Very hard test, a lot harder than he said they would be, small number if any grade A's in the class, very lively though.
taught a 205 class like a 400-level class, test questions were hard (answers a,b,c and all of the above, none of the above, or more than one of the above - on all mult choice tests), interesting class, good prof overall
John K. is tough. BS PoliSci, JD, & PhD What do you expect, and he lays it own that he is the man! Good lectures! Verbos! But salient. Uses multiple choice exams. Busy man, teaches at NCCU-Durham & part-time NCSU-Raleigh, no office hours or office, a negative. Other wise, you have to step it up a notch. He's giving you a dose of Law School!!
Great professor. Very tough with hard tests but if you do the reading and study, an A is do-able. Lively and makes class interesting. I reccommend this class and professor
Interesting lectures, he makes it fun to come to class. Hard tests but if you read all of the material and print slides from the website you will do fine.
Hard tests. I thought i was going to get a b+ or better and ended up with a C. I don't know how that happened. but whatever. at-least its over. Oh, and i didn't think the lectures were interesting. Quite painful actually.
Very good, but hard.
Very tough but great lectures. Enjoyed the class.
Kuzenski is fun. He always tries to make jokes and uses strange examples. The important thing is that if you don't like reading case studies then you won't like this class. If you are interested in law take this class Kuzenski is a practicing lawyer and draws from that in his teaching style. Overall good class, but make sure you do the work.
Extremely hard teacher, but you learn a great deal in class. The tests are very difficult and worded with A, B, C and then D and E are 'some of the above' and 'all of the above.' Do your readings and study every day and you could probably make an A. Good guy, wretchedly hard as a professor.
Very difficult but classes were interesting and I didn't mind going. If you put a lot of time and effort into studying and pay attention to what he talks about in class, you will do just fine. Getting an A would require above and beyond work, but I would recommend this class to anyone who is interesting in learning about law from someone who cares!
Great teacher! Learn alot but has high expectations coming from a guy that is a Lawyer himself
Couldn't stand going to his class. Very boring lectures that made me want to pass out. Tests are very tricky and he requires a 17-20 page paper that will make you want to shoot yourself. Definitely takes 300 level to 500 level. I would recommend taking this class with someone else, even though I pulled out an A.
Great teacher! High expectations but he is passionate about the material, funny, and is willing to work with students who put in effort. Lectures are fairly unstructured so I suggest taking notes. If you want to be lazy, this is not the class for you but if you want to learn a lot then I highly recommend this professor.
The guy is really passionate about his subject but I feel as if he doesn't realize the average business student can't handle the amount of legal speech he uses. He often goes off on tangents and I feel as if the, sometimes, 40 line or more forum posts he has can be summarized. His tests are extremely hard and very in depth.
Tough grader, not clear, is not willing to help you with assignments if you have questions
Dr. K is awesome, one of my best but admittedly more challenging courses at State. Lectures are pretty straight forward, but you have to listen and take notes. Cant just skate by with looking at powerpoints. Struggled at first, but asked questions and visited during office hours- he's really responsive & helpful and I'm doing great now. Work & win.
Lectures are incredibly boring and he writes about a novel on every slide on the power point. Yes he's extremely educated on the topic, but he acts like everyone is as informed as himself. If you like 15 page instructions on difficult case study assignments with impossible legal diction, then you'll love this class. Kuzenski makes you work for it.
He's really really nice! and he's also very educated about the topic.. but he doesn't realize that he's teaching to business students not law! He helps you but his test are the toughest thing i've ever done... prepare to read a lot!
Might have cursed him after the midterm- but now studying for final exam I realize I've learned more in 305 than in most of my other classes. It all sinks in and keeps making more sense. Lectures & powerpnt slides are def. high-level language sometimes, but worth trying to wrap head around. Kuzenskis a good guy, doesn't judge, approachable.
I enjoyed the course and professor, and would take other classes from him. It's a lot of material, and he doesn't "dumb it down" a lot because I don't think anyone can, really. I read, kept up with short (and easy) homework, came to class and listened, asked questions which he answered, did fine with grades. He's interesting, nice, helpful.
Prof Kuzenski is an ok guy- puts effort and a little humor into classes, tries to keep subjects relevant with real life examples. It's important to keep up with assignments. I put in average study time, saw him or assistants a few times, emailed questions or posted on moodle and got helpful answers. A- result. Def not a course for slugs, tho.
He is extremely knowledgable and expects students to be too. Once you understand the material, the class is pretty easy though. Only a couple of tests and he doesn't post his slides online so you better write it all down.
Very knowledgeable in the subject matter! Professor Kuzenski expects you to put in the work, but if you do, you will definitely feel as though you gained something from the course. Be sure to read and keep up with the notes!
I was wary of other reviewers on this site so I decided to take the class online. Worst mistake I have made at NC State so far. I will have to say Dr. Kuzenski is passionate about the subject but he takes a 300 level business course to an entry-level law course. His lectures are full of jargon and extremely detailed but irrelevant examples.
Spring 2016, best class I've taken at State and best professor at opening my mind. Walked out of the final exam thinking I understood better what college really was all about.
the biggest thing to figure out about kuzenski to cope with class is that he's trying to make a "foreign" subject understandable as much as he can, but you have to do the work. Prof K is helpful, super nice guy. Cares a lot, smart, has standards, doesn't suffer slackers or excuses, treats college like college. I liked it- forced me to think!
This is probably the hardest 300 level class in Poole. Professor Kuzenski did his best to make this boring subject bearable, but what it led to were long, rambling lectures. You have to study the lectures and read the textbook as well as take copious notes, or else you won't do well in this class. I crammed for exams & scored in the 65-75 range.
Dr Kuzenski is a really nice guy. You can tell that he is passionate about the subject but this is just overall a really hard course. It seems like an intro law school course and you definitely have to put in a lot of work just to get 70s on the tests. Homework assignments aren't too hard. Tests seem easy while taking, but I always got around a 70
He makes you work for your grade, but after finishing this class I realized how much I learned. English is not my first language, so sometimes it was tough to understand everything. First class at NC State that was about the level I am used to from Europe.
Last reviewer hit the nail on the head. I sweated it at times trying to figure some stuff out, but Dr. K was always approachable and nice in helping me figure it out. Short assignments and clicker questions are easy if you pay attention in class. My roommate took the online Wake Tech class and is now sorry he did so. I'm not sorry about mine!
Literally the hardest class I've taken at NC State. Take at a community college if you can. Kuzenski is really knowledgable about the subject, but expects you to be an expert as well. Super tricky questions on tests, and hardly any time to finish the amount of questions he gives you. Just take this class somewhere else.
The material is tough but the the tests are always fair. Worth skipping to go to Wake Tech? Absolutely not. I feel like I have learned more in this semester than I would have at another other college taking the same course! Lectures are really interesting and if you read the chapters before hand and pay attention lectures you will be fine.
About to finish the semester with a good grade in 305, and all I really did was got the assignments in on time and came to class and listened and took notes. Dr K is an enthusiastic prof, really knows his stuff, respects student questions, always helps if asked. Just make an honest effort. Thought I'd be bored by law, but might be my fav class now.
This was by far the toughest and most boring class among the 300 level MIE/BUS courses at NC State. I would highly recommend taking this course at a community college, especially if you are not interested in pursuing law after undergrad. Requires a lot of work outside of class, and removed online lectures the day before the final without warning.
Last review is BS about removing video lectures without warning. I was in the online section too and prof warned in Moodle, didn't even take down until the morn of exam (i was using them at 6 that morning). I liked this class, maybe would have liked being in the live class more for the interaction. Keep up w/assignments and read, and you'll do fine
Grades released, I got next highest fm what I expected! Doc has bonuses, "free miss" exam q that act as a curve, etc. Do the easy little h/w assignments and come to class and listen so you can answer easyish clicker questions. That will help if you have a bad exam. 305 is a longer hike than most Mgmt classes, but good content & well taught.
There are plenty of resources to prepare for the exams. There is a lot of unfamiliar information that does require putting in the hours to learn but the class is organized well. Expectations are well defined and fair. HUGE extra credit opportunity at the end of the semester. Prof does send an email warning about the lectures coming down before exam
This turned out to be one of my most interesting classes so far. Went into it kind of worried, because it sounds imposing. The professor is a great lecturer and clear, with good examples, and is also helpful with quick message board and email answers. Online course, I would have liked taking it in person if I could have.
I learned more in this class than in any other business class, and I forgot most of it by the time the final exam got here. But what I think is the little I remember reliably is still way more than Ive learned in any other class. It's intense at first, but it makes sense by finals time. Professor and TAs are really helpful. Just do the assignments.
One of the best professors in PCOM! So knowledgeable and committed to making sure you understand the logic behind the law. Super nice and accessible outside of class. You have to come to class, but he makes it enjoyable. My strategy was to read the chapters, take notes, and make a quizlet of that.
If you are considering a summer class, please do not take this one. He sends out an e-mail telling you to start viewing lectures before the last semester has even ended. I understand that due to a short amount of time, material is condensed, but it is just way too much (6-7 lectures in one week)!
Turned out to be my favorite class in PCOM so far, and I started using things we learned in class in my own and a friends startup. Sometimes easy, sometimes tougher and requires more work, but Kuzenski gives you a great road map of how to succeed at beginning of semester. I followed it and had no problem making a solid A. Great lectures.
I just accepted the internship Id prayed for, and my new boss said they were most impressed by my knowledge of organization and contract issues (the division ill be in). Those interview questions were what ifs like some of Dr Ks quiz and exam questions, so its ALL good. Glad I took this class when I did and professor taught the way he did.
Spring 2018, good class. At first it seems like we just learned chunks of stuff as in other classes, but by midterm its clear that early subjects build to later ones. Tests take some serious preparation, but the professor is a nice man, funny, caring if you struggle (just ask for help & youll get it). I feel smarter, anyway!
By far my favorite professor in management so far!! I took mie 305 (business law) honors this past semester and he was super enthusiastic and engaging in his lectures. You definitely should read the textbook, though and I would write notes before class because he talks a lot and he talks fast
the class is not good for a summer session! claims background knowledge isn't needed but it is.. too much material and not enough time to understand it.
I read the book carefully and asked a bunch of questions on Moodle message board and in person. Dr K was great about responding and always wanted to help. I started with a bad grade or two but B+ to finish due to grading method that helps slow starters fix problems. Good PCOM course for core, and the best prelaw class at State.
Summer 2 , I was worried about 305 generally and especially about the condensed summer version. It turned out to be pretty good, with lecture videos for teaching + Prof was really responsive and helpful with emails and message boards. Tough subject and I had to work for it, but I mean its college so ok. :) Dont be afraid to ask for help.
MIE 305 turned out being my favorite class, and I got a better grade than I thought after smoke cleared from the final exam and last assignments. Kuzenski is one of the most sensible, respectful and helpful professors at NC State. I wish there were other business law classes to take with him.
simple thing about this course AND the professor: there are rules and deadlines, and dr. k is ok, just plays it straight with you from the beginning, doesn't put up with excuses/tricks I see regularly in other mgmt classes. It's actually kind of refreshing. Study, & don't assume you've got it all after one quick readthrough. You probably don't.
Subject matter not terrible but tricky. DO NOT TAKE DURING THE SUMMER. Its only a 5 week course and you are graded upon watching 6-7 hours of lectures each week on top of reading. He was not responsive at all, multiple students asked questions at least 3-4 days in advance of the final, but never responded, leaving many students confused.
Summer 2, manageable. There's lots of work in the short summer semester, but the professor lays stuff out well and was responsive and helpful when I asked for some study aids mentioned in the lecture videos to the spring class. I learned a LOT. I hope it all stays with me for the final exam now.
Took the course for a summer session, be prepared for 5-8 lectures a week (if you take the course over the summer). Overall, Kuzenski is a fantastic professor, lots of examples and personal experience is incorporated into the course. The material is interesting but overwhelming. Probably should have read the book.
So I highly recommend taking this class online: more flexibility/control, unlimited time to answer the lecture questions (unlike in person), and we've gotten "freebie" points added to each exam. Yes, this class is challenging no doubt, but I think reading the book is overrated. MASTER THE PP SLIDES and you should be in decent shape (then do book).
He knows his stuff and his lectures are great- he explains things better than any professor. However, the tests and tophat questions are very wordy with lots of details that make it confusing. GO TO OFFICE HOURS FOR EXTRA CREDIT AND HELP. He's really nice and will work with you if he sees you're making the effor. Material is interesting too
Super nice & smart guy, loved the class before COVID, learned more than any other class. His online courses are infinitely harder than in person. Once online, 4 hr lectures for a class that only meets 2x/week. Control freak, syllabus over 30 pages. Tests q's are riddles. Grade distribution shows one A out of 40 people. Read textbook cover to cover.
Enjoyed the class before the pandemic. The online format got 10X harder than in class. So many online lecture videos that take around 5+ hours a week. Tests are extremely difficult for being the first law class many students have taken. I read the textbook for every chapter and studied for 8+ hours for each test and never saw improvement in tests.
I get that COVID changed the course, but stressing out students by recording them taking a test with a sketchy lockdown app, and then making a buggy confusing test for a final is crazy. Tough grader, controlling, adding more work after switching to online, the only teacher for MIE305. Poole needs to find an additional/new professor for this class!
Just got final grades, excited, roommate got a nudge up like syllabus says. I enjoyed the course a lot although wish we could have been live all semester. Dr Kuzenski did a lot to make being all online less sucky than my other classes and was always helpful & encouraging. Useful information, great lectures for a big class.
Extremely tough grader whose tests are extremely difficult both online and in person. When we switched to online, the course got 10x more difficult and he changed the test structure because he is a control freak. Tests are riddles so be prepared to get a C regardless of how much you study. He doesn't understand not everyone is a law freak like him.
The class is laid out well with easy topics first, then into harder ones. I enjoyed the lectures and learned lots more than I thought maybe I would. The prof was really helpful in office hours and email, and was really supportive every time I asked something, even off topic. One of my favorite classes, but it does take some effort at times!
Go on amazon and get yourself a punching bag cuz i'm pretty sure I developed an anger issue. He is just super strict and smart that he makes questions really confusing. Law classes are already confusing and he didn't need to make this class even harder. Lectures are entertaining and he's a hilarious professor overall.
Really nice guy and was pretty responsive to me outside of class. Do not take the summer session, he compacts a normal semester into 5 weeks and makes it seem like it's the only thing you have on your plate. Webcam monitoring during tests, 30 page syllabus, and timed lectures... I would take at a community college if possible.
All I have to say is that his questions are paragraphs long. Not a few sentences long but a paragraph long. Good thing that there is a pass/fail option for this semester.
Dont know final grade yet, exam tomorrow. Tough course but really well-run for having to be online, Professor Kuzenski is helpful, quick to respond, made good efforts to give us live Zoom sessions to review with him, respectful of students and funny at times! I learned so much in MIE 305, turned on to the subject. Worth the effort.
Took this class online in summer in a 5 week course, it was too much! Had 11 lectures/week! Take it online during the semester! He makes it as understandable as possible. Tests are tough, he does curve though. Grade dist. shows one A out of 40 people!!! Read textbook! He's a nice guy and very funny, but too much information at once. Great prof!!
This course is tough but if you attend the review sessions you'll get some extra love at the end of the semester. I'm glad I took this over summer so I can do the S credit & not have the course count towards my GPA. Toughest course I've taken in Poole but I learned some good information.
I was scared to take this class because of how hard I heard it was. Turns out, it's not bad at all. Just be prepared to read the textbook and study. The textbook goes into depth that the lectures do not. The material can be tricky at times but Dr. Kuzenski explains everything very well. He responds very quickly too. This class isn't bad if you try.
Take it from a retake student, I bombed my first time because I didn't do two things I'm doing this time around. 1. read textbook, listen carefully to lectures (even online), use TA. 2. follow directions in guides, syllabus. MIE305 requires more discipline, effort. Professor was really nice when i got back in the course, and helpful. Good guy.
Be prepared to take about 6-8 hours of your week if you want to simply just pass this class. Do not take online. Do not take his class at all especially if you have 4 other classes.
TO HARD!!!!!
Get ready to sit back and cry for the rest of the semester as you start your first day of class. The syllabus is a freaking book of how much of a control freak he is, if that doesn't say something about a professor I don't know what will. Quizzes and tests are hard asf because he doesn't give you enough time to take them. Thank god for pass fail.
My issue with this professor is due to the fact that everything in his course is overregulated. You can only take a certain amount of time to watch lectures. Very hard tests with little time. Forced me to take an exam at 6 am due to employment, and took 15 points off my test for drinking coffee. Passing this course will be challengin, due to prof.
Worst class I have taken at State! The structure of the class is terrible. Lectures, hw, everything is timed & you are graded for the questions you answer as you are learning the material. Tests are incredibly hard, closed-note/book and you are monitored through a webcam. A lot of the important material is not on the slides so it is hard to study.
get ready to read the whole book and spend a lot of time taking notes/studying. Overall the class is straightforward, you just have to study every little thing and be sure to read the book! Mr. K has little sympathy for students and is very cut and dry.
Do yourself a favor and drop this class right away. Makes tough material harder for absolutely no reason. For a mandatory class for Poole this course is insanely hard. Time limit to watch the lectures each week. Has a 6am to 12:15pm time limit to take the freaking exams. Take this course at a community college or find another professor.
Dudes awful. Run.
Hard class, but you learn a lot.
There are questions you have to answer during the lectures as you are learning that are used for grades. The questions are TRICKY. I do not recommend taking this class.
The professors responses to these ratings should be a tell-tale sign of the quality of this guy. Don't know a single person with a positive experience in this class. Know plenty of law students who say this class is harder than their law classes. Add a new professor for this class or something. Content is easy, professor makes it extremely hard.
I'm not sure why students think this class is so hard, or what their problem is with the professor. He's a really nice guy who clearly cares about his students and the subject. READ the textbook and PAY ATTENTION to the lectures and you'll be fine. I've learned a lot from his class, and hope to take more with him!
While MIE 305 is one of the hardest classes I've taken at NC State, it has also been one of my most beneficial classes. Professor Kuzenski truly helps you learn the material and is very communicative and responsive to students.
I think the fact that this dude actually responds to student's post on rate my professor perfectly encapsulates the type of professor Dr. K is. If you weren't able to take this class during covid with S/U, rip to your GPA.
Most of the bad reviews here are probably from people who struggled due to a lack of effort. Yes this class is probably the hardest course I have taken at NCSU, but it is not unbearable at all. Professor Kuzenski is very knowledgeable and clearly cares about his students. Read the book and pay attention in lectures and you will have no problem.
The class was very hard due to the amount of information you have to process. I do wish he would've allowed us to take one page of notes, at the least. He also makes things harder for us by not letting us review anything without an appointment. He must have been an overachiever when he was in college because this was the hardest 300 level course.
Hardest class I took at NCSU. He's very knowledgeable and answers questions quickly, but be prepared to read the textbook word for word or you'll struggle. Also make sure you get everything you need from the lectures before 10PM the night before exams because he takes them down.
I got a C+, which I was happy about because I failed the 1st exam and freaked out thinking I wouldnt pass. However, once I changed up my studying and focused better during lessons I had a 30 point improvement on my 2nd test. So, if you commit it works. Super hard/long tests tho! Hes very responsive in his Q&As and forums and always helped me.
Reading his reviews, he clearly knows students are having a hard time with covid. And yet he decides to impose 22 pages of syllabus/course policies and try to shaft u in any way possible. And tells the students that its their fault for not keeping up with deadlines despite a pandemic going on. He doesn't know that the hardships we face are from him
This class gets a bad rap from people who don't try very hard in it, I think. I'm not a brain trust, but still got a lot out of it spring 2020 and find myself interested in lots of new issues. Professor Kuzenski is a helpful teacher (some funny lecture moments too) that always seemed upbeat about responding to my questions too. He knows his stuff.
Good: He is a pretty solid and engaging lecturer. Bad: The man seemingly has no idea how to write anything concisely. I could easily compress 90% of his emails into maybe 3 sentences, but he manages to stretch them out to like 8 paragraphs. The syllabus is also literally 22 pages long and you must read it carefully because he's a very harsh grader
Took MIE 305 over the summer, really no complaints other than the small window that was given to take tests. Had to take unnecessary time away from work to complete tests, don't understand why they couldn't be open over a 12-hour window.
Nice and willing to help. However, his class structure inhibits progress for those that are taking DE courses for a reason. The timed lectures are annoying and if you work during the week, you will not perform well. You can't see which questions you get wrong during the lectures while you're learning. Please reconsider the lecture structure, Dr. K.
To be completely honest, it is not an easy class, but it is not meant to be. You learn a lot in the class. You absolutely have to work to get a good grade, you cant coast through the class. The questions asked are tricky in their wording, but the answer is right there and obvious once you figure it out. You ABSOLUTELY need the book. Hard but fair.
Love Dr. K's class. Nice guy, lots of info. Read textbook 100%, it helps. The one thing I wish he would change (I have to agree with below poster) is lecture organization. You have 3 days to watch 2-4 lectures, can't rewatch them. Can't watch them on the weekends. If you work it's inflexible and will miss lecture points.
Great professor, you can tell he really cares about his students and his job. MIE305 is a really tough course, but if you read the textbook and learn the best way to study the material you'll be fine. 4 lectures a week with lots of study opportunities.
Ridiculous class structure for a DE class. Never have I taken an online class and not been able to go back and rewatch lectures for review. Doesn't matter if you're performing well on every other assignment and reading the book (80s+), if you miss the time margin for those lectures you fail the class.
This an ok class but these responses thumbs down. Several people here with same issue and rather than see why people saying they have difficulty with the class it's deflecting. I agree lectures made it more difficult than it needed to be. They should be all week and exam windows should be longer. I feel the underprivileged. ALSO READ YA BOOK SIS.
I will be retaking the class again but I don't think these reviews reflect Dr. K. He sets the expectations in the beginning, it's your job to work with them if you want to continue with the class. Need the book. I bought the wrong one and it messed me up in the beginning. Useful class and lots of info you need to know in business.
Great lecturer. Has a way of explaining things that just makes sense. Learned a lot from him. There is lots of information in this class so you have to be on top of it or else you will do poorly. I wish the lectures were all due at the end of each week rather than throughout. Also, why create an assignment so that it can only be done on a Sunday?
This class is just an absolute brain dump. It is absolutely beyond me why there is no drinking of water or scratch paper allowed on the exam. "Simulate an in class environment" will be in all his emails, but I could not tell you one class in four years where this has been subject to penalty. Mind dump on the exams and you'll be fine.
WOOT. Final grades out and Dr. K was downright generous. A friend said you can get through this class OK if you try, do the assignments, meet deadlines, don't cop an attitude, show a little interest. That's right on target and he's a nice/funny guy in email & zoom. Came out of the class with more learned n remembered than in most as well. thanks.
How would a reasonably prudent person feel about this class? Well this class requires a decent amount of preparation and going through the study guide before each test (if offered in other semesters) is absolutely necessary. Approach this class with caution and give it a sensible amount of attention and you'll be alright.
If you are reading the reviews before taking this class, dont let the bad reviews guide your performance in the class. Do what you got to do and judge by your own experience. This professor is amazing, the lectures are heavy yes, but I can tell you that after this class Im ready to represent your business in court (hahaha, no yet).
He is a sophist. If you read some of his responses regarding the lectures, please know that this was not the case during the pandemic when I took this class. He made it very clear that the lectures were timed and to take bathroom breaks prior to starting them so you didn't run of out time.
I loved Dr. Kuzenski! His class does take a lot of work and effort, but you can tell that he genuinely cares about teaching and are super helpful outside of the classroom too! Even though I feel like I could've done better, but I think I learned a lot in this class so it's worth it for me!
Imagine you walk into a class where the professor expects you to know the textbook like its your left butt cheek. This is that class. My man wrote the book on MIE 305, (literally) and expects his students to put aside their careers, jobs, and child support to be successful in this class. If you're reading this, its already too late. RIP
Professor K is by far the worst professor I've ever had. I took the class online and he made it so difficult to do well in this class. He locks his lectures and study guides maybe two days after they come out. It's like he wants you to fail by locking you out after completion. His tests might be the most bs thing ever too. 10/10 hate his guts
Is this class hard? Absolutely. Be prepared to pay close attention to lectures, take good nates, and read the textbook. Exams are tough, but material tested is fair. I am taking online and actually like the way he does them. Keeps me engaged with the pace of in-person classes. Don't be scared, but be prepared to be challenged.
The course is hard. It just is and he knows that. But he is a great lecturer, very helpful in class, and tries his best to prepare students. I went into it terrified and heard the horror stories but if you read the book (really read it), listen to the lectures, and set aside a lot of time to study in the week leading up to the test, it is doable.
I honestly do not understand the negative reviews. The class is somewhat difficult, yes (it's a business law class, I feel like that comes with the territory). If you pay attention and take notes in class and just skim the textbook for every chapter, you will do well. He is an amazing professor, don't let the negative reviews mislead you.
I'm graduating this semester, and just stopping by here to remind everyone that this was the worst course by the worst instructor that I ever experienced. He's extremely rude and strict. NCSU needs to find different instructors for this class.
I'm a graduating senior and dropped in here to remind people that business law with this professor was the best course where I learned the most in the last 4 years. Professor is supportive and enthusiastic. The material is harder than most but he helps with good examples in lectures. Pay attention, follow simple rules & deadlines, you'll be fine.
I don't understand all the hate toward this professor. Yes, it is a very hard class. However, all the resources are there for you to succeed. Kuzenski is passionate about the topic and eager to share. As long as you ask for help, he will do his best to assist you. Pay attention in lectures, participate and take notes, and you will do fine.
By far the most engaging and applicable course I've taken. Sure, this course will be tougher than all the introductory courses in poole, but it is by no means a course that should be feared. Dr. K's top priority is that his students understand the material. He responds lightning quick to emails and will always do what he can to help you.
I let this guy know that I was dealing with personal issues in my life, COVID illness, being bedridden, and more, and he STILL didn't allow any slack in this class. Didn't extend ANY of my deadlines, didn't offer any assistance, just an "OK, keep pushing". This left such a sour taste in my mouth, coupled with the fact that this class is awful.
A class that gives students too much grief with a professor that feels like everyone has the same brain as him. His textbook is literally what you would get if you took a transcript of his lectures, and then put it into a book. It's hard to read and understand. Even taking notes and ample study time, I know students that failed/are failing. 0/10
I know people are going to hate to hate, but honestly this is not a bad class and he is not a bad professor. People just get mad that this class is a bit more difficult and requires more effort. If you write down what he says in class and read the textbook, you will do just fine, you just have to put in the work. Prof K is a good prof and he helps.
Everyone is so dramatic about Professor K. Yes, it is a tough class, but that is what college is. If you put in the work, write down everything he says in class, fill out the study guides with ample time, and pay attention in class, you should easily make a B. My biggest thing that helped me succeed was taking very thorough notes in lectures.
My true Intro to College course. Difficulty-wise, at times I was in disbelief. It involved lots of studying and doing personal research, going for office hours, and the sorts. Knowing definitions won't help, his questions are application-based mostly. He is an outstanding professor. Helpful, just seek help. Learned so much, for which I'm grateful.
You could read the other doom and gloom reviews and be hesitant about taking this class. Are you eager to learn about business? Do you want to have a valuable impact on the world? If you answer "yes" to either, you need this class. It isn't the stereotypical easy business class. You will have to work, but it is one of the most valuable classes.
This was my favorite class at NCSU. Genuinely interesting. Top-tier teaching. That being said, don't get COVID bc even if you send positive documentation and test through the school you will be expected to get an absence verification officer involved or your days will not be excused. Quite obviously tries to make the class as hard as possible.
My favorite class, and that is after I came in concerned about hearing how hard it was. It is harder than most BUS classes mainly because the concepts are new and you have to pay attention. But what I started realizing I was actually learning by the 2nd exam instead of just busy work was worth it. Read, follow rules, ask questions. Prof. is great
After reading lots of laughable reviews from students trying their hardest to insult another human person, I couldn't help but make my own review... Dr.K's class is fine as long as you posses some some self control and spend more time studying than you do thinking about teachers you don't like.
Hardest class I have ever taken in my life. That being said, it's the most interesting class I've ever taken. The reason it's so hard is that studying law is a foreign subject. So yeah, you need to study HARD. For the people complaining about study guides and power points getting taken down, ever heard of a flash drive? How about recent downloads?
I understand when professors lecture harder material given the course difficulty. However, this professor makes it impossible to feel that he wants you to succeed. He genuinely does not care if you pass or not and makes it more difficult by being the only professor for this mandatory course and denying the ability to take this course elsewhere.
If I had to choose between taking this class again and losing my right leg, I would be hopping around on one foot for the rest of my life!
Doom and Gloom reviews are hysterical. I am graduating and this class isn't even in the top 5 hardest classes I have taken at here. The online class is the best online experience I have ever had, doom reviews come because of this - Didn't read the book + Didn't pay attention in class = Did not Pass Only "con" is he loves writing so be ready to read
Graduating senior report. MIE305 was my favorite of all in BUS. It requires extra work, and reading. Most of all it requires self-discipline which is where I think poor performing students get into trouble and then snipe. If you read syllabus, directions, ask questions, the professor is helpful and pretty easy going. I learned a lot in here.
This is not a C wall class so try your best as this may be the hardest class I have taken at Poole. Attend class and take notes during lecture, especially examples/scenarios and cases. Dr. K justifies the difficulty based on the course level. Most, if not all, 300 level courses are a follow up on what you learned from 200 level courses, just saying
All quizzes, assignments, and tests are locked after completion "You are welcomed to come during office hours", just make sure to adjust your busy schedule. If you deal with insomnia his lecture videos are a perfect tool to get some great sleep. In the words of Liam Neeson "Good Luck!". Dr. Kuzenski is typing.....
Dr. K was a great professor. It's not an easy class by any means but it's the only class I have taken that even though I'm not doing well in the class I know so much about law, more than I did before. Not everything needs to be an easy A, everyone complaining because they don't want to work towards their degree. Just find an appreciation for genius
One of the most time consuming, toughest classes I've taken at State. There's a ton of material and you MUST do the lectures within a very narrow window of time or they knock your grade. That being said, I truly did enjoy this class because it's applicable to the real world. -1 because he put the final exam three days after our last lecture.
Very passionate professor with a good sense of humour. However, my only tip for those trying to succeed is to stop playing the victim. College professors will not be there to guide for the rest of your lives. However, his test questions are kind of flawed, and sometimes its either too wordy, or you have to remember specific details in class.
Also, make sure to read the power points as well as the textbook. Even his ppts contain small details that can seem trivial, but will be questioned on the test.
100% my favorite business class I have taken. People who say this class is impossible, are just lazy. Dr. K. is such a nice guy and a great lecturer. If you want to do well, attend class and actually pay attention. Do the 8 homework assignments. And the week before an exam, review the study guide and your notes. You'll be fine if you just study!!
I didn't take the warnings seriously and bombed the first test. Read every letter of that text book, review all the cases needed before the test, and pay attention in class and you'll do fine. The text book is the longest I've ever had to read, but at least the subject matter is interesting. Great professor, great class, good luck.
The best professor that I have had at NC State. The #1 thing I would say to succeed in this course is time management. Be able to pace yourself watching the lectures, studying and competing the short assignments. He gives great information and the textbook allows you to expand upon what was covered in class. Must be willing to put in the work!
He is good at teaching itself but his excessive copyright and honor code protection is the reason this class is extremely difficult. He makes it so inconvenient to practice and learn material that I struggled to commit time when I had other classes. Cant copy any questions and must meet with a TA for any answers to assignments and no late work.
Like all business majors talking to their friends about classes, I was warned about the horror of MIE 305. With this in mind, I worked hard and read the textbook, which Kuzenski wrote, and took his lectures very seriously with note taking. If you just dedicate time to this class, you can easily pass and even get a good grade. Just don't slack off!
I've taken two classes with the professor during my time at NCSU. During each class, I felt as though Kuzenski made time to meet with me before, after, or outside of class. The class is harder and there are two exams, but the majority of the grading comes from the research papers and projects; both have plenty of time.
I was afraid to take this course as a freshman because of all the stuff I read about Dr. K on here. The course is not as bad as you think it is guys, however, it is very time-consuming and it takes a lot of time to read the text, study, and due to the assignments. If you're taking DE, make sure to watch the videos ASAP to get a head start.
Imma be honest all I did was take really good notes on the lectures didn't even read the textbook and I managed to get a B+. Kinda confused why everyone else in my major that came before me thought this was a difficult class.
Summer version of the class is intense, short semester. Prof Kuzenski was good, nice, funny about replying and help when I asked. He cared about my figuring it out, even followed up a few times. I learned a lot, lectures are interesting with examples, he gives some free miss points back on exams. Still have to pay attention & work in here tho.
I am a week into class, so take this feedback "with a grain of salt". I do not know how I will do here, but if I don't do well, it won't be because of this instructor. It will all be on me. From what I have seen so far, this guy is extremely thorough with his communications and expectations. I am dumbfounded by the negative feedback that he gets.
Professor Kuzenski is a challenging professor with the longest syllabus I've ever seen; however, if you follow it, learn it, respect it, and most importantly respect him, he will help you. Put in effort and realize that although he is difficult, he has inherent respect for his students and will do what he can to see you learn.
I failed the first exam and have a C now. Blame it on my poor test taking skills, and not on Dr. K's teaching. I enjoy his lectures and find the material very interesting. He is very detailed and does his best to explain the material. He is also very helpful and is quick to respond to questions. I rate him as one of the best teachers at State.
He is so funny during the lectures that I burst out laughing most days. He is a charming individual and I get lost in his dreamy eyes and can't help but lose focus. I sit front row every day and I find myself very tempted to dive right over the podium and ... while he is trying to present but I maintain self control. I wish he would notice me.
This class is hard dont get me wrong, but students really are given every chance to succeed. I am finishing with a D so I am a bad example but he has a ton of resources to review material and do well in the class, if you put in the time. My only complaint is there is no assignments in the class other than exams and TopHat so you have to be careful.
I just want yall to know i have recently discovered this man makes music... look him up on youtube
John Kuzenski is a fantastic professor and is very passionate about his students and Law. He has worked in law for a very long time and uses his experience to give great examples and context to his students. It is very lecture and textbook-heavy, so if you put in the work, you will get the grade. One of my favorite classes in all of Management.
I don't have access to the study guide and recorded lectures to review the day before the exam. He closes off access to both before the 3-day exam window opens, rather than after all exams have been taken. Lack of participation is heavily penalized; if you miss 9 attendances you get a 0 even though you might have attended like 80% of the classes.
Only professor I've ever had that straight up gatekeeps study material. Literally no reason I can see to take exam review material OFF of moodle right before an exam from an educational standpoint. It seems like a lot of the things he does is just out of spite for students for no real reason.
I attended every class (except 1). But I didnt know we had to do both attendance checks. TopHat says "ATTENDANCE COMPLETE" when you do the first one. So I never completed the second one. I lost 5% of my grade because of that. he said he would add it back but never did. I would've gotten a B+ if it was for that. He's a _______.
Read the syllabus. Attend every lecture. Pay attention and do well on participation. Ask questions if you are stuck. Take notes: RELIGOUSLY! He gives you every opportunity under the Carolina Blue Sky to pass. If you don't pass - It's your fault. My worst grade was in this class. But I learned a lot more here than I did in any other course at Poole.
I recommend rewatching the lectures on your own free time. Read the textbook chapters multiple times (3 times preferably). Overall, this isn't a difficult class and the workload is fairly manageable. The professor is responsive to his students and seems to respect them.
I'm not going to sugar coat it, this class is very hard. Kuzenski deep down really cares about what he's teaching and is usually willing to help you. Even for someone going into law his exams are a bit ridiculous. Its almost like he purposefully tries to make you fail his exams they're just hard. Read Read Read and you'll probably pass. only exams
I graduated on Sat. The student speaker started off by thanking the Lord for helping him pass MIE 305. I could not help but laugh. Respect Dr. K and his teaching, and he will do the same to you and help you. He has a PhD in seeing student's BS excuses. Take advantage of him and you will pay a price because this class is no joke.
This class isn't as bad as people make you think. Go to class, take good notes, read, watch the videos given, and fill out the study guides given and you will have no problem. I made 90+ on the tests with active studying of the material all semester don't expect to cram the night before and pass. Make the effort to learn and you will have no issue.
Law isn't as bad as people say if you read the textbook, take good notes, and show up to class and pay attention. It's a hard subject so you can't blame Kuzenski entirely for the class' difficulty. Class is only graded on attendance, TopHat, and 3 tests.
I wish other PCOM faculty were as challenging as Dr. K is. I wish others would hold us accountable and make us more disciplined. Students are spoilt by the lax expectations and stupidly easy exams in other courses. Dr. K is the only one in PCOM who actually taught and who showed passion for the subject. I struggled, but learned a ton.
Really disliked this professor - made the class unbearable and ruined my learning experience because of how tough and unforgiving he is
Dr K is a great engaged professor who brings real passion to teaching, always helpful if you need/ask for it. I Coda-ed into Poole last year and this is what most of the rest of NC State is like outside Nelson Hall. Followed directions, rules, read K's help guides and announcements, asked for help when I needed it, no problems all term so far.
10/10 difficulty. Be prepared to read and devote a large chunk of time for MIE 305. The class is difficult, probably the most difficult in Poole, but if you read ahead of time and stay on top of lecture material, you should be ok.
Wouldn't let me take S/U because it violated the imaginary policies in his head. Had to take it to the dean to be able to take the class for S/U. If you know what's good for you just take an easier business minor elective.
Kind of weird but I'm sitting here in the middle of spring break thinking about torts and getting back on Monday to hear "the rest of the story" in this class. Not the easiest class in Poole to be sure, but it's been the most educational and engaging I've taken to be sure. Kuz sets a high bar but has helped me meet it multiple times this spring.
You MUST attend class no exceptions ... doesn't matter if you have valid reasons such as being sick, having job interviews or work obligations. If you are a busy person find an alternative to this class because he doesn't make exceptions and takes 10 points off a class after the allotted amount of classes and it will ruin your grade.
I wouldn't worry about the overly negative reviews on Kuzenski. Sit front row, pay attention to the lectures, and dedicate adequate time outside of class to studying and you will do fine. I paid attention in class and finished with an A without reading the textbook. It is not as hard as students make it out to be so long as you try. Plus he's funny
I had a lot of friends warn me about this class, but honestly, Professor K is a super nice guy, does a great job of answering and making people feel valid for questions they have in class, and posts some really useful videos in the lecture library. Yeah, the tests are tough, but life is tough. Let's stop the hate, Professor K is the man
Kuzenski is a GREAT professor when it comes to lecturing, being accessible outside of class, and making sure students understand the material if they want to. He is just extremely uptight and NOT flexible at all so get all your ducks in a row when you start his class and keep them there. Don't cheat or he would literally probably take you to court.
I expected worse since I saw all of the negative comments and his clap-back replies, but surprisingly I enjoyed this class. I did not expect this professor to be as jovial as he was, and he was very passionate about the material and gave a lot of examples in class. I never read the textbook, just paid attention to the lectures and passed.
Do not be intimidated by the negative reviews. Kuzenski was truly a great professor. Lectures are incredibly interesting and the material is so dense, but so rewarding to understand. I have learned the most out of this class by a longshot then other PCOM classes. The class is hard, but put in the effort outside of class and you will be rewarded
A lot of the info covered is irrelevant to what many students will experience in their professional careers. As someone who has worked for many years at a top financial institution, relevant legal topics and regulations are introduced & maintained by annual testing. I recommend for Dr.K to re-eval & adj the class to be more accurate for bus. majors
This is a very hard class that you have to take time to study for. Dr Kuzenski does do things that feel unnecessary like having no paper on the exams at Delta. However, he does give good examples for us to understand the material and videos. Pay attention, asks questions, and go to office hours. Take this course along with your easiest classes.
You get out of this class what you put into it, and you have to read. I did and got good grades all semester, the professor was both funny and helpful every time I needed help. 2 guys sitting next to me bragged about not reading, got easy class questions wrong by messing with their phones all class, etc. & complained about grades. Go figure.
Get ready for one of the hardest business classes, 3 tests each worth 21% of final grade and they are in delta with no notes. lots of information to know and textbook is massive and extremely information dense, luckily though its via bookshelf so you can copy into notes. For test1 had 125 pages in textbook I copied/pasted almost 100 pages of notes
I was very nervous about this course due to the commentary on Reddit and in some of the reviews for the course. This is a very manageable class. The lectures and PowerPoints are critical tools! Anything I needed further clarification on I read in the book. It does not require a ridiculous amount of reading as some say. Highly recommend the class.
MIE 305 is by no means an easy class. My best advice would be to make sure you watch the lecture library videos, attend the lectures and at least skim the textbook for each exam. I can honestly say for each test I studied a minimum of three days for as much as I possibly could. Kuzenski was a good professor who really does want you to succeed.
I came in scared because of inaccurate rumors I had heard but that changed quickly and the course became one of my favorites. Professor Kuzenski goes above and beyond and it helps. Keys to success are read, pay attention, save your excuses for why something didn't get done on time. Generous with grade boosts at the end if you perform and engage.
Highly recommend taking Professor K's Legal and Regulatory Environment of Business class if you are planning on going to law school. He does a great job explaining the topics and the class questions really helped me retain material in the long run. Many of the topics we discussed stuck with me and have given me an advantage in law school.
the amount of info you have to know for the exams is laughable
Tophat questions in class are graded for accuracy, he counts down from 5 once half the full 300-person lecture answers. No homework, but there is a lot of detailed content; be ready put to be aside your other classes if you haven't heavily prepared before the week of the test. Wouldn't say it's hard to pass(if you're willing to put the work in).
Dr. Kuzenski is a good lecturer, but you better pay attention if you wanna do well, especially if it's not on his powerpoints. Tests are about 2/3 of your grade. Almost no homework, but you better pace yourself with studying. Has a decent amount (not a ton) of stuff that he wants you to look at outside of the lectures that he'll test on too.
I worked hard in this class & am disappointed is in his lack of compassion for his students. Not one ounce of care other than "doing his job". His jokes & examples are weird. When you are working w/ students you should know MIE 305 is not top priority, I feel like there should be some leeway, room for discussion, and again just overall compassion.
I took this course a year ago and graduated in December. Looking back, it was my favorite class and I learned the most useful things from it of all. The professor's explanations and examples are great. Paying attention in class and using available help provided is crucial to success. He is helpful and friendly if you have a good attitude and ask.
This class is super hard and his voice is so annoying to listen to during his lectures
absolutely terrible experience
I have had this professor for both MIE 305 and MIE 416. Terrible would be an understatement. If you can transfer to a different school over the summer to take a course and avoid him, I'd 100% take the opportunity. Not to mention, an advisor from NC State suggested I do this for MIE 305. I hope this says enough.
WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. HE NEVER UPDATED HIS GRADES AND TOLD ME TO DROP/WITHDRAW EVEN THOUGH I WOULD OF PASSED. HE OBVIOUSLY HAS CONNECTIONS AND IS WHY HE IS STILL HERE, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS, TAKE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE LIKE 90 PERCENT OF STUDENTS HAVE TO DO. MOST STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE SO DONT EVEN TRY. I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE.
As a senior, I can confidently say Kuzenski is the weakness of PCOM. I don't have a bad grade in this class, I'm not writing out of spite. The material is really interesting and his lectures aren't bad. Its just his lack of understanding and compassion, truly makes you despise the subject. He'll never go out of his way to accomodate/help a student.
Seems like a nice guy but structures his class in a way that makes it most difficult for the students. Your grade is made up of three exams and Tophat questions graded for accuracy in class. The exams are full of purposefully confusing questions. If you have to take an exam on a bad week, it is impossible to get your grade back up.
Kuzenski is clearly passionate about law and his lectures can be interesting at times, however, the way he structures his class makes it extremely difficult. No homework, your grade is based on Tophats and Exams that have plenty of questions designed to trick you.
This class is blown out of proportions IMO. Prof K. is very knowledgeable and passionate about law. I think he makes the class pretty fair. Just show up to class and review the material for a few hours the night before the exams and you'll do fine.
Professor Kuzenski has high expectations for his students, but once you work on your study habits and get used to his teaching style, MIE 305 lectures are extremely fun and informative! He is also very generous with extra credits if you pay attention and express a willingness to learn and improve. Highly recommended!
80% of grade was tests. Exams were very hard, even after excessive preparation and studying. Participation and attendance was the only other factors going into your grade.
Avoid at all costs. Does not care for students whatsoever
Kuzenski's class is tough, but putting in the work pays off. His lectures can be engaging, and using tools like Unstuck ai for practice problems really helped me grasp the material. Not the easiest A, but doable with dedication.
People like him just should not be teachers, period. The lack of care for students actually learning is the worst thing I've gone through so far in my college experience. He doesn't care about his students actually learning he almost tries to hide the lectures for his online course students. AVOID AT ALL COSTS for you and your mental health.
I think his class is blown out of proportion. As long as you are putting in the time, you can definitely get a good grade. I didn't even read the textbook and still did well. Just make sure you are taking good notes during his lecture.
Way more difficult and stressful than it needed to be. The material is interesting, and this could be a fun class, which is why it is so sad that NCSU has a heartless dictator teaching it. The timed in-class questions were a nightmare. I've never had a professor that I was more convinced felt joy from watching students fail.
I do see some truth in people on here saying that the class's reputation is blown out of proportion. If you read the whole textbook and take good notes in class you won't fail. However, the in class top hats are insane and the tests are very knit picky. Prof is very knowledgeable in the subject but he has no problem tanking your GPA.
I found this class interesting but this class was so heavy compared to other 300 or 400 level that I have taken. It is just a lot of work and a lot of the TopHat and exam questions are there to try and trick you, which unfortunately works. I just struggled to find a lot of time to put to this course. Definitely start studying weeks in advance.
I didn't think the class was that bad. It is dense, but he is a great lecturer. I took it online(would recommend) and just took good notes for each lecture and never needed the text book at all. Pay attention to the case review videos when studying! Attendance/viewing the lectures is required.
He is fair but the material is not easy. Pay attention and take notes in class or rewatch the lecture recordings. First test is pretty easy if you have civics knowledge, don't let it trick you. The second one is harder. Rounded me from 78.63 to a B minus without me having to ask. Pretty chill guy.
Dr. Kuzenski is a great lecturer who thoroughly knows the material (he wrote the textbook you have to buy). Humorous and provides real-world examples of the topics covered. Only practice for exams are Top Hat questions that you don't access to after class. Be ready to study a lot for his exams because they are like trivia from the textbook.
I was super nervous going into this class, but I realized you just have to put in the work. Copy down everything he says in the lectures. I took it online because he talks so fast so I found it easy to rewind things he says. The exams are hard, but if you take this time to review your notes from his lectures and videos you will do good.
If you show up and read the textbook you will be fine, this class is not that brain bending. The tests require a solid few hours to study for but are not too difficult
I was super nervous going into this class because of all of the negative things I heard but I honestly think people give up before they even get into the class. Go to class, take good notes, write down everything he says and you will be fine. I never even opened the textbook...
This class is gonna be difficult, but the rules set in place by professor Kuzenski will help you in the course. He may come off as a tough professor but one that I can respect. Make sure to attend class, pay attention, take a lot of notes, and read the case studies and you should be fine. Be ready for pop quizzes and trick questions.
John isn't a bad professor, however, I strongly believe he overcomplicates simple topics. I also found that he rambled a lot and made exams unnecessarily complicated and confusing for no reason. I also never read the textbook, crammed every exam, and took notes for other classes during lecture. Only take notes from the lecture and go to class.
This is a hard class but that's because of the content, not the professor. Only complaint is it felt like there were trick questions on exams & tophats. Other than that, he's super organized, tells you exactly what you need to be doing, moodle page is organized/clear, lectures are very helpful just pay attention & take notes. Rewatch them for exams
He is one with the course - engaging lecturer and very knowledgeable. You get 'quibble points' back on tests and can make up for missed lecture points with class participation. The only parts of the text covered in tests are those specified in the slides. It's a well balanced, transparent, and informative introductory course! You reap what you sow.
The online experience is thorough. You go along with and watch the recorded lectures of that semester's in-person section. If it's uploaded on Monday, you can watch it until Wednesday night for credit. The professor is involved, available, and he doesn't just do the "upload videos, check emails once in a while" routine.
This is a challenging class, no matter what, and he is quite good at explaining complex content. He is definitely a rambler. He is very strict about completing Panapto lectures on time (no extensions for anything) so if you can't be punctual with his lecture schedule then don't take it online.
I found this course extremely difficult to keep up with. It is not beginner-friendly and seems designed more for memorization. The exams are particularly challenging, with no cheat sheets allowed and a heavy emphasis on memorizing case names, dates, and legal terminology—most of which feels disconnected from real-world application.
Extremely hard class, made the class hard on purpose, the class got changed from a C wall to a D wall because so many people failed
The tests were based on a huge amount of information that required memorization, with no cheat sheet allowed, even for the 20 cases we were assigned to remember. In-class participation was graded as well. We would spend only five minutes discussing a topic before being quizzed on it, as if we were expected to become experts in just that brief time.
This guy is just rude and not caring. However, he is an excellent teacher. I could just listen in class while doing other work and learn all of the concepts. 10/10 for teaching, 3/10 for character. He also makes you buy his book. Don't do it, it's a scam. Helps with like 4 questions on the exams but not worth the time or money.
Difficult to retain the information that the class receives only by Kuzenski saying it. Tests are very detailed and he wrote the textbook, that still doesn't have all the material we are tested on. Very enthusiastic about the subject, expects us to be on his knowledge level instantly.
He is knowledgeable about the subject. But he is extremely hard to learn from, his lectures go really fast, he pops tophat questions throughout class right after teaching the topic, and his tests are extremely difficult with no cheat sheet and barely a curve. There are not many assignments outside of the tests, so the tests are 60% of your grade
Prof K seems like a nice guy, i think some of his reviews are kinda harsh he just teaches a dense class. The exams are moderately hard theyre fair. He does curve them a little. Hes fine just need to study through his slides, don't really need to read the textbook but it doesn't hurt. pay attention and youll be fine
Definitely a difficult and dense class. My only real gripe is the tophat questions were unnecessarily difficult at times. I definitely learned a lot and his insights were great. Probably the class I've taken most seriously and learned the most from. Pay attention during lectures and take great notes and you'll do fine.
Difficult class, excellent professor. The lectures were interesting and easy to follow, but be prepared to have to memorize a lot of information If you consistently show up, pay attention, and take good notes, you should be fine. If you don't, you'll likely fail. Textbook is helpful for cases, but most test content is in lectures Read the syllabus
He is a great lecturer don't get me wrong but his notes aren't the best. Doesn't curve his exams or gives any sort of aid like a cheat sheet. His exams have answer options that are designed to trick you. His lecturing is great with examples but the flow isn't really there, imagine you listening to him explain an entire slide for 46 minutes straight
Threatened me with academic integrity violation because I wanted to take the class for S/U.
Dr. K is a great professor who teaches a class with difficult material. His exams are hard, but not made to trick you. If you study correctly and thoroughly, you will survive. Don't expect to thrive in this class without a textbook, and yes, you have to actually read it. Go to class and pay attention, TopHat questions are graded for accuracy.
How are you going to make Top-Hat graded. You give very little time to topics we are just learning.
Tests are too hard.
Bad teacher. Never take.
This has genuinely been one of the most frustrating classes I've taken at NC State, largely due to how the professor structures the grading and assignments. In other courses exams make up a big portion of grade & smaller grade components like attendance, homework, TopHat are more manageable but in this course both components are hard.
I've always seen TopHat graded in a way where correct ones earn full credit & wrong ones receive partial credit. For example if its ten TopHat questions and you answer 2 right, you end up with 6/10 bc. But in this MIE 305 it's simply 2/10, no partial credit. You walk away with a failing percentage for something as simple of participation grade.
The video quizzes are also stressful bc many questions are tricky, and unlike other professors who give multiple attempts or at least show which questions you got wrong after attempt, this professor offers none. Even exams end up being filled with tricky wording or concepts, making them much harder than expected.
Grade distributions over last 5 sems show most students get Cs, Ds, or worse, and only a small percentage earn As. This trend has continued from Spring2023 - Spring2025 without any meaningful changes. It's frustrating bc simple changes like partial credit TopHat or multiple attempts on quizzes could help students succeed. Overall worst professor.
Alumni and 4 other friends years after graduation still strongly believe he makes this class way too hard and there isn't another professor for this class Can ruin your academic career
Dude brags about how hard his class is. I was planning to go to law school and I understood the commitment of it, but this guy's condescending attitude makes me second guess my plans after graduation. I love politics and law, but I hate whenever I'm around this guy
Very bad teacher.
This is a core class that shouldn't be hard & give us a good run down on civics and constitutional laws & how they are applied in business, but feels like he tries to weed out Poole students when he should be doing that to law school students. He will asks crazy questions on the tests like “what was George Washington doing on the toilet in 1786?”
I took him last year and failed, I took this class again this semester online at a community college and currently have a 99% in the class. The content isn't that hard, he just makes it way harder than its supposed to be. The guy is just insane and an amateur
No good, take it at Wake Tech for transfer credit and save yourself a headache.
While the professor is knowledgable in the subject, there should be no reason why this class should be as difficult as it is.
Two words: Run.
WHY HAS THIS GUY NOT BEEN FIRED?
The course subject is difficult but he has been one of the best lecturers I've ever taken. It is not an easy class but if you apply yourself and study the lectures in depth and go over the textbook pages he tells you, the tests are very straightforward and not meant to trick anyone. People don't give him enough credit for how good his lectures are.
Honestly, I was really scared to take this class when I read the reviews on him but this is such a straight-forward class. As long as you take good notes on his lectures and skim the textbook a little you'll do fine. His graded tophats do kind of suck but if you miss a few questions every now and then you'll be okay. I found ACC 210 to be harder...
Very bad. He is sadly the only option for Business Law. Good luck, Spring Class 2025. - P SMITTTTYYY
There is no reason for the material to be this difficult. Essentially sets students up for failure from the get-go.
Most knowledgeable and straightforward class at NC State. Many struggle because they expect an easy, no-attendance class. Here, you're expected to learn and engage. He's a good lecturer who uses clear examples to make the material more understandable. He gives points back at the end of the semester for missed TopHats if you go to TA visits.
Unrealistic expectations of students, his tests are incredibly dense and are the hardest exams I've taken yet through education even after studying and taking notes. If possible just take the class at Wake Tech.
Dude was built in a lab to be a lawyer but he's not a good teacher. If you work hard and study a ton you won't fail but it takes a lot of commitment, his tests are brutal. if you have to take it at state it's doable but it should be your hardest class of the semester, I would've done it at wake tech or something instead
I came into this class terrified but ended up loving it. Will never understand the hate Dr. K gets. He is extremely knowledgeable and unlike most professors actually made the lectures engaging. If you're a good student who can just lock in, pay attention in the lectures, and study hard for the exams it'll be a breeze. Good luck and lock in!
Genuinely not as bad as everyone makes him seem. Go to class and pay attention. Top Hat questions are hard and graded for accuracy. I ended with a 90 and he rounded my grade up to an A. To study for the exams, just rewatch all the lectures and take good notes on them. I never read the textbook and was fine. The material is hard but he is fair.
John is the type of guy who wants you and the class to fail. I do not understand why he is a teacher when a clearly wants to be a lawyer still. His expectations for this course are way too high for a general business law class. I hope he reconsiders his life. At least I completed it.
I wish every class I took at State was this engaging. His lectures are lectures. If you think this class is insanely hard, you either lack the will to be in or shouldn't be in college.
This class is difficult and you will need to allot extra study time for this class to be successful. You have to go to class, pay attention, read the textbook and take notes. When studying for the exams, watch every video in the lecture library as there will be exam questions from content only in the videos. Take advantage of the TA's office hours.
There's not much work outside of class at all. What makes the class challenging is that tests require you to remember specific information from lecture, and you must be very good at reasoning your way through case examples. Law is inherently tough, and I learned more in this class than from any of my other business classes.
I went in terrified, but genuinely this class was not that bad. It was complex, and detail oriented. It requires you to be focused in class in every lecture. Take note of everything he says. TopHat and attendance are graded, but I found the questions helpful. He rounded my grade, and was quick to answer emails. Just pay attention and you'll be ok.
Take somewhere else if you can.
