I have him for three hours twise a week. He just talks for three hours. He doesn't give us anytime to work things out so When it comes to going home and doing the homework if you didn't already know how to do the stuff before the class then you will have to get help out side of class. Worst teacher I have ever had!!!
hes okay. he talks a lot and if you manage to stay awake then you will learn something
Extremely hard tests. Tests are nothing like what he goes over in class nor what we have done on homework. If you intend on passing this class you will need a very good tutor. Online homework was very picky on the answer format. Would get annoyed when asking for help and him giving us wrong answers. No study guides, nothing. Avoid him at all cost!
John Learned is definitely the worst math teacher ever. Extremely hard tests and an unbelievable amount of homework. I highly advise you not to enroll in his class.
Tests are extremely hard. Everyone in the class failed and i mean everyone.
Extremely hard homework worst teacher ever.. tons of homw work. Please do not take his class I will pay you no to take it. thats how bad he is.
Do not waste you time and money. He may know math but he was no idea of what it is to teach. He will go over the basics in class, homework will be hard and he's test are out of this world. He gets mad if you ask any questions. If you have to wait a semester please do so. Do not let a person that pretends to be a teacher be your nightmare.
worst class i ever took in my life. the hmwrk's all online & towards the end i totally 4got about it so i got an F for that. the test's are rediculous. i almost felt bad for the guy, because to fill a 2 hour class w/ material tht should really only take like 30 min is almost a crime. give him a harder class 2 teach though, and i think he'd b great!
What he teaches make sense. Homework is online and much more difficult than his lectures. Tests are even harder and often included things he did not cover. His class is also very boring. I do not recommend taking his class.
He's a hard teacher, very boring... never gives any study guides for the test... But if you have a question he will answer it.
Did not enjoy this class at all. There is a massive amount of homework and the test are hard and usually cover things he didnt teach. If you dont have to I recommend not taking his class.
Do NOT take him! I'm really good at math and I can catch on quickly but he makes it impossible. The hw and lectures are completely different from what's on the tests. You basically have to teach yourself the material. All I have to say is there is only 8 people left in the class and the highest grade is a 70%. Wait another semester if u have to.
By far the worst teacher I've ever had. Easily confuses himself at the board almost every class. Refuses to FOIL, X-mult or any other tool to help you. Gets mad if you ask q's. Over 400 word problems assigned within 3 chapters. 4 people (passing) left in class from 40. He should def be reported or something. He's a detriment to learning.
Worst Math teacher I have ever taken. I use to love math and he actually made me hate it. He is rude and doesn't like it when his students ask questions. I was in a full class and by the time I dropped, there were only 6 left. He is THAT bad. I'm warning you, Take another professor!
NEVER TAKE A MATH CLASS WITH LEARNED!!! The worst teacher I have ever had. The lessons are never clear enough, he is not willing to answer questions, tests are completely irrelevant to the lectures, and you get like a gazillion web-assign homework problems.
I took his class a while back, but I couldn't believe he made me almost hate math, when I actually like it. You can tell he knows his stuff, but he just can't teach it; he does not make it easy for you to understand. He is not friendly or mean, just there. It was not an enjoyable class at all. Try to find a more competent teacher first.
Horrible teacher. I had to spend 150 hours in the mind shack so that I could pass this class.
Very smart guy, but no ability to convey math properlt. Very indifferent attitude. Avoid AT ALL COSTS, unless you want to drive yourelf unecessarily crazy for no reason.
Tests are hard but if you show your work he gives you points, never gives study guy but he answers questions before the exam. He gives a lot of hw every Time we meet.
Good teacher. You have to pay attention. He gets easier along the semester. Just STUDY! I passed with a B and didnt even turn in all my homework.
He is very smart and understands math. Just take your time to do the work and ask questions in class he makes sure you understand it.
hes pretty cool
Good teacher. Lectures can be fast paced at times, so make sure you ask questions if you do not understand - he is always willing to help. I suggest doing all of the homework and practice - it makes a world of difference.
Lots of homework he doesn't give u study guys, he makes math complicated but he gives you points on the test for trying
He is very smart. Unfortunately he doesn't teach every well. Doesn't explain himself at all. Make sure you ask questions. He goes very fast. If you ask questions he will gladly answer you. Don't let him intimidate you. Does give out a lot of homework. Do it. You will take a lot of time working on the class. But don't give up and you will pass! :)
Good teacher overall. Pretty fair exams, he will take the time to help you and talk you through things you might have trouble with. He can be a little full of himself but he's got a Ph.D. so give him kudos! As with any math class, doing extra problems definitely helps!
AWFUL teacher I had to drop!! Gets off topic and does not explain how to do problems!!! Not my type since I have a hard time with math.
The professor is difficult to follow, I had to drop his class with many others. The only way to succeed is by getting a tutor with him. If you take his class, accept the fact you will need a tutor. Very smart, but too smart for teaching a simple class.
WAY too much homework, very little explanation, goes way too fast during lecture so I can take notes, expects EVERYTHING to be done HIS WAY on exams. It was a VERY STRESSFUL experience!!! more than 60% of those that started the class dropped. I worked my butt off for my A. I got supplementary instruction from tutors and other professors.
terrible, hard to follow, very unclear and boring i had to drop this class after waiting 3 months to take it :( woulnt suggest him to anyone especially if you want to learn something
AVOID THIS TEACHER. I had a terrible time understanding the course. retook it with a different teacher and got an easy A.
Horrible teacher, avoid this class at all cost, you will end up dropping this class and have to retake it. Waste of time!
This was the worst teacher I ever had. He wanted everything done his way and gave us no freedom to do any of the work the way were comfortable with. The amount of homework we received from him was so time consuming and useless, it never helped with the test he gave us. Also the examples he gave us, was just ridiculous and didn't help at all.
Tests are out of this world crazy difficult. He's a nice guy but doesn't explain things very well moves way too fast in lecture. Not recommended
hes a genius, but has a difficult time explaining his subject matter. avoid if possible.
John learned showed little interest in his students and their progress. Real cut and dry kind of guy but if he didn't want to help students succeed, why did he become a professor? Biggest question I have had all semester. Learned gave a lot of busy work, that in my opinion had little educational value and as far as helping goes, not so much.
he writes his notes too fast, which leaves almost no time for questions, and if you DO ask a question he will practically never give you a helpful response. very dry, he doesnt seem like he even wants to be there or cares about his students or their grades at all. horrible teacher, avoid if possible.
He's a really nice guy and extremely dedicated to mathematics and formal expressions. Overall, I don't feel the explanations are very clear as he zooms through subjects, but there have been a couple of gems that he has said that have put things together for me. I didn't really care whether I passed or failed the course. He probably doesn't either.
Terrible teacher. This guy is bad. Really bad. I can not believe COD hired him as a math teacher. Great school but this guy is a bad apple.
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. confusing, not understandable, uncaring for his students. DO NOT take him!!!
This guy has a look on his face that says "I really wish I weren't here right now." He has no passion for his subject or his class and he makes everyone else just want to leave. Never cracks a smile, always leaves you with these obscure hints to help you with your work. I cannot recommend him to anyone.
He is an intelligent professor, but his teaching method is very confusing. He has no sympathy for helping students succeed. Intermediate algebra is definitely not a hard subject to understand, he just needs to be more clear on explaining concepts. If you struggle with mathematics, do not waste your time with this professor.
Mr. Learned is an excellent professor. He is nice to everyone. He was nice to me. I never once heard him speak rudely. Follow his directions on how to pass the class and do well. Applying your hours to knowing the content is mandatory. Earning full credit on homework and labs is necessary. I'm happy I took his class.
Learned is a math genius. The problem, is that most of us students aren't. He goes too fast, resulting in mistakes, and his notes on the board are sloppy and hard to follow. He's not good at helping you understand either. If you need to take this class, you better have some lab time planned into your schedule or you will fall behind. Not cool dude.
Please think before you add this class to your schedule!! He doesn't like to be asked questions that don't relate to the lecture only at"office hours"-(hint 20 mins)He doesn't give helpful examples on notes for the homework. He post homework before he goes over the section. I had tutors and worked on homework every day but I couldn't keep up.
Worst professor I've had by a long shot. He's an extremely tough grader and gives no sympathy towards students who are trying to succeed. A copious amount of meaningless, long calculations are required on the exams(no calculators allowed) so even if you understand the concepts backwards and forwards(i studied 4+ hrs daily)failure is likely.:(
To smart to be a teacher. The way he explains thing a hard to understand. Group projects are rated from 1 to 10, and the grade you get is the average of the group. So if you get +10, but everyone else get +7,6,8 your grade for that quiz is 7.75. For the test, study !!!, because if u don't you'll fail the class!! its a big part your grade.
Everything depends on the test. If you get 100% on your homework it won't matter. if you don't have the notes. you'll get a 40% dedication on your group project.
Tests are way to hard.
Extremely hard. I love Math and I was excited to take this class but my friends warned me about him and I did not listen. Tests were really tough with nothing but word problems (which he did not teach how to do). I ended u dropping with a W because I was not trying to risk dropping my GPA.

The class content was not necessarily hard, but his teaching methods were confusing. Homework is online & easy. Has exams & group quizzes. Messy writing. Notes are mandatory but do not really help.
DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER. when you fail or drop don't say I didn't warn you. Homework everyday is a lot of work and all online. group quizzes every week are easy. TEST's are sooooooo hard. Lecres are long and confusing. Don't do it!
I suck at math to begin with, but this teacher is by far the worst math teacher I have ever had... The semester started out with 40 students in the class, by the time the semester ended there were only 8 of us taking the final. I go a D. I ended up retaking the class online through omegamath, just so I could move onto the next math class.
This teacher is not very good, teaching method is very confusing as he doesnt follow the textbook. Lots of homework that he didnt even discuss in the class. Quizzes every other day and of course he didnt also teach it. We started with at least 30 students and ended up with 8. Lecture note is graded so instead of listening you end up writing notes
WARNING!!! If you aren't good at math do NOT take this professor. He doesn't explain things very well, and asking him to reexplain will only make you more confused. I had to rely on what I already knew to understand what was going on.
Professor Learned is such a nice guy! His nerdy math jokes are so funny! He has a really complex way of teaching but if you really pay attention you'll understand! Great semester so far!
Prof. Learned gives good real world examples of problems in his lectures and takes time to answer questions if the class has any. Quizzes every week ,lots of homework and long lectures. If you show up and give a solid effort you should be fine. Gives extra credit for good note taking..
This guy stinks. Figuratively and literally. Any positive reviews on here must be by his mother, because this guy sucks and everyone knows it.
Professor is extremely smart. If you're a math genius this class is a piece of cake, but if you aren't great with proper math terms you will not understand. He teaches in a confusing way and even does irrelevant calculations that only further confuse you. Asking questions does not help. He only makes it more confusing. Might drop with a W.
He seems like a nice person, however his teaching technique is lacking. I am currently enrolled in Math40 and am now facing a tough choice to drop and more consequences as I am on already on academic probation. He focus on definitions rather than on actually detailing how formulas work. Too many short cuts, not enough explanations. Sorry!
So I have not taken MATH in a while but I'm familiar with some functions However this Instructor is so confusing Skips steps to find the answer Does a lot of lecture about definition but not much on actually showing you how to work the problem from start to finish Very disappointed I DON'T RECOMMEND UNLESS YOU'RE ALREADY GOOD AT MATH
I DON'T RECOMMEND UNLESS YOU'RE ALREADY GOOD AT MATH
This teacher lacks teaching skills big time. The whole class was about definitions and not so much about how to solve the problems. I do not recommend you take this course with this teacher is your not good at math already.
You ask for help? He'll barely help you. He doesn't seem to want to go the extra mile to help his students.
This is a very structured course from a very organized professor, if your honest goal is to slide through a math class, you shouldn't bother taking this course. If your goal is to become better at math then this is a great class. Very straight forward policies, study and do all of your homework. Make sure you do kill the first exam, it v important
Avoid this professor at all costs. Even if you have to skip a semester. He's difficult to follow and if you ask for help, you will still be confused. He knows his stuff, but he's hard to follow. Unless you have help from someone else who knows what they're doing go for it. Someone else can explain better in 10mins than an entire lecture class.
The lectures are very boring but unless math is your best subject, it's not going to be enjoyable regardless of the instructor. He grades the tests fairly as long as you show your thought process and TRY! He keeps you updated on your grade, the homework is short, & there are plenty of study tools on mymathlab. Go to tutoring center & read the book.
Professor Learned is one of the worst math teachers I've ever had. At the beginning of the semester, I quickly began to see that he doesn't really pay attention to his students, doesn't care to help, and he just sits there on his computer. When I saw that he has a 1.8 rating, I was very disappointed. I don't recommend him.
Hands down worst teacher I have ever had. I told him I was struggling with the homework and he told me I had to learn how to find my own mistakes. I even asked to see him during office hours multiple times, he didn't replied. He does not care. So unorganized and hard to follow! Tests are nightmares! If you want to learn math DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
Would not recommend if you struggle with math it'd be better to skip it for the semester, I dropped after 2 days and crashed another math class
The only thing I learned from Learned is how to teach myself elementary algebra whilst battling the onslaught of severe depression that the classed caused me. 10/10 would buy rope again. Homework and lectures do not have synergy. MyMathLab continues to excel and failing to educate students, just like this teacher.
Good luck if you don't know the material already.
I was barely passing class with a C, so I had to drop a month before it was over in fear that I was going to fail. Lectures are unclear, he does not go over how to solve problems, and is very difficult to follow. This guy is too smart to be a professor. He does not know how to explain things at an elementary level. Retook & passed with an A!
AyearLater: I moved on to my next math class with a different professor. Although Learned can be frustrating at times I realize he pushes you to really learn the material. I would say if you are going into a field that requires math and want a deeper understanding, he is a considerable choice. If you just need to get through algebra, go elsewhere.
Advice: Don't ask questions, he'll just make it more confusing. Professor Learned isn't malevolent, but he is pretty strict and somewhat uncaring for the students. He just wants you to do your HW online and group quizzes in the classroom. Beware of his exams, they will not be related to what he has lectured.
He is terrible; I accumulated 90+ hours at the TASC math tutors, and still had a D. Buy the book because the class requires a code(which he does not mention). Good luck reading his handwriting and teaching yourself 90% of what he skips. He skips too many steps during "lecture", you will stay confused as to what he did. Avoid at all costs.
Professor Learned seems like he is a great person and would probably be really cool in person, but as a professor I am sorry but he does not seem like he knows what he is doing. I understand some professors are just working for a paycheck but I wish he would do something than just throw a lecture at you. I highly recommend against taking this class
Lack of detail. not very responsive or helpful. If you are looking for interaction and a professor that is willing to go above and beyond, this is not the guy.
Prof Learned is really nice and I appreciate him starting with the very basics for those who don't have a great grasp on math, that being said the class is hard, he does what he can to teach he always answers questions and will stay after class to help you but the Prof can only do so much the rest is on you, most of the class is based on tests.
This guy is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. This guy cant teach if his life depended on it. Lots of hw and the textbook just barely helps you with learning. Please avoid his class. It is not worth it.
I love math. This professor ruined it for me. He doesn't use the textbook but makes it mandatory to buy. He is super unavailable, by that, I mean, he doesn't respond to emails and moves too quickly to allow questions. I was all but teaching myself and still had no luck. Also, there are only 3 exams and a final. They are graded really heavily :(
Was difficult to understand.
His hand writing is atrocious. He speaks too low & doesn't really explain well.
Made our lives a living hell for 4 months
I was clueless the entire semester. I had to teach myself almost everything. Even then, the stuff on exams don't correlate with the textbook or homework. The professor talks too fast, handwriting is hard to read, and he doesn't answer any messages or emails. There's 3 exams and lots of homework. Doesn't show grade. Lectures don't help. Don't take!
Can pass the class just have to work hard.
It was as if he was talking to himself and we were just watching. This class actually ruined my mental health (not exaggerating). I would go home and cry because I felt stuck (which I've never done before). No study guides, hw is different than lectures, exams are not what he lectures. 3 exams (15% each), Final (30%), Homework (25%).
Lectures are quite difficult to follow; rather than demonstrating how to solve the problem, he mostly puts out definitions. Second, there is A LOT of assignments that only count for 25% of your final grade; exams account for the remaining 75%. Lastly, he takes FOREVER to grade your midterm and does not respond to emails whatsoever.
This class was so awful, that I would not recommend it to my worst enemy. It is several hours of slop and TONS of homework that will give you depression and also a license to teach mathematics since that's what you'll be doing. Homework has nothing to do with in class lectures and the same goes for the tests. DO NOT TAKE, you've been warned.
Lectures consist of him writing definitions on the board in illegible handwriting, he does not teach you how to do the actual math. On his homework (which only counts for 25% of your grade) he uses other creators and teachers YouTube tutorials. He does not teach you anything, you have to teach yourself while he gets paid for putting in no effort.
Does not prepare nor teach you the material on the exams he gives out. When asked to go over one problem from the exam we only had an hour to take, he took up 3 whole whiteboards to work it out, there were 10 questions. Exams are worth 45% of your grade, even if you do all of the homework it is impossible to pass unless you get great exam scores.
My overall grade in this class was 95% before I took one exam (that he put no effort into preparing us for), I got a 27%, lowest test score I have ever received in any class. This dropped my grade to a 51% causing this to also be my first dropped class ever. Mispronounced my name every lecture after being corrected multiple times, disrespectful.
Almost thought he was a volunteer just trying to get his hours in based on how little effort he put into teaching until I looked on this website. I don't understand what he contributes or why he gets paid for how little he does.
If you like math or want to then avoid this teacher, exams, and quizzes take up 75% of total grades. There is little feedback that I was ever able to get from him, with no response to my emails. He has intelligible handwriting. If a question was ever asked in class no real help was ever given. There are many other professors who are 100x better.
Was really difficult to understand hand writing, does not bother to write cleaner despite many comments on his writing. Homework and test are completely different and it's mainly problems that he shows in class but his writing is unreadable and doesn't give any good feedback back what's so ever
The only C i've ever had at COD, trust me when I say, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR, stay FAR FAR away. You would have a better time going to the Library and being taught by a tutor there for any material because this guy does not know what he's doing and does not care about you or your understanding of math
