Dr. Knox is the best teacher I've had at UGA. His class was early, but I still made it every day! He really wants his students to succeed and will do whatever he can to help them, and that is why he is a great teacher!

How can you hate this guy? This was one of the most fun courses ever. The class gets EASIER as it goes on (though the first test can be quite challenging), and all of the tests are 50 question, multiple choice. You'll love this class!

Be well-prepared for his tests, they can range from easy and straightforward, to a bit tricky and difficult. Overall, a very good teacher/guy, though, and is recommended. Tries to make a boring subject a bit more interesting, which is also good and sets him apart from most of his teaching peers.

This guy is great. He has a true passion for teaching and will do whatever it takes to help you succeed. His classes are clear. No trick questions on the tests. If you go to class you are guaranteed an A.

this guy is nuts. haha he tries SO hard to make this class fun, and while the material is a little dry, you learn a ton and he is a great guy. tests are mulitiple choice, 50 questions, book doesn't really help -- stick to the lecture notes.

The class is always interesting. He gives extra credit which is good but the tests are rather difficult. He does give study guides though, which help some.

KNOX ROCKS! Dr. Knox is an incredible teacher, the best I've had. Get to know him because he wants to be in touch with his students. You never know what he'll do next in class. Whatever it takes to help his students and make class interesting, he's willing to do it. The class was moderately difficult, but that doesn't really matter with this class.

Amazing professor!! Makes a boring subject easy to understand and really cares about the students. Tests come straight from study guides that he goes over before the test. Get lecture notes, attend review days, and memorize the study guide and you're set for an A. He is hilarious too; some of his demos will be the most worthwhile part of your day!

This guy is hilarious. Go to class, you'll have a really good time. He makes this topic interesting and fun. His tests can be hard but if everyone does bad he will curve it. I made 92's on the last two tests. He checks attendence like once a month so you don't have to go to class if something comes up. I recommend taking him.

He's really, truly one of a kind- a great professor. You can tell he knows a lot about what he's teaching, and he has a sort of cynical sense of humor about him that lightens up class. A good professor, but the class itself, at least in my opinion, wasn't as interesting as I hoped/thought it would be. All notes posted online which helps, and the study guide and review helps a good bit too. Very nice guy (encourages office visits and gives you extra credit for them), but I found myself dozing off more than occasionally.

Dr. knox is a funny guy and is very prepared for class. his notes are on webct and attendance is only checked sometimes and randomly but he drops the lowest attendance grade. it was not all that interesting and it was harder than i expected but overall he is a good teacher.

knox does EVERYTHING he can to help you do well. he provides study guides, notes online and drops your lowest test. the text is not really necessary. he focuses on how the class will help you in your everyday life... big concepts are important. if you pay attention in class and study your notes, there is no reason not to get an A.

he puts the notes on webct so you dont have to pay attention in class and he only takes attendance on rare and random days. he gives you you good studyguides and the tests are all multiple choice

KNOX IS THE COOLEST TEACHER EVER! go to class, attendance is important unless you want to get a bad grade. his lectures are fun most of the time. lots of videos. and his corny jokes make things interesting. he tries to get to know you personally through out of class talks (for extra credit!) if you want an easy AND fun science class, GET KNOX!

Knox is an excellent professor. He is very interested in the subject, and it really shows. He's helpful and wants you to do well, I would recommend this class even if you're not a science major - it fills the science part of the core and a lot of what he teaches is helpful in real life.

I managed a B- with average studying so I am sure that you can do well but it will take more time than you think. really loves geography and teaching it to students. he's a little weird, but that's what i would expect from a geography teacher. but he's really a nice guy & makes class fun and uses awesome examples. his tests are hard, but that's just because the material is tricky. i would recommend this class, dr. knox is a cool guy.

Prof. Knox is a great teacher. He is interesting and easy to follow. He gives review sheets for his test and final. If you read the text and do the review sheet you will do very good in his class. He has a party for his class and gives extra credit (.5 added to final grade). I made an A in the class and would recommend it to anyone.

The GEOG 2110 honors class taught by Dr. Knox was a great deal of work, but was never unmanageable. He is an excellent teacher and researcher, and is also a great person to know. I would strongly recommend his class to anyone, even if geography isn't one's strength. I added an AB in Geography as a second major only about 6 weeks into this class

He's a really interesting teacher and loves to goof off in class, but don't let this fool you! His tests are really difficult and there is a final. I would recommend another teacher if you're not really interested in the subject.

I love this class! Its not an easy A and it does require a lot of study time before tests but Dr. Knox gives review sheets that are really helpful. He tries to make the class interesting and gives illustrations to make the material more memorable. Overall I would recommend this class even if it is totally unrelated to your major.

First and foremost-DO NOT BUY THE BOOK!!! it's an extreme waste of money. ALWAYS attend class on fridays, read ALL the notes he pus up online, and attend the extra credit class visits and you're set to get an A if you study hard!

Professor Knox is a very passionate teacher. He goes out of his way to help students understand the concepts. I entered the class completely uninterested in geography, but now I find the subject matter fascinating. The book is not necessary if you go to every day of class (and pay attention, although most lecture slides are posted online).

Do NOT leave UGA without taking a class from Dr. Knox. The class isn't an easy A, but if you do the work an A is extremely possible. I learned a lot from this professor, and I am more interested in geography than I ever have been. You don't really need the book, and all the lecture notes are online. Awesome teacher. Dr. Knox will make you work for you grades, but his class really was the most enjoyable class I had this semester. He goes out of his way to help students understand the material and he is truly passionate about teaching. Not to mention, he's a major research award winner. Very fun teacher, he is very helpful if you ever have a question or just want to know your grade. He gets to know his students. Fact or Fiction fridays is his way of taking attendance so he recommends you come to class on fridays because he uses it as a quiz grade as well as attendance. Highly recommend!!!!

Great professor. Good sense of humor if you are smart enough to pick up on it. You can get an A if you just utilize and complete his very very generous study guides for tests and just do the reading assigned for homeworks. Very interesting subject even for those who are not planning on going into this field. Great professor, great guy, I recommend.

Definitely one of my favorite classes ever. Dr. Knox is very enthusiastic and explains things in relative terms to make it easy to understand. However, it is not an easy class per-say. I did the best when I kept up with the book and went to class. He does do random attendance checks. I would highly recommend this class! Very interesting and fun.

He LOVES the material, and you can tell, he gets into it. You do not need the textbook. Posts all notes online. The study guides are always really thorough and helpful. Study hard though if you want to make a good grade. No work outside of studying for tests.

Knox wants his students to succeed but be cautious. This class is not easy, at all. Dr. Knox is highly driven by emotion. Take another teacher if you can, but if not - Dr. Knox is funny, intelligent, and caring.

I'm not a science person at all but weather really interests me. Knox really cares about his students and tries his best to put things in the easiest perspective. You're going to have to read though because that's where the test questions come from. The tests were pretty difficult as well. 50 minutes to answer 50 questions. I learned a TON though.

Dr. Knox is an awesome teacher! He's actually the author of the Geog 1112 textbook which is pretty cool. So obviously he knows the material very well so therefore he crams a lot of information into one semester. The tests are difficult, but are fair. Don't need the textbook unless you want to read as an extra form of studying. Take Dr. Knox!

HOWEVER, I took an INTRO level course and studied more for it than my upper-level classes. The tests are difficult and the material is HARD to master. Dr. Knox is extremely passionate about his work, but he expects everyone to be just as passionate. I took this class as an easy phys-sci requirement,and it was anything but easy. The class itself could've been an easy one but I recommend taking it with another professor. Dr. Knox is a really nice guy, the class was just harder than it needed to be.

Dr. Knox is incredibly passionate about Weather and Climate, and was a fascinating teacher who made an otherwise uninteresting course as interesting to a Marketing major as could possibly be. He is easily accessible and truly wants you to understand the material and succeed. That being said, I found his class overly difficult for an intro course.

VERY HARD CLASS. If you don't love weather and climate as much as Dr. Knox, SAVE YOUR GPA. There are 3 tests and a final in the class, and everything else is weighted very little. Tests are very hard, they not only question your knowledge of the concept, but knowledge of how to apply and use the concept too.

He won an award for his teaching for goodness sake! He's awesome! His lectures and the examples he uses in class are very helpful and the little assignments are actually fun to complete. If you study, the tests aren't bad, although I know some people struggled. There are extra credit opportunities and he has an end of semester party at his house!

Johnny Knox takes something as common as everyday weather and makes it interesting for everyone. He has the feel of a high school teacher in that you can walk up to him and start a conversation or ask for help. Tests are NOT hard if you just read and study occasionally. He also invites students over at the end of the semester for free food!

Knox is a great professor who makes this really boring subject somewhat interesting. His lectures are engaging and he's easy to listen to. My problem was you need to review this stuff on your own and the textbook puts me to sleep. His tests are harder than they probably should be but he's helpful. The writing assignments aren't hard at all.

Dr. Knox's class is a lot more rigorous than a typical intro class, but he makes that perfectly clear in the syllabus and pulls no punches when discussing it, so no real surprises. Study the lecture notes he puts online, as the tests can be difficult. He's very passionate, knowledgeable, funny, and always willing to go the extra mile for students.

FYO with Dr. Knox was awesome. He really cares about us (even if it took him the entire semester to learn names). He's quirky, but extremely intelligent and wants to help Freshmen succeed throughout their life, not only his class. Gives great advice and answers any questions you have about the university. Very little work outside of short readings.

I took his odyssey which was helping him make his textbook an eBook, and it was great. He spent a good deal of each class asking what we needed or if we had any questions, and I loved that. I could tell he cares about his students and truly wants them to succeed. If I needed to take GEOG course, I would definitely take him.

Dr. Knox loves his students more than anything, but I came into the class looking for an easy A. The class is extremely hard, and you need to read everything that is given to you. If you don't go to class, you will miss his fun lectures and him explaining all the concepts you need to know. Tests are very hard.

Dr. Knox is absolutely incredible. I've never had a professor who cares more about his students or loves teaching more than he does. If you pay attention and do the work, you'll be totally fine, and he will bend over backwards and more to help you. He's a total dad and loves to make weather fun.

Dr Knox is an extremely helpful guy. He's available to talk about whatever you want during his office hours and will try to help you with anything. He understands students' workload really well, too. I had him for FYOS so I can't judge how he grades most things, but he is a great teacher.

Really cares about his students and wants to be there for freshmen as they transition. Great storyteller and hilarious with lots of great ideas and is v knowledgable. Is very open to feedback and encourages participation - would highly recommend especially to incoming freshmen. Also great to go to as an unofficial adviser.

This class was very difficult and I mostly struggled with the tests. But Knox will go out of his way to make sure you do well, but only if you come to him first. He gives you plenty of opportunities for extra credit, like up to 2.5% added on to your final grade. I wouldn't recommend this class but I would recommend Knox.

Dr. Knox embodies what every professor should strive to become for their students. He would always be welcoming during office hours, would provide interesting stories and demonstrations in class to help learn the material, and would shape the class structure to fit the students. Never have I had a college professor care so genuinely for his students. He doesn't offer much extra credit, but he tries to help every student the best that he can. Dr. Knox encourages participation and his door is always open for questions. He structures the class to benefit his students, and he's very knowledgeable about what he's teaching.

The class isn't as hard as people make it out to be because they're not studying correctly. Sit in the front of the room during lecture, take good notes, review notes posted online, and study the study guides for tests. Knox is an amazing professor, genuinely loves what he's teaching, and wants the students to succeed.

Ive had 2+ yrs experience with different college professorsDr. Knox is easily the kindest professor Ive ever had. He has office hours multiple days a week, gives extra credit opportunities, and will respond to any questions you have over email. Attendance isnt required but you should go to class if you want to understand. Highly recommend.

One of the best professors on campus. He's smart, funny, and very caring about his students. Tests and homework aren't terribly hard, and he's always available if you need anything.

Dr. Knox is seriously the kindest man. Basically Santa but nicer. His class is VERY difficult, so don't go in thinking this is an easy science. Very challenging, but if you study HARD and go to class, you should be okay. Final is cumulative so pretty difficult, but he holds review sessions and wants you to succeed. The class however is NOT an easy intro class. I wouldnt bank on an A unless you work really hard (expect a solid B if you keep up with the work). AWESOME prof, hard class.

DR KNOX IS AWESOME! However, Geog1112 is sooo hard. I finished with a B+ after studying A LOT. Weekly homework can be tedious, but it does help learn the topics. I never skipped a class although attendance is not mandatory. Dr. Knox gives good study guides before each test, but they are in total about 250 questions. Great teacher, hard class.

Dr. Knox is the sweetest man I have met and truly loves his job. Utilize his office hours- he even gives extra credit for going. His homework assignments are online built into reading that are easy. Dr. Knox truly loves his job and makes his class fun! He writes his own online textbook and if you read it consistently and do the homework it will help your grade a lot. He gives very detailed study guides for exams and reviews a bunch. If you don't put in the effort it is possible you will not do as well as you wanted to.

Dr. know is an amazing teacher and truly cares about everything he is involved in. I will say if you are taking this for an easy elective, other teachers will make the class easier but you will learn more in this class. The class is mostly just him talking but he makes it fun with wild examples like him dancing. He is a great guy and want to help.

John Knox's class stressed me out a lot in the beginning of the year. I went to every class but my attention span was limited because its a lecture heavy class. He posts all of the powerpoints online. He is a really nice and understanding teacher. Study the study guides before the test and you will be fine.

Dr. Knox is a super nice guy who is obsessed with his subject. His tangents eat up LOTS of time from the lectures and review sessions. Packback and Sapling homework was a hassle but easy 100s. The tests are kinda hard but all multiple choice. Take advantage of extra credit and the study guides and you'll be fine.

This class isn't hard but you have to know what he thinks is important. His lectures were boring. He assigns textbook readings that are beneficial because his lectures are about 50% wasting time and then 30% random information and 20% content. So you have to learn the content yourself and then apply it to the stories he tells in class for tests.

Professor Knox is the best professor I've had at UGA so far! He is such a genuine person that cares about his students and wants them to do well. Everyday there is a lecture but he does his best to make it enjoyable, and attendance is up to you so people tend to skip because powerpoints are online. The tests can be difficult but not impossible.

A really awesome guy! Classes can be boring sometimes because they are strictly lectures, but he tries to make them interesting since he is interested in it himself. I rarely used the textbook since his tests are mostly based on his notes. Study hard for his tests!! They can be surprising regarding their difficulty, but if you study, you'll do fine

If you are interested in Physical Geography, I would expect this would be an easier class for you. As someone who struggles with the subject, I found Dr. Knox very helpful. He is very passionate about the subject and tries to make his students feel the same. I had to study a lot to understand the subject matter, but Dr. Knox was always very helpful

He is such a sweetie, definitely a dad professor. However, there is only a mid-term and cumulative final grade wise and the tests are not easy so you have to know the material to be able to pass. He cares a lot about the material, but there is a good bit of outside work you must do. Not an easy A by any means but very sweet and caring professor.

My friends and I in the class like to call him our "dad" professor because he genuinely cares about all of his students. The reason for this class being somewhat difficult is that the majority of your grade comes from one midterm and one final exam (there are HW grades and a forecasting thing but no exam). BUT TAKE DR. KNOX CAUSE YOU WILL LOVE HIM

Yea um this is not an intro level class at all. Do the homework because it will save your grade but the only two exams in this class are hard. I showed up to class and studied and still had no idea what the exam was asking sometimes. He is a good professor and cares about you the class overall is just hard.

He is really engaging in class and you can tell he really cares about the material. The assignments can be a little difficult because you really have to read and understand the textbook. A lot of students take this just for the credit and it teaches you helpful information, but it is not super easy.

By far the best professor I've had, really cares and makes lectures fun and interesting. Content is pretty hard but 50% of your grade is generally easy homework and tests are open note so that really helps. Showing up to class really helps to learn all the content so do that a decent amount and you'll be golden.

Wouldn't recommend if ur just trying to fulfill a phys science req, but if youre willing to work, have genuine interest and/or just want to meet a great professor this is your guy. Super accomodating and offers a ton of office hours. 60% of the grade was some form of homework (that was very doable), one midterm, one final. Awesome guy all around

Professor Knox is by far and away one of the best professors I have had at UGA. Be prepared for a lot of information when taking the class, however, he makes the information really fun to learn and it actually is a really cool class to take. He is always open and caring to students and it was easily my favorite class at UGA.

Do NOT underestimate this class. I heard this class was easy, but the homework is weighted so much that it messed me up in the end. Also, the study guide/homework is easier than the tests. I thought it was going to be an easy A, but I ended with a 79 and he wouldn't bump it. He is a good guy though; I just didn't apply myself enough

Hands down one of the best professors I've had. You can tell he's really passionate about the subject, and he makes it easy to understand, even though some of the concepts can be tough to wrap your head around. Homework was fairly repetitive, but easy. He is also very quick at responding to emails and truly cares about students.

knox is a very sweet professor who tries to get to know every student. he is very passionate about what he teaches and tries to make lectures interesting. try to build a good foundation with packback/tophat hw bc the midterm/final are the only grades besides those. there's a lot of content in this class but pretty fun.

Professor Knox is a great guy, and you can clearly tell he is passionate about what he does. I really enjoyed his class, but don't expect it to be easy. But as long as you stay on top of your tophat and Packback assignments you should be fine. Go to his office hours! He is a really interesting guy, and gives extra credit for going!

Both the professor and content were awesome. To understand why and where the wind blows, why it rains, the atmosphere, storms, etc is amazing. Dr K is an inspirational tenured professor who is tops in his field of expertise. I would have to rank this class in the top 3 of any classes taken at UGA.

Professor Knox is an excellent professor and person. He always gave a 5-10 minute break every class period and plays music. There are weekly textbook readings with questions and discussion posts but they are not that much work and are very manageable. The midterm and final were online and open note.

professor knox is so funny and an amazingly kind and understanding guy. he made his class very engaging and posts all his notes online so if you miss class or need to review it's available. he makes an effort to know his students and is great at his office hours. super passionate about his career and clear about tests and online work

Professor Knox tries his best to get to know his students. He is super personable and fun. But I will say, this class is a LOT harder than I thought it would be. There are only two tests, both online, which I found to be super difficult. Definitely stay on top of all of the HW because it's the only way to help keep your grade up. Posts his lectures

Mid term and final were difficult but the weekly participation and book work helped to boost your grade. Office hours were extra credit as well which was helpful

All of Professor Knox's students can tell that he is passionate about what he is teaching and cares about you. He is very personable and is more than willing to help. There are weekly tophat readings with questions and discussion posts, but it is not hard at all. The only tests are the midterm and final exam and they are both online.

You are basically graded on 4 things: packback, tophat, midterm, and final. Packback and tophats are easy 100s and those account for like 45% of your grade. The midterm and final are online, untimed, open everything, and you can take them from anywhere. Dr. Knox is a caring professor who makes lectures engaging. Easy A if you put in the work.

He is a great professor and very lenient. One can tell he seriously enjoys his job. Class is very easy as long as you do the assignments. Would def take again.

This class is easy as long as you do the weekly homework. There is 1 midterm and 1 final that are both online and open internet. Would recommend to take Dr. Knox.

Dr. Knox is a great professor, couldn't recommend him enough. Make sure you do the Packbacks and tophats, focus on the exams (which are really easy) and you'll do great! He's also really nice to talk to and a really nice person/professor in general!

The notes from lecture are posted online after every class so if you miss one its nbd. He is super fun and caring about his students. There was an avg. of 1 chapter and packback a week but they weren't hard- you just have to do them. Midterm and Final were online and open note. I didn't attend class after the midterm and still got an A in the class

Amazing guy, easy to get an A. I almost never went to class, but just did my weekly work. Every week you have a reading and a discussion post which take 1 hr max. Do that and do decent on the online finals (open textbook) and just double check your answers with the textbook and getting an A is easy.

Dr. Knox is the bomb! He definitely understands that most people in this class are taking it as a science requirement, and his policies reflect that. Attendance is not mandatory. His lectures can drag, but it's the content, not him. Tests are online and open note. Online textbook through TopHat. One PackBack a week. Extra credit from office hours.

Dr.Knox is awesome. He cares about his students and his work. The class was graded by assignments, a midterm and final, and a project. It wasn't incredibly easy, but if you show up a decent amount and do the assignments it's not hard to get an A. I looked forward to his class and really respect him as a professor. Would take again.

Dr. Knox is an extremely caring individual. He also tries his best to make even the most boring topics, fun. The final and midterm are both online open internet. You usually have to complete a discussion every week as well as questions in e-textbook. If you go to office hours he will give you .5 added to your final grade.

Professor Knox cares about his teaching and it is very obvious. He wants to get students involved and he is very accesible outside of class! Not a very difficult course just make sure you stay on top of work!

Take him!! Tests are open internet but still challenging, so use the study guide. There are other easy assignments that will boost your grade—Tophat questions in textbook readings and simple Packback assignments. Also, attending office hours gets you extra credit.

Dr Knox is the best! He is super easygoing and entertaining, even if the subject is not one you would be interested in. If you want to take this class, be sure to come to class most of the time! Super sweet and really cares for his students. Despite it being a 300 person lecture, he seemed to know almost everyone's names that showed up regularly. Open internet/note exams that are a little tricky, but with enough googling/looking at slides you can eventually find the right answer. Highly recommend for an easy science credit!

Take Dr. Knox! He is so kind and wants to get to know his students. His lectures are interesting and he genuinely cares about the class and his students. He is very easy to communicate with and willing to work with you. The midterm and final are online and there is minimal homework.

I am horrible at science and managed to get a good grade. Final and midterm are open note and have no time limit. Only assignments are Packback (write one question, respond to 2 questions) and the textbook multiple-choice questions. These are worth 20 percent of your grade to help boost it. Even though attendance is not mandatory you should go!

There are not too many assignments outside of class as long as you due them before the due date you are good! mid term and final are hard but open note. Attendance is not mandatory but it really helps when it comes to the test and he tries to make the lectures not boring!

Every week there is just a tophat and packback homework and that it. the rest of the class is based on your test scores which are open note and open for multiple days. I would definitely recommend this class if you're looking for an easy course.

Dr. Knox is the best professor I have ever had. He cares about all of his students, made it his personal goal to get to know everyone in his 300-person lecture, and strived to make his lectures enjoyable enough that people would still attend despite non-mandatory attendance. Still, people took advantage of this and now he will never teach it again.

Knox so very clearly loves what he teaches. He made both the midterm and final online and open-note, even though many students took advantage of this. He won't be teaching this level again, but I'd absolutely recommend him for any others; he makes his lectures very engaging and fun (coming from someone who isn't a geological science major).

Dr. Knox's love for weather is palpable. He made a great effort to engage all the students. The class requires a weekly packback, tophat, and a weather forecasting project (plus midterm and final). By the end of the year he expressed feeling used so I hope he incorporates some new practices to limit this as I don't think it was the students fault.

Hands down best GEOG professor at UGA. Unfortunately he is not teaching 1112 anymore after Fall 2024, but I would take his class again in a heartbeat. Amazing guy with amazing lectures, which have interactive elements which make the easy material easier to learn. Grades are boosted by free A online textbook stuff if you flop on the tests

John Knox is a caring and passionate professor! Though I'm not big on the sciences and usually struggle in that area, Knox is an understanding and accessible professor who makes learning easy and fun. Go to his lectures, they are always engaging.
