Dr. Keller is amazing! Outstanding teaching style, and really takes the time to ensure you understand the material. I learned a ton from him, and hope to take more classes from him! Highly recommend!
Great Teacher that made it interesting. A ton of notes were taken in the class but worth it. I would take another class with him.
I liked this teacher. You must be in class to take the endless notes for your tests but I really learned a lot. It was nice not to have to use the book too. As long as you attend class, study your notes, the multiple choice tests are a bit easier. I got an A by doing the above. Don't be late to class though, it is not his favorite thing!
I'm going to be honest. This teacher is so biased. He only likes two types of people on this Earth - Lutheran's and Democrats. I agree that he does know this subject very well, and you take an endless amount of notes. His tests are very hard although he calls them "challenging" I would not take Dr. Keller again.
You need to show up to class and take a lot of notes, but just as long as you do this and study for the tests you'll do just fine. Good teacher and very straightforward and honest.
He is a geologist teaching a class with only two chapters involving Geology. His grading methods are absolutely ridiculous. You could have everything for the essays, and miss on and he gives you a 6/20. He is a joke as a teacher.
Dr. Keller is really knowledgeable and the Environmental Sciences. He is really understanding and he will help you with anything. I recommended him to all of my friends needing a science class.
He is one of the few professors that was able to answer every question asked of him. He knows damn near everything about his subject, which is immensely helpful for the student.If you pay attention,you will leave the class having learned quite a bit. Be warned though, not studying/not attending=Low test scores,which is a large portion of your grade
Barks at the class, "I demand respect!" Sorry, but respect must be earned and this is one bombastic, blow-hard, who demonstrates only a marginal knowledge of Oceanography. Just about anyone can read canned slides to a class, so you don't need Keller's bad attitude. He sucks the pleasure right out of this otherwise highly interesting subject.
Great instructor. Powerpoints are very straight forward, and all exam material comes from them, so take good notes! He's not hard at all if you make an effort and pay attention.
As long as you take good notes and attend all classes you should get a good grade. He gives about 10 homework assignments that are not hard to complete. He is a little gruff but I would take him again. I did learn a lot and he does challenge you to do your best.

I would definitely take him again. He's funny,helpful, and straightforward about his classroom standards and expectations.I would by no means say the class is easy, but it's quite simple, take good notes,don't miss class,study hard,do your assignments on time, and you'll be fine.
All of his tests come straight from the notes. The only thing is that there is a lot studying to do because he covers a lot of materials. The book is not necessary at all whatsoever. There are 5 exams, 10 fairly simple homework assignments (he's really picky about them so don't expect easy A's in this area!)and a final I have yet to take. Nice guy
Don't take this professor, He's an egotistical dictator that likes using intimidation to control the class. all he does is read slides and you take notes. he doesn't review before tests and the tests are ridiculous. and lets forget the $125 you will spend for the text book. then he tells you on the first day that he doesn't use it.
5 Exams, 10 HW assignments include 3 essays, there isn't a TON of work, but his grading system is ridiculous. Last time I checked this was a science class not English. For the tests, I would study hard & have confidence I got an A, to find out I got a C or D. He is a nice guy though, and his classes aren't bad just dont expect to get an A.
Professor Keller is pretty unprofessional in my opinion. He expresses way too much of his own opinion on politics and religion and it frankly makes a lot of people feel uncomfortable. He knows the subject well, and is passionate about it, but as a professor, I wouldn't take him again.
Good professor, had to spend time studying for tests but it really wasn't difficult if you take notes in class. Puts everything that is on the test on his slides, so just pay attention and you'll do fine. Homework isn't hard. He also drops your lowest exam grade. Great class.
He is very funny, knowledgeable and passionate teacher. He knows what he is teaching. Class is take notes and quizzes. For me my problem are quizzes and exams sometimes and most are difficult, but just study hard and take notes and you will do fine!
Professor Keller knows his materials and makes learning fun. As long as you read, study and listen to what comes out of his mouth,you will do excellent. He is a great professor.

worse professor ever! Exams are hard, you literally have to memorize WORD FOR WORD. u__u says he wont judge on your english and grades on your information for the essays but takes off points for not having right grammar. Says "ladies and gentlemen" way TOO much and it's annoying.
If you do not like attending lectures this class is not for you. The class does not require a book. However, everything is on powerpoint. A lot of notes. Miss one day and you will suffer on the test. 6 chapters covered, homework involves essays and small table/research like assignments. ATTENDANCE and studying is a must!!!
Terrible teacher his test are too difficult and t expects you to be a genius. On his assignment he will not grade you fairly he will tell you something is easy and will not explain it at all He will tell you he will give you partial credit but in the end you will end up with a 6/20 or worse I had to drop class

I actually really enjoyed this class. I almost dropped this class on the first week when he told us how challenging it was but honestly I didn't think it was too harsh. Attend class, take notes, study. That's all there is to it. He says you need a textbook but I never used it. tests are tricky and the hw assignments are cake
Even though I got a low grade I am happy I took this class. When you do his homework try really hard because he does not grade easy on them. He is always willing to help if you have questions.
Class was so much fun. There's no use for the book, he will teach you everything. He always says,"Ladies & Gentlemen" & "ok". lol. His exams are tricky, but everything is from the notes!! Just study the material. Also the homework is easy, but sometimes it can be difficult. But he will help you understand it. I recommend this class, it's so fun.
It's really hard class. This professor give ridiculous grade, you never know you will receive 3/20 or 4/20. If you want to pass, STAY AWAY FROM HIM !!
I took environmental science thinking (stupidly enough) that it might be fun haha was I wrong! There are way too many vocab words, the tests are a set up with trick questions (that he admits), he will not let you do any make up work, extra credit, or let you turn in anything late DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR GPA TO GO DOWN!!
This class is HARD! tests are HARD! the homework is HARD! and he is a HARD grader! There is nothing enjoyable about this class AT ALL!!! If you miss a class you are screwed. He doesn't put anything on canvas and everything he lectures about or shows slides about is NOT IN THE BOOK!!.
Dr Kellers class has been a wonderful experience. Yes, he is difficult on the grading however he strictly does this to challenge you and if you put in the effort and show interest in your assignments then results will come! Anyone who complains about this class simply is too lazy to put themselves to a challenge. Lots of knowledge to acquire! :)

He grades homework like crazy, tests are not hard. But really has to study to get full grades.
Keller is a tough grader. The bi-weekly tests are nothing like the study guides. Nearly impossible to get full point on any assignments
Dr. Keller is a tough grader, but this is a college science course, folks. He challenges you. This is not a class you can fall asleep in. You CANNOT study for the exam the night before and expect to get a passing grade. Take all his warning seriously, "it's a difficult class, and the exams are equally as difficult". BEWARE!!!
i drop his class this semester. homework is easy and test is not too difficult, you don't need to study in books, everything is in his powerpoint, study super hard and you will get high score. the problem is this teacher are not teacher, his personality suck and the only thing he want is to challenge student not to let them better .

Professor Keller is a great science teacher, you will learn a lot! He is passionate about science and his style of teaching really makes the topic of Environmental Science interesting. He will challenge you but this is a college science course! Copy the notes the thoroughly, review for the exams, go to class and you'll do fine!
If you like learning about all aspects of science do take this class and you will become much more insightful. Bring a recorder and listen to the lecture again before bed then night before the next class. Read each test question carefully to understand what big picture hes asking. Kind of intimidating but very knowledgeable.
Prof Keller's lectures are very interesting. Extremely organized. Very easy to follow. The class was so insightful and informative that it made me consider to change my major into Env science. To get an A ; never miss class, pay extreme attention to the lecture (if you do, you don't have to study for exams, it worked for me), and be interested.
Even though Dr. Keller is an outspoken liberal, he was one of my favorite professors that I have taken. His class is tough but I'm glad I took it. He tells you exactly what is on the exams, there's just a lot of material. Go to class, take notes and study and you'll pass. Don't expect an easy grade though. You have to earn it.
He is a tough grader, his lecture is long. almost everything from the lecture will be on the test. only way to get an A is memorizing all the notes and do not skip one of his classes, because he does not post anything on Canvas.
Tough grader very hard to get a decent grade, its hard to know how exactly he grades he gives a lot of partial points. Condescending Professor. Avoid this class because he will lower your GPA. many students fail all of his exams.
Dr. Keller is one of the worst professors I've ever had. He isn't a mentour; he threatens his students about what a tough grader he is, and puts us down for our responses to his questions. He asks for your opinion but if he doesn't agree with it, he gives you a lower grade. Doesn't answer emails (I took this course online). Just horrible.
I am taking the online Env 101 class and I will applaud him for giving a very organized syllabus BUT this professor will not work with you at all. On his tests he remarks that he prefers a certain term even if you use one used in the textbook and then marks you down for it! (fertile offspring versus successful offspring). His way or the highway.
Not a mentor. Condescending and short tempered when asked questions. Avoid this teacher like the plague as you will never get full marks on anything and your GPA will suffer. Most students in this class received a failing grade in his first exam.
I succeeded in this class because I'm an introvert who responds well to extreme organization. His power points are so perfect I could cry. He follows the syllabus, you're expected to be in class. Make a friend so you can get notes and assignments if you miss. No need for the book, just take notes. Make flashcards to study. 5 tests, 10 assignments.
I almost dropped this class it was so hard but I'm glad I didn't. This was such a difficult class, but I learned so much it turned out to be one of the best classes I've ever taken. Prof. Keller is tough but he is also fair and will help you out if you ask, which is what I did. Study hard and you will pass, his powerpoints are second to none.
Professor Keller is so interesting! Very knowledgeable in his field, and makes his lectures interesting and funny for his class. You can tell he wants us to succeed, and gives us several opportunities for improvement and recognition. I wasn't interested in ENV 101 and only took it as an elective, but he completely changed my mind and made it great!
Alright. Many people say that this class is hard; however, it is because they either don't write the notes or they don't study their notes. His power points clearly tell you what will be on the test and if you STUDY those notes, you will pass. He gives small little weekly homework, but aside from that he is a great professor who knows his stuff.
This class in not an easy A, however as long you go to class and study for the tests you should be fine. Very interesting class and he's very passionate about all of his lectures. There's a lot of notes and everything is on the test so show up to class! If you put forth the effort there's no reason to do bad. Pay attention and don't buy the book!
Awesome professor! He is very clear when presenting material. This class doesn't require much from the textbook. Get ready to take five pages of notes that you can't get anywhere else! Homework is easy. He tries to create a comfortable setting. He makes it clear he won't tolerate laughing at others if they answer incorrectly. Passionate is a plus!

Syllabus states book is required, save money and DON'T buy the book, as the reading assignments don't correspond to the class. STUDY to pass exams which are full of random trick questions. Overall he tries to torture the class and make it hard.
If you miss a class, you miss out on a lot of notes required for the exam. With that said, this class was very challenging, and he is willing to help you get through it if you do your part. Take notes because he does not upload his lecture on canvas. Start studying a week in advance for the exams and you'll do so good. Homework assignments are fun.

Lots of homework but it's not too hard. Make sure to get all the notes from the lectures and study them thoroughly. I learned a lot. However if you want to take ENV101 as a science requirement & don't care about learning anything, go with other professor.
Dr. Keller is an amazing science teacher. He is very passionate about his work and it is evident in his teaching. You don't need the textbook , his powerpoints contain everything that will be tested. His work is straight-forward and easy to understand. I would highly recommend this class!
I like his lectures- he knows how to make them interesting. And attendance will give you extra credit sometimes. My only complaint is how his exams are formatted (a lot of "both a and b" or "all of the above" answers). YOU HAVE TO STUDY!
I worked very hard on my last test so my grade would reflect that and got the same grade range all my other tests did. Every test averaged to 60 to 63 percent.
Absolutely the worst professor, well not a professor, teacher; not even a teacher. CSN failed in hiring this guy. He did NOT use the textbook he had us purchase. The material he put together on a power point and his hidden opinions are his grading criteria. He also made it clear in his emails and syllabus that he is not approachable or flexible.

He's a cool professor. Although there are 5 exams plus a final exam. One exam is dropped. If you copy all of the slide notes you should be good. I also recommend recording his voice at the same time because sometimes he says things off the slide while you are writing down what is on the slides. THE RED WORDS ON THE SLIDE ARE IMPORTANT but info too.
I dont know what this mans deal is but he is a tough grader!! I would take him again only because I know what to expect but you miss one thing and you fail. Not a good class for someone who needs extra time for tests and prepping. If you are a slow typer dont take this class!!! Every assignment is timed and short. Better choices out there.
One of the best professors I've had. No textbook, just powerpoint slides that are clear & straightforward. Take notes, study them an hour or two and you'll get an A. He's not a tough grader, he's criticalan honest grader. It's all I expect of a college class. If you're a slacker, this class isn't for you, neither is college. Go home and study.
Straight forward man. Knows the ins and outs of the lectures and will give you a clear understanding of what we are discussing. A lot of notes but study as much as possible for the tests.
He has you buy a textbook but all the quiz/test material is taken straight from his powerpoint lectures. Never opened the book. He claims he has "high academic standards" - no, he's just a pedant who makes students struggle more than they should to just pass and forgets to ensure they leave his class learning something.
Condensed material due to taking the class in the summer. Overall, Dr. Keller wants you to learn the concept of the class. Just pay attention, study your notes after class (lots of material), look at your slides (if he lets you take pics of them) and you'll do great. I liked that he challenged us. I read these reviews and still took his class.
Great Professor, I really enjoyed this class, but you will have to work for your grade, however, I have found that this is true for all sciences even on 101 level.

The quizzes are the real challenge in this class. Theres no point in buying a textbook as the material is taught in the lecture. You need to study for the quizzes and pay attention in class and take good notes. If you can do that then you should be fine.
Method of grading is entirely based on his opinion, never used the book once, basically if you don't plagiarize definitions out of his lessons he will mark off points. The only upside to this class is that the professor was somewhat transparent in regard to class test scores, in which the class average was usually below a 65 percent.
Dr. Keller really sets you up for success. He gives you the notes to study, and it's up to you to study and remember the information for the tests. It is seriously difficult to get less than an A on his exams if you studied your notes for the recommended time required. Homework grading does seem based on opinion, but never anything less than a B.
This class is definitely not for the faint of heart. If you want easy, look elsewhere! Prepare to study and work hard for your grade. However, in no way is Dr. Keller a bad choice! As someone who thoroughly enjoys environmental science, I would definitely take this class again! Also, hes always available in his office for anything you ever need!
Makes several things harder than they should be. this is a 3 credit online class I need for an associates of applied science. Quizzes are weekly, 5 Multi Part Questions, usually 2 essay questions and only 15 mins . Quizzes are every 3 or so weeks, online study material is blocked during quiz time. Dont take if you type slow.
I will be dropping this class due to the unfair grading by this professor. He asks for definitions never given as answers on exams. Doesn't give enough time for an exam unless you type 50 wpm. Do not take this class unless you want to fail, 75% of the class is failing due to not being tought the material properly.
The Professor does give out power points, but the way he grades is very harsh. I've felt as if he wants his students to fail the whole time. He will ask for detail in questions then all of the sudden you have no time left and even if you answer the question very fair, "not enough detail" will give you a 2/10 on the question. I don't recommend.
He's the WORST Professor I've had at the school! Save your money and save your brain cells. The exams and quizzes are ridiculous unless you're a transcriber for a court hearing. You need to type 110 words per minute for this course, with all the details he wants in the essay questions and 15 minutes to type up 6 answers. He's a nightmare not cool
This class was a nightmare. Every exam had a failing grade as the average. When there's a Canvas email group with all the students in the class to complain about the professor, you know there's an issue. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR
Id like to agree with all of the reviews in 2020! It seems as if this professor wants to see you fail. He is a obnoxious grader! He tends to ask questions on his exams and mark several points off because you did not apply enough detail though his expectations of detail was not part of the question asked! I should have listened to feedback here
John Keller is the worst teacher I have ever come across. He has a lack of respect for his students and forgets who pays his salary. The reviews sum this guy up. Keller was also mean to three of my girlfriends from highschool school who took the same class with me. Stay Away and report Keller if you experience the same.
I should of researched the reviews on this Professor. If you give him the exact answer from the book he fails you, if you write your version he fails you. John Keller tries his hardest to make this class as unenjoyable as possible for students. I hope this helps my fellow students.
Drop this class if you make the mistake of picking this Professor. The method he uses to grade papers is all down to his opinion. He is also unpleasant to deal with on Canvas. STAY CLEAR GUYS!
Dr. Keller is a damn good professor, very professional and absolutely fair. If you received a C for example, it's because you literally earned a C. If you study and do the material he teaches you - after this class you will be very well educated in the basics of Environmental Studies. JUST make sure you study and do your homework! good luck guys

John Keller was the worst professor I have had so far. The course itself & material was easy. The problem with him was how he graded.. All of the exams never had an average over 68%. The best way to pass is for you to LITERALLY plagiarize his slides pretty much. It was ridiculous bc you could have the right answer, and he can still count it wrong.
The second I read in his syllabus of saying he's not going to make it easy for you and will challenge you. HE MEANT IT... to the point of failing you. Such a miserable class to take, do yourself a favor and withdraw before you cant turn back. Time and Money wasted.
Dr. Keller is a great teacher, but I didn't learn much from him because he spent his lectures writing his own reviews on here. A man dedicated to his craft.
Worst professer I've ever had. It was a tough semester as is, and he did not help. His teaching is clear but grading is difficult. You have to say presicely what he said from the notes otherwise you get points off. Even other classmates messaged me about how they want to get him fired. I don't wish that on anyone but he is VERY tough. Save yourself
Hopefully you aren't still unsure after reading all of these other reviews, but I'll confirm them. Awful, unhelpful professor. Don't expect help. Overly strict and pedantic. Is of the opinion that his teaching style is perfect, and that any issues must be the fault of the students. Apparently there *is* a textbook now, by the way. Don't bother.
If you want to take an easy class where you put in minimal work and receive a good grade don/t take any of his classes. Even if you do everything right he will knock off half a point, and when he keeps doing that it starts adding up. Ive been a straight A student my whole life and I'm in risk of failing. Hes very informative when it comes to the material however he doesnt really specify what hes looking for in any of his papers or in the written responses on tests. I dont know if its just because of Covid and were taking online classes right now but I definitely would not recommend taking this professor.
This level of difficulty is beyond 101. Power points are straight forward but don't be fooled, He WILL doc off points for something trivial like not putting a specific word in a sentence. Be aware his quizzes are timed. Only 15 minutes for 5 questions that has to be full sentences/phrases sometimes there's multiple questions in 1. Very stressful.
Honestly this semester was going fine until the 10 page paper was due I thought I did really well but turns out I didnt and got a C on it. He grades so harshly its not fair I have ruined my 4.0 record with this class. Theres usually no way to bring your grade up and quiz time is never enough so be aware.
His lectures are great. Grading is awful. Hell ask a question or definition on a test, and even if you respond correctly to that question, he will still find something wrong with it, and deduct points for a question he didnt even ask. This is the one class Ive struggled with, and its not because I didnt understand the material.

RUN! I attempted his ENV 206 (intro to climate change) and he is the worst grader. The quizzes are impossible because he doesnt directly ask what hes looking for. On top of that, you have 15 minutes to somehow perfect your answers on questions hes not even asking. I thought I was alone but reading the reviews proves my point - RUN!
Dr. Keller tells you what to expect from the start. He is enthusiastic about this subject and inspired me to feel the same. There is a lot to cover in this course-- it is a 101. He was responsive and helpful. Every one of his lectures was enjoyable and informative. Don't miss a single quiz or exam. Give time for the lectures.

RUN!! Terrible professor and nit picky. I never review anyone on here but THIS GUY SUCKS. 15 minute quizzes with 5+ questions and he expects essays for each question. If you miss a specific word he doxxes a point off. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM. 2+ hour long video lectures and he talks slowly even on 2x speed
Very specific about what he wants to be on the quizzes and exams. You need to explain every single little thing in the short answers. Just make sure to study the lecture videos and slides and take good notes. Content only comes from there. If you follow directions, you will be fine. No homework at all. Emails back fast and grades fast.
When you take his quizzes get ready to rush because he does not give you nearly enough time for all those written answers he wants. Pull all answers directly from his power points if you want to pass. He only accepts the wording that he used. Once you get that down, it really isn't too hard but it isn't fun. Don't get the textbook you wont' use it
Keller is a difficult instructor and quizzes are hard to complete in time. But they are only hard to complete in time if you are not prepared. It's an online class without proctored quizzes and exams, of course it is going to be a bit difficult. Lectures are informative. If he says "this will be on the exam" be prepared to know it. Solid instructor
Online, the tests and quizzes consist of nearly all essay questions without sufficient time to finish. Grading is incredibly nitpicky. Several lecture points covered have been flat out wrong. If no one out of a class of 50 people including several honors students are able to get an A on a test, that's a teacher issue, not a student one.
Quizzes every week, where the questions aren't clear at times, will nitpick answers, essay responses expected in short amount of time with sometimes 5+ questions. 4 main exams + final. 3 Ex Cred, 1 was based on if a basketball team got to the finals, so beyond my control. Book was pointless. DONT PICK, very depressing and stressful semester for me.

Tough grader & interesting class. You won't use the online text, his power points are all you need. Take notes, memorize vocab, and pay attention to the question. He wants you to be SPECIFIC, and use his words. You can't half a** this class, you will not pass. I managed to get a B, but it was not easy. Good luck!
Professor Keller was a tough professor. I didn't read the reviews beforehand. I studied for 4-6 hours for each test, and never received below a B. Do NOT take his class online, the tests are much harder. Do the HW a few days before the due date and get help in campus tutoring labs. If you don't want to put in effort, do not take this class.
All his quizzes and exams are essay questions. He thinks everyone cheats. When you use your own words, he takes points off if not his words, otherwise he thinks you got it off the net. Has no respect for older students whom have real word knowledge. He is clueless to real world issues. He thinks he is better than everyone. Be forewarned.
I will avoid this Prof going forward. Syllabus timeline does not even line up with the tests, so make sure to study at least a week ahead. Accepted concepts he doesn't like are discarded of from discussion at his whim. One answer will be admonished for being too in-depth, while the next will be marked down for a missing detail. Frustrating.
Don't bother with the textbook, he doesn't accept textbook definitions, only his own personal definitions. Tough grader, 12 quizzes, 3 exams. All timed, and you will use every last second. Don't bother asking for help, he can't be bothered he will tell you to just drop the class if you cant dedicate a minimum of 16 hours a week studying. Good luck!
Dr. Keller is brilliant, you can tell listening to his lectures that he's a master on the subject. You don't need the textbook but study the powerpoints/listen to the lectures throughout the week. He is an EXTREMELY hard grader but once I realized that I was able to do fairly well. Go to his office hours and you will like him more, he's a cool guy.
Waste of money getting the textbook for this class. very inconsistent grading, rude, accuses students of plagiarism, disrespectful when communicating, doesn't clarify what is expected as answers for tests and deducts points for silly reasons, doesn't take constructive criticism well, skip this professor! Timing on quizzes is unrealistic.
I'm all for a challenge, but this is uncalled for. I felt belittled with every test I got back. 20 minutes for a test? With out the chance to make it up? No thank you.
Starting with the things that will affect all students, there are only 1 weekly quiz, 4 exams, and a project. The semester project is disconnected from the rest of the class and I didn't use a lot of my learnings for the project so you basically start from scratch. He also changes up grading each assignment and has little empathy
This class was unnecessarily hard considering we were basically only quizzed and tested based on the lecture videos. Grading is very inconsistent. I would not recommend taking this professor but, if you have to, take REALLY good notes and go above and beyond with your answers on the tests and quizzes.
Dr. Keller enjoys your failure. . All of his quizzes are essay format and he expects you to directly quote how he phrased something or he would mark off points. It actually came to a point he took of 0.25 points from one question. For example if you said "Water is cold" but he had in his PowerPoints "Water is chilly" he would take at least 1/2 off.
ENV 206 was a difficult class, but I feel like Dr Keller made it much harder than it needed to be. Don't bother with getting the textbook, just listen to the lecture videos and read the lecture slides. This is where all of his test and quiz questions came from. There is a term paper that's due at the end of the semester.
Lectures and slides are the bare minimum. He's a harsh grader and docks you points when you over- or under-explain something. The quizzes are 15-20 minutes long with a few "short answer" responses, but if you give him a short response, it's not enough for him.
Tough grader. Grades are based on a handful of quizzes, four exams, and a semester paper. Gives you 20 minutes maximum to finish quizzes, however, 3/4ths of the quiz is based on short answer questions. If you're too direct, he will take off points, if you over-explain, he will take off points. Is antagonistic in emails and submission comments.
He doesn't have clear grading criteria. There are no guidelines then asks for more. I went to the tutoring center and got examples (something he recommended) and poked around online but it still wasn't good enough for full points. His grading style is a roller coaster for every assignment. The first exam average was 76. I would not recommend him.

I took his class in the fall of 2023 and he is a tough grader but you need to put in the work, he only expects answers in his own words pretty much. I did learn a lot in his class. He is a good teacher just be prepared to study a lot.
I took Professor Keller in the fall semester. You don't need to buy the textbook because everything on the test is from his PowerPoint. I managed to study the night before for 2-4 hours and averaged a 90 in his class, I don't recommend doing this though, lol. He has 10 homework assignments throughout the semester and they weren't too hard.
Extremely short quiz (20 min) and exam (120?) times where a detailed response is requested along with extreme scrutiny received. Just use the slides and you'll do fine.
I love Env. Science with Dr. Keller. The lectures are interesting, explained clear & concisely. The quizzes are enough time for me. He commented on my exam saying I did a good job when I did not know what to expect from his exams. You need to listen to the lectures and take notes. He is a specific grader, I have noticed this and adjusted to this.
The professor grades Exams unfairly, deducting points for things not even specified in the question. Often, points are taken off without explaining why, and the feedback given doesn't align with the actual question. It's frustrating and makes it hard to improve. If you want to waste a couple hundred dollars than take this Professor's class.
The grading process was unclear and often felt subjective. Feedback on assignments was minimal, and when provided, it didn't help me understand how to improve. This left me uncertain about my performance throughout the course. your answers had to be specific but not to specific or he would take off points.
I read his reviews online and was hesitant to take him. He is, in fact, as bad as previous reviews have said. Incredibly challenging when compared to other professors, if I hadn't gone and learned how to type 100 WPM after the first exam, I don't believe I'd have ended the class with a B. Does not provide enough time in major exams to type out the expected response, vague grading scale, you do not need the textbook, just review slides and study from there.
Hardly any time given for exams or tests especially when most questions on exams need to be written out. On top of this his feedback is horrible and there were multiple questions that were I got it right, but he took of points without telling me why or giving any feedback. Nitpicks every response no matter if correct.
This professor is an insanely tough grader. It does not matter if your answer is technically right, if it is not worded the exact same way that he said it in the lecture he will not give you credit. Do not take this man's class, he wants to see his students fail.
Class only has quizzes and exams. Would ask one question, and would mark down points for not answering a question that wasn't asked. How can I miss points for not answering something that wasn't asked? If definitions weren't as he had worded them in lecture he would take off points. Entire class avg 60-65% a problem that needs to be looked into.
Only tests are given. Completely unreasonable grading! Utilized and studied the study guide he provided and still received a D on the tests. When checking answers against the study guide, the answers matched, but he added on in his responses additional things that were not asked originally. There is no way to please this Professor or to pass class
This professor is so wound up into doing the bare minimum possible and focusing almost entirely on making sure you don't cheat. However the way he does this is inconvenient and irrelevant, and if someone wanted to cheat, they could do so very easily anyways. The ONLY assignments are weekly quizzes, 4 exams, and a project which is an 8 page paper.
Unless you put your absolute all into his classes, it hard to pass them.
He will mark you off on a written response question for something that wasn't asked in the question. He gives low scores on quizzes and claims it was because I didn't put enough details, so when I put as much detail as I could, he said I put too much. If you bring up an issue with him or ask for help, he will give a rude and unhelpful response.
So after taking Dr. Keller, a few things that future students should know. First I'll say that he is extremely proficient and passionate about his field. I could probably have a beer with him. Conversely his grading is a confusing to say the least! But I do believe that an in person option to this class would make it easier and more clear.
I wish I would have checked these ratings before I enrolled in his class. Incredibly unfair grader. I dropped this class immediately after the first week quiz when I saw my grade and his notes. Curriculum includes things are factually incorrect, they are just his opinion. I can't believe this guy has a job after reading these reviews.
Please heed the warning others have given. I don't believe there is a way to pass this course. The class is only 1 weekly quiz and 3 exams. They are all a mix of multiple choice and written answers to ensure no student can get 100%. Like many others said, he doesn't grade factually or even according to his own lecture videos.
