwise, a great class. The quizzes everyday were frustrating at first but they got better as the semester went on.
Best math teacher that I have ever had. Class is easy and I believe that he explains everything well. Made going to math class fun. He's literally the man. I strongly recommend him!
He is decent. He explains things pretty well and he is kinda cool. I am not a fan of his tests, and he gives waayyyyy too much extra credit.
He is a very nice guy. He gives a lot of extra credit. His tests can be a little difficult if you don't look over what he says before the test. He explains things pretty well. Overall I wouldn't avoid him but I wouldn't go out of my way to have him again.
easiest class every. I did not participate at all and did not pay attention. Just do the homework and it prepares you for the exam without studying. With all his stupid extra credit I had a 125%. Kind of pathetic.
Jones is really nice and knows his information but doesnt know how to teach it. Gives alot of extra credit and homework assigments are easy. I would take him if you have backround in the class.
Jones is ridiculously boring to listen to in class. He sounds almost like George W. Bush. If you're looking for an easy A then take it. He gives extra credit away like candy and the class isn't hard to begin with.
Good teacher, easy to follow along and A LOT OF EXTRA CREDIT! He gives it out daily, like every time you correct him. You have a quiz everyday but they are really easy and eventually turn into extra credit.
This guy seems like he's on heavy medication or something. Always confused. Can't really explain anything. Don't bother sending an email, he has no idea how to use computers (tests are handwritten). Overall though he is a kindhearted person whose willing to help improve your grade. I saw him running on campus one time... Just had to feel respect.
Super nice and caring guy. However, he is getting up there in age and it is beginning to show. He can be forgetful at the board and gives out an enormous amount of extra credit. All in all I enjoyed his class, but I feel like I could have learned more.
he is precious and has his bits of humor. SO EASY! gives a ton of out extra credit so take advantage of that. I got 103% in the class and would take him again in a heartbeat!
He doesn't care how late you turn in your hw as long as you eventually do it. The hw is cer short. Gives lots of extra credit
This guy is a BOSS! He does his math like he does his women. Right to the point with some minor mistakes. He lets you pick up his slack and gives you points for doing it. Very good class and if you can focus long enough in this class to pay attention, you will pass. Math in general is boring not the prof.
Kinda boring at times, go to class study your homework and you'll pass for sure. Easy A if you ask me. Tests are pretty simple. Would def take again
Very nice guy! Very easy class. Gives out a lot of extra credit. Take him if possible!
Probably one of my favorite math teachers ever. He is pretty old, but he teaches really well and he is always willing to help students out. Gives out a lot of extra credit and only a little bit of homework every day. Very nice guy, really enjoyed having him as a teacher. Tests were easy as well. I definitely recommend him.
The class is breeze but everything is still learned. You will never find yourself stressing about this class, but you will almost never not know what is going on. Very effective professor and quite a great sense of humor, too.
Extremely helpful, flexible&Understanding! Got a good grade without doing hardly any EC.Hes very patient and as long as you show up do the hw assignments you should be fine. There is a tutoring center right next to his office but I recommend going to his office instead of the tutors they can be a little impatient at times. Great guy overall!
I was freaking out about taking this class, but with Prof. Jones it is not that bad. He gives a lot of extra credit and really does a good job of explaining things. I would recommend taking his class if you have to take a STATs class.
He is the best professor I have had here! Teaches well and always willing to help. Extra credit is so nice. I have learned lots from him and was not difficult. Do the work everyday easily and get over 100%. He is up there in age but is adorable.
Very nice man! Goes over everything you need to know on the tests. As long as you pay attention in class you should do fine in his class. He is very helpful, if you have a question don't feel scared to ask!
He as very helpful if you had questions, I never felt like he didn't want to help. We started every class period answering questions we had on the homework. We even got to use a cheat cheat on the tests.
Jones is such an easy teacher! If you do your homework, take good notes, and go to class you have no reason to not get an A. He lets you use your study guide and notes during exams, which mimic the exam except he changes the numbers. He is also very helpful if you have a question and is good with emails. Wouldn't take stats with another prof!
Awesome professor! I was scared going into the place and the class was a breeze. Pay attention and go to class and there should not be a problem getting a good grade! He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities!
If you are horrible at Stats take him! there is a guarenteed A in this class. Only a few problems of hw and he doesn't look at the work you just get credit for doing it. No quizes, the tests are exactly like the review, same questions different numbers. Take him!
Jones knows what he's talking about in his head but he definitely doesn't know how to show it at the board His age is definitely showing and can be boring at times.
Professor Jones is always willing to help you out. His class can be boring at times, and sometimes it is hard to understand his teaching, but he makes up for it with all of the extra credit he gives. He gives extra credit almost every day! Always be prepared for a pop quiz, but he usually lets you use your notes/book/neighbors to help you out.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! He may not be clear at times or know what problem he should be doing, but he DEFINITELY makes up for! He's a cute old man, I'm horrible at math but I got an A. Tests are exactly like the homework, homework is minimul, and TONS of extra credit! If you want an A in math, take Professor Jones.
GREAT PROF! He is a very cute nice older man. He enjoys teaching and understands when you miss class, always lets you make things up. You can use notes on quizzes and notecards on exams. I haven't taken math in a couple years and I still got an A. I recommend him all the way!
Gives a lot of chances for extra credit and lays out exactly what will be on exams. He class got boring a lot, but didn't really care if you were on your phone or anything.
Easiest class ever, overflowed with extra credit.
Professor Jones is one of the nicest professors I have had at GVSU. He is kind, patient, and you can tell he just honestly wants students to do well in a course that is generally difficult for most. I am awful at math but I actually enjoyed this class because of Professor Jones!
Professor Jones is such an awesome guy! I had this class at 9 a.m. yet never really minded having to go! He is so helpful and down to earth. You can tell he really cares about his students. He gives a lot of extra credit and makes the class so easy!
Really good professor! If your not good at math in general, take him! There is tons of extra credit and other ways of gaining points!
John Jones is a legend. Take stats with him
John Jones is the sweetest old man. His class is very easy as long as you pay attention. Weekly quizzes, class assignments, and homework. For testes he gives you a review that is the exact same besides the numbers for the test. Easy A and super nice professor. Would highly recommend him.
Not very helpful and his directions aren't clear, but his class is very easy. He gives you review sheets before each test and the questions are almost identical to the tests just different numbers. Easy A.
Easiest class at GVSU. Very sweet old man and super nice. I plan on taking him alllll the time!
Such a cute old man! He explained the material extremely well and went over any questions you had during class. It's hard not to get an A in this class, just do the assignments, show up for class so you don't miss quizzes and do study guides for tests. I would recommend this professor for any math student.
Professor Jones is a great professor. He is always willing to help you out. He is the sweetest guy. He makes sure his students understand the information. His exam are fairly easy. I would highly recommend him.
Class is very simple the study guides are pretty much the exact exam problems. He gives a lot of homework but goes over the answers right before you turn it in so you can fix your answer before turning it in and he doesn't care. He also gives out 10 plus points of extra credit after every exam. I had 335300 going into the final.
Always looking to help, tests are easy if you pay attention, and homework/classwork are graded lightly. Homework points are worth the same as test point, so if you get your homework and classwork done and do well on the tests, should be an easy B+ to A.
He's the sweetest guy ever and is always willing to help you. Homework and classwork is easily graded and the tests are all mostly open book or open notes. Sometimes he'll provide a study guide that is basically the test. There's also extra credit opportunities all the time. If you turn your work in and follow along it should be a pretty easy class
Easy class and he is a sweet old man that makes funny jokes.
Jones is might just have been my favorite professor yet. He has literally saved my grade in the class just by me asking. Math is no easy feat for me and the content in the course was a nightmare, at least for me. This being said, if you asked, he would deliver. One of the nicest guys ever. His tests are hand written 10 easy questions. Love him!
I loved Jones for MTH125 (Calc). he understands this isnt your only class, and assigns only a few problems. He does class work as well to bring home what you learned. The best part is that your homework, classwork, and tests all count the same score. he also offers tons of EC to help you pass. If you dont pass with him, it is your fault.
Mr. Jones is a very understanding and kind individual. He slows things down if he needs to, offers extra help if you fall behind, and is understanding if a personal issue conflicts with the class. If you miss anything, it can be made up in office hours. Plus, you can use your notes!! If he was not my professor, I would have done much worse.
One of the most genuinely kind hearted people i have ever met. He's always holding out his hand for anyone and offering help. We do classwork and homework and get grade by how much you get right, but he is always willing to help you understand. He teaches slow so its easy to keep up. If you don't pass with an A then you didn't go to class.
Good Professor makes a lot of jokes in class. Pretty easy going and The review sheets are very similar to the exams
He is a good and organized and structured math teacher but has a boring personality.
Really boring lecture and personality. Easiest A I've ever gotten. You are given 2 review guides for every exam, that are word-for-word the same as the exam with different numbers. Even if you don't understand what you're doing in class you'll pass the exams. Go to class and you will pass, he makes it easy to understand concepts. GREAT PROF.
Great math teacher! Always willing to help after lecture, after class and during office hours. Offers extra credit periodically. Gives review sheets right before exam that favors the test which is really helpful! Three test and one final and homework each night.
Very easy to pass as long as you do the homework. If you don't understand it, he is willing to help at the beginning and after class or during office hours. Gives a test review and if you study the test review, you can get 100 percent on the exam. I would highly recommend him!
I am a junior at GVSU and have never written a review for a professor, but Jones is the man and deserves it. He's not going to just hand you an A, but he truly cares about each student and seeing them succeed. I hate math and have never been good with it, but he helped me understand it with no issues. Take him, he is the best prof I've had.
Professor Jones is a really funny guy. He is an older professor so his lectures are slow but that makes it easier to understand. He shows you how to do different math problems so you know how to do them. His tests are exactly the same as his reviews just with different numbers. Jones is an awesome prof and he makes 122 easy.
Professor Jones was a great professor. He showed examples of how to do each problem before giving out class work and homework. Also, he provided reviews that were exactly like the test, so if you do them it's impossible not to pass the test. Ive never been that great in math, but he made it so easy and understandable. Would highly recommend.
He is a cute old man, he has basically no lesson plan on the syllabus so each day was a surprise as to what we were going over, none of the class knew what was going on, but at the end of each class he assign a couple classwork probs and the homework. gives study guides before each test and it is literally the same as the guide. take him so easy
He is a very straight forward teacher and teaches you exactly what will be on the homework and classwork (which is at most 5 problems). One test is open book which is so helpful! He is always willing to answer questions. Also, he gives lots of extra credit! Take him!!!
JOHN JONES IS THE MOST LIT PROFESSOR OF ALL PROFESSORS YOU ARE TRULY MISSING OUT IF YOU DON'T TAKE HIM. I ended with a 116.9% in this class because of all of the EC. Also his study guides are word-for-word the same as the exams but with different numbers. Write ur study guide on the cheat sheet and you will get 100 or higher on every exam.
Professor Jones is great. He only assigns a few homework problems a night which are useful in reinforcing the concepts covered in class. He also gives extra credit and study guides prior to exams that are very helpful. Take Professor Jones if you can!
AMAZING professor... if you get the chance to take trig with professor jones do it. This was probably the easiest class i have EVER taken in my entire life. I seriously dont know how anyone could not end up with an A in this class. Show up, do the homework/classwork, do the study guides and thats it. study guides are litterally the same as the test
Great professor, would defiantly take again.
Professor Jones is so caring, funny, and he is very knowledgeable! The first test, I didn't do too well and he emailed me personally for an extra credit opportunity. I ended up with over a 100% in the class because of all the extra credit. He also lets you use your phones on the tests/final and its open note. Would take again!!!
Amazing class! He makes his own math book and it's really clear to follow along with. Tests are simple and everything is easy to understand. He's always willing to help and he hands back all papers! He is pretty old so sometimes he can be a bit forgetful but it didn't bother me at all! Great class!
Learn by doing example problems, homework every night and graded the next day. Tests have new material on them each time. Grading is completely unclear. be on the lookout for mistakes!!!
Professor Jones was overall a great teacher. Explains new material carefully and thoroughly at the start of each class period. Always offers help, and is very down to earth when you visit office hours.
Grading is completely unclear and all over the place. Note outlines are all handwritten and difficult to follow. He doesn't explain concepts thoroughly and gets frustrated when you ask for help. Gives small amounts of homework every day. Tests are identical to the exam review so that's good. Makes tons of mistakes grading and on exam reviews.
All you basically have to do to succeed in this class is: Show up to class and take notes (will help with remembering how to do something for homework - which is given every class but is usually very short - and when studying for a test), turn in classwork and homework, and do the study guides (almost identical to the tests).
Prof. Jones is a very nice guy. He is pretty old, so he can be a little slower at times. I found his teaching style to be very effective, he goes over specific examples, so you know how to do the material. He is very willing to give extra help when needed. I was able to complete all hw in class. Exam Reviews very similar to actual exam. Great prof.
Professor Jones was a very sweet, caring professor! He was always available if additional help was needed, and very understanding about missing assignments or class. The study guides were nearly identical to the exams, and a formula sheet was provided. If you show up to class, complete the homework, and study the reviews, this should be an easy A!
Good prof! He is older, so he moves slow & you will occassionally find mistakes in his assignments or work, but he always resolves any issues. In class work & HW assigned every class, but offers a lot of extra credit & allows redos on most assignments. Reviews are identical to every exam. Overall an easy A!
The exams are nearly identical to the review sheets. If you do bad on an exam he will give you the opportunity to earn a lot of those points back. There is classwork and homework assigned every class period, so while attendance isn't mandatory, it is recommended so you don't get behind on classwork. I would take him again.
Ok prof, is a little forgetful and may mess up every once in a while. Overall, class and HW , super easy! HW is usally 10-15 problems, can find it on BB, so no textbook needed. Makes his own problem sets for in class work and HW. HW and tests are very similar, so if you know how to do the HW, you'll do pretty good on test. Exam was easy!
This is as easy as math can get. The homework is easy and you can get it done in class almost everytime, along with classwork. Hes not the best at teaching but he makes sure everyone knows what they are doing. Tests are literally the same exact thing as the review sheet. Also offers easy extra credit. Easy A. Take John Jones he was awesome.
Jones was fine. He is just kind of losing it. He is not very organized in the way that he assigns homework or very clear on how it is actually graded. No textbook needed because he uploads pdf of a seemingly homemade textbook (odd). He is not very good at clarifying or answering questions. His hearing is also very bad so he talks loud.
Disclaimer - I took calc AB in high school so this class was somewhat familiar to me. Prof. Jones supplies us with his own free pdf textbook, and on the homework he will give you points just for trying. Having a ti-84 plus ce in this class will give you an advantage. Class was 30-40 minutes of going over homework, then an example. Easygoing!
This class was EASY. All you have to do is attend lectures and do the homework. He offers a ton of extra credit. His study guides are JUST like the test. His lectures are short and simple, so I would suggest getting a tutor if you want extra explanation. Hes helpful as well. Great professor!
Classwork and homework everyday, quizzes every week, and he does a lousy job teaching things, he's really too old to still be here. He also marks off way too many points for forgetting something as small as a negative sign or to put "inches" after the answer
There is a ton of homework, classwork, and a quiz every Friday. He never lectures, you basically teach yourself everything. He is also a very tough grader and is not clear on quizzes as to what he expects. For a beginning math class, I wish I would have had a different professor. Also handwrites his own textbook without clear explanations.
John Jones was my favorite professor this year! He made math so easy for me, when it has been so difficult in the past, helped me outside of class when I needed it, and was always willing to go out of his way to help me and all of his students. He is the nicest guy and the class was so easy because of all of the class time you get to ask questions!
Horrible. Very confused. Doesnt provide any equations for anything, he just provides his own way of doing it and expects you to use that. Very little help is given, the textbook is handwritten and hard to follow. He also is never accurate with grading, he often gives zeros for completed work and takes weeks to change it, if at all
Prof Jones isn't an ok professor. Some of his teaching is a little weird & he will explain how to do certain concepts on the board, but then the homework is a little different. There's classwork & homework everyday & quizzes every Friday. He marks off points if you don't label the X & Y intercept or even put a negative sign, but I liked him
Lectures are hard to follow and often incoherent, you'll end up having to teach yourself the material or ask him for extra help. Classwork/Homework every day with a quiz each friday. Textbook is handwritten and also hard to follow. Grading is harsh at times and inconsistent. The material itself is easy enough to teach yourself though.
John Jones is a nice old man who moves very slowly and makes math INCREDIBLY easy. He has this "homemade" textbook, which is a bit strange but works fine. He tries to incorporate activities and stuff to make the class fun. Sort of felt like a high school class- but in a good way. I'm terrible at math but was able to excel in his class. Take him.
Easiest class I have ever taken at GV. He offers so much extra credit that at the end of the semester I could miss 70 points on the final exam and still receive an A. Lectures are a little disorganized, but you can teach yourself a lot of the material. I finished his 6 week online class in 2 weeks.
During a pandemic when its rather easy to work with students online, Professor Jones keeps assigning homework over the weekend. I'm fine with this. I'm not fine with the fact that I sent an email explaining how I am unable to print the homework and all he replied was "no" when I asked if there was a way to work around this. Now I'm forced to drop.
As long as youre comfortable basically teaching yourself, youll be fine. Short homework assignments everyday and tons of extra credit. He takes it at a very slow pace so its not hard to keep up, but if you struggle with math, hes very unclear and usually I just look things up afterwards.
While this Professor is fairly easy to get along with, his communication skills outside of class are almost non-existent. From one word emails to forgetting to grade assignments, you have to basically teach yourself the information and then find out when he is most likely at his computer to receive an assignment/email. Unfriendly when called out.
Good lectures. Quizzes based on what was covered in the lecture.
Professor Jones' calculus class was one of the easiest math classes I have ever taken, he also gives many many many chances for extra credit throughout the semester. His lectures are a tad bit slow and sometimes a bit hard to follow, but good besides that. Be prepared for 2 easy quizzes per week which will be taken right after the lecture.
I enjoyed this calculus class, he is a really nice guy, struggled a bit with technology at the start of the semester, but by the end he had it figured out.
Good guy but not the best professor. Disorganized but the class was so easy and there was hardly any work, just a short 3-5 question "quiz" after class. He was a lenient grader but if you're taking a harder math class I probably would recommend a different professor. He's great for 110 though because it's pretty easy even if you're bad at math.
Professor Jones is super nice and explains thing pretty well. There isn't too much homework, just two 10 question quizzes per week. He gives a lot of extra credit so you can improve your grade even if you do bad on a few quizzes. Overall he is super nice and I would definitely take his class again!
he is so very nice and offers so much extra credit. just get ready to teach yourself the material
He explained everything elaborately. Goes at a slow pace.
Super easy class, however, Prof. Jones has trouble explaining the material well. Class ended early every week and this left you learning the material on your own. Patience is required during this course, and pain will occur sitting through lectures. Both quizzes and homework were graded on the same scale at 10 points each.
Prof. Jones is very nice but he is not the best teacher, I did not learn very much in this class. Each class period there is an in-class quiz going over the content that was just covered and is pretty easy. Offers a lot of extra credit and the course itself is relatively easy.
His class was extremely easy to pass. Professor Jones gives many extra credit opportunities and chances to redo quizzes and classwork. Quizzes are take home and the final exam was open note. But he often was disoriented about the material and taught us stuff that didnt even relate to class. If you wanna actually learn go with a different prof.
Professor Jones is one of the best professors I've had so far in my college career. He is older and such a sweet man. Sometimes his explanations are difficult to understand and apply to the homework, but if you ask him he will work with you one on one to make sure you understand.
Professor Jones is a really sweet older man, but because of his age he can be hard to listen to and understand in lectures. His course material was some of the easiest math work I have ever done. He gives the answer keys along with the homework, and as long as that does not get abused, he wont take it down. He also offers a lot of extra credit.
He is very very old, I'm just going to put that out there. He does not really explain what he is doing when teaching, he more so just starts writing things down and expecting you to follow. He is very sweet and truly cares about his students, but if you take this class do not really expect to necessarily learn much.
The professor is a little outdated with technology, but somewhat makes sense of what he is teaching. He's going to start talking, so expect to take notes right when he starts to write something on the board. Most times, I was able to get classwork and homework done in the class period, which was a big bonus.
Very sweet old man who cares. Although very unorthodox teaching style. Has an "Old school" style in todays age to teaching. Only thing in the grade book is 13 individual quizzes. If you mess one up... no going back. Great guy but wouldn't want him as my professor.
His lectures are structured around doing practice problems in class... personally, if you do the homework and pay attention in class, it's quite easy to learn the content. Attendance is not mandatory and he is pretty forgiving when missing quiz days. Overall, really chill even though it is a tad boring.
One of my favorite professors last semester. The class was so simple, that I hardly had to worry about it, he was very helpful and clear with his teaching. There was so much extra credit, even tho got 100% on my exam, it would bring my grade down, because the extra credit got my quiz scores so high :) would DEFINITELY recommend taking his classes
John Jones was by far my favorite professor last semester! He would teach in class and everything he taught would be on the weekly quizzes! The quizzes were so easy and basically the same as the notes and he let you use notes and your computer on the quizzes! He gave so much extra credit as well! Always got out of class early too!
The class was super easy Prof Jones did a couple problems on the board for notes and then you did extra credit problems each day. You have quizzes each week but they are exactly like the notes and you are allowed to use your notes on them as well. You even get let out early as well. Overall an easy class and an amazing professor!
I had Professor Jones for Math 122 and he was very understanding of things if students had a problem or a question. Math is not the easiest for me, and he gave me words of encouragement at the end of class to keep on going because he could tell I was working hard. That has stuck with me ever since! He's a very nice guy.
He gives you so many options to succeed, extra credit at the end of every class ending every week with a quiz. As long as you show up and listen you will pass with a good grade. 100% would take again.
John Jones is a very sweet old man. we used a text book sometimes but it was online for free. His teaching is not the best and class is just him doing problems on the board for us to copy down as notes but over all the class was easy. There are lots of extra credit opportunities and no homework. Definitely take him if you have the chance!!
he is by far the best professor I've ever had, gives extra credit every week, easy quizzes, and an easy final, everything is open-note
Professor Jones makes this class a breeze with open-note quizzes and plenty of extra credit opportunities. The lectures are straightforward, and unstuckstudy ai is a great study tool alongside the free textbook.
This class was too easy. Didnt study once or do homework as its open note, on final and on quizzes. Its really hard to hear him and sometimes he doesnt answer questions correctly but a really nice guy and funny. This dude needs to buy a yacht and retire instead of being stuck in a classroom.
He is the sweetest man in the world. The lectures may not be super informative, but he is always there to help if needed. The only things graded are weekly quizzes, but everything is open-note and any additional homework completed is extra credit. He was sick for the last few weeks of the year but still tried so hard to be involved. I love him!
