Dr. Jones is the best on campus!!!
If you like to stare at a guy with a camaro mullett, listen to the voice of frankenstein for an hour and a half talk about New York, and having your confidence in your writing skills shot to hell, then take Mr. Jones!
Bad lecturer. Says uh about 20 times a minute. But he grades tests VERY EASILY. I didn't even have to try hard to get an A.
Even though he says uh every 2 seconds and his lectures are really boring,I think he is still HOT!!!!!!!
Was boring when he lectured, but all in all he was a good and caring professor.
IF YOU DON'T ALREADY FEEL BAD ENOUGH ABOUT YOUR WRITING SKILLS THEN TAKE MR JONES
Dr. Jones will not give you a grade unless you deserve it. If you really want to improve your writing skills and are willing to work then you should take his class.
Good sense of humor. Grades hard but not sadistically. Ditto on the mullet and Frankenstein, though.
He drives me nuts!! Uh... Uhh... Ummmm.... I counted one day and in 30 minutes he said those words a HUNDRED times!! Never talks about what's on test. Totally abstract thoughts. Didn't learn a thing.
Dr. Jones is one of the best teachers I have ever had! I base my entire schedule around his classes! He is a bit tough, and if you aren't a good writer then expect to struggle!! I would recommend him to anyone, just be prepared to earn your grade!
Dr. Jones is sooooooo hot!!
Great teacher! Has a very in depth knowledge of the Romantic period (Blake, Shelley, Keats...). Great personality, too. Very helpful to his students and very friendly.
Good professor. Grades hard on the required essays, but is easy on the eyes, so I guess it's a trade-off.
Pretty good prof. he definately knows his stuff. if your willing to put forth the effort hes an awesome teacher.
How can anyone handle sitting through this man's class? He is as interesting as watching paint dry. I love romantic poetry, but he does not make it interesting.
I thoroughly enjoyed the class. He is a little boring, but fun when you get him off subject. If you can write and pay attention in class, then you will do well. Everything on the tests are covered in class
I love Jonesey!!!!! He is a wonderful prof. and a joy to be around...
Dr. Jones grades hard, but always is willing to help. Can't wait to take him next semester for EH 102. If you struggle with writing composition then take Dr. Jones.
Got my first B on an essay in his class. (always made A's) Seems to grade kinda hard on essays and exams. Is very nice and wants to help though. Although he can be boring at times, I think he does actually have a sense of humor. Plus, he is a total hottie if you ask me.
He is a nice guy but he is soooooo boring. Oh my gosh i could hardly sit there for an hour and a half. He needs to move around and crack a smile. It was bad.
awesome
good teacher

He is very helpful and nice person. He can be boring, but he likes people to speak up. He is my favorite English professor I've ever had. I would recommend him to anyone.
This was the best english class ever.
He is RUDE and does not want to help anyone. I already have a hard time in this subject and he has made it twice as hard. He expects everyone to be at his standard in this subject. I guess he forgot that everyone is not here to be an English Major. Oh yea and if you do not want to be talked about don't leave early. GOOD LUCK!
Way more interesting than I thought an English class could be. Learned a lot about the writers and about writing.
Makes you work hard, but if you do you will learn a lot. Very helpful if you have questions about your writing.
If you want to improve your writing across all subjects take this class with Dr. Jones. My grades in both history and math improved due to what I learned from conversations with Dr Jones about essays for this class.
You'll work your butt off, but you'll learn a lot.
This guy is a joke. I took him for 204 and had to drop. His reading assignments are ridiculous. Assigns no less than 75 pages each class. I didn't even make it to take an exam, but I couldn't keep up with the readings (especially Eng. Lit.) He's probably okay if you're taking 12 hours; not okay if you're taking 18. Did I mention he says 'Umm!'
Defiantely not my favorite teacher.
Dr. Jones is a really good teacher. His writing critique has helped me alot..and i hate writing. There is alot of reading involved, but it's not so bad. He talks with you on a friendly basis. I recommend his honor's class...it's just as easy as any regular course, but wth fewer people!
I loved his class. He was helpful when I need advice on a paper, and his lectures were interesting and full of random stories. He makes you work, but it was well worth it.
SOOOOOOOOOO boring..does not stick to one topic, he has no personality and he is kinda obnovious
Dr. Jones is my absolute favorite professor. I have to say that he has completely changed my college career. He can get off-topic, but it's super fun. He's fairly difficult, but if you work and pay attention, you won't have any problems. If you want to actually learn take his classes (esp. 101 & 102 if you want to improve your paper writing).
At first, I completely hated this man, but he got better throughout the course. However, if you're feelings are easily hurt by criticism on your papers or if you don't typically include a lot of description in your essays, I'd probably suggest that you look for a different teacher. Dr. Jones seems to enjoy writing all over our essays in green ink.
I dreaded his class at first, but it has turned out to be great. His class is extremely easy if you're good at writing essays. I believe we wrote about 7 essays throughout the semester. If you're terrible at writing, however, you should probably take a different class.
Loved Dr. Jones. He is one of the best professors I have ever had. His class is hard for students who struggle with writing essays, and attendance is mandatory. You are only allowed 3 unexcused absences during the term. He tends to get side-tracked during groups discussions but overall he is a great teacher.
Dr. Jones is a very knowledgeable professor. Although he was very interested in the topic, it was very hard for me to stay focused. We didn't do anything but lecture. Also, you must buy the books and if you miss a class, make sure to get notes!
Dr. Jones was kind of bored but his jokes were funny. i really didn't do much. I hated class.
Overall a good teacher. I would recommend this teacher.
He is a pretty good teacher. You can't miss class though, and he can come off as arrogant at times. His test are kinda hard. Must study!
Professor Jones is an amazing teacher! However, if you do not enjoy writing essays, I do not reccommend this class because that is all you do. He is very picky about blunt when critquing your writing. He will always help you the best he can and truly cares about his students. He also loves class discussions so always come to class prepared!!
Doctor Jones is a nice guy, but entertaining.. NOT AT ALL. The class was boring, but there is no real reason to pay attention unless he's discussing as essay. Does NOT take late work. A little strict on grading - only take him if you're a fairly good writer. I came out with an A, but it was well earned. The class is very easy few essays little work
Dr. Jones is a nice guy, and a pretty good professor as well. His class is very straightforward and simple. He can seem a little nit-picky when grading essays, but he is trying to help you develop as a writer. The class is boring, but the plus is he doesn't mind laptops. I sat and played games most of the time since the lectures are pointless.
Dr. Jones is very boring and uninteresting teacher. He rambles on about off subject things for the entire class and when you ask him about how to study for the tests he just tells you to study everything you've ever discussed. Definitely not my favorite teacher.
Very good teacher. He grades hard, but it's really good advice. Attendance is required as well as books. I would recommend him if you love writing, and if you're good at it.
Jones is an awesome teacher. He makes class enjoyable because he is funny and not very strict. You have to put forth effort, but he's a fair grader. Definitely take him. :)
Dr. Jones is a nice, funny guy, and would be a great professor in a higher English course. However, I do not recommend taking him in a beginner course. He assigns a LOT of work and can be very nit-picky when grading essays.
I took Jones for my first two semesters of English Comp. His class is old fashioned sit-and-discuss lecture. This can make things boring. He absolutely loves to ramble on. Essays are graded very closely. He studies the whole message of your paper, and will argue your logic. It's very difficult to receive an A on those essays. Quality Professor.
I studied with Dr. Jones for Romantic Poetry and History of the English Language. I am originally from north Alabama and he is from New Jersey, I believe. He was difficult for me to listen to, but he was a very friendly and helpful teacher.
He's really funny and helpful. He grades his papers very strictly. Make sure you take notes and don't put off doing your papers.
Do not take him. He goes over the same thing in every single class. He has a very dry sense of humor. I did very well in English all through high school and I received a C in his class. Your only grades come from the papers you write and he grades them very strictly. Be prepared to sit through the entire class' because he uses every second and more
Dr. Jones is an overall good professor in the English department. Attendance, hard work on essays, and at least some interest is needed to pass this class. Dr. Jones is also strict on grading each essay that is assigned during the semester and expects students to engage in group discussion, or awkward silence will ensue.
Bless this man. Very monotonous, boring teaching style. But he's so helpful and so kind, and knows so much about the Romantic poets and their history. He's a wonderful person, and he's incredibly fair with grading. He just needs to spice up his classes a bit. Even I had trouble staying interested sometimes. Take him if you want to learn a lot.
He gets off topic a lot, but he really does care about his students.
Make no mistake, Eh204 is hard -- near impossible if you don't attend and pay attention. However, I very much enjoyed his class. He has a great personality and is a good teacher. Take notes, read everything he talks about in class, and review often. If you do that, you'll have no problem in his class.
Dr. Jones is VERY boring and monotone. It is very difficult to understand what he is talking about because he speaks this way. Also, he grades his papers very HARSHLY. Make no mistakes in this class, because you will fail.
Lectures about the reading assignment all class. Is prone to get off-topic for about 20 minutes. Assigned two book reviews and two exams all semester, only grade. If you're good at organizing a paper and can understand that concepts of the reading assignments, you're good.
Dr. Jones only gives four assignments for the semester: two book reviews, a midterm and a final. He is not very clear on the requirements of the book review so he gave me an F on the first one so I had to drop the class. His lectures are very boring and monotone. I do not advise taking him.
He is so monotone that I had difficulty not falling asleep in every class. I love reading but he manages to take the enjoyment out of every piece of literature that we read. Unless you enjoy being bored and listening to rambling I don't advise taking him for this course. Oh, and don't take a cookie cake to class!
Contrary to what some people have said, Doctor Jones is very student-friendly and an intelligent teacher. He is very monotone, but he works very hard to make the material understandable. His class wasn't the easiest, but I found him to be a fantastic teacher. P.S. Don't bring a cookie cake to his class, it makes you look like a child.
Dr. Jones is probably my favorite English professor at JSU. His lectures can be a bit boring at times, but he can also be really hilarious and endearing. He's the sweetest man ever, and gives great feedback to help improve your writing. The writing assignments can seem tough, but ask him for advice and you'll really sharpen your writing skills.
I hate to leave a negative review for Jones because he is a genuinely nice person and he's passionate about literature, but teaching is just not his calling. His lectures are long and boring, he gets easily distracted and goes on tangents constantly, and he is very picky when it comes to grading. There are also very few opportunities for points.
Dr. Jones is very long dry and boring. He is also very hard to understand and speaks way above my head. He is a nice person but hard to learn from. He also grades VERY difficult. I always make A's and B's and he gave me 2 NC's. Expectations are too much for a basic class.
Dr. Jones is very monotone, but he really cares about the topic. He wants you to succeed but he's not going to hand you an A. You have to really work for the grade you want. He only has 4 grades all semester so you have to know what you want going in and work toward it from the beginning. It would be impossible to play catch up after a bad grade.
Dr. Jones is a very nice man. He is boring and sometimes rude, but he has good intentions. I put in hard work, going to the writing labs and could not get above a C. Grades very tough. The tests can be easy if you study. It felt like any and everything I did, every time he found something to criticize in my papers. I wouldn't take him again.
Very tough grader but gives good feedback and is willing to help whenever needed.
I actually like John Jones. His class can be little boring because he has a very montone voice and he lectures A LOT, but he is a fair grader and he gives good feedback. He also has very dry humor. he is willing to help and answer questions. DO NOT BE AFRAID OF HIM.
Dr. Jones is honestly a great professor. If you have an appreciation for literature then definitely take him! you have to read quite a bit in his class, but you only have to write two book reports and you only have a midterm and final. There are no extra assignments and the readings are interesting. Follow up 219 with 220!
Worst professor at JSU.
I worked so hard in the class, and I continued to get NCs.
I enjoyed Dr. Jones class tremendously. You have to read a lot, so if you dont like reading I wouldnt recommend this class. You will have 4 grades- a midterm, a final, and two book reviews. You have to work hard for good grades, but an A is not impossible. He lectures for the entire class time, so be ready to take notes.
Dr. Jones was clearly knowledgable in his field as he talks way over students' heads. He often went on tangents and I felt he did not spend enough time talking about things that were relevant to his tests, which were entirely discussion questions. The course was graded on two book reviews, a midterm, and a final. He does not post grades to Canvas.
Very Very Very difficult professor. Grades your papers very strictly. Gives "No credit" and his test are very hard. You have to write out your answers on the test and no multiple choice! I beg you NOT to EVER take this professor.
Hes really not that bad honestly. He does lecture everyday and hes kinda hard to listen to because he is very monotone. He does give you definitions and the test are short answer written but if you ACTUALLY study youll be fine. His essay grading criteria is a little rough but its nothing you cant get used to plus he lets you revise w/ help.
Dr. Jones was an amazing professor. 10/10 would take his class again. His classes are a mixture of lectures with discussions both in class and online. Midterm and final are both essays but prompts and expectations are very clear.
I really enjoyed this class and the topics presented in the essays. Be aware that he will talk about current issues A LOT. Most of the prompts have some tie into a debatable topic, but he does not grade you poorly for an opposing opinion. He is very entertaining and he would always make the class fun with his small jokes and stories.
Nice man. I would not recommend him for an basic level English teacher.
Not a fast grader at all. Tough grading rubric, doesnt give much feedback making it difficult to pass. Wouldnt take his class again.
