This professor is a bottom line genius
No Comments
He climbed Mount Everest and is fluent in 100 languages. He is an amazing professor and is fun to talk to outside of class. I have learned so much from him. There is no reading for the class outside or your research paper, you just show up and learn. Definitely take one of his classes!
He participated ten years in a row in the iron man triathalon. Excellent professor, very smart and sexy too ;) you will get an A if you take good notes and study...
He does Iron man triathalon. He knows everything about Islam and the Arab world and he is not even Arab which is really cool. He wears the same shoes every day. Overall, good teacher who seems to enjoy teaching Islam.
Cool teacher this semester he did not use any books but made us do a 25 page paper worth 60%
I signed up for his class because I heard he could teach the blind to see and penguins to fly. The latter has been thoroughly documented. He texts in Yiddish and tosses insults in French so fine that the women swoon, all with a non-chalance to cause envy among the peasantry. As a prof., among the best I been fortunate to pay to learn from.
This man has changed the lives of so many.I love it when his 18 kids come to class, i've met all of them plus his wives. They all speak in different languages to each other and they can all understand them.TAKE THIS CLASS! IF NOT YOU AREN'T TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE COLLEGE EXPERIENCE!!
Awesome guy. Rambles like Boom-Hower from King of the Hill.
he walks the walk and talks the talk
He is no longer allowed in cemeteries because he once brought the dead back to life.
Veryyyy awesomee teacher! More awesome than my pet!
He is wise, a borderline genius, and might I add SEXY AS HEAVEN. I also would love to be his second wife :).
Once, to clarify a question about Kosher beef, he made us get in his bus (which he has to drive around his many kids) and took us to a slaughterhouse. There, he demonstrated the proper way to slaughter a cow and prepare it's meat so that it remains Kosher. That was perhaps the second most bizarre experience I had while in his class.
He once spoke German in French.
In class we hang on his every word...even the prepositions.
He once had an awkward moment...just to see what it was like.
His reputation is expanding as fast as the universe. He lives vicariously through himself.
His charm is so contagious, vaccines have been created for it. years ago he build a city out of blocks; today over 6,000 people live and work there.
I hear that whenever he takes a swim, dolphins appear.
Passionate and informed about the subject. Has become quite HOT since he's lost like a gazillion tons of weight--It is no wonder he's married to so many wives. Prepares for long distance marathons...which makes me think his wives must "appreciate" his excellent long distance condition.
If he were to give you directions, you'd never get lost and you'd arrive at least 5 mins early. His legend precedes him, the way lightening precedes thunder.
police often question him just because they find him interesting...and his beard alone has experienced more than a lesser man's entire body.
he is the cheese to every students macaroni
Great teacher! He has been known to cure narcolepsy just by walking into the room.
His words are like poetry and his beard is like heaven.
This man knows how to enjoy a fine glass of scotch. He is a very attractive man - a cross between Harry Potter and Gerard Butler (as Leonidas with the beard in 300). This one time I had a dream about him and inside my dream he let me give his beard a Jerry curl. One day, I hope to make this dream come true.
Other than participating in the ironman triathlon, he can recite the 99 names of God.. in 30 seconds. He plays scrabble with his wives and sometimes. Amazing professor, has amazing legs.
Tucker Max considers Professor Lamoreaux to be a personal hero of his.
Was once offered the Nobel Prize but declined the invitation to the awards ceremony because he had to harvest his peanut crop.
I loved this class and this prof. We learned a lot about Islam and Muslim. The lectures were great, kept even the worst of us awake. Lamoreux is the best teacher I've had at SMU - without exception. I became a religious studies major because of him. Discussion was always fun - apart from the idiot religious bigots who kept wanting to fight.
Dr. Lamoreaux can take a fist full of coal, squeeze, and voila - diamonds.
this guy is the shizznit. Hes got his head screwed on right, only problem is that its reverse threaded
He rocks!
His words can feel hungry children.
Sometimes he mumbles or trails off sentences, can be hard to understand. Note-taking in class can be difficult because he doesn't always emphasize the important parts/what we should actually know, this results in mass chaos in his office the day of a test. Humorous. Usually fashionably late to class. Relatively easy test as long as you study.
Best professor ever! Keeps you interested and has a great sense of humor.
God created the world in 6 days. John Lamoreaux could do it in 5.
Best professor at SMU.
Take his classes. Cool guy. Interesting stories.
I heard he can benchpress 2000 pounds.
They used to think the Earth was the center of the universe. They were clearly wrong, John Lamoreaux is.
Dr. Lamoreaux has saved more lives than Penicillin.
There's a good chance he is in fact Jesus.
Great Professor! Extremely entertaining and very approachable outside of class. No final and the three tests aren't difficult. I learned a lot and that's what is really important.
After Jesus died, it took him three days to resurrect... John Lamoreaux did it in a class period. He holds the Guinness World Record for Best Looking Beard and Most Wives (365 and counting). John Lennon used to have the same name, but when he met THE Lamoreaux, he decided that he wasn't worthy and changed his last name.
John Lamoreaux was what Willis was talking about AND he knows where in the world Carmen Sandiego is. TAKE HIS CLASS!
John Lamoreaux does not use spell check. If he happens to misspell a word, Oxford will simply change the actual spelling of it. He's the best professor I've ever had at SMU. Extremely knowledgeable. Very clear. Gives an awesome lecture with hilarious tangents. Outside of class, he's very approachable and helpful. Take the time to take his courses.
Prof Lamoreaux is the world's sexiest professor. Things turn to gold when he touches them. There was a statue recently resurrected of him in the Sistene Chapel. Take his classes or you will probably regret the rest of your life.
Prof. Clam is the best! He is so cute! I want to be his 366 wife and help him continue to create many more children to help him achieve his goal of WORLD DOMINATION! He is very smart and knows his topic. You never want to miss class because you never know what crazy thing he will say next.
The best prof at SMU! I think he should be worshiped as a GOD and sometimes he comes to class in a loin cloth and does sacrifices. He will give extra credit to anyone who will do a sacrifice offering to God or him in the lawn at SMU!
John Lamoreaux oozes excellence from every pore. By the end of class students sit waist deep in brilliance.
Husbans: don't let your wife take this course. You can't compete with Lamoreaux.
Mary Poppins meets Jack Bauer on HGH.
It's downright impossible to pay attention in class when your professor is such a stone cold fox... but, I manage to do so somehow. He's hilarious, brilliant, and too hott to put into words. The theistic version of Thom Yorke. I'm in love with him. End of story.
Dr. Lamoreaux is the reason the earth still spins.
He is hilarious! I love going to his class. He is extremely helpful and his tests are pretty easy. He knows a ton of languages and is very knowledgeable about lots of things. TAKE HIS CLASS!
John Lamoreaux is cooler than Jack Bauer...
John Lamoreaux is what Willis was talking about... Take his class. he is so cool! not a hard class, but very educational and interesting!
Powerbombed bigfoot!
Good, educational class. Teacher is funny and interesting. I recommend it
A funny teacher with a cool accent... interesting and humorous class....fairly easy.
Dr. Lamoreaux has a twisted accent - seems like it comes from all over the world. He is one of the most helpful professor I've come across, willing to go out of his way. Class is always interesting; great lecturer. Will go off on tangents and make off-the-wall jokes, but it's worth it. Take his class! One midterm and a 25 paper worth 60%-easy!
He spent a year living with monks. Claims to only know a few languages but really knows 37 of them. Most entertaining prof at SMU by far.
This teacher is great! He actually engages his students and cares for them.
great teacher
One of the best classes I have ever had. Prof. is informative and entertaining...never a dull moment. Highly recommend this class and this professor.
Wonderful teacher, wonderful class, and amazing beard! I love the numerous outfits he has. Favorite teacher ever :)
Funniest teacher in the world! This is by far my favoritest class ever! I enjoy it and looking forward to it. He's a little crazy but that makes it even more interesting! Definitely recommend it, you won't regret it. You can definitely make an A because he wants you to do well and doesn't try to fail you.
Fabulous teacher. Fascinating insights - have learned more in this class than any other! Bravo - take his class!!!
Professor Lamoreaux has a different accent for each class. One day he's British the next, Arab! Too funny.
Professor Lamoureaux is a unique teacher. His family is descended from French royalty. Before teaching, he made money wrestling animals (mostly bears) in the circus.
Dr. Lamoreaux is the reason I get out of bed every day.
epic.
He climbed everest without oxygen or shoes.
Bible bowl was the highlight of his hs career. He went all the way to the international championships at the age of nine. But he's still as humble as Moses.
Two syllables: YUM-MY
simply amazing
In all my years as a religious studies student I have never met more an influential professor. He is a beacon of hope and light to all his pupils and as such strives to be a philanthropist, educating minds. I mean who else can relate Testament to Testicles and promote a clear and vivid image of Western Religion in a scholarly manner. 2 Thumbs up!
He taught a parrot "God Save the Queen". If he were the patriarch of a religion, it would be the largest religion in the world, just because he is that awesome. Chuck Norris has nothing on him. In fact, Church Norris' only role model is John Lamoreaux.
Great guy
I went to SMU just so I can take all his classes. Enough Said.
There's God, there's Bond, and then there's Lamoreaux!
God created man in his own image, Lamoreaux is a prime example of that.
His Hypostasis shares something that is more than Divine in Physis. In fact his Physis represents the embodiment of Knowledge and Teaching.
John Lamoreaux is a ninja of knowledge. He will make you learn things even when you aren't paying attention. I look forward to his night classes every week.
Professor is the greatest! Everyone has to take this class.
i totally loved this class! i am graduating tomorrow. if I were starting over, i would take religion, at least as a minor... regarding prior post. dude, were we in the same class???? i learned more in this class than in four years at SMU. you're just mad because the prof didn't use powerpoint and didn't teach to the LCD. think on it!
Dr. Lamoureaux has the most amazing intellect, he can and will converse on variety of topics, all of which are fascinating; his students have the rare opportunity of basking in the depth of his insurmountable knowledge. If you have to take a religion class, or even if you don't take Dr. L's. You will not regret it.
Great Professor, Great Man.
requires a 25 page essay that basically is your grade for the class. The midterm was easy. I made an A. Turned in the essay at the end of the semester. My final grade was C!!! I DONT know how. It was not only me, but also several other students in the class.
Did good on all his assignments and made an A on his midterm.. but ended up with a C in class! I am not sure why, but the last thing we turned in was a 25 page essay
Genius professor! Fascinating and fun lectures, not a whole lot of work other than weekly reading reports. Really understanding. I'll definitely be looking for more classes with him!
On the 8th day God created Lamoreaux...
best class i've had in four years at smu. i learned so much and had great fun. lots of writing, but worth it. makes you think. 3 thumbs up
He respects his students and looks at them like adults and therefore takes attendance but not counted towards your grade. No tests, only reading reports that are due at the end of the class. I'd recommend it to everyone!
No tests, only reading reports that are due at the end of the class. He respects his students and looks at them like adults and therefore takes attendance but not counted towards your grade. recommend it to everyone!
Great professor, I had a relatively good understanding of Christianity and I still learned a lot from the class, also gained knowledge of Islam. No exams just reading reports for your reading that are turned in at the end of the semester. Lectures are not mandatory but they are interesting and worth going to.
The Ring has no power over Professor Lamoreaux. He is Master and Eldest; they call him Iarwain Ben-adar, oldest and fatherless. He will sing songs if his students are in trouble.
Lamoreaux is crazy but his class is not bad. He is unorganized and a little off kilter but he means well. Very nice man and the tests are easy as long as you go to class and take good notes. The final was only 20 questions long and took about 30 minutes. No homework either. (:
This man is so unorganized. He doesn't explain things well in class at all and especially doesn't respond to emails. He moved one of our test days the day of the test because he went MIA all weekend and didn't prepare it. However all that said... Easy A class. A ton of extra credit. If you don't get an A in this class.. Leave SMU.
Gets a little off topic but will go over what he expects on the tests and reading reports. Go to class an you should come out with an A
This class and professor are awesome! The professor is very nice and it is very easy to get an "A". I highly recommend this class if anyone needs a GPA boost. Also, the class is pretty interesting.
Amazing professor. Definitely a class worth taking. There's not a ton of work, and all of it is interesting. If you can spend 2 hours every week on this stuff youve got an A wrapped up. easily the best class I have taken at SMU
Prof. Lamoreaux is an amazing teacher. He is super smart and knows what he is teaching whether it is about the class or anything else. If I had room in my schedule, I would take one of his classes just because he is that amazing.
THIS WAS MY FAVORITE CLASS BY FAR! You don't need to have any prior knowledge of the topic to do well in his class. He is so understanding and defiantly knows the material! Would definitely recommend him!!!!!
Lectures are kind of boring but write down what he puts on the board and use the study guide for tests and you will do fine. He wants everybody to make an A.
This is by far the easiest/greatest class I have ever taken at SMU. Professor Lamoreaux is clear with his expectations and he is always willing to help accommodate his students. If you have a chance to take this class definitely do so!
Cool guy, would definitely recommend taking his class if you're into religious studies and the way in which science adds to or deducts from the validity thereof. Easy grader but format matters most on his papers!
Super easy class!! The only way not to get an "A" is to not show up or even attempt this class. Honestly, all you have to do is be present and enjoy the lecture. Don't worry about taking notes or memorizing facts for quizzes/tests because there are none! The only homework is writing occasional reading reports and reading one book.
Professor Lamoreaux is awesome! This class has a lot of busy-work. You have a 1 page paper due essentially every class, but nearly always will make a 100 because they are just reading summaries. This class subject is really interesting and the professor is funny- so its definitely enjoyable. Would take again.
Professor Lamoreaux is a great professor. There is homework due for mostly every class but it is super easy, you just have to make sure that you keep up with it. The class has a lot of discussion, but if you like the topic it is very interesting. I have taken two of his classes and both of them were super easy and I learned a lot.
Really clear about what he expects from students. Workload is enough to justify the class not being an 'easy A', but if you do the work, you'll do well. No tests; no essays. Honestly, I took this class to be an easy elective, and I've learned more than I have in my major classes. It's really interesting material.
Dr. Lamoreaux is a fantastic professor. He is extremely smart and enthusiastic about the subject matter. His classes are fun and he gets the students involved in every lecture. I have made great friends in his class because he encourages awesome discussion. Recommend to all students looking to take a religious studies course.
Dr. Lamoreaux is one of my favorite professors at SMU! He has very clear expectations and his lectures are very interesting. I highly recommend!
Dr. Lamoreaux is really clear about the objective of his class. He is extremely well-versed and passionate about the subject, so discussions are always interesting! He keeps the class engaged and I would highly recommend taking any of his courses.
Read the readings and show up to class. Study the night before the test. You will make an A. His lectures are actually interesting and he grades leniently even though his tests are multiple choice.
In a religious studies department full of gems, Lamoreaux is one of the best! Super goofy humor but a really great lecturer. Wish I could've taken a discussion based class with him too. It's easy if you show up and do the readings. Tests are easy if you show up and study, he's not trying to trick you- he really wants you to learn and is passionate.
take his class, he is a very nice prof
I tend to rate my professors based on a number of criteria, but the most important one is how they are as a person. Some "professors" may be good lecturers, but treat their students terribly, don't offer help, etc., but this guy is different. John Lamoreaux is a gem. Great lecturer, great person. You'll be hard-pressed to find a better professor.
Seriously the best teacher ever! Lots of reading but it is definitely worth it! Class is discussion based and makes for fun conversation. I would highly recommend taking this class!!!!
Loved this class. Professor Lamoreaux is awesome. One of the funniest professors I've had. A lot of reading, but definitely doable. Highly recommend for science majors and/or people interested in theology.
Professor Lamoreaux is the most enthusiastic professor I have ever had. He truly understands and cares about what he is teaching. There is a ton of reading in this class with summaries due each day but no tests or quizzes. Write the essays, show up, and you will get an A.
Professor Lamoreaux is an incredible teacher. The class is super interesting and pretty easy. Every class period there's a reading report due meaning you simply turn in a summary on the reading assigned the night before. Super nice dude and super knowledgeable. Would definitely take him again. Easy A
You will have two hours of homework three times a week, but if you do that then you get an automatic A. The lectures are super interesting and I enjoyed this class and it was an easy A. I would recommend this class to everyone, the teacher is amazing.
Incredible teacher. Class is an easy A as long as you do all the reading assignments. No tests or quizzes - period. Teacher is super kind and understandable. He wants you to succeed.
Grades easy even on MC and gives extra credit on most tests. Take good notes though and supplement it with the study guide. Study well for each test and youre fine
Professor Lamoreaux was a God send. He knows most people are there for the UC and won't be too difficult on you if you show up and pay attention. Very lecture heavy (boring, but easy) and lots of readings. There are only 3 grades and they're exams, but if you take notes and study the night before you can usually pass. Gives extra credit on tests.
Really interesting lectures and the course is well designed. If you take notes you will get a good grade in the class. Has a really easy grading curve as well.
Took this for UC/Honors credit, easiest class i've taken at SMU while also being super interesting. Prof. Lamoreaux is great, gave good lectures, really nice guy. The honors section only had 4 essays that went into the grade, (though he ended up cancelling the final, what a G), got 100% on all of them and barely paid attention. Highly recommend
People say this class is easy but it's not that easy. My worst grade right now but I think ill be able to pull it together (I'm taking Calc 2 and accounting and this still takes the cake). However, he's a great guy who gives a lot of leeway on grades. Take this class to get the credit and make sure to take good notes every class.
If I could have this Professor for every class I would. Really cares about his students and makes every class interesting and fun. There's a lot of reading and reading reports but it's super worth it. You also learn to much about something so important
Course is quite a bit of work although the grading is not very tough. Expect to write around 100 pages of single spaced writing by the end of the semester. Incredible professor, always extremely engaging and selected interesting course material. Yet another fantastic course from Dr. Lamoreaux.
Prof Lamoreaux is such a nice guy. His lectures are pretty extensive, but he is really knowledgeable and class always went by fast. There are 3 main tests and usually if you study a night/2 nights before you'll be fine. He curves tests, too. He knows people are there for UC credits. Great guy and interesting class!
Super nice guy. Notes can be a little confusing. The 3 tests are the entirety of your grade. DO NOT SKIP
My favorite professor! The man knows a lot which is why he sometimes looses track and tells interesting facts or stories but you will learn a lot. He is a very sweet man and truly cares about his students, the grading criteria is the three exams and the study guides will make sure you get an A.
This course was supposed to be a breadth, and boy has it turned into a nightmare. You are graded by 3 exams. If you mess one up, he is forgiving if you can ace the next one, but it is pretty much impossible unless you have been hitting the books + actually taking decent notes during his boring, non-interactive lectures. Find a different professor.
Very easy class with an amazing professor, come to class and takes some notes, and study with the study guides for the 3 exams (which are the entire grade, plus a final paper that is graded very generously) and you WILL get an A. He also curves a lot for the exams. Compared to other breadth classes this one is probably the easiest.
Don't understand how he has such a high rating. Took this course for the breadth and would not recommend. Cant miss class & have to show up and take notes every class to succeed. Tests multiple choice and long. He teaches all over the place and is difficult to follow. Nice guy but not the best teacher and the class is difficult for an intro breadth
Not sure how he got a high rating. Took this class for CC credit which was an awful idea. Lecture heavy and his tests are insanely hard. The TA struggled to help people in the class as the teacher would just say "go to TA for help". He curved tests because "too many people would fail his class".
Probably my favorite professor at SMU, have taken multiple classes with him and would recommend everyone to do so. Lectures are fun, but make sure to do the readings/take notes and you'll do well. Super intelligent/knowledgable with a crazy lore that unfolds class by class.
If you ask for help he just confuses you more and tells you to do read. Lack of clear instructions and material, gets extremely offended if you make any suggestion at all, cannot take any suggestions for improvement at all. When lecturing makes constant mistakes, provides incorrect info repeatedly. Avoid this professor do not take.
Take someone else, this guy is not worth your time. He prides himself on being the "popular professor" when he should concern himself more with his teaching skills or lack thereof. He tells random stories touting his experiences and fails to address anything that we will actually be graded on.
Easily the best professor I have ever had. Lectures are entertaining and engaging with a TA who is very hands-on. The only recommendation I can give you is to make sure you do the readings because of his quizzes, which are very straightforward if you read the readings. Just do the readings, they are very interesting.
Utterly horrible experience, he has ZERO flexibility and just rambles on and on about nothing while somehow expecting us to derive sense of the readings when nothing substantive was discussed
Worst professor ever! Talks in monotone, doesn't clarify confusing concepts. Expects us to magically understand. Avoid at all costs!
Dr. Lamoreaux keeps things engaging, but his class requires consistent effort. The readings are intriguing, and using Unstuckstudy alongside them can really help with prep.
Awful class! He is very biased to his opinion. And will grade you accordingly.
Horrible course and professor. Grades are ridiculous for a credit course and his lectures are insufferable. Not sure he even plans what he's talking about beforehand and just wings it. Please don't take if you value your happiness or gpa.
Lectures are insufferable.
He spends more time boosting his ego than teaching with a focus on himself, trying to win approval from students, is awkward and unprofessional. It's hard to respect his lectures when they're so self-serving. Too much reading, too few grades with no explanation, bad teacher.
Very rude and boring doesn't know how to teach and expects you to read every week.
You are going to have to read - its a religion class not a math class. Great man. Good professor. Good class. In my opinion, he is a great intro to the religious department
expects you to read more than most other teachers and if u miss a single lecture good luck bc he doesnt have anything on canvas, too full of himself to teach well and not very interesting at all, so boring and vanilla in his forever lasting lectures, horrible experience
Sooooooooooooooo booooring….
He is so incredibly knowledgeable and very friendly, he is very easy to approach and get to know, but, the class does require you to actually try and do the reading. If you do not do a lot of reading and/or do not have a great knowledge of the Abrahamic religions, I would probably try and take something else.
not very good at teaching new concepts and explains them in a very unnecessarily complex way. Class is also incredibly boring and lecture heavy, and he refuses to let you out early even if you have finished all the topics for the day.
The most boring rigid professors I have ever had, expects you to actually read the books in order to do well and nobody gonna do that
He is his only fan and he does in fact think vvery highly of himself, not a good teacher, an even worse person in how he treats those of us who ask questions, do not take, the reading is insane and he explains nothing expecting you to do all the work on your own and teach yourself
never again. "I don't know why y'all do so badly..." maybe because the class isn't enjoyable?
We do badly because you're terrible at your job.
His lectures are boring. He's not a good teacher makes you suffer to get a good grade. Expects you to read when no one does that anymore.
He's not hard he's just a waste of your time and expects you to read like its the 19th century, considers himslf a good teacher when he just yaps alll class long and nobody cares what he says nor does he get the point
Very nice and funny guy who knows a lot about Islam. Lectures have no slides/outline and can be hard to follow and know what he is just yapping about vs. on test. 3 reading reports on 2 book you pick from a list. Attendance not mandatory but he'll boost your grade if you go to class a lot. Study guides helpful for test. Don't do for CC, but not bad
Literally talks allllll clas align about nothing. No organizations and lectures make zero sense. Then tests blindside you. Book reports like were twelve and everyone ais them obvi. What a joke.
Worst professor I've met, babbles endless and never makes any sense, even when you TRY to listen he can't make sense. Everyone gpts the assignemtns when possible but when you can't you're out of luck bc his course is the most nonsensical farce of an experience
Sad babbling mess.
Such painful clas to get through he's so unorganized and does nothing but talk he's brutally boring you have no idea what to expect in grading and he's not very approachable. Take someone else.
