This teacher is really good. It's my third time taking math 113 and im finally going to pass thanks to this teacher. Show up to class and pay attention and you will pass. Take this teacher if u struggle with math :)

I really recommend this teacher especially those who struggles in Math like I do. He explains every detail. Very patient with his students. Quizzes are simple like 4 to 5 questions. He gives great advice and really likes to help his students even stuff that are not related to Math. He's funny too and always in a good mood coming to class everyday!

Dt. Kawai was a great teacher. If i had meet him before, i would had taken all of my Math calsses with him. He makes the class fun, and you learn at the same time. Very helpful.

Amazing Professor, I took him last semester and thought he was just great. He talked about other fun topics (like physics and sciene) which made learning a lot more enjoyable. He's always in a happy mood. He tells you what to expect on a test. He also grades on a curve. But if you don't get a 70% or + on the final. Game over. Take his class!!

I love him with all my heart and soul ;) hes an amazing teacher, he wants everyone to pass. His quizes are SUPER EASY, did i say Super! If u fail all the quizes you can still pass the class if you score a 70 or above!! I love the way he erases the board also. haha

The absolute best math teacher I have ever had. If you haven't taken him, pleas do because you wont regret it. A lot of homework but it's optional most of the time. Must show up for quizez and midterms. Make sure to pass the final.. and Great and clear teaching abilities.. and there are also fun stories. Kawai is the best!

I love professor kawai!! He was so helpful and I really wish he taught math 125. I took him for both 113 and 114! I struggle with math alot so he is good he is very helpful and kind. He is also funny . Homework is optional quizes are very similar to final.

He's a fun professor in a boring subject. Grades on a nice curve, drops two quizzes. It's not an easy class, but you'll get what you put in to it. Without doing homework I passed with a C. He's nice and very funny, made an early morning math class bearable.

This is a really great math teacher. I took him for math 113 & 114. His lectures are clear to understand. There is HW every class meeting & is very helpful to do cause it helps with the midterms. There is a quiz every week & 3 midterms & one final. I loved his class, if u hate math take him.!

Very good professor. Doesn't have time to give tons of examples because its a condensed winter session, but definitely does a great job of explaining everything. Very upfront about how the class is doing and give lots of extra help via YouTube and email A+ teacher.

I love Dr. Kawai. I hate math, but he made the class extremely bearable, and I was able to pass. Takes hard work, you have to pay attention, but his grading is lenient and you get to drop a couple quizzes. He's quite entertaining, tells a lot of stories. Answers questions well.

Best Professor at LAVC. I took him last semester and went into the final with a 103% I had failed the same class with another professor the semester before. He explains everything so clearly detail by detail. I would never have dreamed of having as much fun in a math class as I did in Kawai's class. Best teacher ever. Wish he taught 125.

I'm going to be honest. Yes, he is a very good teacher, explains everything very well, easy quizes every week, etc... BUT he is NOT funny, he is ANNOYING, and I want to pull my hair out when he makes his DUMB jokes. But great teacher.

He is an ok teacher, sometimes he did things wrong on his lecture and I would get it wrong on the test =( he would try to make up for it but he ended up confusing the hell outta me. He is a good teacher he just makes too many mistakesfor me. I got a terrible grade and I felt like he helped confuse me even more.

He is an awesome teacher! All you need to do is attend class and pay attention, and that isn't hard with him being funny...and cute. :) He gives a quiz the first day of every class week and all my homework was online. Just do the homework, go to the mathlab, ask questions and you'll surely get and A.

This is a Professor who really cares for his students. He cares that you really learn the material and move on. He is stern, yet kind and helpful. He gives you so much more than just math. Dr. Kawai is one of the best professors I've taken at LAVC. His teaching is great, he's laid back, understandable and funny as well! I took this class during a winter semester, so everything was pretty crammed and it was a lot of work, but Dr. Kawai still managed to make the class fun and easygoing. Kawai is an amazing professor. I dreaded math and had lost motivation to retake it until I took his class. He made math easy to understand and enjoyable. He takes his time explaining things and answering questions. He is genuine and really cares about his students. Take lots of notes and attend class everyday because he covers a lot of material.

It's 10 units, but as long as you put in effort, you will get an A. This was not only a good class, but a great bonding and learning experience. He encourages students and is extremely patient. He also makes the tests super easy b/c the examples done in class are what's on the test. I enjoyed it so much, I wish I could take it again!

Seriously, the best math teacher I have ever had. Even though this was a 10 unit class he was very helpful, gives you practice test/exams from prior semesters. Is actually funny and keeps your attention. There is no reason you should fail if your using the resources he gives you.BTW I passed with a A not knowing my multiplication tables. Take him!

Math has never been my strong suit. I needed this class to join a union. I picked Mr Kawai based off of these reviews prior. He is a phenomenal professor who makes math easy to learn. He is fun, helpful and makes it so you get it in the end. Go to class daily, listen, follow his instructions and you will succeed!

Good professor. 3rd time with him. He STOPS what he's doing to make sure you get it, no matter how small or big the question. Very encouraging and not afraid to point out that he has flaws too and he's just a normal person. Hard work is the key! Highly recommended!

If a peers has trouble understanding math problems, then I highly recommend to get Professor Kawai. He helps students works at a certain pace (if ask) , but no make ups on quizzes or midterms. Do homework,listen to the lectures, and the student will do fine in class.

Kawai is by far the greatest math professor ever. I used to struggle with math, but taking his class was the best decision. He teaches very thoroughly and shows you many examples, until you have finally understood. He is also very kind and cares for his students a lot. He is the one of the best professor i ve been taken it was my first semester in college and i dont know what to do but the way he inspire his students and give examples i am amazed, very intelligent and smart,in class he take once a week test so you know hows your grade are and he drop lowest 2-3, Perfect professor who dont like maths.

I would strongly advise not to take his classes during the Summer and Winter unless if it is the only thing that you will be doing. Forget about your job and kids, math would be your life if you take him in the short semesters. Dr. Kawai is a brilliant professor.

This math combo class was by far the most difficult class I have taken. I could only do this type of class with Dr. Kawai. He is the GREATEST professor ever. Love this Professor! You have lectures everyday and a review quiz every Monday. He gives you access to all of his past quizzes and midterms to help you study. Attendance isn't required but only those who come pass the midterms and quizzes. The book is either required or optional depending if you rather do the homework online or use the text book.

Dr. Kawai has made math so easy for me. I have had such a difficult time understand concepts they were at one point too difficult to solve on my own. His learning method has helped me so well, I can finally do math now. So accomodaing & reasonable. He gives extra credit in class so pay attention for his extra credit word. Overall great class :)

The best math teacher I've ever had. He is very clear during the lecture and even if you don't get certain problems he'll go over it until you understand. My favorite thing about the class was the advice he gave us on how to pass.

Highly recommended. Dr. Kawai will show you how to make math your beeep! Make the flashcards, come to class, take notes, ask questions, do the homework, and the worksheets. REPETITION IS THE SECRET. No surprises. Unless you're a math whiz-expect to put in a lot of time. There are also weekly math workshops, credible on-line tools, and MathLab.

Professor Kawai is clearly one of the best profs I have ever taken. He has a passion for helping every student. He makes you feel like your question is very important. He never ever makes you feel inadequate. He grades on curve, and gives extra credit. He also talks about life a lot, I have learned so much from him, besides Algebra!

Great professor, I struggled with math 110 math 115 until I took him for math 115 and 125. He provides you with the tools the steps and relate them to real world situations. He is not only a professor but a mentor, recently though because of lack of funding he will be teaching more advanced courses and 115 and 125 will be combined. Not great.

Dr. Kawai is an awesome & understanding professor. If you put in the work and practice daily you will have no problems in his class. He gives extra credit on quizzes so listen carefully. Midterm exams can be daunting & he can trick you on some questions. Overall good teacher & works with students to help them succeed!

I am an ESL student ( English as a Second Language) and I completely understand every step. I completely encourage you to take him if you feel math is not for you. I have a 90% score an A.

He's an amazing guy. Great sense of humor, awesome personality, and he truly cares about teaching. I have not found a teacher that has the level of intelligence and communication skills that he has. As a psychology major, I can observe many of his positive qualities that end up helping the students to learn. You do; however, have to do your part.

Professor Kawai was new to LATTC and his lesson on Stats (Math 227) was excellent. Lectures were understandable & even when over the quizzes/midterm test in class. Also pointed out what would be on the final exam. If you do not understand, ask questions he is very helpful. Gives homework and if you study from the lecture notes, you will pass.

Professor Kawai is the best math teacher at LAVC give extra credit but u hav to work for it and he offer study guide and it will b just like his actually exam and quiz. So don't get lazy and spend time to study in order to b successful in his class. His an awesome person.

Professor Kawai is one of the best math profs at lavc. The class itself is very difficult but he does a good job explaining. Doesn't mind questions to explain further. While attendance isn't actually mandatory, since the class material is so hard and the class is fast paced, you'll really struggle if you miss class.

Prof. Kawai is the best professor ever. I wasn't very excited when i enrolled, but it turned out to be very exciting class thanks to Prof. Kawai. This class is pretty intense, but with a good professor it helps enormously! Professor Kawai is patient, knowledgeable, teaches you in different techniques to make sure his students understand the material. He's the best choice to take this difficult class with. There was a lot of homework but it helps to learn the material.

Professor Kawai is an amazing math teacher, I usually hate math, but he made me love math. He gives short quizzes once a week and emails his slides after every lecture so you can review them. He sends helpful videos for his tougher lectures, and will sometimes let you retake a quiz. He's the best math professor ever, you won't regret it!

Dr. Kawai cares about teaching his students more than just the criteria. He relates his lectures to real-world contexts as well as teaching his students how to learn. By providing a historical framework, the lectures become more inspiring. He is easy-going but also moves at a brisk pace. His course is a great reintroduction to mathematics.

This is a very hard math class. Make sure you are proficient in algebra or he will tell you to drop and take math 134. Homework heavy and a quiz or exam every Monday. The quizzes and exams are taken on Cengage during class on zoom with cameras on. You get to use 1 index card. He goes really fast so expect to spend a lot of time studying.

Math 238 is a very hard class, but Dr. Kawai made it easy. His lectures are amazing, and he teaches the material with great care. There is a lot of homework you have to do via WebAssign, and if you do them probably two days earlier than the due date, you'll get extra credit. Exams are done via WebAssign and with the Zoom camera on. Take his class))

By far the kindest, most incredible professor I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. I wish for this man to get everything he desires in life because he's just that amazing. Dr. Kawai is the best math professor I have ever had. I took this class during Summer in 5 weeks straight out of high school. He made math feel easy and fun, and would make the lectures extremely interesting and was flexible with our schedules. Make sure to do the homework (WebAssign) - the tests are the homework problems with different numbers.

Cannot stress enough to not miss class! Professor Kawai is great but the material was challenging. He is always willing to answer questions and is extremely understanding. Weekly quizzes and homework assignments are meant to prep you for his exams. Take it with a grain of salt. Take his math workshop! Hands down the best math professor I've had.

Very realistic professor, says half the class will fail, and that he will not tolerate cheating he knows people will cheat he allows a flashcard in test with whatever info you want to put on it. Tests come directly from the homework, if you are willing to ask every question, do the work, and listen to his flashcard cues, I was not a fan of math.

I havent finished his class yet but he honestly makes math so fun and understanding. I have never met a more flexible and understanding professor. You can tell he is very passionate about what he does and he honestly wants all his students to succeed. Its a biz math class but I have learned more than just math in his class. Best professor:)

Professor Kawai is amazing! I just took his accelerated Statistics Math 227 course during the Summer session I was very nervous, because I have NEVER been good at math. However, Professor Kawai is the best math teacher I've ever taken. He allows questions, no matter how many. I would highly recommend him. Please take advantage of asking questions.

Going into this class, I knew it would be hard but was harder than I anticipated. He assigns hours of homework that have nothing to do with lectures or the tests. There is a quiz or a test every single week. He as a person is really nice, but I feel like he made the class harder than it needed to be.

Took professor Kawai's online Math 227 course. This course is fairly difficult, so attending the zoom lectures would be very beneficial. Lectures are long, but Professor Kawai is a great dude and cares about his students. He is accessible outside of class, understanding, and curves each test. Just make sure you stay focused during class.

Even though I took this class during Summer which was very stressful at first, Professor Kawai assigned work very fairly. Homework assignments are very helpful for exams and if you do well on them, I promise you'll do great on exams. He's very supportive and passionate about the subject. I would definitely take other courses with this professor.

HE'S AMAZING & CARES. Easy to talk to. Even w/scheduling - I WENT ON VACAY FOR 1 MONTH & GOT AN A. 12quizzes(drops 2) 22% 3Midterms 25% 1Final 23% HW 20% ALOT of HW, it's too much and takes long but DO IT. Quiz/midterm ?'s are same as HW so practice those & you'll pass. Don't take if you don't have time. Class material is HARD but he curves ALOT.

He is a great professor and very easygoing. He was willing to reschedule the exam for all of us because we have other exams. If you have questions, you can text him.

Prof. Kawai makes this challenging business calc class much more manageable. The homework and quizzes are tough, but staying on top of them and using resources like unstuck ai is key to succeeding. Overall, a rewarding experience with a supportive, passionate instructor.

Kawai is extremely accommodating and FAIR. If you explain to him that you have work during class hours he will make it an effort to make sure you have the materials t0 study. The exams and quizzes are exactly from the homework. And he allows questions from the homework whenever possible: before, during, or after class. A very fair professor.

Great Professor, allowed us to text and call when needed. Test questions are copy pasted from the homework. He gets into politics at some points but does a great job to later tie it into what we are learning and how we can apply these concepts to real world examples. Made long lectures feel quick and informative. Very flexible and fair, 10/10.

Dr.Kawai is a great professor. The homework is a lot, but it is manageable and easy if you stay on top of it. The tests are the same as homework; just a few numbers were changed. You can always text and call the professor. He is also willing to reschedule the exam for you and curve all the tests. Recommend!

It is very fair; however, there is a lot of homework, and a quiz every Tuesday. Make sure to submit your work, or you won't get credit. He is very accommodating if you let him know about your circumstances. Communication is key in this class; he curves your Grade, too. There's no reason to fail this class!

Simply the best! Always tries to help with everything. If only he taught MATH 259, 261, 262, 263, I would definitely take him. Allows you to take exams on your own time if you weren't able to take it with the class. Accessible outside of class and definitely wants you to learn. TAKE NOTES. He's the best but don't take advantage of his kindness.

Kawaii is an amazing professor. He is always willing to spend time outside of class to help on the homework or any problem u r having trouble with. Lectures can be long but they r thorough and helpful. There can be a lot of homework but all the tests and quizzes r based off of the homework questions. He is also willing to help with scholarships.

I took Dr. Kawai's STATSC100 -- This class covers a lot of material and fast, however, Dr. Kawai always tries to make sure you understand the material and does not hesitate to go over anything-- You just have to be sure to ask questions. He genuinely appreciates when students ask.
