Good prof - just make sure you show up for those pop quizzes!
Excellent prof
grading sucks
great professor hopefully i can get into some more of his classes will take again. Tests are easy if you come to class and pay a decent amount of attention. very cool also seems he has learned a lot during his life highly respected by me!
Stick to the books in order to survive
Do not care much for him. His grading scale sucks. A,B,C are a 10 point scale D are a 4 point scale. Not very helpful. Take a different teacher. TRICKY on his test. Teletech is even worse. SAVE YOURSELF!!!!!
Tests are tricky. Know your powerpoints and definitions. Stories give real world experience but can become monotonus by the end of the semester. Don't believe him when he says about getting out of class early.
A legend in his own mind. Grading criteria is unfair and unreasonable. If I hear one more of his telephone stories I think I'll puke. A control freak who likes to see his students squirm. Avoid if at all possible.
Great professor! He knows his stuff. This is not an easy class, but if you show up and pay attention and read the book, you should be able to get a good grade. This is a teacher that loves to teach. I thought his class was very interesting and definitely would recommend him to any student.
I have taken him for four classes, and I look for his name every time I register. I have yet to take a hard course. He is hilariously funny, and loves to tell stories- go to class, and just read over the book, and you'll get at least an B.
Excellent professor, down to earth - easy to understand. He tells you which powerpoint slides are important by saying "this is important". Know your definitions. Easy A/B if you come to class and take notes. Great teletechnet instuctor.
tricky tests
This prof is very straight forward. Lectures are important. All test questions come from lecture slides.
Tricky tests, but I learned so much from his management class. And some of his sayings are HILARIOUS! Kept my attention. Enjoyed the class, just have to study is all.
Tests always have a few tricky questions, but they're totally do-able if you just study. He tells you what is important to know- these WILL be on the test! He is so funny sometimes you can't help but laugh out loud :) Don't read the book except for what he says to know-- it's not worth your time!
He is a terrible teacher. He babbles continuously on AT&T and his wife. There is no excuse for how he sucks as a teacher. He gives 3 exams and 1 paper. Easy enough, huh? Well thats what I thought but he only wants his way or the high way. He is terrible.. Never sign up for one of his classes.. Its a waste of energy, time and good money.
He os funny sometimes, but that is not why you signed up for the class. 3 Tricky tests. Only 31 questions on each tests and one paper. Talks about his old job at AT&T and other things not class related. 65 or below is a F for his grading scale.
An irritating Colonel Sander's wannabe. His exaggerated southern country accent makes me want to gag. His tests are tricky and he seems to take take joy in that. Will not admit when he is wrong, even if the evidence is presented. Take this class only if you have to. Egotisitcal, self-centerd, who enjoys having power over the students.
He has a serious I dont care attitude. He always thinks that he is right.
Horrible teacher. Boring as hell. Old men should retire and move to Florida. Take a hint.
I had him for MGMT 325, 340, 360, and 451. Once you take one of his classes the others are pretty much the same. He's interesting. He gives 3 tests and a 2-3 page paper. Test come from power point slides but can be thought provikng. If he says you need to know or its important its on the test.
I had Prof. Keeling for Mgmt 325 & 340. I am in my early 30s taking satellite distance classes thru ODU. Maybe I think he has something to offer students b/c of his real world experience in mgmt due to my age. But I think he is a pretty good teacher. His tests can be challenging, but college courses should not be a piece of cake.
He is a nice teacher but you have to study all the slides to do well on the tests. I did not do well because I had no time to study for the class due to my job that semester and my other classes.

When the CLASS AVERAGE fails his exams, it seems like Keeling is the one that failed to teach well and communicate with the students. He refuses to curve the exam or give extra credit. MANY students are planning to take this up to the DEAN, cause he keeps telling us "i have too many students to give extra credit." Ok Keeling, that's not our fault!
LECTURES ARE BORING AND WAY TOO LONG. HE IS VERY SET IN HIS WAYS AND WILL NOT GRADE ON A CURVE EVEN THOUGH THE AVG GRADE IS IN THE LOW 60'S. ONLY TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU ABSOLUTLETY HAVE TO.
His lectures are long, but informative. He does not give study guides or review for tests. His tests are hard, but this is not a 100 level course, they're supposed to be hard! Those who got bad grades didn't try hard enough. He provides all the info you need to do well, you just have to study.
People should not be expected to be mind readers, nor should they have to decipher what you want by having to go through a maze of verbal cues. The average was failing, & the fault is on Keeling, because he is being paid to teach, apparently he has shown that he FAILED to deliver knowledge to the class despite being paid. Then what is his use?
I agree with others that his mult. choice tests are 2 tricky! It's like this; He gives you a question and 5 possible choices to pick from. The 1st 3 choices are so closely related you wouldn't know which to pick, the 4th choice is "all of the above." & the last choice is "none of the above" Get 5 wrong & you are down to a C grade! H8 him & AT&T!
Just got done with his class and came here to rate him, but after reading some of the comments posted by other students it pretty much sums up what I want to say. Why anyone would want to take this guy after reading the majority of the comments is beyond me.
A bunch of us talked to him about his exams and he said "I don't have time, Christmas is coming." It's like taking $600 & giving it to keeling, then driving to campus wasting gas and putting miles on your car, buying the book, studying for his misleading exams, then not passing. This happened to the CLASS AVERAGE. If you feel lucky, go for it
Mr. Keeling's exams were misleadingly difficult, but it didn't flunk me. I got out with a B. It was worth it to have a teacher that was entertaining. He loved to tell stories and shock the class awake with a sexual reference or curse word. He also had a lot of fun picking on people. Difficult grader though.
Everyone got a C on the first exam, and then the last 2 exams, pretty much all got a D. There is one 10 point paper, everyone got like a 8 out of 10 on and then the final grade that we ended up with was a 69% which is a D. He won't up you not one single point! Go for it if you like.
Good story teller
You def. have to study for the tests...everything he says that is on the test is going to be on it so do not disregard it...everyone thought he was really hard but it is not that bad if you pay attention...easy B
Pick another teacher!
His exams were intentionally misleading, and if they were not, why when the class average nearly failed his exam, the first thing he said when class started was, "you know, my tests are not misleading." Why anyone would take this guy after all these bad ratings is beyond me. I would pay the school $1,000 to get rid of him.
This guy does not respond to emails. He does not give extra credit or curve grades. Even though his test questions come from the powerpoints, they are very tricky and thought provoking. He doesn't like being wrong either. He didn't even give the class credit for a mistake he made on the test. DONT TAKE HIM!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!
I just cant believe this guy is still teaching!!
Somewhat interesting subject, but not overly impressed with Keeling. As stated in several other comments, tests/grading equivocal. Got a 9 out of 10 on paper, but don't know why since there were no markings on it. Class lectures could be shorter if he would exclude personal/irrelevant stories. Loads of experience in labor does not=good teacher.
This person is a poor reflection on ODU! Shame on you for continuing to Employee him! This person is egotistical, incompetent, and thinks only of himself not about the students. This is the worst class I ever have taken. Asking questions is not aloud. Tests are tricky and misleading!HE SHOULD BE RETIRED! ALSO, I HATE TO HEAR ABOUT AT&T!
DO NOT TAKE this class with Keeling. His tests are impossible! It's the hardest multiple choice and there are 2 short answer ?'s. Attendance is mandatory. There is a paper, which he doesn't grade hard. 3 exams, no final. His lectures are so boring. This class was horrible!
tests are not stunningly misleading. on any assignment or exam if you miss a couple points then you are dropping down to the next letter grade. his research paper is worth 10 points--3 points off and your down to a C. Same with the exam- Get 5 or 6 wrong and your down to a high C. So you can imagine how an F can come real quick. SIMPLY THE WORST!!
keeling is the worst human being i have ever encountered in my adult life
Took his class during Spring of 2008 thru teletechnet. Found his class to be easy if you study, he tells you straight up what to expect on the tests. Well rounded professor who knows how to teach. I'm an older student so maybe the younger generation is looking to be spoon fed. Take his class, easy A for those who study.
Professor Keeling is a wonderful teacher. I am taking my 4th class with him (distance learning) for my management minor, and I have learned so much from him. He uses examples from real life - he worked in mgmt for many years. I will graduate soon and will miss Mr. Keeling. He's a great guy.
Professor Keeling is a great teacher. He is very organized and teaches in a way that helps the student understand the concept. I have gotten an 'A' in all the classes I took with him. He goes over everything, so the tests are not difficult. They do make you think, but isn't that a good thing? He loves for students to ask questions.
What a great guy! I've learned alot from Mr. Keeling and have been able to apply what I've learned into my job as an R.N. I really appreciate this instructor.
Love this guy - very good teacher. I am in my 30's with 4 children, work part-time, go to college, & manage to make A's. I don't understand the complainers who say the tests are so tricky & difficult. He goes over everything during the lectures. All students have to do is take notes & study. Hellooooo. Ya gotta work for those A's, people.
i don't know why people complain so much about keeling. he was an easy professor. took MGT451 and MGT340 during summer with him. do not need to buy the book. instead look the case studies up online. tests are multiple choice and discussion questions. he gives hints to whats on his exams, pay attention. you get what you put in.
Good teacher, tests are kind of tough. It's definately a class you have to be interested in to get anything out of it.
Do not take him if you don't want anything but A! The average grade in all his classes is always C. I studied day and night and still got only 88! His exam questions are misleading and tricky (he even admited it himself)!
He's a good professor, but his tests are tricky. He does points out the topics that are important, so take notes.
Pretty funny guy. BUT if he did mention Bell Atlantic AT&T again, I might have gone crazy. Tests can be tricky, BUT I got a C with VERY MINIMAL effort..so if you actually study and dont cram the night before like me, it should be an easy B. One thing I did not like was that he crammed 7 chapters into one test and then picked 31 questions!
This guy should retire. The worst teacher at ODU by far. Run for your life. Stay clear!! Oh and it takes him 2 weeks to answer your emails!
I've taken several of Keelings classes and he stands out to me as the best Professor I've had at ODU. He lectures well and is interesting and fun. His tests require that you understand the material. You can't only study definitions. Go to class and pay attention and you will do well. My only complaint is that he doesn't like email or blackboard.
After taking many of Keelings classes he stands out to me as the best Professor I've had at ODU. He lectures well and is interesting and fun. His tests require that you understand the material. You can't only study definitions. Go to class and pay attention and you will do well. My only complaint is that he doesn't like email or blackboard.
Mr. Keeling is a pretty good professor overall, he tells you in his lectures what you need to know and explains it clearly. To pass study his slides and focos more on class material than the textbook. Some questions on his tests can be a bit tricky and often there seems to be more than one right answere, listen carfully to his explainations.
Test too subjective
Worst instructor ever!! His test are example pic one A, B, C, AB, All, None or C. Ok just make a standard test please!!!! He needs to Retire
I am in this class now and have to be an extreme slacker to find his tests tricky. I have taken minimal notes, not even opened the book, and have simply paid attention in class and I have an A. Those who think this class is hard should go back to elementary school to learn basic listening and study skills. Mr. Keeling has a great sense of humor!
Steer clear of his course. Test questions are tricky and unrelated to lectures. Most of lectures are stories about his past work history!
This is the worst instructor ever. I am taking his class now his test are too tricky. Stay clear of this guy. STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY HE IS THE WORST INSTRUCTOR!!!!!
I took Mr. Keeling for 340 and 325. I thought he was great. He teaches straight out of the book and posts PowerPoint notes on Blackboard and teaches from them also. His tests were NEVER tricky. If you study his PowerPoints and do the readings, you should have no problem.
Professor Keeling is very flexible and explains everyting in detail. You need to show up and listen in his class and you will get an A.
STAY AWAY THE WORST PROFESSOR, HIS TEST ARE TRICKY. HE NEEDS TO GIVE OUT JUST STANDARD TEST.....OR JUST RETIRE STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY.........
I am taking him now, and if i was you, I would def... not take him... His tests are hard. He doesn't give any review for his tests. you have to do everything on your own, if you fail the test then you will fail his class there is no other help like homwork or projects none of that.. DON'T TAKE HIM...
This professor is very down to earth. He uses real examples fromhis experience. I like his teaching method. He explains in a way that makes more since. He likes to keep it simple and relevant.
He is so funny ... you cannot go wrong with him.
He makes it relevant and lectures from powerpoints that he posts to BB. Uses funny and real examples. Powerpoints basically are the review b/c he def does not cover the book word for word. There is one paper. Tests are kind of hard- mc and short answer. I have this class once a week at night, but he tries to keep it entertaining & simple.
Mr. Keeling made the course a lot easier. His examples were extremely helpful! He was humorous and the class was fun. A great great great professor!
Mr. Keeling made the course a lot easier. His examples were extremely helpful! He was humorous and the class was fun. A great great great professor!
I personally found Keeling to be a very funny professor, hello? haha :) As long as you read the chapters, go to class, and take notes on powerpoint, you're guaranteed an A.
Hard to study for his tests due to volume of info in his classes. Some of his "all the above" multiple choice questions are unnecessarily misleading. Test are small, only 31 questions so U can get in trouble fast on your grade if you don't prepare well. Pay attention to power-points & his get your "hands on this" points. Easy papers.
Mr. Keeling is a great professor. He is very excited about the subject matter that he teaches and has a lot of experience. He tries to relate the material in class to real life experiences. Test material is on the powerpoints, yet tests can sometimes be tricky. Overall a pretty easy class. 3 tests (90), one paper(10). Grades on 100 points total.
I found myself struggling in this course. I have nothing against the professor BUT his exams were ridiculous. Only 30 questions. Each exam covered 5-7 chapters. I found it VERY difficult to study for! If you missed just a few questions, you drop a letter grade. They were NOT easy questions either, very misleading! Be prepared =-)
In the beginning of the school year, he was nice. His slide shows were easy to understand. I studied hard for tests. i passed the class, let's put it that way. He acted like a smart alec every week after a test. He told us that we would do very good if we studied. Yeah, right. I studied really hard and got very depressed, because of this class.
I loved this class! Prof Keeling is very funny and clear. You do not need the textbook... You don't even need to go to class. At least make sure to watch the archived lectures and review the powerpoints and you should ace this class!
Those who think this class is hard should go back to elementary school to learn basic listening and study skills. 3 Exams=31, 1 paper=10. Mr.Keeling will tell you what you need to know for the exams. Study slides show up to class and you should at least pass with a B. Test are only tricky if you do not study. STUDY POWER POINTS AND LISTEN!!!!!!!!
Keeling rocks!
Avoid!!!not helpful!read the ppt and provide his AT&T poor example, there's no review for the exam, you have no idea what's gonna in the exam!
Highly recommen.Test questions ARE tricky.Suggest you take your time and re-read the questions & "think it through".Think about what he said in class. His stories are helpful through the test if you can relate them to the question.4 pop quizzes (3 questions each),which HELP you in the end.One paper worth 10 points.Read, attend class & STUDY!
Mr. Keeling has a great personality, however the grading system in the class is a set-up for disappointment. Only 3 30-point tests and 1 10-point paper. The 30-question tests cover several chapters and the wording is often times tricky. If the grading system were different, I would take it again.
Love Mr. Keeling. Would take him again. Dont waste time studing the book. All test questions come from slides. He says things like remembe this one or look at this twice or come up wih examples for this. So it is clear what should be on the test. Lots of material on each test.
I actually like Mr. Keeling. Very monotone and can seem boring at times but he gets straight to the point. Listen, take notes, and you will do great! Exams are a little hard, but Studying a lot helps, especially if he tells you the important points you need to know for the exam! Class is supposed to be 3 hours long. ALWAYS got out in 1.5 hours!
Second class I've taken with Mr. Keeling and would take a third. I didn't buy the book and got a B. Follow the slides. Pop quizzes are somewhat hard but only counted for 5 points of your grad out of 100. Short essay about any topic in the world relating to labor unions. Tests were tricky. I lot of A, B. C a or b, D all of the above choices.
Professor Keeling is awesome! He tells you exactly what you need to study for tests in his power points. I also found reading the chapter summaries at the end of each chapter in the book to be a bit helpful. His tests contain a lot of material but as long as you have studied and paid attention to him in class you will do fine.
He is very knowledgeable about the field and has a lot of real world experience. Tests aren't bad. Studying the powerpoints is best.
He was a good professor with lots of real world advice. The tests were a little hard but study the power points and you will do fine. I took this as a summer class and thought it was was great.
He is a good professor. He tells you what you need to know for his test. study the power points and you will do good. He does use the book, but I have yet to use it, I just go off the slide shows and I do good on the test. He has one paper 3 pages, easy. Easy teacher, he rambles a bit but he knows his stuff. weird guy, but good teacher.
Mr. Keeling is a great teacher! His tests come straight from his powerpoints and his stories, which are super entertaining.
Great teacher. Really entertaining stories. He knows his stuff. His tests are not so bad, just read the powerpoints. Don't need the book so save your money.
I enjoyed Mr. Keeling's class, he keeps things entertaining. There are three exams and one paper. Not too difficult, but the exams cover 6-7 chapters and are only 25 questions long, so it was little hard to narrow down or pinpoint things to study. I would still recommend, he's a funny guy.
I walked out of his class the first day. I was in my 40''s and new to ODU and was about 60 seconds late for class so he mocked my watch-reading abilities and then found several other reasons to zero in on me during the class. I told myself not to reward him for this and withdrew immediately. I have a pretty thick skin but respect goes both ways.
Funny guy. He likes to make class fun. Covers a lot of chapters for each test so it's hard to know what's going to be on them. They are short so if you miss too many you get a low grade. Study the powerpoints. He passes around attendance sheet. Gives pop quizzes but usually gives you a hint the day before. No homework but there is a paper.
His lectures give meaning to otherwise banal management jargon. He's had extensive and highly relevant career experiences as manager that he shares with you. It's easy to study the slides and pass his tests, but you gotta listen to his lectures to get real value from this class This is an intro course, so the content is more thematic than technical
Professor Keeling is very informative in his lectures. When going through the PowerPoints, he does point out key points that he expects you to remember - they will be on the tests! The tests consist of 27 questions with multiple choice and short answer. Follow the PowerPoints and examples given - they will be helpful to you.
As long as you read the chapters, and take notes on the powerpoint he presents in class you will do fine. He gives clues on what is important to remember for the test. Study the material he presents on the Powerpoint and read those sections in depth. 1 paper, 2-3 pages. Only 3 Exams, no final. Nice guy and very helpful.
If you are taking his class online, do not do it! He does not respond to emails or calls. He is not thorough in his teachings. You are basically reading powerpoint and going for it in the test. Not helpful at all! One of the worst teachers at ODU!
I took MGMT 340 summer 2016 Web Ex. I find that it is a hard course because Professor Keeling grades you on three exams and a paper that is only worth up to 10 points so there isn't much leverage to mess up. Tests are tricky. He doesn't really communicate via email or if he does he will send one word responses like "no" or "yes" so it's best to cal
I have taken multiple online classes under this professor. As long as you listen to his lectures he provides you with the needed information for your tests. Usually one 2-3 page paper to write in each class, but usually let's the student choose the topic. Highly recommend this professor!!
Consists of 3 exams using Proctoru & 3 page paper. The Tests are 27 MC questions and 2 Dis. The average test covers on average 300 pages of content and are very specific questions directly from the text. READ before the lecture and have power points in hand to take notes in class. No tutoring resources offered by ODU for this class
Took it over WC/online. His teaching methods are unacceptable. He is not technology literate, provides nothing but an office phone to reach him, has distant learners MAIL their written work to him bc he doesnt want it emailed. What a joke! Very hard tests covering loads of material. DO yourself a favor and take this class with someone else.
Prof. Keeling's class was tough. The class consists of 3 tests & a 2 page paper. The tests cover 5-7 chapters at a time & are 27 questions. There is a ton of content to know!! He tells you what is on the test in the PowerPoint but sometimes its the opposite. You don't need the book. Just study the powerpoints. An A was merely impossible for me.
Professor Keeling is just simply not a good Professor.. not really sure how else to put it. His lectures are dry and boring, and he crams about 5-6 chapters of material into one test (not to mention the test questions are 27 questions). If you don't pass the tests, you're not going to pass.
Professor Keeling's lectures were very information heavy, and I often had to listen to them twice so that I could absorb all of the information. Your grade consists of 3 tests and a paper, so it's easy to lose a few points and have your grade plummet.
