One of the best teachers at New College! A must have teacher for atleast one class! Smartest guy I know! Soooo cool.
John in awsome...really good teacher...he is not that formal so it makes class a lot easier...he is also very approachable...and very clear...and all around good guy...
John is brilliant, interesting, helpful and knows his sesquipedalians.
John is not only clear in conveying ideas to his students, but he is one of the more approachable, understanding human beings I have encountered in my life. He is frank without being inappropriate and is willing to accomodate virtually all students to help
Professor Krapp is awesome! I would definitely recommend him for any class. He is exceptionally approachable and wants students to do well. He is not a harsh grader, but you do have to do work.
Amazing professor
He's the man, makes class intresting and not that hard of a grader on test
In my opinion, Prof. Krapp is by far one of the best professors teaching at Hofstra University. If anyone ever has the opportunity to take one of his classes, take it. It's not only a pleasurable learning experience, but an honor to be in his class.
He is very helpful. He is available to u when u need him. He does give out short essays every so often, but they are on interesting and they make u think. The reading he gives is kind of hard to understand, but he explains it well. I deff. would recommend this class to other people.
He's really the best professor i've had at this school so far.
He is awesome .. i really don't know if i know any professor this intelligent. He is very helpfull and is a very fair grader. His classes are a little tough if you dont keep up with the work
John is one of the most helpful, kindest professors I have met. He goes out of his way to help you, he makes it clear on what he expects from you, and most importantly, he treats you like an adult. He is also a pretty funny guy too. All in all I definitely recommend John as a professor. He's GREAT!!
brilliant
John is by far one of the best teachers at Hofstra. He is very understanding when you need his help with an assignment or a general issue in college/life. He doesn't judge student which is a big +, and like to get to know his students which every teacher should do! GREAT TEACHER!
krapp is adorable..not to mention knows just about everything. he's a very atypical prof / doesn't care about rules and regulations. hes amazing!!! TAKEEEEEE!!!!!!
i love youu jon! hes brillant, articulate and very understanding. wonderful! take!
i have no idea what people are talking about him being attractive or being a good teacher. he's a cynical philosophy teacher who actually told a kid to be a plumber because you make more money. he has a high amount of attitude and i would rather drag myself across hempstead highway than be near him.
the most fun class ive ever taken. so funny and allows lots of creativity. sooooo helpful and interesting... all we do is talk about random topics in class and hand in easy assignments and u get an A. take him- hes an awesome teacher
off the hook!!!
Tired of pointless discussions in his class. I learned nothing.
If he is teaching HUHC ever again...Take him, hands down. He does not give much work, and his classes are intriguing if you want to go and participate, if not then just go to sleep. He will not care.
i adore this man. he's an amazing professor and his teaching style is awesome. makes c&e not only bearable but interesting.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER. CHANGED MY LIFE. I TOOK ONE CLASS WITH HIM, AND THEN CHANGED MY MAJOR AND MADE HIM MY ADVISOR. CLASSES ALWAYS INTERESTING AND HE IS THE THE MOST SINCERE AND UNDERSTANDING PERSON I EVER MET. GREAT TO DEBATE AND GREAT TO BE LECTURED BY. TAKE AS MANY OF HIS CLASSES AS YOU CAN. I SURE DID
Great teacher. The best I came across at Hofstra. I had him freshman year and liked him so much that I took two more classes with him. He's the best! He makes learning fun!
He's an amazing teacher who will do anything to help any of his students. All you have to do is ask!
AS AN ALUM NOW I WISH I HAD MORE TEACHERS LIKE JON
No Comments
hard subject but Krapp made it fun and simple. Literally the most amazing teacher I have ever had. Brings his life into a lot of things, extremely down to earth. Compromising, helpful, all around great guy and professor-highly suggested. Hey, hes still my advisor!
by far, one of the best teachers i have ever had. he is a genious. his class is interesting and you learn so much. i would suggest to anyone to take as many classes with john krapp as you can.
This guy was amazing. He made a class with boring texts a total pleasure to go to. He doesn't want to see anyone do poorly, and is more than willing to help out if you have problems. Take as many classes as you can with Prof. Krapp. He makes school bearable.
THE BEST TEACHER EVER!!!! Took such a boring class and made it interesting. Relates everything we learned to current and interesting topics. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
Professor Krapp is amazing. He mad a dull subject interesting and easy to understand.Hope I have him next semester.
By far one of the best professors I have ever had. C&E is bad enough but he made it worthwhile and I would take abolsutely any class that this man teaches. He's amazing and nice!
By far one of the smartest professors at Hofstra. He makes the worst topics bearable and going to class is actually a pleasure. Take as many classes with Krapp as you can, even if they're not required. He's AMAZING !!
HE IS THE BEST TEACHER THAT HAS EVER WALKED THE PLANET!!! He should teach everyclass hofstra has to offer
He is a smart man but not as good as everyone says he is. I took think class because he got a good review, and Im so mad i took this class. If you are easily influnced you will think he is amazing ! he teaches you to think for yourself, but he only wants you to think his opnion is the right one. His grading is not good at all.
awesome person and professor, take whatever classes you can get with him, makes the most boring subject an interesting subject, do your work and put effort in and you'll walk away with a good grade.
Freshman Seminar He is not jesus despite what some people may have you think, but yes he is a good guy and very helpful. The class is a pretty much one big free discussion, and if youve ever read a book that didnt have pictures in it youll find something to be interested in his class.
I took pretty much everything he had to offer when I was an undergrad. Not only did he have a profound influence on my life, but I have recently met another prior student of his which said the same. Truly a humble individual with so much to offer to developing minds.
Incredible guy. Helpful, approachable, & fun. His class was amazing, and if he were teaching any undergrad courses next semester, you'd better believe I'd be taking it. You can go to him to talk about class work, or anything that piques your interest, he's an awesome guy all around and I highly recommend taking any class he has to offer.
he's an amazing guy, funny, makes the calss enjoyable, but he sometimes can go off topic which gets annoying. Also he roots for the underdogs which is great but never shows attention to those who actually work hard in the clas. grading he's fair
By far the best professor i've had at Hofstra. A very genuine and passionate teacher who is extremely helpful and understanding. He's one fo the few teachers who's honest goal is just to get his students to learn something, he's easy with deadlines and just tries to engage the class. You'll learn a lot and you'll genuinely enjoy every moment.
One of the best professors at Hofstra! Laid back, very fair, willing to help, just ask, and understanding, drafts for papers aren't required but do them! He will tell you everything that you need to fix, which really helps! I thought I would hate philosophy, but he made it a class that I actually looked forward to =]
One of the best professors I have had at Hofstra. He is extremely nice, easy going, helpful; Very fair grade-wise and he is very good with re-writes on papers. I would definitely take another class with him again.
Hofstra is so lucky to have this man as a professor. Hands down the best professor I ever had and I'm an Accounting and Finance major with 155 credits under my belt...why can't Prof Krapp teach Accounting or Finance as well???
John is an amazing and genuine person. He is approachable and so eager to make you think. His lesson plans are thought out, and he certainly teaches everything he can. He is such an inspirational person, and he does not even try to be. He's extremely humble about his wisdom and talent as a teacher. Definitely recommend taking ANY class with him.
The greatest professor at Hofstra. I looked forward to going to each and everyone class. He really cares about his students and wants you to do well in anything they want. And excellent person to just sit and talk with. He is a fair grader and has no problem changing a grade if you can prove why. I wish he taught in the school of communication.
This guy was the bomb. The most fair and reasonable professor at Hofstra, I looked forward going to class every day because he really cared about making each lesson interesting and useful to our lives. There was a lot of work involved, but it was always creative and outside the box. Take Krapp if you go to Hofstra!
He is a great guy, and he cares about his students. I just did not really enjoy his class because of the subject and what we had to read. Other than that he is a great professor. He really knows his stuff. He doesn't give an overwhelming amount of assignments. Its all fair in his class.
TAKE HIS CLASSES every day this guy blew my mind. i actually looked forward to going to class cause the material actually helps you with every day life. you only do 3 papers and no quizzes and gives you the final in advance to study. take him
Professor Krapp was the best!! Out of all my professors last year he was my favorite because he allowed us to think freely and openly about whatever was on our minds. He inspired me to become a better writer but more importantly, a better thinker.
He is very knowledgeable and thought-provoking, and his class exemplifies what a college class is supposed to be: an avenue for encouraging critical thinking and effective writing, and not a spoon-fed reflection of bureaucratic mandates. Unlike some other C&E professors, his idea of a good paper is not spewing back his beliefs. Highly recommend.
Krapp is the man! All what he ask you to do is read the book he assigns. Papers are easy just make sure there are no grammatical errors. He will proofread it if you ask him. If you just need the distribution TAKE him he makes class easy and interesting
HE IS THE MAN! Best professor at Hofstra his readings are sometimes tough but he is very clear and easy going. He is always there for you whenever you need help! Generally a very nice man and keeps a good class going! Love him!!
It was tough class for me as someone that is not into literature, but he is the nicest guy and if you read the books and pay attention, you should do well in his class. He wants you to succeed and you can tell he loves what he does.
I adored this class and this professor. He is so real and the least intimidating person ever. I am taking a 9 am class my senior year in order to experience his class one more time. He is my favorite professor at Hofstra (and that's really saying something since I'm a double major). You won't get a better teacher or experience.
I took Professor Krapp's Ethics and Literature class with no background in Ethics and I absolutely enjoyed his course. He makes class interesting and everything he teaches according to the novels he assigns is fully comprehendible. If you're having a tough week he will give you extra time on a paper if you talk to him about it.
The best professor to take for c&e. Class was always interesting and he lets you write about whatever you want on the papers. He picks great books and is always clear in what he wants you to get out of them. Get philosophical throughout the semester but nothing that's impossible to understand. Would definitely recommend!! Super nice and funny.
Professor Krapp is an amazing, funny and genuine person. He is supper approachable and he genuinely wants you to pass his class. His lesson plans are thought out and it honestly makes the class so much more interesting because he CARES. No matter what class of you are taking, I recommend him, just as a professor. He is the best.
Dr. Krapp is a great professor. I did not read any of the books for his class. As long as you take detailed notes and highlight the quotes he goes over in class you will be fine. His class is fun challenges you to think in new ways. He is a great professor, I highly recommend him! One 6 pg paper and 3 little essays. His final is 8 essay questions
I'm really shocked at a lot of these reviews. If you are easily influenced, you'll think he's great. It's subtle, but he's actually VERY manipulative. His feedback on essays is insubordinate and lacks depth (ironic because that's exactly what he says in class). He's extremely tangential and critical with students. Also, he doesn't deserve the chili
Bruh he's a cool guy, so nice, very understanding, cares about his students, I would definitely recommend taking any of his classes!
Prof Krapp honestly cares about every student he has. He tells the funniest stories and relates it back to the topic at hand. He knows a great amount about the topic he teaches. You can tell he really loves his job. Take this professor, you won't regret it!
he is really tough. Gives low grades no matter how much you try and put in the work...
I enjoyed his class so much! He always gives an amazing lecture, not just about the texts we read but also about how they relate to things we see in everyday life. I'm not a reader at all, but I left the class learning something about each piece of work we read. His grading is clear & fair. He's willing to help you if you ask him for help.
Take him for C&E if you have the opportunity. He's the nicest guy I've ever met in my life AND he genuinely wants you to learn and do well. Workload is reasonable, he's super funny and gives amazing lecturesU
Dr. Krapp is probably my favorite professor I've had so far at Hofstra, which is really saying something because I hated C&E. He grades very fairly and you can still do well without reading the books, as long as you put in the work on the essays. The workload isn't bad and his classes are very interesting (although tangential). Take him if you can!
WOW if you wanted another glowing review, here you go. I've had him for 2 classes, and he never failed to impress me. He appreciated new opinions, loved questions, and was overall a nice, smart grader. His lectures were sometimes repetitive (you really learned his likes and dislikes), but I use so much of what I learned in his class. Really cool.
Prof. Krapp assigns really good books to read. But he assigns a lot of pages to read that it makes it hard for the not so great reader to keep up. If you enjoy reading and want to hear new takes on the books you read in his class (about 4-5) you will love his class. He is really easy and nice to talk too which made the course fun for me!
Class is tough(read 90 pgs in 2 days), but worth it. He grades you on 3 novel TH essays, one long TH essay, and a final. We read controversial books. Lolita is a screwed up novel that rationalizes rape. It's absurd piece of dark fiction that I hated reading, but I am glad I did. Prepare to question everything & learn about the evil side of ethics.
Dr. Krapp is a great professor. Hes truly passionate about what he teachers and really helps students who need a little more attention. He grades really fairly, and he really teaches you how to be a better writer as a whole: not just for his class. Hes also a very chill, cool dude to have a conversation with if you need to go to office hours
He is amazing. I never took any classes with him before but this was an excellent decision. I love him so much. He was caring (of his students, his job, your grades), approachable, incredibly intelligent and articulate. He's wise, funny, and one of my favorite professors. I looked forward to Mondays and Wednesdays because of him.
A very nice and wise man, definitely recommend his class I learned so much from it there is at times alot of reading but its doable. Definitely would take his class again if I could
John Krapp is a wonderful teacher, professor, and academic. The material we went through in class was very intriguing and had depth. The class made me question myself and my own ethics. Would retake or recommend again and again.
I am not exaggerating when I say he's my favorite literature professor of all time. I'm not one to want to take literature classes but since I had to, having Professor Krapp was a blessing. The man is not only well versed and educated, but extremely reasonable and thoughtful. He's been in our shoes and makes life as easy as possible for us.
Best literature professor in the game. Extremely reasonable man. Always working hard to make his students' lives easier and he makes his time available to help us in all aspects, class related or not. Would take him again, no question.
My favorite professor I've taken, and I'm a Psych Major, not big into literature. His discussions for me were extremely thought provoking and interesting. "I don't find any joy in failing anyone" I saw him 6 months later and he remembered me and said he'd really like to hear how I'm doing, and I was never one to read or ask too many questions
Excellent professor, one of the most educated professors at Hofstra. All he wants it to teach his students objective facts so they can decide their own opinions. Reading is a lot, and he is a strict grader, but if you talk to him and work it out, he gives you what you deserve. Recommend. I learned a lot about Marx, Nietzche, and Freud. Funny, smart
I really enjoyed Prof. Krapp's class. He gave excellent feedback and was super accessible. He will take time to help you with not only questions about class but with anything about college like registration and other things. He's knowledgeable and inspiring. He's clearly passionate about what he teaches and I would most definitely take him again.
This professor is a great person as a whole, he does care about his students and their goals but he is a really tough grader. He kind of expects a lot out of a simple question and you almost feel like its never good enough.
He's an amazing professor. The best i've taken so far. He enlightens you on so many things. And you will learn life lessons from him! You will have to read but he goes over them in class so it's not hard to understand even though most of the reads are written in archaic diction.
Krapp is probably my favorite professor at Hofstra. Gives great feedback and his lectures are really interesting. I learned a lot with him & became a stronger writer. As for participation, as long as you show in some way that you are reading the material he doesn't force you to speak in class. I've taken 2 classes w/ him so far. 10/10 recommend!
He is by far the best professor Hofstra has to offer. He cares so much about his students, gives really engaging lectures, is open to questions, feedback, and concerns. He is very intelligent, and really knows how to teach.
My favorite professor I ever took at Hofstra. I graduated as a Finance major, but Dr. Krapp's classes were by far my favorite. I had the privilege of taking 2 of his classes. Amazing lecturer and gives valuable feedback to improve your writing. Work hard, go to his office hours and you will be successful. Improve your writing with this class.
I had the pleasure of having Dr. Krapp for my first semester at Hofstra. He is a very educated man and knows how to teach his subject. He is extremely flexible as long as you reach out to him. I fell ill during finals week and he was extremely understanding and patient. He treated everyone with respect and ensured we were always clear about things.
I really enjoyed Professor Krapp's. You have to read a lot, but he is available anytime you need help. He is one of those professors that really wants to see you succeed and is willing to help you in any way he can. Would definitely recomment.
Holy Krapp!
Dr Krapp is super knowledgeable and makes even the really dull readings easier to understand. Participation and attendance are important. Gives great feedback on essays, and always willing to set up meetings outside class. Really laid back, but good at getting information across. Very responsive by email. Knew everyone's names by end of first week.
I thoroughly enjoyed CLL014F with Dr. Krapp, and would implore anyone at Hofstra to take it. Dr. Krapp himself is an incredibly profound individual, and his lectures are extremely insightful and thought-provoking. The reading can be a bit overwhelming at times, but Dr. Krapp is there to help you understand it line by line every step of the way.
Dr. Krapp is an absolute genius when it comes to course material and can talk about any topic for hours on end. He can practically explain all the texts even though we only have to focus on the Social Sciences aspect. He's super nice and very straightforward. He assigns 3 writing assignments along with a final paper and a final exam, all online.
Professor Krapp is a great professor and I thoroughly enjoyed taking his class to hear him speak. However, his grading gets tougher as the semester goes on and there is very little room to not participate at least once every class.
Professor Krapp is a fantastic teacher and person who cares a lot about his students. Class is all papers but his feedback is great and you will become a better writer after this course. Take Krapp if you can.
His class was easily one of my favorites this semester. He has really interesting insights on not only the assigned readings for the class, but also the papers handed back to him. I'd take his class again in a heartbeat
Professor Krapp is one of the best professors at Hofstra. He really cares about his students and wants you to succeed. I would take this professor again and again if I can.
3 essays on very creative and open subjects. Reading is manageable. Lectures provide deeper insight into the text's we're reading. Super relaxed regarding deadlines. Criticism is well-constructed and chances to improve your grade are plentiful. Awesome Professor and Person. Take him!
Krapp is simply the best. Deserves more than 5 stars. One of those professors who genuinely cares about his students & is willing to go the extra mile to help. Genuinely interested in your thoughts and is open to out-of-the-box ideas you have for assignments, etc. Take him if you can. You will really learn a lot if you just listen to him.
Professor Krapp is a wonderful professor. His lectures are very interesting. Most of your grade is based off of essays. Participation also is a decently large portion. Just pay attention and participate and you'll get a good grade. His feedback on essays are also extremely helpful
An amazing teacher, havent had one like him in a very long time. Take him if you are able to you will not regret it. I will be taking another class with him next semester
Caring and makes you think why you're getting an education. He's also funny and always clear on his presentation. Discussion is always great in class. My class was light so it was an easy A. But I did learn some good stuff from him. I think he's still exploring how to best teach. Take him if you can.
Professor Krapp's class is challenging but rewarding. His lectures are engaging, and he provides helpful feedback. I found unstuck study a great study tool along with the textbook. Take this class if you're willing to put in the work - you'll become a better writer.
I hope he realizes that he is more than just an amazing professor. He's someone who cares about his students and encourages them to think freely rather than strictly follow an agenda. He's open to debate any subjects and if you have any issues, he is extremely understanding. 11/10 professor.
One of the best teachers I've had. The material is easy to understand. All he asks is that you do the readings and email your thoughts. There are 3 papers (one is the final), usually based on prompts where he just wants your perspective. He's very accommodating, won't cold call or force participation, and wants everyone to succeed. You should take
Very intelligent professor. Papers only. He's more than happy to schedule time outside of class to discuss your papers. No actual work outside of papers. 1000% recommend.
Really easy class. Great dude who enjoys what he teaches and allows us to follow along.
Best professor at Hofstra. As someone who hates writing, I loved his class because we were given the freedom to write about whatever we wanted. There is a short speech at the end of the class, but he's very flexible with how it's completed. No HW besides 4 essays + final essay, just readings.
Very tough professor. Cool dude, but would not take this class ever again. I do not recommend this class for students who are science majors.
