Dr.Karonika is great! I've taken him during the summer and now on-line. He is very open to student suggestions. Always gives one extra credit assignment, and his tests are basically from the text, if you read you'll do fine.
super easy course!!
His material is easy, just one major marketing plan due at the end of the semester is "hard". He gets irritated easily, so try not to ask him questions alot, unless you REALLY need to.
mark 4363 and 4389 at the same time. online classes. got A in 4363 and A- in 4389. test and hw straight out of book. project that needs to be submitted online very easy
Just do the projects and you are guaranteed and A!
Took the online class and made an A. There are open-book quizzes every week and he drops the lowest. 2 major projects are not hard. The first one was a breeze, the second one requires more time because there's so much info to include. Fun class and you will learn!
You really have to earn your A in this course, so don't take it if you're all about an easy 'A'. The quizzes are online, very easy, but the projects require work. They are group projects, and the instructions aren't 100% clear. I wish they had been a little more structured. However, you do leave this class feeling like you learned a lot.
Took him online for Entr 3312. Horrible experience. The only reason to buy the book is to do the quizzes. Thats it. Waste of money. If you ask him questions, he is very very unhelpful. 11 Quizzes (one dropped), 2 projects, and 2 peer reviews. Projects are VERY extensive and take a TONS of time and work. He grades relatively easy on them, however.
Easy class; all online; quizzes are easy but make sure you get a good group or else you will not make an "A". You get a cool certificate when you take ENTR 3310 and ENTR 3312. The key is find a really good group that work together on the two projects.
This is an online course. There are online quizes, the lowest one is dropped. There are two major team projects. Make sure you state what each member has to do, our team had a horrible experience with a couple of people, they wouldn't show or do the work; however, we got to grade them. Its an easy A if you keep up with the work.
dont buy lil black Intra. book. must buy other books for quizzes and concepts for projects. 2 extensive group projects. please meet up with your group before you make it official. know everyones grade goals and work ethic. projects very time/work consuming but also very open ended/creative based. he does grade them easy if you just have everything
most important thing is to pick a good group, which will be hard b/c 7 ppl are assigned to one group. follow instructions carefully for the projects. the hardest part of courses is the quizzes. one attempt, drops the lowest 1.comepare answers w/ team b4 submitting.nice prof responds very quickly to emails. online class. you need 2 texts for quizzes
This class was online so attendance didn't matter except for the first day for syllabus. His quizzes are easy and his projects are also easy. Make sure to pick a group as soon as possible and take with friends. Be responsible and keep up with everything and its hard to make a bad grade in that class :)
Not worth the risk. If you get a lazy team, you'll end up with a boatload of work, stress, and disappointment. John Karonika is not a real educator. He gets paid for you to do his job. He's just a smart man with his doctrines who manipulated his way into this job. This class destroyed my immune system. You've been warned.
This class is pretty straightforward, and that is "follow directions." No exams period!!! 2 major projects worth 20% each, 2 peer reviews worth 20% each, and 11 quizzes (drops lowest one) worth 20%. If you don't like exams, take him. Class isn't horrible, but get a good team who are willing to work.
Professor is most attentive I've ever had for online course. Will respond to emails immediately. 2 Team projects are 90% of grade. Instructions can get confusing but he is very helpful and happy to help and clarify. ASK QUESTIONS. Good teamwork is crucial for this class. No tests only weekly quizzes and team projects.
A ridiculous course, completely useless. Fantasyland projects, what a joke. This professor should be fired.
Dr. Karonika class is a joke. I mean you feel like your getting University of Phoenix quality courses online. I am looking for something that is real world test it out yourself scientifically business course not boring middle school like group assignments. He is old, has no energy or excitement to his class I felt like a zombie. Get a good group!
I took the online class.textbooks are required. There are 2 team projects and weekly quizzes. you will be spending the majority of the time interacting with your team and do evaluation on each other at the end of each project. so your grade is based on the 2 projects, team evaluation, and weekly quizzes.
Seems he gets better reviews in his other classes than in Intra. He was rude and would do things to try to turn group members on each other. Your grade and money are his entertainment. He did things that were unethical. UH pays him $55,177 a year (public info). That's a third of what the serious professors make.
Really, with Karonika, he's a reasonable guy with reasonable expectations, and he's fairly lax too. I took this class online, didn't put an ounce of work in I didn't have to, and as this would have probably caused me to get in the D range in most classes, it earned me a B in his class. Want an A? Do the work and participate in the group.
Horrible professor. Took online and he did not teacher a single day. He lead NO discussions. Had to take a lot of quizzes in which he tried to trick you with the answers. Two huge group projects and if your group slacks, you are all alone doing a 100+ page report all alone. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS LIKE THE PLAGUE.
Awful teacher!! avoid him at all cost. He makes groups members go against each other. Does not teach anything in class but stand there and pose for pictures
Two team projects, peer evaluations weighted as much as project itself, easy weekly writing assignments (these are why the textbook is needed). Be sure to pick a good team and communicate regularly.
The MOST important thing is picking a good team at the beginning. Can't emphasize that enough. If they get lazy, you might be screwed. Projects are not hard, but are time consuming. Pick a company you can get excited about. Wkly quizes are a joke, but you have to keep up with them (need 1st book for this). Grades pretty easy.
Hands down the easiest class I've ever taken! I mean it was so easy, I'm even taking his 3312 course just so I can boost my GPA. He grades very easily, and gives multiple attempts for the online quizzes so there's no excuse as to why you should not get 100% on those. Only thing is, make sure you choose a good group at the beginning.
Easy course!! Highly recommend!
I took it in Summer 2014 and, I got an A. The professor is very easy going. Make sure to pick a good group, follow the business plans, and complete all the quizzes and group evaluations.I highly recommend this course. I thought it was an interesting, especially if you want to learn about opening or creating your own business.
This was an amazing class. There are quizzes but they are very doable with or without studying. He does not grade harshly. The main thing to look out for is your group for your project. If you pick a good group it will be a breeze however if you do not then you will be stuck with much more work. However doing more work or not it is a great class.
On the cover this class should be pretty easy. 2 group projects and simple weekly quizzes. However those 2 projects require a ridiculous amount of work. First project is a 100 page typed report you do in a group of 5 students. Chances are 1-2 people in your group won't do anything, that leaves 100 pages to be divided between 3-4 people.
If, like me, you only need this for a MINOR elective, STAY AWAY! Literally the hardest projects I've ever had. He gives two GIANT projects that are the same as what pros are paid to do. Have a slacker in your group and you're screwed! The grade is composed of 2 projects (100pts each), 2 peer evals (100x2), and weekly online essay "quizzes" (100).
Let me be clear, 2 projects and weekly quiz (homework) The homework wasn't bad at all. The 2 projects are long, time consuming, and definitely require group effort, so choosing a good group is the key here. The instructor can be reached via his email although his replies can be vague sometimes. Overall this was an easy course!
You do not need to purchase anything! Most quiz answers can be found online, and you can use sample business plans for the projects. The plan instructions weren't very clear, so you need to go off the samples. Luckily the professor doesn't grade too harshly, and he replies pretty quickly and was helpful. Get a good group, do the work, make an A.
I absolutely loved the way he manages his class. I like that you can get ahead and get the work done without having to wait for him to make it accessible. Quizzes answers are all online the project is tough but he is a very easy grader. You can email him at anytime he is super quick on answering back.
Dr. Karonika has 3 grading components. 5 quizzes that total 20%, 2 Peer Evaluations that total 40%, and a Business Plan that totals 40% of your final grade. The quizzes are very easy and can be found online. For the peer evaluations, just make sure you do your part for your team and you will get a 100. Business plan is easy too! Just follow sample.
There are 3 components to his grading scale. 4 quizzes worth 20%, 2 Peer Evaluations worth 40%, and the Innovation Screening Portfolio worth 40% of your final grade. For the quizzes, you must read the book. He grades these fairly easy. Do your part for the peer evaluation and you will get a 100. The Innovation Screening Portfolio was graded tough.
He has pages of instructions that sometimes say to do the exact opposite of the example he gives you. I had to do 70% of the work myself because my group was AWOL, and accidentally made a bad citation (used wrong book title). One bad citation that he harshly interpreted as plagiarism and took 20 points off for. 84 - 64 on the biggest assignment.
One of the worst classes that I have ever taken in my life. This man does not understand left from right, yet spouts off about what he knows through verbose emails and ludicrous expectations. 2 major projects that cover absolutely nothing at all but are worth 60% of the grade. Dr. K, you are more useless than a pet rock
His class is pretty straightforward: 11 online weekly quizzes the lowest quiz grade will be dropped, 2 peer-evaluations, and a marketing strategy plan group project. Choose your teammates wisely for the group project. He provides detailed criteria on what he expects in terms of the group project.
Online class seemed interesting, but the final project, which is 40% of the grade, had you come up with concepts to write about. The example posted was a C paper, and it was 91 pages long. On top of that there were restrictions on what you could have even written about. He was not helpful, and his grading was difficult. Worse class I have ever had.
Took over the summer as a marketing elective for my minor- 4 online quizzes and 1 group project. As long as you follow his directions Easy A! The online quizzes are essay's so get ready to write and the group project was very long but follow his example but do more and you'll get an A. Pick your group members wisely and start early on the project.
Pretty easy professor. One group assignment but do as he says and put forth effort and you will make an easy A
Awful professor. Claims that learning is not a punishment but it is in his class. Super mean and rude. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
STAY AWAY! I cant stress enough how ridiculously difficult this class is. Ive never rated a professor but this one needs a huge caution sign. Hes rude and unclear about instructions. Weekly discussions are easy but his group projects of 100 pages are difficult because they contradict his examples and simply dont make sense. Stay away if you can
This professor contradicts everything he says with his rules. Be sure to watch out for your group members as well as well, this class requires loyal group members who are honest about your efforts on peer evaluations, which are test grades. The class requires a huge team effort towards the long and excessive projects.
This was the most difficult online course I've ever taken. He is the most specific grader, and takes points off for everything. Two group projects that are about 90 pages EACH. Choose your team members wisely, because there is a ton of work to do on the projects. He doesn't seem to care about his students much. Way too tough, take someone else.
DO NOT TAKE this class. I read the comments before I enrolled thinking it would be okay but i was wrong. The first assignment is opinion based, I followed all directions and he gave me a 0 and his comment was extremely rude. I worked hard and I am an A-B student so receiving this was shocking. He is terrible and I learned nothing. AVOID THIS CLASS!
worst teacher i've ever had. avoid at all costs. extremely rude and way too much work and you get nothing out of it. he should be fired, i don't understand how some of these comments are positive
Good understanding professor, tough grader on the project but overall I enjoyed the class. I took the summer course, class consisted of 4 quizzes, 1 group project and 2 peer evaluations. He gives good feed back and accessible if needed.
Don't take this professor!!!! I expected this course to be interesting and insightful, what I didn't expect was to be belittled and made to feel like a fool. He has 2 major projects that are worth 60% of the grade and no joke, they are over 60+ pages long. This isn't a graduate level course so there's no reason to have such hefty projects.
OH MY GOD. PLEASE LISTEN TO ME. Do not take this class unless you're doing it in the summer. This professor is extremely tough. There are 2 60-90 page projects that will ruin your life. There are no clear instructions and you only see the requirements AFTER he has graded it. Projects are hard. STAY AWAY! Wouldn't curve my final grade up from a 89.9
I really don't see why people think this class is so hard. There's 12 weekly quizzes which are just short discussions that are super easy & then 2 group projects. Yeah, the group projects are long, but if you get a good group and break up the work it's fairly easy. We got a 70 on both projects and I still passed this class with an A.
I'm convinced that the bad reviews are from students who expected the course to be a "blow-off". There are weekly assignments that are straight from the text and very easy. Two group projects are fairly simple as long as you have a good group and don't procrastinate and follow the guidelines. Allocate your time and work correctly and you'll pass.
To the person who wrote the review before me, congrats. You should find him and buy him a cookie. But to the rest of you, stay away. Aside from his grading methods, His smart-a** comments and snobby attitude make up his horrible class. Assignments teach you nothing. Mr. Karonika, if you're such an "entrepreneur", why are you still teaching?
If you want to take a class to drop your gpa, be my guest. The weekly assignments are easy and straightforward. However, his grading on the group projects is terrible and he cuts points off for stuff he never mentioned in the instructions of the project. To top it off, he's rude and makes comments that are unnecessary if he does not agree w/ you.
Projects are detailed, but they prepare you for real world expectations and more importantly corporate environment. Professor offers great feedback on all assignments which is an excellent tool for learning as a student.
My team and I completed all class assignments fully and in advance. Unfortunately, directions for the two projects were unclear and he docked major points for things never mentioned in the project instructions. Weekly assignments are simple but answers can be broad. Your answer might be right but he may give you a 0. Subjective grading! DO NOT TAKE
The ppl who hate this dude probably slacked pretty bad. The class is cake if you know how to manage time. Hes extremely responsive to emails, witty, and gives you every resource to pass. Only horrific part of this class is the team projects (2). I got stuck w/the most dysfunctional group for project 1, but he offered to find me a new team for p.2
vague class. horrible teacher. you won't learn about entrepreneurship in this class or in college unless youre starting your own business on the side. this class is a joke. the project is a joke. this teacher is awful, unhelpful, and there should never be an online entrepreneurship class. get full credit for all discussions, super easy but learned0
One of the most horrible classes I've ever taken. The professor does not care about your grade at all, no extra credit whatsoever. Save yourself and do not take this class. There are two group projects and if you end up with a bad team you're screwed. The professor is rude when you ask him for help.
This class is supposed to be student driven and thus the teacher has very little involvement. That being said, the teacher is essentially non-existent. This is a self taught, self driven class. If you are not a self-motivated person, don't take this course. This class requires a large amount of group work and the group projects are demanding.
You really do have to work for your grade. BUT out of all the classes that I've taken at UH, this class was one I felt I learned from the most and I feel I can apply the experience to real life situations. I took the course online Fall, 2019. I recommend this course to anyone who loves to learn and truly wants to get value out of their education.
2 BIG group projects that require a TON of time & work. As long as you follow the example projects almost exactly, you'll do fine. A discussion/mini essay every week that is easy to BS. He scares you by sending a lots of emails and information but don't stress. No exams &don't buy textbook just find an online pdf and CTRL F to get info for quizzes
This prof uses Canvas instead of Blackboard and the whole sign up process for all his needs is so annoying. Apart from the massive group project we also have extremely difficult essays due every week which he grades too harshly. For a blowoff class I had to do more work here than in my regular classes.
One of the classes that you have to actually work for your grade if you want a good one. Over the summer, there's one big group project so make sure you have good members on the team and 4 weekly quizzes. Instructor is annoying and grades hard for no reason. The TA was better than him but overall, just do your best and work hard in this class.
So this class isn't that bad, but be mindful of your group mates as they can really sabotage your grade. A big bulk of your grade comes from the peer evaluations, and a few of the group mates were in cahoot and gave 70s to the other group mates even though they contributed just as much if not more and the professor will not intervene.
The WORST professor Ive taken in all my years at UH. This is the first time I felt urged to write a review on a professor. This class is such a joke. The professor does nothing but send out announcement emails. Hes incredibly rude to all students and condescending. Not hard, but gives an insane amount of HW. 2 Ridiculous 70-130page group projects
It could not really be called His class, more like the ENTR department's and book's class. He sent out an announcement to everyone that asking for points to enter a new grade bracket is unethical, regardless if they asked. The irony and hypocrisy are incredible as he is scamming the university and with the announcement is attacking my own character
This is literally a self taught class, professor had ZERO online lectures, I only read the book when needed for quizzes. 4 quizzes, 2 peer evaluation, HUGE group project (about 90 pages long) JOIN GROUPS ASAP because your group really determines your grade in this class. This class could be easy if you really put in the work and HAVE A GOOD GROUP!!
He is a terrible professor, does not have any lectures, and only communicates to students through announcements. Insane amount of workload for a junior-level course. There are 2 60-90 page group projects and he grades them very tough. He is also very condescending in communication as well. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Professor is bad with communication. Only gives weekly quizzes and two group projects. Toughest grader I've ever had, he's like the grammar police too. Only take this class if you know ppl for your group projects and if you're an ENTR major. Overall, I do feel like I learned a lot but as a non ENTR major, I don't think it was worth it.
Good class and great teacher. Subject matter is easy and straight forward to understand. Staying on top pf the class is important. Nothing unexpected. Do you reading and assignments and you will be fine. Tests are straight forward and from the material covered.
only two group projects the entire semester, and no virtual meetings with him at all. while that may sound easy, the professor designs the projects to be incredibly time consuming, difficult, and group based. if you don't find a good group for this class, consider yourself screwed.
Horrible professor. The worst teacher I have ever had during my entire scholarly career. Very tough grader and there is an 80-page project that we have to do. Weekly quizzes are essays and not even quizzes. Disgusting class.
This is the worst professor I've ever had at University of Houston. He is very unreasonable with his grading and it's inconsistent. He gives 0s for minor infractions when it should just be a few points deducted. The two group projects are incredibly complex and he does not provide any guidance. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR
This teacher is so bad. As your project are about innovative concepts, both of them, but even though your concepts are innovative and never seen to market. They are still not innovative. His examples do not make sense when he tries to explain them. Once he grades your project he does not do research on your market so he grades by how he feels .
Professor Karonika is exceptional. His course material was challenging and well rounded. He is fair in his gradings, very responsive, and easily accessible.
Coursework is challenging and designed to represent true group dynamics within the entrepreneurship arena.
Beware if enrolling in Dr Karonika's courses. You'll have to spend extensive time OUTSIDE of class. Syllabus/guidelines are very confusing. Weekly quizzes consist of discussions or mini-essays (DON'T forget the honor code on ALL of them). The 2 projects are unnecessarily extensive and stressful. Very strict on dishonesty... which can be anything.
This course is a nightmare. He expects u to complete a project n gives an 80 page example that is lacking on the explanation of the content. U have 2 guess n stress constantly. The quizzes n discussions r all Essays n even if u do everything right, u may still get points deducted 4 no reason. Archaic and barbaric. Avoid! Any good reviews r frauds.
The major project was unclear with links hidden in links that make it VERY easy to miss something. Points off for things I still can't find written anywhere. If you go off of project example, you will not get a good grade. TA that grades is very harsh. Nothing but confusion. Once again, another professor that does NOTHING but cash a paycheck. SAD!
80% of your grade is the group projects which are a nightmare. The example project that was sent to students consisted of a PDF that was 88 pages long, 8 of those pages were about baby diapers with lotion. Imagine having to type 8 pages about baby diapers, that shows the amount of detail he wants. Also groups are not cohesive.
The projects for this class were extensive, time consuming and ridiculous. The team projects make up most of your grade. If you do not get a good team, I suggest you drop the class. Weekly discussions or quizzes as well.
Guys if u want an F only then take this professor. He is the worst professor a very tough grader and your whole grade is dependant on the grade of your group people. Just don't take this class everrrr
DO NOT TAKE ANY COURSE UNDER THIS PROF. RUNNNN.....
This class consists of easy weekly discussions, NO EXAMS, and 2 hefty group project papers. Choose your group wisely. However he does not grade these projects super tough as long as you follow the requirements. The projects are assigned when the course starts and you have well over a month before the first part is due. Do not procrastinate.
Class wasn't as bad as reviews said. Projects are long (50~100p) but not too difficult. Mostly answer questions about innovations for a company you select. Parts are repeated for each one so you can just copy and paste. If your team completes 1 innovation a week, the projects are manageable and don't take much time. Weekly discussions are easy!
This professor has a bunch of instructions that somehow makes it harder to do the project?!?! Very limited on choices and unnecessarily difficult. ONE OF THE WORST PROFESSORS EVER.
I took this course as a mini-session and it was not that bad like people make it out to be. This class isn't for people who procrastinate. It consists of weekly quizzes and a group project that isn't even hard if you just read..carefully. Dr. K is very nice and responsive.
Many people dropped out before we started our first assignment assuming the class was going to be too much. I work full time and do school full time. This class was an easy A+. As long as you follow his guidelines and read his syllabus correctly. Yes you have a group project, but it's not a lot if you plan your time wisely. Took as a summer class.
Professor Karonika made things much harder than they needed to be such as not letting students use the CTAP version of the textbooks. He even accused me once of plagiarism for that fact.. The overall structure of the course is very disorganized and was super confusing most of the time. I didn't take away much from this course at the end of the day.
The class has extensive group projects that take up most of the grade. Use unstuck ai alongside the free textbook to manage the workload. Attendance is mandatory, but the weekly discussions are doable. Overall, it's a challenging yet manageable course if you plan ahead.
Labor intensive class, two group projects and if your group sucks good luck. Very hard to navigate canvas and strict grading criteria, but he makes the criteria like a scavenger hunt to find. Both group projects were 140+ pages. Dont take it if you cant make it your #1 priority.
You can tell when a professor's entire life revolves around this singular class. 0/10 do not recommend. Way too much work. Like, seriously, way too much. my group of FIVE literally had to meet three times a week every week and we were still fell behind on our group project (over 120pgs). Not to mention he's such a tough grader for discussion post
For an Entrepreneurship class, this professors goal is to kill creativity. He gives 2 major extensive projects that are mundane time consuming and end up being over 90-100 pages each for no reason.I passed with an A at the cost of my sanity.I could've used more time on other classes than this course. Please do not take this professor for this class.
Professor Karnoika was an okay professor. This course was an average course. You will have two group projects (up to five people) and weekly assignments. Make sure to choose good teammates for the project. Overall, this was an okay course. (Took it in Spring 2025)
