This guy is "AWESOME", I've never had an instructor that know his material like Mr. Kerr. He rarely uses a book when lecturing, and he's very organized. I totally, recommend this guy... one of the best teachers I've ever had.

Go to every class, take notes and you will be fine! Grade is based on a weekly quiz. You will NEVER use the book, don't buy it. Take thorough notes, this guy is smart. Very good teacher!

I found his personality to be a little chilly, so if you are looking for a "buddy" go elsewhere... if you are looking for a GREAT instructor, choose Kerr. Just make sure you attend every class and take notes. He actually makes learning about MAPS fun! LOL I loved his class.

Mr. Kerr can be quite boring, but he does know what he's talking about. If you pay attention to his subtle humor you will find he's actually a pretty interesting man. His classes are very easy as long as you take the notes. You have a quiz every week and no final exam so it's very easy to study, take the quiz and move on to the next one.

Really interesting class. His lectures can be a bit boring unless you are interested in the information but like the other ppl said, the class is easy if you take good notes and show up for the quizzes. No cumulative final or anything.

He is a good teacher-nice, knowledgable, etc. I've never had problems with geography before but ended up getting a "c" He never showed us our tests so I never knew what I got wrong. I showed up, studied everyday?!? I think the only thing that saved me were the maps. Maybe he didn't like me?

I was a little unsure of his teaching style when I first took his geo class, but I grew to appreciate it. In fact, the things that I learned in his class have been very beneficial to me for my history classes at the U of M. Believe me, I ace those geo tests everytime!

Very boring. If you are one thatdrifts off easily, choose another teacher. If you can get past the hour long lectures and mono-toned voice on the other hand, he is very informative and is willing to help when needed. DONT buy the book, and if you plan to miss class you better have someone take notes for you or you will be lost!

Kerr is a great history teacher. I would say 90% of what are on the tests are from notes in class. His voice makes it easy to write down notes as he speaks, and he isn't boring. I plan on taking him again!

He is very knowledgeable. You don't have to go to class every day, but you should because there's a quiz each week on the notes. He has a pretty good sense of humor, too.

Awesome lectures, he has a monotone kinda voice.. but it all works splendidly with his sarcastic undertone.. He's funny and VERY SMART. which makes him interesting.. and the subject interesting too. His lectures explain everything, and they are soo much fun to listen to. Just take good notes and study at home you'll do fine.

John Kerr was a good professor, but attendance is necessary in order to pass the Wednesday quizzes. And map tests are easy if you really study hard. You have to know cities, countries, landform regions, and water bodies on all of his tests. Map tests take place pretty much every other Monday.

Do not take this class if you are looking for an easy class, it takes commitment. There is a quiz once a week and a map test on most weeks. Luckily those are the only grades, no tests or finals. The class is basic but great note taking skills are required. Kerr knows his stuff and so will you.

John is a good teacher and he knows his stuff. If you miss one class you are pretty much screwed. You have a quiz every Monday and a map test almost every Wednesday. Be prepared to take good notes and dont be afraid to ask questions. The only down fall about him is he seems to have no scense of humor.

He really knows what he is talking about, and is genuinly interested in the topics he talks about. Make sure to take good notes, and read the book, because there is always one or two questions on his quizzes from the book. He gives 14 quizzes and only counts 12 of them! And he always has one or two bonus questions on the quiz. It is a great class.

This class is an easy A. You have a quiz every week based on your notes about the info you learn on different countries (14 total) and 8 map tests. It does require you to study, but it's so simple. I really don't understand how anyone could possibly fail. Don't let his monotone fool you, Kerr is pretty funny and he's a good teacher. Take good notes

He's great, gives good information, very easy-going. Quizzes are sometimes easy, sometimes more difficult. Just look over your notes for a half hour the night before. Map tests are easy if you take the time to study. I recommend taking a class with him!

VERY nice guy. Explains everything well. You take a lot of notes and only use your textbook in class to reference what he is talking about. Pretty easy tests if you take SOME time to study. Hes hilarious and always willing to help or re-explain anything. Truly cares (and is knowledgeable)about the subject he teaches.

I Loved this class and had no interest in taking it..Just take good notes and study the maps, he can be very monotone but he is very sarcastic.

I had him for HST 201/202. He's a pretty good lecturer and pretty nice. Most of the material on his weekly quizzes are from his lectures. You really don't need the book to do well, but take good notes and go to class everyday. His history classes are much better than those at EMU. He stays on topic and cuts the crap. I learned a lot in his classes.

By far my favorite!! He is totally an old school teacher, no blackboard, no on-line content, no power point. He uses overhead projector, the dry erase board, and simple quizzes. No papers, no mid-term, no Final!! Make sure you take good notes, and pay attention. He goes totally off his memory, and is not very boring.

Possibly the easiest class I've ever taken at WCC. It's the same thing every day: come to class, take a quiz (over the previous day's notes), take notes, go home. Grades come from multiple choice quizzes and map tests. There's no homework (except studying), no projects, no final exam, no extra credit. Just take notes, study them, and you'll be fine

Kerr is AMAZING. He is so passionate about history, he knows all of his material by heart. He never has to look at notes to know what to lecture about. His lectures are interesting and never get boring. He has a very sarcastic tone to his voice, which makes it interesting if you have a sense of humor. Grade is based on quizzes. TAKE THIS CLASS!

Had him for history 201. The guy is a genius. His lectures are all memorized, and he knows the material inside and out. Be prepared to take a lot of notes! Quizzes every Wednesday, worth 20 points each. You can't make up any quizzes, but you can drop 2. So I would be there on quiz days. Easily my favorite class this semester.

I didn't enjoy his geography class at all, but his Pre-1877 American History class was amazing! You have to attend to get a good grade, but it is well worth it.

Kerr is one of my favorite teachers. I had him for geography and history and both were equally wonderful. If you show up and take the notes and study a bit you shouldn't have any problems getting an A. Everything is from memory, the text books are hardly used so make sure you show up!

Mr. Kerr makes the class interesting by including for each country the current and historical events, solicits questions frequently to confirm understanding, lectures clearly. Test questions are straight-forward from lecture and world atlas. Wish WCC offered and he taught a sequel class!

Awesome teacher! One of my favorite classes so far.He lectures in such a way that the class time flies by. Not necessarily an easy grade though because the quizzes are challenging.

By far best teacher i have had at WCC. nothing more than 14 quizes once a week with lowest two getting dropped. Excellent teacher, presents the material clearly and writes what he says on the board, giving you time to write it all down. All tests are the same style, and everything on them is what was discussed in class, so you don't really need to read the book. He's very approachable and is good at answering questions. I highly recommend Mr. Kerr.

Really enjoyed Geography with Kerr. Really nice guy, and knows the material. He has definitely done his fair share of traveling! His stories along with country's history makes class interesting, really! Recommend this one for sure

Did you ever think a Geography class could be awesome? Yeah, me either. But this one is! Mr. Kerr is incredibly knowledgeable and straightforward. He keeps you engaged, provides you with all the info you need to succeed, the rest is up to you.

I have now had Mr. Kerr for both Geography and History. Both classes have been extremely educational and interesting. He is very enthusiastic about what he teaches and easily jokes with his students. There is a quiz once weekly that have bonus questions and he drops the lowest two scores. Take good notes and you will do great! He is the best!

Solid instructor, he makes learning the material as simple and easy as possible. He doesn't use PP, instead he writes everything on the board. As long as you attend classes and take good notes you shouldn't have ay problems getting a good grade. At first he may seem a bit cold, but give him time.

14 weekly quizzes, worst two are dropped, and eight tests. No busywork at all. He walks in, says "any questions?", and starts writing on the board. He has memorized his notes so he doesn't look at them. What's on the board is your quiz, so take notes on everything he writes and you'll get an easy A. You have to go to class, but it's SOOO worth it.

Mr. Kerr is an incredibly knowledgeable teacher. He seems really passionate about geography and he's big on explaining concepts. Halfway through the semester, I could already tell what an area's main exports would be, what crops were grown there, and where the population concentration would be just by knowing the area's climate.

I Can't stress enough to attend EVERY class session. The notes that are taken in class are used directly for the quizzes that are taken once a week. The class is made up entirely of lecture, but the lecture is informative and interactive. If you don't participate in class it will drag on longer than needed. Memorize all maps and notes!

Mr. Kerr was an exceptional teacher with a passion for his subject. His class is all lecture, which may seem a bit dry, but it's very informative and professionally done. Memorizing notes and maps are a must to pass the quizzes and tests that make up your entire grade. Attending every class isn't mandatory, but it is necessary. The class was great!

If you study and take notes, his class isn't that hard, in my opinion. I gave him a "4" instead of a "5" in easiness because some people seem to have had trouble with it so far... But I think that it depends on your aptitude for Geography. The book he uses was like 16.00 on Amazon, so you can't go wrong there.

Take notes, study them, you don't even need the book. He gives a 20 question quiz at the end of each class. If you studied your notes, you will find it easy. I have never liked history, but he made me very interested in it. You would think after 2.5 hours of non stop talking you would be bored, but his class is any thing but ...

I had Mr. Kerr for my history class. Once adjusted to his fast-paced teaching style, I LOVED his class. He is very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. The only grades that go into blackboard are the weekly quizzes, two of which he drops. If you listen carefully during lectures and take good notes, you will do well!

He does his job well. He is very clear and knowledgeable about Geography and gives good notes. Study 15 minutes a day and you'll ace his class. I didn't need my book.

Good long lecturing. Graded by a quiz and test every week so its really up to the student to study. Did not use online tools to show grading. Instead you would have to write down the score he gives and calculate it out yourself. He was nice.

Mr Kerr is very clear about expectations for the class. There is a quiz every class, so attendance is important to pass. All quiz questions are based on the previous class lecture, so if you take good notes, you will get good grades. Good instructor.

Prof. Kerr's class was very straight-forward. There were weekly quizzes about his lectures, and every other week we had a map labeling test on the countries we learned. Not hard if you listen in class, no homework given. He's very knowledgeable about the material, teaches all his lectures from memory! Very happy I took him, an easy painless class

If you have a problem with getting to class on time then don't take his class. Weekly quizzes that are extremely easy. However, if you show up late and more than half the class is already done with it than you don't get to take it and you get a zero. He does drop your 2 lowest scores at the end which helps if you miss a quiz or 2. Awesome teacher!

The most laid back class I ever took!

He was good at giving very thorough information for the presentations. He goes pretty fast but he answers questions after the presentation. It was a very laid back class.

One of the best professors I've had. He is very clear on grading and gave a couple extra credit opportunities. He also drops your lowest test score and replaces it with your highest score. Responds quickly to emails. As long as you pay attention and take good notes you will do well. 10/10 would recommend.

Proffesor Kerr was amazing! He gives very good lectures, but if you skip class, you will miss the lecture, so you have to be in class. John is a great guy and is helpful. However, you cannot ask questions during class (only at the end) and there are only 4 tests, no homework or extra credit. The tests are hard and based on 4 lectures, 1 minute per question. If you missed a lecture you can rewatch it. If you're bad at taking tests or have ADHD, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.

As my first class back after taking a year and a half off due to covid, this was a great refresher. Very straightforward, right from the start he makes everything very clear, his lectures are always easy to understand, and he's a very nice guy. Entire grade is based on (fairly easy) quizzes/tests though, so don't take if you're a bad test-taker.

He knows the material really well. Not a traditional presentation of the material, however. There are 8 map tests and 14 quizzes and that's where your grade comes from. He doesn't use blackboard but he gives you the grades and there's no curving so what you got is available to you at all times. He is really sweet & understanding. 10/10 recommend.

I would 100% recommend John Kerr for this course. He made the lectures and material super entertaining and he made a multitude of funny comments. He encourages participation, but it isn't necessary to pass as long as you show up for quizzes and map tests. Make sure you take good notes and enjoy his teaching technique!

Mr. Kerr is a great instructor. I took his class in spring and learned a lot in just 8 weeks. The class/grade is based on 7 quizzes and 6 map tests, which are fairly easy if you take good notes, follow along with lectures, and study maps. Don't miss class or you're missing out on content on quizzes! Overall, he's a great teacher. Take his class :)

I took both GEO101 and HST201 within the same semester with Mr. Kerr. I definitely wouldn't recommend taking both at the same time especially if you have other time commitments/classes. Other than that, I learned so much and found his class structure to be great and straight forward. Quiz heavy, but he gives the resources to do well. 100% recommend

I took Professor Kerr's GEO 101 class and really enjoyed his lectures. He was very knowledgeable on the subject and would often mention his personal experiences traveling and how they related to what we were talking about. 100% take Prof. Kerr if you need a credit in geography!

The main thing when having one of his classes is going to class. In my class, there was a textbook assigned, but he told us word for word " If you come to class we will cover 99% of what is in the book, so don't worry too much about it."

Very light content. Good deal of memorization, but lectures were so sparse of content you could practically memorize it as you went. Plenty of stories and experience to go along with different parts of the world. Basically multiple choice and matching. Easy to know exactly what will be tested, but need to attend lecture or copy notes.

Professor Kerr's GEO101 class is pretty straightforward - just take good notes and prepare for the quizzes and map tests. While the lectures can be heavy, he's a knowledgeable instructor who makes the material engaging. unstuck AI is a great study tool to supplement your prep for this class.

Had absolutely no homework assignments; you just have to study for quizzes. Attendance is absolutely mandatory. If you miss a test, you cannot make up for it (besides map tests), and you are strictly graded on tests/quizzes. As long as you show up and take notes, you will succeed. Professor Kerr is kind, knowledgeable, credible, and understanding.
